BEV intercity bus Mercedes eIntouro successfully passed its first customer test drive at the beginning of April
one of the first series production vehicles will then be used on one of the Rustexpress lines
It’s reported in a press note shared by Daimler Truck
The eIntouro will celebrate its world premiere at the Busworld Europe 2025 trade fair in Brussels in October and will mark the debut of Daimler Buses in the nascent intercity electric bus market
The start of production is planned for 2026
it’s equipped with a different set of battery and driveline than the eCitaro range
made of LFP batteries and central motor by ZF
It’ll be produced in the OEM’s plants in Turkey and in France
Two lengths will be available: the 12.18-metre eIntouro and the 13.09-metre eIntouro M
Seating variants from 50 to a maximum of 63 seats are covered
The near-production prototype of the all-electric Mercedes eIntouro interurban bus is based on the diesel-powered Intouro
but is equipped with a battery-electric drive with LFP batteries and a central motor instead
Daimler Buses is able to switch to electric mobility for the first time for interurban routes
Sales and Customer Services at Daimler Buses
all newly developed vehicle types at Daimler Buses have to go through a very extensive testing phase
This naturally also applies to the new eIntouro
We test the driving characteristics of the bus under a wide range of conditions
such as the recent winter test at the Arctic Circle at up to minus 30 degrees
this also includes extensive testing in real customer applications
This test drive in collaboration with Eurobus
is the first of many in which the eIntouro will prove its performance and reliability.”
to which Eurobus belongs: “Together with Europa-Park
we are working on concepts to make Rustexpress journeys even more climate-friendly
Our regular shuttle operations involve a single journey of 200 to 300 kilometres with a subsequent waiting time of several hours
It makes sense to utilise this waiting time and therefore to operate the route with electric intercity buses used as coaches
The Mercedes‑Benz eIntouro is the first electric bus to meet our requirements in terms of seating
The Eurobus Group is a pioneer in the operation of electric buses for local public transport and will use this know-how productively for the intercity bus
That’s why we are very interested in this mobility solution.”

The ceremony took place during the small town of Bassersdorf's annual spring celebration
Switzerland builds a "Boogg" -- a large doll that's set alight for Sechselauten
an annual celebration at the end of April and the beginning of spring
Typically, a Boogg is created to represent a snowman and is meant to signify the end of winter. In the past, Bassersdorf has opted to go in a different direction. Instead of winter, Basserdorf has created its effigies to represent people who they deem negative, including dictators like Kim Jong-Un and Muammar al-Gaddafi, according to LGBTQ Nation
This year, the town created one in the likeness of a trans woman
which it called the "Diversity Boogg"
The Boogg was dressed in a rainbow skirt and red tie. It had long blond hair and makeup on one side of its face, while the other had short, curly dark hair. It also had visible breasts and a penis, the latter of which was meant to be revealed by wind, Zuri Today reports
"When it blew up the Boogg's skirt
many spectators grinned," master of ceremonies Christian Weiss told the outlet
you can now choose the gender from a wide range of options," Weiss explained
"It was the same with the Boogg this year
It has different features and there is something for everyone."
Weiss explained that the intention was to focus on a current event but they felt that anything about the ongoing pandemic or the war in Ukraine would be too sad
they opted for the "happy fun" idea of burning a trans woman in effigy
Weiss said that they're simply reading too much into it
He explained that it's not an attack on any one person
but rather a statement against "rampant narcissistic hypersensitivity and the pathological lack of humor."
issued a statement apologizing to anyone whose feelings were hurt by the event or for whom "the action triggered different opinions on this sensitive topic." She stated that she didn't believe that was the intent
"I am convinced that those responsible did not want to offend anyone but wanted to draw attention to the topic of diversity," Meier said
There was one 82-year-old resident who didn't find the effigy burning to be "happy fun" and instead filed a criminal complaint against the municipal county
calling the ceremony "inhuman" and saying that the "distorted image" affects a particularly stigmatized group of people
The local prosecutor hasn't pressed charges based on the complaint. However, the resident also reported the ceremony to the Equal Opportunities Office of the Canton of Zurich, its director Helena Trachsel told local media, according to Queer.de
"Any degrading gesture that violates a person's integrity is inadmissible," she said
referring to the Equality Act and anti-discrimination regulations in Switzerland
"The municipal council has to think for everyone

Selective ablation rates of the system's two lasers (UV and COw) result in quality improvements
The CO2 laser's superior absorption properties in glass fibers leads to consistent and complete via opening in inhomogeneous glass-reinforced dielectrics
It also offers significantly improved accuracy when stopping the creation of a blind via exactly on the landing pad
thus avoiding electrical shorts caused by pad shoot-through

SWITZERLAND: During June Swiss Federal Railways is to undertake public consultation on plans to build a new double-track line including a 9 km tunnel which
would provide a total of four tracks between Zürich and Winterthur
The new alignment would offer faster journey times and a 30% increase in capacity to facilitate an increase in services to 900 S-Bahn and long-distance trains per day on the route
MehrSpur Zürich–Winterthur is the largest project within the federal government’s Ausbauschritt 2035 rail investment programme
The main element of the project would be the construction of the Brüttener tunnel to provide a more direct route than the existing line
this would have two 10 m diameter single track bores linked by 20 cross passages
The northern end of the tunnel would be at Tössmühle near Winterthur
Near the southern end the tunnel would split into branches
one towards Bassersdorf and the airport and the other to Dietlikon and Zürich HB
The new alignment would include flying junctions with the existing lines
Wallisellen and Winterthur Töss stations would also be modernised
Journey times from Zürich Stadelhofen to Winterthur would be reduced by 2 to 4 min and from Zürich Flughafen to Winterthur by 3 to 4 min
The fastest services between Zürich HB and Winterthur over the new alignment would take 16 min
A definitive timescale for construction is to be drawn up once the government has given the go-ahead for the project
but it is envisaged that main works could start in the mid-2020s for opening in the mid-2030s
to be financed by the Railway Infrastructure Fund which is funded by the federal government and cantons
SWITZERLAND: ‘We have to invest today in the mobility of tomorrow’
Zürich councillor Michael Baumer said when city transport operator VBZ presented a network expansion strategy which includes plans to increase the number of passengers by 40% by 2040
Baumer said major investments in the tram ..
SWITZERLAND: The Ministry of Transport has set out details of plans to enhance or rebuild key sections of the national rail network under legislation due to be passed in 2026 that will define further stages in the national long-term railway investment programme
SWITZERLAND: The Federal Council has put forward proposals for a further long-term programme of investment in the national rail network. Enhancement of the existing network to allow more intensive use is now seen as preferable to starting more major infrastructure projects

Andreas Hügli and Gian Andri Diem thought that the large areas of the water basins at the sewage treatment plants would also be suitable
especially since they are usually built somewhat out of the way and are not very sensitive to the landscape
They did not let themselves be stopped when the sewage treatment plant operators declared that access to the basins must continue to be guaranteed during renovations or operational work
Hügli and Diem founded the company dhp technology AG in 2015 and began to further develop a retractable folding roof for solar energy use that was suitable for these demanding requirements
the first solar folding roof was realized on the wastewater treatment plant in Chur
and in the meantime eleven systems have been delivered
parking areas are also very well suited for solar production
A folding solar roof was installed on the parking lot of the Kronberg mountain railroad; it supplies electric mobility with renewable electricity and also provides shade for drivers on hot summer days
The plant components of the solar folding roof are assembled by the aforementioned company in its own production and put together at the treatment plants
The company's specialists also take care of the operation of the solar folding roof and the permanent check via digital monitoring and can thus guarantee safe operation and constantly optimize the electricity production
Hügli and Diem are convinced of their product; this is also reflected in the fact that they give a 25-year warranty on the solar modules
the solar folding roof retracts and extends when it should
and it covers 20% of our electricity consumption as planned," Curdin Hedinger from ARA Chur was already able to report on the first pilot system
This is also confirmed by operations manager Markus Wendler from ARA Davos
because more solar power can be produced in the mountains than in the lowlands
especially in winter when the demand for electricity is high: "Even when it snows
the folding roof remains protected thanks to the weather-controlled retraction mechanism and can then supply power again with the first rays of sunshine." The wastewater treatment plant operators particularly appreciate that on hot days
the personnel are protected from heat under the folding solar roof and that wastewater treatment improves because the shade reduces algae growth in the secondary clarifiers
The responsible persons of the ARA Bassersdorf had the possibilities of solar energy clarified by the specialist Simone Bützer of the engineering office Hunziker Betatech AG in 2019
The investigations showed that with the solar folding roof over the basins of the biology
the preclarification and the secondary clarification 261'000 kWh/a electricity can be produced
partly small buildings 61'000 kWh/a as well as on the fence 23'000 kWh/a
this results in a total electricity production of 345'000 kWh/a
which corresponds to 33% of the total electricity demand of the ARA
additional electricity consumption for the elimination of micropollution (EMC)
a pre-selection was made based on an economic analysis
For a photovoltaic (PV) system on the largest roof of the various buildings
including operating costs and taking into account the current subsidy) were calculated at 13 to 15 Rp./kWh and for the folded solar roof (without the primary clarifier) at 15 to 17 Rp./kWh
about three quarters of the total solar potential can be used
250'000 kWh/a renewable electricity can be generated annually and 23% of the total electricity demand of the ARA can be covered (cf
What was also interesting about the clarifications was that the prime costs have already fallen in the past four years by around 15% for the PV and even by around 40% for the folding solar roof
Because in the first study in 2015 with a massive steel construction over the basins
the amortization costs still amounted to 26 to 30 Rp./kWh
It may be assumed that this trend of falling costs will continue - albeit at a slower rate
a west-east design can be used to balance solar power production and weather forecasting tools can be used to increase the usable portion for the wastewater treatment plant's own power consumption
The economic efficiency of solar plants depends on the one hand on the investment and operating costs
the size of the system and the subsoil for safe statics of the comparatively light steel construction play an important role
the financial savings from electricity production depend very much on the usable portion for one's own electricity needs
the prices for electricity purchases or the feed-back tariffs
It is not enough to look only at today's electricity prices
It must be taken into account that electricity prices are likely to rise over the next 25 to 30 years. And let's not forget the various subsidies available (including from the respective canton), www.pronovo.ch)
it is important to consider the overall benefits
because the public sector has an exemplary function
the staff benefits from shade as well as weather protection
and the sewage treatment plant benefits from reduced algae growth
Including the demand for the elimination of micropollutants
wastewater treatment plants in Switzerland consume around 500 million kWh of electricity annually and are among the largest municipal electricity consumers
Around 20% of this is covered by the plant's own electricity production by means of combined heat and power (CHP) plants using sewage gas
By operational increase of the sewage gas quantity
improved efficiencies of the BHKW this portion can be still increased and on the other hand by electricity saving measures the external electricity purchase
A first rough projection by InfraWatt has shown that with the solar folding roof over the basins and PV on the roofs of the buildings
the wastewater treatment plants could generate another 110 million kWh/a of electricity (see Figure 2)
The implementation of the solar potential alone would be equivalent to the electricity consumption of all municipal administration buildings in Switzerland and
at future electricity prices of 20 Rp./kWh
would generate savings of 550 million Swiss francs for the wastewater treatment plants over the next 25 years
This would also be worth investing in energy measures
whereby concrete projects with the solar folding roof can be realized quickly and cost-effectively
especially in parking lots and sewage treatment plants

The Zug team will face Bassersdorf in the SWHL B playoff final on Saturday
Three victories separate the EVZ Women’s Team from the SWHL B championship title
The first final game is scheduled for Saturday at the BOSSARD Arena (game starts at 7 p.m.)
the best-of-five series continues in Kloten at 6.45 p.m
If the Zug team – after the quarter-finals and semi-finals – also wins this series as quickly as possible
they would be able to celebrate the championship title at home on March 13 (game starts at 7.45 p.m.).In this case
Chiara Pfosi could keep her celebratory mood alive
Because the EVZ goalie turns 26 the day before
has already gained experience in the top league this season
She was loaned out to Fribourg-Gottéron with a B license
I had a lot more shots to stop than at EVZ,” she says
goalkeepers Chiara Pfosi and Eveliina Mäkinen have to overcome the major challenge of staying focused despite rare tests
“We push each other,” says Chiara Pfosi
She has no shortage of positive external stimuli
she comes from a family of ice hockey champions: Her grandfather Hans won seven titles with EHC Arosa
Her brother Lane also defends for SC Langenthal
Chiara Pfosi lived in the USA for several years
She came to EVZ to stay: She recently extended her expiring contract by one year
“There were other options in Switzerland,” says the goalkeeper

Dubious car dealers, strange brokers, allegedly corrupt inspectors and the question: Have the authorities' controls failed?
8 min Share Ahmed Hamib (name changed) pretends he doesn’t know anything. Corrupt traffic experts? He doesn't know any, he claims on the phone. Desperate learner drivers? Something he's only heard of. He was just helping out a few people back then, says the Syrian, who also used to own a pizzeria in the Zurich Unterland. All of that is in the past anyway, he works in the removals business now, he tells us. «Today I have other problems.»
«Back then,» that was in the fall of 2020.
The public prosecutor's office suspects Ahmed Hamib of having belonged to a bribery ring in the car industry. As an intermediary, he allegedly ensured that traffic experts at the road traffic office turned a blind eye during driving tests. In return, he supposedly received monetary payments.
Hamib was allegedly part of a parallel world. A world in which cars are far more than just cars. And where testers and testees share something: their fascination with cars, which are a status symbol, the center of their lives, a hobby and a source of income – cars, fuel, money.
In theory, these two worlds should be strictly separated – that of the auditors and that of the auditees. But apparently not everyone adhered to these boundaries.
The car scene has been rocked by several scandals in recent months. The case concerns employees of the Zurich Road Traffic Office who allegedly accepted bribes. But it is also about a TCS vehicle inspector, dubious car dealers and private car owners who allegedly only pretended to test cars.
And then there are men like Ahmed Hamib – alleged mediators between the bribe-taking auditors and those willing to pay for the approval they or their cars need.
At the heart of the matter is one question: Has a criminal milieu developed around the Road Traffic Office that has been exchanging «favors» – and no one was paying attention?
The story begins in Bassersdorf in the Zurich Unterland. In a now legally binding penalty order, the public prosecutor's office records what allegedly happened there. In October 2020, Ahmed Hamib received a call from a desperate young man who had already failed his driving test three times.
According to the penalty order, Ahmed Hamib allegedly received 2,000 francs in cash from him. In return, Hamib organized an appointment for a driving test with a benevolent traffic expert. The traffic expert received 500 francs. A few months later, the young man received an appointment for his driving test in Bassersdorf. And everything went according to plan: The traffic expert let the man pass.
It is unclear how many people Ahmed Hamib has «helped» in this way. He himself refuses to comment on the matter. It also remains unclear who was behind the bribery ring and how much money was involved. Hamib is silent on this as well.
But one thing is certain: In November 2021, the operation was exposed. Three employees of the Road Traffic Office in Bassersdorf abruptly lost their jobs. The office filed a criminal complaint, and the public prosecutor opened an investigation.
Since then, the office, which is part of the security directorate of government councilor Mario Fehr, has kept a low profile. Even in the place where it all began.
Behind the test hall in Bassersdorf, employees of the Road Traffic Office meet at a bar table for a snack break. «They told us not to talk,» one man grumbles. And then he hints at a few things anyway. It was a shock when the whole thing came to light, he says. He is disappointed in his former colleagues.
«Nobody would have expected something like this.» In any case, his former colleagues’ behavior wasn’t really conspicuous, he adds. «At least they’re gone now,» says the man, with a slightly pained smile. Then he falls silent.
But the affair is far from over. On the contrary, research shows that the extent of the case is greater than originally assumed. The Basserdorf site is not the only one with allegedly corrupt employees. The Administrative Measures department has also become the focus of investigators.
The department deals with road traffic violations, for instance when drivers have their license revoked because they were speeding or driving under the influence of alcohol.
The Zurich public prosecutor's office confirmed on request that it is conducting criminal proceedings against several people in connection with irregularities at the Administrative Measures Department, including one employee. The public prosecutor's office did not provide any further details. The man no longer works for the authority in question.
According to a well-informed source, the man was caught by investigators during a setup handover of an envelope containing cash. The man is suspected to have demanded money in exchange for making concessions regarding license withdrawals.
The bribery affair at the Zurich Road Traffic Office is not the only thing causing a stir. At the end of October, the police broke up a car fraud ring operating throughout Switzerland, which is said to have included around 30 people. The authorities conducted house searches and arrested twelve people in the cantons of Solothurn, Bern, Aargau and Zurich, including car dealers, private individuals and an expert from the Swiss Touring Club (TCS).
The TCS carries out motor vehicle inspections on behalf of the cantons. In the case of the fraud ring, those involved are accused of not checking older and defective cars properly. The cars were then redeemed and sold as officially inspected secondhand vehicles in various cantons. The suspects are being investigated for fraud, forgery of documents and official misconduct.
Three cases, several dozen suspects: The events shed light on a special world. One that involves a lot of money.
The Swiss Automobile Trade Association, the industry association for garage owners, explains the events as follows: There are many people in the used car trade who work with «semiprofessional» structures. «The boundaries between private and business are blurred from time to time.» Motor vehicle inspections sometimes require expensive repairs. «This increases the motivation to look for cheaper alternatives.»
The association distances itself from these practices. It is assumed that the people who have potentially acted unlawfully are not members of the association, they emphasize.
One observer of the scene puts it this way: «People know each other. They negotiate with each other. They sit at the same table in their free time. That makes things more flexible. And obviously tempts some people to earn some extra money through illegal channels.» And once the virus is in, it's almost impossible to get it out, they add.
Another, with decades of experience in the industry, recounts how people would sometimes drop by and leave 1,000 franc notes on the table in an effort to gain his favor. «I always told them: ‹I think you forgot something.›» In the past, people wouldn't have dared to do that, he adds. But today, the man says, this kind of thing happens from time to time.
It is a highly idiosyncratic world that has emerged here over the years. And it would hardly be conceivable without men like Ali Yasin (name changed). Like Ahmed Hamib, he is said to have been one of the mediators in this game for power, money and goodwill at the road traffic office.
Yasin lives in an outdated property on Rosengartenstrasse in Zurich. Those who live here cannot be squeamish. Outside, the four-lane road roars; inside it smells of stale sweat and cheap deodorant. Each room is rented individually. The young men from Syria and Afghanistan who live here have few demands.
The residents remain anonymous; there is hardly a name on the bell at the entrance. Except for one: Ali Yasin.
There are many indications that the young man acted as a link between migrants who desperately want a driver's license and corrupt traffic experts.
When the NZZ visits his apartment, one of Yasin's roommates opens the door. We are told that Yasin isn’t home and that we should try calling him later. When the young man finally answers his phone, he doesn't want to say anything. He has already told the authorities everything, Yasin says. He doesn't want to talk about the system. He tells us to ask the experts at the road traffic office. «I'm not scared,» he says, but for him the matter is now over.
This leaves many questions unanswered: When did the irregularities begin? Who started the case? How much money was involved? Were there connections between the individual cases? And: Have the control mechanisms at the TCS and the Road Traffic Office failed?
There are no answers yet. Because neither the TCS nor the Road Traffic Office want to say much. The TCS writes on request that it does not tolerate any criminal behavior and is cooperating fully with the authorities. The transport association declines to answer more specific questions.
The response at the Zurich Road Traffic Office is similar. When asked, a spokesperson replies: «The Road Traffic Office obviously has functioning control mechanisms in place.» If potential abuses or irregularities are identified or indications of such are received, comprehensive checks are initiated immediately and appropriate measures taken, they add. «This also applies in terms of personnel law.»
Further investigations will show whether these control mechanisms were really sufficient.
