American home improvement giant Lowe’s announced the closure of 34 stores across Canada as well as the restructuring of its corporate support staff on Wednesday morning
confirmed the stores are underperforming and that their closure will help reveal the margin of manoeuvre the hardware store says it needs to reinvest in its future growth
Eleven of the 12 stores set to close in Quebec are under the RONA name
with the other location being the Réno-Dépôt on des Forges Boulevard in Trois-Rivières
The closures also affect nine stores in Ontario
three in British Columbia and one in Saskatchewan
The company isn’t sure of the exact number of employees affected
but it says that given the current staffing needs within the Lowe’s Canada network
eligible employees will be offered a transfer to a nearby store
The Lowe’s purchase of RONA in 2016 was contentious
with many criticizing the provincial Liberal government in power at the time for the loss of a made-in-Quebec retailer
Lowe’s Canada intends to invest in its supply chain
The full list of stores that will be closed in each province can be found below

Animal AgTech company, TARGAN
has secured its first international placement of WingScanTM as part of efforts to transform the production of animal protein worldwide
The automated chick feather sex identification system has been delivered and installed at Trouw Nutrition’s Ramsay Hatchery in Saint-Félix-de-Valois
“By automating feather sexing, more producers will be able to take advantage of the benefits of sex separated rearing. At the farm, sex-specific feeding strategies can be implemented, and barn space can be optimized. More consistent feeding and reduced competition among chicks lead to increased uniformity. This reduction in size variation benefits both primary and secondary processing stages, facilitating the introduction of new automated processes at the plant.”
Pre-installation, TARGAN visited the site to consider the specifications of the hatchery and ensure seamless integration into the existing set-up. In addition, the system was placed between Friday and Sunday for customer convenience with no impact on production.
Jimi Godin, Continuous Improvement and Operational Excellence Manager at Trouw Nutrition’s Ramsay Hatchery, oversaw the placement: “It was a flawless installation, and we’ve seen a very impressive speed gain. The delivery trucks have been able to arrive around four hours earlier than what we would have expected with manual sexing.”
Ali Matloub, Director of Technical Sales and Business at TARGAN explains: “It’s an industry-wide challenge to deliver sexed birds to customers in a timely manner. What Trouw Nutrition has managed to achieve for their customers opens the door for potential growth.”
Godin continues: “So far, I am very impressed with TARGAN’s responsiveness and professionalism. I feel this is already becoming a strong and successful partnership.”
Trouw Nutrition is a belonging of Nutreco, the global producer of animal nutrition and fish feed. Trouw Nutrition has a more than 90-year history of innovation in animal nutrition, developing smart and sustainable ways to help raise healthy farm animals. CORNWALL – Citing a change in demographics, fewer people going to church and a lack of French-speaking priests, the Diocese of Alexandria-Cornwall will be closing one of its parishes this weekend.
The final Mass in the Roman Catholic church of Sainte-Croix on Anthony Street will be held Saturday (Jan. 7).
It’s one of three French language parishes serving the eastern section of Cornwall.
Followers will then go to Saint-Felix-de-Valois on Glengarry Boulevard. The third parish is the Nativity Co-Cathedral on Montreal Road.
In a statement, Archibishop Terrence Prendergast said it was a difficult decision to close the church, which was founded in 1954.
“Closing a parish is never an easy thing and causes pain to many,” Prendergast said.
“The parish church is where many of the most significant family events have taken place, baptisms, marriages, funerals, so it’s a hard thing to see the building close. It is my great hope that the reunification of these two parishes will allow for one vibrant parish with stronger evangelization and faith formation, as well as an effective administration and stewardship of the resources of the unified parish,” he said.
The church will take a few months to decide what to do with the Anthony Street church.

Ontario – A structural “problem” with the choir loft at Nativity Co-Cathedral has temporarily resulted in the closure of the venerable house of worship
The Diocese of Alexandria-Cornwall released a statement Monday afternoon detailing the closure of the church
which means the cancellation of Christmas and New Year’s masses as well
“The parish has granted a contract to a professional engineering consulting firm to investigate the situation fully and recommend remedial action,” read the statement from the diocese
“They will begin their assessment the first week of January. This action is being taken to ensure the safety of the public. The Co-Cathedral will reopen as soon as any required corrective measures can be implemented.”
In an interview diocese chancellor Kimberly Walsh said the choir loft is in need of some bracing to guard against failure
“There’s no imminent danger,” she said
“It’s just a recent issue.”
The facility dates back to 1887 and Walsh said the organ was installed in 1914
Christmas and New Year’s Masses will be as follows:
The Mass on Christmas Eve will be celebrated at St-Félix-de-Valois Church at 7:30 pm
There will be a single Mass on Christmas day for the three French east end parishes at St-Félix-de-Valois Church at 10:30 am
There will be a single Mass on New Year’s Eve for the three French east end parishes at St-Félix-de-Valois at 5:00 pm
Bishop Marcel will preside. There will be a single Mass on New Year’s Day for the three French east end parishes at Ste-Croix Chuch at 10:30 am

The main altarpiece of San Ildefonso is part of an important set of baroque altarpieces that are preserved in the church of the convent of the Barefoot Trinitarias of San Ildefonso
this being the only one that had not been restored
This great baroque wooden work was settled in 1739
although it was not gilded and polychrome until 1767
In its central street the Imposition of the chasuble to San Ildefonso
In the side streets we find the round-shaped sculptures attributed to Manuel Correa de San Juan de Mata y Saint Felix de Valois and in the attic a relief of the Holy Trinity flanked by two great angels
Coinciding with the IV anniversary of the death of Cervantes
a cleaning and consolidation of the altarpiece was carried out
The main altarpiece of the church of the Convent of the Barefoot Trinitaries of San Ildefonso is a large piece
The lower part consists of a bench with four shelves
on which rests a structured body on three streets separated by giant columns of composite order with attached elements
In the central street there is a half-pointed niche where the relief that represents the central theme is the Imposition of the chasuble to San Ildefonso
Under this a tabernacle is located as a temple
As in much of the altarpieces of the first half of the eighteenth century
In the side streets we find on two corbels two sculptures of round shape attributed to Manuel Correa that represent Trinitarian saints
founder of the order and Saint Felix de Valois
come from the old Mercenarios Descalzos convent in Madrid
in the attic is a relief of the Holy Trinity
crowned with a large tarja and flanked by two large angels exempt kneeling on the split pediment
The decoration is supported by the use of elements of relief such as heads of cherubs
plant elements and rockery that give life to a well-underlined architecture that adapts to the space of the head of the temple
The elements stand out for their balance and proportion
while the different planes contribute to creating dynamism through the gradation of lights and shadows
creating a work that follows the line of the altarpieces of the Toledo master Tomé
The altarpiece is the work of assembler Manuel Mesa
the person in charge of setting it up was Francisco Ruiz
master builder of the convent that was being built at that time
endowed the work with brightness and color
The main altarpiece of San Ildefonso is part of an important set of baroque altarpieces that are conserved in the church of the convent of the Barefoot Trinitarios of San Ildefonso
Detail Imposition of the chasuble to San Ildefonso
In the central street there is a half-pointed niche where this relief is located
from the old convent of Mercenarios Descalzos de Madrid
In the attic there is a relief of the Holy Trinity
Although the work was not in a very bad state of conservation
The use of candles as a means of lighting in the past had caused small deposits of wax and even some burns in the polychrome
the movements of contraction and expansion of the wood had caused a lack of consistency of the preparation
generating partial losses of the polychrome layer
also appreciating volume and fragmentation gaps
It was the only altarpiece in the church that had not been intervened
Coinciding with the IV centenary of the death of Miguel de Cervantes
in anticipation of a considerable increase in the number of visitors who would go to the burial site of the writer
it was considered necessary to restore this piece to achieve the integral recovery of the temple
The intervention consisted in the first place in a consolidation of the pictorial layer to avoid greater losses of polychromy and a consolidation of the structure in the damaged points
realizing a fixation by means of spikes of fiberglass and adhesives
the surface of dirt not adhered with brushes and suction
repaints and wax drips of the candles were removed
a chromatic reintegration was carried out in the areas of greatest loss that made it difficult to see the whole using watercolor after a leveling of the preparation layer
The restoration of the work has allowed the altarpiece to recover its original appearance
thanks to these works has been discovered a signature on the auction of the altarpiece "Pedro Bozal / year of 1768"
belonging to a teacher who intervened in the altarpiece

Sainte-Croix Parish to Merge with Saint-Félix-de-Valois
the final Mass will be celebrated in the Roman Catholic church of Sainte-Croix
1954 when it was detached from the parish of Saint-Félix-de-Valois
the church building will officially cease to be a Catholic place of worship and the parishioners of Sainte-Croix will once again become parishioners of Saint-Félix-de-Valois
Saint-Félix-de-Valois and the Cocathédrale de la Nativité
fewer people attending church on a regular basis and a lack of French speaking priests
it had become clear that three Francophone parishes were no longer needed
After consultation over several years with both the parishioners of the affected parishes and the Council of Priests
the Apostolic Administrator of the Diocese of Alexandria-Cornwall
made the difficult decision to close Sainte-Croix
“Closing a parish is never an easy thing and causes pain to many,” said Archbishop Prendergast
“The parish church is where many of the most significant family events have taken place
so it’s a hard thing to see the building close
It is my great hope that the reunification of these two parishes will allow for one vibrant parish with stronger evangelization and faith formation
as well as an effective administration and stewardship of the resources of the unified parish.”
The future use of the church building will be determined in the coming months

The vast majority of those in the church are senior citizens and very few young people
Young people are leaving – no work spells disaster and Cornwall is losing everything thanks to the dirty clique that needs to be eliminated
Cornwall will not survive as long as this continues
Old people die off and nobody young to replace
People are finally starting to wake up and walk away from these asinine institutions
Furtz God knows what is going on and is in control
Things are going to get a great deal worse than what people think
I no longer go to church but I am a very firm believer in God and nothing will change that
Society is tearing the world apart and Trump said that things were going to get a great deal worse while running and he was right
About five years ago I read a book and I won’t say what it was but people on line told me not to go any further but I finished the book and then later I found out that so much of the book was true and so much more that I found out and one time a certain dictator who is famous went to the Vatican and ran out in fright
I won’t say more because people will turn against the faith and I don’t want
Furtz you don’t turn against God for the things that people do
I am very very firm in what I believe in and God sure does exist
People today are under demonic possession – yes laugh Furtz laugh but this is all very true
Your wacky jules has not lost it – many times I wish that I was crazy where I would not feel anything
If the people knew what I know the churches would be completely empty
God I wish many times that I never knew what I know
My parents would literally roll in their graves if they knew what I know
This world is one that they could never be able to live in
It is getting worse and worse and worse until Jesus comes back
St therese on 13st is a french church its doing ok still go to church
