Walker Funeral Home by Mountain Media At the intersection of photography, performance, and personal history, Vienna-based artist Sophie Thun constructs a world where the darkroom becomes more than just a technical space—it becomes a site of intimacy, alchemy, and confrontation. Her latest exhibition, Wet Rooms, now on view at the Musée Cantonal des Beaux-Arts in Lausanne, Switzerland through August 10 offers a deeply layered experience that fuses analog craft with bold acts of self-insertion and disruption Thun’s work has always occupied a space between control and surrender she brings that dynamic into striking focus inviting viewers into an immersive environment crafted from collages of photograms and large-format prints Through meticulous layering and repetition Thun turns the gallery itself into a living darkroom the darkroom is not merely where photographs are developed—it is a sanctuary Wet Rooms transforms the gallery into a tactile experience of this sacred space awash in soft red hues and evocative rippling chemical textures It’s an environment that feels both intimate and expansive full of the quiet drama that only analog photography can conjure The installation is not designed for passive viewing. Instead, it demands physical and emotional engagement. Moving through the gallery, visitors encounter monumental photograms—camera-less images created by placing objects directly onto photographic paper and exposing them to light—and printed collages that seem to stretch and warp the space itself. It’s a vivid, breathing tribute to a vanishing art form but also a declaration of its continued relevance Central to Wet Rooms is Thun’s use of her own body as both creator and subject Rather than using traditional self-portraiture to capture her image she embeds herself into the very surfaces of the photographs and repositioned across the collaged walls and installations—sometimes easy to spot hidden within the folds and textures of her prints This approach draws from the tradition of mise-en-abyme—the image within the image—a technique often used by women artists as a means of self-exploration and resistance By fracturing and rearranging her own form Thun resists the typical narratives imposed upon the female body in art history Thun positions herself as both omnipresent and elusive—a creator who refuses to be pinned down or neatly interpreted her work represents a simultaneous assertion and vanishing act embodying the tension between visibility and erasure that defines so much of the contemporary female experience One of the most compelling elements of Wet Rooms is Thun’s playful engagement with scale and illusion Through careful composition and installation she creates trompe-l’œil effects that challenge the viewer’s perception of space Floors appear to extend beyond their physical limits; walls seem to ripple with liquid textures; images fold back onto themselves in recursive loops This manipulation of space is not just aesthetic—it’s political By bending and reconfiguring the gallery’s architecture Thun questions the traditional structures that govern how art is made She forces the viewer to reconsider their position in relation to the work collapsing the distance between observer and participant It’s an approach that also speaks to broader themes of ownership and agency In claiming the gallery space as an extension of the darkroom—a historically male-dominated space—Thun asserts her right to occupy In an era dominated by digital photography and the instant gratification of smartphone images Thun’s commitment to analog techniques feels almost revolutionary deliberate processes that define traditional photography: the careful manipulation of light it reimagines analog photography as a living evolving practice—one capable of tackling urgent contemporary themes around identity and surprises inherent to the darkroom process Thun challenges the sanitized perfection of the digital age Her work reminds us that art—and life itself—is shaped as much by accident and experimentation as by intention Sophie Thun’s Wet Rooms is more than an exhibition; it is an experience—one that invites viewers to immerse themselves fully in the tactile and philosophical possibilities of analog art-making It’s a show that honors photography’s past while carving out bold new territories for its future and it does so with a fierce intelligence and unflinching vulnerability that are distinctly Thun’s own Wet Rooms offers a powerful meditation on visibility For those lucky enough to visit Lausanne before August 10 it promises an unforgettable encounter with an artist at the peak of her creative exploration Input your search keywords and press Enter BerksPenn State Berks mourns loss of David Thun, campus friend and benefactorPenn State Berks mourns the loss of David L. WYOMISSING, Pa. — Penn State Berks mourns the loss of David L. Thun, a close friend and champion of the college, who passed away on Oct. 31 at the age of 87.  David Thun was the grandson of Ferdinand Thun, co-founder of the Wyomissing Industries, and Wyomissing Polytechnic Institute (WPI), the predecessor institution of Penn State Berks.  In an interview for the college’s 50th anniversary history book in 2008, David Thun explained how the founders of WPI, Ferdinand Thun and Henry Janssen, reached the decision to approach Penn State about taking over operations of Wyomissing Polytechnic Institute.   “The institute had gotten to the point that it was really difficult for the industries to maintain it as an independent institution," Thun said. "So, [they] thought about what might be a good alternative, and the concept was that maybe [they] could get Penn State interested in establishing a campus in Berks County, and have them pick up the academic training and teaching, but continue to offer the technical courses that were needed.” The Wyomissing Center of The Pennsylvania State University, as the new school was officially named, opened in the fall of 1958, just months after the closing of WPI, ensuring that there was no break in educational continuity. The college’s Thun Library is named in honor of the family and the important part they played in the history of the Berks campus. Thun served on the Penn State Berks Advisory Board, and he was an avid supporter of students, and in particular, the college’s engineering programs. Thun earned a bachelor’s degree from Williams College in Williamstown, Massachusetts. He also attended and received a diploma in business administration from the London School of Economics. He went on to serve his country honorably as an officer in the United States Coast Guard.  Following the legacy of his grandfather, Thun returned to Berks County in 1988 and purchased Magnatech International, a textile manufacturing company specializing in braiding machines. The company had grown into an industry leader in braiding technology since its founding in 1892 as the initial component of the Wyomissing Industries. Later in life, he went on to work as an independent management consulting professional. Throughout his life, Thun made a significant impact on the community. He served on countless advisory committees and boards, including the Schuylkill River Greenways, the Reading Hospital, the Reading Public Museum, and the Berks County Community Foundation, just to name a few. After a five-year absence, FC Thun is back in the Swiss Super League! Their triumphant 2-1 victory over FC Aarau on Friday, May 2nd, 2025, sealed their promotion in a thrilling match before a packed Stockhorn Arena (10,000 spectators). The match was a rollercoaster. Layton Stewart gave Thun an early lead, only for Sofian Bahloul to equalize a minute later. Then, with ten minutes left, 19-year-old substitute Franz-Ethan Meichtry scored a stunning goal, securing the win and sending the Thun faithful into ecstasy. This victory ended Aarau’s 19-game unbeaten run, although they still have a chance to reach the Super League via the relegation/promotion playoffs. This promotion isn't just about one game; it's the culmination of years of hard work and perseverance. Thun previously suffered setbacks in promotion playoff matches against Sion (2021) and Grasshoppers (2024), making this direct promotion all the sweeter. Coach Mauro Lustrinelli, a key architect of this success, has praised his team's solidarity, organization, and mentality—qualities that defined their season. President Andres Gerber spoke about the challenges ahead, emphasizing the need for smart transfers and squad planning to ensure Thun avoids becoming a yo-yo club. While the club celebrates this hard-earned victory, the focus now shifts to preparing for the rigors of the Super League. The increased media attention, higher TV money, and tougher competition will test Thun's resilience, but with the current momentum and team spirit, the future looks bright. marketing and creative strategist Exploring the world of design is immensely linked to my work as I’m guided by curiosity and open-mindedness Johan Karrebæk Thun Just like the first cry out of the womb is all about hunger and transition a designer’s first steps reveal the intricacies that make up their artistic posture in perhaps the most raw ways That first creation simultaneously stems from courage and marks ripe clarity Johan Karrebæk Thun’s debut design concept demonstrates his astute ability to decipher both a material’s emotional and tangible skeleton the outstandingly modular and functional joints-based minimalist interior piece illustrates innovative ways of using wood as a mono-material there is no way to trace when exactly Thun’s mood board for Tension Connection began slowly but surely shaping itself Being raised outside of Copenhagen close to a forest park triggered his “appreciation for the balance between natural and built environments.” Thun feels growing up in such an open-hearted environment helped him “become more aware of my physical surroundings which naturally led me into the world of design Moving between small-scale details and broader industrial and geographical contexts formed the foundation and inspiration for my work in design.”  the Design Academy Eindhoven graduate found himself falling down a rabbit hole of contemporary wood design and architecture Then inspiration struck–“I remember visiting an 825-year-old Stave Church in Norway It was built without screws or glue which sparked my fascination with traditional joinery This curiosity led me to explore Japanese wood joints ingenious techniques that achieve strength and precision solely through interlocking forms.”  Utilizing and understanding wood joineries can be traced back to Egyptian artisans in 3000 BC Captivated by the elegance and straightforwardness of joints and the tension already very much present in wood Thun combines ancient woodworking techniques and Japanese wood joints with new technology in this way crafting a brand-new wood joint language.  Thun unlocked the potential of working with precise gaps in wood The approach not only defined a distinct shape language but also established a functional wood connection–“In of itself it feels light whereas the tension in the wooden beams gives it this dynamic and energetic presence relying solely on tension and gravity as structural forces.” Tension Connection is Thun’s love letter to the many enticing layers wood encapsulates as a material–its natural flexibility especially the connection points house the tension of the construction and as the designer enchantingly describes the gap in the beam opens up like a flower and suddenly the stringent squared wood profile transforms into a more organic shape I find it beautiful that the material is expressing its natural properties in the connection points.” Exempt from fasteners and external adhesives Tension Connection is a system that allows for easy assembly and transportation: “Everything can be done with your bare hands by simply interlocking the stick and the beam and placing the shelf planks on top using gravity to secure them.” When it comes to its modularity one can create endless bespoke compositions of varying scales Flatpack transportation further optimizes the concept’s shipping efficiency Tension Connection also stands out as a highly adaptable piece that can enliven spaces and environments of varying kinds–one that can be drenched in objects of affection Thun believes that through mono-materiality “you can both better connect and understand the objects you surround yourself with you are not distancing yourself away from nature but instead connecting with it in meaningful ways through physical constructs.” Identifying himself as a generalist, Thun is enthusiastic about continuing to research and piece together daring material formulas the young designer is on the cusp of court ruling casting a harsh light on practices including bloated network bundles and forced minimum penetration Rob Thun touts a plan for a 'brighter TV future' Just two business days after a federal judge slapped a shocking preliminary injunction on the Venu Sports joint venture questioning the basic ethics of traditional pay TV program licensing practices in the process has proposed some new rules for how deals are structured.  In a memo sent to Next TV and other media outlets headlined "Looking Toward a Brighter TV Future," Thun proposed that content owners create more flexible "genre-based" packages -- such as bundles themed around sports and news -- that better appeal to consumers.  He suggested that the major media conglomerates work with operators to create options for consumers with price points closer to direct-to-consumer streaming options.  Thun also asked content companies to help DirecTV create "aggregated experiences" for consumers combining live-linear and on-demand programming rather than "numerous disjointed entry points while managing multiple individual subscriptions to those products." this isn't the first time that Thun -- or other program executives for rival pay TV companies -- has proposed this kind of stuff thanks to the massive miscalculation that is Venu Sports With DirecTV's deal with Disney up in September and negotiations with the other Venu principals striking while three of the biggest program network suppliers are on their heels.  Fox and WBD set themselves back mightily with Venu a service that packaged the major linear sports channels from each conglomerate but seemed not have intended to play by any of the rules long governing the principals' struggling pay TV partners.  The smarter way to stay on top of the streaming and OTT industry didn't require their JV to bundle minor entertainment channels Or force minimum penetration levels of channels down its throat.  virtual pay TV operator Fubo took the trio to court over antitrust concerns right after it was announced in February -- a move backed by DirecTV As executives for the trio of media companies were gradually deposed more and more issues arose that concerned the court.  "They got caught with their hands in the cookie jar in a big way," Thun told Next TV and it didn't really create a good picture for the venue partners." in granting Fubo a preliminary injunction against the JV on Friday District Court Judge Margaret Garnett suggested that the way media companies like Disney Fox and WBD bundle their channels is "bad for consumers."  Thun said the internal disclosures in court of how Venu intended to do business "left a bad taste" his mouth.  he said he's been pleased to see that Disney Fox and WBD see an opportunity in a new kind of pay TV business that offers consumers far more choice.  "The one thing we agree in is there is an ocean of opportunity," he said,  The Bernese Oberland side win the top-of-the-table clash against FC Aarau 2:1 with Ethan Meichtry scoring a dream goal in the closing stages to secure promotion After unsuccessful attempts in the barrage - against Sion in 2021 and Grasshoppers last year - Thun have now managed to go straight through Mauro Lustrinelli's team have an eleven-point lead over chasing Aarau The decisive goal was scored by 19-year-old Franz-Ethan Meichtry ten minutes before the end just four minutes after coming on as a substitute The Thun striker scored in the top right-hand corner after Aarau had missed three good opportunities to take the lead immediately beforehand The closest they came to scoring was Sofian Bahloul who hit the crossbar two minutes before Thun's goal In an intense game in front of 10,000 spectators Layton Stewart put the Bernese Oberland side ahead in the 5th minute Sofian Bahloul countered Thun's lead just one minute later He gave Niklas Steffen no chance to defend with a beautiful shot It was the first goal the Thun goalkeeper had conceded in his fifth match since returning to goal He was not to be beaten again that evening coach Brunello Iacopetta's team still has a chance of advancing via the barrage As Etoile Carouge also lost 2-1 to Stade Lausanne-Ouchy they remain six points ahead of the Geneva side Stade Nyonnais celebrated an important victory in the battle to avoid relegation The western Swiss side beat Vaduz 1-0 thanks to an 11th-minute goal from Seydou Traoré The second win in a row puts them seven points clear of bottom club Schaffhausen with Hakan Yakin's team able to catch up at Will on Sunday FC Thun need a win on locks which connect the Swedish interior lakes with the North Sea near Goteborg According to the shipowner, Lidan, and the remaining five vessels in the Lake Vanern Max series, will run on a hybrid propulsion system using both battery power and traditional fuel to optimize energy use and reduce emissions With a large diameter propeller operating within a nozzle the propulsion system delivers increased thrust at lower speeds reducing power demand during challenging seaways and icebreaking operations This design allows the operators to reduce the installed main engine power by 18% without compromising performance resulting in decrease in fuel usage and carbon emissions the vessels come with a shore connection capability for silent and emission-free operations while docked improving air quality and reducing noise pollution “We are making a substantial investment to support our customers’ transportation needs and thereby strengthening our position even further on the short-sea market In Wet Rooms, her latest exhibition at Musée Cantonal des Beaux-Arts, the artist immerses viewers in this personal and alchemical space, bringing her rich analog practice into focus, and with it, a romance of soft red hues and rippling chemical baths. Toying with ideas of scale and trompe-lœil, Thun sheathes the gallery in collages of photograms and large-format prints, where she overlays her own image onto the spaces she’s inhabited – homes, studios, and galleries. Through this approach, she joins a lineage of women exploring mise-en-abyme – the image within the image – as a strategy of self-reflection and resistance. His story is here but luckily the background conference noise could be expunged from the podcast with some editing wizardry You have reached the limit for gifting for this month the second plug-in hybrid dry cargo vessel in the next-generation Lake Vanern Max series has been delivered to Swedish shipping company Erik Thun The newbuild was delivered to Erik Thun on December 9 and set sail to Germany for its first loading Spiken is the second of six vessels ordered in the Lake Vanern Max series from Ferus Smit shipyard in the Netherlands The vessels will run on a hybrid propulsion system the design focuses on maximizing cargo capacity enabling the shipowner to handle more cargo within restricted waterways like Lake Vanern The optimized bow design also allows the vessel to carry significantly more cargo with lower energy consumption The newbuilds also come with a shore connection capability for silent and emission-free operations while docked The first vessel, Lidan This is what coach Mauro Lustrinelli and president Andres Gerber have to say about the successful promotion "Enjoy," were the first words of promotion coach Mauro Lustrinelli The man from Ticino took over as coach of the Bernese Oberland club in the summer of 2022 and three seasons later he is leading the FCT back to the top flight after five years in the Challenge League "I always believed in promotion," emphasizes Lustrinelli The team has been in the flow over the past month A fact that Lustrinelli has played through in his head "a thousand times" "I'm incredibly happy and proud inside as Lustrinelli has been associated with FC Thun for years The 49-year-old has only ever experienced promotion as a player (2002 with FC Wil "I've already won two promotions as a player the fact that 19-year-old home-grown talent Ethan Meichtry scored the decisive goal is the "cherry on the cake" Thun's philosophy is supported by President Andres Gerber Now we're in the Super League and it's like a dream Gerber speaks of a well-deserved promotion and praises the club for its perseverance over the years "We've been in the Challenge League for five years now If we had been told five years ago that it would take five years (to get promoted again I don't know if we would have persevered." But the team from Thun persevered and are back in the top flight the FCT set promotion as their goal for the season But he says: "It was good that we were brave FC Thun can make a perfect return to the top flight after five years in the Challenge League President Andres Gerber comments on various challenges Ahead of the game against Aarau (live on blue Sport from 8pm) president Andres Gerber talks to the Keystone-SDA news agency about the dangers he still sees for FC Thun despite their comfortable starting position explains the role of investor Beat Fahrni and what promotion would change at the club - and the 52-year-old says what it will take for Thun not to become a lift team Because the Belper does not want to experience relegation again that the program is only of secondary importance and that we can simply enjoy ourselves with enormous satisfaction FC Thun can clinch promotion to the Super League with a home win against Aarau Thun missed out on promotion twice in 2021 against Sion and last season against Grasshoppers via the barrage you're eight points clear in first place That's a much more comfortable situation I don't want to be pessimistic at all There have always been crazy stories in football that would probably dampen the mood a little It's important that we just do our job The fact that Aarau have now not lost 19 times in a row is also a fact So it's not exactly a matter of course to beat them But let's not think too much about it Even if there's a lot of euphoria around you The people around you are a little impatient Everyone would like it to be Friday evening and we would have made it But this anticipation and this tingling sensation is something nice It's like waiting for an exam result or the birth of a child Thun lost 3-0 at Lausanne-Ouchy and Aarau took over the top spot Aarau seemed unstoppable for a long time and played almost like Leverkusen last year in the Bundesliga when they turned many games around late on But it also shows that it's not that easy to be first and then pull it off We're not first because we put on a huge spectacle No player has scored more than seven goals but I'm happy because it reflects what's important to us as a philosophy and what coach Mauro Lustrinelli demands so strongly That was certainly also important last season when Thun set a club record with 76 points but in the end it wasn't enough against Sion The experience you gain in a year is incredibly valuable for everyone at the club But after five years in the Challenge League it would probably be a huge challenge to get our attitude back and attack once more But I don't even want to think about that we gained a lot of experience in the Super League There are different opponents on the pitch There are more fans and there's also more media interest The players are more valuable when they play in the Super League but the work that the spectators see remains exactly the same FC Thun has always had money worries in the past Would promotion automatically put the club on a healthier footing But it's also about the feeling of being part of the Super League again You're automatically perceived differently as a club But it's not as if we simply have five million more income security - and the team will inevitably be more expensive But the players also become more interesting because they are in a bigger shop window That is a very important factor for transfer revenue Coach Mauro Lustrinelli has extended his contract by three years After three years with him you can move up but I don't think anyone is naive enough to think that a fighting spirit and solidarity will keep us in the Super League The Super League has changed compared to the 10 seasons we played there There are a lot more investors in the clubs and it's become normal for clubs to spend several million on a transfer Basel and YB were the financial leaders and could spend the most on transfers GC and Yverdon are several clubs with powerful investors The only club that is comparable to us at the moment is Winterthur How do you ensure that FC Thun doesn't become an elevator team and get relegated straight away Which doesn't mean as many as possible the whole surrounding area is also important but if we assume that it will stay the same Will you be putting more pressure on investor Beat Fahrni's wallet in the Super League The aim is not to spend more and more of Beat Fahrni's money But of course it is enormously important to know that he is there and is committed to us we are still very consciously optimizing our entire structure and continue to spend the money very consciously Are you not putting FC Thun in a position of dependency Looking back on my five years as president I can say that getting Beat on board is one of the best things I've done But I'd rather have a cluster risk than the club no longer exist There are a lot of people who support FC Thun but Beat has of course already made a decisive contribution It is also his goal that the club is broadly supported and does not fold when it is no longer there What are you most looking forward to in the Super League I haven't even thought about that yet But the classic answer would be the derbies against YB and that's probably not entirely wrong When people come to the stadium and you see what the club does to people and you don't just hear everywhere that everyone thinks FC Thun is cool and likeable we see that our work is appreciated and makes sense that we can be role models by being who we are Did you experience your last relegation in 2020 I'll probably never forget it until the day I die The atmosphere after relegation was incredibly depressing Then the resignation of President Markus Lüthi and privately I had a death in the family a year later during the barrage this relegation is not just about emotions And I hope I never have to experience anything like that again these five years since then have been so formative What happens when the referee blows his whistle and FC Thun are actually promoted Maybe I'll just go home or go for a walk alone in the woods Of course we want to share the joy with everyone But we've been working towards this success for years That's why I want to share this moment with those closest to me first of all to cuddle Mauro and Domi (Head of Sport Dominik Albrecht) So when the fans storm the pitch and lift you into the air You want to share it with those closest to you We suffered a lot for years and had to put up with a lot of criticism this moment belongs only to you and your closest companions then we can always break out the champagne If you're a country music fan and you love some outdoor fun Von Thun’s Country Farm Market in South Brunswick, NJ, has partnered with country It was much of the same in round two as Fury continued to be the aggressor - but the man nicknamed "Hurricane" stood strong and began to land his combinations. The third round saw Hughie land two good uppercuts and a strong right hand as Thun continued to absorb the punches well. Fury then took control and began to turn it on in the fourth as the constant body shorts seemed to finally take their toll as the 6ft 8in giant winced. In the fifth of the eight round bout, Thun fought back but drew a response from the Brit with more strong body shots. A big one-two from him pushed Thun onto the ropes in the sixth round, only for him to survive another onslaught. Fury then smelt blood and tried to go for the knockout in the seventh - but despite his knees buckling, Thun continued to survive.
