Meggen LU was voted the best municipality in Switzerland - thanks to low taxes

The municipalities were compared with a total of 51 factors

The data is based primarily on public statistics and real estate price models from Iazi AG
The major cities performed worse overall than in the previous year
Zurich is in 54th place (previous year 45th)
Basel is in 486th place (previous year 93rd) and Bern is in 491st place (previous year 199th)

Albert F. Frey-Wyssling (born November 8, 1900, Küssnacht, Switzerland—died August 30, 1988) was a Swiss botanist and pioneer of submicroscopic morphology, who helped to initiate the study later known as molecular biology
and was also rector of the institution (1957–61)
He wrote several books based on his submicroscopic studies
benefiting from its natural surroundings and boasting incredible views in every direction
the intervention is positioned on a sloping site at the foot of the rigi mountain peak
built to combine the former vernacular architecture with elements of contemporary design
the project strikes a balance between modern living and a home that is contextually relevant to the region

the two family house has been built with the same footprint and orientation as the previous 1852 building. when developing the scheme, the architects decided to maintain a relationship with the characteristics and volume of the original construction
the volume is designed to be compact in contrast to the vast natural landscape
as this is a typical aspect of the farmhouses in the local area
the form of the new intervention is characterized by the asymmetrically folded shape of the roof
which gives it a unique personality and also mirrors the former structure
the structure is expressed very clearly as a wooden volume sitting on top of a concrete base
the concrete element serves as the garage and cellar
subtle projections and recesses of the gable side façade refer to the traditional local canopy constructions
these horizontal elements are reinterpreted and combine tradition and modernity
which is enhanced by the series of windows and vertically sliding shutters
the interiors are defined by the combination of exposed concrete and timber
which work together to create a warm yet contemporary living space
the social areas are designed to be open plan and contain functions such as kitchen
an impressive wooden staircase provides a sculptural element in the heart of the building
which is also articulated in the raw timber material
walls are punctuated by picture-frame windows that boast views of the surrounding mountain panorama
while also working to bring an abundance of natural light into the house
the new intervention aims to relate to the former structure and the vernacular architecture of the region
while bringing an element of contemporary design
by mirroring historical shapes and materials
the final expression reflects local building tradition
perfectly befitting the surrounding natural landscape
the unique character of the house provides an ideal family home in the swiss countryside

The Tour de Suisse 2025, along with the Critérium du Dauphiné, is one of the key preparation events for riders taking part in the Tour de France
in addition to being a prestigious WorldTour race in its own right.
Its lush but challenging mountainous terrain and the inclusion of time-trials gives GC contenders the chance to ride into form in the last few weeks leading up to Le Grand Boucle
The men's Tour de Suisse this year features eight stages from 15-22 June
while the four-stage women's race is to take place from 12-15 June

The Tour de Suisse – also referred to in English as the Tour of Switzerland – has a long and storied history
It was first run in 1933 as a five-stage race that started and finished in Zürich
it established its June pre-Tour slot in the 1950s
Early editions were most often won by home riders
including big-name Tour de France winners such as Hugo Koblet and Ferdi Kübler
But by the 1970s the Swiss were rarely having it their own way
The last home victor was Classics star Fabian Cancellara in 2009
2025 will be the 88th edition of the men's race and the 9th edition of the women's race
The race has run every year since 1933 with the exception of a three year hiatus during World War Two and a cancellation in 2020 because of the COVID-19 pandemic
The race traditionally features a mixture of time trials
relatively flat stages for the sprinters and high mountains
the weather has also played a part in the event
with the high mountain passes often affected by poor conditions and snowfall
Details of the Tour de Suisse 2025 route will be added as they are released

Like at the Tour de France and several other prestigious stage races
the general classification leader at the Tour de Suisse - the rider with the lowest overall time - wears a yellow jersey
The rider with the lowest overall time at the end of the eight-stage race is crowned the winner of the Tour de Suisse
the other jerseys are different: the points leader wears a black jersey
the King and Queen of the Mountains a red jersey (no polka dots here)
while the best young rider (aged 25 or under) wears the classic white jersey

A new book has revealed that King Albert has a half sister and a half brother
Leo Van Audenhaege's new tome 'From Küssnacht to Argenteuil" tells the story of a relationship that developed between King Leopold III
as well as detailing an extramarital affair during his marriage to Princes Lilian
The book has been given the subtitle "Dramas in the Belgian Royal House (1935-2002)"
died in a car crash in Küssnacht in Switzerland in August 1935
The new book reveals that King Leopold fathered a child with Liselotte Landbeck
The girl is King Albert's half sister
The Royal Palace in Brussels has refused to comment on the matter
The girl was named Ingeborg Verdun after Liselotte's first husband
King Leopold later ended this relationship and wedded Lilian Baels
the daughter of an Ostend shipping magnate and governor of West Flanders Province
The marriage to a commoner during the Second World War was controversial: the church wedding took place before the civil ceremony in violation of Belgian law
Ingeborg Verdun is now believed to be in her seventies and living in America
Her mother spent some time in the Swedish capital Stockholm
but the author says that she has now moved to an old folk's home in southern climes
though he is unwilling to say exactly where
Leo Van Audenhaege also relates the story of an extramarital affair that Belgium's dashing monarch had during his second marriage to Princess Lilian
A son was born from this relationship: "It happened during the difficult years -1954 - '55 - after the Belgian royals returned home from Switzerland after the War." Van Audenhaege confirms the existence of King Albert's half brother and acknowledges that this child was the result of an extramarital liaison
