A 39-year-old man sold airline tickets that were never issued through a fake travel agency at Zurich Airport – more than 50 people fell for his scam
The fraudster has now received a suspended two-year prison sentence from the Bülach District Court

the Bülach District Court handed a 39-year-old airline ticket fraudster a suspended two-year prison sentence
The man had gained the trust of travelers by operating a professional-looking ticket counter at Zurich Airport
where he issued fake reservation confirmations
many customers never received actual tickets
The court concluded that the defendant acted with clear intent to unlawfully enrich himself
He reportedly spent around 10,000 Swiss francs per month
with some of the funds flowing directly into his personal account
The court found it particularly serious that the man continued to sell tickets even while criminal proceedings were ongoing
a COVID-related credit fraud case involving another company
The two-year prison sentence will be served on a five-year probationary period
the man has been ordered to pay a fine of 1,500 Swiss francs and to compensate the victims with verifiable damages
the total damage amounts to approximately 140,000 Swiss francs
According to the Swiss national with Bosnian roots
he quickly ran into financial difficulties after starting his business and tried to pay off old debts with new sales
He told the court he had always intended to repay the full amount—but many of his victims remain skeptical
Some of the more than 50 victims attended the trial
accusing the defendant of showing no remorse and putting on an act
One woman testified that he had even come to her home to sell the alleged tickets
She was forced to borrow money from family and friends—now she's demanding “every penny” back
According to statements from the private plaintiffs
many victims were drawn in through personal contacts or word-of-mouth recommendations
they were individuals of foreign origin hoping to secure low-cost flights for summer vacations
Some were even encouraged to recruit new customers in exchange for a discount
there was silence in the courtroom – the victims present received the verdict just as motionlessly as the defendant himself

Banging the gears in your race car is a badge of honor that many racers love to wear with pride
There’s something to be said about skillfully ripping through your shifts down the track at a high rate of speed
Ray Bulach has been pushing the limits of a manually-shifted GM transmission for a while now
and now has reset his own record to a blistering 8.33-seconds at over 168 mph during the 2015 Holley LS Fest at the Beech Bend Raceway Park
Bulach made some changes to his combination this year to assist in resetting the record he set last year
A new 376 cubic inch LSX-based motor from Texas Speed with PRC cylinder heads rests between the front fenders in 2015 to motivate the Camaro
The CRT 76mm turbo still provides the 23 pounds of boost and makes a whole bunch of noise doing it
Bulach’s car could very well dip into the seven-second zone later this season
Taking the abuse from this combo is a Monster billet triple disc clutch, Driveshaft Shop carbon fiber driveshaft and a RPM Transmissions-built T-56.Helping to plant that power is a full Midwest Chassis suspension with assistance from a set of AFCO shocks at all corners
In this amazing footage from Bigkleib34 you get to see all the angles of Bulach’s record-setting pass from outside and inside his blue beast
On each run you get to see just how much of a wheelman Bulach is
as he rips gears and saws on the wheel like a dirt sprint car driver

A joint venture between The University of Melbourne and The Royal Melbourne Hospital
Dr Dieter Bulach is the newly appointed EMBL Austrlaian Bioinformatics Resource (EMBL-ABR) Activity Lead for Prokaryotes Bioinformatics
He works on a range of public health projects at the Doherty Institute as part of the EMBL-ABR: VLSCI Node based at The University of Melbourne
Dr Bulach specialises in both microbiology and bioinformatics
working on several major projects dealing with viruses and bacteria
What is bioinformatics for you and why it does it matter
Bioinformatics for me is analysis of DNA sequence from bacteria and viruses – just a very small part of a very broad field
The diminishing cost of sequencing and the rapidly expanding public data resources are changing the way we do microbiology
enabling scientists to be much more strategic about the allocation of their ‘wet lab’ resources
What are the challenges you see for life scientists / medical researchers in the data driven science era
Ensuring that scientists have access to these data resources
that there is greater recognition of the value of these resources in and researchers are capable of using them
Would you say this is different for actual bioinformaticians
it is that our knowledge of data resources and analysis methods as well as our strategies for discovery are recognised as an important core contribution to research – not merely a service to research
Our discipline needs to contribute to establishing good protocols for storing and providing ongoing access to data to ensure researchers can see the value we add in making that data from a broad range of sources easily accessed and efficiently used
Open data is publicly available and easily accessible data
Data that should be part of the ‘open data’ resources are those basic datasets that enable the work in a research publication to be reproduced
Domain specific public/open data resources dictate the best way the data should be published into the open data environment to make it accessible
In time – data might be ‘published’ as soon as it is generated
that is now emerging as a way of initiating collaborations
What is currently missing in the field of bioinformatics AND life sciences
The need for a ‘critical mass’ community and national resources for bioinformatics has been a recognised necessity since the early 1990s (ANGIS)
It is still an absolute necessity – I hope that EMBL-ABR can grow to meet this national requirement
but what would you like to see EMBL-ABR become
A partner/broker in research that plays a key role in ensuring the competitiveness of Australian research through EMBL-ABR being a local
accessible organisation that is taking a ‘world’s best practice’ approach to bioinformatics

You may remember Ray Bulach’s blue Camaro that set the GM six-speed record at 8.63 at 178 mph a couple of years ago
that same Camaro has continued to improve in both setup and ET and now has smashed its own record once again with an 8.06 at 181 mph—tantalizingly close to the 7s
When we first caught up with the fourth-gen Camaro and Ray
the car was running an iron-block 364 cubic inch setup with a 7675 turbo stuffing 27 psi down the mill’s throat
the car had just recently made 1,000 rwhp at 23 psi and they decided to turn it up a bit for the car’s debut run at the Street Car Takeover in Indianapolis
having only made 10 previous passes on the turbo setup
and Bulach even remarked that even he didn’t know what it was capable of because he hadn’t “run it out the back door yet.” He also mentioned that he was still dialing in the tune at the time
the car ended up breaking the GM six-speed record with an 8.63 at 158 mph pass—beating out the previous record of 8.69
Not bad for a car that was still technically doing some shake down passes
The second time we caught a glimpse of this badass six-speed car was back in September of 2015, at Holley LS Fest. While the car was still running the 76 mm turbo that it had set the original record with, the engine had been ditched in favor of a 367 cubic inch mill from Texas Speed & Performance. The setup was good enough for an 8.33 at 168 mph. Later, in an interview with BigKlieb
Bulach mentioned that he’d take the car “as far as the RPM T56 will take me
we’ll keep pushing the combo and see how low we can go with it.” Sentiments that were not soon forgotten by Bulach
The car even still has the loudest two-step we’ve ever heard in place
the car was making well north of 1,200 rwhp
The fact that this car is still running a six-speed is a testament to Bulach’s iron will to take the car faster than any manual GM car before it
You’ve got to give this guy respect for even being able to get the car down the track with that much power
much less getting it to put all of that power to the ground
For anyone out there that still says “manuals impress high school girls
It’s only a matter of time before this fourth-gen becomes the first six-speed GM car to ever go 7s—and that’s pretty damn impressive in a stick car

At least 50 people were injured after two passenger trains collided in Switzerland’s Zurich canton Friday morning
According to Switzerland’s Neue Zurcher Zeitung
the accident took place in Bulach district’s Rafz town at around 4.45 a.m
The cause of the accident is still unknown
and train services between Bulach and Schaffhausen were cancelled
MySports League-team EHC Bülach adds EHC Winterthur-forward Jan Lee Hartmann to their roster for the upcoming season
Hartmann already suited up on loan for EHC Bülach a few years back, for two games in the 2013-2014 season and for seven games a year later. The 22-year-old was with EHC Kloten at that time, where he stayed for two more years before joining EHC Winterthur
scoring three goals and adding eight assists
EHC Bülach also announced other roster updates, such as extensions for netminder Gianluca Hauser, defenseman Roman Bucher and forwards Robin Ganz and Scott Halberstadt, as well as the signings of brothers Marvin (from EHC Dübendorf) and Nico Alena (from the organization of the SC Rapperswil-Jona Lakers)
The founding partners of the Luxembourg office of Pinsent Masons
International law firm Pinsent Masons opened an office in Luxembourg on 1 July
integrating a large part of local firm Wildgen and with a focus on the financial sector
Luxembourg on Friday became the seventh office in continental Europe of the full service firm Pinsent Masons
Its presence in the US market is achieved through collaborations with third-party partner firms
“The partners of the two firms had been working together regularly for several years on various matters and when Pinsent Masons’ intention to set up an office in Luxembourg became apparent
we explored this option with the partners and associates and ultimately realised this opening,” said partner at Pinsent Masons and managing partner of the new local office
This opening is in line with the desire of the London-based integrated law firm
to continue its international expansion by exploiting the specific dynamics of each jurisdiction
the financial centre and the fund industry in particular are a logical priority
especially for the firm’s existing clients in Ireland
“Financial services is one of the five pillars on which the firm is built
The partners and teams in Luxembourg will primarily focus their services on this pillar,” said Bulach
“The strategy of Pinsent Masons is set at a global level
The same goes for the definition of services
which will have the necessary latitude to manage its day-to-day activities.”
Pinsent Masons covers the sectors of infrastructure
which it identifies as global (83% of its revenues)
“We will also intervene in other areas depending on the dimensions of the country’s activity,” added Bulach
The creation of the office is a continuation of the history of Wildgen
which would have celebrated its 100th birthday in 2023
this Pinsent Masons office has been fully operational with a knowledge of the market and an existing culture,” said Bulach
Some of the partners and associates wanted to start a new professional project in the context of this change
The arrival of this new name is bound to be of interest to a market that has seen several episodes of local firms joining forces with big foreign names since the early 2000s
foreign firms have also created their own structure in Luxembourg
a sign of the constant and growing interest in the country
“There will also always be room for independent firms catering to specific needs and clients and
I am convinced that we will see a consolidation of medium-sized independent firms which
will be able to maintain the role they currently play,” said Bulach
including 16 lawyers--this announcement is synonymous with opportunities in terms of the cases handled and a stronger international orientation
“Many of our employees are quite young and they are enthusiastic about the innovative elements and technological tools presented by Pinsent Masons,” said Bulach
“Our ambitions will gradually translate into organic growth of our teams
with a focus on experienced profiles familiar with our clients’ home countries.”
Of the 10 partners at the beginning of the year
six ex-Wildgen partners make up the Pinsent Masons Luxembourg structure by joining the global firm: Bulach
Previously based in the London office of Wildgen
Mark Shaw is the seventh Luxembourg partner of Pinsent Masons
He will retain his position in the UK capital
but will join the offices of his new colleagues
“This is a new step that I am looking forward to with great interest and excitement,” said Bulach
was made a partner in 2005 and became a shareholder in 2009
our way of doing things and working with our teams
it will be to “enable all associates and partners to practice their profession and evolve in the best possible conditions while ensuring that our work is part of the global perspective of Pinsent Masons.”
The next step will be to publicise the new identity in the autumn
starting from a headquarters that will be retained
