“As a woman who was a girl in the 90s
it was very much for childhood diagnosis; all the research was done on boys
The diagnostic criteria were based on boys
There were suspicions earlyish in childhood
not being able to pay attention in classes
A word used throughout my entire childhood was “potential”
They tried not to figure out what was wrong but sought support
and that means you have to lock her in the laundry when she has a tantrum for one minute for every year of her age”
it was a situation that happens for a lot of late-diagnosed autistic people
I have a close friend who is autistic and who had her diagnosis
Autistic/neurodivergent people seem to gravitate towards each other
“My initial assessment was done in 2019
It was through a local therapist after my psychologist said
I wouldn’t be surprised if you were [autistic]”
diagnoses are so difficult to access because they are so expensive.”
“So much is people genuinely not knowing
so I never attribute to malice what can simply be attributed to ignorance
I can articulate myself with correct grammar and vocabulary
but often I am misunderstood through misinterpreted additional meanings that I had never intended
Or I will miss things that others are implying because they weren’t stated directly
there can be a misconception that autism is typically perceived as about communication difficulties
It’s just one element of the overall spectrum.”
“I have a lot of empathy for Will Ospreay as I know just as much as anyone that when you are first starting out
you are going to start using language that you haven’t properly been exposed to
It comes with further research and education
I would imagine that he is just speaking from his own life experience and would wholeheartedly encourage anyone in that situation to look at a diagnosis to further know about themselves
I have a lot of respect for Will Ospreay’s physical capabilities
I would like to have this authentic representation of autism in the industry
I genuinely hope that he has become a better person post-Speaking Out allegations
But I also try to be analytical of how people use autism to present themselves publicly because some people will try and use it as a get-out-of-jail-free card.”
When it comes to doing something in the ring
My brain connects things to things that are already pre-existing or things that I understand
I don’t want to dismiss the hard work of anybody else
but I could almost describe it as my brain takes ten times as long to understand something as a neurotypical who might more naturally take to wrestling
That’s not to be dismissive of struggles neurotypicals have
It’s just like putting an extra hurdle or ten in a typical
I got stuck in fundies [fundamentals class] purgatory
It took me two failed attempts at grading to pass into the progressive level last year
Counting from when I first started training to when I actually had my debut match
and I see and will continue to see so many people who started later than I have overtake me
lapping me and running circles around me.”
I have thought many times it would be nearly impossible to do this without feeling like a failure
That’s my rationale between continuing to do it even though I am not made for it
One of my biggest life lessons is that you regret the things that you don’t do
I wish I didn’t do that.” It’s fairly obvious I’m not going to become a WWE superstar in this lifetime
But I would at least rather actually do the things that I enjoy than be a passive consumer of it.”
what makes it onto the TV is the best of the very best
If we are using Will Ospreay as the example
don’t think because you’re autistic and you’re not Will Ospreay that there isn’t space for you
There is space for us within the community
We have to be patient with ourselves to find the right time and right moment
it should come down to how much you are enjoying it
some people want to make this their career
I’ve found the most enjoyment I have had with wrestling is focusing on myself
If you allow yourself to be happy with learning a kip-up in training
then that’s going to be the moments that keep you happy and keep you going

Oklahoma lawmakers passed the state’s “Energy Discrimination Elimination Act” (EDEA)
which requires the office of the state treasurer to conduct a review of firms to identify those that boycott investments in oil-and-gas companies due to their embrace of so-called “Environmental Social Governance” (ESG) policies
In April, the Oklahoma Rural Association released a study that claimed the Energy Discrimination Elimination Act has increased municipal borrowing costs by 15.7 percent
has examined the Oklahoma Rural Association’s work and found it riddled with flaws and omissions that skewed its findings
“As we release this comprehensive analysis
it’s clear that the Energy Discrimination Elimination Act of 2022 is crucial for safeguarding Oklahoma’s economic interests and ensuring sound fiduciary practices,” said Jason Isaac
“Our research debunks the flawed claims against the EDEA
highlighting its role in protecting vital energy sectors and promoting financial stability for the state.”
“Fact versus Fiction: Examining Oklahoma’s Energy Discrimination Elimination Act of 2022” was authored by Vance Ginn
former chief economist of the White House’s Office of Management and Budget and a fellow at the American Energy Institute
an economist with 30 years’ experience in state-level public policy who served on the Piedmont City Council and was the director of the 1889 Institute in Oklahoma
The two men examined the “Energy Discrimination Elimination Act” and the Oklahoma Rural Association’s critique of the law
“The Oklahoma Rural Association’s report on the state’s Energy Discrimination Elimination Act and its purported impact on municipal borrowing costs contains significant methodological flaws,” Ginn and Schlomach write
“It fails to establish a causal relationship between the EDEA and higher municipal borrowing costs
Changes in federal policy with respect to the oil industry
first positive under President Trump and now decidedly negative under President Biden
are more plausible explanations for Oklahoma’s relatively increased borrowing costs
the push towards ESG investing overlooks the opportunity costs associated with divesting from reliable energy sources like oil and gas
Due to the flaws in the Oklahoma Rural Association study
Ginn and Schlomach conclude that it “should not be used as a reason to question or delay the implementation of protections put in place by the elected representatives of states like Oklahoma and Texas against asset managers using the assets of those states to push ESG-aligned political objectives.”
they write that policymakers should “ensure that investment decisions prioritize profitability and fiduciary responsibilities over politically driven
subjective ESG criteria through increased transparency
This approach will better safeguard economic interests and promote sustainable growth
benefiting the broader community and the environment.”
Among the problems that Ginn and Schlomach identify in the Oklahoma Rural Association report is the fact that a comparison of Oklahoma municipal bonds with a national index “shows Oklahoma’s interest rates varied by less since September 2022
before the law went into effect in November 2022 and when the Treasurer issued the restricted financial companies list in May 2023.”
“This indicates that EDEA did not cause interest rate movements and that the paper’s results come from cherry-picking the data and specific states,” Ginn and Schlomach write
The two economists also write that the Oklahoma Rural Association report overlooked other important factors
“such as the upward trend in interest rates,” and also contained “methodological challenges of correlation versus causation.”
The Oklahoma Rural Association’s report claims the EDEA has increased municipal borrowing costs by approximately 59 basis points (0.59 percent)
a 15.7 percent increase compared to some states
and attributes that increase to reduced financial competition that the report suggests has been created by the EDEA
Ginn and Schlomach note that the Oklahoma Rural Association report notably omitted New Mexico from the selected neighboring states examined
“raising questions about whether the chosen states moved in parallel with Oklahoma before the EDEA’s implementation.”
they note that “a substantial outflow of funds from municipal bonds” occurred nationwide in 2022 and 2023
Ginn and Schlomach note that Oklahoma’s municipal borrowing interest rates were “trending upward long before the EDEA’s passage and implementation.”
And the two economists argue that the Oklahoma Rural Association report fails to address the negative impact of ESG investing strategies on Oklahoma
“Divesting from reliable energy sources like oil and gas in favor of renewable energy projects often result in lower returns and economic disruptions,” Ginn and Schlomach write
“States with significant economic output from the oil and gas sector
face significant spillover effects from reduced investment in these industries
These spillover effects include job losses
which ultimately create ripple effects on the broader state economy.”
using ESG criteria in public pension funds and state investments “can lead to lower financial performance and increased risks
as highlighted by critiques and evidence.”
“EDEA is specifically designed to counteract the growing trend among financial institutions to shun investments in fossil fuel industries due to ESG pressures,” Ginn and Schlomach write
Oklahoma ensures that its oil and gas sectors

Australian battery manufacturer EDEA Energy confirmed it has successfully exported its super6T lithium-ion battery to a US defence client
which can power some 95 per cent of military vehicles
was designed by Energy Renaissance over four years with a multimillion-dollar investment
If you check the box above before you log in
you won’t have to log back into the website next time you return
even if you close your browser and come back later
Vehicles that can use the battery include main battle tanks and support trucks
EDEA confirmed that the battery is comprised of a cyber secure battery management system
proprietary thermal management and a range of additional solutions which ensure that the capability delivers power in silent watch operations and rapid cranking in all conditions
with key components developed by the CSIRO
The super6T was designed to surpass the Class 1-B90LL 6T and MIL-PRF32565C Amd
which the company explained makes it the highest classification and safest 6T battery
Being able to power nearly 95 per cent of NATO-aligned military vehicles
the company expects that the recent announcement will mark a pivotal step for them in the military vehicle battery market
The battery represents a step forward in battery technology
6T batteries have relied on lead-acid chemistry
known for its durability and affordability
lead-acid batteries present limitations in energy density
transitioning to lithium-ion chemistry offers crucial advantages: higher energy density
Weight reduction alone can enhance vehicle performance
particularly for aerial deployment or rapid manoeuvres in combat.”
EDEA signed an exclusive supply agreement with Energy Renaissance valued at $161 million for the manufacture of lithium-ion solutions
“EDEA can now confidently supply the Australian Defence Force and primes with 100 per cent sovereign Australian energy storage solutions – from cell processing to battery manufacturing
This eliminates foreign security and supply chain risk and removes FX and quality uncertainty,” said Mark Tipping
“This partnership also means we can design
develop and manufacture sovereign Australian batteries for almost any defence requirement
One cannot underestimate the importance of this agreement for national security
“It also opens the door for more collaboration beyond the 6T NATO SilentWatch battery,” Tipping said

Indigenous animal genetic resources play a crucial role in preserving global genetic diversity and supporting the livelihoods of millions of people
the majority of the cattle population consists of indigenous breeds
Understanding the genetic architecture of these cattle breeds is essential for effective management and conservation efforts
we sequenced DNA samples from 70 animals from seven indigenous cattle breeds
generating about two terabytes of pair-end reads with an average coverage of 14X
The sequencing data were pre-processed and mapped to the cattle reference genome (ARS-UCD1.2) with an alignment rate of 99.2%
the variant calling process produced approximately 35 million high-quality SNPs
These data provide a deeper understanding of the genetic landscape
facilitate the identification of causal mutations
and enable the exploration of evolutionary patterns to assist cattle improvement and sustainable utilization
particularly in the face of unpredictable climate changes
It also serves as a guiding framework for breed development programs
enabling them to align with specific production needs in diverse environments
our WGS data will serve as a valuable resource for conducting further in-depth studies and investigations in tropical cattle
This sequence dataset will facilitate a deeper understanding of the genetic landscape
allowing for the identification and validation of causal mutations that contribute to essential traits and the exploration of evolutionary patterns
the detailed analytical procedures offer significant advantages for researchers
such as ease of management of similar WGS and implementation of global cattle meta-assemblies at a broader scale
which combines multiple genetic or genomic data assemblies into a single
will enable the accurate validation of regions under selection reported by various researchers
ensuring the identification of actual signals while minimizing false positives and supporting future breed improvement and conservation efforts
We specifically selected seven indigenous cattle populations (Abigar, Barka, Boran, Fellata, Fogera, Gojjam-Highland, and Horro) for our study, with ten unrelated samples collected from each population. These cattle populations inhabit distinct agro-climatic regions, representing Ethiopia’s diverse environments (Table 1)
We selected these particular populations based on their relevance to agricultural practices
providing insights into desirable production traits
Blood samples were drawn from the jugular vein of the cattle under sterile conditions
The samples were carefully transported to the laboratory in an ice box and stored at −20 °C until DNA extraction
The blood samples were thawed for 30 minutes at room temperature and underwent DNA extraction using the Tiangen genomic DNA extraction kit based on the manufacturer’s protocols (TIANGEN Biotech
We conducted 0.8% agarose gel electrophoresis to assess DNA integrity and visualized the resulting DNA bands using a gel imaging apparatus
Each sample’s DNA concentration and quality were determined using a Nanodrop Spectrophotometer (ND-2000
Samples with DNA concentrations above 50 μg/μl were then sent to Wuhan Frasergen Bioinformatics Co
Ltd in China for whole-genome sequencing (WGS)
The VAHTS Universal DNA Library Prep Kit for MGI (Vazyme
China) was employed to generate sequencing libraries of each sample
targeting fragments of approximately 500 bp in length using one microgram of DNA as input material
Adapter sequences were ligated to each sample
Library size and quantification were assessed using Qubit 3.0 Fluorometers and Bioanalyzer 2100 systems (Agilent Technologies
the sequencing process was conducted by Frasergen Bioinformatics Co.
resulting in a 150 bp sequence length for each sample
The pipeline follows GATK’s best practice protocol for germline short variant discovery
Boxplot presentation of 70 Ethiopian cattle sequencing yield
The quality control metrics from FastQC analysis of 70 cattle sequences
The metrics from all FASTQ files are consolidated using the MultiQC package
99.2% of the reads were successfully mapped to the Bos taurus (ARS-UCD1.2) reference genome (Supplementary file 2)
It suggests that most reads were mapped correctly to their corresponding genomic locations
Data analyses were primarily conducted using standard bioinformatics tools on the Linux operating system. We provide detailed information about the versions and code parameters of the software tools used at https://github.com/WondossenA/WGS_Ethiopian_cattle/blob/main/code_explanation.md

What is the American Legislative Exchange Council
There seems to be a lot of misunderstanding surrounding ALEC these days – both what it is and what it isn’t
ALEC is America’s largest voluntary membership organization of state legislators
guided by the non-partisan principles of limited government
ALEC is not a place where laws are enacted in secret
While false stories of policy being agreed to surreptitiously are nothing new
sources and political alignment of almost everything they read
The New Republic and The Guardian published false claims that ALEC approved a model policy called the Energy Discrimination Elimination Act (EDEA)
The stories allege that ALEC wrote the model policy and is now working behind the scenes to advance similar legislation in state capitols around the country
The Energy Discrimination Elimination Act (EDEA) –which addresses state government contracting and agreements with financial service companies who choose not to do business with energy companies– has not been approved as model policy
Although it was considered in two of our Task Forces
it is still being debated and discussed among our members as a part of our deliberative process
This is the way ALEC operates—in the open and transparently
Model policies can only be submitted or proposed by ALEC’s public sector members
A state legislator and ALEC member submitted the EDEA as a draft model policy in 2021
After the draft worked its way through our member debate and approval process
it failed to become an official ALEC model policy
and was returned to the Task Forces for additional consideration
A common “gotcha” line in news articles about ALEC and EDEA is that it is no longer posted on our website
The explanation for this is simple: ALEC posts draft model policies on our website before our major meetings
Policies that are approved become “official” on our website
While it is well within the rights of our country’s free press to link to archived versions of draft model policies that have been removed
it is inaccurate to portray these as approved ALEC policies that we surreptitiously “push” to legislators around the country
and Louisiana – some of the top energy-producing states in the nation – introduced versions of EDEA in what they view as an effort to protect major industries in their states
This is a predictable action of legislators doing what they believe to be in the best interests of their constituents
Another oft-repeated but never sourced allegation is that ALEC has a history of extreme denial of climate issues. In reality, ALEC is dedicated to education and discussion about the environmental issues facing our states (see last year’s official ALEC model Resolution on Environmental and Economic Stewardship)
one of the most popular topics of discussion at our last meeting was about what state legislators can do to promote and enforce good environmental stewardship to reduce wildfires
which are among the top producers of greenhouse gasses and particulate matter in the country
While EDEA did not become an official ALEC model policy in 2021
discussions may continue this year among members who fall on all sides of the issue
legislators representing views across the entire political spectrum were in attendance at the last ALEC meeting in San Diego
to suggest amendments or argue against or in favor of the EDEA—or any other proposed policy for that matter
As a nonpartisan organization dedicated to advancing deliberation and debate amongst our state elected leaders
we welcome members of all stripes partake in this process
and the best ideas—the ideas vetted and amended through debate that support limited government
individual liberty and federalism principles–become ALEC model policies
It is why ALEC models become law with incredible frequency
and it is also why so many target ALEC with uneducated attacks aimed at confusing the public about our work
It is difficult – and perhaps even impossible – to overstate the relationship between readily available access to safe
affordable and reliable energy and individual prosperity and economic wellbeing
This is because energy is an input to virtually everything we produce
Cameroon Wildlife Conservation Society (CWCS)
Within this ecoregion sits the Douala-Edea Wildlife Reserve
created in 1932 and recently identified as one of the most important conservation landscapes in Central Africa
The reserve’s forests are home to several threatened primates including the Central Chimpanzee and Gabon Black Colobus Monkey
while also serving as a refuge for a small population of African Forest Elephants
The reserve’s labyrinth wetlands and marine habitats are a haven for birdlife and threatened marine species such as the West African Manatee and Atlantic Humpback Dolphin
the Green and Olive Ridley Sea Turtles all nest on the reserve’s beaches and the Critically Endangered Hawksbill Sea Turtle occur offshore
Despite this area’s high biodiversity value
much of it still remains unprotected and threatened by growing resource pressure from neighboring towns
Rainforest Trust is working with local partner Cameroon Wildlife Conservation Society (CWCS) to elevate the protected status of the 395,200-acre Douala-Edea Wildlife Reserve to a national park while expanding it with an additional 98,800 acres of mangrove forests
rivers and wetlands along with 247,000 acres of marine habitat
this designation as a national park along with the area’s overall expansion will comprehensively safeguard a total of 741,000 acres of coastal forest
protecting both the integrity and connectivity of this amazingly diverse ecosystem
Mangroves within the Douala-Edea Wildlife Reserve
Douala-Edea’s wildlife is highly threatened from habitat degradation and pressures put on the area from a growing and rapidly urbanizing population
Access to the area by water and road from nearby cities has resulted in unsustainable poaching
petroleum exploration and the massive cutting of mangrove forests for fish smoking
A lack of manpower makes it difficult for poorly-equipped rangers to effectively patrol or enforce the protected area
elephant populations in Douala-Edea have declined since 1998 while manatees are hunted and trapped in fishing nets
Without a concerted effort to expand protection and manage this area
Rainforest Trust is working with local partner
to elevate the protected status of Douala-Edea Wildlife Reserve to a national park while increasing the reserve by 375,303 acres of mangrove forests
this expansion and conversion to a national park will actively safeguard a total of 741,000 acres
Local partner CWCS will work to preserve the ecological integrity and connectivity of Douala-Edea’s habitats in three ways
the monitoring and enforcement of the reserve will be strengthened by hiring and training rangers
building five strategically placed ranger stations
CWCS will establish the national park with the involvement of surrounding communities
communication platforms will be established to encourage dialogue between the park’s services
local communities and other key stakeholders
The new national park status and expansion of Douala-Edea Wildlife Reserve will be a huge win for Cameroon’s wildlife
serving as an important new piece in a larger network of protected areas along the Atlantic coast of Cameroon
Together with a series of connected protected areas spanning from the Niger Delta in the North to Equatorial Guinea in the South
a vast series of connected parks and preserves will finally come into place for the Atlantic Equatorial coastal forest
providing trans-boundary protection for the region’s rich wildlife
Our partners’ ability to work with their governments and build strong connections with local communities ensures the successful implementation of our projects

When I played Final Fantasy XVI, I wrote in my review that Anabella may be the worst mother in the history of the Final Fantasy series
this made me think: who got stuck with some unfortunate maternal care in each game
so you'll either find yourself with a terrible mother
I will make another article that focuses on the worst fathers
let's work on finding out who has the worst mother
To kickstart this list, we'll be starting with Queen Jayne, the mother of Princess Sarah in FINAL FANTASY
It's a lot more difficult to judge the characters from the earlier games
but Queen Jayne isn't exactly a good mother
she just wallows in a depression and locks herself in her room when Garland kidnaps Princess Sarah
she doesn't do much to save her - although she gets a pass
and most of the mums were relegated to having died in childbirth
I want to add Edea here for the simple fact that she is the matronly figure to most of the orphans in the game
I can't say anything bad about Edea because
The only reason she's here is because you'll have to fight her
most of the mothers who turn to evil are pretty compelling
While Brahne wasn't always a power-hungry tyrant
it's more difficult to judge Brahne as she
just got a really bad hand from the actual antagonists
we can't say that Jecht is the only problem Tidus has
but at least we know that he loved his son
He would have to tell his wife to go to Tidus when he was crying
She would ignore her son when Jecht was around
she doesn't even consider living on for Tidus
Tidus has a really bad time when it comes to having good parents
Look, you could say that Jenova is the worst mother in FINAL FANTASY VII
Lucrecia Crescent is the worst mother because 1) she and her husband decide to experiment on their baby son while he's still in the womb
which should have already been a recipe for disaster
3) She could have just not agreed to the experiment on her son
and a lot of the stuff Cloud and the others had to deal with could have just been avoided
And don't get me started on her relationship with Vincent
I'm not gonna lie; I thought there may have been a worse mother somewhere
which leads to the death of her husband and the presumed death of her youngest son
she gets him branded and makes him a slave for the Imperial Army
and her youngest son is just fully Akashic
there aren't that many bad mothers in Final Fantasy
the main issue is that they're either not developed enough or dead
You likely won't see many great mothers in the series
but these are definitely the ones who leave an impression
Writing about all sorts like a liquorice allsort

EDEA Energy has announced it has executed an exclusive supply agreement with Tomago (NSW) based lithium-ion battery technology and manufacturing company Energy Renaissance
The agreement is for the manufacture of wholly Sovereign Australian lithium-ion battery solutions for use in Defence Mobility applications
The applications include the EDEA 6T NATO Certified SilentWatch battery developed for testing in the Hanwha Redback IFV
“EDEA can now confidently supply the Australian Defence Force and Primes with 100% Sovereign Australian energy storage solutions -- from cell processing to battery manufacturing
This eliminates foreign security and supply chain risk and removes FX and quality uncertainty”
“It also opens the door for more collaboration beyond the 6T NATO SilentWatch battery,” Tipping stated
Energy Renaissance added “Importantly
the battery management system (BMS) that controls the SilentWatch battery is 100% Australian -- both software and chipset
It’s been created by CSIRO to be the world’s most advanced BMS; hyper-accurate and cyber-secure
We believe sovereign control and security is critical for grid-connected batteries and defence applications.”
Hanwha Defense Australia (HDA) announced that it would test locally developed battery solutions in the Redback infantry fighting vehicle
providing greater optionality to power the armoured vehicle
“We are excited to work with EDEA Energy to explore the opportunity concerning Australian-made batteries in armoured vehicles,” Richard Cho
managing director of Hanwha Defense Australia
“The potential for gains in sovereign capability in crucial components is significant
I have a big aspiration to support retaining the manufacturing capability in Australia
which can combat the global supply chain issue due to the pandemic or another crisis
We can help them further expand its applications to other area beyond defence within the broader Hanwha group,” Cho stated
The EDEA SilentWatch battery also has significant export potential

sustainable future for both wildlife and people
Douala-Edéa faces great pressures: extensive areas of mangroves have been lost due to rapidly growing demand for wild foods
plantations and settlements; whilst illegal poaching
overfishing and unsustainable fishing practices are diminishing wildlife populations and compromising food security among local communities.
The Douala-Edéa coastal ecosystem – which includes mangroves
rivers and freshwater lakes south of Cameroon’s second largest city
Douala – remains one of the last opportunities to conserve a large expanse of African coastal wildlands and wild waters
rays and West African manatees still find refuge in this unique mosaic of habitats
They are also an important nursery area for a variety of fish and crustaceans
providing the basis for productive fisheries that local people depend upon for food security.
More than 10,000 people in over 40 villages and settlements live in this landscape
comprised of indigenous coastal and riparian ethnic groups
plantation workers and other economic migrants from elsewhere in Cameroon and West Africa
caused in part by the decline in artisanal fisheries on which they largely depend
They have no access to financial support services and the erosion of community self-support networks exacerbates the issue.
Some of this wild landscape is formally protected including the 2,629km2 Douala-Edéa National Park and the smaller
The Douala-Edéa National Park was upgraded from Wildlife Reserve status in 2018
during which it doubled in size and it now includes 300km2 of previously unprotected mangroves
In partnership with the Conservation Service and local NGOs
we’ve been working in this landscape since 2014
initially in the Lake Ossa Wildlife Reserve to pilot initiatives that engage local communities in the co-management of the reserve and its resources
More recently we have expanded our work to the Douala-Edéa National Park
specifically Lake Tissongo (another important site for manatees) and the mangrove areas around Siossio which are key for fish species
Creating strong sustainable community associations
using the Village Savings and Loans Association (VSLA) approach
which provides locally appropriate access to financial services
All funds are retained within the community
building social capital and providing a platform to engage the broader community in resource management
35 VSLAs have been established so far in the Douala-Edéa Landscape (Lake Ossa Wildlife Reserve and Douala-Edéa National Park)
with a total of 932 members (591 women and 341 men) and total savings of £55,000 so far.
Developing conservation incentives for fisher communities such as collection and recycling of old and discarded fishing nets
The nets are sold and exported to generate income for these communities
The income from this programme is managed through the VSLAs
benefitting the communities whilst reducing plastic pollution in aquatic ecosystems
Over 11 tonnes of discarded fishing nets have been removed from the Lake Ossa Wildlife Reserve and Douala-Edéa National Park so far.
Developing fisheries management plans to regulate practices in the Reserves
A plan has been agreed with all Lake Ossa communities
which sets aside 6.5% of the lake as no-take zones to protect important sites for fish and manatees
These will also be developed with communities in Lake Tissongo and Siossio.
Carrying out biodiversity surveys in the marine and freshwater systems to determine important sites for the protection of critical aquatic species such as manatees
and monitor the impact of existing no-take zones in Lake Ossa on fish and manatee populations
Protecting threatened species from overexploitation and hunting by strengthening management capacity and law enforcement patrols in Protected Areas.
Halting both habitat loss and overexploitation of fisheries
through co-management plans and mechanisms
Six tree nurseries have been established in Lake Ossa
providing trees and plants to restore 21.5ha of lake shore
helping to prevent erosion and pollution of the lake
Supporting the upgrading of Douala-Edéa Wildlife Reserve to National Park status and the gazettement of the Lake Ossa Wildlife Reserve.
Engaging with the private sector eg palm oil industry, to reduce their impact on the Reserves through our SPOTT platform

(Business in Cameroon) - The Minister of small and medium enterprises (Minpmeesa) Achille Bassilekin III recently published a list of 12 projects eligible for the state’s XAF100 million grant.
The said projects were submitted by companies incubated by the Edea National Pilot Business Incubator (PNPE)
a state institution created to offer training and assistance to entrepreneurs.
The grants to be obtained by the projects range between XAF5 and 12 million and the sectors covered are agribusiness
and leather industry. To get the grants released to them
the selected initiators of the selected projects must first sign contracts detailing how the funds will be used and the monitoring schemes in place to oversee the management
the 12 projects are being funded based on a feasible and bankable business plan
The requirements for participation were namely to be an SME or startup in its early stage (less than five years old) operating in the ICT (E-commerce
pastry) or textiles and leather sectors.
the PNPE is a government initiative launched in 2019 as a platform facilitating innovation and creativity while offering assistance for business development. Its assistance missions are geared towards both business creation and the development of existing companies.
The first is a training division in charge of the training offered to project holders or companies wishing to expand their activities. The second section is a business incubator that supports the maturation of startup creation projects while the third is a business incubator dedicated to companies about to launch their activities
The fourth section is the formalities section for company creation procedures.
(Business in Cameroon) - An inter-ministerial delegation led by the Ministry of Industry
just visited the former Cellucam site in Edea
in the coastal region for proceedings currently underway to restart the tech-centre project started by the Italian company
Following this site visit and a working session
sources assert that the inter-ministerial delegation requested an audit of the Edea Tech Company which was created within the framework of this project and also asked that a feasibility study be carried out
which was created in 2008 following a joint-venture between the State of Cameroon (35%) and the Italian company
Comifin (65%) has a mandate to rehabilitate the site (36 hectares) and the equipment of the now closed Cellucam in Edea in order to create a tech-centre
The tech-centre must comprise SMEs in the energy production (biomass)
automobile maintenance and engine rental as well as a training centre for lumber-related professions
Cameroon Water Utilities (Camwater) will proceed to the acceptance of construction works for the rehabilitation
and strengthening of the water supply system in Bertoua
the water utility took delivery of similar construction work in Edea
the regional capital of the Littoral region
The two projects were implemented by Spanish multinational Btd
whose regional director for Africa is since December 21
the projects in Bertoua and Edea required a XAF27.3 billion investment
They will boost drinking water production capacity by 56% in Bertaou and 88% in Edea
storage capacities will rise by 444% and 500% respectively
94 kilometers of hydraulic hoses were installed in Edea and 137 kilometers in Bertoua
the works will substantially improve water supply in the two cities concerned therefore facilitating access to the basic necessity for some 235,000 residents (about 110,000 in Edea and 125,000 in Bertoua)
The Bertoua and Edea projects are components of a larger project aimed at improving water supply in Yaoundé and three secondary towns (Bertoua
it is funded by the French Development Agency and the European Investment Bank
After delivering the Edea and Bertoua projects
Btd hopes it will land a deal for the Yaoundé component
it is in pole position in the related contract awarding process.
(Business in Cameroon) - Cameroon has progressed in its project for the creation of special economic zones in the country to boost wood processing
two sites have already been confirmed and a financial and technical partner has been identified for the project
The two sites are notably Edea in the Littoral and Bertoua in the Eastern region while the technical and financial partner is the African Finance Corporation (AFC)
“The actions fall within the framework of commitments made by CEMAC countries to approve the ban of raw timber exports by January 2023,” the ministry explains
the partner selected by the Cameroonian government
is a regional development finance institution created in 2007
With the African Development Bank (AfDB) as one of its major shareholders
the institution’s goal is to address the financing gap in the infrastructure and industrial sectors that are considered underfunded on the African continent
Should the involved parties agree on various mechanisms
Edea and Bertoua's special economic zones will be the first in Cameroon
According to the presidential decree signed on April 17
a special economic zone is one or more geographic areas developed and equipped with infrastructures to allow firms installed in that zone to operate under optimal conditions
and commercial areas as well as free trade zones
To create a special economic zone in Cameroon
the project carrier must first collaborate with concerned administrations to identify free lands able to host the firms
the applicant will have to prove its financial capabilities and thereafter demonstrate that at least five firms are interested in settling in the economic zone.
(Business in Cameroon) - Oil products distribution company SEDECAM S.A plans to build an LPG filling plant in Edea
This is revealed in the release published by the Ministry of Environment
and Sustainable Development (MINEPDED) to announce the March 1-6
2021 public hearing in preparation for an environmental impact assessment
SEDECAM S.A is the distributor of domestic gas brand Glocal Gaz
It is the subsidiary of Moroccan group Akwa Group
which bought (in 2018) the Glocal Gaz brand from Dane Kosan Crisplant that was operating in Cameroon since the early 2000s
The LPG filling plant it plans to build will be the second infrastructure of that type it is building in Cameroon
in the Anglophone south-western region
The investment (whose amount has not been disclosed yet)
will boost SEDECAM’s capacities and likely its presence in the Cameroonian market dominated by competitors such as SCTM and Total
(Business in Cameroon) - Authorized sources at Cameroon’s ministry of water and energy (MINEE) indicates that negotiations are ongoing between the government and Bouygues
for the construction of a power transmission line between Edea
There is also a project for the reinforcement and consolidation of the electrical network in Douala
All the detailed pre-project studies on environmental and social impacts are completed. The setting of a technical department is ongoing
pending the conclusion of negotiations for a financing agreement
