What do we love so much about naturally aspirated engines
or the combination of both that creates an emotionally rewarding experience with every stab at the throttle pedal
I can say for sure that nothing turns it up to 11 quite like a set of individual throttle bodies
Enter Project NSX
Already providing a symphony of surround sound from the mid-mounted engine and making almost enough power to satisfy – the scene was set
For those long-term followers of the project – thank you for your patience – you might remember the ‘Stage 2′ target of 300 crank horsepower outlined all the way back in 2019
I was already aware of a few kits available for the NSX’S C30A 3.0L DOHC VTEC V6 engine
As with many aftermarket offerings for the NSX
and nothing was particularly suited to that
Injector position was a particularly weak point
with most available solutions placing them at angles perpendicular to the airflow
acceptable for high-RPM operation in a race car but eliminating the benefit of proper spray targeting at lower intake air speeds
Compromising the NSX’s famous low-speed manners in this way was unacceptable
so I started to play around with a bespoke solution
I had some CAD experience from my 3D printing escapades
I soon found out – rather difficult indeed
The complex shapes required to match the angle and profile of the intake ports were a particular challenge
countless late nights were spent with Fusion360 and YouTube open
By the time I had something ready for prototype production
I think I was on to version 18… a prime example of biting off more than you can chew
but that’s also the best way to accelerate your learning
The key features – a runner profile 3D matched to the shape and direction of the intake ports and a 48mm throttle body
provision for the mounting of a central DBW throttle actuator
and angled runners to clear the alternator and mount
It was at this stage I also selected some other key components from some great Australian suppliers
namely six 48mm throttle bodies and associated linkages from RHD Engineering
and a DBW throttle actuator from EFI Hardware
The mounting points on my manifold design were positioned to match
I had at one stage considered printing the final product in a strong and heat-resistant carbon-filled nylon but was eventually steered away from that by those who know better – the risk of the manifold flexing/warping due to heat/load and thus misaligning the throttles was substantial
I shopped around for some quotes locally and overseas
eventually settling on a manufacturer based in China
There were a few minor bumps through the process
but I cannot fault the company on its communication or responsiveness
I was sent photos at every stage of the manufacture and QC process and would happily go this route again
The cost of this machining was substantial
The complexity of the part (and thus the machining effort and time required) was the culprit – and another lesson learned: designing with the production method in mind is important
Additive manufacturing had spoiled me – no tool paths to consider on the printer
But having the design in my hand in billet aluminium after a few short weeks was a huge thrill
it finally meant I could move towards assembly of the full system
Connecting seamlessly to the top of each runner is an RHD Engineering 48mm throttle body
Throttle sizing is a key decision to be made early on when designing a multi-throttle system
Too big and you may lose throttle resolution and
depending on the shape of the overall runner
Too small and you will restrict the maximum airflow at wide open throttle
Although the calculated ‘optimum’ throttle size was quite small
referencing a collection of other NSX ITB implementations as well as OE designs from the likes of Porsche and BMW suggested that the 48mm ballpark would support my target power output for this fairly standard engine
and allow margin for the impact of boundary layer effects
The NSX has quite large ports from factory
so going any smaller than 48mm would also create a ‘choked’ runner profile which would negatively impact velocity and cylinder filling
The existing options for the NSX start at 48mm and extend right up to a whopping 60mm
perhaps optimised for engines with larger capacities and higher RPM capabilities
I’d previously adapted the car to run a (single) drive-by-wire throttle body and was enjoying the benefits of adjustable throttle response and engine safety strategies
The EFI Hardware motor uses the same principles of an electronic throttle body
but actuates an adjustable lever which makes it adaptable to multi-throttle systems
Some 3D-printed airbox mounts and bellmouths helped with mocking up the intake before final assembly
Once I’d assembled most of the components to put the kit together
it was time to make the long journey from Melbourne to Newcastle
My day job at Bosch Motorsport has introduced me to some exceptional motorsport minds
They were the trusted hands required to finesse this ITB project to completion
The regular vehicle servicing that happens at the front of the shop belies the magic that happens at the back
where a couple of lifts are reserved for motorsport projects
Ash’s passion for oddball European machinery means there is always an interesting customer car to stick your head into…
While Ash stuck his head into making the ITB magic happen
I decided the spacers which connect the throttle body to the airbox base were perfect for an experiment in metal 3D printing
electing to have them made out of aluminium
Being my first outsourced metal print I was excited and curious to see the quality of the part
Overall I was very impressed with what arrived from the printer
with the bottom mounting surface being the only area that benefited from a resurfacing on the lathe at the skilled hand of Eric of Apex Composites to get it completely flat
Eric is one of those rare individuals who can always see a path to achieve the objective
A potent mix of creativity and technical proficiency which I am equal parts envious and in awe of
In several instances where I had seemingly designed myself into a difficult corner
Eric fired up the (home-made) CNC and machined an elegant solution
This included some extended-length throttle linkage arms which enabled a central pull of the two throttle banks from the throttle motor mounted in the central vee of the engine
a beautiful bracket (pocketed to save weight) to mount the vacuum manifold and accessories between the two banks
Once the fabrication of the various aluminium components was completed
Eric also treated them to an anodisation to improve the durability and corrosion resistance – not to mention the aesthetics
I was pretty giddy seeing the parts like this for the first time
Custom fuel rails with hard lines bent to precisely match the vee of the intake – does it get any better
Touches like this I never would have been able to execute without the involvement of Ash and Eric
The process of actually mounting the manifold was extended
Through this process I was reminded of the difference between designing parts like this and actually engineering them to work with the required level of performance and durability
and the importance of having experts in your corner
One of the key decisions that Ash and Eric drove was to grub-screw every point of adjustment in the system once it was perfectly set up
This is a significant machining effort that requires skill and patience
which Eric (perhaps obvious to the readers at this point) has in buckets
A common complaint about multi throttle linkages is that they come out of alignment with time
requiring constant fiddling – not a problem anymore
I was finally starting to see the reality of the dream materialise
We were still miles away from the car running
but Ash knew what we needed for motivation – he quickly hooked up the throttle motor and sent it the command – open
Seeing the six throttles dance in unison was honestly a bit of an emotional moment – after hundreds of combined hours of planning and tinkering this madness actually might work
One of the main compromises of a multi-throttle setup is the loss of manifold volume downstream of the throttles
the manifold usefully holds a balanced source of vacuum from all cylinders
which provides a MAP (manifold air pressure) signal and consistent vacuum to feed brake booster
The typical solution is to link the cylinders below the throttles to a smaller manifold
using nylon Festo tube and high quality fittings to feed a cheap eight-port manifold
This is also where I integrated an electric idle valve
however Ash’s experience showed that the resolution required for the precise idle control that would enable the uncompromised drivability would not be possible with that central motor alone
The reason for this is the extremely non-linear relationship between throttle position and airflow as a throttle cracks open – multiply this by six openings and the large inrush of air at even 1% throttle becomes impossible to manage to the high standard we were pursuing
A simple two-wire Bosch idle motor was an easy solution
integrated to take air from the filtered air box – with the most elegant machined aluminium adapter made by Eric
Into the same aluminium vacuum block was where we installed one of two air pressure (MAP) sensors
A Bosch Motorsport fast response air temp sensor neatly integrates into the air box with another piece of Eric’s functional jewellery
We have elected to not use the internal throttle position sensor in the throttle motor
instead using a Variohm TPS on each bank of the intake to generate a throttle position signal
This might seem like unnecessary complexity but is exactly the kind of decision that Ash will push you make despite it meaning more time and effort in the setup
you want the ECU to know the position of the throttle blades
not the position of the motor driving them
In a multi-throttle system with a combination of various connections
any slack in the system (and there is always some) becomes noise in the signal
Using the Alpha-N plus MAP load tuning method as we are here has TPS as a key input
The fuel pressure regulator is a – you guessed it – Bosch 3bar DR2 regulator in a Raceworks billet housing
These ‘pot type’ regulators are affordable and much more reliable than an aftermarket adjustable regulator
I had intentionally designed the manifold with an offset – a curved runner – to create clearance to the factory alternator and bracket
but the airbox fouled – due to an unexpected internal detail
I couldn’t get the large box far enough across
we were able to turn an obstacle into an opportunity
Spoon famously developed and raced an ITB-equipped NSX in period
and had helpfully solved my problem all those years ago
The Spoon lightweight alternator bracket is milled from a huge block of billet
maintaining the required stiffness and factory engine mount point but dropping a handy chunk of weight from the top of the engine
I try not to fanboy for any brand too much but allow an exception for Spoon Sports – one of my fondest memories of the NSX is Ichishima-san doing a test drive and validation after the Spoon Rigid Collars and steering wheel were installed at Type One back in 2017
An instant saving of a welcome 5.4kg (11.9lbs) relative to the factory steel bracket
I caught up with Spoon’s former head of development
and he gave me a bit of info on these particular parts
They were never released by Spoon for customer cars
but the machinist who produced the parts was permitted to do a small run for some customer requests
this part has been through a few different cars before ending up in Project NSX
Eric applied a protective anodisation in the titanium colour seen throughout the system
which has elevated the appearance of the already elegant design even further
the alternator is currently under-driven for road car purposes and we are seeing low battery voltage under certain conditions
so some testing with a smaller pulley will be required
The airbox itself is a semi-custom unit from Reverie in the UK
The vee-shaped base had to exactly match the incline of the runners
This was eye-wateringly expensive but is as light as a feather
looks great and with its inherent resonance properties should sound mega too
Another small change – swapping out the standard coil packs for something more modern
The coils on the NSX’s rear bank are known for deteriorating due to exposure to moisture – exhibit A
I again reached into the Bosch catalogue for the ‘R8′ ignition coil – a lightweight and affordable OE option that also comes with a fancy red top – so it must be faster
I must admit to being a bit lax with the scales lately
that’s over 1.3kg (2.8lbs) of coil weight saved
I’m not expecting a performance benefit here
this engine is still fairly stock without high compression nor boost
But money and weight saved with a future-proof solution
surely it’s the time to reveal that the car made more power and torque and is the fastest NSX in the Southern Hemisphere
We put the car on the dyno with a focus first on getting the car running and driving like stock
There’s still auxiliary work to be done before this new setup can stretch its legs properly – Ash is very particular about what he requires from a vehicle before he chases outright power
I did convince him to do a power run that we could compare to baseline – I knew you guys would murder me if we didn’t have one
With the short prototype bell-mouths (seen earlier in the story when the intake was mocked up) the headline figure is now 201wkW (269whp) – a 9.4kW (12.8hp) improvement over the baseline set prior (191wkW/256whp)
I was expecting a 10 to 15kW (13 to 20hp) increase from the ITBs and there is still significant optimisation to implement – so straight off the bat that is a decent improvement to the top end
and the engine has clearly lost both power and torque at other RPM
individual throttle bodies are almost always considered to be race car parts
Race cars are driven in the narrow band of their rev range that makes the most power
so the driver has access to torque upon request
regardless of what RPM the engine may be cruising at
The factory variable intake was exceptional for that purpose
Its variable geometry (which switched from small to large volume at 4,800rpm) neatly explains the new hole in torque up to 5,000rpm
The other dip at 6,800rpm is unusual and will require further investigation when we do some testing with the final intake hardware including trumpets of varying lengths and airbox lid and optimising the VTEC engagement point
So where does that put us relative to our ‘Stage 2′ target of a nice round 300 crank hp
Factory manifold = 191.6rwkW + 27.3kW (measured drivetrain loss) = 218.9kW/293.5 crank hpMulti-throttles = 201rwkW + 27.3kW = 228.3kW/306.2 crank hp
…I’m satisfied to call that mission success for ‘Stage 2′
which was originally benchmarked against the 987.2 Cayman S on a simplistic power-to-weight basis
We’ve even snuck past the 100hp-per-litre threshold
it’s definitely not job done with some power and torque to be recovered at lower RPM
and perhaps even more to come from the top end with the right supporting modifications
I’m estimating weight reduction to be around 11kg (24lbs)
but currently without the exact measurements to confirm
However the primary win is not measured in tq/hp
An intoxicating crescendo that builds to the VTEC crossover
What may particularly impress with those of you who have gone down the ITB path already is that the end result is an NSX with completely uncompromised road manners
At sensible RPM it genuinely drives like a stock car
It starts first bang of the key regardless of the weather
We can chase down the power and torque but right now having a car that is genuinely drivable with a drive-by-wire
vee-configuration ITB setup is something I’m incredibly proud of
The SH Garage on Speedhunters
Those look incredible and designing them yourself is impressive
How did you decide on runner length or was it just a matter of working in a certain amount of space
Does your ecu control the dbw or do you have a standalone unit
Remember the NSX article Dino featured where you were all arguing with me about why the transmission was flipped
Then I said it was likely for packaging purposes derived from racing
And that most things you see in a vehicle are a result of packaging
It's funny to me in these big long threads how you guys will try so hard to discredit me
but in instances like this I always confirm my intuition: most of you guys are very inexperienced when it comes to anything beyond basic service maintenance / shop duties
The fact you don't have even an inclination into why this was done is very telling
The length of the runners up to the throttle body were a packaging and shape decision
total length will be optimised with different sized bell mouth pieces on the dyno
A friend did run some calcs which suggested a very long runner will make good power
so the challenge will be fitting those into the airbox! As another commenter mentioned
the Elite 2500 has onboard DBW so that part was straightforward
The car already has a Haltech standalone ECU
so it should be controlling the DBW system as well
This is very impressive to have done yourself
Should really liven up the driving experience of your NSX
It’s a ton of fun - the engine is really in “surround sound” now
puts a massive smile on my face every time
What I like about this feature is that you are experimenting and you're not trying to sell me on some BS that you don't know about
Generally speaking the "authors" on this site are more akin to marketing copywriters than actual experienced modifiers or builders
This gets my attention because it goes beyond the 50 IQ "they put da big wing on it and naow it makes so much downfarce that its bending da earth" crap that is normally published here
You clear understand what you're talking about as opposed to someone with more experience than you telling you what to write...which is very easy to surmise for people with experience
Also why so many readers have been correcting staff as of late
Many here are trying to be something they are not
That's quite a big torque dip at 4,000-5,000 rpm
and always appreciate you following along on the journey
big hole there but I’m confident we can claw most of it back
A great example of how the entire system needs to work in harmony for these NA engines to run at their best
I can only guess how expensive that must have been
I went down the same route some years ago and I still love the sound those things make
This will be a blast to drive especially when it's tuned completely. One thing that jumped out at me imediatelly was the shape of the velocity stacks
I think this is an Area where you can sort out a lot of your power dips
Just try different bellmouth sizes and lenghts while tuning it
The longer runners in the cover photo are much closer to this design
but still not perfect - a limitation of my 3D modeling abilities
The plan is to print a few different options and test them with the airbox lid in place to find an optimal length
Can absolutely relate to how motivating the "throttle test" must have been
These kind of projects drain one's patience and endurance but something so small can raise the morale instantly
it's been a long time but this is still my favourite "internet project"
those little milestones need to be relished along the way
no point doing all of this if you’re not having fun
This makes me so happy. Thanks for sharing Blake
Man ITBs are such works of art so beautiful I want to put them in my Civic Hybrid..
shows how well the factory engineers do their work
it takes a huge effort to make a performance difference while respecting drivability and long engine life
That’s solid work at the manufacturer’s level for you
One of my first jobs out of mechanical school was with an engine builder who specialized in 1000-3000hp engines
Of the more interesting things we found was dynoing aftermarket intakes for a very popular V8 engine
The dyno indicated that the most popular intake that all the industry people swore by REDUCED our V8 power by 100bhp and torque by ~120ft lb
The stock factory unit was engineered beyond any aftermarket product
A decision was made to keep it factory.I ended up leaving the job after getting into a fist fight with the shop manager who was 215lbs and a skinhead
Despite being significantly lighter than him I broke his nose and sent him to the hospital
High horsepower shops definitely attract a certain type of person
often times its almost as if giant multi billion dollar companies have more access to resources than people like Bisimoto and others who are largely selling aesthetic builds for the interwebs
Smart use of 3d printing to position the ITB's how you needed them
Definitely recommend experimenting with a 3D printer when you get the opportunity
Opens up so many possibilities in the garage
My favorite project car from Speedhunters with the habitual attention to detail
How nice it is to have talented people there to help you make your dreams come true
Find the people who hear your crazy ideas and say “let’s make it even crazier”
I dare say some longer runners will pick up that low end torque you're chasing
may make it difficult for the airbox situation though
That’s not necessarily a problem - we’ll experiment with moving it to find the sweet spot for changeover
Moving the filter from inside to outside the airbox will free up some space if we need it
and with the 3D printer getting some bendy pipes in there is always a possibility
This gotta be one of my favorite SH posts in a long while
A beautifull demonstration of what is possible with (for hobbyists free!) CAD software and modern manufacturing solutions
3D printing etc.) Did you 3D scan the engine or did you do all measurements manually?Posts like this are masivly inspirational and motivating to do more custom parts on my stuff
we are living in a golden era of possibilities
although it is definitely easier to get in over your head now
but wasn’t satisfied with the quality I could achieve
it was the trusty pair of digital calipers
and test printed components to verify fitment accuracy
from CAD into CNC machine and complete it doing fine tuning on dyno
Blake,Why is it taking so long to post new stories on SHs
Seems like same stories are on here a lot longer than they used to be
You guys having funding issues or is there just not a lot of new shows
Sounds like they are having money problems
The site has been declining steadily for the last 10 years
as I’m a less frequent contributor these days
I’m not involved in the behind-the-scenes work of running Speedhunters
Hopefully you’ll get an answer to your questions soon
The regular contributors here are some of the dumbest people I have ever heard talk about cars in my life
I am so thrilled to see Project NSX back and continuing to be improved
Having done something similar on a different car
but the perseverence to keep pushing through the challenges that these projects present
I didn’t even get into the effort of balancing and setting the throttles
and the amount of troubleshooting the team undertook to get things running correctly - sounds like you know exactly what that entails
I always love it when there's a new Project NSX update
did you plumb one end to the airbox and the other to the vacuum block
I imagine that would be the best way to get the air from upstream the throttles to downstream
That’s right - feeds from the filtered section of airbox directly into the vacuum block
As a lonnnngg time lurker (since nfs shift was still current game
I have commented on your posts in the past
I feel obliged to comment as a fan of the build hahha
I must say it keeps getting better and better

The 2025 Blake Jones Trout Derby in Bishop, California, was a fantastic event! Since 1968, the derby has been a cherished annual tradition, drawing families from near and far – with around 30% of participants coming from Inyo and Mono Counties. This year, approximately 10% of attendees were first-time participants, many of whom are already looking forward to returning next year.
Approximately 600 people, including registered anglers, along with their families and friends, gathered at the Eastern Sierra Tri-County Fairgrounds on Saturday, March 22nd for the prize awards ceremony. Nearly $10,000 worth of prizes were handed out to lucky winners.
The Blind Bogey weight was 9 oz. and in the adult category, Robert Eddy of Bishop took home the grand prize – a Dave Scadden Dagger Pro Float Tube Package, along with a bag full of fishing gear. Additionally, 14 other Blind Bogey winners received new rod-and-reel combos and other great prizes.
In the Kids’ Blind Bogey category, Trasen Chartraw, also from Bishop, claimed 1st prize. Nine other young anglers took home Blind Bogey prizes as well.
The Catch & Release category saw Reese Tiffany of Bishop win 1st prize, and the heaviest fish of the event, weighing in at 3 lbs. 9 oz., was caught by Mark Cortez from Chino.
Participants were encouraged to help keep the river and reservoir clean by collecting discarded fishing line and other trash. 33 individuals brought in bags of garbage and were entered into a special “Talkin’ Trash” drawing. Don Stevens from Temecula was the lucky winner.
Organized by the Bishop Chamber of Commerce, the event wouldn’t have been possible without the support of more than 20 volunteers who helped with everything from set-up and clean-up to registration, raffles, and fish weighing. The Chamber is deeply grateful for the continued support of its many co-sponsors, including:
Next year’s Blake Jones Trout Derby is set for Saturday, March 14, 2026.

a new lawsuit has further raised the stakes
filed a complaint Tuesday in New York Supreme Court
accusing the actor’s crisis PR team of waging a coordinated effort to undermine her and deflect blame for what she calls a retaliatory smear campaign targeting Lively
Entertainment & Arts
Inside Blake Lively’s legal complaint against her ‘It Ends With Us’ co-star and director Justin Baldoni: Who’s who and what you need to know.
“Behind Jones’s back, [Abel and Nathan] secretly coordinated with Baldoni and [his studio] Wayfarer to implement an aggressive media smear campaign against Baldoni’s film co-star,” the lawsuit states.
Jones, who represented Baldoni and Wayfarer from 2017 until her termination in August 2024, claims the alleged scheme destroyed her professional relationship with the actor-director. Abel is accused of using confidential company information to poach clients and lay the groundwork for a competing PR firm.
“Defendants Abel and Nathan secretly conspired for months to publicly and privately attack Jones and [her PR firm] Jonesworks,” the lawsuit alleges, describing efforts to “steal clients and business prospects” while pinning the blame for the smear campaign on Jones herself.
The filing includes excerpts from thousands of pages of text messages and emails that Jones says were extracted from Abel’s company-issued phone after her firing from Jonesworks in August, shortly before the company’s relationship with Baldoni and Wayfarer came to an end. In one exchange, Abel allegedly described Baldoni as “pompous” and mocked his decision to attend a men’s retreat during the film’s release, writing, “He doesn’t need a retreat. He needs to be humbled.”
Jones accuses Abel and Nathan of weaponizing the controversy to “drive a wedge” between her and Baldoni, isolating her in the industry and damaging her career. Her lawsuit seeks damages and a court order to halt what she describes as ongoing harassment and professional sabotage. “This lawsuit seeks to finally put a stop to their continued misconduct and to compensate Jones and Jonesworks for the damage Defendants’ conduct and scheme has inflicted,” the filing reads.
Stars including America Ferrera and Amber Heard speak out after Blake Lively sues ‘It Ends With Us’ director Justin Baldoni for sexual harassment
Bryan Freedman, an attorney representing Baldoni and the other defendants, could not immediately be reached for comment but has previously dismissed Lively’s claims against his clients as “false, outrageous, and intentionally salacious.” Freedman is preparing to file a counter-lawsuit to Lively’s suit, representing Baldoni, Wayfarer Studios CEO Jamey Heath and the publicists named in Lively’s complaint.
As lawsuits from both Lively and Jones unfold in the courts and the public eye, the controversy has cast a harsh spotlight on Hollywood’s PR playbook, exposing the darker corners of reputation management in an industry facing calls for greater transparency and accountability.
The allegations have already had professional repercussions for Baldoni. Earlier this week, his talent agency, WME, dropped him as a client and the nonprofit Vital Voices Global Partnership rescinded an award honoring him as an advocate for women’s empowerment. In a statement, the organization said Baldoni’s alleged “abhorrent conduct” detailed in Lively’s lawsuit was “contrary to the values of Vital Voices and the spirit of the Award.”
Author Colleen Hoover, whose bestselling novel “It Ends With Us” was based on, has also expressed support for Lively, writing on Instagram: “Blake’s ability to refuse to sit down and ‘be buried’ has been nothing short of inspiring.”

One new walking tour in the downtown East End neighbourhood of Blake-Jones is teaching locals about Toronto’s rich Black history
Lannick Bennett Jr. felt the removal was a way for the TDSB to stop Black and other racialized kids from playing basketball. So, he came up with a plan to raise awareness about local Black history and created a free guided walking tour called #HearThis Black history in the #EastEnd
which spotlights Black figures in the area
“I’m hoping that having events like this with massive crowds
is the starting point of having bigger and better conversations about how anti-Blackness has more or less just been a thing throughout society
and that things didn’t just happen decades and centuries ago,” Bennett Jr
and featured guest speakers such as Galati
who in 2019 advocated to bring basketball nets back to his alma mater
and I think sometimes their stories don’t get amplified as much as they deserve
I also think that through exploring Black history
you’re also learning the history of other people
From Leslieville to Riverdale to Blake-Jones
the tour brings to life the stories of activists Thorton and Lucie Blackburn
“I am always very interested in learning about my local community and some of the histories that I never learned growing up in Ontario
And it was a great opportunity to listen from somebody’s lived experience
and get the backstory on Lincoln Alexander who is rarely mentioned,” says Alison Stewart
hopes to guide more walks in the future by asking local residents for more stories that need to be shared from the ground up.
“When I was in school looking at a history book
There was nothing that centred on the Black experience,” Bennett says
“Living out in the East End for nearly 15 years
I’m still learning stuff about what goes on here.”
WASHINGTON — Prime Minister Mark Carney will have to navigate a delicate balance during his first in-person meeting with Donald Trump today

When Steve "Gonzo" Gonzalez retired after a 34-year career as a Navy SEAL
he knew pretty much everything about working underwater -- except that it could be beautiful
and you can barely see your hand in front of your face," he says
Now Gonzales gets to enjoy the stunning undersea landscape all the time as events director for Force Blue
a veterans' nonprofit that does coral reef restoration and other ocean conservation work
They bring mostly veteran volunteers for projects that also provide "mission therapy" to veterans who miss the camaraderie and the sense of purpose they got while in the service
A few dozen Force Blue volunteered earlier this year to build a living shoreline in Choctawhatchee Bay
Military veterans and local conservationists came out on a chilly morning to carry chunks of limestone the size of soccer balls into the bay at low tide
It's easy to see where heavier high tides and frequent storms are eating away at the shore
A local conservation group invited Force Blue here to help build three 50-foot rubble barriers that just peek above the water at low tide
One goal for the barrier is that the bay's native oysters will quickly attach to the limestone and grow to filter millions of gallons of water
They come and they bring a whole lot of energy
and they're a lot of fun," says Alison McDowell
who directed the project for the Choctawhatchee Basin Alliance of Northwest Florida State College
When the wall is done McDowell will get local volunteers and students to come plant native grasses in the shallows behind it
creating even more of a filter and also a natural net for runoff
a former Navy diver who directs operations for Force Blue
calls the SEALs he hires to help with marine projects across the country "the best trained in the world."
"These guys are the best trained divers in the world
We take their skills that they learn from the military
repurpose them for conservation work … from coral restoration to marine debris cleanup to building a living shoreline defense system," he says
here we are a military force that's trained for basically
weapons of mass destruction and here we are
weapons of mass construction," Fiore says with a grin
as he wades into the chilly water with a small boulder in each hand
The Force Blue volunteers know they're not stereotypical environmentalists
but "Gonzo" Gonzales jokes that grizzled Navy SEALs like him can be pretty good public advocates
it doesn't matter if you get it from the left side of the boat or the right side of the boat
We're all in the same boat to care for this planet."
He says these missions give veterans a way to serve again. Transition from military service has been flagged as a time when suicide and mental health issues spike
And that's not only for veterans who saw combat
Nathan Quinn was a special forces medic but never deployed to war
When he came to his first Force Blue mission
rebuilding damaged coral reefs in the Florida Keys
they told him he needed to get a mental health check up as part of the deal
"I didn't deserve the support," he says he thought at the time
But the Force Blue team told him: no mental health screening
Now he returns again and again to do more missions – for the companionship and also because
healing the ocean and the living coral is another kind of therapy
Building the living shoreline in Choctawhatchee Bay was supposed to take two days but the Force Blue folks moved 40 tons of rock by hand and finished by midafternoon on the first day
"It really is a swords to plowshares kind of thing
and you're also basically giving your lifeblood to this creature that you've only just met
we can actually prevent devastation for the next storm," says Quinn

There are few things in surfing that get the old arteries pumping faster than seeing that perfect ramp set before you
our airborne attempts seem to crash and burn more often than not
There's the dreaded chop-hop (is that really even an air?) that's become ever so frowned upon by those in the know
horizontal-punt-with-your-ass-and-body-positioned-40-degrees-south-of-your-board version of the maneuver that we've all seen committed with far too much impunity
why are these things so damn hard to do properly
one of the East Coast's most promising young jets
to talk us through the physicality of the proper punt
So what are most people doing wrong when it comes to airs
There are a lot of mistakes to be made when you're going for an air
But I'd say double-grabs are the biggest mistake people are making
Let's keep it simple: Can you walk us through a few points of your standard frontside air
But somehow guys like Dane do these massive airs with
I'm still trying to figure that one out
but no so fast that you're gonna be out of control when you hit the section
What kind of a section are we supposed to be looking for
You can punt off a lot of different places on the wave
you want something like a closeout section when you first start off
Something with enough off a lip to push you out a bit
I like to approach the section by getting pretty low
you can use your legs for extension and kinda launch yourself
How similar is punting an air to doing an ollie
but if you think of it like that you'll start making some progress
you'll fall a lot in the beginning and hit the section wrong and land on your back
The only real trick is to just keep doing them
So let's say that we've managed to do everything right so far
I like to widen my stance right before I try to go for an air
That helps me stay over my board so I don't do a flyaway or anything
It doesn't really count unless you pull it
foamy part of the wave to land…just to feel it out for a while
Just remember when you're trying airs
But just keep going for it and work on your mistakes and it'll come

In a civil lawsuit filed in Manhattan state court Tuesday
ran a secret operation with Melissa Nathan
a communications professional with her own firm
The lawsuit alleges that the goal was to "destroy" Lively
Baldoni's co-star in "It Ends With Us," to cover up Baldoni's own misconduct on set
and went far beyond the legitimate scope of Abel's employment," Tuesday's lawsuit says
Abel and Nathan used the same tactics to wreck Jones's own reputation in order to siphon clients from her public relations company
The lawsuit from Jones — a powerful Hollywood publicist who has represented Jeff Bezos
and Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson — is the second legal salvo against Baldoni
On Friday, Lively filed a complaint against the same group with the California Civil Rights Department
adding sexually explicit scenes between their characters into the script
and walking into her trailer unannounced while she was undressed and breastfeeding
previously called Lively's allegations "completely false
outrageous and intentionally salacious." Freedman didn't respond to Business Insider's request for comment Tuesday
"You know we can bury anyone," Nathan wrote to Abel in a February text message included in Lively's complaint as they discussed how to propose the communications strategy to Baldoni
Lively's complaint alleges the campaign on behalf of Baldoni unfolded in secret alongside the public relations campaign for the movie
which was released in theaters in August and grossed over $350 million worldwide
Jones said in her lawsuit she fired Abel in August after she had "stolen more than 70 proprietary and sensitive business documents" as well as client information
Abel also tried to poach employees for a competing public relations firm
Nathan didn't respond to Business Insider's request for comment Tuesday
Abel provided a different account of how she left Jonesworks
She sent BI an email and text messages showing she submitted her resignation in July with plans to start her own public relations firm
Jones's attorney Kristin Tahler said she filed the lawsuit "to stop defendants' continuing misconduct and for Steph to recover the reputation."
this group has gaslit and disparaged Stephanie Jones and her company for financial gain
to settle personal scores and most recently to distract from their disgraceful smearing of Blake Lively," Tahler
Lively's complaint doesn't indicate how her lawyers obtained the purported campaign plan or the texts between Abel and Nathan
Jones's lawsuit offers a possible explanation: It says Abel's company-issued phone from Jonesworks was forensically preserved and examined after Jonesworks received a subpoena
"Abel and Nathan's covert take down and smear campaigns were revealed in black and white," Jones alleges
"Jones discovered the breadth and intensity of Abel and Nathan's duplicity from these records
including that Abel was actively encouraging other Jonesworks clients and employees to leave Jonesworks while Abel was still employed there," Jones's lawsuit alleges
Abel tried to turn Jones's clients against her so she and Nathan could steal them for her own firms
While Abel waged an intense publicity campaign on Baldoni's behalf
text messages show she held him in "extremely low regard," Jones's lawsuit alleges
"He may fire us because even if we put together an amazing campaign
it's not going to change the fact that he's so unlikable and unrealistic as a leading man," Abel wrote in one text message included in the lawsuit
"there's no chemistry with him and Blake."

IND - After dropping a battle of a conference game
0-1) bounced back and beat Centerville (2-2) 45-40
The first half was slow offensively and sloppy for both sides
The halftime score was only 13-11 in favor of the Bulldogs
both teams' defenses were shining.Delta forced 18 turnovers throughout the contest and played a gritty basketball game
Head coach Mark Detweiler was pleased with his team's effort during the second of two games in 24 hours.“Defensively
“We forced 18 turnovers and took five charges
both of those are key stats that coaches are pleased with early in the season
if we don't play a Friday night against a good Mount Vernon team
we probably don't have that grit tonight.”Although Detweiler was pleased with his team’s defensive efforts
he knows more work needs to be done offensively
Especially playing as difficult of a schedule as Delta does in the Hoosier Heritage Conference
“Offensively is a work in progress,” he said
I thought we were hesitant and passed up some shots
So just playing loose on the offensive end is the next step for this group.”Leading the way offensively for Delta was senior guard Cooper Bratton
Bratton tallied 11 points and was the evident vocal leader offensively
Senior forwards Bronson Edwards and Jordan Furney each had 10 points to aid in the efforts
who played quarterback for Delta football this fall
transfers his gridiron physicality to the paint.“Jordan and Bronson are who they are,” Detweiler said
They made the plays they needed to in the second half to kind of get us some separation to win that game.”Although Bratton
Edwards and Furney finished with double-digit totals
junior guard Lucas Bragg and sophomore guard Jackson Peters were the leading scorers with three points each
leading 31-24 heading into the final period
Centerville was able to make it a thriller
getting as close as three points with under five minutes to go in the game.“We just have to get comfortable closing out games,” Detweiler said
“The last thing I said to them tonight in the locker room was that we got a lot of new faces out there trying to close out a game
So we have to get guys comfortable in those situations
That’s what I think tonight was all about.”After getting off to a slow start in the first half
Delta picked up the pace and began to rain down threes and hit more shots in the final 16 minutes
Detweiler wanted his players to take more shots and not be as hesitant to shoot the ball.“We said at halftime
you're most open when you first catch it,” he said
“I told them to remember that when you catch the ball
you're probably not gonna be more open if you hesitate
I wanted them to just catch and shoot and stop thinking so much
they did a great job of that down the stretch.”Delta’s offense created more opportunities to score tonight in the second half of the game
Delta dropped just two three-point shots in the first half
a blimp compared to the five dropped in the second
“I thought we had more catch-and-shoot opportunities in the second half that we took advantage of
we have to play through that sort of passing and quick ball movement and our shooters have to do their job and be ready to make shots.”Delta’s next game comes Dec
The Eagles and Tigers have a history of hard-fought contests
Detweiler thinks the next installment will not be much different.“It’ll be what you kind of saw tonight in terms of the defensive effort,” he said
“Yorktown is gonna try to bring that same defensive effort and both teams have a lot of new faces getting comfortable
I think that everybody expects and just a matter of these new faces getting comfortable on both teams.”The tip-off for Delta vs

A fun “snapshot-in-time” whiskey that showcases what West Fork Whiskey Co
West Fork Whiskey Co. was established in 2014 in Indianapolis, Indiana, by three Indiana natives, brothers Blake Jones and Julian Jones, and childhood best friend David McIntyre. The company produces a number of bourbon and ryes under the West Fork Whiskey Co. name, along with the Old Hamer line of bourbon
which carries a 99% corn and 1% malted barley mashbill
West Fork Whiskey Co.’s cask strength bourbon is a full-flavored affair
and shows all kinds of promise but is still somewhat rough around the edges
as this is an enjoyable whiskey nonetheless
and it’s satisfying to taste the company’s in-house distillate at cask strength
Highlights include a wonderful caramel note on the nose
as well as a rich vanilla cream flavor on the palate
The long finish brings out allspice upfront
followed by a delicious graham cracker note
Sometimes a bottled whiskey isn’t a finished product
and only a small number of consumers are able to experience it
and has me excited for more releases to come
$50 per bottle for a cask strength 4 year old bourbon from an up-and-coming distillery is an unusually low price point
