Things are going well at the Swiss branch of the Vorarlberg-based private bank
Double-digit growth achieved again in 2024
Hypo Vorarlberg in St.Gallen achieved strong growth in the 2024 financial year. Total assets increased by 11.4 percent to 1.481 billion Swiss francs
Net operating income reached an all-time high of 6.8 million francs
Customer assets under management increased by 10.2 percent or 24.9 million francs
while customer loans rose by 10.4 percent or 108.3 million francs
Net interest income grew by 4.3 million francs to 14.6 million francs
Commission income rose to 1.0 million francs
This is partly due to the doubling of asset management mandates
Trading income remained stable at 0.62 million francs
personnel expenses increased by 15.8 percent to 4.7 million francs
This is due to the increase in personnel (+9 employees)
Material costs rose by 29.9 percent to 4.2
primarily due to investments in digitalization and increased outsourcing costs
«We are on a sustainable and healthy growth path,» says Walter Ernst
The bank is also well on track in the current year: business volume in the first four months is up on the previous year
The bank is growing in both the private and corporate client business in German-speaking Switzerland
The assets structure advisory service introduced in 2021 is also developing positively

The world’s smallest ski resort officially opened on Saturday
drawing around 200 visitors despite the complete absence of snow
and a mountain station housed in a converted residential building
is both a nostalgic tribute to traditional T-bar lifts and a commentary on climate change
The launch event featured an artistic performance by Swiss artist Roman Signer
while guests gathered at the après-ski bar
the resort lacks an operating permit for skiing
as the lift’s distance is deemed too short to meet regulations
The ski lift was previously installed for over 60 years at the Klausenböhl in Gais
and is now having a second life for two months at the art installation in St
The installation, created by four artists, has transformed the house into a fully functional mountain station, complete with an Airbnb rental and a souvenir shop. The tiny ski area quickly gained widespread media attention in the lead-up to its opening, sparking curiosity about its unconventional take on alpine culture. The project dubbed “Grey Sky” will run until March 29
The company Halter AG is allowing the artists to use the property for two months before the house is bulldozed to make way for a new construction project in mid-2025
the world’s smallest resort embraces its role as an artistic statement rather than a serious ski destination—offering visitors a playful yet thought-provoking experience in the heart of an urban environment
A day pass for Grey Sky is CHF 80 and a multi-trip ticket (13 trips) is CHF 5
University of St Gallen has topped the FT MiM Ranking in 13 of the last 14 years ©University of St Gallen / Facebook
The University of St Gallen has reclaimed the top spot in the 2024 Financial Times Master in Management Ranking after losing its crown in 2023
Key stories from this year's FT MiM Ranking
By Matt Kefford
The Swiss-based school dominated the ranking for 12 years until the perennial runner up, HEC Paris, managed to vault its position in 2023
St Gallen reclaims first place in 2024 due to strong performances in a variety of areas.
In key metrics related to salary performance and career progression
St Gallen excelled against other European rival schools
It ranked among the top five schools for the average salaries earned three years after graduation
while 98% of students found jobs within three months of graduating and a further 93% said studying the school’s flagship Master in Strategy and International Management helped achieve their aims
St Gallen’s career service also ranked top among all listed schools.
The school was helped by strong showings in metrics related to diversity
such as the percentage of international students among the cohort (88%) and the proportion of women among students (47%).
The Financial Times also places significant weight upon how schools prepare students to perform on a global stage
International course experience ranks schools according to whether students complete exchanges and internships in other countries while studying
International work mobility ranks schools by their success in placing students in jobs in new locations
In these categories St Gallen placed 13th and third
One newcomer in the Financial Times MiM list for 2024 is INSEAD
A world-renowned business school that has topped multiple FT rankings across different program types
2024 is the first year that INSEAD has been eligible to participate in the ranking since it established its MiM degree in 2020.
taking the place of the UK’s London Business School which falls to sixth and beating out competition from other well-renowned business schools in France
INSEAD is buoyed by strong showings in the international work mobility category and its high proportion of international students and faculty.
HEC Paris and now INSEAD are institutions that make up the overwhelmingly large contingent of European business schools which dominates the FT MiM Ranking each year.
with six based in France making it the most well-represented country
China is the only non-European country to feature within the top 20.
Across the 100 schools represented in this years’ ranking
with HEC Paris and INSEAD followed by the likes of EDHEC Business School (4th)
with 10 schools overall led by LBS (sixth)
Germany has seven schools among the top 100
while Spain has five and Switzerland and Portugal each have four.
Business schools in Asia comprise a significant portion of the ranking
Indian business schools take up 14 spots in the 2024 list
They are led by SP Jain Institute of Management and Research (35th) and Indian Institute of Management Ahmedabad (39th).
there are also business schools from Taiwan and Singapore among the list.
While each year the number of Master in Management degrees available in the US increases, including at top institutions such as the University of Chicago Booth School of Business and Carnegie Mellon’s Tepper School of Business
there are just two US institutions in the 2024 list
They are Hult International Business School (44th) and University of South Carolina Moore School of Business (79th)
the MBA degree has always been the favored generalist degree type among business schools.

with the Polo Club de Saint-Tropez in Haras de Gassin replacing the traditional Swiss venue as host to one of the four 2025-qualifiers in the FEI's own Nations Cup series
St. Gallen was one of four venues that made the cut to host one of this year's qualifiers in the inaugural season of the Longines League of Nations™ and was originally named by the FEI as a host for the 2025
after having also been part of the previous FEI Jumping Nations Cup™-series.
However, this year’s qualifier in St. Gallen – scheduled during the last week of May – had to be cancelled due to adverse weather conditions.
and due to uncertainty regarding the future plans for the arena
Gallen will no longer be part of the Series moving forward," the FEI stated about its decision
Swiss Equestrian explains that it together with the organising committee of CSIO St
Gallen has pulled out all the stops to ensure the future of the historic and traditional event by coming up with massive improvements to the infrastructure of the footing at the Gründenmoss arena
“It is a shock and at the same time an affront to Swiss equestrian sport,” commented Damian Müller
“This decision not only has an impact on the athletes and their entourages
but also on the entire organising committee
the volunteers and the Swiss Equestrian Friends
who passionately follow the Swiss riders at Gründenmoss every year.”
the federation has invested resources and time to support Longines CSIO St
Gallen and its organising committee with the aim of ensuring that it could take place under the best possible conditions,” Müller said
“We understand that important improvements need to be made to the footing
investments have already been made and work has begun
which has shaped Swiss equestrian history like no other event
deserves to continue to exist as a Longines League of Nations event
We share the disappointment of everyone involved and the fans
“We are determined to work with our partners and the FEI to organise an event of this magnitude in Switzerland again in the near future
I personally take over the coordination and call on all equestrian fans to fight together for Swiss equestrian sport,” Müller added
The organisers of Longines CSIO St. Gallen stated that they were “surprised and disappointed” by the news
Gallen were informed today that the FEI has decided to prematurely terminate the contract signed for the Longines League of Nations for the period of 2024 to 2027,” read a statement published on CSIO St
“Following the cancellation of the Longines League of Nations qualifier in St
Gallen on 31 May 2024 due to extremely heavy rainfall
the organisers have together with the city and canton of St
Gallen and with support from Swiss Equestrian put all necessary and possible means in place to improve the quality of the show ring already for 2025.”

as the diocese's cathedral chapter has already sent Rome a list of six candidates
is one of several dioceses in the German-speaking Catholic world where the cathedral chapter plays a leading role in selecting a new bishop
The diocese in northeastern Switzerland said in September that the chapter had proposed the temporary expansion of the candidate field to succeed Bishop Markus Büchel
who submitted his resignation when he turned 75 Aug
The diocese said the change would double the number of candidates
It would only be temporary because otherwise the Holy See would need to renegotiate the concordat
approved the change on behalf of the Vatican
But it also needed the lay parliament’s backing
which came after the list was submitted to Rome
Only the cathedral canons and Vatican officials currently know whether the shortlist of six includes the names of religious priests, according to the Swiss Church website kath.ch
The St. Gallen diocese announced Aug
15 that Pope Francis had approved the start of the process to find a new bishop
the cathedral canons had three months to prepare for the election of Büchel’s successor
Local Catholics were caught off guard because they had not expected the pope to initiate the process so soon after Büchel’s 75th birthday
Büchel will remain in office until the appointment of his successor
meaning there will be no vacancy period in which the diocese is run by an administrator
The episcopal selection process began with a survey of Church groups
led by the Swiss Institute of Pastoral Sociology (SPI) in St

The SPI published the survey results Sept

the Catholic Church in Switzerland has democratically organized regional bodies known as cantonal churches
The Catholic Church in St. Gallen consists not only of the diocese but also a body called the Catholic Denominational Section of the Canton of St. Gallen (Katholischer Konfessionsteil des Kantons St. Gallen)
The body is recognized as a corporation under public law and has a constitution
It is responsible for the construction and maintenance of buildings

is responsible for formulating an annual Church budget and approving of annual accounts
Participants in the synod on synodality expressed a wish in their final document “that the People of God have a greater voice in choosing bishops.” But they did not specify whether this should be based on the Swiss model.
Gotta say, this sounds pretty good. One of the awful things about clerical life today is trying to just maintain institutional stuff.
What I get queasy about is the decision-making issues that the previous article brought up. There are good reasons why "trusteeism" was fought so hard here in the United States. I like the idea of clerics being accountable for financial stuff, etc. to competent laity, but not if this accountability could be used to hold the Church hostage from necessary spiritual reform. That's the risk.

Gallen public transport company (VBSG) has announced that it is cancelling the supply contract signed with Ebusco in the spring for twelve electric buses and putting the procurement of the vehicles out to tender again
The dozen electric buses were actually due to hit the streets of St
This timetable is unlikely to be met even with another manufacturer
The reason given by VBSG is that the Dutch bus manufacturer failed to fulfil various contractual obligations due to its difficult economic situation
The framework conditions for the new tender are currently being finalised internally
Ebusco’s competitors are thus being given another chance
For the Dutch company, this is just one of many recent setbacks. In September, the Scandinavian transport company Connect Bus cancelled an order for 47 electric buses from Ebusco in favour of BYD as the new supplier
The background to this is that Ebusco has been struggling for stability for months
there has been a lot of movement: At the beginning of September
Christian Schreyer succeeded the previous management duo Peter Bijvelds and Michiel Peters as sole CEO
There were also personnel changes on the Supervisory Board
to a newly developed reorganisation plan to lead Ebusco back into calmer waters
A ray of hope remains: In November, it became public that the Chinese battery manufacturer Gotion High-Tech was investing in Ebusco. Shortly afterwards, the company realised proceeds of 36 million euros with a share issue
which the company management described as “essential for the continued existence of the company.” This was because the company’s balance sheet presented prior to the initiated reorganisation was striking: Ebsuco recorded a loss of over 60 million euros in the first half of the year alone
Although the company has over 1,600 electric buses on its order books
it was only able to deliver 98 vehicles in the first two quarters

the triple crown-accredited University of St.Gallen prepares students to navigate peaks with confidence and skill
The Master in Strategy and International Management (SIM)
Since its inception in 2004, the programme has set the benchmark for management education. By 2022, it had ranked #1 in the Financial Times Global Masters in Management Ranking for 12 consecutive years. In 2024, it is once again #1
This success stems from its “from insight to impact” philosophy
and international management through unique opportunities for personal and professional growth
The three-semester 90 ECTS credit curriculum begins with a week of seminars and networking
Lessons are delivered in small classrooms for personalised attention
SIMmies engage in global projects aligned with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)
and XHUMA tackle critical issues like education
students learn to scale the peaks of their careers and make a meaningful impact with the SIM as their guide — these stories are proof of that
Oya Sarah Houalla felt a need for deeper self-understanding and more defined career goals
This led her to the University of St.Gallen
“I was drawn to its reputation as one of the top business schools in Europe
with a vibrant student life and a focus on practical experience,” she shares
what attracted me to the SIM programme was its community
As part of her Strategic Management course
Houalla worked on a project that required developing strategic recommendations for Tencent to internationalise and enter new markets
Two words Oya uses to describe her journey so far are “engaging” and “transformative”
Group projects have enhanced her problem-solving skills and her ability to collaborate under pressure
Working with a diverse cohort has broadened her understanding of different cultures and work styles
This exposure has been instrumental in refining her communication skills and enhancing her adaptability — competencies that came in handy during her internship recruitment process
Oya and her peers conducted mock case interviews
dedicating considerable time to practice and feedback
This preparation helped her secure multiple consulting internship offers in Germany
“The most valuable part of the programme for me has been the SIM community,” says the student
who is gearing up to begin a consulting role in the Middle East once she graduates
“I often reach out to alumni to learn about their experiences in different industries and get advice on my own career
The SIM management team also provides personalised career advice
There’s always a SIMmie ready to help
Anna Sophia is in no way nervous about taking her first professional steps in Zurich
especially since several members of the SIM community are currently based there
Anna Sophia Vendruscolo was instantly drawn to Switzerland as a study abroad destination
The SIM programme was the cherry on top of the cake
“Three key aspects attracted me to the programme: its focus on community and social impact
the high academic standards paired with a practice-oriented approach
a standout experience for Anna Sophia has been her involvement in the SIMagination Challenge
This social impact project allowed her to work with a team on initiatives for Bangladeshi start-ups
which required collaboration with individuals from diverse backgrounds and establishing relationships with corporate partners
It offered her practical experience in project management and cross-cultural teamwork
and deepened her skills in communication and problem-solving
“Studying and working in international contexts
such as during an exchange semester or SIM international internship
equips us to adapt to new situations quickly and build relationships with ease,” says Anna Sophia
who found the university’s career coaching to be equally beneficial
she aligned her career goals with her personal values
and the SIM programme’s networking events helped her build the professional network required to bring these aspirations to life
Anna Sophia will be joining Bain & Company as an associate consultant in Zurich
“I am confident that the analytical and interpersonal skills developed in the SIM programme will equip me well for this role,” she says
“The grandeur of the country is matched by the genuine nature of its people
who strive for excellence in everything they do,” says Adam
Chi Hong Adam Chan chose to join the SIM programme because of its reputation for impactful social contributions and its focus on meaningful strategy beyond corporate jargon
a pivotal moment in his journey was his involvement in the SIMcubator Rwandaproject
Collaborating and communicating came naturally
considering the connections Adam made on his very first day at St.Gallen
His cohort of 52 represented 31 nationalities
and everyone seemed determined to be instrumental in each other’s success story
“Diversity is at the core of our community,” he says
“Each student brings a different viewpoint
which has greatly enriched my learning process
They have helped me become more open-minded and taught me that sustainable impact often stems from passionate and motivated communities.”
Such friendships made all-nighters all the more enjoyable
Adam recalls once preparing for a presentation for Henkel
Enthusiasm is common for students who balance rigorous academics with downtime
Adam and his friends manage their workload by setting clear priorities and enjoying the best of Switzerland whenever they can
and natural beauty has undoubtedly enhanced my educational journey,” he says

They make it work and after all porotoz is exotic destination in many terms
Because people here obsess only over quantity and about how their airport has more passengers then their neighbors (my di*k is bigger than yours analogy)
It's bizarre because of its uniquenessIt's a flight operated between two small airports with close to zero flights on a small jet that cater primarily to high-end travellers operated by a relatively unknown airlineBizarre isn't an insult

The Viola try to make it 3 wins on the bounce and take control of their Conference League fate to boot
Fiorentina travels north to St
Gallen tomorrow for its second Conference League date of the campaign after getting off to an ugly but successful start against the New Saints
Raffaele Palladino rotated his entire XI against the New Saints and will likely do something similar here
The real question is who gets the nod up front; Moise Kean and Albert Guðmundsson are both out (despite the former being on the squad list)
so we’re probably looking at Christian Kouamé and Lucas Beltrán up front
Gallen manager Enrico Maaßen uses a 4-3-1-2 shape
Gallen want to pack the middle and force opponents wide and often succeed
but struggle to prevent chances from those wide areas
The fullbacks creep too high and the mezzale get sucked inside
leaving an entire third of the pitch unattended
That means the pressure’s on Cristiano Biraghi
They’ll likely have a lot of space to work in
especially if their teammates can combine down one wing and look for the quick switch
Since none of that quartet is known for attacking the back post
they’ll need to figure out other ways to trouble Lawrence Ati-Zigi in goal
Whether that’s quickly sending the ball back into the mixer or shooting themselves
the wide players are the most important guys on the pitch here
trying to get its forwards in behind whenever possible
this was the exact kind of approach that usually did the Viola in: 2 strikers against 2 centerbacks means there’s a lot of space for the attackers
With the visitors likely to dominate possession
that means leaving space for the pacy pair of Willem Geubbels and Felix Mambimbi
Palladino will likely try to minimize transitional opportunities by keeping his double pivot sitting deep and hope that Yacine Adli and Amir Richardson have the pace to track back and offer some extra cover
He’ll also probably keep one of the fullbacks deeper whenever possible to make sure there’s an extra man at the back at all times
all the tactical tweaks don’t mean much if the players can’t get it right
And the players not getting it right has been Fiorentina’s greatest defensive weakness this year
It’s unclear who’ll get the nod in the heart of defense—Lucas Martínez Quarta and Matías Moreno look most likely—but they have to play smart and never lose their marks
Gallen has only been shut out once at home this year and has scored 4 goals 5 times already
They know where the net is and how to put the ball in it
Fiorentina are pretty big favorites among the bookies
limps into this one winless in its past 4 (3 losses) and missing a number of players
it’s not hard to see why they’re the underdogs
these squads are probably on different levels in terms of raw talent
Gallen’s looked beatable this year and hasn’t defended well in space
so I’ll put him down for a goal and an assist
with Beltrán and LMQ rounding off the scoring for the Viola
while Geubbels grabs a late consolation in a game that’s played at a much higher tempo than Palladino likely wants

Gallen has the top Master in Management program in the world according to The Financial Times
HEC Paris nudged aside the University of St
Gallen to win first place in last year’s Financial Times ranking of the best Master’s in Management programs
Gallen had been at the top of the ranking for a dozen straight years
St. Gallen, however, came right back into first place in the new 2024 MiM ranking, while HEC slipped into second. The flip-flop is much less consequential than the strong showing by INSEAD in its first year of eligibility in the ranking. INSEAD’s MiM program, launched in the fall of 2020, placed third ahead of fourth-place Edhec Business School and Shanghai Jiao Tong University
Those two latter schools moved up seven ranking positions from last year when they
While the FT bills this as a global ranking
it would be far more appropriate to call it a European/Asian ranking
schools tend to turn up their noses on this list
the ranking would look significantly different than it does given the stature of U.S
schools chose to participate: Hult International Business School and the University of South Carolina
Yet, a slew of prestige U.S. schools have jumped into the MiM market, including Carnegie Mellon’s Tepper School and the University of Chicago’s Booth School of Business. More than 30 other schools boast MIM programs
the predominant graduate degree in business in Europe is not the MBA but the MiM which is why this ranking conveys major bragging rights among those schools
Some 77 of the 100 ranked programs on the FT list are based in Europe
with 14 MiM programs now ranked by the Financial Times
there were some fairly significant swings in year-over-year rankings
dropping 11 places to rank 28th from 17th last year
while ESADE Business School in Spain declined ten places to remain in the Top 25 but at a rank of 18th vs
the clear winners on this list include the Nova School of Business and Economics
up seven places to rank eighth from 15th last year
A pair of schools in the Top 25 advanced nine places
Tongji University School of Economics and Management in China
Regardless of where a school falls in the FT pecking order
the real winner of the ranking is most likely the degree program itself
The employment rates out of these programs have been consistently high at almost all of the business schools
approaching if not equal to 100% within three months of graduation
eight of the top 25 schools were able to get every single one of their graduates jobs this past year
Another five reported placement rates of 98% or 99%
was the ICN Business School in France which placed only 36% of its graduates three months after commencement
six-figure salaries three years within graduation were the norm
with the grads at Germany’s HHL Leipzig Graduate School of Management reporting the highest average of $140,418
with their salaries inflated due to the FT purchasing parity adjustment
had reported salaries even higher: $156,010 at IIM-Ahmedabad
The lowest salaries were reported by graduates of Durham University Business School: a mere $47,606

Leeds United are working on a deal to sign St

The 24-year-old has been identified as a target for Daniel Farke’s side and a deal between Leeds and the Swiss Super League club is progressing

although he has mostly been a full-back in his 107 games for St

is one of several dioceses in the German-speaking Catholic world where the cathedral chapter plays an important role in selecting new bishops
Under the terms of an 1845 concordat and the 1847 bull Instabilis rerum humanarum natura
Gallen is appointed after a free election by the cathedral chapter within three months of a vacancy
the 13 canons have three months to prepare for the election of Büchel’s successor
The process will begin with a three-week survey of Church groups, led by the Swiss Institute of Pastoral Sociology (SPI) in St
Groups will be asked to identify the qualities needed in a new bishop
Consultations were also held during the last two changes of episcopal leadership
the cathedral chapter will create a shortlist of six priests
before returning it to the cathedral chapter through the nuncio when they have finished
The chapter will then schedule an election day in collaboration with the Catholic College (Katholische Kollegium)
a lay parliament covering the Canton of St
one of the 26 member states of the country officially known as the Swiss Confederation
The lay parliament is a peculiarity of Swiss Catholicism, which operates under what is known as “the dual system.” In addition to the normal diocesan structure
the Catholic Church in Switzerland also has democratically organized regional bodies known as cantonal churches
The body is recognized as a corporation under public law and has its own constitution
It is responsible for the construction and maintenance of buildings
oversees matters such as the creation of an annual Church budget and the approval of annual accounts
It has 180 elected members who meet twice a year
The parliament could play a significant role in the election of St
Gallen’s new bishop because it can declare that three of the six candidates identified by the cathedral chapter and scrutinized by Rome are “less favorable,” resulting in their elimination from the list
The St. Gallen diocesan website said the cathedral chapter was “both well prepared and surprised at how quickly Pope Francis has initiated the new election.”
“On behalf of the entire cathedral chapter, [cathedral dean] Guido Scherrer would like to express his thanks for the trust and prayers that will accompany his work in the coming weeks,” it said.
“All members are aware of the great responsibility and are working seriously and respectfully in this important phase to find valid candidates to succeed Bishop Markus Büchel.”

One of the Catholic world\u2019s most unusual episcopal selection processes is underway in the Swiss Diocese of St. Gallen, involving cathedral canons and a lay parliament, as well as the pope, of course.

Gallen is a renowned three-genre theatre in eastern Switzerland
the ensemble performs approximately 450 shows per year
The performances take place in an iconic theatre building that
Dutch audio innovator Alcons Audio was selected
with its LR18 line-array system serving as the main sound system
Gallen [the official name of the institution] covers a very broad spectrum
youth theatre and occasional guest performances,” explains Marko Siegmeier
“We often deal with +/- 150 inputs and around 70 output channels at the mixing console
As the largest musical theatre in eastern Switzerland
featuring a large open-air opera production and other performances in various locations
This results in highly demanding requirements
subtle amplification of the actors' voices that should ideally go unnoticed
we aim for maximum naturalness to deliver a high-quality sound experience to the audience
we need genre-appropriate reinforcement with sufficient volume and fullness
Dance theatre brings yet another set of requirements.”
the goal was to find a sound system capable of delivering high-resolution audio with a wide and balanced frequency spectrum
along with an optimal transient response over the required
the sound dispersion should be as optimal as possible
with all components working together in maximum coherence
Due to these requirements and structural considerations
a curved line-array system was needed as the main sound reinforcement system
Gallen organised a shoot-out with leading manufacturers
where Alcons Audio's LR18 line-array system impressed across the board in terms of tonality
The Swiss company Kilchemann AG installed a comprehensive sound system to meet the theatre’s demanding requirements
The main sound reinforcement consists of eight Alcons LR18/90 dual 8” compact pro-ribbon line-array units positioned on both the left and right sides
an additional array of four LR18/90 and two LR18/120 units was installed
Low-frequency support is provided by ten BC272 medium-output 15”/12” cardioid subwoofers
which were mounted in the ceiling near the main PA system
four Alcons SR9 dual 5” fill monitors ensure precise audio distribution
while two Alcons QRP20 4x 5” point-source columns serve as infills
the monitoring system includes flown Alcons VR5 5” ultra-compact monitors
as well as VR8 8” compact monitors and RR12 12” point-source array systems to provide clear and reliable sound for performers
the theatre has a selection of versatile speaker systems
including QR24 4x 6.5” column-array modules
QRP20 4x 5” and QRP40 8x 5” point-source columns
BC272 and BF121 12” compact subwoofers further enhance the system’s flexibility for various production needs
The entire in-house sound system is powered by twelve Alcons Sentinel10 4x 2.5kW amplified loudspeaker controllers
additional Sentinel10 and Sentinel3 units are available to ensure high-performance audio in any location
The system had its baptism of fire on 21 October
in a sold-out hall for a grand reopening event featuring the symphony orchestra
with much praise from the audience and industry colleagues for the sound,” says Marko
consistently receiving positive feedback from production teams and guests
A big thank you to Uwe Biesgen from Creativsound and Carsten Albrecht from Alcons Audio Germany for their outstanding support!”
and – ideally – emotionally moving.”
What more could one ask from a sound system

the Viola choose to do things the hard way
but they eventually come away with a well-earned victory
Raffaele Palladino opted for Lucas Martínez Quarta and Matías Moreno in an all-Argentina central defense with Edoardo Bove operating as the number 10
and Jonathan Ikoné had a distinctly familiar feel
and not one that anyone was particularly excited about
The real news, though, was the behavior of the Fiorentina fans
they were quite loud as they marched through the city ahead of kickoff
but managed to control themselves and not start any trouble outside the stadium
24.10.2024, St. Gallen - Fiorentina , Fiorentina in city center before match, check more here: https://t.co/Xddc0yqYsV pic.twitter.com/77dTriqptI
St Gallen came out swinging and Fiorentina seemed a bit surprised that the they had the temerity to press them but it seemed like the Viola weathered the storm amidst clouds of smoke from flares the Viola fans kept throwing
Christian Kouamé had a couple chances to take the lead
The first was a lovely cross from Cristiano Biraghi that he made a mess of; he buried the second after Bove won the ball high up and played him in
Martínez Quarta played a hospital ball out the back that Jordi Quintillà picked off and then slipped in Felix Mambimbi
whose shot deflected off LMQ and trickled in
St. Gallen 0-1 Fiorentina Felix Mambimbi scores pic.twitter.com/7Bje7KxUob
If you thought that would wake the visitors up
They flailed around and failed to gain any purchase on the game
with Yacine Adli getting caught on the ball a few times to let St Gallen drive the other way
Michael Kayode made a dramatic goal line clearance to keep the deficit at a single goal and Riccardo Sottil had a good crack from distance that Lawrence Ati-Zigi pushed away
but the Viola really didn’t muster much of a fightback
Whatever Palladino said to his charges at the break worked
highlighted by Sottil’s deflected shot somehow bouncing off Ati-Zigi’s foot instead of bending into the net
the goalkeeper could do nothing to prevent Martínez Quarta’s header off a Biraghi corner
for spotting a gap and gesturing LMQ to move into that space before taking the kick
the miserable first half had been wiped away and the Viola had a fresh start
⚽️GOAL | St. Gallen 1-1 Fiorentina | Lucas Martínez Quartapic.twitter.com/VATFOODDdP
And they took advantage of that fresh start just 4 minutes later when Bove spotted Ikoné and played a gorgeous
incisive ball through for the winger to run onto
Everyone’s hearts were in their mouths as Chaos Jonny bore down on goal
1-v-1 and with Sottil available for the tap-in
but the Frenchman coolly stroked it home from an angle to give his side the lead
⚽️GOAL | St. Gallen 1-2 Fiorentina | Jonathan IkonéFiorentina gets the lead!pic.twitter.com/aKxSGyAoo0
Another pause for the away fans’ flares didn’t derail the good guys
who’d clearly taken all the momentum with Sottil front and center
St Gallen had a warning sign when Willem Geubbels crossed for Mambimbi at the far post
but the equalizer arrived moments later in spectacular fashion
Captain Lukas Görtler looped a long range header from a free kick over Terracciano and in
but that’s the sort of goal that makes you feel like God has decided to specifically punish you for something
Live: St. Gallen 2-2 Fiorentina ⚽ Goal: Gortler (62')#StGallenFiorentina pic.twitter.com/Liv8w6ECdS
as who else but Fiorentina’s most reliable attacker again came to the rescue
Lucas Beltrán got fouled in midfield but the ref played advantage
allowing Sottil to surge into the box and lay it off for Kouamé
And Jonny on the spot once again slotted home with perfect composure
Despite a lengthy VAR check over the foul on Beltrán—it was a 50/50 challenge—the goal stood and Fiorentina was back in the driver’s seat
Instead of getting to see the teams respond
we got another lengthy stoppage due to the flares
The ref eventually called over both captains and the stadium staff and Biraghi had to tell the morons in the stands that the Viola would be forced to forfeit if another smokebomb came out of their section
It was stupid and puerile behavior from the wannabe tough guys who wanted to make the game about themselves
24.10.2024, St. Gallen - Fiorentina , Fiorentina pyro, check more here: https://t.co/Xddc0yrwit pic.twitter.com/Q9rLwgPq0b
Fiorentina sat back and tried to pick St Gallen off on the break
whose weak finish didn’t really test the goalkeeper
and Kouamé dribbled down his leg when he was clean through
and soon had the Viola pinned in their own penalty area
leaving things poised dangerously until they weren’t
Fabiano Parisi burst forward and found Ikoné on the far side
the rebound dropped kindly for Robin Gosens to sweep home
Live: St. Gallen 2-4 Fiorentina ⚽ Goal: Gosens (94+)#StGallenFiorentina pic.twitter.com/GpOhpG8Dae
Parisi stole the ball direct from the restart and forced another save out of Ati-Zigi
and Ikoné had the entire goal at his mercy from the rebound but remained admirably committed to his brand and fired over
That was the final action as the visitors battened down the hatches for the 10ish minutes of stoppage time
coming away with the win despite that miserable first half
Fiorentina makes it 6 points from 2 games in the Conference League and is now in a pretty good position to qualify directly
although there’s still plenty of time for the wobbles to hit
Rocco Commisso’s about to take one to the wallet
as his team is going to be fined several thousand euros for disrupting the game
not that it’ll make any difference to the yahoos doing the interrupting
For now, though, it’s time to get back to Florence and get ready for a rather uneven AS Roma
A win there could mean moving into the top four
given all the draws at the start of the season
really highlights just how topsy-turvy Serie A’s been so far
It feels like this season’s there for the taking if Palladino and company feel like it

the artist serves up a feast of new media at Kunst Halle Sankt Gallen","url":"https://www.artbasel.com/stories/digital-art-cory-arcangel-kunst-halle-sankt-gallen-giovanni-carmine","image":{"@type":"ImageObject","url":"https://d2u3kfwd92fzu7.cloudfront.net/asset/news/Cory_Arcangel_THMB.png","width":2400,"height":1500}}
Throughout his career, the artist Cory Arcangel has worked to redefine what an artwork is
He has consistently asked what really makes an artwork art
especially in relation to the rise of new media
as NFTs and generative art jostle for places in the artistic canon and the definition of digital art is increasingly scrutinized
Arcangel has joined forces with curator Giovanni Carmine to develop an exhibition exploring how the unstable boundary between what is considered art and non-art has played out over the last decade
The result is ‘ALL I EAT IN A DAY’ at Kunst Halle Sankt Gallen
which presents a selection of media and objects that are relatively new to the institutional landscape: a livestream; an immersive environment; a website; plush toys representing NFTs; and more
If the art world is an all-consuming beast
then this show asks: What happens when new media is digested
Arcangel has navigated the rise of new media within the art world since the beginning of his career
he became fascinated with modifying near-obsolescent video game cartridges; later
he trained an AI to play a discontinued smartphone game
as new computer technologies were becoming widely accessible
resulting in ever-increasing digital image production and circulation
he voiced the anxiety that perhaps new media art created within the context of the art world might not be inherently more valuable than that produced outside it
‘All this stuff out there made by all these people is probably better than the stuff I’m making,’ he said during a discussion as part of the ‘Net Aesthetics 2.0’ event organized by Rhizome in New York

Arcangel says that he believes the medium of an artwork encompasses everything from ‘what the information [gained] from a work does’ to ‘how a work is talked about
and which communities are interested in it.’
Arcangel addresses the specific medium of immersive exhibitions

Galler Kantonalbank has been given new strategic guidelines by its majority shareholder
The aim is to address developments in society and the financial center
Participation in SNB Liquidity Instruments
The adjustments are moderate and the previous objectives have been reaffirmed
it is now planned that SGKB will participate in the instruments provided by the Swiss National Bank to ensure liquidity
the ownership strategy now includes the principles of non-discrimination and the promotion of diversity
social and societal objectives and provides guidelines for management and reporting
It takes into account the interests of the canton
which holds a majority stake of 51 percent in the Kantonalbank
It is emphasized that SGKB is well-positioned overall
assumes its economic responsibility in its home market
Its strategy takes into account the interests of the canton
the scope of its business activities is therefore still appropriately defined
The definition of target markets will not be changed
SGKB will continue to operate «mainly in its home market» (cantons of St

Foreign commitments are to be limited to low-risk business activities
and the operation of an investment banking business is excluded
The current ownership strategy was issued by the government in 2016
Its content was reaffirmed at the end of 2019 and has now been supplemented in certain areas
The government is thus reiterating the fundamental importance of the bank as part of the canton's shareholdings
Pietro Terracciano—6: Was fine with the ball at his feet and made a couple of routine saves
as one was deflected and the other a judgement from the heavens
Michael Kayode—7: Made the tremendous goal line clearance in the first half that almost feels routine for him at this point and defended quite well generally
Offered enthusiasm and pace going forward but very little guile; how well he can add that to his game will determine his eventual ceiling
Lucas Martínez Quarta—6.5: Had a very LMQ game, what with the boneheaded giveaway that directly led to St Gallen’s opener and a couple other hiccups at the back as well, then canceled that out with Fiorentina’s first goal
Matías Moreno—5: Had a rough first half and got hooked at the break
I thought that LMQ was the weaker of the centerbacks through the first period
Cristiano Biraghi—6.5: Created 3 excellent opportunities
one of which was converted by LMQ off a corner
Also managed to convince the idiot fans to stop throwing flares onto the pitch
Yacine Adli—4: Not sure if he was tired or what
notable only when he dithered on the ball and got robbed a few times
Amir Richardson—6: Struggled to get hold of things in the first half
largely because Adli was missing in action
Improved after the break and helped Fiorentina control things once Cataldi entered
although his passing was a bit scattershot by his standards
Riccardo Sottil—7.5: Best showing since last season for Ricky
Constantly accelerated past defenders and created all of Fiorentina’s good moments in the first half and a bunch in the second
Unlucky not to score himself and deserved an assist
It was his off-ball foul that led to the free kick for Lukas Görtler’s equalizer and he took the worst shot you’ll see this year but
Edoardo Bove—7: His assist for Ikoné’s first was lovely but Bove just isn’t a trequartista
Using him as such could work against better opponents if Raffaele Palladino wants a pressing demon in that spot but Bove
Earned a good grade on effort (and that assist) alone but needs to play deeper against weaker opposition
had the most on-brand performance imaginable
Messed up everything in the first half with bad passes
then demonstrated icy composure for both his goals
Christian Kouamé—5: Assisted Ikoné to rescue his day but it was a rocky outing for Chris
His imprecision with the ball was at its worst
He works really hard but when he’s off the pace like he was in this one
all the hard work in the world means nothing
Pietro Comuzzo—6: Steadied the ship at halftime without ever being tested too much
Lucas Beltrán—5.5: Produced a typically bustling performance but didn’t impact the game aside his role in Ikoné’s second
when the advantage the Viola gained after he got tied up in a 50/50 challenge let Sottil surge into the box
Also misfired on a gilt-edged chance that Sottil served him
shutting down the middle of the park and keeping the ball moving in typically unfussy fashion
Did talk himself into a stupid yellow card but was excellent otherwise
Robin Gosens—6.5: I assumed he came on late to help cope with the inevitable aerial bombardment Fiorentina would face
but instead he turned home a rebound to score
That kind of experience is exactly what Palladino would’ve wanted
Fabiano Parisi—6.5: Only played a couple minutes but looked very lively driving into space
it’s worth remembering that most teams won’t be throwing numbers forward like St Gallen was and that Fabi won’t get as much room to wiggle around in
3 of Fiorentina’s 12 games this year have featured 6 combined goals
the club hit that number 4 times in 58 games last year
we’ve seen some duds—scoreless draws against Venezia and Empoli—but this group is designed to both score goals and concede them
but the fact that 25% of Viola outings so far under Palladino have resulted in at least 6 combined goals is astounding
Pietro Comuzzo is the best centerback in the team
We’ve been chewing on this one for the past couple weeks but it’s time to swallow it
The 19-year-old has taken advantage of injuries to and mistakes from the guys above him on the depth chart to cement his place as the best option at the back
It’s an astonishing trajectory for a player who had generally been rated a fair prospect rather than a future star
but Comuzzo’s pushed past that ceiling as easily as he’s pushed past his competition for a spot in the back line
He had another on international duty over the break
But I cannot fully describe my surprise that
Palladino turns to Pietro Comuzzo to sort it out rather than Luca Ranieri
and Christian Kouamé are perhaps the 3 most-criticized guys on the roster
While the bile spat their way is often hyperbolic
While they’re all genuinely talented players in their own ways
they aren’t able to consistently harness their abilities for good
They’d be starting in Florence or elsewhere
A team of this size can’t afford to have 3 superstars at every position
misshapen dudes and graft them into a Doctor Moreau-ass attack
It usually doesn’t work and we get irritated at Sottil for robotically cutting inside and recycling possession to a centerback
or Kouamé somehow missing his 17th consecutive 5-yard pass
or Jorko pulling his sink stopper out and getting sucked into an alternate dimension
blazing past hopeless fullbacks and wreaking havoc all over the box
Kouamé’s baby giraffe legs congeal into the elegant violence of an orca and he’s the guy Côte d’Ivoire trusts in an AFCON penalty shootout
Ikoné rolls a natural 20 and whatever fickle deity he’s sworn himself to turns him into an invincible lich king
It’s really cool when the good stuff happens
but it’s cool precisely because it’s rare and unpredictable
This backup tridente is a toss of the dice and that’s fine
Occasionally they’ll go full Three Stooges and enact comedic assaults on each other and us
More often they’ll get a few things right and a few more things wrong
And occasionally they’ll achieve apotheosis

Gallen in the Conference League and gives clues as to his choices in attack
Gallen on Thursday at 17.45 UK time (16.45 GMT)
The Viola reached the Conference League Final for the last two seasons in a row and started the current campaign with a 2-0 victory over Welsh side The New Saints.
That was a less convincing performance than expected
but it is also true that they took a while to get used to Palladino’s tactics and seem to have turned a corner with recent results
“My lads do not know the meaning of the word ‘underestimate’ in Europe,” assured the coach in his press conference in Switzerland.
“I am sure those who will play tomorrow know they must give 100 per cent and St
Gallen will cause us problems in front of their home fans
It will be a battle and I am sure we’ll have the right attitude.”

EPA-EFE/ABBONDANZA SCURO LEZZIFiorentina are fresh from sweeping Lecce aside 6-0 in Serie A and the squad rotation seems inevitable
Some of that will be limited, because Albert Gudmundsson is ruled out for four to six weeks by a Grade I/II lesion to the myotendinous junction in the femoral bicep of the right thigh.
but is expected to only be on the bench after turning his ankle during that Lecce game
“We have many players who can be used in place of Gudmundsson
We have the characteristics to create issues for our opponents.”
Palladino was asked what has changed at the Viola most recently after their sudden upturn in results and performances
My strength is that I am focused entirely on my work
I’ve been in football for over 20 years as a player and coach
people go too quickly between euphoria and negativity
“I always knew it was just a matter of time
It wasn’t an issue of having a three or four-man defence
it’s just getting to know each other better.”
Swiss football enjoyed an extraordinary summer
beating Italy 2-0 to knock them out of the EURO 2024 Round of 16
“We remember the Euros well,” confessed Palladino
as I used to visit a lot to see a Swiss former teammate of mine
but we’ll do our best to bring the win home.”

has implemented a ban on sales of meat and dairy with higher levels of PFAS than the maximum permitted limit
after finding excessive amounts in these products from five farms
PFAS (or per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances) are a group of 15,000 ‘forever chemicals’ – named so as they don’t naturally break down and are proven to accumulate in our bodies – that are used to make water-
These chemicals are linked to serious health issues
the federal government in February set limits on maximum PFAS levels in certain food products
the canton of St Gallen has found dangerously high amounts of PFAS in animal products from the northeast part of the canton
it has introduced a ban on products from these areas
high levels of PFAS contamination on farmland and water were discovered three years ago
the St Galle government found that the contamination expanded to other areas too
The canton found “elevated or excessive” levels of PFOS – a harmful PFAS chemical – in meat and milk from some cows and cattle grazing in farms with contaminated areas
The local government suggests that the cause could be the use of sewage sludge from PFAS-contaminated wastewater treatment plants
which was allowed to be spread on agricultural land as fertiliser until 2006
According to federal regulations, the maximum amount of PFOS allowed in groundwater is 0.3 micrograms per kg
But tests of meat samples from the five farms showed levels between two and 12 micrograms per kg – up to 40 times higher than the legal threshold
St Gallen says the affected farms and companies can only sell their meat and milk for human consumption once the PFAS levels in the animals are reduced to the maximum permitted limit
It will ensure compliance via on-site inspections and laboratory analyses
The canton also adds that companies aren’t allowed to shift and remove soil or excavated material from the contaminated land without permission
St Gallen is offering bridging loans to farms
it recommends these farms grow food and feed the animals from the municipality’s drinking water
They should also be grazed on uncontaminated land if possible
The canton is now in contact with Agroscope
since farms across Switzerland will likely be affected by some form of PFAS contamination
it is calling on the national government to implement a national action plan to tackle the country’s growing PFAS problem
While there are maximum limits for certain foods
there’s no such threshold for meat and dairy products
St Gallen’s response to PFAS contamination comes amid reduced animal consumption in Switzerland, with 58% of its citizens consciously avoiding meat, dairy and eggs several times a month, as per a 2,221-person survey in January
The trend is driven by the so-called ‘substitarians’ – omnivores who eat plant-based meat
seafood and dairy – who make up 56% of the population
While climate change is the key driver, health is third-highest on the list of motivations. For over-45s, though, the latter is the main reason for eating more plant-based meat and dairy analogues. Diet is a major source of PFAS, and research has found that vegans may have lower levels of these chemicals than omnivores

the removal of the art installation "Fly Erika" is up for debate
The fly has many supporters who want it to stay
At the University of St. Gallen, the artwork "Fly Erika" - a dead housefly - is causing discussion. The reason: it is possibly to be removed, as theTages-Anzeigerreports
Students and professors are campaigning with a petition for the preservation of the insect
The story behind Erika begins with the German entrepreneur Hans-Dietrich Reckhaus
In search of an advertising idea for a fly trap
he turned to the artists Frank and Patrik Riklin from St
They convinced him to save flies instead of killing them
only 25 percent of Reckhaus' products contain poison
and they are labeled as killing valuable insects
His business model promotes insect-friendly habitats and has made him a pioneer in the industry
Artists accompanied Reckhaus' transformation with an art campaign that began in 2012 with the rescue of 902 houseflies
who was later pampered in a wellness hotel
These actions were documented and led to Erika's inclusion in the HSG's art collection in 2015
where she rests in a glass sarcophagus between works by Joan Miró and Gerhard Richter
The fly is a symbol that art can influence a company's business plan
Galler Tagblatt" reported at the time
But now that the ten-year loan period has expired
The entrepreneur would like to keep her at the HSG
The dispute over Erika has also mobilized the students
have collected various campus legends about Erika
such as the alleged encounter with Barack Obama
show the students' creative support for the fly
The petition to save Erika has been signed by almost 1,000 people
This shows how important the bow tie is to the student body
A meeting between the art commission and the donor is to take place on Friday
Gallen is currently not commenting on the issue
as the meeting of the Art Commission must be awaited
All arguments are to be discussed there before a decision is made
The artists emphasize the importance of Erika as a link between art and business
embodying ethical thinking and action in an economic context
The HSG is therefore the ideal place for the fly

Fiorentina fought back for a fiery 4-2 victory away to St Gallen including a Jonathan Ikone brace to maintain their perfect Conference League start
The Viola were finding their feet with three consecutive victories, including 2-0 against The New Saints to open their European account, but Albert Gudmundsson, Marin Pongracic and Rolando Mandragora were injured, with Moise Kean only fit for the bench
The Swiss side lost their first game 6-2 away to Cercle Bruges
See how it unfolded on the Liveblog.
Felix Mambimbi’s header was off target from a promising position, but play was suspended for several minutes when fans behind Pietro Terracciano’s goal repeatedly threw fireworks onto the pitch.
Christian Kouame should’ve done better when shinning a cross over the bar from 12 yards and then wandered offside so when he did get the ball in the net, it did not count from Yacine Adli’s assist.
Moments later, it was St Gallen who took the lead when Adli was caught napping sluggishly playing out from the back, a wayward pass intercepted by Jordi Quintillà to set up Mambimbi’s deflected finish.
Mambimbi almost got a second when he surged forward and unleashed a scorcher that Terracciano flew to palm away.
Fiorentina had several big chances in quick succession, as Lawrence Ati-Zigi pushed a Riccardo Sottil strike round the base of the post, then on the resulting corner fumbled a Lucas Martinez Quarta header. He also beat away the Amir Richardson snapshot from distance.
epa11680479 Supporters of ACF Fiorentina light flares during the UEFA Europa Conference League soccer match between Switzerland’s FC St. Gallen and Italy’s ACF Fiorentina in St. Gallen, Switzerland, 24 October 2024. EPA-EFE/GIAN EHRENZELLERStraight after the restart, Ati-Zigi made a desperate save using his trailing foot when the Sottil curler from the edge of the area took a massive deflection.
It was turning into a siege, and after another unorthodox save on Sottil, Fiorentina equalised with the Martinez Quarta header from Cristiano Biraghi’s corner.
Incredibly, they turned it around within four minutes, as an inspired Edoardo Bove pass allowed Jonathan Ikone to spring the offside trap and beat the goalkeeper one-on-one from a tricky angle.
It remained wide open and St Gallen got back on level terms with a sensational looping header that Lukas Gortler steered over Terracciano into the far top corner on the Vandermersch cross.
Fiorentina broke on the counter following a heavy collision in midfield and the referee gave the advantage, as Sottil and then Kouame moved it left to right for Ikone to sweep home at the back post.
The constant interruptions due to fireworks thrown from the fans – mainly the Fiorentina supporters – saw a huge amount of added time.
Just four minutes into that, Kouame’s effort thumped the base of the upright and Robin Gosens was ready to turn in the rebound.
There was nearly a fifth moments later, a low one-handed save on Fabiano Parisi and Ikone firing the potential hat-trick over from a tricky angle.
Mambimbi 23 (SG), Martinez Quarta 50 (F), Ikone 54, 69 (F), Gortler 62 (SG), Gosens 94 (F)
