Renen Sahr was promoted to President of RVR Wealth at the RVR Bank Board of Directors annual meeting on Wednesday
Sahr started at RVR Bank (formerly known as First State Bank & Trust) in 2016 and quickly joined the investment department
He has since earned his FINRA series 7 and 66 registrations as well as the Nebraska Life and Health Insurance Licenses and the Certified Financial Planner (CFP®) designation
RVR Wealth has demonstrated consistent growth
characterized by an increase in both assets under management and the number of clients served
He has successfully managed our expansion of investment services to Blair and Arlington,” RVR Bank President Nick Vrba said
“Renen’s leadership at RVR Wealth is marked by his intelligence
He has consistently demonstrated a commitment to excellence
and this promotion recognizes his significant contributions and positions him to lead our Wealth division to even greater success.”
Sahr is an honors graduate of the Fremont Area Chamber of Commerce Leadership Fremont program and has served the Fremont Chamber of Commerce as a Diplomat and Chair of the Diplomat group
He is a member of Chamber Net 2.0 and the Midland University Booster Club Board of Directors
He was recognized as one of the Fremont Area Chamber of Commerce 20 Under 40

The one-piece Clarino palm and abrasion-resistant Italian knit fabric on the top of the hand make these proper comfy
breathe well and can handle a crash or two
The cuff is a Neoprene slip-on design with a scooped-out shape to the inside of the wrist
Excellent bar feel and comfort levels that don’t lose out to durability with great looks at a competitive price
US Brand Renen is the brain-child of Pete Fox
Starting as a Motocross brand he enlisted mountain bike legend and multiple world champion Brian Lopes in R&D to develop Renen for the Mountain Bike market
Brian works closely with sponsored UK rider Marc ‘Slugger’ Beaumont for feedback on the UK market
With a total focus on performance-driven products
all of its kit is handmade in the USA at Renen’s factory in Indianapolis
The GC-2 gloves are a minimalist glove for those who are all about bar feel
They feature an ergonomically preshaped design with a two-piece palm constructed from single-layer Clarino fabric
The top of the glove is made from Italian WarpKnit fabric
a super stretchy material with high abrasion resistance
To further enhance fit the palm features a set-in thumb design which also improves mobility and comfort levels
With a few strategically placed holes to aid breathability and reinforced fingertips for extra durability
My favorite glove up until now has been the 100% Sling glove
that said I think they have just been knocked off of the top spot by the Renen GC-2 gloves
Whilst not a super-lightweight glove in the same stable as the 100% Sling or Troy Lee Designs Ace gloves the GC-2 offer the same levels of bar feel but in a much more robust design
Both the palm and upper offer more durability than the 100% and Troy Lee gloves mentioned
without sacrificing any of the bar feel of minimalist gloves that I love
with no bunching or loose material to the main body or fingers
The cuffs scoop pleasingly at the wrist’s sides to offer a high level of mobility and the medium length adds a bit of protection from the elements
The pre-curved form and stretchy upper material make these a pleasure to wear
I’ve seen them through a summer of abuse with a few crashes thrown in for good measure and they’ve survived unscathed
comfort and build I can see these gloves being my go-to for the rest of the year
or until it’s cold enough to reach for something thicker
If you want durability but don’t want to sacrifice the feeling of lightweight gloves
The simple no-fuss aesthetic should appeal to the masses and with cracking levels of comfort they are certainly tougher than a lot of the current crop at a great price point that will see you through the seasons

32-year-old Chad Le Clos was in the water on day one of the 2024 South African Short Course Championships
achieving his goal of qualifying for this year’s Short Course World Championships
Veteran Le Clos opened his campaign with a victory in the men’s 100m freestyle
about a second outside his lifetime best of 45.78 from 2017
Le Clos scored the sole sub-47 second outing of the field, although Ruard van Renen was right behind in 47.02
Both men dipped under the threshold needed to stake their claim on the event for December in Budapest
I was really nervous,” Le Clos told Swimming South Africa post-race
I knew Ruard was going to be good and he was right there with me… I said a little prayer like I always do on the last 10m and I was very fortunate to get my hand on the wall first
“But he was the MVP tonight with his performance
Van Renen was indeed excited with his result
with the University of Georgia swimmer commenting
“I definitely thought I had in him in those last five metres but I got out-touched
but I’m still happy with the swim and happy the hard work has paid off
Van Renen’s performance represents the 21-year-old’s first-ever ‘A’ cut
He’s now South Africa’s 7th-fastest SCM 100 freestyler in history
Le Clos also raced in the men’s 50m fly tonight
turning in a solid outing of 22.40 for the gold
“I was faster than I thought in both races if I’m honest… so let’s see how we go in the 100 and 200m fly
– obviously my main two events,” he said when the dust settled
Fellow Olympian Rebecca Meder topped the women’s 100m breaststroke event in a time of 1:05.82
The 22-year-old handily defeated Paris teammate Lara van Niekerk who touched in 1:07.55 as the runner-up
van Niekerk is racing in her first competition after sitting out 2 months due to a back injury
That was within striking distance of her lifetime best and South African national record of 58.46 clocked at the 2022 Short Course World Championships
Meder told Swimming South Africa after the session,“I’m very happy
I think everyone was quite shocked with my breaststroke
“I was nervous coming in… I said to my family today ‘At the end of the day
I just have to take that pressure off myself.’ It’s actually so nice to be quite calm before a race and really enjoy it.”

There will be changes in all Swiss regions (read more about this below)
but the French-speaking part of the country will experience most of them
"The new timetable was created with the input of all the cantons of western Switzerland,” the company said
What changes can commuters in Suisse Romande expect
To begin with, the new timetable changes the departure times of almost all trains in French-speaking Switzerland
Improvements will include 15 percent more trains in this part of the country
new direct connections with the west of Lausanne
as well as increased services on the so-called Swiss Riviera — which is between Lausanne and Montreux in Vaud —as well as in the Lower Valais
The Lausanne suburb of Renens will become a major rail traffic hub served by long-distance trains: InterCity IC1 and IC5
and InterRegio IR90 trains will stop there
Yverdon-les-Bains and the Lausanne/Renens railway junction has already been increased
IC5 trains will run every half hour on this route
The half-hourly schedule for mainline traffic in the St
Gallen Rhine Valley makes it possible to double the offer for commuters and people traveling for leisure
Additional IC5 connections between Eastern Switzerland and Zurich will guarantee a denser pace and more seats
an IC connection will stop at Bern Wankdorf in the morning and another in the evening during peak hours
commuters will arrive more quickly at their destinations and central stations will relieved of congestion
as is already the case in Zurich with Altstetten and Oerlikon
Night connections allow also passengers to return home late and travellers to arrive early at Zurich Airport on the Bern–Olten–Zurich main station–Zurich airport section
And with the reopening of the Gotthard tunnel in September 2024
as well as the EC Basel–Lucerne–Milan and the tri-national Frankfurt–Zurich–Milan train are operating again

Loads of sizes; impressive comfort levels; great cut; single pocket is well located
Renen has taken a rather simplistic approach to its Downhill MTB pants design
swerving an abundance of extras and features in a bid to create trousers that perform perfectly on the bike
Renen offers a whopping 11 sizes (28-38in waists
This means there’s no real need to add bulky, costly waist-adjuster tabs (or something similar) as you’ll likely find on rival mountain bike trousers
which will enable you to cinch the waist up a little tighter if you need to
along with the rear of the waistband being elasticated to provide a figure-hugging fit
The fabric offers a decent amount of stretch and is lined with Renen’s DRYCYCLE liner (made from 95 per cent polyester and five per cent elastane)
It covers the bulk of the inside of the pants and is designed to wick sweat away from your skin
This lining is interrupted with stretchy mesh panels that run down the inside and outside of the thighs
There’s a single pocket located on the left hip
This uses a discreet zip and is big enough to fit a phone
While a lot of brands will add more pockets elsewhere
this pared-back approach offers only what’s necessary and nothing more
although I appreciated being able to ratchet the waist buckle up a bit to ensure things were suitably snug
The shape and leg length felt perfect for me
My legs are short (I’m 172cm) and the 29in inseam worked well
with the cuffs of the pants sitting nicely around my ankles
but not so long that excess material was left to bunch up
The fit is certainly on the tailored side of things, but there’s enough room and stretch to ensure the trousers never feel restrictive or uncomfortable. You’ll easily get a set of bulky knee pads underneath
they articulate and move in perfect sync with you
staying in place and never needing any readjustment
I noticed the occasional bit of noise as the inner seams brushed back and forth over my knee pads
although some folk may prefer to have more than one
I would like a chunkier zip pull, though, because the one Renen specs is spindly and fiddly to find with mountain bike gloves on
I’d say these pants are best suited to colder days or shoulder seasons
where you’re likely to get caught out as temperatures fluctuate
They’re not the lightest or airiest trousers
so you can get pretty sweaty if you’re pedalling long laps on mild days
they do an admirable job of wicking the sweat away
I’m happy to take that heat build-up and deal with it
simply because of the impressive fit and comfort on offer
While the Renen trousers may be lacking in the features department
The Downhill MTB pants from Renen offer a pared-back take on riding trousers that focuses on comfort
Renen has done a great job of delivering on those aims
They’re not the cheapest or lightest and the zip pull could be improved
but those are small niggles and easy to live with considering the comfort

Renen’s mountain bike kit is comfortable
the UCI banned Lycra on the World Cup Downhill circuit
The skinsuits sharply clashed with the moto-inspired kits of the fan-favorite riders
gravity-focused clothes have gotten so skinny that no one batted an eye when the UCI removed the ban on Lycra
But like many other trends in the sport right now
we’ve hit our bottom out bumpers and are starting to rebound
Enter Renen, Fox Racing co-founder Pete Fox’s USA-based apparel company that’s now shamelessly bringing MX style back to mountain biking
They’re a little new to the scene but you may have already seen their clothing on the backs of fast folks like Asa Vermette or Brian Lopes
I’ve been wearing their mtb jersey and pants for a few weeks now on pedal missions
and shuttle days in all-time Fall-time conditions ranging from cool and wet to chilly and breezy to cold and soaking
Renen’s mountain bike pants are offered in even and odd waist sizes
They run a bit small though so I’d suggest sizing up from your standard jean size an inch or two
There’s enough adjustability to cater the fit to your liking
my jeans’ waist sizes vary from 30” to 32” but the Renen 33’s fit comfortably
My waist buckle lived happily in the middle of its adjustable range
usually wears a 32 or 34” waist in pants
but found that the 33” Renen waist was a bit slimmer than any other riding pants he’s been in
At a time where most bike pants feel like borderline leggings
slightly baggy aesthetic without putting any extra material where you don’t want it
There’s a time and a place for ultralight clothes and gravity focused bike pants are certainly not it
The pants use the tried and true Fly-Cam waist buckle with a zipper fly and a stretchy waistband
Fly-Cams are super durable but I happened to recently learn that they’re not indestructible
Turns out that getting them caught in your handlebars during an untimely encounter with a stump leads to complete destruction of both the buckle and fly zipper and leaves pant retention duties to the spare cable tie kept in your bottom bracket
that happened to some other older pants that I wasn’t particularly fond of
The pocket department on these pants is a bit understaffed
Only one can be found but it’s in my ideal spot to keep my phone - on the left outer thigh
The low profile zipper offered a seamless appearance but getting my phone in and out was cumbersome because of it
I don’t like having to choose between riding with a pack or no multi-tool but these pants forced me into that ultimatum when I couldn’t store it on the bike
The jersey is also constructed with a smart mix of materials
Tough forearm material is good for bashing brush and ultralight mesh is wicked good at evaporating sweat (pun intended)
The printing is not crinkly or uncomfortable
The reflective decals on both the jersey and pants are a nice touch for night rides
especially in the case where you leave your tail light in the garage because you forget that dropping your truck off at the mechanic before your ride means that you need to pedal through town to get home
The pants felt a little heavy and clunky at first
but their soft comfort quickly took control as they broke in
They took shape and made me forget I was even wearing them
they feature a blend of thoughtfully patterned and carefully selected fabrics
Ventilation is adequate without showing off my (lack of) upper thigh tan or giving my pedal spikes anything to grab onto on the calf
The moisture-transfer liner isn’t entirely uni-directional which wasn’t ideal on wet rides
Not all gear needs to cater to the PNW rider
but I got unwanted flashbacks of my chamois days when it became waterlogged
an awkwardly placed seam below the rear waistband became apparent when wet and gave the feeling that my pants were falling down
I’ll have to wait until drier times to see how well it can #DrainTheSwamp
I would think the moisture wicking performance could counter the thicker material’s heat retention to keep you cool in warmer climates
there are more breathable pants out there to prevent sweat in the first place
which is every day in the Fall around these parts
the jersey wasn’t quite up to par with the pants’ warmth
The breathability is nice for temperature regulation when pedaling but when the ascent is taken care of by a trusty 3.4 liter V6 motor
I opted for my equally trusty 100% cotton performance layer
Note that I had no desire to change the party in the pants department
Who will get along with Renen’s Bike Kit?If you like just a little flare in your kit and are tired of ultralight performance leggings and jerseys that tear at the sight of a flat pedal or low hanging branch
If you’re tired of needing to bring a change of clothes to the trailhead because either a) your street clothes are just more comfortable or b) you’d be embarrassed to hit the grocery store on the way home while still donning your riding kit
If their style is what you’re seeking
you won’t be disappointed with their performance
Prices are accurate and items in stock at time of publishing
it doesn't ride up – especially when wearing a hip pack
The whole jersey is constructed from Drycycle fabric
The loop collar design eliminates a neck seam and ups the comfort levels
The customized printing option is expensive
The Flow jersey is entirely constructed from Drycycle mesh fabric
a super-soft 4-way stretch technical fabric that is designed to transport sweat away from the skin and offer premium airflow
It’s a slim-fitting cut with a slightly longer length than the norm
with the armholes slightly angled forward to help comfort levels in the riding position
The jersey costs $68/ £65 / €62.95 and like the Renen Unite long-sleeve jersey
there’s the option to get your name and race number printed across the back for an additional $50
I went for a size small in Chalk White, which matches the Black Renen drop shorts as a great looking outfit. The slim fit looks and feels great – the soft Drycyle mesh material is super-soft next to the skin. The longer length and close-cut hem work particularly well when wearing a hip-pack
I can’t say I noticed any advantage of the forward-cut armholes
But what mattered was breathability – especially in the warmer months I was testing
with the jersey doing a great job of wicking sweat and keeping me cool
and it’s surprisingly snag-resistant
so durability is pretty good for a fabric that does feel quite vulnerable
The Renen Flow jersey is one for the warmer months with its high ventilation properties
and the cut is great and its proven durable enough after a few months of riding

The region that will benefit the most by what the SBB calls “the biggest timetable change” in over two decades, is the French-speaking part of the country in the west, which the company previously said will experience fewer direct connections and longer travel times between certain cities due to ongoing construction work
"The new timetable was created with the input of all the cantons of western Switzerland,” the company said in a press release on Tuesday
“Even if the service occasionally deteriorates
it provides new direct connections with the west of Lausanne
as well as reinforced services to the [Vaud] Riviera and Lower Valais in particular.”
Direct connections are maintained during peak hours.”
One of the “great new features of the new timetable” is the service to the Lausanne suburb of Renens by certain mainline trains coming from
This will allow some 4,000 commuters bound for western Lausanne each day to get off directly at Renens rather than changing trains at Lausanne station
“Thanks to the stop at Renens of the IC1 and IR90 trains
passengers will benefit from a new non-stop connection every 30 minutes between Renens and Geneva
with a travel time saving of nine minutes compared to today,” according to the SBB
“The stop of the IR90 trains also makes it possible to offer a direct link between Valais and Renens every hour; the stop of IC1 trains
the shortest journey time between Geneva and Lausanne for mainline trains increases from 35 to 39 minutes
What about the timetable for the rest of Switzerland
As soon as the Gotthard Base Tunnel is fully in use again in September 2024
as well as the EC Basel–Lucerne–Milan and the tri-national Frankfurt–Zurich–Milan train will operate again
The direct Zurich–Brig train will now run all year round and will be extended to Domodossola
the Federal Office of Transport (FOT) will initiate the consultation procedure for the proposed timetable
Any inconsistencies can be reported until June 9th
The new timetable will come into force on December 15th

Ruard Van Renen, who was tied with Ranuak Khosla as the highest-scoring mid-major swimmer at the 2023 Men’s NCAA Championships
announced via Instagram on Monday that he would be transferring to the University of Georgia
who spent his freshman season with the University of Southern Illinois
will have three remaining years of eligibility left with the Bulldogs
he placed 9th in the 100 back (44.67) and 13th in the 200 back (1:40.22) at the 2023 NCAA Championships
A post shared by Ruard Van Renen (@rawwwrd)
Van Renen, who is South African, also cited Georgia’s South African head coach Neil Versefeld and South African Georgia women’s team swimmer Dune Coetzee as reasons as to why he chose the school
“I felt that UGA had a good understanding when it came down to international students having other meets than just NCAAs and conferences,” Van Renen said
UGA is able to held their students tremendously in the classroom which helps a lot when you miss school due to meets.”
Prior to college, Van Renen was recruited by Southern Illinois assistant coach Johno Fergusson
With Urlando missing the majority of the 2022-23 NCAA season due to injury
Van Renen would have been the fastest 100 backstroke and the third-fastest 200 backstroker for the Bulldogs last season
Here’s what Georgia’s backstroke depth chart could have looked like with Van Renen this season:
From the 2021-22 to the 2022-23 season, Georgia dropped from 8th to 12th overall at NCAAs after losing their top scorers in Matt Sates and Luca Urlando
with individual scorers like Grum and Dunham returning for fifth years and the addition of Van Renen
My sources tell me Luca Urlando will not be swimming collegiately in 2023-24
I said below (earlier) someone is not going to be there and that is why there was money available for this guy
SwimSwam might know something since they didn’t list the NCAA and American record holder
Luca has so far stuck with “I can’t say anything yet.”
He wasn’t announced with the group of 5th years coming back to Georgia who all announced together
why would he be announced with the 5th years
2023-2024 would be his “standard” senior year (he was in the 2020 recruiting class)
And still…his response to our question wasn’t “I’m all-in on Georgia
The fact that the answer was “I can’t talk about my plans” still seems significant
I think he’s going pro and moving training groups
He popped up in Regan Smith’s IG stories today
Because developing a 21.4 50 freestyle into a 19.6 in just two years indicates bad coaching
There must be a good reason why they have a scholarship opening for him!?
makes me wonder who isn’t going to swim this year
they might still have the Sates money since that was so late in the semester
They didn’t really replace his caliber on the roster last year
and I’d venture to say Georgia was sitting on more money than that

Wish he could’ve stayed in the MAC long enough to win an NCAA title
but glad I got to witness his impressive swims in-person this year
Best of luck in Athens (certainly an upgrade from Carbondale!)
Edit: everywhere is better than Carbondale
Rockford and Kankakee are not better than Carbondale
1/3 of my team (including myself) got violently ill and had to scratch the last day of conference
So Carbondale has not exactly left me with fond memories 😂
Everywhere is better than Carbondale and their coaching staff
Matt Sates is off sighing to himself somewhere

Geneva’s Brainwaves throw us a low-tempo curveball with a collaborative LP from Estebahn and friend Yolek
The Brainwaves crew have to be one of our favourite small DJ/Producer crews today. Shored up in Geneva, the core members of Estebahn, Hermeth, Weith, Tout Casser and HTN run things with a precise attitude: serious when it comes to their beats and artwork
and everything else coming with a fair share of light-hearted humour
Last we touched base with Estebahn, we heard of Brainwaves’ plans to take the “Swiss multinational investment label and musical services company” to the next level by gradually inviting friends from further abroad to share space on their label with remixes, such as Solid Blake’s touch-up of Estebahn’s ‘This Rock‘
It seems that those plans took a hyperspeed turn during Planet Earth’s calamitous last year
resulting in the Brainwaves family taking an off-planet excursion to musically spar with alien anomalies for corporate gain
with Estebahn’s soundclash with Yolek being the first to return from the cold reaches of the universe
Besides knocking a healthy 30BPM off the standard Brainwaves tempo
the result of Yolek’s duel with Estebahn seems to also inundate the typical fare of breakbeat and acid with a decent dose of trance and kicks ready to drown you with their weight
‘Renens Low Kick‘ comes up close to the top of the pile: shifting through permutations of bass-ridden trance infected with breaks
the result of the warring collaboration clearly contains elements from each participant
whilst remaining something neither would have created alone
‘Leck Meine Bahn’ is scheduled for release 11 August via Brainwaves. Order a copy from Bandcamp

the future of artificial intelligence and data storage plays a crucial role in shaping industries and businesses
Renen Hallak (pictured)
founder and chief executive officer of Vast Data Inc.
has been at the forefront of this transformation
he shares his vision for the future and how Vast Data’s platform is poised to change the way the enterprise manages and utilizes data
Vast Data’s journey began with an ambitious vision — enabling fast access to vast amounts of information for AI applications
Hallak’s inspiration stemmed from the realm of AI even before the storage system’s development started
“It was all about how do we give fast access to a lot of information to enable these new algorithms and these new applications,” he said
“And this is one more step that we make in that direction.”
Launching its data platform in 2019 was a big step
It was in 2016 when Vast began working on a storage system designed to support the AI of the future
AI was limited to finding cats in YouTube videos
We didn’t know that it would work,” he said
“We didn’t know that this path was the right one
but we thought that if it was possible to do the things that we presented in this keynote
Hallak spoke with theCUBE industry analysts John Furrier and Dave Vellante at the Vast presents: Build Beyond event
SiliconANGLE Media’s livestreaming studio
They discussed Hallak’s vision for the future of AI and data storage through Vast’s platform
the power of scale and the rise of data developers
While today’s systems excel at natural language processing and pattern matching
they fall short when it comes to generating genuinely new ideas
he firmly believes that technology is on the cusp of true AI
where machines will generate original thoughts and solve complex problems
He anticipates that innovation and the pace of change will continue to accelerate as more people embrace the possibilities of AI
“We’re a lot further along than I thought we would be in 2023 and definitely a lot further along than we were when we started,” Hallak said
“As more people see that something is possible
they try it and they innovate on top of it
And [tech] acceleration happens just from that.”
Vast’s unique architecture is centered around scale
It was designed to break the traditional trade-offs between storage and data systems and allows qualitative advantages with more data
you turn from a quantitative advantage to a qualitative advantage
and new abilities emerge as you give these systems more data,” he said
This ability to handle exabyte-scale data opens up new possibilities across various industries
autonomous driving companies can use Vast’s technology to enable cars to collaborate and tackle complex problems through real-time data access
and data is becoming the focal point of application development
He envisions a future where all developers become data developers
Applications will revolve around data manipulation
“They were writing to storage systems and reading from storage systems and from databases
Now we have data and data flows in and data needs to be manipulated and cleaned and authenticated and encrypted.”
The introduction of these data functions as data flows into a system is driving a fundamental shift in the development paradigm
This transformation is already taking place in new workloads and is expected to be adopted across all types of workloads
Vast Data aims to make this transition seamless
supporting standard interfaces and keeping the development process easy and simple
industries are creating their own clouds tailored to their specific needs
Vast sees itself as an enabler for these clouds
the company believes it’s uniquely positioned to support and manage data for these industry clouds
Vast’s customers will reap the benefits of scale as they gain access to previously untapped insights
The platform’s ability to analyze extensive amounts of data in real time empowers organizations to make data-driven decisions that were once unthinkable

Hallak acknowledges the hard work behind Vast’s success
Being in the right space at the right time has undoubtedly contributed to the company’s growth
focus on customers and ability to stay ahead of the curve has propelled it to become the fastest-growing infrastructure company in history
“We’ve been growing since we started … we’ve been growing in a very efficient manner,” he said
“We’re not burning through cash in order to fuel that growth
We’ve been generating cash for the last few years.”

Renen Hallak tells CRN his company has plenty of money in the bank and took the new funding round to reassure everyone the company is here to stay
He also says his company has two strategic investors
the latter of which never thought it was investing in a future competitor
So what does a storage startup that has plenty of cash in the bank and which is already cash-flow positive on fast-growing revenue want with a new round of funding
is an opportunity to assure its stakeholders--customers
and channel partners--that it is a company that is here to stay
At least that’s what CEO Renen Hallak told CRN
Vast Data has only been in the market a couple years with its Universal Storage technology that provides all-flash file and object storage with exabyte scale
something very few IT startups still in their hyper-growth phase can claim
the company on Tuesday unveiled a D-round of funding of $83 million
giving the company a total valuation of $3.7 billion
“We’ve been growing 4x year-over-year into very high numbers
or just around $100 million dollars in terms of the software run rate we closed out last year,” Hallak said
“And we closed out last year cash flow-positive
You don’t usually grow at 4x year-over-year and stop burning money.”
and its strategic focus on the AI and analytics storage market which needs high-performance
He also talked about strategic investors including Nvidia
which needs high-performance storage to meet the AI workloads running on its GPU-based technology
an early investor which probably never realized it was investing in a future competitor
For a look at this very unique storage play
one that is nearly all focused on the channel
What is Vast Data? We’re on a mission to build the next great infrastructure company
We started with storage and specifically breaking the trade-off between capacity and performance in storage
allowing our customers to not need to think about storage anymore
and to be able to have fast access to the entirety of their datasets
which was to choose a very small subset of your data that was on a fast system and then everything else was underneath that
and then every everything else was done in an archive
That doesn’t work for these applications anymore
You have a single system that is bigger than anything that came before
as affordable as the most affordable systems
And so we basically allow them to build cloud infrastructure in the way that they would like rather than lean on public clouds or legacy infrastructure
Vast Data closed a funding round for $83 million
giving the company a valuation of $3.7 billion
How does an $83 million round of funding translate to a $3-plus-billion valuation
we still have all of our round B and round C money in the bank
So we had $140 million or so dollars in the bank when we took in this new funding round
than what would normally be the case with a $3.7-billion round
which is mainly an indication of the growth that we’ve been seeing over the last two years
We’ve been growing 4x year-over-year into very high numbers
or just around $100 million dollars in terms of the software run rate we closed out last year
And we closed out last year cash flow-positive
You don’t usually grow at 4x year-over-year and stop burning money
So what's the total investment in the company then
$140 million in the bank before this round
We want everyone to know we’re here to stay and we’ll be here to serve them forever
and they can be comfortable partnering with us and making large investments in our products
also makes them feel comfortable that we’re not going to be acquired by one of the companies that they don’t like
Any examples of what those companies might be
So is this a signal that maybe Vast Data is ready for an IPO
But we don’t have any plans to IPO anytime soon
We love the fact that we’re private and that we have a long-term view of things
We can innovate for our customers for the long-term
We can work with our customers for the long-term
We don’t have that 90-day window that a public company has
We don’t have regulations and compliance slowing us down
And so probably we’ll not go public in the next year or two
What are some things that are driving your business
We’re seeing a lot of AI starting to actually happen
and they’ve doubled down as part of this round
And we’re seeing a lot of AI projects that were just in the garage
forming into real projects with tens and hundreds of petabytes of data behind them
We’re seeing a lot of growth in the financial space
And so we have a separate team working on that part
we’re also obviously adding a lot of features and functionality in order to serve all of the different workloads that our customers want from us
But we’re also starting to think about what’s the next wave of innovation that we want for our customers
And it is also around AI and building that next-generation infrastructure
You talked about some projects going on in AI
They do a lot of machine learning and data analysis AI-type projects with GPUs and with Vast
We have an autonomous driving car company out in the Bay Area that won’t let us use their name but which is also running AI projects on Vast Data
We have government agencies like the National Institute of Health and NOAA (National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration) and NASA all doing a massive data analysis
Are those projects channel partner-led or not
All of them are channel partner-led. In fact, last time we talked was right after our previous round of funding
at which time we didn’t have any channel people yet in the company
and we are in the process of hiring two more
And so we’ll have five people on the channel team
Almost 100 percent of what we sell is through the channel unless a customer specifically asks us not to
And the channel has been our biggest growth engine
We reached $100 million dollars of software sales in two years with less than eight salespeople
The only way we could do that is by leveraging the force multiplier of the channel
Does Vast Data actually sell the storage capacity to customers or is it offered on a consumption basis
about a month ago we announced our new Gemini business model
in the same way that we dis-aggregate the architectural level from capacity and compute from capacity and performance
we’re now dis-aggregating hardware from software
And so our customers can buy their hardware just like a cloud provider would at cost
And the only thing that they buy from us is the software on top of that
And we price that software subscription based on the capacity that they need so that they can grow them independently
And can they grow and shrink capacity as they are needed
We don’t have any customers that have shrunk it yet
one of the metrics that we’re proud of is the fact that when customers start buying
there’s a concept called net dollar retention
which basically looks at how big are the expand deals versus the initial land deal
And any number over 100 percent is considered good
You mentioned Nvidia as one of the investors in the company
Are there any other strategic investors in Vast Data
Dell EMC was one of our first investors from the very early days
The rest of the investors are venture capital
Now do either Dell or Nvidia actually use Vast Data products or are they just investing for now
but I think they’re mainly using it for testing
Isn’t it unusual for a company like Dell to invest in another company that it competes with
I don’t believe that they expected us to be this successful
and that we would compete with them at this level of intensity
they invested in us when we were just an idea on a napkin
told me that I have to tell you that our mission is to build the next great infrastructure company
We'll get his name in there and make him happy somehow
Now for the rest of the year what are you expecting
We’re adding more and more protocols into the product
We’re expanding into more and more workloads as we make our way into the large enterprises
The first 190 apartments in the major "Quartier Horizons" project in Chavannes-près-Renens will be ready for occupation in August
This was announced by Credit Suisse Investment Foundation Real Estate Switzerland
for which three of the four building plots are being developed
the apartments in the first complex are already almost fully let
The residential units in the second building have been on the market since May 2024
"It currently looks very much as if the ambitious target of around 1,500 residents in the Horizons quarter will be achieved by the time it is completed in summer 2025," it says
A total of eight new buildings with 900 residential units are being built
Well over two thirds of the space is earmarked for apartments
Despite the proximity to Lausanne's university district
which would suggest an increase in smaller units
apartments with up to 6.5 rooms will also be created
there will be office and retail space on the first floor of the new buildings
The planned investment volume in the Horizons quarter amounts to CHF 474 million. Credit Suisse Asset Management puts the gross yield at 3.97%. Credit Suisse AM started the construction planning for the project in 2019. One of the building plots will be built over by the original landowners (IB reported)
Ruard van Renen did his research before deciding on Southern Illinois as his college destination
The small-town feel of the Missouri Valley Conference school met the South African backstroker’s specifications
He arrived in Carbondale with an idea of what to expect
“Definitely not,” van Renen said last week at NCAAs
about his foreknowledge of SIU’s obscure mascot
he’s quickly become one of the most accomplished Salukis in program history thanks to a stellar NCAAs in Minneapolis last week
Van Renen made a pair of B finals, finishing ninth in the 100 back and 13th in the 200 back. His 13 points tied the Salukis for 28th place. He’s the first Southern Illinois swimmer to reach NCAAs since 2005 and the first to score since 1995
The freshman hopes it’s just the start for his journey in the U.S
“It’s a big jump for the program,” he said
“I knew coming into the program that I had certain goals
and I definitely feel like we’ve exceeded those goals
It will boost me at training and just to become better.”
Van Renen opted for a path that is no guarantee for a top South African
Elite athletes from that country split fairly evenly in opting for American colleges or staying home to train
like last year’s NCAA champion Matt Sates of Georgia
Van Renen sought a situation that would work for him
The native of Durbanville attended boarding school
he identified the small-town feel of Carbondale as preferrable to a big city
and finding the right setting has eased his adjustment
“I’ve got friends back home that made the transition to the U.S.,” he said
“The easiest way to put it is it’s just a mindset
try to make new friends and that’s what everyone told me
The 200 back on the final day also offered consolation
van Renen rising from the 31st seed to 13th place
One of the challenges van Renen sought in the U.S
Prelims at South African meets can often be a formality for someone of van Renen’s caliber
The experience of fighting through prelims and having to be ready from the start is something he hopes will pay off at bigger meets down the line
Next on his list of goals is the World University Games in the fall
He’ll head to South Africa in April to contest trials
he’s realistic about where he stands in the South African backstroking hierarchy
But van Renen hopes the experience and confidence gleaned from NCAAs will set him up for the summer
“Obviously we’ve got one of the fastest backstrokers in the world at the moment in Pieter Coetzee
so it’s not that I’m going to go back home and it’s going to be just me,” he said
“… I feel like I’m going to go back home and hopefully I can give him a run for his money this year

Ruard van Renen, who has been taking P2Life Nutritional supplements daily for well over a year
has just completed a year most swimmers can only dream of having
a freshman swimming for Southern Illinois University
But that was before he made an unprecedented drop in the 100-yard backstroke
to win the Consolation finals at the NCAA’s Championships last week in yet another PB
That time took Ruard’s US ranking from 227th in 2022 to 6th in just five months
But his incredible improvement doesn’t stop there
Since last October Ruard has also dropped over two seconds in the 100-yard freestyle
Add a quick 46.1 in the 100-yard butterfly to his repertoire and you start to understand why heads are turning
His performance at the NCAAs was a major talking point amongst coaches
especially after recently announcing he was entering the transfer portal – Ruard now has every college coach in the US drooling over the thought of getting him on their team
His backstroke prowess is already guaranteed to add valuable NCAA points
But based on his incredible improvements in free and fly as well
Ruard joins the new breed of superb and successful young swimmers such as Katie Grimes
Matt Sates and Pieter Coetze who have each seen tremendous improvements in their swimming performance since adding P2Life Nutritional Supplements to their daily dietary routines
recently commenting “P2Life definitely made me feel stronger inside and outside the pool”
Ruard is headed back to South Africa to compete in the RSA Nationals and World Championship trials from April 12 – 16
coached by the talented and highly regarded young coach Keith Jansen
will swim with fellow P2Life Ambassadors World Record Holder Matt Sates
2023 South African Sportsman of the Year Pieter Coetze
and a host of other South African young swim stars
Ruard’s recent performances promise PB’s in South Africa
The only question is – just how fast will Ruard swim
Ruard’s lifetime best 100 LCM backstroke is 57.04 from 2022; Coming off his 44.67 100-yard time at NCAAs he promises to demolish that time and have a great race with fellow P2Life swimmer Pieter Coetze
who won the World Junior Swim Champs last year
Keep up with Ruard’s progress via his Instagram!
The evidence is clear; an increasing number of swimmers are taking P2Life
and they’re consistently achieving Personal Best Times as they move up the World Swim Rankings
As P2Life Founder and International Swimming Hall of Fame Inductee Tim Shead Explains
ultimately depends on the level of HEALTH of the athlete
Everyone knows you won’t swim your best when sick
is to make sure your body has every nutrient it needs 24/7/365
That is exactly why P2Life Nutritional supplements were developed
And P2Life does it in three critically important ways
P2Life supplements are nutritionally dense and complete
supplying every nutrient the human body needs
So complete you could literally survive and thrive taking just P2Life
Given the tremendous daily nutritional needs of a swimmer
P2Life is guaranteed to fill any nutritional deficiencies that may exist from one’s daily eating routine
P2Life supplies additional important nutrients not found in normal foods
nutrients proven to safely and effectively increase your health and performance
If you dont supplement – you wont get these important health
recovery and performance assisting nutrients
P2Life nutritional supplements do not bulk up an athlete or supply unnecessary calories
A swimmer must increase strength and power without gaining size or weight which greatly increases water resistance
powerful bodies that knife through the water
P2Life Nutritional supplements are not magic
highest quality nutrients that will help elevate and enhance your health
helping your body consistently train harder
all of which help insure you to achieve magical performances
Matt and Pieter are just a few clear examples of this fact
they are still very young and their best is definitely yet to come
It is simple; if you are not taking P2Life
and current Masters swimmer with over 45 World records
Importantly Tim practices what he preaches
he has taken P2Life products for over 40 years and had lifetime best times at 55 years of age
faster than when he attempted to make the US Olympic team in 1976 as a 20+ year old

Renen Schorr has just enjoyed his last edition of the Cannes Film Festival in his role as director of the prestigious Sam Spiegel School for Cinema and Television in Jerusalem
which he has spearheaded over the past 30 years
The Israeli cinema industry veteran announced his departure in the Israeli press on the eve of the festival and is now on a swansong tour.
“I will be stepping down from the school in five months’ time
”Until then I am working full steam ahead while the board of directors selects a he or a she to replace me
Schorr plans to continue running the associated Sam Spiegel Film Lab
a seven-month programme modelled on the Sundance and Torino Labs which has helped films including Laszlo Nemes’s Cannes Grand Jury Prize winner-Son of Saul
Quizzed on life after the Sam Spiegel School
I’ll keep my civil rights to surprise… I might stay in the film industry
do nothing at all… I’ve been on call 24 hours a day for 30 years
it is time for me to take back my life.”
the Sam Spiegel School has nurtured a raft of Israeli film-making talent including Rama Burshtein
Schorr is going to hot-foot it to the Tel Aviv International Documentary Festival
for the premiere on May 25 of the feature-length work The Voice of Ahmad
Created by alumni of the Sam Spiegel School For Cinema and Television
the work revisits the 1966 Israeli short I Am Ahmad
about a Palestinian labourer from the North who is unable to secure an apartment to rent in Tel Aviv
the students re-explore the present reality of the Palestinians living within Israeli borders
exploring the deteriorating relationship between Jewish and Palestinian citizens and looking at whether co-existence will ever be possible
It’s an activist film,” said Schorr. “20% of Israeli citizens are Palestinian
They’re part of our population but Israel is very racist towards them.”
It is the third film in the so-called Jerusalem Sam Spiegel Alumni Trilogy
in which graduates revisit short Israeli films dating back to the 1960s when the local cinema industry was in its infancy and the original work gets restored.
The first film was Footsteps in Jerusalem
paying tribute to David Perlov’s 1963 In Jerusalem
which screened simultaneously on one day in 50 locations worldwide
Schorr is now gearing up for the final pitching event of the eighth edition of the Sam Spiegel Lab taking place July 4-9 in Jerusalem
highlights will include a special tribute to Sony Pictures Classic co-founder and co-president Michael Barker
The distribution veteran will receive its Force-of-Nature award and also give a masterclass about film poster art.
Principal photography scheduled for later this year

“I'm a little bit uncomfortable with the thought that these are my last hours on this planet, that I be put to sleep, and some of you my friends will say a final goodbye, for the last time.” These were the words Israeli activist Renen Raz wrote to friend and fellow activist Ronnie Barkan less than a year ago
He was about to undergo a life-saving operation
and decided to reach out to friends and loved ones
Raz had more to say to his friends last year
I know I didn't do much in my 27 years of living
I hope that if it is really my Last Breath I wish it can do more
I am fascinated by the thought of writing when I know I am taking a risk […] that might be not the best one
but it [is] something [that] need[s] to be done
And thinking of leaving this world beyond is not a happy place to be in
and to all the activities in which I take part
For my life as LGBT… I never was in love
and maybe only in the very last period of time
I am strong because I push myself to be a better man
Raz's story began as a boy growing up in Kibbutz Dorot near the border with Gaza. He later became an anti-colonial and openly Queer activist. In an interview in 2014
Raz recalled how his upbringing in Dorot affected his politics:
Des ruines de l’ancien village palestinien qui était là
avant qu’Israël ne soit créé et qu’on expulse les Palestiniens
Lorsque j’ai découvert pour la première fois ces ruines
et j’ai compris que nous occupions un pays
que l’endroit où je vis se situe sur des terres volées
Ruins of the ancient Palestinian village that was here
long before Israel was created and Palestinians were expelled
When I discovered these ruins for the first time
and I understood that we were occupying a country
that the country I live in is built on stolen land
I'm writing to you because I'm compelled to act in solidarity with my Palestinian friends
who are living under Israeli occupation and apartheid
Remember my Palestinian friends who are living under Israeli military occupation will not be able to attend your show because they are not permitted to enter Israel
Please don't collaborate with oppression and racism

In April this year, 972mag reported the following example of pinkwashing:
The LGTBQ community in Israel is threatening to hold a huge demonstration instead of the internationally lauded annual Tel Aviv Pride Parade this year. The bold threat is the result of an announcement that the Tourism Ministry was budgeting NIS 11 million ($2.9 million) to promote the event overseas – 10 times the combined yearly budget of all LGTBQ organizations in Israel
Why most #bds activists are not aware of #pinkwashing #apartheid? #lgbt right are #humanrights
— Renen Raz (@RenenRaz) 14 January 2016
Here is is talking about Pinkwashing with BDS Austria on September 11
As soon as the news of his passing made it to social media
Israeli and Palestinian activists expressed their sympathies to his friends and family and remembered him as a dedicated activist
The Israeli, Palestinian and international photography collective ActiveStills released a statement observing that “Renen was committed to the struggle against the Israeli occupation
taking a prominent part in the Boycott From Within campaign.” They shared two photos of Raz
one of him being arrested by the IDF during a protest against the occupation the West Bank village of Nabi Saleh in 2011 and another of him taking part in Pride Parade in West Jerusalem in 2010
We are deeply saddened by the loss of activist Renen Raz, who passed away today of illness. Our deepest condolences to his family #AATApic.twitter.com/2JOnDEK38L
— Activestills (@activestills) 24 October 2016
Taoufiq Tahani, the president of the Association France Palestine Solidarité, described him as:
il est rapidement devenu un contact important pour nos missions en Palestine
particulièrement pour le groupe jeunes de l’AFPS
he quickly became an important contact for our missions in Palestine
Mohammed Matter, the founder of Gaza Youth Breaks Out, remembered Raz fondly:
he would not remain silent and didn't stop denouncing the atrocities of the zionist occupation
Our comrade Renen Raz passed away today after a long struggle with a difficult disease
His kind heart rebelled against all forms of injustice and violence
Younes Arar, from Hebron, told his more than 40,000 followers:
peace and justice fighter who dedicated his self for our just cause
you shall be missed and remembered…My deep condolences to his family
Haitham Khatib, a freelance photographer from Ramallah, did the same with his followers:
Rene was above all a kind man and friend and amazing activist who visited Bil'in many times to support our Palestinian freedom struggle
We are so blessed that he joined us and we keep him in our memory and hearts
Hamde Abu Rahma, another photographer from Ramallah, wrote:
Rest in peace yaa habibi ,as he used to call me when we meet before the demonstrations against the Israeli occupation
an Israeli activist and a member of Boycott From Within
A sweet and delicate soul left us this morning after a long battle with his illness
Finally, human rights activist Dalia VK wrote a moving farewell letter on her blog
Remember when we walked along the beach in Tel Aviv and you felt my heavy heart when I looked at the sea and you told me that this sea belonged to all Palestinians and one day we will all be able to see it again together
Remember when you said you won’t stop until Palestine will be free

Aux Entrepôts is a new neighbourhood in Renens
whose masterplan marks the transformation of an industrial rail-side terrain into a contemporary urban pedestrian zone
Located about 3 kilometres to the west of Lausanne
is the municipality of Renens; a leafy commuter-suburb
with a population of around 140.000; Renens is seamlessly integrated into an extensive public transportation network of bus
facilitating easy access from Lausanne’s city centre
The area is notably the terminus for the city’s east-west metro line
only a few hundred metres from a once underutilised strip of land
previously used by the city as a storage area for cargo shipped by trains
has been transformed under the guidance of KCAP into a lively residential and work neighbourhood
rejuvenating a former entrepôts brownfield site
KCAP’s masterplan for the entrepôts area in Renens marks the transformation of an industrial rail-side terrain into a contemporary urban pedestrian zone
This development harmonises the unique features of the site—such as multiple access points
shopping and public amenities)—and an engaging urban structure rich in history and unique building typologies
within the existing natural urban landscape
A central element of this masterplan for the gently sloping site
vibrant alley running east-west across the territory
around which the new urban geography is articulated
This central axis not only fosters cross-ways connections but also gives rise to diverse public spaces
transforming former north-south warehouse paths into new residential routes
The design integrates the park-promenade along the ‘Mèbre’
extending it over Rue du Simplon towards the railway tracks
enhancing the pedestrian and bicycle network
crafts a nuanced mix of semi-public and private areas
creating an intimate urban village feel centered around this main axis
Ground-level housing units feature gardens that extend living spaces outdoors
while residents on higher floors are encouraged to engage with communal garden plots
fostering a sense of community and connection to the immediate area
This staggered implementation approach ensured a natural integration of the new development into its surroundings
contributing to the overall urbanity of the area without erasing its historical essence
the design for Renens enhances the existing urban fabric by adding new layers of functionality and livability
sustainable neighbourhood that respects its industrial past while looking forward
