The Quebec Maritimes Junior Hockey League is coming right down to the wire with teams battling for position heading into the playoffs
Right in the thick of it are the Blainville-Boisbriand Armada
who have a one-point advantage over the Rouyn-Noranda Huskies for top spot in the West Division and the No
The Armada own a 34-18-7 record but have been inconsistent lately
Their success this season has largely been in part due to winger Justin Carbonneau’s emergence as one of the top offensive players in the QMJHL
The 6-foot-1 winger is second in QMJHL scoring this season with 46 goals and 87 points
including four goals and one assist on Sunday during their 7-2 win over the Drummondville Voltigeurs
Carbonneau has been on fire since the start of the new year
putting up 23 goals and 40 points in 24 games

“The thing with Carbonneau is that he’s not interested in playing outside [the perimeter],” said TSN’s Director of Scouting Craig Button
“He’s a player that wants to put players on his heals and with his maturity
He’s using his skillset as something to use to impact a game.”
Carbonneau is a top prospect eligible for the 2025 NHL Draft in Los Angeles and has been steadily rising on prognosticators’ lists
He didn’t make an appearance on Button’s pre-season draft ranking and made his first appearance on the list in November at No
14. Button now thinks that’s not high enough
“We’re talking about a player that plays the game in a manner where he can be a first-line winger [in the NHL],” said Button
“Young players have to continue to learn and grow and find a way to make their skills more impactful
opponents are trying to figure out ways to stop them
so they have to continue to find ways to use those skills
“Some players can’t find a way to do it like they did in the lower levels and other players continue to move up
What I see from Carbonneau is him using his skillset as something to use to impact a game
He knows he can be a difference maker in every game that he plays.”
Supporting Carbonneau up front are a pair of players who are also eligible in this year’s NHL draft in Vincent Desjardins and Mateo Nobert
Desjardins sits tied for eighth in QMJHL scoring with 17 goals and 77 points
He recorded 15 goals and 47 points in 68 games last season and was invited to the Edmonton Oilers rookie camp in the preseason after going undrafted in the 2024 draft in Vegas.
Nobert was drafted third overall in the 2023 QMJHL draft by the Armada and has been steadily improving in his sophomore season in the league
The 6-foot centre has 28 goals and 67 points and
has been rising in a lot of draft rankings
“I think he can be a first-round draft pick when it’s all said and done and he’ll be in my top 32players,” said Button
I see someone who is so invested in being better
He’s another player who just continues to take his game to higher levels.”

The Armada are led on the blueline by Xavier Villeneuve
who is second among QMJHL defencemen in points with 12 goals and 61 points in 57 games this season
The 5-foot-10 left-shot defenceman is not eligible for the 2025 draft due to his September birthday
“He’s a small defenceman but he’s really good,” said Button
“He’s similar to Sam Girard [of the Colorado Avalanche]
He’s a dynamic offensive defenceman that can control he play and run the power play.”
The QMJHL Western Conference remains in flux with the Armada
and Sherbrook Phoenix all within four points of each other
while the Moncton Wildcats and Rimouski Oceanic are the teams to beat in the East
Button believes the top three teams in the QMJHL are the Wildcats
but he also believes that the Armada and other three teams in contention in the West are not too far behind Drummondville
“When teams like the Armada are playing against good teams and the games are tight
they have to find a way to win even if they can’t play to their strengths and the one thing you’re looking for is really good goaltending.”
Goaltending was an area of need that Blainville-Boisbriand recognized at the trade deadline and addressed the issue by acquiring Felix Hamel from the Cataracts in exchange for defenceman Noah Collette and two draft picks
Hamel has had an immediate impact on the club
going 14-2 with a 2.41 goals-against average and.926 save percentage since his arrival
He sits third in the league with an overall .918 save percentage and sixth with a 2.46 GAA
“If you don’t recognize where you have to be better
you’re going to have a hard time getting better,” said Button
“They recognized they had to improve their goaltending
Now the results are reflected in the numbers
Saginaw Spirit defenceman Zayne Parekh put himself in exclusive company at the beginning of March when he registered his 30th goal of the season
Parekh now joins the legendary Bobby Orr as the only two defencemen to register multiple 30-goal seasons in Ontario Hockey League history
The Calgary Flames prospect wasn’t done there
Parekh also became the 10th defenceman in OHL history to reach the 100-point plateau
He is the first to reach the mark since Ryan Ellis registered 24 goals and 101 points in 58 games during the 2010-11 season
he set the OHL rookie record goals by a defenceman (21) then last year he had 33 goals and this year he’s at 32 [and counting]
Parekh now has 32 goals and 101 points in 58 games this season with the Spirit to go along with a plus-42 rating on a team that is very different from the Memorial Cup champion from last season
It’s worth noting that Parekh still has five more regular-season games to add to his totals
Button believes that it’s not just Parekh’s physical attributes that makes him so effective offensively
but it’s his hockey sense and IQ that makes him unique
“He beats you up with his mind first and then all the skills come into play,” said Button
The other main thing is that he gets his shots on net
“How many defencemen are accurate like he is
He’s so dynamic first with his brain and hands
and then he combines that with the fact that he’s an excellent skater.”
Parekh spoke to TSN in February about his OHL journey and his overall development as an NHL prospect
When asked about what makes him such a strong force at the major junior level
he said it’s not just development in himself but changes in the league as well
“Each year as I continue to grow as a player and in the gym
the game seems to slow down a little bit for me because the league gets a little younger every year,” said Parekh
“I’ve been able to expose the skating differential there and
I’ve been playing with really good players
While Button understands where Parekh is coming from
he believes his success has more to do with the development of his game rather than the cycle of junior hockey players
He’s building his game and is maturing mentally and physically
It’s one thing to think you can but when you know you can
The 6-foot defenceman got his first taste of NHL action prior to the regular season where he participated in the Flames training camp and played in two preseason games
Parekh will still be eligible to return to the OHL for a fourth season next year
but his main objective is to try to make the Flames roster and cut his teeth at being an NHL player
While a large portion of whether Parekh will be successful at this will depend on the Flames’ roster and salary cap situations
Button believes that he can force the issue depending on his performance
“What I would tell him is that if he wants to play in the NHL next season
he’s going to have to be really consistent about his game,” said Button
but the coach has to know what he’s going to get from him
“The reason young players have to get the confidence of the coach is because the coach has to know what to expect when they’re on the ice
While there has been a lot of buzz surrounding Medicine Hat Tigers phenom Gavin McKenna at the top of the 2026 NHL Draft
a lot of other strong prospects have already begun to reveal themselves this season
Near the top of the list is Victoria Royals rookie defenceman Keaton Verhoeff
The 6-foot-4 right-shot defenceman is third among Western Hockey League blueliners with 20 goals this season to go along with 43 points in 57 games
He is among those leading the charge in Victoria as the team is tied with the Prince George Cougars for top spot in the B.C
Division with a 36-16-10 record and the second seed in the Western Conference
“McKenna is the best player in the 2026 draft
But Verhoeff is a 25-minute a game player who can play in any situation and excel.”
Keaton Verhoeff has his 17th goal of the season and the most goals scored in a season by a 16-year-old defenseman in the WHL since 1984-85! pic.twitter.com/g1gXutPCc2
Button believes one of the key aspects in Verhoeff’s development is having head coach James Patrick in his corner. Patrick took over as head coach of the team in November of 2023 after the team failed to make the playoffs three years in a row. He previously coached the Winnipeg Ice franchise (now Wenatchee Wild), taking the team to the WHL Championship Series in 2022-23.
“Two things that Verhoeff really benefits from is experience and his head coach,” said Button. “Playing for Patrick is getting taught by a hockey professor. He wasn’t in place when Verhoeff was drafted, so it’s like winning a lottery. He’s an outstanding coach and having him there is huge.”
The Royals are looking to make some noise in this year’s playoff run, but the team is built so that they can also be a force to be reckoned with next season as well. Led by 2025 NHL top prospect Cole Reschny, the Royals have 14 players eligible to return to the WHL next season.
“What they’re doing is really impressive,” said Button. "Reschny is a really good player, and they have good young players going into next year with a good coach. Based on where they’re at this year and how they can grow into next season, I think it’s significant.”
Lewis Gendron’s tiebreaking goal in extra minutes gave the Cape Breton Eagles a 5-4 overtime victory over the Blainville-Boisbriand Armada during their Quebec Maritimes Junior Hockey League matchup on Saturday night at Sydney’s Centre 200

Brayden Schmitt opened the Eagles’ scoring before the Armada responded with a pair of goals. Near end of the second period, Joseph Henneberry, Luke Patterson and Cam Squires each potted in single markers to put the Eagles (24-17-4-3) up 4-3. The Armada tied the game at 4-4 near the end of regulation.
An odd man rush allowed Gendron to come up along the left wing and put the puck past Armada goalie Vincent Gladu 2:52 into overtime for the game winner in front of 3,980 attendees.
Justin Carbonneau scored twice for Blainville-Boisbriand (28-17-3-0). Mateo Nobert added a goal and Théo Lemieux provided the game-tying goal with just under two minutes remaining in regulation.
Jakub Milota made just 13 saves for the Eagles, while the Armada’s Gladu stopped 28 of 33 shots.
The Eagles return to action on Thursday night for the Battle of the Nova Scotia in Halifax against the Mooseheads (17-26-6-1). Puck drop at Scotiabank Centre is scheduled for 7 p.m.

the Cape Breton Eagles found themselves on the wrong end of the scoreboard against the Moncton Wildcats on Thursday night
The Eagles were edged 3-2 in a shootout by the Wildcats in Quebec Maritimes Junior Hockey League action at Avenir Centre in Moncton
Cape Breton also lost to Moncton 3-0 on Feb
Loke Johansson and Dylan MacKinnon scored in regulation time for the Wildcats
Julius Sumpf scored the winner in the shootout
Joseph Henneberry scored both goals for the Eagles
Cape Breton’s Jakub Milota stopped 26 of 28 shots
The Eagles opened the scoring at 4:19 of the first period with Henneberry notching his 18th of the season
but the Wildcats responded before the end of the frame with Johansson scoring his third goal of the campaign to tie the contest 1-1
The game would remain tied until the third period when MacKinnon found the back of the net for his third of the season at 7:15
but Cape Breton answered just over two minutes later with Henneberry’s second of the game
Overtime would solve nothing despite the Eagles outshooting the Wildcats 3-0 in the extra frame
after both Cape Breton’s Alexandre Guy and Moncton’s Markus Vidicek missed their opportunities
the Eagles’ Jacob Newcombe and Wildcats’ Caleb Desnoyers would score on their clubs’ second shots
Sumpf would score on Moncton’s third attempt
putting the pressure on Cam Squires to keep the shootout going
Cape Breton outshot Moncton 40-28 while going 1-for-2 on the power play
The Wildcats were 0-for-1 with the man-advantage
The Eagles will now turn their attention to the Blainville-Boisbriand Armada
who the club will host on Saturday night at Centre 200 in Sydney
will look to snap a three-game losing streak
the team entered Friday night’s game against the Halifax Mooseheads as one of the hottest teams in the league
having won eight of their last 10 games and find themselves three points ahead of the Eagles in the overall standings
The Armada’s surge comes more than a month after the club traded league-leading scorer Jonathan Fauchon to the Memorial Cup-host Rimouski Océanic
Cape Breton and Blainville-Boisbriand last played on Nov
with the Armada shutting out the Eagles 4-0
Saturday’s game will be the final regular season meeting of the year between the two clubs
The game will also see a showdown between brothers with the Eagles’ Romain L’Italien facing older brother Eliot L’Italien for the second time in their junior careers
Former Eagle draft pick Alexandre Carbonneau will also be in the Armada lineup
Newcombe leads the Eagles with 27 goals and 51 points in 47 games while Cam Squires has 16 goals and 50 points in 41 games
and Tomas Lavoie has 11 goals and 43 points in 44 games
Justin Carbonneau leads the Armada with 32 goals and 64 points in 45 games while Vincent Desjardins has 14 goals and 60 points in 46 games
Mateo Nobert has 22 goals and 53 points in 45 games
Cape Breton will hit the road again to face the Mooseheads in Halifax on Thursday
before returning home to battle the Sherbrooke Phoenix on Feb
– Eagles forward Angelo Fullerton was given a match penalty and a game misconduct for hit on Samuel Kupec
Kupec left the ice on a stretcher and an update on his condition was not available immediately following the game
– In the same sequence following Fullerton’s hit
Cape Breton’s Lucas Romeo & Eliot Litalien each picked up twelve minutes in penalties
Cape Breton’s Joey Henneberry & Brayden Schmitt took ten minute misconducts
Eagles forward Cam Squires and Blainville-Boisbriand defenseman Olivier Filaj were ejected for fighting
while Brandon Lavoie stopped all 13 shots in relief coming into the game to begin the third period
The first period offered little indication of a testy game
played entirely five on five except for a minor penalty to Romeo
Both teams had plenty of chances- the shots were 13 a piece- but neither team could find the back of the net
The Armada breakthough came before the five minute mark of the middle stanza when Ogonowski scored the first of his two goals
the Eagles pressed on the penalty kill and actually drew a penalty
But the Armada would score in the final portion of the man advantage
as Xavier Villeneuve finished a cross ice pass from Jonathan Fauchon
Squires was given the extra penalty after the fight for attempting to take Filaj’s helmet off
and the Armada capitalized just ten seconds into the power play when Theo Lemieux converted on the right side of the net
Ogonowski jumped into the slot and put the puck in the top corner to make it 4-0 and ultimately finish the scoring
The Eagles are next in action tomorrow afternoon as they visit Calgary first round draft pick Matvei Gridin and the Shawinigan Cataractes

Blainville-Boisbriand really turned the tables in the game with their middle period with four goals in just over 11 minutes of action
That included a power play marker and a shorthanded goal
Mateo Norbert got one on the man advantage at 3:58 to tie the game 2-2
Then it was Zakary Lavoie at the 5:18 mark followed by Matt Gosselin at 10:40 and Egor Goriunov capped off the Armada barrage when he came out of the box after a failed two-man advantage by the Moose and scored shorthanded when Handel sent a point shot into his shins that ricocheted into the neutral zone where it was chased down by Goriunov
The third period was rather uneventful as Blainville sat back defensively and Kennedy’s late goal was all for naught in the final seconds of action
The Moose were 0-for-6 on the power play while the Armada struck twice on three chances
Halifax’s record dipped to 13-23-6-0 after a second straight loss
The Quebec trip began with an overtime win over Rimouski
The Mooseheads will return home to the Scotiabank Centre this Thursday to face Acadie-Bathurst at 7pm. That game starts a busy weekend for the Herd at home. They also host Chicoutimi on Friday at 7pm and Saint John on Sunday at 3pm. Tickets are on sale now at Ticketmaster.ca
The Charlottetown Islanders gave everything they had on Wednesday night at the Eastlink Centre but came up short in a 3-1 loss to the Blainville-Boisbriand Armada
outshooting and outplaying the hottest team in the QMJHL but unable to come away with the win
1st Period: A Physical Start and a Costly Penalty
The game started at a blistering pace with few stoppages in play
The Isles got the first powerplay of the night when Olivier Lemieux was called for boarding Ethan Montroy
After a goalie interference call on Simon Hughes
the Armada struck first when Mateo Nobert buried a goal off a setup from NHL draft prospect Justin Carbonneau
The Islanders put up a strong effort despite missing top scorers
The Islanders came out strong in the 2nd period
proving they could go toe-to-toe with the Armada despite their shorthanded lineup
The momentum seemed to be shifting in Charlottetown’s favour
but frustration grew as they couldn’t seem to beat goaltender Felix Hamel
Zachary Plamondon fired a shot that snuck through traffic
and Kyle Powers pounced on the loose puck to tie the game 1-1 with 4:47 remaining in the frame
the Armada regained the lead when Xavier Villeneuve’s point shot found its way through a screen
Putting Blainville ahead 2-1 heading into the final frame
throwing everything they had at Armada goaltender Felix Hamel
Pavel Simek was robbed on the doorstep early
and as the Islanders continued to dominate play
the referees blew a whistle at a crucial moment
Stopping play while the Isles were in a prime scoring position—leaving the crowd confused
Despite relentless pressure and a massive shot advantage (28-17 by the end of the game)
scoring on an odd-man rush with Blainville’s 1st shot of the period to seal the 3-1 win
The Islanders will quickly shift their focus to tomorrow night’s game against Drummondville at the Eastlink Centre
the Isles will look to bounce back and turn their strong play into a victory
Charlottetown proved once again that they can compete with the league’s best—even while shorthanded
and if they can bring the same intensity tomorrow
they’ll have a great chance to get back in the win column

The home arena of the Blainville-Boisbriand Armada of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League is seen Wednesday
— Eighteen members of a team in the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League have tested positive for the novel coronavirus
The Blainville-Boisbriand Armada announced the breakout Wednesday
two days after they suspended in-person activities
That move came after learning of one positive test following the first weekend of regular-season play in the QMJHL
Players and staff have been placed in isolation for 14 days
Team activities are suspended indefinitely
The Sherbrooke Phoenix also suspended in-person activities after playing the Armada twice last weekend
The QMJHL was the only one of three Canadian major-junior hockey leagues to open play around its traditional start date during the COVID-19 pandemic
The Ontario Hockey League and Western Hockey League have said they hope to start in December
The Armada’s problems started Monday with the positive test along with an announcement by the Quebec government affecting Blainville-Boisbriand and the Quebec Remparts
The government announced team sports are among the activities being barred in Quebec’s COVID-19 "red zones," which include the greater Montreal area and Quebec City
The Armada are based just under 22 miles (35 kilometres) northwest of Montreal
"Although our sanitary and medical protocol is very strict and rigorous
we knew that COVID-19 was highly infectious and could eventually hit certain players and team staff members," QMJHL commissioner Gilles Courteau said in a statement as reported by the Canadian Press
we are extremely confident that the measures contained in our contingency plan
The QMJHL’s schedule this season features only intra-divisional play
The six teams based in the Atlantic provinces do not enter Quebec
so I wanted to play as much as I could this year," said Chicoutimi Sagueneens centre Hendrix Lapierre
who played two games with his team this past weekend before he was selected 22nd overall by the Washington Capitals in the NHL draft on Tuesday night
"I feel like it’s kind of an advantage for us to be able to play

The Ouy family takes charge with drinks and dishes reflecting a new generation of Cambodian restaurateurs
“Kampot peppers are a staple in all parts of Cambodia,” says Alida Ouy, one of the owners of Kampot
a new restaurant on the North Shore suburb of Boisbriand
those peppers she brings back season all our food.”
The Kampot peppers — and Ouy’s mother’s recipes — are at the heart of the Southeast Asian choices at this new 60-seater (plus terrasse) in the Faubourg Boisbriand
Kampot is the offspring of Mama Ouy
the pandemic pop-up named after Alida’s mom
Once that business wound down in February 2021
and her brother made plans to quit their day jobs
and put together a food and drinks menu that reflected their energy and commitment to continuity
realized by chef Sean Basuel and assisted by brother Heng Te
reflects what the Ouy family ate at home: food inspired by the entire region
Basuel moved into the family home to train with Mama Ouy
“Kroeung is a Cambodian word for the flavour pastes that form the base of most of our foods
depending on the dish.” Cambodian food also features extensive use of fermented foods like shrimp paste and mudfish paste
providing a pungent baseline to the flavours
alongside Cambodian dishes like amok (a classic fish curry)
all infused with Southeast Asian aromatics like lemongrass
“The flavours for the food and drinks are strong and bold
referencing the restaurant’s instagram branding and the wall mural painted by her sister and business partner Anika
which connects the countries of the region
Kampot’s inventive cocktails all reference the family’s roots: the Sok Sa Bai (sake with coconut
calpico and Malibu) literally means “happy country,” but informally translates to “how are you?”; and Fansipan Dan (gin
and ginger bitters) is named after a mountain in Vietnam
It’s all part of creating a fun bar experience as well as a place to eat great Southeast Asian food
because that was the only kind of Asian food people were familiar with at the time,” Alida remarks
my siblings and I have a restaurant and bar with items that we dare to put on a menu
Kampot is open Tuesday to Sunday at 3375 Avenue des Grandes Tourelles
We have our very first series out of the Western Conference confirmed for the opening round of the 2024 Gilles-Courteau Trophy Playoffs
who finished third in the Central Division
will cross swords with the West Division’s second-place team
This best-of-seven series will be played in a standard 2-2-1-1-1 format
The first two matchups will be played at Sherbrooke’s Palais des Sports Léopold-Drolet
the next two will be held in Boisbriand at the Centre d’excellence Sports Rousseau
Here’s the schedule for the Sherbrooke (4th – West) vs. Blainville-Boisbriand (5th – West) series:
— Cole Burbidge was the overtime hero as the Cape Breton Eagles earned a 2-1 road victory over the Blainville-Boisbriand Armada in Quebec Major Junior Hockey League action Saturday
Cam MacDonald opening the scoring on the power play for the Eagles (9-7-0-0) in the second
tipping Tomas Lavoie’s shot past Armada netminder Edouard Gauthier
Xavier Sarrasin pushed a rebound past Eagles goalie Nicolas Ruccia to tie the game 1-1
The Eagles were given a big opportunity in OT when an errant line change by Blainville-Boisbrand led to a too many men on the ice penalty
The Armada (8-5-2-2) were able to fend off the Eagles for the first half of the penalty
but couldn’t stop a rising shot from Burbidge going over the shoulder of Gauthier to finish the game in the extra session
Cape Breton was blanked 2-0 by the Sherbrooke Phoenix
Lewis Gendron and Maxime Côté had the goals for the Phoenix (8-5-0-1)
Sherbrooke’s Samuel St-Hilaire stopped all 19 shots he faced for his second career QMJHL shutout
Cape Breton’s Jakub Milota stopped 24 of 25 shots
The Eagles now return home for a Thursday night matchup against the Phoenix
It’s the only visit Sherbrooke will make to Centre 200 this season

Make it three losses in a row for the Halifax Mooseheads but it certainly wasn’t from a lack of effort
The Moose ran into a red hot goalie in Emile Samson as the Armada skated to a 3-1 win on Thursday night in Blainville-Boisbriand
BOX SCORE
Samson withstood a barrage from the Mooseheads throughout the game but turned aside 35 of 36 shots and was the difference in the Armada victory
The Herd had double digit shots in each period as they carried the play for the majority of the night at the Centre d’excellence Sports Rousseau
The Armada opened the scoring on a strange goal midway through the second period when Simon Pinard tallied on a shot that was just tossed at the net and it fooled Mooseheads starter Cole McLaren who suffered his first loss in six starts this season
McLaren finished with 18 saves and Halifax’s record dropped to 17-7-1-0
Jared McIsaac pulled his team even with a huge goal on a point shot at 14:27 of the third period but the Mooseheads didn’t have time to celebrate let alone blink an eye because Blainville-Boisbriand came right back down the ice off the ensuing draw and Alexander Katerinakis restored the lead a mere 10 seconds after the McIsaac tally
With the Mooseheads pressing once again to find the tying goal
Coach Eric Veilleux pulled McLaren from the net late in regulation and Halifax couldn’t find a way to beat the hot Samson for a second time and Katerinakis floated a shot from center ice into the empty cage with 33 seconds to go to seal the game
The Herd went 0-3 on the power play while they improved their QMJHL-leading penalty killing percentage by stopping Blainville-Boisbriand on all four of their attempts
3 Stars: Samson was the clear cut first star with 35 saves
Katerinkas was named the second star with two goals while Simon Bolduc led both teams with five hits in the game and took the third star
Scratches: The Mooseheads were without forward Ostap Safin who is dealing with a nagging lower body injury
Defenceman Jake Ryczek also missed the game with a lower body injury while injuries also continued to keep rookies Cole Stewart and Samuel Dube out of the lineup
Next Up: Halifax will travel to Shawinigan to face off with the Cataractes on Friday night at 8:30PM AST
Shawinigan suffered a 7-1 loss to Moncton on Thursday to fall to 7-17-1-1
Listen to the game live on News 95.7 with Garreth MacDonald
— Goals from Jacob Newcombe early in the first and third periods helped lead the Cape Breton Eagles to a 5-0 shutout over Blainville-Boisbriand Armada in Quebec Major Junior Hockey League action Saturday night at the Centre Excellence Sports Rousseau
Charles Boutin and William Shields also scored for the Eagles (20-27-3-1)
while goaltender Nicolas Ruccia picked up his second career shutout stopping all 30 shots
Netminder Nicholas Sheehan made 24 saves for the Armada (20-26-5-2)
With more than seven minutes remaining and his team unable to score
Blainville-Boisbriand coach Bruce Richardson elected to pull Sheehan and add on an extra attacker
that move didn’t pay off as Shields potted in an empty-netter from his own end to seal the victory
the Eagles came back from an early three-goal deficit
but it was two third-period goals by the Shawinigan Cataractes that were in the third period that was difference in Cape Breton’s 5-4 loss
Stéphane Jr Huard and Lorenzo Canonica both had a four-point performances
while Isaac Ménard chipped in with a single marker for the Cataractes (24-24-2-2 after Saturday’s games)
Trevor Thurston and Olivier Houde had a goal and an assist each
while Newcombe and Squires also fired home goals for the Eagles
Shawinigan’s Rémi Delafontaine made 33 saves
Cape Breton’s Oliver Satny stopped 20 of 25 shots
The Eagles will continue their Quebec road trip on Wednesday night
when they head to Val-d’Or to play the Foreurs (20-29-2-0 before Sunday’s game)
The Charlottetown Islanders are in the midst of a five-game home stand and have kicked it off on the right foot
They play their third game in a row at the Eastlink Centre tonight when they take on the Blainville-Boisbriand Armada in their first matchup of the season
Charlottetown (7-7-1-0) sent the Eastlink Centre crowd home happy with an exciting effort Thursday night against the Moncton Wildcats
Antoine Michaud scored the game-winning goal with just under three minutes left to go in regulation as the Isles defeated the Wildcats 3-2
Marcus Kearsey and Jeremie Biakabutuka picked up two assists while Michael Horth scored his team-leading 9th goal of the season
Francesco Lapenna was excellent once again
the Islanders received some positive news as Will Allen has been upgraded to a game-time decision
He will hopefully be available for the Islanders along with forward Sam Bowness
who served the second game of a two-game suspension for a staged fight in his last game against the Rimouski Oceanic
they’ll look to get back in the win column after dropping the first game of their Maritime road trip last night 5-3 to the Acadie-Bathurst Titan
It hasn’t been an ideal to the season for a young team that many expected to be one of the strongest in the QMJHL’s Western Conference; last night’s defeat makes it four losses in their past five games
Two bright spots for the Armada have been the play of Jonathan Fauchon and Alexis Gendron
The duo are both firmly in the top 25 of the QMJHL points race; Gendron
is tied for fifth among all players with 12 goals on the season
The pair have been the proverbial linchpins to the Armada offense thus far this season
This will be the first time that PEI products Zach Biggar and Colby Huggan visit the Eastlink Centre this season
Biggar spent plenty of time in Charlottetown last season as a member of the Titan; for Huggan
this will be just his second game in front of his hometown crowd
Charlottetown exorcised past demons against Blainville-Boisbriand last season
defeating the Armada in both matchups against their one-time playoff rivals
the Islanders had not defeated the Armada in regular season play since March 4th
You can still get tickets for tonight’s game by visiting the Eastlink Centre box office, by phone at 902-629-6625, or online by clicking HERE

Raufoss Canada will carry out major work to retrofit its Boisbriand plant in Québec and expand its production capacity over the next three years
which received $7 million in financial support under the ESSOR program administered by Investissement Québec and the Ministère de l'Économie
The manufacturer of forged aluminum car suspension components will install a hot forging line and new automated equipment
upgrade its existing line and develop new products
The company’s plans involve investing $9 million to design
develop and produce parts using new manufacturing processes
<p“This initiative demonstrates our firm intention to pursue our operations in Québec
The new investment will enable us to produce high-quality products at very competitive prices
which bodes well for our ability to secure new contracts from global automobile manufacturers,” said Jean Meredith
The demand for aluminum suspension arms is on the rise across the automotive industry because of new emission regulations
which are forcing manufacturers to reduce vehicle weights
Making North American vehicles lighter through the increased use of aluminum opens up prospects that are particularly enticing for Québec’s processing companies
Raufoss Canada is a subsidiary of Neuman Aluminium
which operates 13 plants across seven countries
the company’s Boisbriand plant today produces 3 million pieces a year exported to the U.S.
Neuman Aluminium belongs to an Austrian holding company

MONTREAL, Dec. 20, 2019 /CNW Telbec/ - The Montreal Metropolitan Community (MMC) has in recent days spoken out against the granting of an authorization by the Quebec Agricultural Land Protection Commission (CPTAQ) to provide for a zoning exclusion in favour of Le Quartier-Forestia
the opinion of the MMC appears to be based on erroneous and in some cases
The land which Le Quarter-Forestia seeks to develop is in an agricultural zone
but none of it has been used for large-scale agricultural purposes for some 20 years
A fraction of the arable area is being tended for personal and cosmetic purposes only
the suggestion by the MMC to the effect that there is space elsewhere on its territory as well as in the Sainte-Thérèse and Boisbriand areas for a development like Le Quartier-Forestia
The observations and calculations leave us perplexed
The site that has been chosen by the developers is officially designated as having agricultural potential ("class 2" and "class 3")
but none of this potential can be realized given its location and the absence of demand
The Le Quartier-Forestia project is in full compliance with a list of 15 criteria as set out by the MMC and the specifications exceed the requirements of the MMC's own management and development plan
"The zone is bordered by a residential area to the east and highways to the north and to the west
It cannot be properly managed for agricultural use
but a well-designed project like that of Le Quartier-Forestia will bring stewardship to the land for generations to come" says Raymond Lessard (President of Le Quartier-Forestia)
Le Quartier-Forestia would include a maple grove and 53 hectares of green space including parks
which is designed to be a "Transit Oriented Development (TOD)" from the ground up
represents an investment of some 1.2 billion dollars
A green jewel for Boisbriand and for all who would tread her paths
We urgently request a meeting with officials of the MMC so that we may provide as much additional information as required in order to reassure policymakers and citizens alike that approval of the Le Quartier-Forestia project is in the better interests of all
