More than 2400 people submitted scores for the tournament
Sixteen lucky archers were invited to compete at this showcase event in the north of Switzerland
Archers travelled from Estonia, France, Sweden and the Netherlands to take part. But one category was dominated by the hosts. Florian Faber led a Switzerland sweep Sunday in the recure men’s competition.
Faber defeated fellow countryman Valentin Choffat
to win gold in his first international competition in several months due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic
“It was very tough to shoot after such a long time in a competition
referring to the social distancing restrictions in place at the tournament and mask covering his mouth for the interview
“But it was quite nice to shoot again against international competition
I’m happy that they could come in such times.”
Travelling down from their home in the Netherlands, Gaby and Mike Schloesser – the now-married couple – both took wins in Wohlen
Gaby claimed recurve women’s gold over Maxine Pichonnaz
Mike, meanwhile, took first in the compound men’s category, 149-147, over Robin Jaatma of Estonia
The world number two was the first to blink
dropping his single point in the final first – an arrow leaking just high on the top spot – before Jaatma lost control of one in the fourth
The reigning champion of the Indoor Archery World Series (and Hyundai Archery World Cup
Schloesser displayed the form that’s taken him to so many international titles before
He drilled three 10s in the last end as the pressure hit Jaatma
“We just counted – it’s been nine months since my last competition,” said Schloesser
who was honest about the unexpected nerves he was feeling throughout the weekend
Fellow Estonian Meeri-Marita Paas redeemed Jaatma by winning gold in the compound women’s event
Having dispatched compatriot and top seed Lisell Jaatma in a semifinal shoot-off with a 10 to Lisell’s nine, Paas defeated Swiss archer Anne-Marie Studer
The Wohlen Invitational was hosted by PH Archery, a shop in northern Switzerland owned by Swiss international Patrizio Hofer. A 3400 CHF prize fund was on offer.
All 16 archers who competed had their scores automatically entered into the online results for the November stage of the Indoor Archery World Series. Confirmed results for that event are expected over the next couple of days.
The Indoor Archery World Series continues with its second online stage on 19-20 December. It will be accompanied by another small live event.
The 2021 Indoor Archery World Series is a mass-participation circuit of live and online archery tournaments.

MA 3/3/12 Linda Wohlen used Narcan to revive her son Steven two years ago after a heroin overdose
Her husband John Wohlen found Steven on the front lawn

Narcan is finding its way into middle class homes.Michele McDonald / for msnbc.comA powerful antidote that can reverse the potentially deadly effects of opiate drug overdoses -- including those from prescription painkillers -- has saved more than 10,000 lives in 15 years
but it’s still little-known and too hard to get
is so effective that it can revive virtually all victims of the ODs within minutes using a simple shot or
It was first distributed through needle exchange programs in the mid-1990s to prevent deaths of injection heroin users
naloxone is showing up in the medicine cabinets
kitchen cupboards and even the handbags of middle-class moms as some mainstream families find themselves grappling with escalating opiate addiction in their teens and young adults
“I kept it right on the counter by the microwave,” said Linda Wohlen
a 65-year-old school secretary who lives near Brockton
She used a naloxone kit to revive her son Steven
from a heroin overdose nearly two years ago
“I have it in my bedroom and I always have one in my pocketbook
It’s a terrible position for a parent to be in
but you are expecting them to use,” she said
obtained the naloxone through Learn to Cope
a Massachusetts-based group for parents of teens and young adults addicted to opiates
It’s one of 188 local sites run by 48 programs in 15 states and the District of Columbia. Since 1996, they’ve trained more than 53,000 people to save an addict’s life, said Eliza Wheeler, author of a report published last month by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention
“We don’t believe that death should be a consequence of using drugs
Death doesn’t teach a lesson,” said Wheeler
manager of an overdose prevention project for the Harm Reduction Coalition in Oakland
Having naloxone on hand can be an act of last resort
a final safety net for parents who've tried everything from threats and demands to jail and drug treatment
only to have their addicted children overdose
it’s about parents wanting their children to survive,” Wheeler added
About one in five U.S. high school students has misused prescription drugs
are reporting a renewed rise in heroin deaths among young people
But most parents -- like most people -- have never heard of naloxone and have no idea where or how to get it
“The light goes off when you’re talking to the parent of a kid who’s dealing with opiate addiction,” said Mark Kinzly
a trainer with the New York-based Harm Reduction Coalition and a former addict
“When they hear that there’s something out there that they could have access to
It’s just like the parent of a child who’s allergic to bee stings.”
naloxone suffers from both the stigma of its association with illicit drug use and from the lack of sustained funding for outreach to drug users
“There’s an intangible truth that people care less about drug-addicted folks than other folks,” said Maya Doe-Simkins
a Chicago public health consultant and researcher who has focused on naloxone
The number of programs distributing naloxone has climbed steadily from about 15 nationwide in 2005 to 48 in 2010
some 37,004 people died after drug overdoses in 2009
the most recent year for which figures are available
About three-quarters of the deaths were attributed to prescription painkillers
those drugs are starting to show up along with injection heroin in reported naloxone rescues in the San Francisco area
we have seen an increase in people reporting to us that they’ve used their naloxone to revive people who had taken opioid pills
either in combination with other drugs or alone,” said Wheeler
noting that the pills have included fentanyl
Whether the overdose is caused by pills or heroin hardly matters to Wheeler -- or to the many parents who say their kids may have started out using one kind of opiate but quickly escalated to another
“It all begins with the pills,” said Joanne Peterson of Randolph
after her then-teenage son started using prescription drugs
ever would have imagined my son doing heroin
We are not what anyone would picture,” Peterson added
Courtesy Linda WohlenIn Linda Wohlen’s case
her son Steven started using prescription pills at about age 19
when he still was a “wonderful kid with a heart of gold” who liked to crack jokes and ride bikes on the half-pipe in his family’s backyard
he’d become a heroin addict whose mother watched him walk out the front door one day
found him blue and unresponsive on the front lawn
“I knew right away what it was,” said Wohlen
who quickly rushed out with her naloxone kit
contained a vial of naloxone nasal spray and an adapter that allows it to be easily administered
Other kits contain injectable versions approved by the Food and Drug Administration that require more skill to deliver
Naloxone blocks the brain receptors that respond to opiates
instantly reversing the high and sending the addict into an abrupt and often painful withdrawal
It has no effect on intoxication from alcohol or other drugs
Naloxone typically is available only through drug programs that offer training as well as distribution. Such programs are limited and they're almost non-existent in some states with high rates of opiate overdoses. The South Boston Hope & Recovery Coalition has a national search site that can locate programs in specific ZIP codes. To search, click here.
Prescribing laws are complicated and vary from state to state
a law professor at Temple University and director of the Center for Health Law
the doc could prescribe the drug for the child and the parents could pick it up and have it on hand,” he said
“The place where it’s difficult is: You go to the adult doctor and say ‘My kid is using.’”
Some states, such as Washington, have passed so-called “Good Samaritan” laws that absolve users of naloxone from legal penalties that might arise from employing the drug to save someone’s life
Activists like Doe-Simkins would like to see wider availability of naloxone through doctors’ offices
as well as through more parent outreach programs
“Those models are the next wave,” she said
But not everyone agrees that take-home naloxone is a good idea
Critics long have argued that the availability of the drug gives addicts an excuse to use because they don’t have to fear an overdose death
Some charge that parents who keep naloxone on hand are enabling their children’s addiction
a former official with the White House Office of National Drug Control Policy
has supported naloxone use by trained health professionals
but has expressed concerns about use by addicts and their families or friends
if naloxone rescue is not supervised by health care workers
Madras cites studies that have shaped her worries that rescued addicts might not be appropriately monitored for medical complications
and that there won't be enough emphasis on getting addicts into treatment
The lives of naloxone-rescued people remain in danger of future overdoses and possibly death
"My foremost principle is to save lives," she wrote in an email to msnbc.com
"My secondary principle is to save more than a life during a crisis
or save a person from a lifetime of addiction and its adverse outcomes
or from noncompliance with pain medications."
But Wheeler said such critics may be confusing rescue with recovery
“Naloxone is not drug treatment,” she said
are those with the parents of addicts who died without the antidote
a reality Linda Wohlen can imagine all too well
they haven’t walked a mile in my shoes,” Wohlen said
I can’t help him kick this problem if he’s dead.”

Hydroelectricity has long been considered a mostly clean and renewable source of energy
But new research coming from Switzerland shows that hydro plants are capable of causing greater greenhouse gas emissions than previously thought
A study conducted by Switzerland’s Federal Institute of Aquatic Science and Technology (EAWAG) has discovered that the shallow Lake Wohlen
a greenhouse gas that contributes to climate change
The lake was observed bubbling during the summer — likened by one researcher to fizzy champagne
researchers determined that 150,000 tons per year of methane were rising from the lake
That’s comparable to the carbon dioxide emissions of a car driving 15.5 miles
said environmental chemist Tonya Del Sontro
A coal-powered generating station producing the same amount of electricity as the Aare plant would release approximately 40 times the amount of greenhouse gases
the findings represent an emission source not previously included in greenhouse gas calculations
The methane gas comes from sediment at the bottom of the impoundment that contains high amounts of carbon-rich material
Organic matter is transported to the lake by the River Aare and then undergoes microbial fermentation
The findings are similar to those from research on tropical reservoirs
a professor of aquatic sciences at Zurich’s Federal Institute of Technology
Research at Kariba Dam found high inflows of carbon-rich material
which formed sediment in the impoundment capable of releasing greenhouse gasses
Wehrli added that several variables affect whether this sediment will cause greenhouse gas emissions
That’s why this is a larger issue in tropical lakes
where warm temperatures foster the increased production of nutrients
methane production on Lake Wohlen decreased substantially during winter
“We have done a study of high Alpine reservoirs that are in a better state in terms of methane emissions,” Wehrli said
noting that high altitude mountain reservoirs are generally in colder
The Lake Wohlen study results were published in the journal Environmental Science and Technology
and researchers say they plan to study similar reservoirs to determine how significant an impact these findings have on greenhouse calculations
It’s long been known that the construction of hydro plants can be disruptive to surrounding aquatic ecosystems
especially with respect to their impact on dissolved oxygen
but they have historically been considered “clean,” in that they were thought not to emit greenhouse gases

frantically assembling a pen-like canister
she dropped to her knees and used the device to deliver two squirts up her son’s nostrils
and he sat up — brought back from a potentially lethal overdose by a drug commonly known by its old brand name
OxyContin and other powerful painkillers and has been routinely used by ambulance crews and emergency rooms in the U.S
public health officials across the nation have been distributing it free to addicts and their loved ones
as well as to some police and firefighters
Such giveaways may have saved more than 10,000 lives since the first program was started in 1996 in Chicago
according to a survey by the Harm Reduction Coalition
a national group that works to reduce the consequences of drug use
Opponents say that making the antidote so easily available is an accommodation to drug use that could make addicts less likely to seek treatment
The objections are not unlike those raised decades ago when addicts were first issued clean needles to curb the spread of AIDS
But Wohlen and his mother see things differently
“I just didn’t want to be that mother standing next to that casket,” Linda Wohlen said
Supporters of the distribution programs say getting naloxone into drug users’ homes saves lives that might otherwise be lost waiting for an ambulance
“The question has always been: How can we get people treated before they die
If an overdose of the drug is taken at home
you won’t have enough time to get that patient to the emergency room before respiratory depression leads to death,” said Dr
chairman of pain medicine at Beth Israel Medical Center in New York
The problem has become more urgent: Heroin overdose deaths in the U.S
according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention
Naloxone works by blocking certain drug receptors in the brain
It has no effect on alcohol or cocaine overdoses but can be used against such painkillers as OxyContin
it is issued to people such as Linda Wohlen through 50 programs in more than 188 locations around the country
Thousands of people have been trained to use injectable and nasal spray forms of the drug
Other countries are also distributing the drug to the public
programs are run by state or local health departments and addiction support groups
“If you’ve ever talked to a parent who watched their kid overdose
you wouldn’t wonder why we are doing this,” said Hilary Jacobs
deputy director of the Bureau of Substance Abuse Services in Massachusetts
where state officials began a distribution program in 2007 that they say has saved about 1,300 lives
The state has spent about $841,000 issuing free naloxone
each dose costing the Public Health Department $16
which has one of the highest drug overdose death rates in the country
health officials estimate the statewide naloxone distribution program that began in 2001 has counteracted 3,000 overdoses
an Appalachian area with an alarmingly high rate of prescription drug deaths
a nonprofit organization called Project Lazarus has taken a slightly different approach: It persuaded doctors to prescribe naloxone in tandem with painkillers to certain patients
has been credited by the organization with reducing overdose deaths 69 percent between 2009 and 2011
said he had never heard of naloxone when the group began to develop its overdose prevention plan
“Then I found out it was used in emergency rooms to reverse opiate overdoses,” he recalled
but not one person from Wilkes County who overdoses made it that far
a neighborhood activist in Worcester’s Main South neighborhood
opposed the distribution site set up in his city
“I just feel that the focus and our dollars should be getting people off drugs
“This policy is one of accommodation to anti-social behavior
it sends a false message that this is the silver bullet
this will take care of you if you overdose.”
Wohlen said he was angry rather than grateful when he woke up that night two years ago
replaced by withdrawal symptoms that he described as feeling like a terrible case of the flu
was out on bail for robbing a fast-food restaurant when he overdosed
and was sent back to prison because of his drug use
Now serving five to seven years behind bars in Massachusetts
he said in a recent prison interview that he is clean and has signed up for a prison training program to learn the heating and ventilation trade
He said the naloxone that his mother used made it possible: “I might be dead if she hadn’t done it.”

Viktor Korchnoi will soon return to competitive chess - at least for one tournament
The 82-year-old chess legend suffered a stroke in September 2012
and it was feared that he would never play chess again
"Viktor the Terrible" can be found in the participants list of the Zurich Christmas Open
Jittenmeier received the news from Dr Christian Issler
the Chairman of the Zurich Chess Club and a close friend of Korchnoi
Issler wrote that although Korchnoi is moving in a wheel chair these days
he still likes to visit friends at his house
On 6 September the Zurich Chess Club organized an excursion to the Swiss Chess Museum
Etienne Bacrot and Christian Bauer were also present
the group also played chess and in the photo below Dr Issler is playing with Korchnoi
Issler: “Ten days ago a group of Swiss senior players gathered in Wohlen and played a small tournament
The Swiss Senior squad in the Güpf House in Wohlen (Viktor Kortchnoi
Issler: “Everyone who got to know this chess legend
knows that chess means a lot to him and also that he is extremely tough
despite his health problems at the age of almost 83 years
he's going to fight in one more tournament; he has entered for the Zurich Christmas Open.”
Indeed, a look at the participants list of the tournament website learns that Korchnoi can be found on the 22nd place with a FIDE rating of 2499
The top seeds in this pretty strong tournament are Radek Wojtaszek (2711)
Evgeny Alekseev (2698) and Boris Grachev (2669)
The tournament runs 26-30 December and takes place in Hotel Crowne Plaza Zurich
Let's hope Korchnoi will indeed be able to make it to the chess board
It can definitely be called the chess comeback of the year 2013

The rider from Liechtenstein is now also the clear leader in the championship
Luca Pozzo was even happier than Steven Planchamp about his second place and his first ever podium
Mike Müller from the Bern Kart Racing Club was even more superior than Näscher in the X30 Juniors
Champion Savio Moccia had to make do with three third places
Elia Sperandio was also in a class of his own in the Super Mini
with only Michael Sauter able to keep up with him in the second heat
Hugo Giraud narrowly won the battle for third place in the final against Florent Panès
Next race on May 20/21 in Lignières The next kart race will once again take place in Switzerland
the TCS circuit in Lignières will be the venue on May 20/21
all kart racers will once again find a perfectly flat and fast track with good run-off areas
It can also be viewed from the natural grandstands

SKM WOHLEN The third round of the autobau Swiss Kart Championship took place on Saturday in Wohlen
and there were also a few surprises at the end
The tightly angled track layout of the Wohlen kart track in the canton of Aargau presented special conditions
especially for the drivers in the larger classes
The angular track layout of the Wohlen karting track in the canton of Aargau posed special conditions
especially for the drivers of the large classes
Overtaking maneuvers against drivers of the same level were only possible with a lot of risk due to the narrow track without run-off zones
which was interspersed with many waves and humps
The failure rate due to pile-ups and jostling was correspondingly high
KZ2: Reinhard wins again and is new overall leader After a weak start to the season
championship favorite André Reinhard had already returned to the top with a final victory in Vesoul
After a win and a second place in the two heats
he waited patiently for his chance behind Arnaud Nussbaum
who had dominated the season opener in Pavia
With a hard maneuver he squeezed past the leader and then immediately put a few meters between himself and the chasers
André Reinhard: "26 laps in Wohlen are difficult
We chose a setup that was perfect for the second half of the race
I'm now back in business in the race for the title."
The defeated Nussbaum was not even allowed to enjoy second place
third-placed Tobias Widmer launched an overly optimistic overtaking maneuver that took both riders out of the race
This meant that Kevin Lüdi and Samuel Weibel were allowed to climb onto the podium alongside Reinhard
who had been leading the overall standings until Wohlen
In the second heat he dropped out after a carom
but in the final he kept the damage within bounds with 4th place
he had to relinquish the overall lead to Reinhard
OK Senior: Formula 3 driver Fabio Scherer challenges Patrick Näscher Patrick Näscher had already swept all the victories in Pavia and Vesoul
he again left no stone unturned and won all three races
although he had a very strong opponent in Formula 3 guest driver Fabio Scherer (Top Kart/Parilla)
The two immediately and clearly set themselves apart from the rest of the field
after all a two-time Swiss karting champion in 2014 (KF3) and 2015 (X30 Challenge)
I was the fastest in qualifying and set the fastest race lap in the final
attacking him would have involved too much risk
and I didn't want to interfere unnecessarily in the championship
But overall it was fun to be in the kart again and meet many of my former opponents and colleagues."
who managed to keep last year's runner-up Pascal von Allmen behind him
Alessio Fagone and Florent Panès were the only two OC juniors at the start in Wohlen
Fagone won all three of the races held together with the X30 Juniors
Iame X30 Challenge: A trio sets itself apart As is often the case
cost-efficient class also provided the largest starting field in Wohlen with 23 competitors
The scramble in the tight starting bend was correspondingly great
who had lost places and points in Vesoul due to time penalties
he scored the maximum points and thus also moved to the top of the championship
and the previous overall leader Savio Moccia were left with the two places of honor
it looks as if these three drivers will decide the X30 championship title among themselves
Iame X30 Junior: New role distribution The bad news came already before the start in Wohlen: The young championship leader Hugo Giraud had a serious accident at an international race in Belgium (fracture of the thigh) and will not be able to compete in the SKM again this season
Michael Sauter and Samir Ben who fought it out for the race wins
He won all three races in a superior way and surprisingly scored the maximum of 75 points
Second in the final was Sperandio ahead of Sauter and Vaucher
Super Mini: From the very back to the very front Hectic starts
race aborts and sometimes very hard fought battles for positions without regard for losses characterized the races of the youngest
Ekaterina Lüscher was able to stay out of the biggest turmoil thanks to a front row start and won both heats
championship leader Shannon Lugassy caught her shortly before the finish
Lugassy had had to start from far back due to a defective time transponder and fought his way through the field to the top
Lugassy and Lüscher are only three points apart (170:167)
Live and to follow on the Internet All final races of Wohlen were broadcasted via live stream with commentary on the internet as at every SKM event. Who would like to watch the races afterwards, can do this under http://swiss-sport.tv/sports/3-andere-sportarten do

England booked their place at next year's World Cup finals with a comfortable aggregate victory though not without some on-the-night scares in an often fractious second leg at Wohlen's tiny stadium some 35 miles from Zurich
Brown was sent off for allegedly hair-pulling and pushing Ramona Bachmann to the floor as the striker tried to retrieve the ball after she had scored from 15 yards to halve England's two-goal lead
But TV replays clearly showed that after minimal contact on her torso
Bachmann clutched her face and threw herself to the ground
England will tomorrow appeal to Uefa to overturn the red card
which rules Brown out of the first three matches of next year's World Cup finals in Germany
"To me it looks quite evident that she dived," said Hope Powell
"Hopefully when we appeal they will see what we see and the decision will be reversed
It was bizarre but it had the desired effect
It's a real shame it happened – that's not the way to go about playing football – and we have to appeal."
asked the Romanian referee at the time to explain her decision
"She told me she had sent her off for hair-pulling but that's clearly not the case," White said
Goals by the striker Kelly Smith and the right‑winger Eniola Aluko had given Powell's team a four-goal advantage on aggregate before Bachmann's strike
The midfielder Fara Williams eased any nerves with a penalty just after the break and though the right winger Selina Zumbuhl's goal kept the home side in the game they never looked likely to wrest the tie from England's grasp
"The girls were magnificent," Powell added
"We knew exactly what we had to do after the sending off and we went into the second half with a clear plan
The girls were so disciplined and worked their legs off
It was a bit of a roller-coaster but we were confident we'd come through if we kept our shape."
Powell's team went ahead through Smith in the 32nd minute
the striker making amends for having shot wide from a ninth penalty in an opening spell of England pressure that also saw the Boston Breakers player hit the bar and Aluko twice denied by the goalkeeper Marisa Brunner
When Aluko slid in the second goal from Smith's 34th minute pass a clear-cut victory seemed assured
Powell's team had to play the final 48 minutes with 10 players and though Williams successfully converted a 50th-minute penalty to stretch the aggregate lead
the Swiss pushed hard to get back into the game and did so when Zumbuhl expertly curled home a 64th minute free-kick
The substitute Isabelle Meyer then hit the bar direct from a 79th minute corner
but England played out the closing stages with no further problems and next year in Germany will make their second successive World Cup finals appearance
"It's certainly been a challenging campaign
We've not played particularly well in most of the qualifiers and right now it's an odd feeling but what we've achieved will probably sink in later when we've had a glass of wine or two
Switzerland (4-4-2): Brunner: Remund (Meyer 58)
Maendly (Kuster 58); Bachmann (Crnogorcevic 76)
England (4-2-3-1): Brown (Everton); A Scott (Boston Breakers)
Unitt (Everton); Chapman (Chicago Red Stars)
Williams (Everton); Eniola Aluko (Atlanta Beat) (Chamberlain
the Kart Championship is returning to Wohlen
all five classes will compete in the second round of the autobau Swiss Kart Championship on the race track near Waltenschwil
which is easily accessible and visible to spectators
https://www.facebook.com/SchweizerKartMeisterschaft/videos/1915076902104808
This enables the return of the autobuild Swiss Kart Championship (SKM) in the canton of Aargau
There are still treacherous spots and bumps
but the kart racers have to know how to deal with them
As no races are permitted on Sundays out of consideration for local residents
the entire racing program will take place on Saturday
So you will never see more kart racing in one day all year round
Especially as the paddock is freely accessible to visitors and the entire race track is clearly visible
Each of the five championship classes - KZ2 Shift Karts
Iame X30 Junior and Supermini - will hold one official practice session
All final races will also be broadcast online via livestream with commentary (see link below)
The first favorites crystallize The season started at the beginning of April near Pavia in Italy
last year's champion Loic Vindice was already back at the top of the championship
while Samuel Weibel set the tone in the up-and-coming OK class
former GP2 champion Fabio Leimer celebrated a victorious return in this class in 2016
Patrick Näscher underlined his title ambitions with three race wins in the X30 Challenge Switzerland
defending champion Savio Moccia was beaten by the equally fast Mike Müller
Elia Sperandio was the measure of all things in the youngest category

Dan Allemann was the only driver who could take it easy at the finale
The 10-year-old from the Spirit-Karting.ch team was already set as the Super Minis champion before the big clash at his home race in Aargau
Chiara Bättig drove away from all In the OK Junior category
Elia Epifanio (Exprit) and Chiara Bättig (KartBox.ch
gallery left) were separated by just five points before the final
Epifanio even managed to extend this mini-lead by two points after the first heat thanks to second place (behind winner Kevin Rabin) ahead of Bättig
Epifanio had to watch as Bättig drove unleashed to victory
Kilian Streit needed a point The starting position in the X30 Challenge Switzerland was not quite as exciting
leader Kilian Streit (center gallery with Lyon Mathur) needed a single point for his first SM title
He secured it with a solid sixth place in the first heat (winner Alessio Strollo)
In the second heat Streit turned up the heat - with second place behind Nicolaj Sabo
Sabo was still trembling over his first triumph this year due to a five-second penalty
Lyon Mathur with deserved title The OK Senior category offered a tight starting position
Only ten points separated leader Lyon Mathur (Exprit) from last year's champion Patrick Näscher (Kartteam Meier)
After the first heat (Mathur ahead of Näscher) and the pole position for Mathur
it looked after the first lap as if Näscher would come back again
he shot across the finish line after the first lap
But after that the Liechtensteiner was successively pushed back
The 16-year-old from Sarmenstorf deservedly took the title
Sebastian Kraft against Eric Berguerand In the switch karts in the KZ2 category
Ethan Frigomosca from Ticino had a six-point lead over Sebastian Kraft (gallery on the right with his fan club) before the final
The latter shortened his lead to 228:232 before the first heat with the pole position and the two extra points he won for it
And with the victory in the first heat he even took the lead
only because Frigomosca had to give up after a collision
In the second heat Frigomosca (2nd) prevailed against Kraft (3rd)
the latter's final victory was almost lost
third was VIP driver Eric Berguerand (AutoSprintCH reported)
Dan Allemann starts final as winner In the youngest category (eight to twelve years)
And that was a good thing for the son of team owner Ken Allemann
Because Allemann offered in Wohlen seen over the whole season his worst weekend in the Super Minis
Matt Corbi clearly secured the runner-up title behind Allemann with a top performance
Third place in the final standings went to Albert Tamm

It seems as if a harsh wind has swept away many traditional Swiss companies
More and more companies are having to close down or put the brakes on savings
The global economy is constantly being put to the test by war
As the SME portal of the State Secretariat for Economic Affairs (SECO) shows in an analysis
3006 companies went bankrupt in the first six months of 2024
The big quake came in 2023 with the demise of Credit Suisse
Other traditional Swiss companies were forced to close this year
blue News shows you which eleven companies had to close their doors for good in 2024 - or have to make rigorous savings
Braunwalder slaughterhouse in Wohlen AG is closing down
This was announced at the beginning of the year
The company announced that the 63 employees affected will receive their wages until the end of January
Braunwalder AG cited the acute shortage of skilled workers
rising energy costs and increasing price pressure as the reasons for the closure
the coronavirus pandemic continues to have a negative impact on the business
which ultimately means that it can no longer continue to operate profitably
it is no longer possible to operate profitably," said the company's statement
The slaughterhouse has been part of the Heba Food Group based in Lenzburg AG since 2013
the continuation of the six butchery branches under the name of a sister company is to be considered
The metal construction company Neuweiler AG in Kreuzlingen TG is on the verge of going out of business
This was reported by the Swiss media three months ago
which specializes in large welded constructions made of steel
The main reason for the closure is the sharp rise in the cost of electricity and materials
which has brought the company to its knees economically
Neuweiler AG can look back on a long company history dating back to 1833
But now the machines have finally come to a standstill
"It's a bad feeling that I wouldn't wish on anyone," says Christian Neuweiler
Chairman of the company's Board of Directors
the last Swiss manufacturer of wrapping paper
is facing a drastic step: around 60 employees are to be made redundant as production and logistics are to be discontinued
This was reported in the media three months ago
The company was already forced to make its first job cuts in May last year
Head of Marketing and member of the Executive Board
assured the "Luzerner Zeitung" that the future of the company was not at risk despite the job cuts
the pressure on the company was already clearly noticeable at the time
solvents and transportation were putting us under a lot of pressure," explained Schaffo
the company's machines had already been switched off for several weeks at times
Despite these measures and the dismissal of individual employees last year
the future of the company still seemed secure at the time
Two months ago, blue News reported that the traditional fabric store Creasphere was closing its doors
once part of the famous Gessner silk weaving mill
was the last link to a long weaving tradition
Now the remaining seven branches are also facing closure
The stores throughout Switzerland will be closed by the fall
This marks the end of almost 200 years of history, as reported by the Tages-Anzeiger newspaper
The roots of Gessner AG go back to the year 1841
The company gained worldwide recognition for its fabric production in Wädenswil ZH before becoming the last Swiss silk weaving mill to close its doors in 2016
The Creasphere stores offered a wide range of sewing and knitting utensils as well as interior design advice
business with interior design advice has plummeted in recent years
"People have other priorities than optimizing their homes down to the last curtain," explained Managing Director Urs Schindler
Fussi had to deliver "very difficult and sad news"
The effects of the bankruptcy in Germany have now also become "insurmountable" at the Swiss headquarters in Wangen near Olten
Every effort has been made to avert the end
The closure is apparently immediate: all 24 branches in Switzerland are closing with immediate effect
The employees of the bookstore chain with a history stretching back almost 90 years have been made redundant with immediate effect and should contact the RAV
we will no longer be able to pay the August salary," writes Fussi
It has been known for some time that things are not going well at the photovoltaic company Meyer Burger
New details about the company's slow demise have recently come to light
the Swiss solar company Meyer Burger only made headlines with negative news
the company from Thun attracted attention at the end of August when it once again announced extensive restructuring measures
The company announced that the planned construction of a solar cell production facility in Colorado Springs could not be financed at present
This is not the first U-turn by Meyer Burger
whose management had not so long ago presented cell production in Colorado as part of the rescue plan for the ailing company
Production should have started at the end of 2024
Meyer Burger's bottom line for the 2023 financial year was a loss of 291.9 million Swiss francs
It is the tenth financial year in a row to end in the red
A capital increase in spring 2024 does not seem to have worked either
with the share price down 96.4 percent since the beginning of the year
a long-established company specializing in the design and manufacture of systems for the food
chemical and pharmaceutical industries as well as for renewable energies
"The search for a new location and the option of a new building with potential investors failed to produce a satisfactory result," the Board of Directors announced
The company's approximately 65 employees must prepare for the end of operations
The Board of Directors cites the "geopolitical situation and its economic impact" as the main reasons for the closure
The continuation of the company and the necessary investments would represent too great a risk
whose origins date back to Kupferschmiede-Aluminum-Schweisswerk AG
exports around 70 percent of its products and faces tough competition from foreign rivals
Managing Director Thomas Gerber emphasized that the company is working at full capacity for 2024 and has already received several orders for 2025
"Even though the mood in markets such as Asia and the USA is currently cautious
the announcement of the closure came as a shock to our customers," said Gerber
who was informed of the closure shortly before the other employees
the media announced several crisis situations at traditional Swiss companies
blue News writes: Schaerer Medical AG
a long-established company based in Münsingen BE
had to undergo financial restructuring at the beginning of the year
as reported by the "Berner Zeitung"
Schaerer Medical AG from Münsingen BE
a traditional company with over 100 years of history
had to initiate a financial restructuring at the beginning of the year
As reported by the "Berner Zeitung"
the company ran into serious financial difficulties due to high costs and low margins
Schaerer Medical laid off around half of its workforce and applied for a debt restructuring moratorium
This was finally approved by a court in October
The company now has six months to stabilize itself and find a way out of the crisis
known for the development of operating tables
is facing major challenges on the global market
the company has already reduced its product range
The company is currently looking for a new owner who is prepared to make the necessary investments to secure the company's future
The coming months will be decisive in determining whether Schaerer Medical AG can continue its operations
The Emmenbrück-based steel manufacturer Swiss Steel is in a serious financial crisis
Main shareholder Martin Haefner had to inject 300 million Swiss francs in the spring to support the company
the situation has deteriorated dramatically
The stock market value has fallen by more than 75 percent within six months and the capital from the increase has already been burned through
a large number of people are working short-time
The problems at Swiss Steel are closely linked to the crisis in the European automotive industry
where the company is experiencing heavy losses
The plants in Germany are operating well below capacity and demand for steel continues to fall
Hoffmann Neopac AG is cutting 37 full-time jobs in Thun
The packaging company is relocating the jobs to the Netherlands
The reasons for the relocation of a total of three can production lines are the loss of important customers in Switzerland and the unfavorable development of the euro exchange rate
These are having a negative impact on costs at the Gwatt site in Thun
The 37 full-time positions are expected to be cut by the end of the year
A spokeswoman was unable to say exactly how many employees will be affected when asked by the Keystone-SDA news agency
A consultation process with the staff commission will run until November 13 to allow suggestions and ideas for mitigating the impact on staff to be submitted
Migros already announced at the beginning of the year that it would close or sell its specialist stores
It is already noticeable in some shopping centers or shopping streets in Switzerland that a Migros subsidiary is missing here and there
Everything that is not part of the core business is to be sold
the core business also includes the areas of finance (Migros Bank) and health (Medbase)
Melectronics: It has been clear since mid-June that Media Markt will take over 20 locations of the electronics retailer Melectronics
the end is sealed for the company's remaining stores
These will be gradually closed by the end of November
The takeover marks a significant step in the Swiss electronics retail sector and will further strengthen Media Markt's market position
SportX: Migros has announced that the Dosenbach-Ochsner Group is taking over 27 locations of the Migros specialist store SportX
24 locations will continue to operate under the Ochsner Sport brand and 3 locations under the Dosenbach brand
All employees of the affected stores will be taken on
Apprentices at all SportX stores will be able to continue their training seamlessly at Ochsner Sport
Negotiations are currently underway with various other interested parties for the remaining 22 of Migros' 49 SportX stores
The takeover of the stores is subject to review by the Competition Commission
the bicycle retailer Bike World and the DIY chain Do it + Garden will also be put up for sale
It is not yet clear which company will buy these Migros specialist stores
Hotelplan: Migros' travel business is also to be sold
The travel business is proving to be low-margin: Hotelplan generated a profit of just CHF 27 million on sales of CHF 1.7 billion in 2023
tour operators have to book services such as flights
accommodation and transportation in advance in order to secure availability and attractive prices
these advance payments amount to around CHF 200 million per year
The coronavirus crisis highlighted the risk of the travel business when Migros had to step in as the parent company
Hotelplan still owes Migros around CHF 100 million from this period
