Distribution Stox recently announced the conclusion of an agreement in principle to acquire ARP Distribution
another passenger car and light truck tire distributor — this one located in Plessisville
The acquisition means activities in Distribution Stox’s Victoriaville warehouse will be transferred to the 16,000 square-foot warehouse in Plessisville to service customers from the Centre-du-Québec region more efficiently
“This acquisition is part of our growth strategy which will enable Distribution Stox to solidify its presence in the Centre-du-Québec region in terms of passenger and light truck tire distribution,” said Jean Novak
will remain unchanged from a retail perspective
“My brother Dale and I are happy to see our distribution company pursue its development as part of our Unimax
Distribution Stox professional family,” said Steeve Goudreault
we will focus our efforts on our Point S retail location in Plessisville.”

Maple syrup and cranberries make a great combination – both on the table and when serving up a vital economy for Canada in general
but particularly for some small Quebec towns
The Senate Committee on Agriculture and Forestry visited the farms
fields and factories of Laurierville and Plessisville
Quebec in October 2018 as part of its study into the value-added food sector in Canada
Senators saw first-hand how growing and processing local ingredients create a strong and self-sustaining local industry in these picturesque communities
These value-added foods help define Canada’s reputation for quality produce around the world
Canada is the world’s second-largest producer of cranberries
Quebec accounts for around two thirds of Canada’s cranberry production and Plessisville is the heartland of this lucrative industry
Senators saw the scale of the industry as they pulled up to one of the largest cranberry fields in Canada— the site of the world’s biggest organic cranberry producer, Fruit d’Or
Vast expanses of bright red cranberries bobbed atop the bogs
fields alive with activity as workers waded through waters dense with fruits
Rather than exporting the crops to be processed elsewhere
the town of Plessisville benefits directly from processing its cranberries right where they’re grown
Senators visited the town’s cranberry processing facility where over 2.5 million pounds of Quebec cranberries are processed every day
The facility employs more than 360 local workers
Senators heard that cranberry processing isn’t just focused on the popular dried cranberries and juices; the processing plant also produces health supplements
An ongoing research collaboration between Fruit d’Or and the University of Laval is helping grow the industry
looking at innovative ways to maximize the antioxidant qualities of the fruit
Plessisville isn’t merely a world leader in cranberry production — it also boasts production of Canada’s most distinctive export: maple syrup
Senators visited the headquarters of the Citadalle cooperative in Plessisville
An important exporter of maple syrup worldwide
the cooperative represents around 2,000 members and employs 200 people locally
was an important theme that emerged when senators met with members of the cooperative
This small part of Quebec has an outsized impact on Canada’s agricultural and value-added sectors
are keenly aware of this privilege and responsibility
The maple syrup producers said their community and their values are interlinked
they told the committee they are committed to maintaining a high level of integrity and service for their employees and fellow members
“This industry is a huge economic driver locally and nationally, so it’s good to see that the producers and processors are serious about maintaining their competitiveness and high standards,” said Senator Maltais
reflecting on what the committee learned in Plessisville
“This industry is a huge economic driver locally and nationally, so it’s good to see that the producers and processors are serious about maintaining their competitiveness and high standards,” said Senator Maltais, deputy Chair of the committee, reflecting on what the committee learned in Plessisville.

Quebec RCMP said on Twitter that the searches were carried out as part of an investigation targeting individuals in the province with suspected ties to Atomwaffen Division
which is listed by the federal government as a terror group

“There are no arrests that are planned for today and no criminal charges,” Poirier said
Poirier says there’s a possibility that the findings from today’s investigation will lead to more searches
Officials couldn’t comment on how many potential suspects there are
“The purpose of the search is not to interact with them
it’s more to search the premises to find whatever investigators are looking for,” Poirier said
“It’s not so targeted on the individuals themselves today.”
Police searched a residential building behind a church in St-Ferdinand and an apartment building in Plessisville
Photos posted online by the RCMP showed heavily armed officers outside various buildings
Poirier said there was no threat to public safety
but he added that an emergency response team was dispatched because of “the nature of the group,” which advocates for acts of violence
The Atomwaffen division was founded in the United States in 2013
They were listed as a terrorist group in Canada in 2021
the group garnered police attention over a string of alleged “swatting” offences — a term used to describe the act of fabricating emergencies to trick SWAT units into action
alleged members were charged for running intimidation campaigns against journalists and members of the Anti-Defamation League in retaliation for reporting on the group’s members and activities
The federal Public Safety Department’s website says Atomwaffen Division
which is also known as the National Socialist Order or NSO
calls for “acts of violence against racial
and ethnic groups,” as well as against informants
The group has carried out violent acts at public rallies
Poirier couldn’t comment on the specific criminal activities Atomwaffen partakes in but said they “obviously target some specific groups” like minorities and members of the LGBTQ community
that he is not an expert when it comes to their exact criminal misconduct
“They have done some violent acts in the past,” Poirier said
“I also know that my colleagues in Ontario have arrested one in May.”

Texas -- Dallas Stars General Manager Jim Nill announced today that the club has loaned forward Mavrik Bourque to the Texas Stars
Dallas' development affiliate in the American Hockey League (AHL)
Bourque made his NHL debut with the Stars on April 6 against the Chicago Blackhawks
logging two shots in 10:56 minutes of ice time
The 22-year-old has appeared in 66 games with the Texas Stars this season and leads all AHL skaters with 72 points (26-46—72)
Bourque also leads Texas and shares second in the league with 46 assists
and he ranks second on the club and shares 11th in the league with 26 goals
With teammates Matěj Blümel and Logan Stankoven
Bourque represented the Central Division at the 2024 AHL All-Star Classic in San Jose
Quebec native has appeared in 142 games with the Texas Stars over three seasons and has recorded 124 points (47-77—124)
2021 and went on to post five points (1-4—5) in six games with Texas in 2020-21
He played his first full professional season in 2022-23
earning 47 points (20-27—47) in 70 regular-season games and adding four points (1-3—4) in eight Calder Cup Playoff games
191-pound forward was originally selected by Dallas in the first round (30th overall) of the 2020 NHL Draft
When Willie Randolph hoisted back-to-back World Series trophies with the 1977 and ’78 New York Yankees, or Omar Moreno toasted the World Series title won by his Pittsburgh Pirates in 1979
one wonders if they took a moment to think how far they had come since the day they played for a crowd of 69 people in Quebec City
That’s right: A paid attendance only slightly larger than the array of players, coaches, batboys, and umpires on the field. And for a doubleheader, no less — 14 innings of Double-A Eastern League baseball.1 From a big-league viewpoint
But that sort of thing can happen in the minor leagues when ballpark problems combine with wicked weather — as they did in Thetford Mines
a little more than 60 miles from Thetford Mines
arranged to use the Carnavals’ 4,500-seat home field
for a May 5 doubleheader against the Reading (Pennsylvania) Phillies
as no one in Quebec City cared much about either team
wintry weather was the rule that week throughout the Eastern League — to the point that the turnout for the Reading-Thetford Mines doubleheader wasn’t even the smallest crowd of the week
a 24-year-old whom Pittsburgh had drafted out of a Michigan high school in 1968
walking 55 and striking out 33 in 65 innings
With roughly one out of every 65 seats in the ballpark occupied,13 the Phillies and Pirates took the field for the first game and proceeded to play as if they had a train to catch … a warm
Thomas scattered two singles — one to pitcher Gratz and one to left fielder Ken Melvin — walked three
Reading turned a pair of double plays behind him to ease any threats
allowed the Phillies only two walks and four singles — two by left fielder Willibaldo Quintana
and one apiece by Andrews and second baseman Blas Santana
Thetford Mines turned three double plays of its own to keep Reading at bay
Reading went on to finish the season 69-66 with one tie, placing third of four teams in the Eastern League’s National Division. Unfortunately for the Phillies, only the top two in each division qualified for the playoffs. Nosing them out were the Carnavals, at 76-64 and one tie, and Thetford Mines, one game back at 75-65. Reading’s season highlight came August 20 when Thomas threw a no-hitter, the fourth of five in the Eastern League that season.18
the championship game was the Thetford Mines Pirates’ final contest
Pittsburgh moved its Double-A affiliate to Shreveport
The Milwaukee Brewers moved their Double-A team from Shreveport to Thetford Mines for 1975
then moved it to Western Massachusetts the following year
Thetford Mines has not hosted affiliated minor-league ball since then

one of the oldest and largest trucking companies in Quebec
has sold its trucking operations to TFI International
“After careful consideration and by mutual agreement
we have come to the conclusion that the time has come to divest ourselves of this sector of activity
we want to focus on the development of our warehousing division,” the company said in a press release
our employees and customers have been at the heart of our concerns
with its desire to maintain current jobs and continue to serve our customers
who has led the company for more than half of its existence

“My sons were more interested in warehousing than in transportation,” he said in an interview with transportroutier.ca. “I don’t really have someone to take my succession on the transportation side of the business
Jean-Philippe and Alexandre wanted to focus on warehousing and logistics management
a sector in which we have been operating for over 20 years.”
“Our Number 1 desire was to maintain jobs and continuity with our customers,” he added
TFI will take over the Plessisville and Boucherville trucking facilities and will continue to serve the same segments
the Boutin name will continue to be seen on the roads
“The beauty of all this is that Boutin remains in the hands of a Quebec owner
with someone [Alain Bédard] who has a long track record of success
with a lot of capacity and means at all levels of the company,” Boutin said

prepping it for pasteurization at the International Strategic Reserve in St-Antoine-de-Tilly
40 kilometres southwest of Quebec City.Francis Vachon
picturesque village of St-Antoine-de-Tilly has a secret
In a nondescript warehouse on the outskirts of town
some 40 kilometres southwest of Quebec City
A 6.3-million-kilogram stash of maple syrup
another 1.4-million-kilogram cache is squirrelled away in Plessisville
a town proclaimed as the World Maple Capital in 1976
these stockpiles are officially called the International Strategic Reserve
which works like a Fort Knox for Canada's most-cherished breakfast condiment - a massive arsenal of sweet
liquid gold ready to be deployed to feed a rise in global demand while maintaining price stability
It's the Federation of Quebec Maple Syrup Producers' way of preparing for what it expects to be a banner year for exports to Asia due to surging demand from countries like Japan
Those markets are increasingly important to the people who make maple syrup - mostly in Quebec
New Brunswick and Nova Scotia - as the flow of syrup exports slows to the United States
Still feeling the effects of the recession
are crossing maple syrup off their grocery lists
The country spent 15 per cent less on imported maple syrup and maple sugar in 2010 than it did the year before
dropping to $142.9-million from $167.8-million
went on a media blitz to kick off a strategic plan that largely targets Asian markets
And neither the soaring loonie nor the devastation that occurred in Japan that very day will deter that demand
Japan is facing a painful recovery from the tsunami and earthquakes that shook the country last month
with reconstruction costs easily exceeding $300-billion (U.S.).But the country's demand for Canadian maple syrup is unlikely to take a hit
deputy chief economist at Toronto-Dominion Bank
So we wouldn't expect a major impact on the maple syrup industry as a result of the Japanese crisis," Mr
2 international market for maple syrup after the United States
scooping up 10.1 per cent of total exports last year
Canadian exports to Japan topped 3.2 million kilograms of maple syrup and maple sugar worth more than $28-million (Canadian) - a new record
"We are looking forward to having an even bigger numbers for 2011
interim director-general of the Federation of Quebec Maple Syrup Producers
He pointed to the fact that Asian consumers are already using maple syrup as a topping on pancakes
but it is becoming increasingly popular to cook chicken and pork with it as well
so popular is maple syrup in Japan that consumers are routinely shelling out 1,000 to 1,365 yen - or about $11.75 to $16.05 - for a 250-millilitre bottle
That compares to about $6.99 to $7.99 for the same amount in Canada
Increasing Asian demand is key since Canadians only consume roughly 10 per cent of all domestically produced syrup with Quebeckers gobbling up the lion share
"It is part of our strategy to diversify our market," said Louis Turenne
Décacer bottles about 30,000 bottles of syrup a day and makes maple flakes
which is essentially dehydrated syrup that can be used to cook meat or as a sweetener
Japan is among its top markets for both products
"I don't see any reason for the market to slow down," Mr
all the conditions are there to get a good crop ..
but only Mother Nature can tell if it is going to happen."
Price stability is also key to developing the Chinese market
China may have a burgeoning middle class but consumers remain price-conscious
says he's also excited about the possibilities about the Chinese becoming a new tourist market within Canada
the two countries signed an agreement giving Canada "approved destination status" - a long-sought-after designation that is expected to substantially increase the numbers of Chinese tourists visiting Canada each year
Niagara Falls and Toronto - the Chinese are going to visit these areas in numbers and they are going to want to take something back with them to give their friends and tell the story of their experiences in Canada," Mr
Canadian farmers produced 7.2 million gallons of maple syrup products worth $280.9-million
- Maple syrup products include maple syrup
- Canada's all-time production record was set in 2009 at nine million gallons
- One gallon of syrup equals 10 pounds of maple sugar or 10.4 pounds of maple taffy
- Quebec produces 94 per cent of Canada's maple syrup and 77 per cent of the world's supply
- Canada's top export markets are the United States
an independent team of maple syrup tasters literally takes a nip from each and every barrel produced in that province for quality assurance

this company has been producing three-wheeled vehicles for fans of summer driving
The first T-Rex was built in Plessisville in 1995
it was powered by a Kawasaki engine and you needed a motorcycle licence to drive one
despite the fact that the vehicle has a steering wheel and pedals
After being bought out by two entrepreneurs in 2008
the company’s activities were transferred to Boucherville to get closer to Montreal and to modernize its facilities
wanting to pick up the pace of production to reach new markets
Campagna’s primary objective was to standardize the construction of the T-Rex
To be able to make enough units to meet the demand
it was crucial to know exactly how much time was needed
which parts were necessary for the next step
As I witnessed during a visit to the workshops
everything is meticulously catalogued and documented for each step in the fabrication process
the T-Rex meets the highest quality standards
which is yet another piece of the logistical puzzle
the manufacturer had to find an efficient way to power its vehicle
The original engine (a 1,400-cc four-cylinder Kawasaki motorcycle engine) was very powerful and emitted a captivating sound
That’s not such a big deal if you’re only assembling a few units per year
but to satisfy the brand’s desire for expansion
the Quebec-based firm chose the 1,650-cc six-cylinder normally found in the BMW K1600
Not only does this engine offer 160 horsepower plus more torque than the Kawasaki it’s replacing
it comes with the added advantage of being serviceable in any BMW motorcycle dealership in the world
While the number of Kawasaki ZZR engines was limited
BMW is happy to provide Campagna all the units that they can buy
expanding the dealership network and selling vehicles in new markets represents the final step
60% of the vehicles presently produced in Boucherville are earmarked for international markets
of which a good part goes to the United States
a certain number of T-Rexes make their way to Europe and Asia as well
the brand is even planning a version with the steering wheel on the right to satisfy markets like Australia
Campagna is constantly negotiating with dealerships throughout the world to persuade them to offer its products
2015 is a milestone year in Campagna’s history
as it celebrates the 20th year of production for the very popular T-Rex
Its logos bear the inscription “20e Anniversaire” worldwide
leather steering wheel and commemorative logos
the vehicle is even more enticing than the regular T-Rex
It’s an extremely limited edition: only 20 units will be produced
and nearly half of these have already been sold
Campagna Motors is in great shape right now
and if the T-Rex’s 20th anniversary proves anything
it’s that passion and engineering are alive and well in Quebec
