While both Ottawa and Minnesota wound up with 44 points, the Charge had 12 regulation-time victories, the same as Montreal and the second-place Toronto Sceptres.
The Frost won just 10 games in regulation.
The Toronto-Minnesota series starts Wednesday.
Montreal won four of six meetings with Ottawa this season, including a 4-3 shootout victory on opening night in November at Place Bell.
But the Charge won the last two clashes — by scores of 3-1 on Feb. 22 and 3-2 on April 30 — both of which were at TD Place.
The Victoire won four of six games against the Frost.
Montreal did have some sound logic on its side when choosing its first-round opponent.
Last season, Toronto finished atop the regular-season standings and picked Minnesota, which snuck into the playoffs as the fourth-place finisher.
Not only did Minnesota eliminate Toronto, but it also went on to capture the Walter Cup.
By choosing Ottawa, Montreal is also electing a two-hour drive over a two-hour flight for its road playoff games.

the Canadiens have been going into the NHL Draft Lottery with the hopes of snagging the first-overall pick
but things look a little different this year for the Habs
the Canadiens won the lottery in 2022 and made forward Juraj Slafkovsky the No
1 selection at the draft in Montreal that summer
Although Lady Luck didn’t grace the team with the top pick in 2023 or 2024
the Habs still clinched the fifth overall picks in both of those years
helping them nab defenseman David Reinbacher and forward Ivan Demidov
Fast-forward to 2025: With Montreal competing in the postseason dance
the Club’s own first-round pick became ineligible for the draft lottery since only non-playoff teams can participate
which barely missed the playoffs this year
had traded away their 2025 first-round pick to the Canadiens in the Sean Monahan deal in 2022..
here are a few reminders about how the draft lottery works:
Let's take a look at the odds all 16 teams hold to win the first of two draws:
Draft lottery participants (odds from highest to lowest)
Source: NHL.com
the Flames/Canadiens have a mere 0.5% chance of winning the first lottery (i.e
the Flames attached certain conditions to the first-rounder they included in the deal
Some of those terms include the following:
Given how slim the odds are that Calgary leapfrogs into the top 10
chances are the Habs will receive Calgary’s pick at 16
Habs brass also have their own first-round pick at 17
Montreal has 12 picks in the upcoming 2025 Upper Deck NHL Draft
MONTREAL – After the players wrapped up their seasons Friday at the CN Sports Complex
it was management’s turn to do the same on Monday
Kent Hughes and Jeff Gorton spoke to reporters at the Bell Centre to reflect on the 2024-25 campaign and
share some insight into their plans for the summer ahead
The Canadiens general manager and executive vice president of hockey operations also touched on individual player performances
the organization’s rich prospect pipeline in Laval
and their evaluations of Habs head coach Martin St-Louis and Rocket bench boss Pascal Vincent
Here are some highlights from Hughes and Gorton’s end-of-season media op
Please note questions and answers have been modified for clarity and conciseness
do you feel the need to replace them with experienced veterans
or do you see an opportunity for younger players to step up and fill those roles
we’ve informed them all that we need to meet and make those decisions – no decisions have been made at this time
I’ve mentioned it before: when you’re in a rebuild
you’re constantly balancing the present with the future
we don’t want to put restraints on our younger players
We’re continuing to build toward something
our goal is to build a team capable of competing for the Stanley Cup for an extended period
how much does that become a stepping stone
JG: I don't think it's fast forwarding anything
We've come in here with a plan of what we want to do to rebuild this team
and I think it's certainly helpful in a lot of ways: the experience of it for our players and maybe showing the rest of the league what it could be like to play here
There’s a lot of benefits from what the players were able to do this season
It's been a fun year for everybody to be part of and we're going to use it to as a huge stepping stone to where we're going
KH: My experience representing players [as an agent] was that players come into the league
Their first objective is to prove to themselves that they belong
And I think when you have the good fortune of living through the playoffs and chasing winning a Stanley Cup one day
I think that really helps young players take more and more ownership of the team
our hope is that that will be the case here
Everybody is referencing the balance between youth and experience
Where are the other areas where you feel you need to balance things out
What are key priorities in terms of adding balance that would enable you to reach your goal
We're not a finished product and there's not one area of our team where we're saying
we'll continue to look at everything and try to build it out
Everyone's talking about size and Washington and the way they played — we’re certainly aware of that
Kent and I have a lot of discussions about it
compete is the biggest thing: making sure that we have players that are comfortable in a playoff environment and able to play in all situations
There's really nothing we won't look at to improve the team
What’s the next step in moving from a borderline playoff team to becoming a consistent playoff team
leadership and continuing to add to the team
There are certain things we can and can’t say today
because we don’t want to reveal our plan to the 31 other teams
there’s no doubt we want to add more talent to our team
and we need to determine to what extent we want to add experience versus gain experience [with the players we have]
JG: Obviously he’s had two really tough years and two tough injuries here
so we're going to have to see how he responds this summer to the rehab and going through this again
There's certainly a place for him in our lineup; it's going to be up to him to decide where that's going to be
I think a lot is in the balance of how his summer goes
is just going to be what kind of summer he has and what kind of start he has to camp
He's going to need a big camp to get himself going and get started early
Does signing Lane Hutson sooner than later become a priority
I noticed Lane mentioned he’d like to sign a contract sooner than later
I think it’s important to have that conversation and know what’s important for Lane
we’ll see if we can come to an agreement on terms
Your head coach was named a finalist for the Jack Adams Award
and during the time when you were playing meaningful games
KH: I think Martin and his staff as a whole did an excellent job this year
What we saw from Martin in November — his ability to get his team respond — shouldn’t surprise anybody that knew him as a player
because that’s how he played his entire career
[…] But I would imagine it’s even harder as a coach than as a player
you only need to take care of your own job
you need 23 players to help you prove yourself
Making adjustments and improving [when you’re under the microscope every day] isn’t easy
Montreal Canadiens general manager Kent Hughes came to the defence of winger Patrik Laine during his season-ending news conference on Monday.
Laine had an up-and-down first season with the Canadiens after being acquired from the Columbus Blue Jackets in the off-season. He missed the team's final three playoff games after suffering a broken finger in Game 2 against the Washington Capitals.
"We're not in the playoffs without Patrik Laine," Hughes said while speaking in French Monday
« On n'est pas en séries sans Patrik Laine
Laine had one assist and was minus-2 in two playoff games after posting 20 goals and 33 points in 52 games during his first season with the Canadiens
The 27-year-old winger will enter the final year of his contract in 2025-26
carrying a team-high cap hit of $8.7 million among active players
He has a 10-team no-trade list as part of the deal.
Montreal sent defenceman Jordan Harris to Columbus for Laine and a 2026 second-round pick in August
He appeared in 18 games during the 2023-24 season due to injury and spent time in the NHL/NHLPA Players Assistance Program.
The Canadiens don't plan on wasting any time when it comes to extending rookie sensation Lane Hutson
Hughes said Monday the Canadiens will be speaking with Hutson's regarding a contract extension this off-season
The Calder Trophy finalist is eligible to sign an extension as of July 1.
The 21-year-old defenceman had six goals and 66 points in 82 games this season
He added five assists in five playoff games.
Selected 62nd overall by the Canadiens in the 2022 NHL Draft
Hutson appeared in two games last season to burn the first year of his entry-level contract.

MONTREAL - CF Montreal’s search for their first Major League Soccer win continues as Mikael Uhre’s late goal lifted the Philadelphia Union to a 2-1 victory at Stade Saputo on Saturday night
Giacomo Vrioni scored Montreal’s (0-8-3) first goal of the season at Stade Saputo
while Indiana Vassilev added Philadelphia's (7-3-1) other goal
It took Philadelphia just 73 seconds to open the scoring with a slick counterattack that rapidly cut through the host's right side
Vassilev capped it off with a shot into the top right corner that overpowered Jonathan Sirois’ outstretched hand
The other two games ended in a scoreless draw
Montreal’s best opportunity of the half came when a cross from Tom Pearce was deflected on goal by Francis Westfield and through Andre Blake’s legs
a slight deflection of Blake’s right foot sent the ball skimming by the post and out
A low cross from Dante Sealy sowed chaos in the penalty area and — after several defensive errors — fell to Vrioni who was alone in front of goal and made no mistake
Montreal carried that momentum into the second half
immediately forcing Philadelphia into a defensive block with Sealy acting as the main catalyst on the right wing
Philadelphia would find their winner in the 84th minute against the run of play
Uhre found space in behind the Montreal central defenders and got on the end of a perfect pass from Jovan Lukic
making no mistake as he slipped the ball past Sirois
Philadelphia: Host Indy Eleven on Wednesday in first round of U.S
This report by The Canadian Press was first published May 3
Mikael Uhre played the role of super substitute
scoring with six minutes left as Philadelphia Union continued its winning streak with a 2-1 road win at CF Montreal
Philadelphia Union pushed its winning streak to three with goals on both ends of the contest north of the border
Midfielder Indiana Vassilev notched his first goal as a member of the Union
capping off a darting run from Danley to score 80 seconds into the contest
After CF Montreal leveled the match right before the halftime whistle
Uhre broke the deadlock in the 84th minute
timing his run perfectly to slot home a pass from Jovan Lukic
Saturday's match against C.F. Montreal marked the team's first of three this week alone, and Head Coach Bradley Carnell unsurprisingly leaned on team while crafting his starting XI.
In recent matches, Carnell's been rotating Tai Baribo, Bruno Damiani, and Mikael Uhre into his opening attacking duo, but on this occasion, opted to add 24-year-old Chris Donovan to the mix. The forward from the Philadelphia suburbs started alongside Tai Baribo, who featured in the first XI for a second straight match.
In the midfield, Jovan Lukic returned to the starting group after missing the team's 3-0 win against Atlanta United due to red card suspension, joining Indiana Vassilec, Quinn Sullivan, and Danley Jean Jacques in the midfield.
Another change came in the backline, as Olwethu Makhanya made the start at centerback alongside Jakob Glesnes while Frankie Westfield and Kai Wagner manned the outside back spots.
On the bench, Oliver Semmle occupied the back up keeper role while Andrew Rick traveled to Chattanooga with Union II. Alongside him on the sidelines to start the match sat Cavan Sullivan, Jesus Bueno, Mikael Uhre, Alejandro Bedoya, Jeremy Rafanello, Olivier Mbaizo, Bruno Damiani, and Nathan Harriel.
2', Electric early lead | Two minutes after first kick, Philadelphia Union claimed an early lead in energizing fashion with a goal from Indiana Vassilev.
45+, Montreal equalizes | Two minutes were added to the end of the second half and just as the referee looked like he'd ring out his whistle the hosts found the tying goal. Giacomo Vrioni notched the equalizer as the ball bounced around the six-yard box before going to the forward at the far post for the quick finish.
55', Union change | Carnell made the first change of the match in the 55th minute, swapping Chris Donovan for 23-year-old club-record signing Bruno Damiani.
74', Union subs | Carnell opted to make a change with 15 minutes left, subbing in Mikael Uhre and Nathan Harriel for Tai Baribo and Indiana Vassilev.
84', Uhre scores game-winner | The changed proved to be ge a big one as the Boys in Blue forced a turnover in the offensive third and quickly got to work. Jovan Lukic flicked a pass forward to Uhre who was in on goal. With just the keeper to beat, Uhre calmly flicked it past him for the match winner.
The 2025 schedule has been released and now is the perfect time to lock in the best seats for all the key matchups at Subaru Park!

who entered as a second-half substitute with just over 15 minutes remaining
scored his second goal of the season for the Union (7-3-1
3 points) snapped a three-match goalless streak in MLS play
but has lost back-to-back outings in the league campaign
Uhre's goal came after Jovan Lukic dispossessed Montreal's Mahala Opuku with Montreal looking to advance the ball forward
Lukic's inch-perfect pass found Uhre, whose attempt came off the hands of CF Montreal goalkeeper Jonathan Sirois (two saves) and into the back of the net to make it 2-1
Philadelphia opened the scoring in the second minute through Indiana Vassilev, who received a pass from Danley Jean Jacques just outside the scoring area and struck it first-time past Sirois for a 1-0 lead
It was Vassilev's first goal of the season
Montreal, though, pulled level just before the halftime break as a Dante Sealy pass into the box found its way through a host of bodies, deflected off a Union player, and found the feet of Giacomo Vrioni
The Albanian international's close-range shot then beat Union goalkeeper Andre Blake (two saves) to make it 1-1
It was Vrioni's first goal of the MLS season and his second in as many matches across all competitions
Montreal had control of the match for most of the second half as it sought to pull ahead
it saw a possible foul in the box against the Union ruled to not be a penalty
a call eventually confirmed after a VAR check
But the Union ultimately came out in front as Uhre's goal proved to be the winner
Philadelphia has outscored its opponents 7-1 during its win streak
Mikael Uhre scored the eventual match-winning goal in the 84th minute as the visiting Philadelphia Union defeated CF Montreal 2-1 on Saturday night

Quebec's largest city has long been plagued by these craters
By Alexandre Lepoutre
ALEXANDRE LEPOUTRE/ LE MONDE Driving in Montreal requires dexterity in all seasons: navigating snowy and slippery roads during winter storms; staying alert to weave through potholes as spring arrives
a short journey can quickly become an obstacle course
motorists face the same reality: Winter packs away its enchanting scenery and leaves behind a desolate landscape
The melting snow reveals battered roads where craters abound
There can be dozens of them on a single street
A moment of inattention can quickly lead to car damage
These potholes are a source of frustration for Montrealers and spark heated debate on a daily basis
The city confirmed it has received more than 4,000 complaints since the beginning of 2025
where many drivers post photos of craters obstructing their paths
Some describe Montreal's streets as a "battlefield," while others even go as far as comparing them to "a third-world country."
These potholes are mainly caused by weather conditions
namely the repeated cycles of freezing and thawing
increasing the volume and causing the whole thing to explode," explained Alan Carter
a professor of construction engineering at the Higher School of Technology
Climate change also amplifies the number of freeze-thaw cycles
"We will inevitably have more and more potholes," admitted Carter
who noted that Montreal has previously been unofficially dubbed the "pothole capital of the world."

Montreal was once a hotbed for mixed martial arts
it has been a whopping 10 years since the UFC last held an event in the city
That streak will end this weekend with UFC 315 presented by Skilled Trades College
which will feature not one but two championship matchups
plus some of the best Canadian fighters on the roster
Saturday’s anticipated card is just the fourth UFC event to take place in Canada this decade
Mixed martial arts legend Georges St-Pierre was often the headliner on Montreal fight cards in the past
going 4-0 in front of the Quebec crowd between 2008 and 2013 and defending his welterweight title there on multiple occasions
the title St-Pierre once held when he ruled over the 170-pound division will be on the line in the main event
Here are some key questions and all you need to know ahead of UFC 315
HAS MONTREAL EVER HAD TWO TITLE FIGHTS ON ONE CARD
Saturday will be the first time a UFC card in Montreal has featured multiple championship bouts
UFC 315 is headlined by current welterweight champ Belal Muhammad attempting to make his first title defence against Jack Della Maddalena
Muhammad beat Leon Edwards to win the title last summer at UFC 304
Della Maddalena will be the fourth time the welterweight title has been up for grabs there
St-Pierre won back his title from Matt Serra at UFC 83 then defended his title against Carlos Condit in 2012 and Nick Diaz in 2013
Manon Fiorot in the co-main event is for the women’s flyweight title and will be the first women’s championship fight to take place on a Montreal card
The welterweight title has been on the line in three of the UFC’s seven Montreal cards
Non-GSP title fights that have happened in Montreal over the years include: Anderson Silva defended the middleweight title against Thales Leites at UFC 97 in 2009; Mauricio “Shogun” Rua knocked out Lyoto Machida to become 205-pound champ at UFC 113 in 2010; Demetrious Johnson defended his flyweight belt against Kyoji Horiguchi at UFC 186 in 2015
Watch UFC 315 on Sportsnet+Belal Muhammad faces Jack Della Maddalena for the welterweight title and women's flyweight champion Valentina Shevchenko takes on top contender Manon Fiorot in the UFC's anticipated return to Montreal
May 10 with prelim coverage beginning 8 p.m
and pay-per-view main card starting at 10 p.m
three respected former UFC champions (Jose Aldo
Jessica Andrade and Alexa Grasso) are set to compete on the undercard against red-hot opponents
this card showcases some of the best MMA talent from north of the border
The 12-bout fight card had been set in stone until an unfortunate Sunday announcement from one of the most exciting lightweights on the UFC roster
A 155-pound contest between Spain’s Joel Alvarez and France’s Benoit Saint Denis was supposed to kick off the pay-per-view main card
Alvarez disclosed a hand injury that will prevent him from competing at the event
Saint Denis will remain on the card, though, with Canadian lightweight Kyle Prepolec getting a second shot in the UFC by stepping up on short notice
had an 0-2 UFC stint in 2019 but has gone 4-1 since then
Fellow ranked lightweight Mateusz Gamrot claimed on Monday morning that Saint Denis turned down a short-notice matchup with him
Gamrot called Saint Denis a "coward" on social media for turning down that possible matchup

Sportsnet’s Aaron Bronsteter and Arden Zwelling will be on site in Quebec for the UFC’s return to the province

Pre-fight press conference: UFC 315 athletes will be on stage Thursday beginning at approximately 5 p.m
Scheduled participants include all main card fighters plus a selection of featured fighters from the prelims

the younger brother of St-Pierre’s longtime head trainer Firas Zahabi
Rogan claimed back in March during an episode of his podcast that he wouldn’t be attending UFC 315 because: “I don’t go to Canada anymore
Rogan’s comments were relating to the country’s current state of politics
but they were also somewhat tongue-in-cheek because he has not been travelling outside the United States for international UFC events for a couple years at this point
Former bantamweight champion Dominick Cruz will take Rogan’s spot on the cageside commentary team beside Jon Anik and Daniel Cormier
who often assumes play-by-play responsibilities when Anik is off
HOW DOES MACHADO GARRY FACTOR INTO EVERYTHING
Not every main event or title fight has a designated backup fighter, although as we’ve seen this year, last-minute changes are part of the game and it’s better to be prepared and avoid what happened earlier this year at UFC 311 when the main event had to be changed on the eve of the event.
Also, just because Machado Garry is serving as the official backup fighter this week doesn't necessarily mean he is also next in line to face the winner of Saturday’s main event if he goes unneeded.

The giant pie is made with dough fermented over two days and cooked using a custom-built pizza peel
a new contender has joined the lineup — and it's putting a Sicilian twist on things
La Scacciata, tucked into a small space near Atwater Market
opened quietly in January but has quickly been making waves across the local food scene
the focus at this family-run joint is on scacciata
a Sicilian-style focaccia that's perfect for building thick
satisfying sandwiches and pizza by the square
While many of the core ingredients — like cured meats
and olive oil — are imported directly from Italy
La Scacciata balances that old-world soul with fresh
seasonal produce sourced from local organic farms and greenhouses
The team's philosophy is simple: keep it high quality and let the ingredients speak for themselves
General manager and co-owner Jonathan Sarkis spent the last few months perfecting his bread recipe so it was "just right."
I don't think there's any place that could even come close to our sandwiches right now," he said in an interview with MTL Blog
But Sarkis isn't afraid of going big either
the team debuted their first-ever six-foot pizza — made with dough fermented over two days and cooked using a custom-built pizza peel
While he was a little nervous about executing the massive rectangular pie (and keeping it in one piece)
he couldn't be more pleased with the result
"It was like it was meant to be," Sarkis said
"It slid right onto the conveyor and came out perfectly."
La Scacciata's first six-foot pizza was a successJonathan Sarkis
costs $180 and needs to be ordered at least two days in advance
their large scacciata squares — equivalent to two slices — go for $9 each
The menu currently features six staple sandwiches
Fan favourites include the Parma (prosciutto and fig)
Bologna (mortadella with pistachio cream and crumble)
and Romana (grilled veggies with rosemary porchetta and balsamic reduction)
La Scacciata recently introduced housemade pasta and plans to extend its hours this summer with a new terrasse
One thing Sarkis says customers can always expect is the personal touch
"You'll walk in on a weekend and be greeted by my uncle," he said

scoring 11 seconds into the game as the Montreal Victoire defeated the New York Sirens 3-2 in their regular season finale on Saturday afternoon at the Prudential Center
Catherine Dubois scored in her third straight game at the 4:04 mark
it was official that Montreal would finish first in the league
and as soon as the Toronto-Ottawa game went to overtime
They ended up opening up a five-point lead atop the standings
Poulin scored her second of the game midway through the second period to make it 3-0
Sarah Fillier and Alex Carpenter scored third period goals on Ann-Renée Desbiens
Carpenter’s goal came with 15 seconds left in the game
Montreal will now select who they play in the first round of the playoffs between the Ottawa Charge and Minnesota Frost
They will make the selection live on the PWHL’s YouTube channel at 6:00 p.m
“We have the privilege to choose an opponent,” said Montreal head coach Kori Cheverie
All the teams are hard to play against and then you pick an opponent and they probably feel extra ammo coming at us
We know we have to go through everybody anyway
We’ve got to be confident that we’re going to pick an opponent and we’re going to stick to that and we have to come out on top.”
Cheverie said that it is not a decision the team is taking lightly
She says they will be leaning on their scouting
Toronto will host the team that Montreal does not choose in a best-of-five semifinal that starts Wednesday
Montreal’s series will start on Thursday at Place Bell
with Game 2 of the series being played on Sunday May 11

The PWHL regular-season champion Montreal Victoire bucked the standings on Sunday in selecting to open the playoffs facing the third-place Ottawa Charge
general manager Danièle Sauvageau said the team followed a process that included consulting with her staff and players
didn’t go into detail in choosing to face Ottawa over fourth-place Minnesota
“There was a lot of considerations that went into it
there wasn’t just one ingredient,” she said
The best-of-five semi-finals open Wednesday
with second-place Toronto hosting defending champion Frost
Montreal will open its post-season on Thursday against the Charge
who are making their first post-season appearance
There was very little to differentiate between Ottawa and Minnesota
given the teams finished in a three-way tie with Boston in having 44 points
Boston finished fifth based on having fewer regulation wins
Montreal finished the season series going 4-2 against both Ottawa and Minnesota – though the Charge won the final two outings
the six-team league adopted a rule in which the first-place team chooses whether to play the third- or fourth-place team rather than following the standings order
Toronto finished first and went with the 1 vs
4 matchup in selecting Minnesota as its first-round opponent
The Frost rallied from a 2-0 series deficit to eliminate the Sceptres before going on to claim the first Walter Cup in winning a five-game series over Boston
The Victoire closed this season 4-4-2 and clinched first place on Saturday by virtue of Toronto’s 2-1 overtime loss to Ottawa
Similar to how the PWHL’s inaugural regular season ended last year
the playoff race came down to the final day with Ottawa and Minnesota clinching the final two spots along with Montreal securing first place
Ottawa secured its first playoff berth on Katerina Mrazova’s goal to seal the Charge’s 2-1 overtime win over Toronto
Minnesota clinched its berth while also eliminating Boston with an 8-1 win over the Fleet
The New York Sirens finished last for a second straight season
The PWHL is expanding to eight teams next season with the additions of Vancouver and Seattle

Montreal Victoire’s Laura Stacey centre (7) celebrates with teammates after scoring the winning goal in overtime during PWHL hockey action in Laval
TORONTO - The Montreal Victoire will face the Ottawa Charge in the opening round of the Professional Women’s Hockey League playoffs
Montreal general manager Danièle Sauvageau announced the selection of Ottawa as its first opponent on Sunday on the league’s “Jocks in Jills” podcast
The regular-season PWHL champion has the option of selecting either the third seed or the fourth seed to face in a best-of-five first-round series
“We’ve been preparing for this all year should we be in this position,” Victoire head coach Kori Cheverie said on a conference call Sunday
without giving away too much of what went into the process of selecting the third-seeded Charge
Ottawa finished ahead of fourth-place Minnesota through a tiebreaker after the Charge
Frost and Boston Fleet finished the season tied at 44 points
Game 1 of the Charge-Victoire series goes Thursday at Place Bell
Cheverie said the team made the decision on its opponent Sunday
“We took all the time we could as an organization to make sure we had all the information that we wanted to have,” she said
The Victoire’s decision means the second-seeded Toronto Sceptres will face the Frost in the first round for the second straight year
with Game 1 Wednesday at Coca-Cola Coliseum
who are in the playoffs for the first time
won their last two regular-season games against the Victoire after losing the first four
the regular-season-champion Sceptres elected to face the fourth-seeded Frost in the first round
Minnesota went on to upset Toronto before defeating the Fleet in the final to claim the first Walter Cup
Boston swept the second-seeded Victoire in the first round in 2024
Cheverie said the three games were among the best her team played despite the result
“We can talk about last year all we want
it was a lesson for all of us,” Victoire captain Marie-Philip Poulin said
so it’s up to us to be ready.”

perhaps even as much as the fans love the 21-year-old defenceman
“It’s a special place to play,” explained Hutson
having all these guys that are still coming up
It’s only going to get younger in here
and we’re just excited about what the future can hold.”
A quick look at the first powerplay unit tells the tale in Montreal
It’s also worth noting the Canadiens were the youngest team to ever qualify for the playoffs
putting a very positive on their encouraging 2024-25 season
both from an individual and team standpoint
putting together one of the best rookie seasons from a defenceman in NHL history
With six goals and 60 assists to his credit
not only did he quickly establish himself as a game-breaking presence
exactly what the doctor ordered for a team such as the Montreal Canadiens
he also led the team in scoring throughout the playoffs
which is quite a statement when we consider the expectations were unreasonably high to begin with
MUST READ: Impact Of NHL Salary Cap Increase On Montreal Canadiens Future
a fantastic season rookie seasons translates to a significant raise
a situation that the team can address as early as July 1
and though that’s usually a concern for management and fans
in this case it should be seen as a positive investment that should ensure one of the most dynamic defencemen in the league will serve as the last foundation piece the upstart Canadiens need in place before pivoting to lesser needs
Needs such as finding a centre for the second line
ON TOPIC: Canadiens Calder Trophy: The Strong Case For Lane Hutson
The salary cap is set to explode over the course of the next few years, a reality that must be kept in mind when projecting Hutson’s potential contract. We’ll discuss the comparable contracts at a later date, but if the Canadiens do want to lock Hutson up for eight years, the negotiations are likely to start in the $10M per season range, perhaps even more.
Fortunately, Hutson seems eager to secure his future with the club.
“I hope so,” he said, when asked about the chance he’ll quickly sign a contract with the Montreal Canadiens.
While he hopes his agent and the team can find common ground, Habs fans can soon rest easy knowing most of their hope, which centres on Hutson’s excellence, is well-founded.
Good News On The Samuel Montembeault Injury Front
Gallagher was a stud for the Habs for 7yrs on a sweetheart deal before he signed his extension. If you want to wait and watch Hutson earn his money, which I think he has more then done this year, a 9.5mill deal now could turn into a 12.5 m next yr at his rate of improvement. The kid is special. Lock him up.

Montréal Head Coach Kori Cheverie on picking their first-round opponent: “We get the privilege to choose our opponent, which is not an easy decision. All the teams are hard to play against. And then you pick an opponent, and they probably feel a little bit of extra ammo coming at us. So, for us, we know we have to go through everybody anyway. We know that whoever we decide to pick, it's going to be a hard-fought battle."
Marie-Philip Poulin scored twice to clinch the league’s top goal scorer award with 19 goals on the season. The Victoire captain also finishes first in the league with five multi-goal games, with no other player recording more than three, and six game-winning-goals. She now sits at 29 career PWHL goals, six more than anyone in league history, with 10 of her goals scored against New York – the most by any player against an opponent.
Poulin’s first of two goals set a new record for quickest goal in PWHL history with her tally at 0:11 in the first period. The previous record was held by Minnesota’s Grace Zumwinkle, who scored 21 seconds into the Frost’s matchup against New York on Dec. 1.
Sarah Fillier scored her 13th goal and 16th assist of the season, bringing her season total to 29 points–– ten more than any PWHL rookie in history. She finishes the season as the league’s co-points leader with Boston’s Hilary Knight (15G, 14A).
Fillier finishes the season with a league-high five power play goals and becomes the second player in PWHL history to hit the 16-assist mark after Renata Fast hit that total earlier today.
Catherine Dubois scored for the third game in a row with her sixth goal of the season. Her three-game goal streak is one behind Laura Stacey’s team-high four-game streak this season.
Alex Carpenter scored her eleventh goal of the season to finish tied for seventh among all skaters.
Jessie Eldridge tallied her third multi-assist performance of the campaign, finished tied for first with eight multi-point games, and tied for third among all skaters with 15 helpers. Her 24 points rank second on the team and mark a 10-point increase over her inaugural season total.
Fillier and Eldridge connected on both goals to become the league’s most productive duo this season with 12 goals where both players were credited with a point.
Kati Tabin tallied her fourth assist of the season and third point in her final six games.
Erin Ambrose collected her thirteenth assist of the season, ending a five-game pointless skid. The Victoire defender has recorded 27 regular-season assists in her PWHL career, the most in league history.
Kaitlin Willoughby earned her first point of the season — and her first with Montréal — with an assist, matching her point total from her inaugural 23-game season in four additional games.
Dara Greig tallied her third assist —the rookie ended a seven-game point drought with the helper.
Maureen Murphy recorded an assist in back-to-back games for the first time this season.
Ella Shelton recorded a point in her second consecutive game (1G, 1A) with her helper today. She finishes the season with a career-high eight goals— the most among all defenders—and 16 points, ranking fourth at the position.
Montréal has scored three or more goals against New York in six games all-time, earning a 6-0-0-0 record in such games.
New York ended the season with the most games allowing the game’s first goal in the league (18).
Montréal’s Poulin, Cayla Barnes, Abby Boreen, Claire Dalton, Jennifer Gardiner, Mikyla Grant-Mentis, Kristin O’Neill and Anna Wilgren were in the lineup for all 30 of the team’s games this season.
New York’s Eldridge, Fillier, Jaime Bourbonnais, Jade Downie-Landry, Emmy Fecteau, Paetyn Levis, Abby Roque, Allyson Simpson, Noora Tulus and Micah Zandee-Hart were in the lineup for all 30 of the team’s games this season.
Montréal wins the season series against New York, 10-8 in points, and also won the inaugural season series, 13-2 in points.
The Victoire finish the season with the best road record in the PWHL at 6-2-3-4 (.556). The Sirens finish the season with a 1-3-1-8 record at Prudential Center and an overall home record of 2-3-2-8 (.311), ranking sixth in the league.

MONTREAL -- Brandon Duhaime scored twice in a four-goal third period for the Washington Capitals
who rallied for a 5-2 win against the Montreal Canadiens in Game 4 of the Eastern Conference First Round at Bell Centre on Sunday
Washington leads the best-of-7 series 3-1 and can advance to the second round with a win at home in Game 5 on Wednesday (7 p.m
Dylan Strome had a goal and an assist, and Andrew Mangiapane scored the tiebreaking goal late in the third for the Capitals
1 seed from the East and led the NHL with 25 comeback wins in the regular season
“I think the thing we depend on is we’re a really tight group,” Washington forward Tom Wilson said
“There’s an accountability when you’re that tight with each other and you pull together
There’s accountability when you’re down in tough moments that you just want to pull for the guy next to you and you want to go out there and get it done
and it’s just a really cool thing when it can be any guy."
Gm4: Duhaime scores deflection goal in 3rd period
Logan Thompson
who sustained an undisclosed injury in a collision with Strome in the third period of a 6-3 loss in Game 3 on Friday
“I kind of got my bell rung a bit there,” Thompson said
It definitely could have been a lot worse.”
Juraj Slafkovsky and Cole Caufield each scored a power-play goal, and Ivan Demidov and Lane Hutson each had two assists for the Canadiens
who are the second wild card from the East
“I feel a bit bad for the group,” Montreal coach Martin St
Jakub Dobes made 21 saves in his first Stanley Cup Playoff start. The 23-year-old rookie got the win in relief on Friday after Sam Montembeault
left with an undisclosed injury during the second period
Gm4: Dobes reacts quickly to rob Wilson of goal
Dobes made the save on his rising shot from a sharp angle
but the rebound deflected off Caufield in front and trickled five-hole into the net
The goal came immediately after Wilson knocked Canadiens defenseman Alexandre Carrier to the ice with a big hit along the boards
who also left the game in the first period before returning for the second
got up and skated straight across to the Canadiens’ bench before eventually heading to the locker room
“I don’t think the hit really changed anything other than they kind of went down the other way and just had a weird bounce off of Cole and went in,” Canadiens captain Nick Suzuki said
“But I thought we kind of carried the play in the third and just a couple of tough bounces
It’s a [bad] feeling right now but we’ve got to move on really quickly.”
Mangiapane put the Capitals in front 3-2 at 16:23
scoring glove side on Dobes from the high slot after skating into the puck
Gm4: Mangiapane rips home snap shot to put Capitals ahead
Duhaime scored into an empty net at 17:21 before Wilson added another empty-net goal with 55 seconds remaining for the 5-2 final
"It’s a group that’s had different guys step up throughout the whole year
I don’t think there’s any panic when we’re down a goal.”
Strome put the Capitals up 1-0 at 1:25 of the second period. Anthony Beauvillier fought through the check of Caufield and Hutson to get a soft moving puck on net
Dobes then kicked out a rebound with his left pad
only to have Strome pounce on it and lift a backhand into the net
“I was covering a lot of pucks and the guys wanted me to play it more,” Dobes said
They got the luckier bounce on the first one and the second one
Slafkovsky tied it 1-1 with a power-play goal at 10:33. Demidov made a move around Matt Roy in the right circle and skated around the net before sending a backhand pass out front to Slafkovsky
who scored with a one-timer from the bottom of the left circle
Caufield gave the Canadiens a 2-1 lead at 18:32 with another power-play goal
His one-timer from the left circle found an opening between the post and the toe of Thompson’s right skate
Gm4: Caufield one-times Hutson's pass home for PPG in 2nd period
“Remove all the power plays and penalty kills
I loved our game,” Capitals coach Spencer Carbery said

• Remembering Greg Millen• Why Jakob Chychrun's contract is generating discussion• How the Winnipeg Jets have prepared for the 2025 playoffs
There is one Greg Millen memory ALWAYS good for a laugh
Our Anaheim hotel during the 2007 Stanley Cup Final had an outdoor basketball court
inevitably leading to testosterone-fuelled trash talk
Kelly Hrudey and then-executive producer Joel Darling vs
myself and two other producers — Mike Dodson and Brian Spear.
(Sorry for the old-school basketball reference
but he was the Tree Rollins of their team: a big body to commit illegal screens and flagrant fouls.)
I was horrendous — as bad as I could possibly play — and they destroyed us
It wasn’t enough for Greg and Kelly to win
They desired to inflict a beatdown of epic proportions
He spent the whole game smiling at the carnage.
I wanted to work the ball right down his throat
We all need a butt-kicking from time-to-time
You’ve probably heard about his love for practical jokes
We played in the Kathy Morrison Memorial Golf Tournament one year
“How did you get the shaving cream off so fast?”
and he raced to the rack to prevent the towel he’d stuffed full of shaving cream from being used by someone else.
Being the victim of a Millen prank — or an attempt at one — showed he was on your side
The first time Greg and I worked together at Hockey Night
He asked what I was doing; I said I was giving him his space
out came his computer so he could critique his work
The Athletic’s Chris Johnston wrote Tuesday how Millen would let him know if he disagreed with something Chris said or wrote
I smiled because I was on the receiving end of those
He wasn’t afraid to challenge you if he felt you swerved from the proper path
but it never got personal and it never affected our relationship
But nothing brightened his face more than talking about his family — wife Ann
He won 232 regular-season and playoff NHL games
but no victories were bigger than the success of their children and births of their grandchildren
that such a family man had even more family to love.
1. Doesn’t take much to feel the energy in Montreal when the team is making a late-season playoff charge, but downtown was absolutely electrified by Ivan Demidov’s shocking signing
particularly since multiple sources felt as recently as Monday that it was unlikely to happen this season
It’s a reminder about two things when it comes to KHL negotiations
what’s true now might not be true in 15 minutes and
NHL teams don’t like to say anything is done until it is absolutely
A few people were asking about Demidov’s $525,000 Conn Smythe Trophy bonus for this spring
Washington agreed to something similar with Ryan Leonard
bonuses that can’t be achieved are wiped out
By including the “Conn Carrot,” teams allow a player to make more in years two and three of their entry-level deals
(There is a limit on how far apart values can be in different years of a contract.) The other thing that stood out was St
Petersburg’s announcement: “He will return to Saint Petersburg if he doesn’t gain a foothold in the NHL.” That indicates a European assignment clause
Not that anyone is expecting him to be sent down
Anyone I know who's seen Demidov play this year says he’s a stud
The buzz in the press box Tuesday night is that a) the hot dogs are still great and b) Demidov could play as soon as Monday versus Chicago
Was talking with a few teams about the Demidov signing
It’s believed there were two aborted trades at last year’s draft that could have changed history
First was Chicago’s offer to trade their 2026 first-rounder (unprotected) for the fourth pick
(They took Cayden Lindstrom.) Second was the Canadiens’ own attempt to acquire Trevor Zegras
I’ve never received complete clarity on why that deal didn’t happen
but I suspect it's because the Canadiens changed their minds when they realized Demidov would fall to five — although they were not offering that particular pick in the Zegras deal
Hurricanes and Devils fans are now wondering about Alexander Nikishin and Arseny Gritsyuk
Tripp Tracy said during the broadcast of Tuesday’s 3-0 Carolina loss in Buffalo that the Hurricanes are talking with Nikishin’s reps every day
and it might be better for both him and the Devils to wait for a full season
one source said to watch for Gabriel Landeskog joining AHL Colorado
because the Avalanche’s schedule is such that he won’t be able to practice at the level he needs
Alexander Ovechkin’s historic goal wasn’t the only record he set on Sunday
Fanatics indicated he launched the most merchandise sales ever by an NHL player in one day
Ovechkin was the top-selling athlete across all sports and the Capitals were the top-selling team across all sports
I’m unconvinced Ovechkin breaks the record this year if the Capitals continued to look as bad as they did at the start of last season
They hit multiple home runs with their off-season moves
There are others who believe he is being undersold in the Hart Trophy race
considering Washington is second in the league and he’s second in goals-per-game behind Leon Draisaitl
Ovechkin is at 1,022 goals for his professional career (regular season
Wayne Gretzky’s final goal put him at 1,072 (regular season
If you credit goals scored at international tournaments
There was a lot I liked about the last week: Ovechkin refusing to break the record on an empty net or sit out road games; Gretzky wearing the Gordie Howe pin; that it came on a shot from the left circle
People are free to be critical as they wish
but that doesn’t mean I can’t appreciate what LeBron James has done
The negativity towards basketball’s current stars from other generations is gross
but there’s a lot of interesting discussion surrounding Jakob Chychrun’s eight-year
if you would have told everyone across the industry this would have happened
I don’t think anyone would have believed it
the Capitals are second overall the league and John Carlson is 35
I believe Washington knew for some time this was the price to get him signed
The Capitals generally make good decisions
What really stands out is the amount of executives who have said (with time to think about it) they see this negotiation in their own futures
$9 million in a few years is not $9 million as it looks now
Not every team will be comfortable with these jumps
but for your eventual number one defenceman
Carlson eventually will be a huge loss on their back end
When Washington scoured the free-agent/trade market
was there any better option than what they knew?
I’m not yet sure how it is all going to work out between Vancouver and Rick Tocchet
but I do think this will be the end of one-sided
As Tuesday night’s historic comeback showed
There will be more time to sort this out over the next week
but this is the time of year where we begin to get a better handle on the potential for change across NHL front offices and benches
and a lot of mixed signals exist right now
There are some franchises awaiting ownership to make a final decision
we are taping some playoff preview stuff right now
Here’s Winnipeg owner Mark Chipman with as strong as an endorsement I’ve ever heard
for Kevin Cheveldayoff: “We've never even come to the last year of one of his contracts and we won’t
When you're fortunate enough to work alongside somebody who cares as much as Kevin does
you hang on to those people…in any other business
you don't just move off from people because things didn't go the way it expected to occur in a certain year or two…Kevin has grown every year
I’m at an age where I feel certain he will outlast me in this organization.”
Finally some clarity on Isaac Howard: he is planning a return to Michigan State
Tampa Bay’s 2022 first-rounder can be an unrestricted free agent if unsigned by Aug
as the Lightning were promoting his Hobey Baker candidacy (Howard is a finalist)
But word in NCAA circles is the team and Howard weren’t simpatico on where everything stood at this time
with so much misinformation about injuries
Bucket A is “concerned they will not be able to start the playoffs.” Bucket B is “not that concerned.” For example
Gabe Vilardi moved from Bucket A towards Bucket B this week when Jets coach Scott Arniel said he is getting closer to skating
New Jersey’s Sheldon Keefe said there’s a chance Dougie Hamilton could return for round one
Dallas GM Jim Nill told ESPN’s Leah Hextall last weekend the Stars “don’t expect” Miro Heiskanen in the first round
Two we’re still waiting on are Dylan Holloway and Matthew Tkachuk
There’s a reason everyone looks for multiple opinions
Tkachuk — who has skated — sought out several different opinions

Rangers coach Peter Laviolette took some heat after Monday’s loss to Tampa Bay when he said he didn’t have a message for his team right now
because “I don’t go into the locker room after the game.” I can’t give you an exact percentage
but that’s not uncommon among coaches — especially after a loss
I’ve dealt with Laviolette enough over the years to know it’s not what he says
but how he says it (or how he looks when he says it)
Merzlikins was called for tripping during Saturday’s loss in Toronto
Our guys in-studio did not like the penalty; what it said to me was GMs got their wish — that just as some players get embellishment reps
The Jets enter Wednesday’s games three points clear of Washington for first overall
We’ve discussed before how honest their exit meetings were after losing to Colorado
During a recent trip to the Manitoba capital
“You're just trying to figure out what went wrong,” captain Adam Lowry said
We ran into a really good Colorado team and they seemed to be able to flip the switch and take their game to another level
We weren't able to match that and you have to do some reflection…(Nathan) MacKinnon’s line really had their way with our line
How do we find a way to keep them off the board more?”
Head coach Scott Arniel said the players themselves learned a big lesson from Colorado’s best
“We saw a Stanley Cup champion team…they lost to Seattle the next year
very upset…We had finished the year really well and we went in there
I don't know if you’d call us the favourites
But we went against Colorado and we saw their experience
We saw their ability to play to the moment
We saw third- and fourth-line players become huge factors for their group
There are elite players doing things that maybe they don't always do for 82 games
They were playing a pretty strong team game
That was why (we had) to be able to do this over 82 games
Hopefully that is going to be good for us come playoff time.”
Arniel was particularly happy with a 3-2 win over Washington on March 25
fight-for-ice game that you’re going to have to win in the post-season
17. During the summer, Arniel flew to Calgary to meet with Lowry, Josh Morrissey and Mark Scheifele
What they discussed there became the bedrock of training camp
“I think what's made our team so good over the years is the continuity of the players we bring back year-in
year-out. We understand the structure
and we're able to accommodate those new players coming in
And then we have a meeting once the team's made
What are things that we want to hang our hat on
And I feel like from that meeting moving forward
we've really carried those messages into the games
“Josh and I spend a lot of time together in the summers and that's something that we talk about a lot,” Scheifele said
it's not about I need to change my game completely
it is a matter of how can I make this a little bit better and this a bit better — faceoff is a little better
When someone comes back and improves a little bit in every area
all of a sudden it pushes everyone's level up
but it's never felt like we've been too high or too low,” Morrissey added
“We're working towards Game 83…It feels like our group has taken a step from a sense of maturity
And that's why I feel confident we're ready to go into the playoffs.”
One of the words the Jets use is relentless. “The way I view it
the 10 per cent more is a critical,” Lowry said
the word relentless is plastered on the wall above it
and then defend really hard…We have a few star players that really carry the mail offensively
We're relentless in our puck pursuit on the forecheck
It's a real long night when we're playing that way.”
The most consistent answer was if a teammate gets cheap-shotted
Answer: Nowhere near as much as you’d think
“You make a mistake on the ice or you do something wrong
But now you have someone yelling at you or calling you out in front of 18 other guys
And sometimes there's a time and place for that because he might have made the mistake
I think it's just a lot easier for people to receive the information when it comes from a place where they can let their guard down
So I think the great thing about our locker room is we're such a tight-knit team that people feel comfortable telling people when things aren't going their way or when they feel like something needs to change
It doesn't take weeks for it to become a habit or things like that.”
“I knew that (Scheifele) was in the mix and and I told him as much
He really wanted to play on that hockey team.” He was going to replace Sidney Crosby if Crosby’s injury kept him from playing
No discount to any of the players that were there and obviously Canada winning was special
I was really hoping that just because of what he's done in this league
what he's done for the Winnipeg Jets and then the year he's having
but he's done a great job of trying to prove people wrong
And he's trying to play to the best of his abilities every single night
He called me from Boston the afternoon (of the final)
He had tried to get to the warmup and kept throwing up
what I'd of mentioned to those guys that you're around greatness
great situations and absorb that stuff because we're going to need it in Game 83 and on from you guys
That's the stuff they can bring back for themselves individually or for our group
it didn't work out perfect for all of them
which was to me is the best part for their growth.”
21. Most impressive off-ice accomplishment of the season: Darnell Nurse read War and Peace
I know university students assigned to read it who couldn’t finish
Leon Draisaitl on the possibility of winning the Selke Trophy: That would be “almost more important than any other (individual) trophy at this point in time
there's been a lot of chatter about when we were younger that we can't defend
And the reason we don't win is because Connor and I can't defend or don't defend
And I think we've really changed that narrative around the league and especially the last couple of years
I think it's just the consistency part of doing it every night
And I think I've done that for the most part this year.”
With the de-centralized draft looking more and more like a one-year wonder (thank God)

In the aftermath of Rogers’ Canadian television extension with the NHL
Commissioner Gary Bettman and Deputy Bill Daly were asked if they remembered getting it done so early

Rogers carefully separates church and state
It was Bettman who revealed during a television interview he was headed into a negotiation window with our bosses
and we didn’t know it was extended until last Wednesday’s announcement
when one NHL coach asked a few weeks ago if I thought a new deal would get done during that exclusivity
The bigger question for fans is: what does this mean
it means Bettman got a number that made him (and the owners) happy
Second — and this is more important to the hockey-loving public — it is another major financial cornerstone secured as serious CBA negotiations begin
Bettman can present a major media rights deal to the players and expansion is on the horizon
(Another one of my theories is that these negotiations have been going on at the highest levels of the NHL and NHLPA for a bit longer than anyone cares to admit
but that’s another story.) What is there to fight about?
Here’s my expansion prediction: the NHL adds two teams
I’ve heard there’s real concern about dilution of talent with two teams at once
although that means everyone’s got to get going
Bettman did not like “Future of Winnipeg” questions while discussing the TV deal
“I don’t understand why people are questioning that.”
there were reports Carolina’s Dmitry Orlov was headed back there for next season
but I was told he’s going to stay in the NHL

31. Lane and Cole Hutson’s undrafted older brother, Quinn, who will play for Boston University at the Frozen Four this week, has serious Western Conference interest.
32. Congratulations to Ottawa’s director of sports medicine, Gerry Townend, retiring this summer from this phase of his life after almost 35 years with the CFL’s Toronto Argonauts and then the Senators. We rarely get to call our own shots, but he’s getting to do it. I remember only one angry text: when he thought I questioned a legitimacy of an injury suffered by a player. Really enjoyed seeing him around.

Juraj Slafkovsky tied it late in the third period for Montreal (39-31-11), which has lost three in a row (0-1-2). Sam Montembeault made 22 saves

Alex Newhook put Montreal up 1-0 at 6:00 of the first period. Demidov skated down the left boards, got around Blackhawks defenseman Connor Murphy along the goal line and sent a pass out front to Newhook
who scored on a one-timer from the low slot
Demidov then made it 2-0 at 13:32. Canadiens defenseman Mike Matheson’s stretch pass was tipped down the ice by Joel Armia
but Demidov chased down the loose puck off the end boards and faked a slap shot at the left post before pulling it to his backhand for a tap-in past Soderblom's left pad

Lukas Reichel gave Chicago a 3-2 lead at 5:39 of the third period. He got behind the defense, took a lead pass from Landon Slaggert
and scored with a shot that trickled under Montembeault on a breakaway
Slafkovsky tied it 3-3 at 17:03 with a power-play goal. Cole Caufield's one-timer from the bottom of the right circle hit Slafkovsky's skate and the right post before deflecting in off the back of Soderblom's skate
“I’m proud of our guys,” Blackhawks captain Nick Foligno said
To get them to score one late and come back and find a way to get the win in the shootout
NOTES: Lane Hutson got his 65th point (six goals, 59 assists) of the season with an assist on Slafkovsky's goal, breaking a tie with Chris Chelios for the most by a rookie defenseman in Canadiens history. His 65 points are also tied with Ray Bourque for fifth in NHL history among rookie defensemen
Demidov is the eighth teenager in history to get multiple points in the first period of his NHL debut

One of the quirks of the Professional Women’s Hockey League is that the team that finishes in first place gets to choose whether they want to face the third or fourth-placed team in the first round of the playoffs
the Montreal Victoire had that choice and chose to play the Ottawa Charge
“We have the privilege to choose an opponent,” said Montreal head coach Kori Cheverie after Saturday’s game
We’ve got to be confident that we’re going to pick an opponent and we’re going to stick to that and we have to come out on top.”

BROSSARD – The Canadiens announced on Saturday that forward Oliver Kapanen and goaltender Cayden Primeau have been loaned to the Laval Rocket in the American Hockey League.
The personnel moves come a day after the team’s end-of-season media ops on Friday.
Both players join the Rocket for the AHL playoffs, which continue Sunday against the Cleveland Monsters at 3:00 p.m. at Place Bell. Laval currently leads the series 2-0.
During the 2024-25 season, Kapanen and Primeau played 18 and 11 games with the Habs respectively.
