A seven-year-old missing Chilliwack girl has been found alive
after she went missing from Winona Road in the Chilliwack River Valley the previous day around 4 p.m
she's in good health as far as we can tell."
Chilliwack RCMP had just wrapped up a press conference when media were called back to the detachment for the good news
Bowerman said that Lily had wandered "quite a distance" from her home
but was in good enough shape to walk out on foot with the search-and-rescue team in place.
"I really want to the opportunity to thank the citizens of Chilliwack that assisted in this search," he said
Bowerman had explained the lengths that rescuers had already gone to in order to find the young girl
She had chased some neighbour's dogs into the woods beside her home on Thursday (May 1) at about 4 p.m
the dogs returned but Lily did not.
A massive search was launched immediately by neighbours in the closely knit rural area
People in Chilliwack gathered Thursday evening to help in the search for a missing seven-year-old girl
and she still hadn't been found by Friday at noon.
Chilliwack RCMP put a call out at 10 p.m
Thursday night, asking for the public's help to find Lily Coursol
Chilliwack Search and Rescue is on scene with a command unit
and crews from around the Fraser Valley were out until about 5 a.m.
They are conducting a full search on the ground
According to a Chilliwack RCMP news release
crews are using “all technological resources available” to find Coursol.
They are urging those who want to help to stay away from the area and let the search and rescue teams do their work
Initially there were about 20 neighbours searching for the girl into the night
and a call was put out for more searchers to arrive Friday morning.
officials decided to stick with trained search crews
and those who arrived were turned away. A police checkpoint is in place along Sleese Road.
"We understand the public’s concern and wanting to help; however
the search consists of difficult terrain and is a heavily wooded area
Untrained personnel in the area will make search efforts more difficult and put others at unnecessary risk," Chilliwack RCMP said.
Police say the child apparently followed her neighbour's dogs into a wooded area but did not return with them
An air and ground search are currently underway
She was last seen wearing all pink clothing.
Anyone with information on the whereabouts of Lily Coursol is urged to contact their local police, or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 (TIPS)

Curl BC has announced the creation of the BC Curling Hall of Fame to honour the people who’ve helped shape the sport’s heritage and culture across the province.
Leading the inaugural group of inductees are Bernie Sparkes of Chilliwack and Sonja Gaudet of Vernon
Both are already members of the World Curling Hall of Fame
“We wanted to find a way to inaugurate our curling hall in a way that best represented the rich history of our sport in BC,” said Earlene Graham
“Retroactively inducting those who were already representing curling in either the World Curling Hall of Fame
Canadian Curling Hall of Fame and BC Sports Hall of Fame was that inspired solution.”
Sparkes made his name in Alberta before moving to BC in 1970
He won three World Curling Championships in the 1960s and represented both Alberta and British Columbia at the Brier
He was inducted into the Canadian Hall of Fame in 1974
Gaudet is one of the most accomplished wheelchair curlers in the world
A three-time Paralympic gold medallist (2006
she also won three world championships and served as Canada’s flag bearer at the 2014 Sochi Games
she was inducted into Canada’s Sports Hall of Fame and awarded the Order of Sport
She has also appeared on a Canada Post stamp
“This special class spans more than 100 years of curling achievement in British Columbia,” said Scott Braley
“It represents what we believe to be a deserving starting point and dynamic cross-section of those who have helped shape curling history
The BC Curling Hall of Fame will be established on June 7
in conjunction with the Curl BC Annual General Meeting at the Kelowna Curling Club
and pioneers all previously recognized by at least one of the major curling or sports halls
Curl BC is working on a virtual hall of fame and plans to partner with member clubs across the province to serve as local satellite showcases
Clubs can apply to be part of this network through Curl BC
up to seven new inductees will be selected each year
More details on criteria and nomination deadlines will be announced at curlbc.ca
with March 31 expected to be the annual cutoff for future nominations starting in 2026
Anyone with historical information, memorabilia, or media related to BC curling legends is encouraged to reach out to Bryan Chan at bchan@curlbc.ca

While a group of volunteer heroes was out in the woods rescuing a seven-year-old Chilliwack girl
our members were heavily involved with the search for the missing seven-year-old in Chilliwack
while assisting with the extraction of the girl
our members had their gear stolen from the scene," Coquitlam Search and Rescue wrote on social media on May 3
and others all helped locate Lily Coursol on Friday
May 2 who went missing the day before in the Chilliwack River Valley area
"The majority of our member's gear is self-funded and will need to be replaced to be operational on future tasks; this keeps everyone safe
This gear will cost tens of thousands of dollars to replace."
A GoFundMe page was set up by Chilliwack resident Amber Price to help raise money to replace the stolen gear
It is estimated that each bag contained between $4,000 and $5,000 worth of gear
a total of $9,780 had been raised and the fundraiser had been paused.
"(Coquitlam SAR) would like to reassure volunteers and the public that
stolen or damaged equipment is covered through Emergency Management and Climate Readiness
To read the full GoFundMe update, go to gofundme.com/f/replace-these-heroes-stolen-backpacks-and-belongings
Price is encouraging folks who still wish to help, to make a donation to Chilliwack Search and Rescue which was the lead search-and-rescue organization for this mission. Chilliwack Search and Rescue just moved into their new headquarters earlier this year and they still need to raise about $750,000 for the $4.3 million facility. search and rescue crews found Lily unharmed
Jeff Bowerman of the Upper Fraser Valley Regional Detachment
Bowerman said he did not know where Lily was found
but that it was “quite a distance” from her property
“She is being walked out — as we speak — under her own power,” he said within 30 minutes of getting the phone call that she was found
Lily will be taken to a clinic or hospital as a precaution
but that she was able to walk on her own was good news
police had set up a barricade at the bottom of Slesse Road
about 3.5 kilometres from the area Lily was last seen
Numerous police and search and rescue crews were in the area of Chilliwack Lake Road
a 40-kilometre road leading to Chilliwack Lake Park
Tanesha Vaughan said her son was part of a small group of kayakers who searched the river early Friday morning
“They checked the eddies and log jams and areas you can’t see (from the river bank),” she said
Vaughan said her heart went out to the girl and her family
Campers at the Tamihi Creek Recreation Site said they’d heard helicopters overhead for much of the morning
Jenny Devost and her dog Jackson came to the search area to help but were turned away
Devost said she understands that police and searchers need space
but her boyfriend has a seven-year-old daughter and she wanted to help
with small creeks running through the trees to the river
Residents were asked to avoid the area to allow emergency responders and investigative teams to operate without interference
“We understand the public’s concern and wanting to help; however
the search consists of difficult terrain and is a heavily wooded area,” said RCMP
“Untrained personnel in the area will make search efforts more difficult and put others at unnecessary risk.”

an original score by Dora Award-winning music director
and atmospheric multimedia visuals from Okanagan landscape artist Jane Everett.
The performance marks the first time in more than 40 years that a Canadian ballet company has commissioned a female Canadian choreographer to create a full-length work

A Chilliwack man is calling his theatre production
about judgment and forgiveness, one that is "outside of the ordinary."
a play written and directed by Clint Hames
is at the Chilliwack Cultural Centre May 9 to 11
Hames worked with and supported people with developmental disabilities
He wanted to tell some of their "amazing" stories through Hector
"The play is really a compendium of a number of different stories from my life supporting people with disabilities
but I use him as a vehicle to tell the stories from a bunch of different people's lives
and I kind of put them all together in one person's life."
The play takes place in Saskatoon in the early 1980s and follows Hector Martinoff
who's in his 50s and has a disability.
suddenly brought back together following the death of the family matriarch
Will her estranged daughter be able to put the past behind her and be the support Hector needs or will the past be too hard for either to face
will the helping professionals – ever-present in a person with a disability’s life – rush to judge
You think the play is going in one direction and then it takes a couple of very sharp turns."
Hames said and about asking the question: what is forgiveness
"It's about our rush to judgment," Hames added
Just by a couple of words or key phrases we can immediately leap to judgment and how wrong we can be."
who also worked with people with disabilities for many years
"Graham has a deep understanding and is unbelievably respectful," Hames said
Archer touched on the difficulties in portraying his character.
"The biggest challenge for me is not making it caricature-ish
not making it so that it seems like I'm poking fun at somebody or anything like that – God forbid you'd never want to do that," Archer said
"You just want to show that the person is a person
Hames is hoping people will come away with a better understanding of others
"I would like people to understand not to be so judgmental
to inquire about people who are different and to get to know people that are different before you judge," he said. "You never know people's stories and what has got them to where they are."
Playing the other four characters are Anthony Youssef (as Dallas Nelson)
the play is about two hours and 20 minutes long
It is geared towards those aged 15 and older
and includes some swearing and talk about family abuse

Re: Strahl elected to fifth term; continues to back Poilievre
I was disappointed to read Mark Strahl’s comments that the Conservative focus would be that Canadians go to the polls sooner rather than later
Did he not hear his leader say that they must work towards two common goals; Canada’s identity and developing potential economic initiatives that benefit all Canadians
Partisanship must be set aside for the good of the country
It’s time for our politicians to be adults and lead/act accordingly
Veterans fought for our freedom and for what Canada is today
How sad to see narrow-minded politicians disregard the potential of our country for the sake of power

Police say the vehicle and load have now been “un-stuck” and moved off the road
“The overpass itself has visible damage

The BC Ministry of Transportation is reportedly evaluating the damage

Drivers in the area are advised to slow down and exercise caution
Tuesday’s strike marks the 11th overpass strike in B.C
The truck involved was carrying an undetermined load covered in orange tarps
the Abbotsford Police Department says it’s not the same truck as the one hauling a similar-looking load involved in taking down electrical lines in Abbotsford later Tuesday
Police say the trucks belong to two separate companies
but the loads belong to the “same shipper.”
