In 2025, homeowners living on the territory of the City of Coteau-du-Lac will see their municipal tax bills increase by 3.125%. Next year's fiscal year, which includes a decrease in the general tax rate, was unanimously adopted by elected officials at a special meeting held this Tuesday, December 10 at 7pm.
For the year beginning January 1, 2025, the City of Coteau-du-Lac's operating budget will be $18,219,841, compared with $16,114,809 for the fiscal year ending December 31. The difference between the two budgets is 2,015,032, or 11.55%.
The vast majority of the Town's revenues in 2025 will come from municipal taxes, which are expected to bring in $15,479,245, or $1,630,661 more than in 2024, for a difference of 10.53%.
Other sources of revenue anticipated in the 2025 budget are: payment in lieu of taxes ($144,888), transfers ($673,865), services rendered ($792,716), fees ($764,050), fines and penalties ($32,100) and interest ($332,976).
Tax rates per $100 of assessment, which will be officially adopted by elected officials in January, are calculated as follows:
For services offered to residents, the tax rate in 2025 will be: $195 for water, $215 for sewer and sanitation, $107 for garbage and $64 for organic matter.
In 2024, the tax rate per $100 of assessment for the residential sector was set at $0.48. What explains this significant drop?
“We're changing the assessment roll in 2025, and since residential values have risen considerably, the tax rate will drop accordingly,” explained Jacques Legault, Director General of the City of Coteau-du-Lac.

a number of municipalities in the Vaudreuil-Soulanges region
have contacted Hydro-Québec in connection with frequent power outages on their respective territories
the municipality's incessant requests to the Société d'État prompted the latter to rebuild the Saint-Polycarpe substation.
Les Coteaux asked Hydro-Québec to carry out an analysis of the electricity distribution infrastructures supplying Les Coteaux and to provide a detailed report
the locality obtained answers from the Société d'État concerning the quality of electricity service on its territory
in response to municipal resolution 24-12-8886 adopted in December 2024
Hydro-Québec reports that 2024 saw a significant reduction in outages
residents of Les Coteaux experienced the fewest outages and triggers in the last five years
residents experienced less than 53 minutes of outages during normal operating times
according to information provided by Hydro-Québec
When major weather events are taken into account
this figure rises to around 3 hours,” reads the response sent to the municipal administration
a year in which a number of weather-related events caused numerous power outages
totaling nearly 63 hours of outages for our territory
vegetation control and adaptation to climate change
These efforts are aimed at preventing outages and strengthening the network's resilience to extreme weather events.”
Hydro-Québec would like to remind residents that they can report any service quality problems directly to their customer service department
The Municipality of Les Coteaux is attentive to the concerns of its residents
and will continue to monitor the situation to keep them informed of actions taken to guarantee the quality of electricity service on the territory
incessant requests from the municipal administration
prompted Hydro-Québec to rebuild the power substation serving the locality
Rivière-Beaudette has been making repeated representations to Hydro-Québec.
“If the MRC is able to predict the population growth the region will face in ten years' time
but since the overhaul of the Saint-Polycarpe substation
we'd like to see better control of vegetation on our territory
but in terms of electrical availability and network reliability since the overhaul of the Saint-Polycarpe substation
things are a lot better,” says Mayor Patrick Bousez
who says he's wholeheartedly behind the Municipalité des Coteaux in this matter.
a single power line has served the Alta industrial park in Coteau-du-Lac
pending the opening of a new substation at its heart
whose primary mission will be to supply power to the park.
“I'm confident that when it comes on stream in a few years' time
it will take the load off the Saint-Polycarpe substation
which has already reached its maximum capacity
It won't be a problem once it's up and running,” he adds.
The City of Coteau-du-Lac is confident
Coteau-du-Lac confirms that it will not be taking any steps to request an analysis of the electrical network supplying the town of Coteau-du-Lac
the municipal administration did ask Hydro to maintain the vegetation that comes significantly close to the lines in certain places
but there has been no specific request on this subject
“We are aware that the construction of the new substation in our industrial park will considerably strengthen the Town's power supply,” we wrote by e-mail.
Ville de Saint-Zotique states that it is a forerunner in this field
commissioned a private firm to produce a survey of the canopy in conflict with the hydroelectric network
This report was submitted to Hydro-Québec in the summer of 2023
The Ville de Saint-Zotique has even opened a file with Hydro-Québec for each of the properties affected,” we read.

Amazon denies that its decision to exit Québec was tied to the unionization of its warehouse in Laval
Québec was the only province in Canada with a unionized Amazon workplace
The Conféderation des syndicats nationaux (CSN) filed an application to represent roughly 250 employees at the DXT4 warehouse in Laval
there was no official collective agreement in place
The CSN has been at the bargaining table with Amazon since July
with negotiation meetings scheduled throughout January.
Amazon denies that its decision to pull out of Québec was tied to the unionization
Agrait said that the move follows “a recent review of Québec operations” in the province and that the “decision wasn’t made lightly.” BetaKit reached out and did not receive any additional information.
Earlier this month, CityNews and The Canadian Press reported that at least 30 DXT4 employees were told they were being let go
CSN president Caroline Senneville called the layoffs a “retaliatory measure” on Amazon’s part
but a spokesperson for the e-commerce giant said this claim was false and the workers were hired as seasonal employees with a clear contract end date

the elected officials of Coteau-du-Lac ratified a resolution to reduce the speed limit on Route 201
and tabled a notice of motion to do the same on Chemin Rivière-Delisle South and North.
the sector targeted by the request sent to the Ministry of Transport is located on Route 201
between the railroad tracks and the northern limit of the territory of the City of Coteau-du-Lac.
we sent the same request to the Ministère des Transports
Since this is a tourist sector with a lot of vehicle traffic
we thought it would be a good idea to readdress the situation with the provincial government," explained Mayor Andrée Brosseau.
Coteaulac's elected officials would like to see the speed limit on Route 201
between the entrance to the industrial park and the Rivière Rouge Golf Club
90 km/hour is permitted on this stretch of road under provincial jurisdiction
Due to the high risk of accidents on Route 201 in this sector
the council wishes to maintain the speed limit at 70 km between the railroad tracks and the northern boundary of the territory of the City of Coteau-du-Lac
The purpose of this request is to ensure the safety of motorists who use this road on a daily basis
as stated in the resolution proposed by Patrick Delforge.
Chemin Rivière-Delisle South and North also in the crosshairs of elected officials
The second speed-related subject that attracted attention at the August 8 meeting was the following: Avis de motion et dépôt de projet (RMH 399-2020) visant à réduire la limite de vitesse du chemin la passer de 70 km à 50 km
elected officials would like to see the current speed limit of 70 km reduced to 50 km.District 6 Councillor Patrick Delforge has filed a notice of motion to this effect
I'm concerned that this change could encourage police officers to issue more tickets. Is it possible to ask them to patrol this area more often to avoid speeding?" he asked Mayor Andrée Brosseau
The latter said she would mention it and make the request.
District 5 Councillor Christine Arseneault
said she could make a request to the City of Coteau-du-Lac's sponsoring police officer."He often reports back to us following similar requests
We can ask him to circulate in the area a few times during the day and report back to us on the situation
We've often solved problems this way."
Citizens who drive through or stay in the area and note any problematic situations can contact the Sûreté du Québec station to report it if the danger is immediate
"It's the first thing to do for rapid intervention
if you don't feel safe or you witness a dangerous problem
Don't hesitate," testified District 3 Councillor David-Lee Amos.
Arseneault indicated what to do if the situation is not urgent and a citizen nevertheless wishes to report a problem on municipal territory." You can send an e-mail to the Town
to the attention of the Road Safety Committee
who are members of the committee. We meet about once a month
to find solutions to the problems referred to us."
Since the notice of motion was tabled at the August meeting
by-law RMH 399-2020 relating to traffic could be adopted at the September 12 meeting
The global giant Amazon was quick to launch its operations in the Alta Industrial Park in Coteau-du-Lac
At the opening of the Amazon sorting complex in Coteau-du-Lac
Mayor Andrée Brosseau made the traditional ribbon cutting in the presence of the company’s representatives
and the prefect of the Vaudreuil-Soulanges RCM
Less than 9 months after announcing the establishment of a state-of-the-art sorting center
the American e-commerce company officially inaugurated the 720,000 square foot (660,000 m2) facility
Some 90 employees are already at work at the sorting complex
which will be the first in Canada to integrate the most advanced mobile robotic order management systems from Amazon Robotics
When the YUL9 sorting center has reached its cruising speed
500 to 600 full-time jobs will have been created
“The technology used at the company’s most sophisticated Canadian sorting center here in Coteau-du-Lac will allow Amazon to increase the speed and efficiency of its services to better serve its customers in Eastern Canada
in addition to making the work environment even safer”
The products that will pass through the sorting center
will come from the Amazon distribution center in Lachine
The materials will then make a third stopover in the operating chain
at the delivery center in Laval and eventually in Lachine on Normand Street
This last link is responsible for transporting the package to the customer’s door
The management of Amazon Canada prefers to keep secret the amount of investment required for the establishment of the sorting complex in Coteau-du-Lac
merely indicating that a sum of $ 11 billion has been spent by the company in Canada since 2010

The City of Coteau-du-Lac could very soon be welcoming new residential projects
if we are to believe the comments made by Mayor Andrée Brosseau at the recent municipal council meeting held this Tuesday
Questioned by a citizen about the future of Camping Koa
the mayor revealed a few details on the subject

It is currently being studied by our urban planning department

the developer will have to comply with all our urban planning regulations to see his project come to fruition."
the mayor also gave an update on the terrain Juteau
located behind the Caisse Desjardins."Previously
the land was a scrap yard.We acquired it to decontaminate it and it's now ready for a project

The artist Annick Gauvreau has just made an incredible gesture
the donation of 48 of her works to the Musée de Charlevoix
Gauvreau could not imagine the outcome of her discussions with the management of the Musée de Charlevoix
that it was she who initiated the contact following discussions with the management of another Museum
“I spoke with the Musée de Charlevoix since they specialize in folk art
This is exactly the type of artistic approach that I do
An evaluator from the Museum came to see the works
I replied that all the works that were on the walls were available
He then asked me to make a file of the portfolio that was accessible.”
The donation made by the artist represents several thousand dollars
“All artists want to exhibit their works
I told myself that it gave me free space to create other works
Gauvreau does not know when the Musée de Charlevoix will hold an exhibition with her works
“There will be one and obviously I will be there
the works will go to the reserve of the Musée de Charlevoix and on occasion
there will be some that will be exhibited depending on the exhibitions of the Museum.”
She creates with items that can be found everywhere
she sometimes receives calls from those around her
“People do their house cleaning and they call me to tell me that they have things for me
Folk art includes a wide variety of artistic works
characterized by a mixture of naivety and refinement
cultural tradition and personal innovation
in general traditional art is divided into two categories: cultural art and individual art
or pictorial or decorative designs applied to objects
Artists create them with the intention of interesting ordinary people such as their neighbours
folk art was born out of a desire to make sense of and humanize the daily routine of work and domestic life
The Fondation Rivières has just released an interactive map of wastewater discharges in Quebec
spills are counted in the thousands for 2019
produced in collaboration with the School of Media (UQAM)
was developed for the specific purpose of raising awareness among governments and the population about the quality of river water
municipalities and all organizations concerned about water quality to quickly obtain a portrait of wastewater discharges in their territory
The City of Beauharnois and the municipality of Coteau-du-Lac are categorized as being places with a very high risk of overflow
the City of Beauharnois had nothing less than 901 overflows in 2019
If this statistic may frighten some citizens
it is important to point out that in 2017
the City of Beauharnois was the host of 1,630 spills of wastewater in Lac Saint-Louis
7,163 spills have occurred in this city of 13,374 residents according to 2020 statistics from the Ministry of Municipal Affairs and Housing
the efforts made by the municipal administration appear to be beneficial
The number of spills is 223 for 2019 compared to 324 in 2017
Only the municipalities of Ormstown and Huntingdon were affected
it is important to point out that a large number of residences in the Haut-Saint-Laurent are served by septic tanks
not all municipalities have sewage treatment plants
the time had come to inform the public about the extent of the situation
the issue of water quality and accessibility is of great concern to Quebecers
Executive Director of the Fondation Rivières
wastewater spills are everywhere and every day
People need to know where the 60,000 or so untreated wastewater spills are located each year and what happens in each municipality
The map illustrates the symptom of a worrisome disease and above all
it makes it possible to draw up a list of the municipalities where it is urgent to intervene to close the gaps
Citizens now have the tool they need to demand that their municipalities and the MELCC address the problem.”
The Fondation Rivières released a gloomy portrait on June 1st in which it established that 7 out of 10 municipalities still contaminate rivers
44 organizations subscribed to an open letter addressed to the Premier of Quebec
the Minister of the Environment and the Minister of Municipal Affairs calling for a major clean water project
Sauvé Street will be closed between Daoust and Mercier streets in Les Coteaux
This closure is related to the project to replace and rehabilitate the sewer and water mains on Sauvé street.
Sauvé Street will be closed until October 20
Residents north of rue Daoust will have to detour via rue Delisle or Lippé to take route 201 to Coteau-du-Lac in order to reach autoroute 20
Road users wishing to reach the north of the municipality will also have to take the detour via Coteau-du-Lac
An access road will be built to allow access to rue Daoust and the train station

took advantage of the store's official opening to make a donation to the Moisson Sud-Ouest food bank
Legault hopes this will be the first of many collaborations
"The Maxi banner aims to be 0 waste by 2030
Moisson Sud-Ouest will be our food aid partner
this means that the regional food bank will be the beneficiary of our "guignolées" or collections of donations and money that we organize each year
If some of our products have passed their expiration date
we will send them to this organization for redistribution"
a cheque for $2,500 was presented to Moisson Sud-Ouest to support its mission
In addition to being proactive in environmental matters
notably by opting to compost expired products
Maxi also applies the Flashfood initiative in its stores
"We reduce the price of foods such as meat
that are approaching their expiration date
It's a good way of reducing food waste" he concludes.
12-year-old Coteau-du-Lac resident Justin Lafleurr flew to Glasgow
he was one of 109 BMX enthusiasts taking part in the BMX World Championships.
Néomédia spoke to the young man who will be returning to school next week
I ended up lower in the rankings than I'd originally aimed for
I made a small mistake in the round of 16 and got passed by two other riders
I didn't qualify for the quarter-finals
I finished in 54th place out of 109 runners," sums up the man who was accompanied by his parents Isabelle and Daniel
A total of 47 riders from Canada took part in this international competition
which brought together the best BMX athletes in the world
"It's not as popular with Canadians as field hockey or other sports we're known for
like cycling," he adds on the other end of the phone
Accustomed to training and racing most of the time on the Coteau-du-Lac BMX track
Justin readily admits that the Glasgow track is the best he's ridden so far
My legs were really tired at the end of the races
as there were a lot of competitors taking part
we had a break of about 45 minutes between each race
So we could rest and recuperate before getting out on the course again."
Justin was able to make one or two runs in the days leading up to the competition to familiarize himself with the course
Did the time difference make itself felt during the competition
We stayed in the region for a few days afterwards to do some sightseeing
That's when the fatigue and the impact of jet lag were felt."
Despite the many hours of flying and the time difference
Justin takes a positive view of his experience
both about the region over there and during the competition
The urban area over there is a lot like here
The food is good there and the favorite dish is fish and chips
but we saw it go by (laughs)," he confides
"It was a great experience and it's motivating me to return to the World Championships
It's a lot closer if I take part," he concludes
Although Justin will be entering Secondary 1 on Thursday
he'll be taking part in a regional competition on the Coteau-du-Lac track
he'll be racing for the last time this season at the same venue

Alta Industrial and Broccolini are teaming up to develop the Alta Industrial Park in Coteau-du-Lac
which can now offer over 17 million square feet to companies seeking to set up their operations in the greater Montreal area
Both parties are pleased with the partnership and say it is a good fit for the new phase of development
“We can bring our expertise of the ‘one stop shop’ of construction development
property management networking and help them develop the property more rapidly and thus everyone can come out a winner,” explained Roger Plamondon
president of real estate development and acquisitions at Broccolini
The company has been involved in the construction of distribution centres for Canadian Tire in Quebec and Ontario
We have built a lot of distribution centres
so we are very confident that we will be able to entice people to come and implement their distribution centres on that site,” said Plamondon
We acted as the general contractor for Canadian Tire’s distribution centre here in Quebec and they located in Coteau-du-Lac on the Alta property
we started talking a little more with each other and came to the conclusion that this might be a very good marriage.”
From 1989 to 2008 Alta developed the first phase
Canadian Tire bought 7.3 million square feet for its distribution centre
Alta asked permission to dezone 17.5 million square feet after giving away 4.5 million square feet for conservation and compensation of wetlands
adding it took nine years of court battles to get the land dezoned and another year to get the proper documents to start development
Six million square feet of building space will be offered in the 17.5 million square feet of land
Alta still owns another 4.5 million square feet of land for future development adjacent to the site
“It’s not easy to get land rezoned anywhere,” said Latreille
“The land that we have now is ready to welcome industries
We are looking at a lot of logistics people or people who require distribution centres.”
Latreille said the partnership with Broccolini will enable the company to ramp up the development of the park quickly
which is something that appeals to many companies
“Broccolini is a major player and we wanted to have a good strong company to partner with to get it to a new stage,” said Latreille
also boasts a number of benefits including that it is well situated in terms of access to markets in Quebec
It is located in proximity to major highways in the area and Quebec’s main economic corridor
It also has a direct link to the main track of the Canadian National Railway
Infrastructure is already in place as well
there is a massive raw water supply to the site that is pumping directly out of the St
which is very rare in an industrial park.”
the developers are working with interested companies looking to set up shop in the area
“We hope in spring or summer 2019 we will announce the start of development there,” said Latreille

A woman is in critical condition after the car she was driving was hit by a Via Rail train at a farmer’s crossing outside Montreal near Dorval on Monday morning
Train number 61 that left Montreal on its way to Toronto at 6:50 a.m
told CityNews the 35-year-old woman sustained heavy injuries and there is “fear for her life.”
CityNews web editor Natasha O’Neill aboard the train said she felt the moment of impact
“I was looking out the window at a small rural road when the train sounded its horn multiple times very loudly
it wasn’t overly hard but it was clear we hit something since I saw debris fly past my window,” she said
You don’t think a normal route train will hit something
but it did … we’re getting some information in drips but it’s clear we will be here a while.”
Another passenger said most people were asleep on the train and were jolted awake by the collision
“You heard this huge bump and the train shook
parts flew by the window and the train came to a stop,” said Chris Pang
who was returning to Toronto after visiting family in Montreal over the long weekend
An emergency exit window between the first and second train car was shattered and emergency crews were seen repairing loose panels in the roof of the train cars that were involved in the impact
An announcement on the train informed passengers that a car had been hit and there would be a minimum two-hour delay
Via Rail trains 63 and 33 were also similarly delayed

This is what VIVA MÉDIA first learned
Développement Vaudreuil Soulanges (DEV) confirms that it has received information according to which Canadian Tire Corporation (CCT) is expanding its distribution center
which currently totals 1.5 million square feet in the Alta Industrial Park in Coteau-du-Lac
the expansion will be more than 300,000 square feet and a capacity doubled in terms of units
there is reason to be proud of the enthusiasm of large-scale distribution companies for the land available in the various industrial parks of Vaudreuil-Soulanges
we are waiting for the Canadian Tire Corporation to make the official announcement”
«FedEx is also the largest employer in Vaudreuil Soulanges with its 1,200 employees,» explains Mrs
Quebec and the Maritimes and recently received the «Best Stations Award»
a prestigious honor for standing out among 130 distribution centers and warehouses located across North America.”
Vaudreuil-Soulanges really has the wind in its sails
The residential sector has grown by far greater than the rest of Quebec
it is the industrial sector that is also coveted
“This interest in Vaudreuil-Soulanges is reflected in the volume of requests for information on available land in recent years
Demand from players in the wholesale and logistics industry is notable due to the rise of e-commerce and transformations in supply chains
Its positioning in the Ontario-Quebec trade corridor and the intersection of three highways make Vaudreuil Soulanges a privileged place
The Alta Industrial Park is one of the few in Greater Montreal where there is large-scale land ready for development and dedicated to logistics activities.”
residential Rue Richer in Les Coteaux was invaded by fire trucks at around 9:15 this morning
when a fire broke out on the balcony of one of the six apartments in an apartment building at civic address 123
flames and smoke were clearly visible on the outside balcony
when the first firefighters arrived on the scene earlier this morning
A swift attack by firefighters from the Coteau-du-Lac/Les Coteaux brigade and their colleagues from Salaberry-de-Valleyfield
Saint-Polycarpe and finally Saint-Zotique limited the damage to the affected apartment and restricted the risk of it spreading
The building's six apartments were evacuated of all occupants
although a great deal of smoke has spread throughout the building
the majority of occupants will no doubt be able to return to their homes following the intervention
but one of the occupants suffered a nervous shock at the scale of the scene.

I'm really looking forward to the experience," he confided on the other end of the phone
What will the athlete be doing in the next few days
"The competition officially starts this Sunday
the next few days will be spent getting to know the track and taming it
I've done some video visualization of the track in the last few days
but it's not comparable to Coteau-du-Lac
The big slopes on this one are equivalent to the medium slopes on the Glasgow track
The calibre of the competition will be extremely high
The track is forbidden to competitors under eight years of age"
A social fundraising campaign organized by Justin's family and friends helped defray the cost of his plane ticket
"We warmly thank all donors," said his mother Isabelle.
the young man will be in Scotland from August 3 to 13
he will attempt to deliver the best performance of his career on the big stage in front of parents and grandparents
he'll take advantage of some time off with his loved ones to do some sightseeing
There are six hours more in Scotland than here
People who want to will still be able to follow my performances on social networks thanks to my mother
The UCI 2023- BMX Racing World Cycling Championship website will also be streaming them live at: https://fr.uci.org/competition-hub/championnats-du-monde-de-cyclisme-uci-2023-bmx-racing
What are Justin's expectations of this important competition
"I don't necessarily want to finish on the podium
But reaching the final would almost be a miracle
given the level of competition of the athletes present
The event will bring together the best in the world"
If he takes the third or second step on the podium
Justin Lafleur will return home with a medal around his neck
At the time of Neomedia's conversation with the young man
he admitted he wasn't nervous about the challenge ahead
"I'll probably feel a bit of stress during the qualifying rounds," he concluded
