You can buy many of your home essentials by sticking with Kirkland Signature brand items from Costco From decor and textiles to cleaning supplies and furniture the warehouse sells hundreds of products under the Kirkland umbrella you might be tempted to grab any of the store brand's products over its pricier it's public knowledge that the chain works with many different manufacturers to produce its Kirkland offerings that means that there are differences in quality from item to item an army of loyal shoppers have shared their unbiased opinions on all things Kirkland-related Between reviews on Costco's website and other places online it just takes a little digging to sort out the must-have items from the not-worth-it ones Here's the scoop on eight Kirkland-brand items that are worth buying and three that aren't according to first-hand experience and real customer reviews Of all the home items sold under the Kirkland brand, their Signature 680 Thread Count sheets are among the most popular They currently have an average rating of 4.6 out of 5 stars on Costco.com They're available in four sizes and four colors (white Reviewers love the softness of the fabric and the way the corners of the fitted sheet are designed "The fitted sheet has wonderful elastic-reinforced corners that make the sheets easy to put on the mattress and KEEP it on the mattress if you are not a sound sleeper." And the price is reasonable a set of Kirkland sheets currently costs between $75 and $90 a set of sheets with similar specs would currently cost you upwards of $150 at Macy's No one set of sheets is perfect for everyone's tastes Many reviewers note that the top sheets aren't wide enough for their preferences Reddit commenters also say they aren't great for hot sleepers if you tend to wake up feeling sweaty and overheated percale or linen bedding might be better choices than these pima cotton sheets Reviewers are generally pleased with the effectiveness of the UltraShine pacs and give them an average rating of 4.6 stars. One person simply wrote: "Work as well as any name brand." They get the stamp of approval from Consumer Reports the Platinum Performance UltraShine packs performed "excellently" at removing food and resisting the buildup of film or white spots A few reviewers have complained about disliking the odor of the detergent false lemon scent." They also noted that washing plastic dishes with these detergent pacs caused them to absorb the smell you might want to hand wash anything plastic if you use UltraShine at home If there's anything dog people feel passionate about, it's the comfort and safety of their pups. So the fact that the Kirkland Signature Rectangular Bolster Pet Bet has an overall rating of 4.8 stars is a good indicator that a lot of dogs (and their owners) really love it Golden Retriever and she just loves this bed SHE PICKS THIS." Currently priced at $59.99 it's big enough for even a large dog to stretch out on and has a machine-washable cover the bed has only a handful of critical comments One mentions that their dog tore the bed apart within 24 hours of getting it But others mention that it is durable and that their dogs scratch and dig into this bed without ripping it the photos of real dogs snoozing and smiling on the bed are further proof of this bed's popularity Kirkland Signature Paper Towels have long been a staple in many households They've been reviewed by more than 34,000 people on Costco's website and have a very impressive 4.8-star rating They're also known to be reliably sturdy and absorbent but sold at a lower price than the name brands There's been some controversy in recent years when Costco shoppers noticed some changes in their Kirkland paper towels People aired their complaints on social media: the rolls were no longer individually wrapped and the paper quality seemed to have dropped One 2024 Reddit thread shows paper towels with different patterns Reviewers also noted that the paper towels seemed to shift in quality at one point many recent reviews still give the product five-star marks You can find packs for the same amount in other stores but you get more bang for your buck with Kirkland Target currently sells 12-roll packs of their up&up store-brand paper towels for about the same price you'll get over 200 square feet more of paper towels in the Kirkland package A lot of happy sleepers swear by the Kirkland Signature by Stearns & Foster Lakeridge Mattress There are several specific things reviewers say they like about the bed that's currently rated 4.3 stars they love that it's firm and supportive for people of all sizes We had a very tough time finding a mattress that offers enough support for my weight while being comfortable enough for her."  And, on the r/Mattress subreddit another reviewer wrote: "I sleep with two dogs and my partner as it's firm enough to prevent the mattress from moving." One criticism that comes up in multiple reviews is the fact that this mattress sleeps a little hot Costco gave their beds some serious credibility by partnering with Stearns & Foster on their Kirkland mattresses so it likely won't be available in warehouses for you to try out Costco's return policy is notoriously flexible you can get your money back if it turns out not to be the mattress of your dreams Costco makes six different varieties of Kirkland garbage bags, including heavy-duty and outdoor trash bags, and they're all well-reviewed by shoppers. Their basic kitchen drawstring bags have the most fans, though. With more than 10,000 ratings, Kirkland Signature Flex-Tech 13-Gallon Trash Bags rate an average of 4.8 stars What makes a basic kitchen trash bag so popular It's really what these trash bags don't do that matters (Kirkland does make a scented version of the same bag for shoppers who prefer it.) The price point is part of their popularity A box of 200 Kirkland bags currently costs $20.99 a 200-count box of Walmart's Great Value bags breaks down to 12.3 cents per bag As liquid dish soap goes, Kirkland Signature Ultra Shine liquid dish soap ticks all the boxes It's reasonably priced (11 cents per ounce) and a 90-ounce bottle should last for many months The actual bottle itself is too unwieldy to keep at your sink but the handle and easy-pour cap allow you to decant some into a smaller container one commenter said they had switched from Dawn Platinum to Ultra Shine without noticing any difference in cleaning quality As with many other Kirkland cleaning products the most common complaints are about the strong perfume-like fragrance keep that in mind if you're sensitive to smells With an average rating of 4.6 stars, Kirkland Signature Ultra Clean Laundry Pacs have a lot of fans Reviewers say they're "just as good as Tide," that clothes come out smelling pleasantly clean The price of the 152-count box breaks down to just 15 cents per load the liquid version of Kirkland's Ultra Clean laundry detergent breaks down to a cost of about 14 cents a load But the pacs might actually be more cost-effective over time Measuring out your own laundry detergent for each load means you might use a little more than the allotted amount Add an UltraClean pac and water to the washing machine before adding clothes so the capsule can be fully submerged and start to break down Kirkland Signature Oxi Powder is one of Costco's newest products but shoppers were pretty much immediately unimpressed when this stain remover hit shelves in 2024 Reviewers are put off by the "cloying obnoxious floral" odor especially because the packaging doesn't clearly note that it's a scented product Some users describe being unable to enter the laundry room or sleep at night on sheets that were washed with it but the Oxi Powder still averages just 3.5 out of 5 stars with a 4.8 out of 5 rating and thousands of glowing reviews on Amazon Kirkland Signature Ultra Fresh Scent Boosters do have some fans who say they love the product's "clean laundry" smell but too many reviewers warn their fellow shoppers to steer clear With an overall score of just 3.5 out of 5 on the Costco website about one-third of reviews rate these scent boosters one star The primary complaint has nothing to do with odor Reviewers say that the scent booster beads don't dissolve completely leaving sticky bits of semi-melted material stuck to their laundry and on the insides of their washing machines From a quick glance at Costco's site, you'd probably assume that their Kirkland Signature Bath Tissue would be a good buy But this is one case where reviews tell a different story The Costco subreddit is flooded with comments from people who have noticed a change in the quality of Kirkland toilet paper since the pandemic "It looks like it snowed in the bathroom with ALL the PAPER FIBER FUZZ that explodes out of the package when opened." Several Redditors agree that lint from the paper gets all over their bathrooms and even gets stuck to themselves compared to $1.75 per 100 square feet for the basic bath tissue This content references scientific studies and academic research Our team of licensed nutritionists and dietitians strives to be objective We are committed to bringing you researched expert-driven content to help you make more informed decisions around food We know how important making choices about your overall health is and we strive to provide you with the best information possible Like any other retail store, Costco keeps a close eye on what members are spending their hard-earned money on and frequently groups those items so shoppers can look up what's hot this month customers are voting with their wallets for what their absolute favorite items are right now—both Kirkland Signature products and big name brands Here are seven of the best Costco favorites members are raving about so far this month Costco shoppers love the Fairlife Nutrition Plan Chocolate Protein Shakes ($38.99) "These are the best protein shakes I've ever had!" one shopper said "I've been using this product for several years It is perfect for those of us who have trouble getting enough protein each day due to serving size issues or limited capacity (bariatric surgery) It doesn't have an off flavor like many of the protein products on the market," another commented 8 Most Surprising Items I Found at Costco This Week The Kirkland Signature Thai Hom Mali Jasmine Rice ($23.99) is fantastic value for money It was delivered in excellent condition for food storage," one member said The Kirkland Signature Paper Towels ($23.99) are bestsellers for good reason They are a good value for the money," one shopper wrote "We only use the Kirkland brand paper towels Shoppers love the Kirkland Signature Organic Ground Saigon Cinnamon ($19.99) "I put cinnamon in my smoothie every morning I like that it's organic and I like having a nice supply," one shopper said Good consistency and can be used in hot or cold beverages without becoming 'muddy,'" another commented Lea & Perrins Worcestershire Sauce ($10.49) is another delicious must-have item for Costco shoppers "L & P Worcestershire sauce is the best all around umami delivering sauce available," one member said "The mixture of spices and other ingredients to include anchovies which in itself is an umami delivering ingredient are fantastic Also the sauce is fermented unlike other sauces." at 11:14AM EDT Twitter feed ©2025 BellMedia All Rights Reserved Tearing his ACL in November is just the latest hurdle Justin Kirkland has had to overcome in his hockey career The forward discusses overcoming his latest adversity Photos courtesy of Madison Kirkland Justin Kirkland's journey through adversity has been defined by resilience Perseverance has always been a trait of the 28-year-old forward for the Calgary Flames Kirkland has faced bad luck and serious injuries including a career-threatening auto accident just over two years ago Kirkland suffered a torn ACL during a game against Columbus forcing him to miss the remainder of the 2024-25 NHL season along with three shootout tallies and a plus-6 rating “This was my first real opportunity where I was getting settled into the NHL and making an impact,” he told NHLPA.com “It’s a sample size of 21 games but I know I can do that for a full season My mindset is that I have five or six months to get ready for training camp I want to come back and show that I am fully capable of playing in the NHL and being an impact player.” Getting back on the ice and a return to action has been the epitome of a team effort Kirkland has found strength in many others “He's had to fight,” said Madison and I am determined to support him in every way I can so l take a lot of pride in helping him mentally.” Kirkland admits that the mental side of recovery has been the toughest part “It can be a challenge,” said Kirkland who was taken 62nd overall by Nashville in the 2014 NHL Draft but the biggest lesson I have learned with the injuries is to be open and honest with the people I am closest to Not every day is going to feel great and not every day is going to be the best one If I am having a bad day and I am not in the best mental space Madison fully encourages Justin to open up in those tough moments men can have a hard time admitting when they're struggling mentally so l have always encouraged Justin to be open about where he's at mentally,” added Madison “I try to be a stability for him mentally whether that's helping lift him up when he's having a tough day mentally or being there for him encouraging him to open up – a problem shared is a problem halved I'll take it head on and we'll get through it together.” Just like the couple did in the aftermath of the horrific car accident that nearly took Kirkland’s life in early January of 2023 On his way to a game with the Anaheim Ducks Kirkland’s truck collided with an SUV and veered across multiple lanes before crashing into a median Doctors shared that a bone just two millimeters away from his brain could have left him either brain-dead or paralyzed Kirkland returned to the ice three months later and was soon waived by the Ducks He then signed as a free agent with Calgary in July 2019 Madison knew her husband would be back on the ice “We've been together for over 1O years now Justin was with the [Western Hockey League’s] Kelowna Rockets when we met and I remember they did a team awards event at the end of the season where Justin was given the Unsung Hero Award And that rings so true for the person and player he is never had opportunities handed to him – he's fought to be where he is after a near-death car accident on his way to playing in Anaheim that broke his nose in 14 different places … we were thankful he survived that let alone ever be able to play hockey again He was going to fight back through the AHL to get back to the NHL all over again.” Five years after he first signed with the Flames will look to make his way back to the NHL once again The veteran forward also tore his ACL in November three weeks before Kirkland suffered the same fate “You don’t want to see anyone else hurt but Anthony and I have been able to go through this process together to have one another and talk about how we are doing mentally and where we are at We also have each other to push one another when we are in the gym so having him has been a key part of the rehab.” Kirkland and Mantha recently visited the Alberta Children’s Hospital’s mental health unit where they played video games with young patients “It can feel like Groundhog Day because you are doing the same thing over and over whether it is getting out in the community getting together with Anthony and his wife – a change of scenery is key for all this,” said Kirkland But there are still difficult moments to navigate Having to be a fan rather than a participant as the Flames battle for a playoff spot is one of the toughest but it has been fun to cheer them along,” said Kirkland I am on different schedule than they are with game day and practices but to chat with them – they are a great group of guys who are very supportive Talking to our trainers – we have great people on the team “It’s an exciting time for the team to be in the middle of a playoff race but it is also hard because I don’t want to be watching from a couch or chair I want to be out there doing anything I can to help the team win.” Kirkland turns to those who comprise his inner circle not being around the team all the time – my wife my parents and my friends are always there to lift me up sharing how the day was and how I am doing Madison will continue to help him stay the course Add that to this incredible person living out his childhood dream knowing how hard he has fought and will always fight to be here… it is magical to watch He's the easiest guy in the world to root for.” Calgary Flames forward Justin Kirkland will miss the remainder of the NHL season after undergoing surgery to repair an anterior cruciate ligament Huberdeau’s standout season with the Flames is matched by personal milestones including a special moms’ trip and the upcoming fatherhood Pachal has a goal and an assist in 31 games for the Flames this season share their thoughts on the legend of Shea Weber Mantha will undergo anterior cruciate ligament surgery on Thursday after getting hurt in Calgary's 3-2 overtime win against the Montreal Canadiens on Tuesday That means hitting the 1,219 currently held by former captain Jarome Iginla Backlund is on his way after reaching 1,000 For those unable to attend the KIRKLAND LAKE - A local woman facing serious charges in relation to two fires in March.  On March 2, there were two structure fires within 30 minutes in Kirkland Lake.  The first fire was on Government Road East where first responders rescued one person from an apartment complex They were brought to the hospital by ambulance with non-life-threatening injuries 37-year-old Melissa Turcotte of Kirkland Lake was charged with:  The accused remains in police custody following a bail hearing She's scheduled to appear in a Kirkland Lake court on May 15.  None of the charges have been tested in court and the accused is considered innocent unless proven guilty including the relatively new Kirkland Signature bourbon Costco introduced the Kirkland Signature bourbon in 2021 as a collaboration with the well-respected Barton 1792 brand Barton 1792 Distillery makes its whiskey in Bardstown, Kentucky, and has had a reputation for exceptional whiskey since 1879, making it the oldest fully-operating distillery in town. This puts it in the same league as the Buffalo Trace Distillery, which is a national historic landmark and the oldest continuously-operating distillery in the U.S which you might recognize as the owner of Buffalo Trace The collaboration between Costco and Barton 1792 led to three variations of Kirkland Signature bourbon whiskey including the wildly popular Kirkland Signature Single Barrel Bourbon Whiskey and a whopping 60% ABV for the single barrel Costco's partnership with Barton 1792 turned out for the best The Flames announced today that Justin Kirkland has been nominated for the Bill Masterton Memorial Trophy by the Calgary chapter of the Professional Hockey Writers Association (PHWA) The annual award goes to the National Hockey League player who best exemplifies the qualities of perseverance Calgary Chapter of the PHWA on Justin Kirkland Justin Kirkland was one of the best stories of the fall — a guy who’d refused to give up on his NHL dream with a shootout move that seldom seemed to fail Kirkland scored his first career goal at age 28 victory over the Edmonton Oilers on Hockey Night in Canada It was a well-deserved reward after spending most of the previous eight seasons in the minors and recovering from head trauma and other injuries he sustained in a motor-vehicle accident as he was driving to a game with the Anaheim Ducks in 2023 Kirkland was establishing himself as a full-timer with the Flames and was three-for-four on shootout attempts when he suffered a season-ending ACL injury in late November As he promised in a social-media post: “My path has never been a smooth one so best believe I will take this challenge head on.” The Calgary chapter of the PHWA is pleased to nominate Justin Kirkland for the 2025 Bill Masterton Memorial Trophy The Bill Masterton Memorial Trophy was first presented by the NHL Writers Association in 1968 to commemorate the late William Masterton a player for the Minnesota North Stars who exhibited 1968 after an injury sustained during a hockey game Lanny McDonald in 1983 and Gary Roberts in 1996 Costco doesn't take the quality of Kirkland Signature items for granted—even wildly popular fan-favorites can be yanked off the shelves at any time to be reformulated or repackaged and tweaked until they are perfect before being brought back Costco is also constantly developing brand-new Kirkland Signature products that easily rival the big name brands which means customers are spoiled for choice So which KS drops really have fans excited Here are seven new Kirkland Signature items fans are raving about Costco just launched the new reformulated Kirkland Signature Dried Mangoes ($11.29) and fans are thrilled "These are an amazing go to snack and although they provide minimal nutritional value other than predominantly fiber and delicious flavor," one shopper wrote in the reviews I cut the mango filets into strips and use in cold salads and hot stir fries Costco has excellent dried fruit selections and this is a stand out!" The Kirkland Signature Organic Whole Milk ($15.99) is another shelf-stable new item members are very happy with "I first saw this milk when my daughter in law bought some," one shopper wrote in the reviews "We live in Florida and bad weather causes us to lose electric throughout the year I decided to get some and I use it even when there isn't a storm because it's very convenient I haven't had to throw milk in the fridge away because it went bad since I started buying this." Shoppers absolutely love the new Kirkland Signature Organic Modena Balsamic Vinegar ($44.99 for two 33.8 oz bottles) "I have been buying balsamic vinegar for over 20 years and this is the best I have ever had It is a little thicker than most, but so delicious," one member said It's not acidic like other affordable balsamic vinegars," another agreed The Kirkland Signature Organic Coconut Water ($12.99) is another must-have item for Costco shoppers "I have had a lot of coconut water in my 60+ years of life and this is by far the best I just wish they ship it to Sitka Alaska to me when I am deployed there," one member said The Kirkland Signature Extra Fancy Mixed Nuts, Unsalted ($17.59) are a huge hit with Costco members who deeply appreciate having an unsalted version of their favorite snack Very impressed with the quality of the product," one shopper said 2025) - Kirkland Lake Discoveries (TSXV: KLDC) ("KLDC" or the "Company") is pleased to announce that it has entered into a Mining Option Agreement with Val-d'Or Mining Corporation (TSXV: VZZ) to acquire a 100% interest in the Winnie Lake and Amikougami properties KLDC has been granted an exclusive four-year option by Val-d'Or Mining Corporation to acquire the properties which are strategically located within the Abitibi Greenstone Belt and prospective for volcanogenic massive sulphide (VMS) and intrusion-related mineralization (Image 1) the Company has entered into Mining Claim Purchase Agreements with Charles Gryba (the "Gryba Transaction") and Sudeep Mathew (the "Mathew Transaction") to acquire additional claims contiguous with the Company's KL West Property around the Winnie Lake Pluton Image 1: updated KLDC Property Map with optioned ground highlighted "The acquisition of these properties enhances our strategic land position and gives us exciting targets for 2025 and beyond," commented Stefan Sklepowicz "The KL West property holds tremendous potential for gold-rich critical mineral deposits We look forward to this year's exploration programs to unlock the full potential surrounding the Winne Lake Pluton and to discover additional mineralization." She garnered 49 per cent of the votes in Oshawa with Liberal Isaac Ransom picking up 43 per cent. The NDP, which had finished second in Oshawa in recent federal elections, lost significant ground, with Sara Labelle picking up just eight per cent. This is the first time a woman has won Oshawa since the riding was created in the late 1960s. “That’s pretty exciting — it didn’t hit me until I was on my way over here tonight,” said Kirkland. “I’m just happy to, first and foremost, represent Oshawa. I don’t want to be Ottawa’s voice in Oshawa, I want to make sure Oshawa’s voice is heard in Ottawa. This is my hometown.” Born and raised in the riding, Kirkland said she’s grateful to her team and volunteers and she’s looking forward to sharing a fresh perspective. “I spent 20 years as an educational therapist, so my background is in helping families and kids and adults with learning disabilities, so I think that’s going to inform my work as an MP.” The riding had been held by Conservative Colin Carrie since 2004, with Carrie announcing his retirement just over a year ago. Although this was her first time running for an MP seat, Kirkland is no stranger to federal politics, having twice managed Carrie’s campaign and working in communications and community engagement for the longtime MP. With the Conservatives set to serve as the opposition, Kirkland said she felt it was meaningful that her party is set to add more than two dozen seats compared to the 2021 election. “I believe Oshawa workers chose to vote Conservative because of our platform, because of what we want to do to ensure workers feel secure,” she said, adding that the key worries she heard knocking on doors was that another Liberal term would perpetuate the struggles people are experiencing with affordability and housing costs. With almost all polls reporting, voter turnout sat at 63 per cent in Oshawa, compared to 56 per cent in 2021. The Oshawa riding encompasses the City of Oshawa south of Taunton Road. I always believed in myself, but I didn’t know that I’d ever get to this point. “So, to get nominated for an award like this is definitely special, and hits close to home.” Kirkland’s story helped set the underdog tone in Calgary this season when he made good on an early-season call-up by scoring his first NHL goal following a five-stop, eight-season journey through the minors. He followed up his memorable night in Edmonton on Oct. 13 by scoring on three of four shootout attempts, using the same move every time. The kid they call "Costco" was quickly becoming as popular as the store's Kirkland products.  As part of a journey that saw his previous NHL stint in Anaheim cut short by head trauma suffered in a serious car accident on the way to the rink in 2023, he was savouring all the spoils that come with it. He even got an offer from Costco to partner up on a charitable endeavour. But just as he was finally establishing himself as an NHL regular, he was dealt another cruel blow when he suffered a season-ending ACL injury in late November. “Having a taste of it, and settling into a role here, to all of sudden the season is over and that’s your new reality ... it’s definitely a lot to process,” said the Winnipeg native.  “It’s still a challenge, even right now.  “It’s been such a rollercoaster of emotions from the start of the season. Up until this point, there are still good days and still bad days. “I keep reminding myself of those good times, and that’s the continuing driving factor for me is, ‘Yeah, this is going to be a long process, but having a taste of it, that’s exactly to where I want to get back to.’” Rehabbing regularly with teammate Anthony Mantha has helped him through another arduous road back to the NHL, as has the support of his wife, parents and sister. An unrestricted free agent at season’s end, he’s hoping to re-sign in Calgary so he can pick up where he left off. “This is where I want to be, it feels like home,” he said. “My wife and I have made this our off-season home. Hopefully, something works out as I’d love to continue being a full-time Flame.” Given the nod by the Calgary chapter of the Professional Hockey Writers’ Association, Kirkland will vie for the award with nominees from the 31 other teams. Speaking of a little taste, Kirkland was recently able to make good on his day at a local Costco, which included serving up samples as part of a charitable visit. “I got the full employee experience for the day, doing everything from stocking shelves to greeting people to packing groceries and handing out samples,” he said with a laugh. “It was a lot of fun and we got to do it for a good cause, for a little donation to charity, which made it even more special.” Asked if he was recognized, he suggested the bevy of cameras following him around likely had more to do with it. “There was some recognition, which was cool — I haven’t really gone through a whole lot of that in my career," he said. "So you have fun with it, and I got to meet some great people. “I got a coupon for a free hot dog, so I will be cashing that in.” Flames’ playoff stakes too high to play Parekh just yetWolf’s consistency keeping ‘pesky’ Flames in playoff huntCOMMENTS When submitting content, please abide by our submission guidelines, and avoid posting profanity, personal attacks or harassment. chain and its in-house brand “We have something in the works,” Kirkland revealed with the same smile he’s been wearing for the past month and a half as he has emerged as one of the best feel-good stories of the NHL season so far “There will be a little something coming at some point I’m not sure exactly yet what it’s going to entail but there is a bit of back-and-forth communication We don’t mean to stick our noses in the negotiations but we do know 20-some guys who would be happy to suggest some potential perks that their pal should be angling for not the hard-working fourth-liner — around the Saddledome and you get the feeling that the majority of these dudes are signed up for the weekly flyer “I think they’ve gotta waive his lifetime membership fee,” suggested fellow Flames forward Blake Coleman “And maybe anything with Kirkland Signature “I’d say unlimited samples,” offered workhorse defenceman MacKenzie Weegar “He definitely has to get free food at the food court no?” agreed rising-star netminder Dustin Wolf who sits next to Kirkland in the Flames’ locker-room If a discount for his teammates would help to extend his NHL stay the 28-year-old journeyman is proving with his play that he deserves to spend the remainder of the season on the roster As the Flames hit the ice Monday in Ottawa a measure of who’s providing the most offensive impact relative to their icetime ‘Costco’ has also been darn-near-unstoppable in the shootout He is tied for tops in the league with three successful attempts this fall including a pair of snipes this past week on the Flames’ spotless homestand — one that clinched Tuesday’s victory over the New York Islanders and another that forced extra rounds in Saturday’s breakaway battle against the Minnesota Wild where he swings wide and ultimately fires low on the far-side Some are calling it the ‘Kirkland Signature.’ Shootout success is just another reason that it’s difficult to scratch his name from the lineup He’s now suited up for 18 of 20 games since he was called up from the AHL’s Wranglers not bad for a guy who signed a two-way contract in the summer and was rarely mentioned by fans or reporters in their pre-season roster projections An item that you didn’t know you needed that turns out to be a crowd-pleaser … How Costco is that not hesitating even a blink when asked to identify his favourite item from the snack aisles marshmallow … They’re like a cookie almost top of mind for anybody who has logged this many miles on the buses in the American Hockey League “There are still a lot of little things on a daily basis that I sit back at and I go who had previously totalled eight NHL appearances across eight professional campaigns “And that’s just extra motivation for me to keep pushing to try to solidify myself and continue to prove I belong here.” “I feel like a player like Justin has maybe the one of hardest jobs because he doesn’t have the luxury to have an off-day,” said Flames coach Ryan Huska earlier this month “Because people continually look at him and it’s maybe he’s not quite an NHL player yet’ or ‘Maybe he’s just had a really good stretch.’ “So I think it’s important that he keeps making sure that his preparation is good and he understands that he has to be an everyday guy There’s no room for him to take his foot off the gas until he’s proven himself for a full season It’s a hard job for someone like Justin who is really trying to solidify himself in the lineup but I do think he’s done a very good job with that.” There have been some pinch-me moments along the way Like hearing the roar of the home crowd after a slick shootout goal (He is three-for-four in the skills challenge a place so popular that they count 10 million members across Canada that one is a little surreal,” Kirkland said The nickname was never really a nickname before So with all the guys now and the fans and stuff like that Here's what you can save money on at Costco Costco's value (Number one is to use my favorite Costco rewards credit card.) I'm hardly the only person who uses their Costco membership to keep the family stocked up on Kirkland products The Costco house brand has a very devoted -- and very large -- fan base The eye-popping profitability of the Kirkland brand is just one of the surprising facts I uncovered in my search with a "B." The Kirkland Signature line brought in $56 billion in sales last year which amounts to about 23% of Costco's overall sales While that number is small compared to Costco as a whole if Kirkland Signature were a standalone company Bath tissue sales account for a whopping $1.4 billion of that $56 billion in Kirkland Signature products Costco sells more than $1 billion worth of toilet paper every year this means Costco sold roughly 64.1 million packages that amounts to roughly 3,275 square miles of toilet paper or enough to cover the entire state of Delaware 1.3 times.) You can also use our credit card rewards strategy to earn even more cash back on your Costco purchases Although it can seem like Costco has a Kirkland Signature version of pretty much everything the product line is actually fairly small compared to the warehouse giant's overall inventory Fortune also says there are around 550 different Kirkland Signature items Costco is said to carry around 3,800 different products overall so the Kirkland line makes up just 15% of the product SKUs sold at Costco Having a limited lineup of goods isn't an accident -- it's entirely by design Costco's bigwigs have said repeatedly over the years that the company wants to focus on the quality of its Kirkland line Costco's Chief Operating Officer for Merchandising "We're not looking to win a trophy for the highest amount of Kirkland Signature SKUs." Adamo continued To help ensure the Kirkland Signature brand stays true to that high-quality directive every product has to have the go-ahead at the highest level that means approval from the CEO: "We don't just put our name on products that someone else makes Any new item goes all the way to the CEO's office for sign-off." You can't win them all (we're looking at you But ensuring the Kirkland brand keeps quality at the forefront is a big reason why Costco fans are so devoted to the Kirkland line -- and to Costco itself even when you shop at Costco.Add on the competitive 0% interest period and it's no wonder we awarded this card Best No Annual Fee Credit Card All market data (will open in new tab) is provided by Barchart Solutions Information is provided 'as is' and solely for informational purposes, not for trading purposes or advice. And we have not yet been successful in trying to find something in that category that we've really been able to stay with and continue to grow," said Vachris Consumers are often tempted to buy electronics at Costco not only because of the company’s competitive prices but also due to its generous return policy It’s common for retailers to impose a 30-day limit on returns for electronics purchases like TVs and laptops come with a 90-day return window Costco also offers free tech support on electronics purchases and many items come with an added warranty Expanding into electronics could really propel the Kirkland brand and drive revenue for Costco And it could also give members a wider range of affordable priced electronics to choose from But Vachris has good news for consumers who are hoping to one day bring home a 100-inch Kirkland TV "We're not going to give up on it," he said Once Costco finds a way to produce high-quality electronics at a price that offers a notable discount from national brands members can bet on seeing those items start to pop up in their local warehouse club stores.  Want TheStreet’s best daily stock and investing news right in your inbox every weekday Sign up today for our free newsletter and you'll receive an exclusive report explaining hedge fund guru Doug Kass' winning investment style This website is using a security service to protect itself from online attacks The action you just performed triggered the security solution There are several actions that could trigger this block including submitting a certain word or phrase You can email the site owner to let them know you were blocked Please include what you were doing when this page came up and the Cloudflare Ray ID found at the bottom of this page KIRKLAND LAKE - Two separate fires within 30 minutes are being investigated by police.  Kirkland Lake OPP responded to two structure fires from 8-8:30 p.m.  The investigation includes the Kirkland Lake OPP crime unit the North East Region OPP forensic identification service Police are asking residents and business owners to check their security camera footage from March 2 Anyone with information about the fires should call OPP at 1-888-310-1122 05-02-2025MARKETING INNOVATION It’s hard to find another single brand that has been so successful in such a dizzying array of categories BY Rob Walker Branded is a weekly column devoted to the intersection of marketing Costco has been on a good run lately. The beloved big-box club chain has been winning new fans for its no-nonsense stand on continuing its DEI policies, with comparable store sales up 6.8% in its most recent quarter which includes everything from underwear to frozen pizza has long been the discount club’s not-so-secret weapon Kirkland marks its 30th anniversary this year and in what’s shaping up to be a challenging economy for consumers across the board it’s poised to become more important than ever Kirkland-branded products (excluding gas) already account for nearly a quarter of Costco sales—some $56 billion in its fiscal year that ended September 1 That makes Kirkland bigger by revenue than Nike ($51 billion last year) or Netflix ($39 billion) it competes with brand-name consumer products largely on price—an obvious advantage in belt-tightening times But Kirkland is also the rare private label that’s developed its own powerful but over time the company became concerned with rising prices sometimes even when underlying commodity prices were going the other way So it decided to jump on the then-burgeoning trend of creating lower-priced house-brand alternatives it followed the practice of Sears and other major players of that era who created multiple distinct private brands for different categories But ultimately this struck management as confusing: Consumers couldn’t be expected to associate dozens of newly invented brand names with Costco Kirkland Signature—first used on vitamins and shampoo in 1995—was named after the Seattle suburb where Costco was based at the time The biggest-selling Kirkland products tend to be staples like toilet paper, paper towels, and bottled water. But as the label has developed a quality reputation, Costco has gradually become more and more adventurous about where the brand can go, and there are now an estimated 500-plus Kirkland-branded products from high-end liquor to aluminum foil to sushi It’s hard to think of any other single brand successfully competing in such a dizzying array of categories Meanwhile, the discounter’s core strategy of limiting choices in each category and generally offering far fewer SKUs (stock-keeping units) than most big-box stores ended up making Kirkland even more potent. A few years ago, according to The Wall Street Journal Costco decided Kirkland would become one of its two diaper offerings—meaning either Huggies or Pampers had to go Costco and Huggies-maker Kimberly-Clark made a deal to manufacture the Kirkland diapers; Huggies stayed (Costco later switched to another manufacturer Speculating about which big brands actually make Kirkland products—are its apparent dupes of a popular pair of Lululemon pants actually made by Lululemon?—is a Costco-fan pastime Costco generally doesn’t comment (and did not respond to an inquiry from Fast Company) but it’s widely accepted that Starbucks supplies some Kirkland coffee Traditional brands continue to outsell private label alternatives by a wide margin and others still have multiple private labels but direct Costco rival Sam’s Club has moved to a similar model built around its Member’s Mark cross-category house brand.)  And Costco has reiterated that it believes it can continue to grow private-label sales While it’s not yet clear what the full fallout of the Trump administration’s nascent and ever-changing trade war policies will look like, it’s a safe bet that shoppers are going to become increasingly price-sensitive this year; the Conference Board’s “expectations” index of forward-looking consumer sentiment has plunged That means more interest in lower-cost private labels in general—but maybe especially for a private label with a quality reputation It may not be as attention-grabbing as a $1.50 hot dog but Kirkland Signature seems positioned to become more popular than ever The final deadline for Fast Company’s Brands That Matter Awards is Friday, May 30, at 11:59 p.m. PT. Justin Kirkland probably figured his popularity had peaked Article contentBut as part of a promotional shoot with a charitable plus the injured forward was recently treated to the employee-for-a-day experience at one of Calgary’s Costco locations it’s sweet to be mobbed by 19 teammates after scoring a shootout winner but you should see the crowd that forms when you’re serving up those freebie food samples “I did take a few samples while I was there,” beamed Kirkland who was apparently going with the one-for-you that has fuelled Kirkland through his ongoing rehab from season-ending knee surgery The 28-year-old has not been on skates since late November He’ll tell you there have been good days and bad days along the way It’s honestly a miracle he survived the near death car accident, let alone fight his way back to the NHL.. it’s hard to put into words his daily determination. He’s a fighter beyond belief. The surgeon said if the 14 breaks in his nose was 2mm closer to his brain he would’ve been… https://t.co/aoJ97QOpZC pic.twitter.com/RTA301Q0in with the announcement that Kirkland is the Flames’ team nominee for the Bill Masterton Memorial Trophy an annual nod to the NHLer “who best exemplifies the qualities of perseverance sportsmanship and dedication to hockey.” The selection was made by the Calgary chapter of the Professional Hockey Writers Association “And then I had the time to sit down and reflect but I didn’t know that I would ever get to this point So to be nominated for an award like this is definitely special and hits close to home.” Kirkland was recovering from a motor-vehicle accident that he initially feared could cut his career short That’s far from the only reason that he immediately comes to mind when words like ‘perseverance’ and ‘dedication’ are being tossed around Kirkland toiled for most of the past eight seasons in the minors He was supposed to start this current campaign with the AHL’s Wranglers had even cleared waivers and been assigned to the farm team but was called up after one of the regulars was injured on opening night He introduced himself by scoring his first big-league goal in an Oct He had logged 21 appearances before ripping up his knee more than tripling the total on his NHL resumé and was establishing himself as an every-nighter for the Flames Fans couldn’t get enough of his story or his shootout move which was successful on three of four fall tries ‘Costco,’ which helps to explain why you may have spotted him greeting shoppers boxing groceries and scarfing samples at the Heritage Gate location in late March (The store rewarded his efforts with a $5,000 donation on his behalf to the Stroke Recovery Association of Calgary.) Kirkland is pleased to report that he’s “right on track” in his rehab although that doesn’t make it any easier to be stuck spectating as the Flames continue to scrap for a wild-card spot “It’s been such a rollercoaster of emotions from right at the start of the season up until this point,” said Kirkland the rest of his family and teammate Anthony Mantha — also working his way back from an ACL injury — to keep his spirits high “Having the taste of it and kind of settling into a nice role here to all of a sudden the season is over and that’s your new reality … It’s definitely a lot to take in and a lot to process “I keep reminding myself of those good times and that’s the continuing driving factor for me — ‘Yeah this is going to be a long process but having that taste of it that’s exactly where I want to get back to.’ ” One of the off-season questions at the Saddledome will be whether the Flames should bring back Kirkland who is set to be an unrestricted free agent this summer and might finally be in a position to command a one-way deal he doesn’t fit Craig Conroy’s target age range for future building-blocks but there is certainly a strong case to keep Kirkland around especially since he will be fully healthy for the start of the 2025-26 slate He’s effective in a fourth-line role but can be bumped up in a pinch He has a relentless work ethic and resilience in his DNA His Masterton Trophy nomination is further proof of that Now in his second stint with the Flames organization having skated for three seasons with the Stockton Heat “This is where I want to be,” said Kirkland raised a few hours to the north in Camrose My wife and I have made this our off-season home Being with the organization in previous years and then coming back here “We’ll see what happens … Hopefully something works out The Town of Kirkland Lake is looking to develop a formalized system to officially recognize members of the community who contribute or have contributed to the pride of the town through their actions We apologize, but this video has failed to load.Try refreshing your browser, ortap here to see other videos from our team.Play VideoArticle contentMayor Stacy Wight introduced a motion that was approved during the April 15 council meeting. Wight said, “So, this is really something that is not uncommon throughout the province of Ontario. Many municipalities give civic awards to their community members. We don’t have an official pathway to getting recognition to our community members.” She noted currently the town does give out certificates, by request, for things such as milestone birthdays, or anniversaries. Wight said, “It would be really lovely to give documentation to the members of this community that bring such pride to K.L. with an official acknowledgement.” Coun. Rick Owen seconded the mayor’s motion. He said, “Right off the top of my head, I can think of two geologists that changed the whole prosperity and direction of the Kirkland Lake camp. “I can think of a prospector that has promoted the heritage of this community beyond what anybody would expect. There are so many people I can think of, and they have just done it for the good of the community; or they have done it because they are professionally sharp, and they found what they had to find.” Owen also suggested this recognition would be from the community, as a whole, not just council. He said, “We appreciate you. You did something really special. Trust me, seniors that have been here all their lives and have never been recognized. It really means something, and I think it’s important for Kirkland Lake to follow this direction and I thank the mayor for bringing this motion.” Coun. Janice Ranger asked, “Could this not be in partnership with the chamber (Kirkland Lake District Chamber of Commerce) because they do have their annual recognition? Is that what we may be looking at here?” Wight said, “So, yes, definitely. There are many municipalities that do awards ceremonies during the yearly galas of their chambers of commerce. So, this isn’t something that we have to do ourselves, but we can, if need be. “However as per the motion, this is just to give the CAO (chief administrative officer) direction to investigate best practices. So definitely that would be one of the avenues to investigate.” The mayor noted this recognition is not meant to replace any of the existing awards that are out within the community. Wight said, “We often, at this table, myself and fellow members of council acknowledge, hard work and dedication and actions that brought Kirkland Lake pride, even former members of the Kirkland Lake community.” She also asked out loud if this would become so popular that they recognize people on a more regular basis, rather than just once a year. Those are just some of the questions that will be investigated by CAO Alan Smith.
