residents can partner with the Service de police de la Ville de Gatineau (SPVG) to help police officers and investigators advance investigations following a crime that may have occurred in their neighbourhood,” said Gatineau police in a statement released Thursday
“The purpose of the camera registry is to maintain a database of residents who may have images captured by surveillance cameras in order to expedite and facilitate investigations following a crime.”

Police often ask for the public’s help in investigating crimes that may have surveillance camera or dashcam footage of an incident or suspects
This initiative takes it one step further by asking residents to sign up their cameras
The project was inspired by a similar registry introduced by the Trois Rivières Police Department in 2018
where surveillance camera footage has been used to track the route of impaired drivers and indentify suspects in hit-and-run cases and assaults outside bars
Other Quebec police forces have also adopted a surveillance camera registry
Being on the registry does not give police access to surveillance tape
The camera owner must provide consent for police to view footage
Registering a camera doesn’t imply consent
Cameras that are registered must be outdoors
and the cameras must retain the recordings
Cameras that qualify include fixed cameras and doorbell cameras
transmission or republication strictly prohibited

OttawaNewsCity of Gatineau warning of flooding risk in Aylmer By William EltheringtonPublished: April 26, 2025 at 4:46PM EDT
Certain places in Gatineau Park are still closed after damage caused by the August heavy rainfall. Please exercise caution, respect the barricades and follow the directional signage in place.
The Outaouais ridings have been Liberal strongholds federally since 2015 — and on Monday they got even stronger
Hull-Aylmer’s Greg Fergus and Sophie Chatel of Pontiac-Kitigan Zibi capitalized on their experience as incumbents with a raft of targeted regional promises to voters
• A new bridge over the Ottawa River in the East; • A tramway project between Hull and Ottawa; • More housing units
including for Université du Québec students; • More tech jobs in the Outaouais; • More funding for seniors’ programs; • and formal legislation to protect Gatineau Park
a cabinet minister under both Justin Trudeau and Mark Carney
with 19.5 per cent going to Conservative challenger Kethlande Pierre
“Unbelievable,” MacKinnon told the Citizen by phone
extremely happy.” He said that “voters were extremely engaged” when he campaigned door-to-door
perhaps moreso than in any election he could remember since the 1988 free-trade vote
would be the eastern bridge over the Ottawa River
With Gatineau’s population climbing rapidly
moving people across the river has become “an extremely acute problem.”
MacKinnon lived for 20 years in New Brunswick and married an Acadian
A one-time public affairs consultant and former national director of the federal Liberal party
MacKinnon made his first run for office in Gatineau in 2011
finishing third behind NDP candidate Françoise Boivin
he left the second-place Conservative candidate in the dust
MacKinnon was government whip and House leader
He briefly considered running for the Liberal leadership after Justin Trudeau announced he was stepping down
MacKinnon was named minister of the new Jobs and Families department by Carney
MacKinnon was confident enough of his victory in this election to help stump for Liberals in other ridings: last week he was in Hamilton-Centre to support the local party candidate
The other Gatineau candidates in Monday’s election: Conservative Kethlande Pierre; The Bloc Québécois’s Richard Nadeau; Daniel Simoncic for the NDP; Pierre Soublière
Marxist-Leninist; and Mathieu Saint-Jean of the Peoples’ Party of Canada
Greg Fergus shook off the scrapes he has had with opposition parties while he was Speaker of the House of Commons
followed by Conservative Jill Declare with 16.8 per cent
He captured the seat in the 2021 election with 52.5 per cent of the vote
“is tackling the housing crisis in Hull–Aylmer.”
He was parliamentary secretary to prime minister Justin Trudeau
as well as to several other senior ministers
He served on the Standing Committee on Finance
and he is a founding member of the Parliamentary Black Caucus and Liberal Black Caucus
both of which he co-chaired until April 2022
has been a Liberal stronghold since it was created in 1917 — except from the election of former PSAC leader Nycole Turmel in 2011 as part of the Jack Layton “Orange Wave.”
Other candidates in the riding Monday included: Jill Declare
Conservative (she placed a distant second); Pascale Matecki
Bloc Québécois; Frédéric Morin-Paquette Green party candidate; Jean-Jacques Desgranges ran for the People’s Party of Canada; Alexandre Deschênes ran for the Marxist-Leninist party
followed by Conservative Brian Nolan with 27.5 per cent
Declare told the Citizen Monday night she was pleased not just that the Liberals would form the next federal government
but that Quebec was also “holding strong” for the party
is a riding “larger than Belgium … a microcosm of Canada” with a mix of English
The amount of door-knocking done during the campaign will send her back to the House of Commons better informed and therefore with a stronger voice for the riding
Her first local priority will be resurrecting a bill
to give formal federal protection to Gatineau Park
succeeding Liberal Will Amos and more than doubling the vote count of her nearest rival
former head of the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) tax treaty unit and the mother of twins
he pointed out “It’s the first time an Algonquin Anishnaabe ever runs in this riding.” Whiteduck placed fourth behind Conservative Brian Nolan and Suzanne Proulx of the Bloc Québécois

Four people from Gatineau are facing charges after what police described as an armed assault and attempted robbery on the Ruisseau-de-la-Brasserie Trail
near Morin Street in the Hull sector on April 6
A news release on Tuesday said Gatineau Police Service officers were called to the area at about 4:45 p.m
The victim of the alleged theft had been walking along the trail when four people approached and attempted to steal her bag
the victim was injured in one hand by a bladed weapon
but the suspects fled after they were unable to take the bag
police identified where the suspects had gone and arrested them there
A warrant was obtained and led to the search of a tent located near rue Morin
were to appear in court on charges of robbery
assault with a weapon and uttering threats
Vendette-Whissel and Audrey Linteau-Godin also faced charges of failure to comply with a court order
and anyone who witnessed the incident or had information about it was asked to contact police at 819-246-0222

But the award-winning Gatineau baker certainly developed an appreciation for the sweet
sticky stuff after he moved to Canada about two and half decades ago
“I was immediately captivated by its amber colour and its unique taste
but also by its origin — an entirely natural product made from maple sap
which depends each year on a very specific climate: mild days and very cold nights,” Oddo said
“Maple syrup remains an exceptional symbol
capable of touching the hearts of young and old alike
It’s a sweet treat that evokes both nature and childhood.”
If that glowing testimonial doesn’t make you curious about the maple-themed treats at Oddo’s bakery
How about this: Oddo was named Quebec’s best pastry chef in 2021
just two years after he opened his bakery in a Saint-Raymond Boulevard mall
Among Oddo’s maple treats are maple leaf cookies
tall maple cream-filled “escargot” pastries (which look more like mushrooms than snails to me)
But if you visit Maison Oddo for its seasonal offerings — also available until Easter are elaborate chocolate creations
chocolate bread and hot cross buns — you will
Viennoiseries here are feats of buttery lightness with beautiful crisp exteriors
are absolutely top-notch brownies against which others should be measured
The creation that Oddo calls “sous-bois” (forest floor) is a visual stunner in a jar that looks like a magic mushroom growing in soil
pistachio sponge cake and chocolate streusel
It’s also meant to push your nostalgia buttons by evoking memories of Black Forest cake
He had illustrious employers before he struck out on his own
Although Oddo is a self-taught baker who got his start at his brother’s bakery in Quebec’s Eastern Townships
he then became the pastry chef at the Casino du Lac-Leamy in Gatineau
overseeing a team of 18 when he was just 23
He went on to be the pastry chef at L’Atelier de Joël Robuchon
the temple of gastronomy in the Montreal Casino
Oddo’s partner and children are in Gatineau
Some people told Oddo that his high-end breads and baked goods wouldn’t fly in Gatineau
that it wasn’t the right market for what he made
that there weren’t enough French émigrés like himself here who would naturally be enamoured with his baking wizardry
Business has doubled over the last few years and regular customers come from as far as Arnprior
Oddo has been so successful that a second location is to open in September on Saint-Joseph Boulevard in Gatineau’s Hull sector
Twice as much Oddo can only be a good thing for the national capital region’s sweet-treat fans

The Ottawa Citizen recently asked readers: “What’s the one issue that needs immediate attention from Canada’s next leader?” Hundreds responded
and we drew up what we’re calling the Citizen’s Agenda: five questions for Ottawa-Outaouais candidates in the April 28 federal election
In Gatineau riding, we sent the questionnaire to candidates from the five major parties. One response, from Liberal candidate Steven MacKinnon
Facing a housing crisis worsened by tariffs, we’ll launch the most ambitious housing plan since the Second World War — aiming to double housing starts annually across Canada. While Poilievre wants to cut proven solutions like the Housing Accelerator Fund — set to deliver hundreds of affordable homes in the region — we’ll take bold action to ensure affordability and availability. Our plan includes:
• Eliminating red tape to fast-track construction;
• Reducing homebuilding costs by investing in housing enabling infrastructure;
• Removing the GST for first-time buyers on homes under $1 million — saving families up to $50,000;
• Launching Build Canada Homes to reinvolve the federal government in construction.
Spring is by far my favorite season! With hockey playoffs underway and the weather warming up, there’s so much to look forward to. It’s the season where local markets open, outdoor terraces return, and cultural events fill the streets. For me, spring means getting back to biking and running, walking with my dog, doing activities with my family, and enjoying the outdoors a little more.

The Sûreté du Québec in Outaouais says it is cracking down to reduce “dangerous” driving during the afternoon rush hour as traffic piles up on Highway 5 to access Autoroute 50
which heads north and east to Gatineau suburbs
“Some motorists travel in the left lane (of Highway 5) and wait until the last minute to change lanes to take the exit of Highway 50,” SQ said in a release
Others just stop their vehicles in the left lane of Highway 5 to wait for a chance to turn right
“In addition to violating the Highway Safety Code
(the actions) can compromise the safety of road users,” the SQ said
“Note that other operations are planned in the coming days at this location when you return home,” the SQ warned

CANADA: Technical and environmental studies are to begin this spring for the TramGO project to develop a 24 km tramway connecting western and central Gatineau in Québec with Ottawa in neighbouring Ontario
The federal and Québec governments have allocated C$163·5m to plan the Québec section of the route
and in December the federal government confirmed C$31·6m over three years for the Ontario section
In December the Québec side’s local transport agency STO awarded Groupe Porteur a C$114m contract to provide multidisciplinary professional and technical services for its section of the route
working with Richez_Associés and Provencher_Roy
It will produce detailed work plans and schedules for public consultation
and provide technical and environmental studies
support procurement and supervise construction and commissioning
The tramway will have 2 km in Ontario and 22 km in Quebec
The National Capital Commission has approved in principle at-grade running on Ottawa’s Wellington Street
although a tunnel under Sparks Street may also be considered
The Y-shaped line would cross the River Ottawa on the Portage Bridge
before dividing into a 7·5 km north branch along Boulevard Saint-Raymond
Boulevard du Plateau and Chemin Vanier as far as Vanier itself
a 10·5 km southern branch would run along Chemin d’Aylmers
Boulevard Wilfrid-Lavigne and boulevard des Allumettières to Eardly
There would be 37 stops including four multimodal hubs
boosting public transport capacity between Gatineau and Ottawa

A 32-year-old Gatineau man is facing charges
after police searched a Wigwas Street residence in the Hull sector
“This intervention took place following information from the public to the effect that the suspect had made threats and disseminated hate speech on a social network,” the Gatineau police said in a translated news release Monday
who was arrested at the scene of the search
appeared in the Gatineau courthouse on Feb
advocating genocide and transmitting threats to the users of a social-network platform to cause death or bodily harm
Police said the following items were seized during the search: a cellphone
tablet and computer equipment; a sling; a homemade bayonet; bow
arrows and quivers; a crossbow and arrows; bear repellents; two air guns; one pellet revolver; two air rifles; and an air submachine gun
Gatineau police invited anyone with information or fears about hate speech to contact its INFO line at 819-243-4636
They also said they continue to fight against gun violence and reminded the public that any information concerning this type of activity can be communicated confidentially via its INFO line at 819-243-4636
The Gatineau Police Service say a continuing investigation into a child pornography case leads them to believe a 20-year-old man facing multiple charges already may have had other victims
possession and distribution of child pornography and child luring after the search of a residence on rue Sainte-Rose in the Gatineau sector on March 19
The search resulted in the seizure of cellphones
said an April 2 news release from Gatineau police
adding that the investigation began following information received by the Ontario Provincial Police
Police said the case involved social-media exchanges. Intimate photos were allegedly shared and, when the victim ignored additional requests for more images, the man allegedly shared the earlier images of her.
The investigation is continuing, police said.
Anyone who has been a victim or witnessed the sharing of intimate photos was encouraged to contact the Gatineau Police Service at 819-243-4636, option 5.
OttawaNewsU.S. college football programs courting Gatineau, Que. teenagerBy Peter SzperlingUpdated: March 19, 2025 at 4:29PM EDT
has been the heart of Algonquin territory from time immemorial
The name Ottawa likely comes from the Algonquin word “adawe,” which means “to trade.” The fur trade was prominent in the early years of European settlement
while lumber was king for much of the 19th century
a large number of Ottawa and Gatineau residents work in the public service
There are five bridges connecting Ottawa and Gatineau
with many locals making the trek to the other side of the river to work
let’s take a look at how statistically connected these two cities were at the time of the 2021 Census
The residents of Ottawa were a bit older than their counterparts across the river (41.5 years versus 41.2 years) in 2021
while Gatineau laid claim to a larger share of youth aged 14 and younger (17.2% versus 15.7%)
given that it’s the National Capital Region
the public sector is by far the largest employer in both cities
Over one in four residents of Gatineau (26.2%) in the labour force at the time of the 2021 Census were working in public administration
compared with over one in five in Ottawa (21.1%)
6.2% of the Canadian labour force was working in public administration at the time of the 2021 Census
the days of the fur or lumber trade are a distant memory
with relatively few residents of Ottawa (0.4%) or Gatineau (0.3%) employed in agriculture
the median household income in Ottawa before taxes ($102,000) was one-fifth higher compared with Gatineau ($82,000) and was also higher compared with the national median household income ($84,000)
Residents of Ottawa (42.3%) were also much more likely to report annual household after-tax income of over $100,000 than residents of Gatineau (28.0%) or Canada overall (31.9%)
Although households in Ottawa reported higher income than their neighbours across the river in 2021
households in Gatineau were much less likely to report core housing need
Core housing need refers to “whether a private household’s housing falls below at least one of the indicator thresholds for housing adequacy
and would have to spend 30% or more of its total before-tax income to pay the median rent of alternative local housing that is acceptable.”
Over one in four households in Ottawa were in core housing need (27.9%) in 2021
one in four (25.3%) Canadian households were in core housing need
One big difference between residents of Ottawa and Gatineau is the likelihood of working in another province
just over one in four Gatineau residents in the labour force (26.8%) crossed the Ottawa River to work
compared with 2.8% of Ottawa workers crossing in the opposite direction
Gatineau workers were more likely to commute by motor vehicle than Ottawa workers (81.4% versus 76.8%) while Ottawa workers were more likely to commute by public transit than Gatineau workers (11.2% versus 10.7%)
Approximately two-thirds of workers in Ottawa (70.1%) and Gatineau (66.2%) could commute to work in under 30 minutes
Both official languages were much more likely to be spoken in households in Gatineau (65.0%) than in Ottawa (36.4%) in 2021
60.6% of households reported speaking English only at home
1.4% reported speaking French only and 1.5% reported speaking neither English nor French
8.4% of households reported speaking English only at home
25.9% reported speaking French only and 0.7% reported speaking neither English nor French
When it comes to the language used at work
the vast majority (91.2%) of Ottawa households reported speaking only English at work
Over half of the households (57.1%) in Gatineau reported using only French at work while just over one-third (34.1%) reported speaking only English
just over 38,000 residents of these two cities were Indigenous
with 26,395 living in Ottawa and 11,705 in Gatineau
Gatineau (4.1%) had more Indigenous residents than Ottawa (2.6%)
but both were below the national average of 5.0%

A worker involved in a snow removal operation in Gatineau is dead after being struck by a heavy vehicle Monday

When first responders arrived at the scene
The worker who died was reportedly an employee of a subcontracting company involved in a snow removal operation
There was “no criminal element” involved at this time
adding that investigators were assisting the coroner in determining the causes and circumstances of the fatal collision

Analucia went to live with her mother; Desbiens says he tries to see her when he can
Desbiens stayed with Carriere at her father’s place for a month before he had to move out
but he didn’t think it was a place to keep Koopa
So he had no choice but to give his loyal pet away to friends of friends
The sound of constant screaming and loud noises throughout the night made it difficult for him to live in peace
he’d find his peace in a light green shipping container located in a Quebec parking lot
people experiencing homelessness have been moving in on a rolling basis to Village Transitiôn in Gatineau
On top of a couple of inches of January snow
green and white shipping containers spread out within the gated village
The giant boxes have been repurposed into homes
complete with electricity and running water
The homes are managed by non-profit group Transitiôn Québec
The village is intended to house 100 people experiencing homelessness by the end of May
“This is something that I’ve dreamed of,” Martineau said about seeing the village come alive with residents
Desbiens moved into his mint green shipping container home at the edge of the lot on Jan
recalling the first time he saw his new living quarters
One of the first things he appreciated, he said, was the relative solitude of his new home.
“I can go in my room, close the door, and be alone,” he said with a smile. “Here, I’m not afraid my things will get stolen.”
The door to Desbiens’s shipping container home opens with an electronic key fob.
As relics of his previous home, dozens of Desbiens’s stuffed animals — including Scooby-Doo, Pikachu and Bart Simpson — are piled upon his bed. Mounted on the wall to the right of his kitchen is a small TV, which catches a slight glare from the light emitting through the window on the opposite side of the room.
“When I arrived there was a pillow, a blanket, a TV,” Desbiens recalled. “Brand new.”
Martineau says every container home will have internet access and heating, but residents can choose between a smaller, 100-foot or larger, 150-foot living space. The latter is equipped with a full bathroom and kitchen.
Desbiens is currently staying in the smaller option until the larger room he applied for is ready.
“For now, this is better than over there,” Desbiens said, gesturing towards Gîte Ami across the street.
Rent varies between $200 and $500, based on the resident’s income, Martineau said.
Desbiens is currently paying $227 per month.
“I would pay that just for the tranquility,” he said with a laugh.
During the application process, potential residents were interviewed by Transitiôn Québec workers, according to Martineau.
“We need to know if you want to work on yourself,” she said. “For some people, it’s getting welfare cheques. For some people, it’s having their identity card. For others, it’s doing their income tax.
“Everybody needs to have a goal and work on it.”
Desbiens says he “knows his flaws,” including his alcohol and drug consumption, and what he needs to work on.
Thanks to the security Village Transitiôn offers, Desbiens is ready to start looking for a steady income beyond his regular welfare cheques.
“I have more motivation in the morning and I can sleep better at night,” he said. “Now that I’m here, I can go look for a job.”
He adds that he is also thinking of going back to school to obtain his high school diploma. He is only missing French and physics credits.
Martineau says the village is intended to provide a transition period to integrate people back into regular housing. Residents can stay between one to five years.
“Everywhere else you go, you can stay a month, sometimes two or three months, and you have to find a place … but here you can take your time,” she said. “When you don’t know where you’re going to sleep next month, it’s hard to make plans for your life.”
Martineau says she hopes most residents will find a place to stay after five years. However, she said that, if residents still can’t find a permanent home, Village Transitiôn will continue to house them.
“It’s up to them to tell (us) when they want to leave,” Martineau said.
Despite everything the village offers, not all experts are convinced tiny home transitional housing is the best strategy for tackling homelessness.
Tim Aubry, a retired University of Ottawa professor who researches homelessness, says studies about the use of tiny home villages to address homelessness are lacking.
“There’s not really much research into their effectiveness,” Aubry said. “To some extent, it’s an experiment. It will provide shelter and hopefully the sheltered people will be satisfied with it. We’ll see.
“But it’s not regular housing. It’s not moving people into a place that’s going to be permanent.”
Desbiens, meanwhile, is unsure how long he’ll be staying in the village.
“I want to move out,” he said, “but I’ll make sure I’m not going out and having to come back later.”
His long-term goal — other than adopting another dog — is to bring his family back together under one roof.
“We’re looking for a place,” he said. “When we can go somewhere, we’ll go.”
Gatineau police made a total of 15 arrests on Thursday as they moved in to break up a controversial encampment near the Robert Guertin Centre in the Hull sector
A police update in late afternoon said two individuals had been released without charge
two others had been released at the scene and would be charged by summons
while 11 remained detained pending Court of Quebec appearances
included possession of narcotics for the purpose of trafficking
obstructing police and illegal possession of firearms
so additional arrests and charges could follow
“This is a major operation and I would like to thank all the police officers
as well as the partners who took part in the operation for a very long time,” Stéphane Raymond
everything went well and no one was injured
management of the site will be returned to the city.”
when Gatineau police staged a large deployment to serve five warrants in connection with alleged drug trafficking inside trailers on the site
The deployment included more than 70 officers plus the Gatineau and Sûreté du Québec tactical intervention groups
investigators and intelligence agents of the Criminal Investigation Division
a crisis intervention unit of the city and the CISSS de l’Outaouais regional health agency
a canine unit and the Gatineau police forensic identification unit
as well as lawyers from the city and prosecutors from the provincial Director of Criminal and Penal Prosecutions
a formal notice was delivered to the residents saying occupants who refused to leave trailers “illegally” on city property would be arrested
Police said the warning was delivered three times
Only one person voluntarily left the area at that point
after which police began to seize trailers
officers seized more than a dozen firearms and other homemade weapons
a pellet rifle with a telescopic sight and another rifle
two passports and various other identity documents
prescription medication tablets and several other substances and tablets yet to be identified
“We know that violent events that have occurred in recent weeks have not been reported to the police department
that victims are afraid to report situations that worry them or to ask for help
and that witnesses have fears about their safety,” said Chief Insp
Mathieu Guilbault of the criminal investigation division
“We understand that it is difficult for these people to trust the authorities
we would like to tell them that our employees are ready to listen to them
welcome them and support them in the complaint process if they wish to move forward
They will be taken seriously without judgment
We hope that the operations of recent weeks have proven to them that the police department will not tolerate any violent offences.”
the police statement said “alternative accommodation options” were offered to occupants of eight stored trailers and various city departments were working with community partners to allow the individuals from those trailers to recover their personal property
the site was to be secured by the public works department to prevent others from setting up with trailers
The nearby École secondaire de l’Île high school remained open on Thursday
A 22-year-old Gatineau man has been arrested on charges of sexual assault.
Police said there were concerns there may be other victims.
Fawaz Sultan Al-Jalloud, was arrested Wednesday and appeared in court Friday, police said.
He was released on conditions that included staying away from parks and other areas that might have children under the age of 16. He cannot use the Internet except in the presence of his parents.
Police said that al-Jalloud’s alleged victims were between 14 and 18 years of age and that he met them on Snapchat, Instagram and other internet sites in 2023 and 2024.
After some online exchanges, the suspect would meet the victims in his car, where the incidents allegedly occurred. His car is a 2024 blue Volkswagen 2.
Anyone with information about the case was asked to call Gatineau police at 819-243-4636, option 5.
now accepts a wider range of recyclable materials such as chip bags and yoghurt containers
with all collected items continuing to be processed at Tricentris
Recycling has become easier and more inclusive for Gatineau residents following significant updates to the city’s blue bin programme
a broader range of materials is now accepted in the blue recycling bins
aligning the city with province-wide efforts to simplify waste management and encourage higher recycling rates
Residents now need only determine if an item is a container
This update significantly expands what can be recycled
which were previously destined for landfills
can now be given a second life through the updated recycling programme
and other paper products—can also go in the blue bin alongside plastics and other recyclables
While these materials are mixed in the blue bin
they are carefully separated at facilities like Tricentris
the recycling centre separates paper-based materials
and other recyclables to ensure they are processed correctly and recycled into new products
This streamlined system reduces the need for residents to pre-sort materials
making recycling more accessible and convenient
Aerosol containers and expanded polystyrene protective packaging
such as large foam blocks used in shipping
cannot go in the blue bin and must still be taken to designated ecocentres for proper disposal
This update follows Gatineau’s partnership with Éco Entreprises Québec
the organisation spearheading the modernisation of selective collection across the province
reflects Gatineau’s proactive approach to improving recycling systems
City officials have emphasised the importance of these changes
highlighting the environmental and practical benefits for residents
Chair of the Commission on the Environment and Climate Change
described the update as a major step forward
"This long-awaited modernisation simplifies recycling for our community while expanding the range of accepted materials
We hope these changes encourage greater participation and help reduce the environmental footprint of our city," he said
To accommodate residents with larger volumes of recyclables
the city offers an additional blue bin free of charge through its 311 service
Gatineau provides guidance via its website and the DTRITUS app
ensuring that everyone can contribute to the success of the new programme

The federal government says it will take the next steps to build a sixth bridge between Ottawa and Gatineau
the fall economic statement says the government will initiate the “next phase” to plan and design a new “multimodal bridge” over the Ottawa River in the city’s east end
the Eastern Bridge will become an important piece of transportation infrastructure that will optimize public transit networks and eliminate truck traffic in congested downtown cores
boosting economic growth in downtown Gatineau and Ottawa
and making active transportation safer,” the economic statement says
Kettle Island was proposed as “Corridor 5.”
The fall economic statement did not include any new funding for the project
the federal government announced a joint investment of $163.5 million with the Quebec provincial government for planning the Gatineau side of that project

The collective agreement will run from September 1
Within 60 days following the date the agreement is signed
members will be receiving retroactive increases totalling more than 6% along with a 5% lump sum payment
In spite of some provisions that allow Videotron to resort to more contracting out in the service provided to Gatineau customers
all employees in Gatineau will be covered by a job security clause that will apply for the duration of the collective agreement
also consolidates day schedules from Monday to Friday in customer service and establishes four-day-a-week schedules for 25% of employees
all disciplinary action and all dismissals that occurred during the lockout will be cancelled
The workers will be able to resume the essential role they play in society and stand proud for having defended their rights and their future,” said Mingione

the City of Gatineau considered a moratorium on real estate development for residential and commercial construction
given the current situation of the housing crisis
given the inability of wastewater infrastructure to cope with rapid growth in the territory
all new residential and commercial constructions may be prohibited for a period of two years throughout the territory of the city
Director General of the APCHQ (Quebec Association of Professional Builders)
there was a proposal for a budget of $300 million to resolve the problem of overflows by 2050
only $2 million per year has been disbursed to help with the situation
A significant investment should be made to rectify this issue
According to Gatineau Mayor Maude Marquis-Bissonnette
this would be a challenge that would be linked directly to municipal taxation
Billions would have to be spent to resolve the situation
No concrete decision has yet been made by the City of Gatineau
an assessment of the situation must be carried out
discussing the subject of the moratorium on real estate development
