the equivalent of 65 bathtubs full of invasive species were removed from a Pitt Meadows park over the weekend.
More than 10 cubic metres of invasive plant species including English ivy
and Himalayan blackberry were removed from the park by 30 community members of all ages
who was on council when Hoffmann Park was purchased from its original owner to become a public park
was one of those participating in the event
who added some extra cheer to the day," said Kerr.
Invasive plants were previously removed from the park on March 30
and native species planted April 21 and October 6 of last year.
"Participants didn’t just help restore a local park - they built connections
enjoyed the health benefits of spending time outdoors
and felt hope by experiencing the power we have when we come together," said Kerr
"Our activities are about more than the environmental impact we make on the day
and showing people they can make a difference."
Opportunities are ongoing to get involved at the new Grabenhorst Garden in Pitt Meadows
The events are one to three hours long every Wednesday from April to September in the morning and afternoon

Ethel St.Croix thought the home show was great.
"It brings everybody together," she said as she waited for her children who were on a ride called the Tornado
St.Croix believes Maple Ridge needs more events like this one
the more the people will come together," added St.Croix
She was excited to check out the trades portion later in the day
it's fun to check out the latest in home decor.
Some people were at the Family Festival just for the rides.

It's easy to see how the Ridge Meadows Home Show bills itself "The Everything Show," with a walk through the 300 booths inside the arenas at Planet Ice
and there's a huge mix of products and services to see and even sample
with local couple Jamie and Krista Nay there selling their wares for the first time
and has been to the show many times as a customer
but he was looking forward to letting his hometown neighbours sample his hot sauce as a first-time vendor
At the other end of the Home Show experience spectrum is Dave Sheppard
His father Jack was one of the originators of the show
which now draws more than 20,000 people through the weekend
Dave still enjoys showing off features on the latest grill they just got in stock
"We get of lot of people moving to town who don't know us
even through we've been in town 55 years," he said
Jennifer Haer of Bliss Mattresses was letting couples lay on the mattresses and incline them with a remote control
She said the outdoor family fest – with its entertainers
carnival treats and more – packs in people of all ages
so we get people coming out to enjoy the whole day," said Haer
it's nice to get out and meet our community."
Megan Rowland has been bringing her Scentsy scented products to the show for a decade
but said it's about more than making sales
so it's like a high school reunion," said Rowland

Federal RCMP announced that they have dismantled "numerous" fentanyl production labs in B.C
At a press conference at the provincial RCMP headquarters in Surrey Thursday
senior officers say the investigation had involved Langley
Federal investigators have also seized precursor chemicals
with one being a chemist. These searches led to the discovery of three separate illicit drug production facilities with two suspected of producing fentanyl
Two suspects were arrested at one of the locations
Work on the case started in 2023 with the raids happening over the last several weeks
The RCMP Clandestine Lab Enforcement and Response (CLEAR) team launched an investigation into the importation of unregulated chemicals
and commercial laboratory equipment that could be used for the purpose of making illicit drugs including fentanyl
commander fo the RCMP Federal Policing program in the Pacific Region
deputy regional commander of RCMP Federal Policing in the Pacific Region
"This enforcement action is an example of how we counter fentanyl production at its source
and continue to aggressively combat organized crime groups that are becoming increasingly more sophisticated in their scientific
and technical abilities," Lee said. The RCMP continues to disrupt the production of fentanyl that is impacting Canadian communities
that these labs are producing fentanyl for exportation into the United States."
and other evidence continue to be processed
"There's no evidence they were destined for the U.S.," Teboul said of the ultimate destination of the drugs being made in the labs
President Donald Trump has slapped tariffs on Canada and Mexico
ostensibly because of fentanyl being smuggled into the United States
authorities in Canada was minimal compared to that on the southern border
Taboul noted that the quantities of drugs seized could have amounted to 5.5 million doses of fentanyl
He said he could give few other details as the investigation is ongoing
but noted that the Aldergrove site was in a commercial area in Langley Township
and the Pitt Meadows one was close to or in a residential neighbourhood
No one has been charged and Taboul did not give details about the people who were arrested and have since been released.
He said the RCMP will continue to pursue organized crime-linked labs
and we won't stop until we have taken them all down," Taboul said
Lee said the police are pleased to remove the ability to make massive numbers of doses of the drugs but are troubled at the sophistication of the labs
"The discovery of commercial-grade chemistry equipment at all locations
in addition to the arrest of an individual who we suspect has a background in chemistry
points to a disturbing trend of progressively enhanced scientific and technical expertise, among transnational organized crime groups involved in the production and distribution of illicit drugs."

He said he followed his passion for building and creativity when he pivoted into tiny homes.
"I knew that there was a shortage of homes
I originally was planning to build one for myself on a lake
but then when I found out about tiny homes
I just believe that creativity is the steam engine to our soul."

when the campaign was off an running she met some of the most wonderful people in her life.
She thanked her family and she thanked her "incredible core team"

Us and our neighbours should also not hesitate in helping keep him honest and accountable," said Lehner
He was bringing something to modern politics that he feels is missing – a little humour.
Some Liberal supporters voiced their disappointment that the party did not receive a majority mandate.

he thought the Liberals would get more.

which she said were the most important issues of the election
She said the rising cost of living is the most important issue facing people in our communities as families are working hard but still struggling to keep up with the basics like groceries
Rowell also expressed the desire to modernize Employment Insurance
Too many who pay into the system aren’t able to access it when they’re between jobs or going through a tough time
saying Liberal leader Mark Carney's plan to double the pace of home building to 500,000 homes a year would help bring costs down and make it easier for families to find a place they can afford
Rowell described herself as a lifelong Maple Ridge resident who has served on several local committees to support youth and families
including the Maple Ridge Pitt Meadows Youth Center Society
Her career in finance began in 1986 at the Bank of BC and the Maple Ridge Community Credit Union and since then she has worked in financial services

What is the most important issue facing voters in this election
The key issue in this election is whether the Liberals deserve to be in power for 14 years considering the past decade
The Mission Record asked each candidate in the Pitt Meadows-Maple Ridge riding (which includes a portion of Mission) to answer the same four questions and asked them to limit their answers to 200 words for each question
Angie Rowell - Liberal Party of Canada
What makes you and your party best suited to represent Mission in parliament?
As a lifelong resident of Maple Ridge with nearly four decades of experience in financial services and a deep-rooted history of community involvement
I’m proud to stand as the Liberal candidate for Pitt Meadows-Maple Ridge and West Mission
I understand the unique strengths and challenges of our communities
and results-driven approach to representing our region in Parliament.
My commitment to service includes years of volunteering with local youth organizations and parks
and being a part-time foster parent through the Ministry of Children and Families
When I served on the Youth Centre Society board
we helped fund a youth safe house that supported young people from across the Lower Mainland.
I know many families are facing real economic pressure
That’s why I’m committed to advocating for living wages
I believe a Liberal government will build more homes
and protect what matters most to Pitt Meadows
what do you think is the best approach to address climate change?
The Liberal Party cancelled the consumer carbon tax to help families
but the party is still dedicated to addressing climate change through innovation
and smart investments will be central to reducing emissions and creating a prosperous
Mark Carney is respected globally for aligning economic growth with climate goals
and I am committed to delivering that right here at home
which involves investing in clean energy and sustainable infrastructure
I support incentives that help families switch to electric vehicles
My commitment to addressing climate change is grounded in experience
I served as Chairperson for the Maple Ridge and Pitt Meadows Parks & Leisure Services Commission
How do you and your party plan to address the economic uncertainty due to the U.S
but we can help Canadians weather the storm by putting more money back in their pockets
The Liberal Party has a plan to make life more affordable by cutting taxes
a Liberal government will stand firm in the face of President Trump’s escalating trade threats
The Liberal government is committed to injecting $5 billion into a new Trade Diversification Corridor Fund to invest in ports
and drive long-term economic growth.
The Liberal Party will also defend Canadian workers and industries by protecting key sectors like dairy
and steel; reinvesting retaliatory tariffs directly into affected industries; and strengthening cross-border supply chains for key goods
while building more domestic capacity.
we know how deeply our communities are connected to U.S
I will fight to protect local jobs from unjustified tariffs
and ensure Canada stands united and strong at the negotiating table.
What can you and your party do at the federal level to bring more affordable housing options to Mission?
The Liberal government will double housing construction over the next decade to 500,000 new homes a year
The Liberals will create Build Canada Homes to get the federal government back into the homebuilding business by: acting as a developer to build affordable housing at scale
including on public land; catalysing innovative
prefab Canadian housing industries with $25 billion in financing; and
providing $10 billion in low-cost financing for affordable home builders.
The plan will also cut municipal development charges in half for multi-unit homes
and convert underused buildings into housing.
The Liberal government will also eliminate GST for first time home buyers on homes up to $1M.
I support this national plan and will work with all levels of government to secure funding for Mission
I will advocate for our fair share of housing investments to put towards co-op
and non-profit housing so that residents can age in place
and afford to live in the community they love.
My experience as a foster parent has shown me the importance of stable housing for community safety and resilience
and I will push for housing that promotes stability
Marc Dalton - Conservative Party of Canada
I’ve had the privilege of representing Pitt Meadows–Maple Ridge as the Conservative Member of Parliament for six years
and it would be an honour to represent Mission residents alongside my colleague Brad Vis
my granddaughter may be the newest Mission resident
I kept Mission Memorial Hospital’s Emergency Room open
successfully pressed for the four-laning of Lougheed Highway to Silverdale
and secured funding for our local food bank and community organizations
I will work tirelessly to ensure Mission is well represented and our region is not forgotten.
I hear the challenges we face—rising costs
After nearly a decade of Liberal government
families here are working harder but falling further behind.
and stand up to Trump from a position of strength.
Scrapping the carbon tax is a crucial step toward genuine environmental progress
The Liberal carbon tax was never an environmental plan—it was a tax plan that burdened working Canadians
and failed to achieve significant emissions reductions.
The Conservative approach prioritizes innovation over taxation
By embracing technology-driven solutions like carbon capture
and investment in Canadian-made innovations
we aim to reduce global emissions effectively
Up Vertical in Pitt Meadows is able to produce leafy greens for B.C.
and the Pacific Northwest using no chemical pesticides
while recycling carbon dioxide instead of releasing it.
Exporting Canadian natural gas could have a transformative impact on global emissions
If half of India’s new electricity demands over the next 20 years were met with our natural gas instead of coal
global emissions would drop by 2.5 billion tons—three times Canada’s total emissions
This approach achieves far more than shutting down our economy
proving that Canadian innovation can lead the way in environmental solutions.
How do you and your party plan to address the economic uncertainty due to U.S
as its primary trading partner has left us vulnerable
have ensured that 98% of Canada’s oil exports and all natural gas go to the U.S
Mark Carney’s advocacy for Net-Zero has further stifled industries like mining
contributing to Canada’s decline in global per capita income rankings.
A Conservative government aims to diversify trade relationships
as demonstrated under Prime Minister Harper
Conservatives plan to return investment to Canada through initiatives like the Canada First T.F.S.A.
which directs funds to Canadian companies paying domestic taxes
Over half a trillion dollars of investment has moved to the U.S
Mark Carney moved the headquarters of Brookfield
softwood lumber tariffs were swiftly eliminated
contrasting with the Liberals’ decade-long failure to address escalating tariffs that have devastated British Columbia’s mills and jobs
Conservatives pledge to rebuild Canada’s military and ensure the nation remains independent under Pierre Poilievre’s leadership
rejecting any notion of becoming a 51st state
Our vision is to restore economic growth and strengthen Canada’s global standing.
The housing crisis in Mission and across Canada stems from government inaction
Liberal policies have doubled housing prices
leaving young Canadians disillusioned about homeownership.
A Conservative government will address this by removing the G.S.T
saving buyers up to $65,000 and reducing interest costs
Federal infrastructure funding will be tied to housing starts
compelling cities to cut red tape and boost supply
15% of federal buildings and land will be sold to build homes
ensuring accountability for tangible results.
Wealthy foreign investors will be restricted from using Canadian homes as assets
Immigration policies will align with housing availability and job market demands.
This plan isn’t just about affordability—it’s about securing the future of Canadian communities
Young people in Mission deserve the chance to work hard
Conservatives aim to restore housing affordability and revive the dream of homeownership for all Canadians.
Daniel Heydenrych - New Democratic Party
Our track record shows that having NDP members in parliament ensures transparency and accountability
While others may attempt to claim these wins
it was the NDP that fought for you and got dental care
$10 a day childcare and so much more.
I have had a career in service and protection of the most vulnerable and marginalised and standing up for what it right
reinforced and informed by my degree and masters in international relations and security studies
as well as my extensive international experience working on military
and NGO humanitarian relief programs across Africa
The NDP has several plans to address and mitigate issues caused by climate change
We aim to retrofit 3.3 million homes with energy-saving upgrades
which includes free retrofits for 2.3 million low-income households
and grants or low-interest loans for 1 million more
This simple initiative will aid in cutting energy bills by up to $4,500 a year for families across Canada
This will also benefit communities across Canada by creating thousands of union jobs in installation
created through partnerships with colleges and union training centres.
We will keep the industrial carbon price and the emissions cap in place and focus on protecting workers as we transition to cleaner energy and manufacturing processes
We will Introduce a Border Carbon Adjustment so overseas polluters do not undercut Canadian workers and industries allowing them to stay competitive.
We will eliminate billions in oil and gas subsidies and corporate handouts
Companies that privatize their profits and socialize their losses
that post massive profits and pay their executives obscene ‘bonuses’
do not need taxpayer funded welfare.
The NDP plans to reject trade deals that sell out Canadian jobs
Canadians are proud of our public health care
and the idea that we look out for one another
corporations from privatizing and ruining our health care system and bankrupting Canadians
We’ll also rework EI so it actually works for you
and coverage for gig and self-employed workers.
especially in industries hit hard by Trump’s tariffs
We’ll invest in infrastructure that puts people to work—using Canadian steel
We’ll use every dollar from retaliatory tariffs to directly support impacted workers in the steel
We’ll lock in protections for Canadian industries
and public control because our country is not for sale.
is a fundamental right for Canadians.
To ensure Canadians can assess to adequate housing
the NDP plans to build 3 million more homes by 2030
We will publicly finance new construction in partnership with non-profit developers
Our plan also includes setting aside suitable federal crown land that we already own to build rent-controlled homes
so they do not fall prey to renovictions and price gouging
the NDP will fight your right to have access to safe and adequate housing.
To ensure this building plan stays within the NDP’s mandate regarding climate change and environmental protections
we will rely on our own country for raw materials and supplies thus eliminating unnecessary foreign transportation emissions
These measures will all be implemented with the utmost respect for the inherent and Treaty rights of the Indigenous communities.
Chris Lehner - People’s Party of Canada
televised media hasn’t been offering equal time to all parties
however we get our message across via our website and web-based discussions and interviews
We push to want to help as many Canadians as possible because as the adage goes
we should remind ourselves that change never happens from those who remain silent.
Our 3.48 million square kilometres of trees covers about 38% of our country
With this advantage Canada already has we can apply common-sense solutions to continue being stewards of the land in keeping our air
water & soil clean for generations to come
The PPC would also ensure our remotely-located First Nations brothers and sisters have access to clean drinking water as well
Rather then being forced or shamed into items such as alternatives fuels for heating and travel
Canadians should be introduced to alternatives as a choice we can make for ourselves without negative social consequences.
President Trump has asked that someone sit with him to discuss a “make a deal” on the best way to move forward with tariffs
the current tariff-for-tariff game of one-upmanship against the largest
economic superpower in the world we’re experiencing
will quickly become a very slippery slope that will leave people on both side of the border in worse financial condition then when this started
Without sitting down and having this discussions
we’re missing out on potentially better solutions
We’re doing ourselves a disservice by operating with incomplete data.
but on a national stage Mission cannot avoid the issue of housing affordability either
How much does the population of Mission grow each year
Where will these new residents live?
Mission has some of the friendliest neighbours
would need a smart and caring plan for growth
The PPC respects the local municipalities responsibilities on housing - Mission should not be subjected to federal financial pressure to

Three separate fentanyl labs have been dismantled after numerous search warrants were carried out across the Lower Mainland and Fraser Valley last month
Two suspects were arrested at one of the locations
“The fentanyl production labs located in the cities of Pitt Meadows
and Aldergrove were equipped with specialized chemical processing equipment often found in academic and professional research facilities
with one of the arrested individuals claiming to be a chemist with an advanced degree in organic chemistry,” Mounties said
Police say the labs were discovered between March 26 and 29 after search warrants were issued in five separate cities: Pitt Meadows
The action is a result of an investigation into B.C.-based organized crime that was launched in 2023
initiated to combat the importation of precursor chemicals and commercial lab equipment
“This interdiction has prevented several million potentially lethal doses of fentanyl from being produced and distributed across Canada,” said Chief Superintendent Stephen Lee
the discovery of commercial-grade chemistry equipment at all locations
points to a disturbing trend of progressively enhanced scientific and technical expertise
among transnational organized crime groups involved in the production and distribution of illicit drugs.”

McKinnon has held the riding in three elections since the Conservatives last won the riding in 2011
when Stephen Harper’s Conservatives were turfed from government
McKinnon won the riding with 18,178 votes and on Monday night had more than 26,660 votes with one poll still to come
an increase of several thousand from those cast for the Conservative candidate in 2021
Both their vote totals came at the expense of the NDP’s Laura Dupont
That was almost 10,000 fewer than the 13,000-plus votes she received in 2021
which was reflective of the plummeting support for the NDP across Canada
Libertarian Lewis Clarke Dahlby had 776 votes late Monday
while the Greens’ Michael Peter Glenister trailed with 510
McKinnon in 2015 beat the previous Conservative second-place finisher by just under 300 votes
but that gap widened to more than 3,700 votes against a different Conservative candidate in 2019
in the riding that covers the urban condo towers of Coquitlam and the downtown of Port Coquitlam as well as the rural dwellers who live north of there
Voter turnout in the riding was about 61 per cent
historically a toss-up between Conservatives and NDP
With just one poll still be counted late Monday night
NDP incumbent Bonita Zarrillo is headed for a loss
Lambert was in second with more than 24,806 — 1,779 votes behind Royer
who had beaten the Conservative candidate by more than 3,000 votes in 2021 — with the Liberal candidate not far behind — had 9,197 votes on Monday night
having lost to the Conservative candidate in 2019 by 153 votes

Conservative Marc Dalton will likely hang on to his seat
The recent redrawing of the riding boundaries since 2021 to include a part of Mission
made it harder to predict an outcome based on the previous election
with the Liberals capturing the seat in 2015 under a different candidate
All outcomes were within 5,000 votes each year
Also running this year is Daniel Hydenrych for the NDP
Chris Lehner for the People’s Party of Canada (417) and Peter Buddle for the Rhinoceros Party (278)
The Green party had dropped its candidate at the last minute
