The Swiss shoe retailer Voegele Shoes has averted the threat of bankruptcy for the time being
The See-Gaster district court granted the Uznach-based company its application for a debt moratorium
The crisis-stricken company now has another four months to implement the restructuring measures and save the company
The procedure is similar to a protective shield procedure in Germany
“From the perspective of the administrator and the court
there is a prospect that Karl Vogele AG can be restructured and reach an agreement with its creditors regarding the debt burden,” said Chairman of the Board of Directors Christian Müller
This would mean that the traditional Vogele Shoes brand would be preserved and the creditors would receive more than if bankruptcy were declared immediately
Since applying for a provisional moratorium in June
there are currently 28 branches in the company's portfolio
the management wants to put Vogele Shoes “on an entrepreneurial and economically sustainable basis again
Müller said we are currently well on the way to further stabilizing sales
the existing branches should move forward again with an attractive range and the right marketing
How many branches are left by then depends on developments and ongoing discussions with landlords and “could still change in certain areas,” said Müller
but rather to consolidate the company - “and in the medium term even to selectively build it up
For this we need the necessary time as part of the official probate process that the state provides us.”
Voegele Shoes was sold to the Polish CCC Group
The group also owned the shoe chains Bingo Shoe-Discount and Max Shoes
CCC acquired 2 percent of the company through its subsidiary NG8,5 Suisse GmbH for around 70 million euros
But CCC was not happy with the Swiss company and sold it last year to CM.Shoes GmbH
which has owned 100 percent of the shares since then
the remaining 116 shoe shops were to be financially stabilized and as many jobs as possible retained
CM.Shoes wanted to lead the group “into an even stronger digital future,” it said
Vögele Shoes was already struggling with falling sales before the Corona crisis
it experienced an additional setback due to the corona pandemic and the associated lockdown closures
The CM Shoes subsidiary CM Sports GmbH recently took over the German shoe chain Reno
