It has been a sad week in the small city of Lachute
approximately 60 miles from Montréal
A funeral was held on Friday morning for 13-year-old Océane Boyer
Her body was found by a rural road in the nearby town of Brownsburg-Chatham on February 26
was arrested by police on February 27 in Montréal
He was subsequently charged with first-degree murder and made his first court appearance on February 28

Flags were at half-mast outside all city buildings for the following week
baker Félix Marcoux said the murder was a tragedy for the whole community
He did not know Océane but knew her older sister and one of her cousins when he was in high school

and many more gathered to show respect and comfort each other
Three chartered school buses brought mourners from the youth center in Lachute and many more followed in private vehicles
Caroline Sarrazin and her father Francis Boyer were extremely emotional as they exited a car and made their way through the crowd to the white cross with Océane’s photo on it beside the wooded road
and others placed flowers and stuffed toys by the cross
music played over a loudspeaker atop a parked car and the crowd released balloons into the sky in remembrance of Océane
She collapsed to the ground and another woman standing nearby screamed at a high volume and then began to cry loudly
The single Québec provincial police officer and a police cadet present told the crowd to clear the area and leave
rural road was barely passable due to the long line of parked cars and buses that extended along it and nearby Route 327
People began to shout at others to leave and gradually they listened
Others took control and directed traffic on the highway
More police officers and an ambulance were waiting in the parking lot of a nearby lumberyard.
