The Amriswil volleyball team are Swiss champions for the sixth time. The team from Thurgau decided the play-off final against defending champions Schönenwerd in their favor in the quickest possible way. With a 3:2 home win (25:22, 25:17, 28:30, 22:25, 15:11) in game 3, Volley Amriswil secured the double of championship and cup for the fourth time. As winners of the qualifiers and the Champions Round, Juan Manuel Serramalera's team lived up to its role as favorites and also ended its "Schönenwerd trauma". In the last two years, Amriswil and its Argentinian coach had each failed to reach the play-off final against the team from Solothurn - both times with 2:3 victories. Two years ago, Volley Amriswil led 2:0 in the final series and was 2:0 sets ahead in the third game before Schönenwerd initiated a turnaround that was no longer thought possible, culminating in the first championship title in the club's history for the team from Solothurn. Such a miracle failed to materialize this time, even though Amriswil was also shaking a little this year at 2:0 sets in the third game. However, the Thurgau side were unable to make a decisive break from the championship course - and so the impressive career of pass player Reto Giger did not come to a crowning conclusion. The long-serving captain of the Swiss national team and popular figure at Volley Schönenwerd is retiring at the age of 33. Volley Amriswil finally managed to win the championship at the third attempt with coach Juan Manuel Serramalera. The signing of Iliya Goldrin from the German Bundesliga proved to be a stroke of luck for the team from Eastern Switzerland. The Israeli winger was his team's top scorer and was deservedly named the most valuable player (MVP) of this NLA season. Goldrin recently extended his contract with the new Swiss champions by two years. • KhMOMM Yerevan and MSKH Yerevan claim women’s and men’s national cup trophies in Armenia • Omonoia Nicosia claim men’s golden treble in Cyprus • Nantes Reze Metropole Volley achieve historic success by winning first men’s cup in France • Olympiacos Piraeus’ men’s team triumph in Greece Cup for the 17th time • Active Living Orion Doetinchem and Apollo 8 Borne earn men’s and women’s Netherlands Cup trophies • Volley Amriswil and Viteos Neuchatel win national cup crowns in Switzerland In six European countries, nine national cup tournaments came to an end within the eight days between Sunday, 31 March, and Sunday, 7 April.  On the last day of March, Armenia celebrated its cup winners in both women’s and men’s volleyball.
