There is one alleged reason that explains why the New England Patriots gave him away
This offseason saw both of the Dallas backup quarterbacks leave in free agency, with Cooper Rush singing with the Baltimore Ravens and Trey Lance getting an opportunity with the Los Angeles Chargers
Before those departures - but in conjunction with them - Jerry Jones' Cowboys agreed to a trade with the Patriots to land QB Joe Milton III
the team's potential backup for this season behind Dak Prescott
Dallas also received a seventh-round pick in the 2025 NFL Draft (who turned into UCLA DT Jay Toia) in exchange for a fifth rounder (who turned into LSU OG Miles Frazier) sent to New England
reports are coming out that paint an ugly picture on Milton's rookie year in Foxboro last season
It also may explain the reasoning for his quick sendoff
Milton did not make many friends inside the Patriots building
"Joe Milton - and this is a direct quote from someone in the organization - is not a good dude," Bedard said on his podcast.
“Knowing your role, playing your role, being part of a harmonious quarterback room — that was going to be an issue. It wasn’t about Drake Maye
was also a rookie quarterback with New England last season after being the No
Maye started in 12 of the 13 games he played last season
We do know that Milton thought he should be allowed to compete with Maye
who threw for over 2,000 yards and had 15 touchdowns
while Milton was limited to just one game of action ..
We also know that the Pats as an organization wanted to clear a path for Maye to develop
and and veteran signee Josh Dobbs - not a threat to that - was brought aboard
Was Maye feeling pressure from Milton after his solid one-game showing in Week 17?
We're sure the Pats would probably say that's not fair
given new Dallas coach Brian Schottenheimer’s vigorous push for character
we assume the Cowboys did their homework here
“I like being me,” Milton said upon his DFW arrival
You’ll always see me smiling for one
and I’m always going to enjoy my teammates to the best that I can
being able to learn my teammates and get to explore and experience different things with them.”
“Anybody that’s played with me or been in that quarterback room knows that all I care about is everybody pushing everybody and getting better,” Dak said recently
“I’m excited to add Joe to the room …”
Is Milton - with his 6-5 frame and his mobility and his "Bazooka Joe'' arm but so little on-the-field polish - a "bad guy''?
We're sure the Cowboys would probably say that's not fair

Elections Canada’s results indicate that Tesser Derksen received 32,130 votes
while Gill received 32,101 votes — a difference of 29 votes
Tesser Derksen said the week has been an emotional “rollercoaster” with some lows and highs
but “the highs are cautious,” she said
“We’re only 29 votes ahead,” she added
noting that there will be an automatic judicial recount
We’re happy with some guarded optimism.”
The Liberals’ minority government is now back up to 169 seats
Gill did not respond to a request for comment by publication
the Liberal party was poised to lose to the official opposition Conservative party
but the comeback is nothing short of “remarkable,” Tesser Derksen said
“Mark Carney is just the right person for the right time and Canadians are smart
they recognized what they needed now to address these concerns (of threats from the U.S.)
and they elected the right person,” she said
she said she will make affordability and housing her top priorities
who was a Milton city councillor from 2010 to 2022
sat with Tesser Derksen on Milton Town Council for five years
and said he’s happy “Kristina is now MP-elect.”
“Her connection to Milton has always been strong,” he said
there is still an official recount that will occur so the final verdict still needs to be confirmed
I think she would be a great MP for Milton,” he said
Di Lorenzo said he feels that using paper ballots federally versus the provincial computerized system has its downsides — a computerized system is better as it reduces human error
Elections Canada spokesperson Matthew McKenna said the validation process involves a returning officer examining the record of votes counted at polling stations to catch and correct any data entry or calculation errors in a riding
A recount happens automatically if the difference in votes between the first- and second-place candidates is within one one-thousandth of the total number of votes received
Monday’s election revealed a 905-belt blue wave that was isolated to parts of the region but strong enough to help deny Carney’s Liberals a majority government
and to give them concern for the next federal election that
Tesser Derksen keenly watched the GTA results roll in
and said all elected people should “take note and listen,” as segments of the population that normally Liberals could count on — specifically young people — sent a message that their voices aren’t being heard
“These concerns are coming forward; they want to have a prosperous future
they want to have that promise of the Canadian dream that my parents and I had and it seems a little out of reach for them right now,” she said
“It’s not necessarily a message against the the Liberal party
it’s a message that ‘government please listen
and we’re going to send that message with our votes.’”

Ward 1 Milton councillor Kristina Tesser Derksen won the Milton East—Halton Hills South riding for the Liberals in the April 28 election following a validation process
a former Doug Ford cabinet minister and MPP for Milton and a former federal MP for Brampton
Tesser Derksen's slim 29-vote lead after validation would seem to launch an automatic recount
Tesser Derksen’s slim 29-vote lead after validation would seem to launch an automatic recount
Liberal candidate Kristina Tesser Derksen is now on top in the close race for Milton East—Halton Hills South riding from the April 28 federal election
Elections Canada now has Derksen with 32,130 votes (48.3 per cent of the votes)
29 ahead of Conservative challenger Parm Gill with 32,101 (48.2 per cent)
This according to Elections Canada on its website is after results were “validated by the returning officer.” The validation date is listed as May 2
This differs from unofficial election results posted the day after the election with all polls reporting
Those unofficial results had Gill ahead by 298 votes
with 32,186 votes (48.4 per cent) to Derksen’s 31,888 (48 per cent)
Elections Canada, on its website, explains its validation of results:
“The validation of results typically happens within a week following election day. During validation, the returning officer reviews the information from the statement of the vote for each polling location in their riding and compares it with the information that was entered on election night into the system used to report the preliminary results on elections.ca
“Since the local Elections Canada office gets the results from each polling location by phone before entering them into the system
human error can happen during the reporting process
if staff at the Elections Canada office misheard a result that was called in or made a mistake entering the data into the system.”
“enables the returning officer to find and correct any errors that may have been made.”
validation involves checking the official records from each individual polling station and correcting any errors made during the transmission of results on a busy election night.”
Elections Canada said “once the results are validated
unless changes are made following a judicial recount or a contested election proceeding.”
“A judicial recount must take place if the difference between the number of votes cast for the candidate with the most votes and the number of votes cast for any other candidate is less than one one-thousandth (1/1000) of the valid votes cast,” explains Elections Canada

Milton council heard details this week about a proposed subdivision that would add 324 new homes to the northwest corner of Britannia Road and Bronte Street
The development plan includes 116 single-detached homes
Another 43 townhouse units are expected to be added later
once a series of narrow “sliver” parcels are consolidated with the main subdivision lands
A planner representing the applicant told council members at Monday’s night meeting that the zoning amendment would bring these thin strips of land — currently owned by a neighbouring developer — into alignment with the adjacent Shadybrook Development Inc
The plan also identifies a conceptual “major node block,” which could include a mix of townhomes and three eight-storey residential buildings — with approximately 115
The centre of that block appears to have a small green area
Planner Karen Bennett explained that the green area in the conceptual plan is “likely a little park.”
Ali noted the importance of keeping it that way

Liberal Leader Mark Carney triggered the election on March 22 after serving as prime minister for just over a week
he has positioned himself as the best person to take on U.S

A lot has changed since Mitsumasa Nishimura’s first time in Milton
With his 1977-78 stay with two local families as a Rotary exchange student making such a meaningful impact
the now seaweed processing company owner from Japan was certainly keen for a trip down memory lane
So when a business trip to the Maritimes came up
Nishimura was all too eager to include a visit to Milton in his overseas excursion
That was enjoyed earlier this week with wife Yuka
The couple was met with an ever-growing municipality that – by comparison – was just a sleepy town when he lived and studied here
was still two years away from holding that mantle
while farmland was still a common sight and traffic lights were much fewer and farther between during treks around Milton
The visit was highlighted by a trip to Town Hall by longtime Rotarians Carolyn Keyworth and Ries Boers
There Nishimura and his wife met Krantz and even tried his mayor’s office chair out for size
Even more emotional was a reunion with JoAnne Clement and Gordon Thompson
children of his two separate host parents and outbound exchange students themselves
he (Mitsumasa) said the town had grown but the people hadn’t changed

It's tough to figure what held a tighter grip on Parm Gill early this morning -- elation or exhaustion
In what gave new meaning to the term nail-biter
the former Conservative MPP -- who resigned his post last year to run in the new federal riding of Milton East-Halton Hills South -- was no doubt running on fumes as the final results trickled in to cement his victory over Liberal Kristina Tesser Derksen
With all but one of the 201 polls showing shortly after 3 a.m.
he gained a 556-vote lead -- which was a whole lot slimmer for much of the energy-draining night
Tesser Derksen held a couple of razor-thin
results from the final poll have finally come in
with Gill ultimately securing 32,186 votes (48.43 per cent)
and Tesser Derksen earning 31,888 votes (47.98 per cent)
The new MP did not attend his election gathering at Keenan’s Irish Pub last night amidst the too-close-for-comfort results
A member of his campaign team asked supporters to go home shortly before 1 a.m
Gill took to Facebook this morning to thank Milton East-Halton Hills South residents for voting for him
"It’s an absolute honour to be elected as your Member of Parliament
I look forward to being a strong voice in Ottawa for our community," he wrote
In the wee hours of election night, Tesser Derksen – a two-term town councillor who’s relatively new to partisan politics – said the differences in the municipalities that comprise the new riding no doubt contributed to the close race
"With the redistribution we brought in two communities
We've got Milton East and we've got Georgetown
We kind of have this tension between the two communities
I think it's what is contributing to the tightness," Tesser Derksen said shortly after 1 a.m
as her election gathering at Ned Devine's pub wound down
"We're in the middle of a roller coaster ride

The annual Canada Day celebration held at the Milton Fairgrounds will not be happening in 2025
The organizer said they have seen a decline in resources and volunteers for the event
The Halton Agricultural Society will revisit the decision to host the event next year
A Milton tradition with 45 years of history is coming to an end
The Halton Agricultural Society announced on April 4 that the annual Canada Day celebration and fireworks held at the Milton Fairgrounds will not be occurring this year
The organizer of the event said the decision was made due to a lack of resources and volunteers
For decades, the event included rides, music and animals and was capped off with a fireworks display
as well as reduced voluntary donations at the gates
the event has still been operating at a significant loss over the last few years
we do not have enough volunteers to safely and effectively execute an event that sees the Fairgrounds host over 10,000 people throughout the day,” said the society in a statement posted to their website
The Milton fairgrounds will be closed to the public on July 1
The Canada Day event was supported by the Town of Milton and other community partners who historically provided some financial and in-kind support
The Veteran’s Breakfast will be run this year by the Knights of Columbus in Victoria Park on Canada Day
“We have been facing a decline in volunteers and resources over the past few years
Due to the operational capacity and low membership of our small Society
it is no longer feasible to continue to safely execute such a large-scale event
This has not been an easy decision,” said the release
The Society said they will revisit the decision to host the Canada Day event in 2026
