Though he isn’t directly involved in the show night-on-night
Delson has been instrumental in what the band delivers on the road
Linkin Park’s return to the studio and stage was one of the biggest stories of 2024
The nu-metal giants had been on hiatus since vocalist Chester Bennington’s death in 2017
and their much-craved reformation was marked by some notable personnel changes
Vocalist Emily Armstrong was recruited to front the band, and long-time guitarist Brad Delson announced he would be stepping away from touring duties
with Alex Feder confirmed as his on-stage replacement
Delson has added more context behind the decision
and discussed whether he would ever return to the stage at some point down the line
“Alex is just so good-looking that the world could not resist him,” Delson laughs of the switch
It’s a self-fulfilling prophecy.”
seven years out of the limelight gave Delson chance to re-evaluate his professional life
having less time active over the last however many years gave us each a great opportunity to think qualitatively about the band
he’s called Feder “an amazing musician and a strong live player”
with the band’s return some aspects were always going to change
‘Let's go back to what we were doing.’ It was like
‘Let's take what we've learned in the time off to approach our roles with greater self-awareness and insight,’” he expands
That’s what energizes me personality-wise
“That’s why I decided to focus my energy on that area and have Alex as my world-traveler doppelganger
I think he brings a lot to the show.”
extends far beyond hitting the record button
“I'm really proud of the show,” he says
I put a lot of my creative love into the show
I’ve always been obsessed with the setlist
I worked really hard on the current show; that’s no different than the past.”
Delson isn’t ruling out a return to the stage: “You never know

Brad Delson acknowledges it’s a bit strange to see someone else onstage playing guitar for Linkin Park these days
it’s a different experience," Delson — who’s bowed out of the world tour for the band’s new album
’cause I never got to see the show ever
If you’re onstage you don’t really get to see what’s going on
"I remember being at the Forum and just watching it,” he says
referring to the band’s September 11 show in Inglewood
“We put a lot of love into the creative of the show
I helped design the set list and the whole flow of the show
And Delson — who co-founded Linkin Park as Xero during 1996 with high school friends Mike Shinoda and Rob Bourdon — is quick to note that Alex Feder
the former XYZ Affair guitarist who’s filling in for him onstage
Delson’s decision not to tour caught fans off-guard and was recently described by Shinoda on the Zach Sang Show as "kind of a mental health thing… He doesn’t love the touring and the live show lifestyle." For his part
and I feel like that’s where I’m most energized and I really thrive and I contribute the most
clear decisions and wanting to bring great energy to whatever I’m working on." He also gained some clarity during the seven years Linkin Park were off the road and intermittently active with archival projects following the 2017 suicide of vocalist Chester Bennington
"The band got successful when we were very young
and we kind of went on this rocket ship for 20 years," Delson reflects
"In the time that we’ve had off while we haven’t been putting out new stuff
I think everyone’s had the space and fresh eyes to think about what’s energizing
And I think for all of us the decisions to do what we’re doing come from a place of opting in as opposed to having it just be habitual
That’s also why everything sounds so fresh and inspired."
And it undoubtedly explains why From Zero has become a global smash hit
debuting at number one on charts in 10 countries and number two on the Billboard 200
the highest debut for a rock album this year
And there’s been a lot of change in Linkin Park as the group has re-emerged this year
Drummer Bourdon opted out of the reunion entirely
who’d worked with Shinoda previously
Also new to the band is vocalist Emily Armstrong from Dead Sara
another Shinoda discovery and someone who’s presence Delson credits with galvanizing him
bassist Dave "Phoenix" Farrell and programmer Joe Hahn to kick Linkin Park back into active gear as the sessions got underway at EastWest Studios in Hollywoods
I’m happy to just come here every day
I want to be around what’s happening.’ The amazing thing about this album was everything just kind of fell into place
Let’s do more of it.’ It was the desire to just hang out together
Delson describes crafting the 11 tracks on From Zero — written by Linkin Park with some help from others
Bea Miller— as like riding a proverbial bike as the band comfortably resumed its organic creation process based on trial and error
frank discussion and openness to the variety of opinions
"When I’m in the studio with the guitar
I’m not attached to it," explains Delson
adding that he actually plays piano at home more than guitar
If I feel like a song is better without guitar
I’m the first one to say ’Can we mute it?’ And if someone else plays a dope guitar part
if someone’s temped to do something and I feel like it’s not as interesting as it could be
’I’d like to rewrite that’ or whatever
Some of these songs had guitar in them when I first started messing with them; some of that guitar is still there and some of that guitar got redone in the studio
Our process is to support what’s working
So if the guitar wasn’t super compelling
we’d just mute it and then write new guitar parts
There was a lot of experimenting going on."
As a case in point Delson says the track "Cut the Bridge" had "a lot of guitar that had been put into the earliest version" that didn’t sound right as the song was being developed
"I think Mike and I wrote new riffs for that for two or three days straight and wound up throwing all of those in the trash and going for this heavily effected version of something we had in the verse
was another From Zero song that "got rewritten multiple times until
kind of in the last troughs of the album process
was the first single and opening track "The Emptiness Machine." "We really honed all the words to that; that was a really important part of the song
then ultimately finding the right placement in the song for Mike’s voice and Emily’s voice," Delson recalls
"Their range is so different...and it had to be in a key that worked for both their voices
If we lowered it too much it would lose power when Mike was singing it
’cause she is singing an octave over it
They’re both pushing the boundaries of their natural range in that song; that’s one reason it feels like a rocket ship that’s about to come apart."
The part and the feel of the playing is the most important thing; you’re just flipping through presets and it’s what catches the ear in terms of what marries organically to the part
Usually we’ll write the part first and just toggle between sounds until we’re like
Delson says that what he finds most stimulating about From Zero
is that it even as a new version of Linkin Park it hews back to the band’s earliest days
even before it was Linkin Park and had a label deal
"We weren’t afraid to reach into the more signature bag of tools on this record," he explains
"I think on some previous records it was always ’Innovate
Innovate!,’ always wanting to challenge ourselves to go somewhere new
I think because we had new elements” — i.e
band members — “already as part of the palette we didn’t hold back in terms of using things maybe that we used early on
"There was an aesthetic or vibe of some of our earliest demos
There were some songs on those very early demos that had a very clear aesthetic
You hear some of that on [2000’s] Hybrid Theory
I love how eclectic our discography is; that’s a super salient part of our identity as musicians
I think we felt more liberated to use any of the tools we had previously played around with before
more like a lack of self-consciousness than a conscious decision to go somewhere specifically."
"The Emptiness Machine" hit number one on the Billboard Mainstream Rock Airplay and Alternative Airplay charts in September
followed by "Heavy Is the Crown," "Over Each Other" and "Two Faced." After playing a handful of shows around the world in advance of the album’s release Linkin Park has announced an extensive 2025 road trek
starting January 31 in Mexico City and also traveling around the globe in arenas as well as festival appearances at Sick New World in Las Vegas
And while Delson says "anything’s possible" when asked if he might hop onstage with the band at some point — or resume touring — it sounds more likely that he’ll be enjoying the festivities from afar
"I would just say I’m having a lot of fun right now working on all the creative with my bandmates," Delson says
"It’s been a lot of fun and really rewarding
I’m excited people are finally getting to hear this record
and the streaming and everything is just crazy
It’s definitely up and running.”

LINKIN PARK guitarist Brad Delson has explained his absence from the band's upcoming reunion tour.
On Thursday (September 5),LINKIN PARK held a one-hour global livestream of a concert in Los Angeles showcasing new singer Emily Armstrong and drummer Colin Brittain, who will join returning members Mike Shinoda, Delson, Dave "Phoenix" Farrell and Joe Hahn in the band's new lineup. Guitarist Alex Feder was filling in for Delson for the night.
Earlier today, Delson released the following statement via social media: "Beyond excited to share this new chapter with the world.
"Bringing our vision to life is the culmination of many twists and turns, as we continue our unique journey together as a band. We couldn't do it without a belief in what is possible, even when things seem impossible; without the ability to listen, particularly when emotions run deep; and without the support and love of everyone around us. Thank you thank you thank you.
"In awe of @emilyarmstrong and @colinbrittain for their talent, passion, and partnership. Deep gratitude to all my bandmates for their humility, hard work, and friendship.
"I've always felt deeply connected to and proud of our live performances. Over the years I've realized I thrive most when I'm actively working with my bandmates behind the scenes — in the studio, collaborating on our new music, and helping build our live show.
"I am so proud of everything we continue to create together. While I will not be performing on tour in this new chapter, I am super excited to introduce Alex — my handsome deputy on the road. Alex is a world-class musician, a kind and thoughtful friend, and we are truly fortunate he'll be contributing his unique talent to our LP universe.
"Fresh eyes, honest appreciation, and devoted teamwork have brought us to this special moment. The privilege of sharing our creativity with you. Thank you for joining us on the journey."
LINKIN PARK also released a new single, "The Emptiness Machine", and announced an upcoming album "From Zero", which will arrive on November 15 via Warner. It will mark LINKIN PARK's first full-length effort since 2017's "One More Light", which was the last LINKIN PARK album before the death of lead vocalist Chester Bennington.
LINKIN PARK's global livestream featured performances of "The Emptiness Machine" as well as the LP hits "Somewhere I Belong", "Numb", "Faint", "Bleed It Out", "One Step Closer", "What I've Done" and "In The End".
Later this month, LINKIN PARK will embark on a six-date arena tour, making stops in Los Angeles, New York, Hamburg, London, Seoul and Bogota.
Pre-sale tickets for the "From Zero" tour will be available for the LP Underground fan club members starting on September 6. The general sale will start on September 7.
In an interview with Billboard about LINKIN PARK's comeback, Shinoda explained that drummer Rob Bourdon— who had founded the band with Mike and Brad — had decided to exit LP.
According to a press release, Shinoda, Delson, Farrell and Hahn "quietly began meeting up again in recent years" and "rather than 'trying to restart the band,'" they worked with numerous musicians and "found a special kinship with Armstong and Brittain."
"The Emptiness Machine" is said to "channel the DNA of LINKIN PARK." Shinoda said the band feels "really empowered with this new lineup and the vibrant and energized new music we've made together," adding that they are "weaving together the sonic touchpoints we've been known for and still exploring new ones."

Linkin Park guitarist Brad Delson has shed light on why he quit playing live with the band
The guitarist played in the band for classic albums like 2000’s ‘Hybrid Theory’

as well as later albums including ‘A Thousand Suns’ (2010)
‘The Hunting Party’ (2014) and ‘One More Light’ (2017)
The record marked the first from Linkin Park in seven years, and the first since the tragic death of frontman Chester Bennington
Now, in a new interview with Guitar World, the longtime member shed light on the reasons why he is sitting out of the upcoming 2025 tour
he recalled that he simply noticed that it was mainly the time in the studio which allowed him to “thrive”

Mike Shinoda and Emily Armstrong of Linkin Park perform during the ‘From Zero World Tour’ in 2024
She would go on to issue a statement to “to clear the air”, while Mike Shinoda continually insisted their reunion tour is “not about erasing the past“
Back in November, Mike Shinoda spoke about Delson’s decison to not take part in the live shows promoting ‘From Zero’, explaining that it was, in part, due to mental health reasons
but he’s realised that … it’s kind of a mental health thing,” he said on the Zach Sang Show
“He doesn’t love the touring and the live show lifestyle
but he’s not playing live,” he added
“He found a guy named Alex who’s spectacular
a really good guitarist and they get along great
and Brad chose Alex to play his parts live.”
As well as new guitarist Feder, drummer Colin Brittain has joined the band too, following the departure of founding member Rob Bourdon
In a separate interview, Shinoda addressed Bourdon’s stepping back from the line-up. “He wanted to put some distance between himself and the band
And we understood that — it was already apparent,” he recalled
“He was starting to just show up less
and I know the fans noticed it too… So for me
and obviously everybody wishes him the best.”
Following the changes to the group, founding member Shinoda also reflected on the new “culture” of Linkin Park, saying it feels like the “best we’ve had”.

Linkin Park guitarist Brad Delson has confirmed that he won’t be partaking in the relaunched band’s upcoming touring plans. During a livestreamed concert reveal of Linkin Park‘s new lineup held yesterday
with guitarist Alex Feder (Still A Great Night) performing in his place
Feder‘s new role is a bit more involved than that just that one show
While Delson will remain active with the band creatively
and is credited as a songwriter and musician on their new material and forthcoming album “From Zero“
it seems that Feder will be taking over for him at the band’s live shows going forward
In a statement issued via his Instagram today
Delson outlined his reduced role in the diamond-certified band
“Beyond excited to share this new chapter with the world
Bringing our vision to life is the culmination of many twists and turns
We couldn’t do it without a belief in what is possible
In awe of @emilyarmstrong and @colinbrittain for their talent
I’ve always felt deeply connected to and proud of our live performances

I am so proud of everything we continue to create together
I am super excited to introduce Alex—my handsome deputy on the road
and we are truly fortunate he’ll be contributing his unique talent to our LP universe
The group debuted their first new single, “The Emptiness Machine“, with their new roster yesterday, alongside announcing a November 15th release date for “From Zero“. The following six dates were also confirmed for their world comeback tour:
"These bands are way too popular to be in arrears."
"Guess you'll have to go Steal This Album if you want to hear it now.."
Touring can be a strain on any artist’s mental health, and Linkin Park guitarist Brad Delson has found that to be true
That’s why he’s sitting out of the band’s comeback shows
The band returned in September for the first time since the death of co-vocalist Chester Bennington in 2017 with news of a new album, From Zero, touring plans and a revamped line-up. Emily Armstrong of Dead Sara joined as a vocalist, as did Colin Brittain on drums, replacing longtime drummer Rob Bourdon.
Delson contributed to From Zero, but hasn’t been part of the band’s live shows. The live guitar position has instead been filled by Alex Feder.
“In case anybody doesn’t understand the dynamic, Brad is our guitarist. He’s in the band, but he’s realized that … it’s kind of a mental health thing,” Shinoda explains on the Zach Sang Show.
“He doesn’t love the touring and the live show lifestyle, and so he is our guitarist, but he’s not playing live. He found a guy named Alex who’s spectacular, a really good guitarist and they get along great, and Brad chose Alex to play his parts live.”
Shinoda adds that Brittain was also a contender to take over as live guitarist before he ended up as the drummer. “But at the time, we hadn’t met Alex, and so we asked Colin. I was, like, ‘Brad needs somebody to play guitar, and we need a drummer. You do both equally well. What would you wanna do?’ And he was just like a kid in a candy store. I think he said, ‘I can’t believe what you’re asking me right now.’ He was so excited.”
He continues: “I just love working with Colin. I met him in sessions and then was bringing him in to help with writing and production. And then eventually we were, like, ‘Hey, dude, it turns out we need somebody to play drums.’ I know that’s his primary instrument. So I was, like, ‘Is that something you would wanna do? It would mean stepping away from your production career.’”

Linkin Park guitarist Brad Delson has confirmed that while he worked on the band's new music
he will not be taking part in their upcoming reunion tour dates
The guitarist was conspicuously missing from Thursday's (Sept. 5) global livestream event as the band took the stage with Mike Shinoda noting that Alex Feder was filling in for Delson
Feder will reportedly be the band's new touring guitarist
In his statement, Delson shared his thanks for the support of everyone involved, expressed his awe of the band's new additions Emily Armstrong and Colin Brittain and then offered his explanation as to why he wouldn't be part of the run
He also confirmed Feder's continued involvement beyond the recent performance
"I’ve always felt deeply connected to and proud of our live performances

Linkin Park guitarist Brad Delson has confirmed that while he worked on the band's new music
The guitarist was conspicuously missing from Thursday's (Sept. 5) global livestream event as the band took the stage with Mike Shinoda noting that Alex Feder was filling in for Delson
In his statement, Delson shared his thanks for the support of everyone involved, expressed his awe of the band's new additions Emily Armstrong and Colin Brittain and then offered his explanation as to why he wouldn't be part of the run

The full statement is shared below:
Beyond excited to share this new chapter with the world.
Bringing our vision to life is the culmination of many twists and turns, as we continue our unique journey together as a band. We couldn’t do it without a belief in what is possible, even when things seem impossible; without the ability to listen, particularly when emotions run deep; and without the support and love of everyone around us. Thank you thank you thank you.
In awe of @emilyarmstrong and @colinbrittain for their talent, passion, and partnership. Deep gratitude to all my bandmates for their humility, hard work, and friendship.
I’ve always felt deeply connected to and proud of our live performances. Over the years I’ve realized I thrive most when I’m actively working with my bandmates behind the scenes––in the studio, collaborating on our new music, and helping build our live show.
I am so proud of everything we continue to create together. While I will not be performing on tour in this new chapter, I am super excited to introduce Alex—my handsome deputy on the road. Alex is a world-class musician, a kind and thoughtful friend, and we are truly fortunate he’ll be contributing his unique talent to our LP universe.
Fresh eyes, honest appreciation, and devoted teamwork have brought us to this special moment. The privilege of sharing our creativity with you. Thank you for joining us on the journey.

The co-founding guitarist has decided to focus on the studio side of the band
working with new vocalist Emily Armstrong’s energy
and balancing the PRS and Fender sounds that defined the nu-metal institution’s sound
Classic Linkin Park albums Hybrid Theory (2000)
Meteora (2003) and Minutes to Midnight (2007) prove that Brad Delson was born to crush skulls
if I went on a trip I had to bring my guitar with me
“I’d play for hours every single day.”
His nu-metal-meets-hip-hop-meets-alt-rock assault also powered Linkin Park’s A Thousand Suns (2010)
The Hunting Party (2014) and One More Light (2017)
But the band fell silent in July of that year in the wake of vocalist Chester Bennington’s death
Most fans assumed the band would not return
but in September 2024 a rebooted version performed a livestreamed concert with new vocalist Emily Armstrong
and the announcement of a world tour supporting From Zero
Initial reaction was mixed – but it didn’t stop From Zero hitting No
Delson says he and his bandmates felt a connection with Armstrong from the jump
“She has a kind of energy that feels simpatico with the creativity that moves and drives us,” he explains
“Everything just fell into place very naturally
That’s essential to the creative process.”
‘Is this something that we love and can’t stop listening to?’ The impulse is to create some sound or idea that doesn’t yet exist and share it
If songs start sounding too repetitive I’ll lose interest
I want to experience an album three-dimensionally.”
Despite his integral role in recording the album
selecting veteran guitarist Alex Feder as his “world-traveler doppelganger.” And he knows he’s sent Linkin Park on their way with fiery new weaponry in their audio arsenal
But it’s performing in a way that doesn’t seem possible for a rock record now
It’s an amazing time to celebrate and be grateful.”
Were you taken aback by the success of From Zero after being away for seven years
“The hard thing about putting your heart and soul into making music
is that you never know how it's going to be received
In the studio I try to block out any sense of expectation
and focus on making something we’re proud of that feels honest
So when you release the work into the world
you’re never sure how it’s going to resonate.”
How do you approach the creative process as a guitarist
“Guitar has always been my main instrument
but I play a lot of piano now because it’s more unfamiliar to me
but I think about the songs from the point of view of a songwriter – I don't think about it as a guitar player
“The vocals really drive the creative process
we start with the track – that was the Hybrid Theory
The way Rick Rubin trained us was to get to the vocal as quickly as possible
“Then we move back and forth fluidly in those directions
Having that vocal talent between Mike Shinoda and Emily – and their interplay – is essential.”
What makes Emily the right person for Linkin Park
“The chemistry: there’s something about her voice and her energy that just feels like Linkin Park energy
The nice thing about our two vocalists is that they’re each really dynamic
Part of the band’s identity is exploring the space between genres and juxtaposition
If you don’t have vocalists who can cover every genre
the band’s raison d’etre would be stymied
“We’ve always had an embarrassment of riches in terms of the versatility of our vocal talent
You really hear on this album – each song is different; even though it’s like one complete thought
each song is distinct from the other and takes you on a different journey.”
You chose Alex Feder as your touring replacement
“Alex is just so good-looking that the world could not resist him
He’s an amazing musician and a strong live player
I think he brings a lot to the show – and I’m really proud of the show
I worked really hard on it; that’s no different than the past.”
What went into your decision to stop touring
the last however many years gave us the opportunity to really think qualitatively about the band – what energizes us
‘Let’s go back to what we were doing.’ It was
‘Let’s take what we’ve learned to approach our roles with greater self-awareness and insight.’ I really thrive in the studio
That’s why I decided to focus my energy on that area and bring Alex in.”
Ben Young – who is super-smart and really helped me build out my whole rig – graciously rejoined our team
Ben has all the knowledge of everything that he and I built together
There were a handful of shows in the past when I was sick or couldn’t make a show
We gave ourselves permission to use identifiable elements of our sound from the past that we’d moved away from
“In terms of getting Alex up to speed
He and I went back and forth to make sure the feel was right
even if they’re not the most technical
there’s a feel that’s unique to my playing
“Mike and I have been collecting gear like guitars
He’s got a great setup at his studio
We’ve worked with an engineer named Ethan Mates for a really long time; Ethan helped set us up to succeed longterm
We have a really great shorthand of going back and forth on tones
“For me – because I’m a metalhead and I listened to every seminal rock record 1,000 times when I was growing up – guitar tone is very specific
I feel subtleties in tone really say a lot
That’s important to me and Mike when recording guitars.”
“I have an orange Fender Strat that was made in the Custom Shop – it’s my favorite guitar
and the Fender is more of our Minutes to Midnight and beyond sound
“The PRS really defines Hybrid Theory and Meteora
With From Zero we gave ourselves permission to use iconic or identifiable elements of our sound that we loved from the past but that we’d moved away from to experiment
From Zero was a homecoming and a kind of unlocking of all the tools in our tool chest
Rather than trying to reinvent – though there are moments of reinvention – it was a chance to rediscover our favorite tones and guitars
Which From Zero track best represents where you’re currently at as a guitar player
“I think Two Faced is really fun to play
It has the nuances of a classic Linkin Park or even before we were called Linkin Park – when we were called Hybrid Theory
I don’t know if Two Faced represents me in the present
“I tried to play it at double-time speed when we made the video
I love how the video turned out; it really captured the incredible energy
I felt like Emily just went off and was unbridled
and they represent the different facets of where the band is at today
I can’t even believe we were able to keep it a secret
Casualty feels like a bullseye to me in terms of energetically going hard and taking the training wheels off
It just feels full throttle – I love it.”
“It’s been an incredibly intense year
We worked on this stuff for a while – we were full speed ahead but we had to keep everything a secret
Even my closest friends didn’t know what we were doing
I’d just tell them I was busy all the time
“I can’t even believe we were able to keep it a secret
The people in our camp… I guess it’s just a respect level of being so excited about what we were building that no-one spilled the beans
“We were working really hard; to have it out now
I’m just really in the present moment
appreciating what we’ve been able to accomplish
Things don’t always come together this elegantly.”
Do you ever see yourself getting back on the road
“You never know… I don’t have a crystal ball – I can’t definitely say!”

Linkin Park‘s guitarist Brad Delson has announced he won’t be joining the band on their upcoming world tour
Earlier this week, Linkin Park announced their comeback through a livestream event
where they revealed they’d added two new members to the lineup: vocalist Emily Armstrong
In a chat with Billboard regarding their comeback, Mike Shinoda noted that drummer Rob Bourdon, one of the band’s founding members, had decided to depart the band.
Now, founding guitarist Brad Delson has shared that he also won’t be joining the band on their upcoming world tour, but will continue to work with them on a behind-the-scenes basis, including participating in the creation of new music.
In a statement posted to Instagram last night (September 6), Delson thanked fans for their “support and love”, and shared that he was “in awe of” new members Armstrong and Brittain “for their talent, passion, and partnership”.
“I’ve always felt deeply connected to and proud of our live performances. Over the years I’ve realized I thrive most when I’m actively working with my bandmates behind the scenes––in the studio, collaborating on our new music, and helping build our live show,” he said.
Delson also revealed that guitarist Alex Feder, who joined Linkin Park during this week’s livestream event, would be assuming his role in the band’s future live performances.
“I am so proud of everything we continue to create together. While I will not be performing on tour in this new chapter, I am super excited to introduce Alex—my handsome deputy on the road. Alex is a world-class musician, a kind and thoughtful friend, and we are truly fortunate he’ll be contributing his unique talent to our LP universe.

Two of the three bonus tracks have been released off Linkin Park's upcoming deluxe edition of From Zero
In addition to new vocalist Emily Armstrong
the reformed Linkin Park has two other fresh faces: drummer Colin Brittain and touring guitarist Alex Feder
who joined the band’s live lineup after Brad Delson announced he would not be joining LP on the road
Delson still remains part of Linkin Park, though, and played on their comeback album, From Zero. Speaking with Guitar World, Delson elaborates on his decision to step away from the live stage.
“For everyone, it wasn’t like, ‘Let’s go back to what we were doing,'” Delson says of LP ending their seven-year hiatus following the 2017 death of frontman Chester Bennington. “It was like, ‘Let’s take what we’ve learned in the time off to approach our roles with greater self-awareness and insight.’ I really thrive in the studio. I love making new things. That’s what energizes me personality-wise.”
“That’s why I decided to focus my energy on that area and have Alex as my world-traveler doppelganger,” he continues. “I think he brings a lot to the show.”
Delson adds that he’s contributed to the feel of Linkin Park’s live show, even if he’s not playing in it.
“I’m really proud of the show,” Delson says. “Even though I’m not onstage, I put a lot of my creative love into the show. I’ve always been obsessed with the setlist, the concept of the show, and how it flows. I worked really hard on the current show; that’s no different than the past.”
After playing a number of one-off shows in 2024, Linkin Park will launch a full world tour in support of From Zero in 2025. As for whether Delson may return to the live lineup, he says, “You never know.”
“I don’t have a crystal ball,” he adds. “I can’t definitely say.”

"He doesn't love the touring and the live show lifestyle"
Linkin Park‘s Mike Shinoda has spoken more about the band’s recent line-up changes and how they came together, including the reasons for guitarist Brad Delson’s absence from live shows.
The band announced their comeback in September with a livestream event, where they revealed the addition of Emily Armstrong (formerly of Dead Sara) as their new co-vocalist. Drummer Colin Brittain joined the band too, following the departure of founding member Rob Bourdon
Shinoda has given more of an insight into why Delson is sitting out of live shows
“In case anybody doesn’t understand the dynamic
but he’s realized that … it’s kind of a mental health thing,” he said on the Zach Sang Show
“He doesn’t love the touring and the live show lifestyle
He found a guy named Alex who’s spectacular
What would you wanna do?’ And he was just like a kid in a candy store
‘I can’t believe what you’re asking me right now.’ He was so excited.”
He continued: “I just love working with Colin
it turns out we need somebody to play drums.’ I know that’s his primary instrument
‘Is that something you would wanna do
It would mean stepping away from your production career.'”
Shinoda previously said that the new line-up has “easily the best culture we’ve ever had”
but especially those of us that have the most history together
it’s easily the best culture we’ve had,” he began on the From Zero podcast
“I’m not saying that as a knock on the old line-up
I’m saying that specifically about the growth of Brad and Joe [Hahn] and Dave [Farrell] and me
Everybody is in a really good place and part of that is maybe the gratitude of being able to do it again,” he added
“What’s your favourite thing to do in the world
And then living in that for a while and then coming back later and being like
You can have it back.’ That’s a fucking crazy feeling.”
In other news, earlier this week Linkin Park announced details of a massive world tour for 2025
which includes a stop at London’s Wembley Stadium
The shows come as an extension of the ongoing ‘From Zero’ tour and will commence at the beginning of next year
hitting stadiums and arenas across North America
taking place at London’s Wembley Stadium on June 28
and other European dates include stops in Paris
Tickets for US shows will go on sale next Thursday (November 21) at 12pm local time

In September, Linkin Park came back with a vengeance
After 7 years of silence in the aftermath of frontman Chester Bennington’s death
the alt metal juggernauts returned with new music and a new frontwoman
A bulk of the band also rejoined the ranks
while Delson played a pivotal role on Linkin Park’s chart-topping comeback record
he thrives in the studio – so he’s more than happy to hand the live duties over to his “world-traveler doppelganger,” live guitarist Alex Feder
“The last however many years gave us the opportunity to really think qualitatively about the band,” he explains to Guitar World
‘Let’s go back to what we were doing’,” he says
“Alex is just so good-looking that the world could not resist him!” he jokes
Feder has been thoroughly trained by Delson
so fans can rest assured and know Linkin Park’s tunes are in safe hands
“He and I went back and forth to make sure the feel was right
“It’s just a great friendship,” he continues
“He’s an amazing musician and a strong live player
Co-vocalist and rapper Mike Shinoda has also explained Delson’s decision to avoid touring in the past. “He’s in the band, but he’s realised that… it’s kind of a mental health thing,” he explained on the Zach Sang Show. “He doesn’t love the touring and the live show lifestyle.”
Delson still plays a key role in constructing the live experience, however. “Even though I’m not onstage, I put a lot of my creative love into it,” he tells Guitar World. “I’ve always been obsessed with the setlist, the concept of the show, and how it flows. I worked really hard on it; that’s no different than the past.”
He also takes a moment to praise another part of Linkin Park’s revitalised live show: frontwoman Emily Armstrong. “She has a kind of energy that feels simpatico with the creativity that moves and drives us,” he insists. “Everything just fell into place very naturally. That’s essential to the creative process.”
Above all, even if the new era of Linkin Park doesn’t resonate with everyone, Delson is still satisfies with what the band have created. “If nobody liked this record, I’d still be really stoked about it,” he admits. “But it’s performing in a way that doesn’t seem possible for a rock record now. There’s new people at the shows, mixed in with the long-term diehard fans. It’s an amazing time to celebrate and be grateful.”

We kinda had a feeling this would happen, though. When Mike Shinoda and the rest of the band popped up on our screens during a livestreaming event Thursday

Linkin Park are back on the road for the first time since 2017
in the form of a major reunion tour with a new vocalist
Linkin Park guitarist Brad Delson said he wouldn’t be participating in the group’s much-anticipated upcoming comeback tour
“Over the years I’ve realized I thrive most when I’m actively working with my bandmates behind the scenes—in the studio, collaborating on our new music, and helping build our live show,” Delson said in a message posted on Instagram
Alex Feder will step in as Linkin Park’s new touring guitarist for the upcoming shows
He performed for his first time with Linkin Park alongside fellow new members Emily Armstrong
the group’s new co-singer with longtime band member Mike Shinoda
and drummer Colin Brittain during Linkin Park’s livestream set on Thursday
“I am so proud of everything we continue to create together,” Delson continued in his statement about not being on tour with the band
“While I will not be performing on tour in this new chapter
and we are truly fortunate he’ll be contributing his unique talent to our LP universe.”
Thank you for joining us on the journey.”
Linkin Park’s new live lineup brings together Armstrong
“The more we worked with Emily and Colin
the more we enjoyed their world-class talents
We feel really empowered with this new lineup and the vibrant and energized new music we’ve made together
We’re weaving together the sonic touchpoints we’ve been known for and still exploring new ones.”
This album title refers to both this humble beginning and the journey we’re currently undertaking
It was made with a deep appreciation for our new and longtime bandmates
We are proud of what Linkin Park has become over the years
and excited about the journey ahead.”
The group currently has just six arena shows planned around the world that lead up to the release of their new studio album, “From Zero,” which will arrive on Nov. 15. The group will also head out on a longer tour in 2025, with dates pending.

An original member of Linkin Park has confirmed they won't be part of the band’s upcoming tour
just days after they confirmed their comeback
Linkin Park is making a comeback for the first time in seven years following the death of singer Chester Bennington
Fellow frontman Mike Shinoda introduced the band’s new singer, Emily Armstrong of Dead Sara
In this performance it was also confirmed that founding drummer Rob Bourdon would be being replaced by Colin Brittain
Despite Linkin Park's seemingly triumphant return
has since confirmed he will not be going on tour
This means that Shinoda is the final member of the original band to remain in the band
and Bourdon set up the band in high school in the 90s
Following this they recruited current members Dave Farrell and Joe Hahn
as well as the late Chester Bennington in 1999
Delson confirmed in a statement posted to Instagram that
despite being part of the band’s return just five days ago
he would not be joining them for their upcoming tour
His statement reads: “Beyond excited to share this new chapter with the world
“Bringing our vision to life is the culmination of many twists and turns
as we continue our unique journey together as a band.”
He went on to support the band’s new members
saying: “In awe of Emily [Armstrong] and Colin [Britttain] for their talent
In explaining his upcoming absence from the tour
Delson added: “Over the years I’ve realized I thrive most when I’m actively working with my bandmates behind the scenes - in the studio
“While I will not be performing on tour in this new chapter
I am super excited to introduce Alex - my handsome deputy on the road
This is yet another controversy for the band
as Emily Armstrong has faced criticisms for her alleged links to the Church of Scientology
who was convicted of two counts of rape in 2023
Armstrong admitted she had made a ‘mistake’ by supporting ‘a friend at a court appearance’
prior to knowing the extent of the accusations
She went on to say: “To say it as clearly as possible: I do not condone abuse or violence against women
and I empathize with the victims of these crimes.”

who works suspended from a helicopter on its side
says London is one of his favourite cities to capture
Which is what the 75-year-old daredevil artist Donn Delson does, all to bring a fresh perspective on familiar places to people on the ground.
Read more“Art is about creating a story and evoking emotion
giving people an experience they might not otherwise have had
I want people to feel like you’re in a helicopter with no door,” he said
that things aren’t always what they seem at first glance
It’s good when you take a beat to look at something and give a second consideration as to what it is and what it means to you as a person.”
takes his photos by flying around for a couple of hours in a doorless helicopter until he identifies a target image
The pilot then turns the helicopter on its side
enabling Delson to suspend himself and angle his camera to capture an image taken directly overhead that needs to be “tack sharp”
He then blows these up into large canvases that measure about 2.5 metres by 3.5 metres

Photograph: Donn DelsonLondon is one of his favourite cities to photograph thanks to its unusual urban topography – a mix of old and new architecture that has sprouted up in erratic
and surprising bursts of colour in its plethora of parks
When the Guardian joined Delson to get an insight into his work
flying around the city at about the height of the Shard (310 metres)
Neighbourhoods that feel distinct on the ground merged into a chaotic mishmash of skyscrapers of varying heights
contrasting with orderly rows of Victorian terraces
punctuated by tower blocks and interspersed with the parks’ bright shocks of green and the blue-grey Thames snaking through
buildings take on a whole different look – all of a sudden there’s lines
In this city there’s even colour – people jokingly tell me London has no colour – London is extremely colourful from the air,” Delson said

Photograph: Donn DelsonRather than documentary photography
he is looking to capture the unexpected that can be glimpsed only from this unusual vantage point
Familiar forms on the ground become abstract images when seen from the air
often resembling the explorations of colour and form contained in work by Piet Mondrian
Delson has travelled around the world in pursuit of the perfect
Among his favourites are the “breathtakingly beautiful” Missoni-esque desert striations next to the teal Dead Sea
a shot of Mount Fuji perfectly framed by fluffy white clouds
and a rare capturing of a rainbow in a 360° circle in Molokai
He is also interested in optical illusions
which are the subject of a forthcoming exhibition on shipping container art in Phoenix
inspired by an earlier piece picturing rows of coloured shipping containers resembling keys
“I’m kind of obsessed with the concept of perception and appearance versus reality, and a lot of my art, in my points of view collection, what I look for is a trompe l’oeil.
“I’m taking a photograph that is lifelike and I’m turning it on its side a little bit and making it something that tricks the eye and has a whimsical name to it. All of a sudden it’s something different than what you think it is.”

The Chinese AI company now faces several potential battles and a new one concerning the trademark of the company's name could be next on the list
What Happened: Since launching in the U.S., DeepSeek has been targeted by the White House as a potential national security risk.
The company has also been accused of IP theft by rival AI company OpenAI
a new issue is brewing with a report that the company does not own the trademark for its company name
While DeepSeek quickly gained name recognition in the last week and saw its app shoot to the top of the downloads chart
the startup could be forced to change its name in the future
The trademark for "DeepSeek" is owned by a Delaware-based company named Delson Group, as reported by TechCrunch
The trademark by Delson Group was filed days before DeepSeek put in their request on Tuesday with the U.S
Delson Group claims in their trademark filing that they have sold AI products under the DeepSeek name since early 2020
The company's CEO and founder Willie Lu also hosts educational courses on "AI Super-Intelligence" using the DeepSeek name according to the filing

Why It's Important: Trademark law in the U.S
often favors the first user of a trademark
"While DeepSeek could potentially seek a coexistence agreement if they can prove they operate in different aspects of AI than Delson Group
company has several advantages," lawyer Josh Gerben told TechCrunch
they claim earlier use – 2020 versus DeepSeek's claimed 2023 start date – they have a live website showing AI-related activities
Delson Group could potentially sue to block DeepSeek from using their brand name in the U.S
The report said that a search for Delson Group uncovered the company has a history of trademark squatting
mainly with securing trademarks for the names of Chinese companies in the U.S
Delson Group has around 28 current trademarks registered according to the report
While certain cases of trademark squatting can be proven illegal and end trademark claims
the fact that Delson Group has been using the DeepSeek name and establishing an AI presence for the brand over the years could create a battle for the name that many Americans became more familiar with on Monday
