The Blur Building is an architecture of atmosphere – a fog mass resulting from natural and manmade forces
the project is conceived as a multimedia pavilion for Expo 2002 in Switzerland with the objective of taking visitors into an immersive environment that questions their dependence on vision itself
The disk-shaped structure is supported by four columns
and is based on the principle of tensegrity
which consists in balancing a group of compressed metallic profiles within a grid of taut cables
Water is pumped from the lake and shot as a fine mist through 35,000 high-pressure nozzles
A smart weather system reads the shifting climatic conditions of temperature
and regulates water pressure at a variety of zones
There is only an optical “white-out” and the “white-noise” of pulsing nozzles
complemented by an acoustic project by Swiss artist Christian Marclay
Two footbridges formed by prefab metallic sections connect the lake shore with the pavilion
gradually spanning the difference in height

When heritage and contemporary architecture interact
the new gymnasium at Pestalozzi Street has its main facade; this confrontation creates a new dynamic space and showcases both the old as the new building town
The layout of the building is simple and respects both urban constraints as the original site of the old gym
The building displays its main face to the parking on the side of the castle facade
It is on this front that are moving the three gyms
The building consists of two volumes with very different architectural character value functions
It consists of two parts that are home to the three gyms
the structural character is underlined by slanted columns in front
Above it is a volume in the fluid volume which houses the large gym
south side houses the changing rooms spaces
parallelepipeds concrete are connected by an open space that protects the hall the reception area and corridors
The part housing gyms comprises the ground floor
peripheral structure of concrete poles tilted and a central concrete core housing sanitary and storage rooms equipment
This structure supports a concrete slab forming the floor of the stage
A curtain wall glass interrupts this volume to create
a large facade bathed in natural light from the south
This grand facade is naturally protected by vertical wooden venetian blind
In terms of energy as the building is very effective
with the double choice of orientation and construction materials
The building allows its direction of maximum use of natural light and thus allow energy while a large economy throughout the year

The deficit for 2022 has been blamed on the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic
The budget for Yverdon-les-Bains had allowed for a deficit of 10.2 million francs for 2022 but ended up being just 4.3 million francs short
Authorities say that a reduction in personnel costs has helped to balance the books along with an increase in tax revenue of 2.2 million francs

Peru's Israel Hilario competes in the C2 road race at the 2015 Para-Cycling Road World Cup in Yverdon-les-Bains
When he crossed the finish line in first position at June’s UCI Para-Cycling Road World Cup in Yverdon-les-Bains
Israel Hilario was immediately congratulated by his wife Sandra
She accompanied him as he took photos; provided him with clean
dry clothes; and acted as translator for officials
There was no team tent to welcome Israel Hilario
He waited in the rain on a public bench to find out if he would be called for an anti-doping test
Hilario is his country’s only representative on the international para-cycling circuit
and Sandra Hilario is his massage therapist
She just draws the line at the title of “mechanic.”
Hilario currently wears the leader’s jersey of the 2015 UCI Para-cycling Road World Cup after victories in the C2 road races of the opening two rounds in Maniago, Italy
He also finished sixth and third in the two time trials
despite the fact that he has never owned a time trial bike
Israel Hilario is making enormous progress
He likes to think that his good results since 2012 are bearing fruit in his country
as the Peruvian Government is now starting to invest money in Paralympic competitors
“We have the capacity to compete at international level but we need to change mentalities,” Hilario said
“Peruvian society is not as advanced as many when it comes to people with (disabilities)
A person with a (disability) does not have a future
he sends a small article and photo to the local newspaper in a bid to give the sport more exposure and change attitudes in his country
“People can read in the newspaper that someone with a disability has won an international race
and this is particularly important to motivate young people,” Hilario said
He added that the mentalities of athletes from some of para-cycling’s leading nations are also changing
"Other countries are starting to realise that people from poor countries can perform,” Hilario said
I train and train every day with conventional cyclists and that helps me progress.”
Never has Hilario been so competitive on the international scene
With the UCI Para-cycling Road World Championships (28 July – 2 August) looming in Nottwil
he will not be drawn into public declarations about his objectives
I want to be well and I want to have good bikes
Following the Road World Championships, Hilaro also plans to race in the upcoming Toronto 2015 Parapan American Games
three universities from French-speaking Switzerland - EPFL
HEIA-FR and HEIG-VD - will co-host the sixth annual HydroContest competition
challenging student teams to come up with fast
Around a dozen teams from six European countries are gearing up to compete in the sixth annual HydroContest
which will be held on Lake Neuchâtel in Yverdon-les-Bains this year from 1 to 8 September
This year's contest is more specifically called HydroContest-X
because it is being organized jointly by three universities in French-speaking Switzerland: EPFL
the Fribourg School of Engineering and Architecture (HEIA-FR) and the Vaud School of Management and Engineering (HEIG-VD)
which is supported every year by the Hydros Foundation
build and race the most energy-efficient boats possible
The event is free of charge and open to the public
remote-controlled boats to compete in two contest categories
like Laurel and Hardy - one for thin and light boats
where the aim is to sail fast and far; the other for bigger and heavier ones
which must haul 200 kg of cargo to simulate a freight vessel
Boats in both categories run on batteries provided by the organizer
The event aims to not only enhance students' education
but also build awareness about the need for cleaner
more energy-efficient shipping vessels and spark ideas for technology in this area
EPFL students have participated in the contest every year since it was launched
And this year's team will show up in Yverdon-les-Bains with not two
Two of them are from last year's HydroContest
which competed in the Mass Transport category
is a hybrid between a catamaran and an airboat that sails on a thin cushion of air
It won the innovation prize last year but was eliminated during the quarterfinals
which competed in the Private Boats category
This boat proved to be fast but fairly unstable; it came in second place last year behind HEIA-FR
The third boat - new this year - is designed after a prao
It has only one hull and one lateral float
yet it still needs to be tweaked," says Sébastien Jaffaux
"So at this point it's too early to enter it in the race
But the students have big plans for next year
they will use their prototypes as test platforms for the 2020 Monaco Solar & Energy Boat Challenge
The boats in that event - another international competition - will measure over six meters long and have a sailor on board.
