the band featuring former ACCEPT members Udo Dirkschneider (vocals) and Peter Baltes (bass),along with drummer Sven Dirkschneider (Udo's son) and the talented guitar duo of Andrey Smirnov and Fabian "Dee" Dammers
is celebrating the 40th anniversary of "Balls To The Wall" — originally released in late 1983 and the most commercially successful and best-known album by ACCEPT — by performing the LP in its entirety on a European tour which kicked off on February 26 in Vienna

In a recent interview with Andrew McKaysmith of the Scars And Guitars podcast
Udo and Sven spoke about the recently released reimagining of "Balls To The Wall" to celebrate the LP's 40th anniversary
The band's founding member and former frontman reinterpreted this classic with a fresh and star-studded twist
this project was born out of countless conversations with prominent artists across the global rock and metal scene
who frequently asked: "Are you planning anything special for the 40th anniversary of 'Balls To The Wall'?" These discussions sparked the idea to re-record the album's legendary tracks alongside a stellar lineup of guest musicians
transforming the project into a heartfelt tribute
Asked if there were any "complications" with ACCEPT guitarist Wolf Hoffmann and ACCEPT's management about releasing a reimagined version of "Balls To The Wall"
Udo said: "No… Everybody can record [their own version of] the 'Balls' album
if they don't change arrangements or stuff like that
former ACCEPT bassist and current member of U.D.O
and DIRKSCHNEIDER] and with me singing and playing on this album
He was very much involved in recording the drums and showed Sven how he had to play ACCEPT songs right
[Stefan] was [also] very much involved in guitar stuff — he was sitting together with the guitar players and told them
how they had to play the rhythm guitars exactly
And I know he's a really brilliant rhythm guitar player
and DIRKSCHNEIDER: "Stefan will always tell you if he doesn't like something
that makes it more productive because you don't have to see what the guy's actually meaning
I will have to do it better.' So it was very productive working with Stefan
I was nervous when I recorded the drums because I had the original [ACCEPT drummer] sitting there on the mixing desk recording my tracks
it was really cool to have him and to hear his feedback on what he thinks and put my touches on it
The reimagined "Balls To The Wall" was made available on February 28
In a separate interview with Jorge Botas of Portugal's Metal Global
Udo and Peter spoke about the new version of "Balls To The Wall"
Asked what led to the decision to release a reimagined version of the LP
Udo said: "Normally it was not planned to do an album; it was only planned to do a tour about the 40-years anniversary of 'Balls'
a lot of singers [from other bands] came up [and asked]
you do something special for the 40th anniversary.' And then we said
I would love to sing a song of the 'Balls' album.' And then the idea came up very slowly
Udo continued: "To re-record the 'Balls' album
'Don't touch the holy cow.' But with the guest-singer thing now
And so I think I'm happy with the result of everything."
Asked if he enjoyed the process of hearing different guests singing with Udo
I also was nervous touching the album again
because these songs evolved over so many years to what I'm playing today
The other as much as the holy cow and iconic it is
it also sits on the shelf somewhere and everybody's behind you and it hasn't been moved in 20 years
So it is an honor for us to be able to reintroduce the album to a younger generation
And I think it gives the album a great honor that it deserves
Udo added: "I was quite nervous when I started recording the album
I was not quite sure that I'd hit all the notes [laughs]
And I think especially the whole atmosphere between the guest singers and my vocals
I think it gives the whole thing a new dimension
Asked if they had certain vocalists in mind for certain songs, Sven said: "We had a very long list. And stuff like [SAXON's] Biff Byford on 'London Leatherboys' was kind of obvious, that we wanted to have him for this. And, yeah, we're going on tour with SAXON as well in November this year. So, it all makes perfect sense. And, yeah, [there are some] very, very good collaborations."
Udo continued: "All the singers, they did a great job on it. For example, Joakim [Brodén] from SABATON, 'Balls To The Wall', he did a great job. And also [TWISTED SISTER's] Dee Snider on 'Losers And Winners'. And also Biff on 'London Leatherboys'.
Ten years ago — in 2015 — Udo announced that he would embark on a special tour during which he would perform ACCEPT songs one last time under the DIRKSCHNEIDER banner before closing that chapter for good. Since then, the former ACCEPT frontman has continued to play ACCEPT material at select shows, including at the September 18, 2020 U.D.O. concert in Plovdiv, Bulgaria, which was released on DVD and Blu-ray.
Dirkschneider said that his vow to never play ACCEPT material again came with one caveat. "If the band ACCEPT dissolves one day in the near future and I am still around with U.D.O., then there is a chance that I put ACCEPT songs back in the setlist," he said. "But currently there is ACCEPT, so go see them [if you want to see those songs performed live]. They are playing these songs."
Udo previously said the original plan was for DIRKSCHNEIDER to only "a few shows," and "then [the tour] got bigger and bigger [due to demand]." But, he added, "I don't want to complain about that."

Swiss Post has unveiled a CHF75m (US$81.7m) regional parcel center in Pratteln (BL) in Switzerland
Swiss Post converted the former tire factory into a center that can sort up to 10,000 parcels an hour and up to 160,000 parcels a day. With the opening of the site, Swiss Post is creating around 50 additional jobs in the municipality
This will bring the company up to 350 Swiss Post staff in Pratteln
The returns processing unit is also expected to move to Pratteln in June 2023
Swiss Post plans to operate a maximum of 15 parcel sorting centers
Additionally, Swiss Post will sort the majority of parcels from and for Basel and Liestal in its Pratteln center in the future. As a result, far fewer parcels will need to be routed via the Härkingen parcel center, which will shorten transportation routes and times and ease the burden on traffic infrastructure in Switzerland

Former MACHINE HEAD and current VIO-LENCE guitarist Phil Demmel played his fourth show with TESTAMENT last night (Wednesday, May 31) at Z7 in Pratteln, Switzerland. Demmel is filling in for TESTAMENT's regular lead guitarist Alex Skolnick, who is sitting out some of the band's spring/summer 2023 European tour dates in order to tend to a family emergency.
Because Demmel had a gig scheduled with VIO-LENCE at the Milwaukee Metal Fest on Friday (May 26),TESTAMENT performed as a four-piece at the kick-off concert of the band's European tour that same night in Wiesbaden, Germany.
"At the same time, it's become very clear how many urgent matters need hands-on attention by yours truly, in light of all this. All of which to is to say that, unfortunately, there is no way to avoid TESTAMENT's upcoming European tour being affected.
"Please know that the entire TESTAMENT band/crew/mgmt has been above and beyond in terms of understanding, empathizing and allowing me all the time I need. There's been no pressure and this is a plan I'm entirely on board with. There is plenty of gratitude on my end.
"One of my biggest honors was being a fill-in (one of four) for the late, great Allan Holdsworth, with his own band shortly after his passing, at a show he‘d been slated to play. All of us agreed - don't try to be him (no one can!),just be YOU. And that's how this is going to be. Think of these shows as unique, one-of-kind and worth going out of the way for. I'm looking forward to watching clips online
"Enjoy this temporary version of the band (which will be great) and don't worry - you'll have me to put up with again soon enough.
"Thanks for understanding, and see you all shortly."
Demmel was then asked whether his nerves for the LAMB OF GOD and OVERKILL gigs were on the same level as playing with SLAYER. "I was pretty confident with the OVERKILL songs," he said. "We had three good rehearsals. I didn't rehearse with SLAYER at all. I played two songs at a soundcheck. [Laughs] 'Okay, we're good!' It's like, 'Fuck!' OVERKILL, we had a couple of days of rehearsal. I had two and a half, three weeks to prepare for that. I felt pretty strong with that.

Due to "unforeseen personal obligations," vocalist Mark "Barney" Greenway of British/American grindcore pioneers NAPALM DEATH will be forced to miss the band's shows in Bologna
this is unavoidable," says the band's bassist
"Rather than not play those shows in Bologna and Prateln
we asked our friend Rees from the band CORRUPT MORAL ALTAR if he would come over and fill in for Barney for the next two shows
Shane continued: "We have been rehearsing a set in soundcheck today for tomorrow's show and it is sounding brutal and intense and we hope you guys in will show him and us your support
Thanks in advance for understanding and see everyone tomorrow."
NAPALM DEATH is currently taking part in the "Deathcrusher 2015" European tour with CARCASS
was released on January 27 (one day earlier internationally) via Century Media Records
The CD's striking artwork was created by Danish designer Frode Sylthe (Friktion.com),who has previously worked on the band's "Utilitarian" album as well as with such other acts as AT THE GATES
Former NIGHTWISH members Tarja Turunen (vocals) and Marko "Marco" Hietala performed a cover of "The Phantom Of The Opera" during their special open-air concert this past Saturday (July 8) at Z7 Summer Nights in Pratteln
Tarja and Marko both played individual sets at the event
with their rendition of the main theme from Andrew Lloyd Webber's musical coming during Turunen's portion of the show
Turunen was fired from NIGHTWISH at the end of the band's 2005 tour by being presented with an open letter which was published on the NIGHTWISH web site at the same time
the other members of NIGHTWISH wrote: "To you
and things that have nothing to do with emotions have become much more important."
NIGHTWISH keyboardist and main songwriter Tuomas Holopainen later called the decision to part ways with Turunen "the most difficult thing I ever had to do." For her part
Tarja said the way she was kicked out of the group proved that her former bandmates were not her friends
Turunen dismissed Internet chatter about her possible return to NIGHTWISH after her December 2017 onstage reunion with the band's then-bassist/vocalist Hietala during a "Raskasta Joulua" concert in Hämeenlinna
"I know a lot of fans would love to see something happen
but it's a very long distance away," she told Kerrang
I don't see anything happening with me and them
Marco came a little later into the band; he wasn't there since the beginning
haven't seen each other in a long time… but we have been in touch
The past is what it is; we can't change that
"Once Upon a Nightwish: The Official Biography 1996-2006"
was published in Finnish in 2006 and in English three years later
and his business partners later sued the parties behind the book for defamation
Named in the lawsuit were the publishing house Like Kustannus Oy and the author of the book
Cabuli and his Brazilian business partners argued that the book includes false accusations and insinuations that have caused them suffering and financial problems
The book blamed Cabuli for the events leading up to Turunen's dramatic expulsion from the band in late 2005
the Helsinki District Court dismissed Cabuli's lawsuit
ruling that the book — which criticized Cabuli on only a few of its 380 pages — did not detrimentally affect his work or reputation in South America
the court determined that Ollila did not maliciously portray Cabuli in a negative light
Tarja was asked in an interview with Top Link Music manager and concert promoter Paulo Baron and music critic Regis Tadeu if she would consider doing a tour with NIGHTWISH if all of her former bandmates apologized to her about how their split happened and invited her to share the stage with them again
very hypothetical that all what you said will happen
that things happen without us noticing," she continued
I can't really close any doors in that sense; I'm not that kind of person any longer
I learned so many things in this life already
It would be very hypothetically possible," she added
Hietala announced his departure from NIGHTWISH in January 2021
explaining in a statement that he hadn't "been able to feel validated by this life for a quite a few years now." He has since been replaced by session bassist Jukka Koskinen (WINTERSUN),who made his live debut with NIGHTWISH in May 2021 at the band's two interactive experiences
In an August 2022 interview with Finland's Chaoszine
Hietala revealed that he went through a dark period in his life
anxiety and an eventual attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) diagnosis
Speaking about how he eventually came to the realization that exiting NIGHTWISH was the right thing to do
where I had a lot of time for soul searching
it obviously gave me the last incentive that I need something else
that if I just continue with this I'm just gonna get sicker and sicker
"I've been chronic depressive since 2010 [or] 2011
so I've been on a permanent medication ever since," he revealed
"Sometimes you get used to the meds [and] you will need more
We did raise [the dosage] during the years also
And now that I started to do… I had psychotherapy for over four years now
and then I also talked to psychiatrists and some doctors and did that also in Spain
Then my psychiatrist here in Finland said that I should do these ADHD neuropsychological tests
Hietala reiterated that he "had been thinking about" leaving NIGHTWISH "for a while" before making the final decision
And I tend to… With the attention disorder
it tells me that when there are lots of trouble
then the disorder makes it into a real chaos," he explained
"There's a shitload of stuff coming and going and no peace anywhere
I was already waking up every night at three o'clock to bad dreams and anxiety
So I'd say that the whole process probably started already with my former divorce [in 2016]
That was a very sad time when you think about your kids and your broken homes and all that
I don't really wanna go any deeper to what kind of things I'd gone through
Acknowledging that making NIGHTWISH's latest studio album
Marko denied that his mental state at the time resulted in a diminished role for him on the final LP
"I think the original idea was to have that… we'll do a couple of [solo vocal appearances]
and then the harmonies; that was the idea originally for that," he said
But at that time I already had serious trouble with concentrating and serious trouble with a constant black cloud over my head."
Hietala told Finland's Iltalehti that he had not kept in touch with NIGHTWISH since his departure or followed the activities of his former band
Holopainen said that Hietala's decision to leave NIGHTWISH "came as a bit of a surprise." He told Finland's Kaaos TV: "Marko informed us in December [of 2020 that he was leaving the band]
And even though he has been very open about his state and problems during the past years
it still came as a bit of a surprise for us
I was actually quite confident that there's no coming back
after some time had passed — a few days — we started to think that it's been such a ride of 25 years
Tuomas elaborated on NIGHTWISH's reasons for carrying on
saying: "I think we still have something to give
We felt that there's still so much music that needs to come out from this band that
let's give it one more shot.' And then finding the new bass player was really easy."
He added: "It's not like we do this just because we need to do it and there's nothing else to do
I feel that there's still so many stories and melodies that I want to share with the world with one lineup or another
so that's why you want to continue and keep on going
that a lineup change is the ultimate energy vampire
and that's how it really felt and still feels."
Jansen spoke about Hietala's exit from the band in an episode of her "Storytime" YouTube video series
She said: "That was a very sudden surprise that
But we understand — I understand — it was a necessary thing for him to do
we had to think of how to continue without him
Hietala was crowned the winner of the fall 2020 season of "Masked Singer Suomi" — the Finnish edition of the popular masked singing contest
Holopainen said that NIGHTWISH would split up if the band's current singer Floor Jansen ever chose to leave
who formed NIGHTWISH in 1996 with guitarist Emppu Vuorinen and Turunen
made the comment while discussing the departure of Hietala
Pressed by U.K.'s Metal Hammer magazine about his 2019 statement that NIGHTWISH would disband if another member opted to depart
Tuomas said: "That's how I felt back in 2019
and that's also how I felt when Marko left
I take my words back when it comes to that

The Basel-Landschaft public prosecutor's office has confirmed that police are investigating whether a serious lorry fire at the Pratteln rest area last Friday was caused by criminal negligence
they could face a prison sentence as lengthy as 3 years
The fire, which broke out at the Pratteln “Autogrill” rest stop shortly after 9pm on Friday evening, completely burned out two trucks according to an official statement from the Basel-Landschaft police department
The two trucks had already become engulfed in flames by the time the local fire brigade arrived
the firefighters were able to quickly contain the blaze and prevent it from spreading to other vehicles
Local media reports have also credited a 42-year-old North Macedonian driver who used his lorry’s fire extinguisher to stop more vehicles being burned out
The driver is quoted as saying the speed at which fire spread was like lightning
Another driver who witnessed the blaze said the trucker whose vehicle first caught fire looked severely shaken as he was taken away in an Ambulance
The blaze spawned flames several-metres high and understandably created a lot of smoke
One person had to be treated by paramedics due to smoke inhalation
The fire was eventually put out around an hour after it began
Police said late on Friday that the cause of the fire was not clear
Officers also urged witnesses to come forward

rumours from social media users nonetheless speculated that the blaze had been caused by an accident a group of intoxicated lorry drivers had had with a gas canister
The Twitter post above is one example of this
Although we are not in a position to confirm there is any truth in this gossip
we do know that the police are at least looking into the possibility of negligence
a spokesperson for Basel-Landschaft public prosecutor’s office confirmed to the Swiss press that an investigation into possible criminal negligence is underway

According to Swiss news service 20 Minuten
no information has been made public regarding which persons are being investigated
It is thought that officers will be focusing on the driver of the truck that caught fire first
The two vehicles that were ablaze came from Poland and Lithuania respectively
If someone is found guilty of criminal negligence
the maximum punishment is 3 years’ imprisonment

Migros Online has been criticized by "Kassensturz" for questionable working conditions and rigorous dismissal practices
Some things are not quite right in Migros' online grocery business. Last autumn , a labor inspector ins pected the distribution center in Pratteln BL and found several shortcomings
employees have to lift and stack boxes weighing up to 30 kilograms over their shoulders
Kassensturz" took up the issue in an article in which Lida Nachreiner
The 43-year-old put food ordered online into boxes in the warehouse and then lifted them onto a conveyor belt
The boxes often weighed more than the permitted weight
she got the receipt: bursitis and joint pain
"If this goes on for a long time, it can cause permanent damage," confirms Klaus Stadtmüller
co-director of the Society for Occupational Medicine in the article
Lida Nachreiner was on sick leave for four months
"Take sick leave and then resign," says Roman Künzler from the Unia trade union indignantly
The procedure is nothing new to him: they know of a dozen employees who have been on sick leave for lifting weights that are too heavy and have been dismissed after the statutory qualifying period has expired
Lida Nachreiner spoke to other employees and informed the Baselland labor inspectorate and Suva
Migros Online's response was immediate: she was told to refrain from making statements that could damage her reputation
otherwise they reserved the right to take legal action
meint die Migros, wir Kundinnen und Kunden goutieren solches Verhalten gegenüber den Mitarbeitenden kommentarlos? https://t.co/xc10CZvMVF
In addition to threats and a drastic dismissal policy
Migros Online employees are also put under pressure in other ways: they work for the minimum wage of CHF 4270 gross
Because anyone who falls ill - and this is not intentional - is punished
reacts with surprise in the article: "Mixing bonuses and penalties is legally impossible
Writes to "Kassensturz": "We take the health and well-being of our employees very seriously and are aware of our responsibility"

Night owls who are out and about in Pratteln and Muttenz in the early hours of Saturday 1 November were the first to learn of the disaster: shortly after midnight
the fire service had received the report that a fire had broken out in Warehouse 956 in the Schweizerhalle industrial complex
Fire services from numerous Basel communes were called out and 160 firefighters were soon at work
They were faced with a veritable inferno: containers with unknown contents were exploding
fireballs measuring over 50 metres were shooting into the night sky
and some of the firefighters may well have wondered whether their safety equipment would be able to protect them from harm
People sleeping with open windows in close proximity to the fire were woken by a pungent odour which they described as a mixture of rotten eggs
From 4 am people in Kleinbasel and the lower areas of the canton of Basel-Landschaft were woken by the shrieking of the sirens
The police drove through the neighbourhoods and ordered residents by loudspeaker to close their windows and remain in their houses
The fire was not contained until shortly before 7 am
at which point it was possible to issue the all clear
In contrast to the instructions that had been given earlier
children in the Basel region were told to go to school
The contradictory information angered many parents and criticism was also expressed by the residents of neighbouring regions outside Switzerland
No attempt had been made to alert people in south Baden (Germany) and Alsace (France) about the fire; numerous cross-border workers making their way to work were told to go back home - by customs officers wearing gas masks
the company that owned the burnt-down warehouse
provided assurances that the substances stored in it were mostly harmless
which could not quite believe the reassurances
sent a police patrol on an ornithological mission: they were instructed to observe the birds in the Hardwald forest between Muttenz and Basel which are particularly sensitive to environmental impacts
the police officers did not observe anything of particular note; they found no dead animals and the twittering of birds could be heard in the forest as usual
The extent of the devastation wreaked on the environment by the fire emerged a few hours later
Over the course of the Saturday it emerged that 20,000 cubic metres of extinguishing water contaminated with highly toxic chemicals
the dye responsible for this was not toxic
The Basel-Stadt cantonal fishery warden reported on the Monday that over one tonne of dead grayling had been collected
Almost the entire eel population between Schweizerhalle and the Loreley rock near Koblenz
the impacts of the chemical contaminants in Holland could mainly be observed in insect larvae and tubifex or sludge worms; the extraction of drinking water from the river was suspended up to Holland
Just months after the Chernobyl disaster in April 1986
the second biggest environmental disaster of that year further undermined the population's faith in technology
The poisoned fish were a source of major concern to the public
the International Commission for the Protection of the Rhine (ICPR) launched the Rhine 2000 remediation programme
which aimed to improve the water quality to a level at which life could be re-established in the river
the Salmon 2000 programme was intended to help the king of fish to feel at home in the river again; fish ladders were constructed with a view to improving the passability of the Rhine and ensuring that the great species could reach its spawning grounds
Salmon have been ascending again from the North Sea via the Rhine delta since 1990 and they have been reproducing naturally in some of the tributaries since 1994
The Salmon 2000 programme was followed up by the Rhine 2020 programme
The ICPR also runs a number of working groups
This group focuses on the topic of fish migration and healthy fish populations
and studies fish as indicators of the quality of the aquatic habitat
It carries out regular monitoring of fish fauna and is responsible for the implementation of the Masterplan Migratory Fish Rhine
This master plan defines detailed measures intended to increase the passability of the Rhine and improve the characteristics of the habitats in particular sections of the river
The Federal Office for the Environment (FOEN) collaborates actively with the Fish Fauna Expert Group
Although the damage to the Rhine was the main focus of public interest
the fire in Schweizerhalle also caused extensive damage on dry land
The contaminated soil in Schweizerhalle was excavated to a depth of 11 metres and washed
A residual load of a few hundred kilograms of the pesticide oxadixyl remained
Other pesticides that also entered the substrate during the extinguishing of the fire in 1986 can no longer be detected in the groundwater today
the site of the former warehouse was sealed with a concrete slab and the groundwater in this location is pumped out
only low concentrations of oxadixyl - in the range of a few millionths of a gram per litre (µg/L) - can be detected in the groundwater on the accident site
The infiltration of Rhine water into the nearby drinking-water abstraction area of Hardwald
also ensures that the groundwater from the accident site cannot flow into the drinking water catchments of the upper Hard area
The direction of flow and quality of the groundwater is constantly monitored
The Office for Environmental Protection and Energy of the canton of Basel-Landschaft will carry out a new legal assessment of the Schweizerhalle accident site by early 2017
The need for further monitoring and remediation will be clarified on the basis of this assessment.
