The CineGlobe festival was founded in 2007 and celebrates cinema inspired by science
Its aim is to select the best new films and to bring film-makers together
CineGlobe is returning for its 12th edition
with four special events in Geneva and neighbouring France
the spotlight will be on science and society
“CineGlobe in Orbit” will consist of three satellite events organised in partnership with the towns of Grand-Saconnex
It kicks off with an event in Grand Saconnex on 26 August
Finally, the festival will come to a close by landing at CERN’s Science Gateway on 9 November for an event organised in collaboration with the artist collective Gruppe Laokoon and the Geneva International Film Festival (GIFF)
festivalgoers will be treated to a must-see experimental play called Mauvais Je(ux)
which will be performed as part of the official GIFF programme
This innovative production explores the technologies that influence our society and each and every one of us
using the digital data of a real but anonymous person
Talented actors will bring to life four unique versions of “je”
all based on the same data but seen from different perspectives
CineGlobe has launched two calls for the play:

Tāmaki Makaurau’s Babe Martin (Zoë Larsen-Cumming) finally debuts The Versoix EP via Sunreturn, a three-track treasure of expertly curated songs grounded in lyrical sincerity and piano. Produced by Jazmine Mary, recent singles ‘Knocked For Six In BHX’ and its title track have found unsurprising student radio success
Completing the extended player is third and final single ‘Far From You’
a glittering ebb of deeply romantic storytelling that focuses on the beholder of adoration who remains left behind
Again featuring Antonia Barnett McIntosh’s glimmering cello
the tune also encompasses Louisa Nicklin’s arpeggiating sax
Jazmine Mary’s guitar and the drumming expertise of Bianca Bailey (Wiri Donna)
Just as the significance of the lush Versoix forest became more material to Larsen-Cumming over time
the EP's three tracks burgeon with detail and emotion upon each listen
The “incredibly distinct seasons” of the Swiss woodland are felt in the careful lyrics that hold landscapes of weighted memories and earnest emotions that come with hindsight on life’s transitions
Babe Martin will soon be warming the stage alongside Ōtautahi's Model Home and Jiahu Symbols in just a couple of weeks at Auckland’s Thirsty Dog
Read the artist's reflections and hit play on The Versoix EP below…
but 'Far From You' rolls steadily away down the track
You’re on the train and you’re not getting off until the very end and Bianca Bailey (Wiri Donna) executed this perfectly
Then we’ve got some saxophone and cello (played by Louisa Nicklin and Antonia Barnett McIntosh) and the two instruments really play with each other
Jazmine Mary’s guitar arrangements were perfect and warm and yearning
and then of course the foundation of the song is piano

'The Versoix EP' is out today on major streaming platforms via Sunreturn

A cold spell has gripped Europe with temperatures plummeting far below zero.SARAJEVO
Bosnia-Herzegovina -- Bosnia's government declared a state of emergency in its capital on Saturday after Sarajevo was paralyzed by snow
while in Rome residents dug out from the city's biggest snowfall in 26 years
The weeklong cold snap -- the worst in decades in Eastern Europe -- has killed at least 176 people
unusually heavy snow capped the dome of St
Peter's Basilica and the Roman Forum's ancient arches
sending some crashing onto empty parked cars
Up to 8 inches had fallen in some neighborhoods
making buses and taxis scarce and stranding some motorists for hours
About 4,000 government-issued shovels were handed out in several main piazzas to Romans trying to clear their streets before a forecast nighttime freeze
Some neighborhoods reported water shortages
and residents struggled to make it to local shops to stock up on food
Several people said they witnessed fistfights in shops over loaves of bread
men shoveling the deep snow were being given tea
coffee and hamburgers and meatballs that local women had barbecued
One elderly man who didn't know how to help out stood at an open window of his house playing his clarinet
Schools have been closed in Bosnia for days because of the harsh winter weather
and many travelers have been trapped on the country's roads since Friday evening
I can't remember snow like this in the past 30 years," said Mirsada Mitrovic
efforts were under way to rescue hundreds of people trapped on snow-covered highways
vehicles carrying about 30 people were stuck in a tunnel south of Sarajevo and called local radio stations to appeal for help
saying they had children with them and were running out of fuel
But when snow plows arrived on the scene Saturday
a three-day snowstorm that has closed roads and the main airport in the capital
claimed its first victim: a 54-year-old man who died when an avalanche hit his car on a road near the town of Kolasin
Even top government officials were waylaid
who had attended a summit at a ski resort near Sarajevo on Friday
were unable to immediately leave the mountain after the meeting
Officials in Serbia said about 60,000 people throughout the country remain cut off by the snow
Seven people have died so far and one is missing
while 23 people have been rescued in the past 24 hours
said Serbian emergency police official Predrag Maric
authorities in a strip along the Adriatic coast declared emergency measures and urged the army's help in clearing a rare snowfall
Croatian authorities said three people have died in the freeze
Northern Italians continued to dig out from more than 6 feet of snow and shiver in frigid temperatures
The farm lobby Coldiretti said that 2 million cows and pigs were at risk because supplies of feed couldn't reach them and some frozen pipes for water troughs had burst.'''

The World Council of Churches and Implenia
joined a conservation initiative that planted hundreds of trees in Kenya and Switzerland.
Implenia is the developer of the Green Village real estate project – the first Geneva property development in line with the principles of "One Planet Living” and SEED district certification
A portion of the tree planting initiative occurred on 20 April in the forest in Versoix
A tree planting project was dually coordinated by Implenia
an environmental organization that acts against climate change
and raises awareness of the carbon emissions responsibility.
The project determined the number of trees to be planted
based on the eco-balance of the Montreal building in the Green Village
A total of 275 trees were planted in Geneva and 2,470 in Kenya
and The Almighty Tree received an overview of the local forest
including details about the value of trees in advancing biodiversity and forestry
as well as the trees’ role in cooling the climate.
The Almighty Tree helps organizations calculate their carbon footprint
Trees absorb CO2 and contribute to a climate balance.
The SEED district certification aim to reduce CO2 emissions and gradually abandon fossil fuels
with buildings powered by renewable energy
They also conserve and nurture biodiversity
the Green Village will offer working space for 3,000 employees

Numbers are climbing and they’re damaging the forests and eating crops.
It’s thought there are around 160 in the Versoix woods – but they’re part of a large group ranging from canton Jura to the Pays de Gex.
cantonal gamekeepers will shoot deer at night – so the forest can stay safe during the day.
The exact number to be killed hasn’t yet been determined
The culling will start on December 1st and go on until the end of January.
Florida Gulf Coast University has won hearts and wrecked office pools during its amazing run in the NCAA Tournament and
Florida Gulf Coast junior guard Christophe Varidel
prepped for a year at Worcester Academy and averaged 17.6 points during the 2009-10 season while also leading the Hilltoppers in 3-pointers
“He had a terrific year for us,” said the Hilltoppers' director of athletics
who was Varidel's coach at WA and ranks him among the best shooters he's ever coached
Varidel has played in all 36 games for the Eagles this season and averages 6.1 points off the bench
He scored 11 points in FGC's 81-71 win over San Diego State Sunday
“Christophe is what you see when you watch the games on television,” said Reilly
who has kept in contact with his former player
“He's an excitable young kid with great passion and enthusiasm for playing basketball
Obviously he has a great skill set — he can stretch you out and shoot the 3-ball
it's great to see the fun he and his teammates have had as they make this run.”
the first men's basketball coach in FGC history
who guided the Eagles into Division 1 five years ago
He started 20 games as a freshman and earned Atlantic Sun All-Rookie team honors
Varidel has been an important contributor off the bench under coach Andy Enfield
Enfield has brought in talent and an up-tempo offense and FGC has won 41 games — so far — since he took over
“They're coming together at the right time as so often happens with these Cinderella stories,” Reilly said
“I don't think anyone wants to play them now.”
The teams of two other Worcester Academy graduates — Michigan senior forward Blake McLimans and Syracuse walk-on junior guard Ross DeRemer — are still alive in the NCAA Tournament
“We have plenty to root for in the final 16 teams,” Reilly said
Jeff Croteau helped lead the Auburn High baseball team to the Division 2 state title in 2009
1 pitcher didn't carry over during his first two seasons in college
“My freshman and sophomore years I was very inconsistent,” the Bentley right-hander said
“I had some good outings and I had some poor outings
I was leaving too many balls down the middle of the plate
Croteau spent the last two summers pitching for the Geneva Red Wings of the New York Collegiate Baseball League
whose teams play a 40-game summer schedule
Croteau was named a league all-star in 2011
found his groove and brought it back to Bentley
but it ended up being one of the best experiences of my life.”
After winning just one game his first two years for the Falcons and posting an ERA above 5.00
Croteau went 5-3 with a 3.59 ERA last season and helped Bentley qualify for the Northeast-10 Conference tournament
Croteau has continued to improve and has started his senior season with some terrific outings
He won three of his first four decisions before dropping a heartbreaker Sunday
He allowed seven hits and one unearned run and struck out four in a 1-0 loss to Southern Connecticut
has worked with Croteau to improve his change-up as well as his mental approach to pitching
Croteau started and earned the win in Auburn's 2-1 victory over Plymouth North in the 2009 state championship
He was also the winning pitcher in the Central Mass
Tyler Beede was a sophomore on that Auburn team
“I was considered the top starter because of my experience,” Croteau said
transferred to Lawrence Academy and is now enjoying a sensational sophomore season at Vanderbilt
“I check up on him every week,” Croteau said
With a little bit of snow still on DeFelice Field
Bentley (7-12) has yet to play a home game this season
The Falcons were scheduled to host Assumption Tuesday
he is a tax volunteer at an office in Waltham
helping people file their returns by April 15
but I think I'll be set up after school to do well.”

Brought to you by InterSoccer
and your boss is not kind enough to let you take the entire summer off
then you might be wondering what to do with your kids
having energetic youngsters under your feet all day has the potential to drive you a bit crazy
Fortunately Switzerland offers plenty of options
especially while we are in the grip of Euro 2016 fever
In addition to their regular camps, InterSoccer is running the Tottenham Hotspur player development programme in Geneva. English Premier League Club Tottenham Hotspur
is sending two UEFA B Coaches to camps that run from Monday 11 July to Friday 15 July
These full day camps are open to girls and boys of all abilities from 5 to 15 years old
Camps start at 10 am and run until 5 pm with supervised drop off available from 8:30 am
All children doing two days or more will get a Tottenham Hotspur replica home shirt plus a medal
Director Steve Long stresses that “The camps are for girls and boys of all abilities
Our coaches are experienced and know how to keep kids happy and engaged.”
Getting your kids out on the lake is another healthy way to entertain them. In Montreux for example there are sailing, kayaking and waterskiing courses. Geneva and Zurich also offer sailing courses
Conservation groups such as Switzerland’s Pro Natura offer camps or weekend outings across Switzerland that get kids out among nature
In addition, some communes offer free or low cost activities. For example the commune of Vevey offers a range of activities known as passeport vacances
Commune websites are a good place to start looking for these
Things to consider when deciding are logistics: where are the camps
Can you drop your children off on your way to work and collect them on your way home
Involving your child in researching and choosing a camp can help ensure you select the right one
Find out what a typical day will be like and see if that fits with your routine
both you and your kids will know what to expect
For those in Geneva, a trip to see Geneva’s Jet d’eau up close could be an interesting way to cool down on a hot summer’s day
If you live near Bern and have older children who are strong swimmers you might consider a dip in the Aare river
And if you are tempted by soccer camps, dates, locations and prices of InterSoccer camps can be found here.

Unearthodox was founded in 2022 from the legacy of the Luc Hoffmann Institute
Unearthdox was created in 2023 as an independent entity
the Luc Hoffmann Institute to further its commitment to innovation for diverse
equitable societies that value nature and actively regenerate all life on Earth
The Luc Hoffmann Institute worked as a semi-autonomous entity within WWF International
focused on enabling collaboration between disciplines
analysing and resolving complex conservation challenges in order to make change possible
It eventually evolved into an incubator for social innovation in nature conservation
Unearthdox continues to forward the legacy of Dr Hoffmann
who believed science was the foundation for action but understood the broader reality of preserving life on Earth: that problem-solving needs to be coordinated and must consider different perspectives
and that sustainable development must encompass both nature and people
modesty and collaboration at all levels of society
and his innovative way of mixing disciplines to achieve results
are all ingrained in the ethos of Unearthodox
