Lazio winger Loum Tchaouna was substituted off after being subjected to alleged “monkey noises” against Twente in the Europa League
the Italian club’s head coach Marco Baroni has said
The 21-year-old Tchaouna was substituted in the 89th minute of Lazio’s two-goal victory at Twente
with Baroni saying that he was “not in the right mindset” to continue after hearing the reported racist chant
Lazio were originally planning to take off Pedro for Mario Gila in the closing stages of the match, but Baroni said he instead withdrew the France Under-21 international after he became “obviously upset” after the incident

“I think he heard some monkey noises and was obviously upset
I tried to reassure him,” Baroni told Sky Sports Italia
“The fourth official recognised the situation
but I saw Tchaouna was not in the right mindset to remain on the pitch and allowed me to change the substitution.”
The Athletic has contacted UEFA for comment
UEFA fined Lazio €45,000 (£36,660) and mandated the partial closure of Stadio Olimpico (sectors 48 and 49 of the Curva Nord) for one home match in UEFA competitions
This action follows charges of “racist and/or discriminatory behaviour” during Lazio’s 4-1 victory over Nice in the Europa League on October 3
The partial stadium closure was suspended for a probationary period of one year
Lazio are next in action with a home Serie A clash against Genoa on Sunday
It has been a breakout year for Loum Tchaouna
Having left Chad for France at a young age
and Strasbourg before joining Rennes’ academy in 2014
where he would develop across the next eight years and become a France youth international at the U16
He made his Ligue 1 debut in a 1-1 draw vs
whilst also making a name for himself in the Europa Conference League
who signed him on loan for the 2022/23 season
Whilst he was unable to prevent them from dropping down to the third tier
he nevertheless got his first real taste of consistent minutes at the senior level
Leopards Don’t Change Their Spots – The Tumultuous Battle for Maurizio Sarri at Lazio
Tchaouana didn’t stick around long at Brittany and instead chose to depart his boyhood club
joining Salernitana on deadline day for a fee of €3 million
Playing outside of France for the first time in his career
he took to Italian football like a duck to water and made 33 appearances in Serie A
he has been shifted across the front four and has impressed with his versatile skill set and efficiency in attack
winning just two matches and going through four managers
but Tchaouna nevertheless impressed in his debut campaign in Italy and scored three minutes into the second half to give them a priceless victory against Hellas Verona on December 30
it would be their last victory of the Serie A season
It was apparent that he wouldn’t be sticking around in Italy’s second tier
Tchaouna has taken his talents to the Italian capital and joined Lazio on a five-year deal that will see him earn €1 million + bonuses per season
The Biancocelesti paid his €8 million release clause to bring him to Rome
tying down the 20-year-old to a long-term deal
Nuno Tavares’ Ascent to Arsenal
Lazio have commenced a major rebuild at the Stadio Olimpico
parting ways with veteran stars like Felipe Anderson
They have appointed Marco Baroni as their new manager
they’ve brought in Gaetano Castrovilli and Gabriele Artistico on free transfers
added Nuno Tavares and Fisayo Dele-Bashiru on loan
and reunited Baroni with former player Tijjani Noslin
they have acquired the services of a promising
versatile forward who should help inject some much-needed unpredictability into their attacking setup
His unofficial debut saw him score a hat-trick in a 23-0 victory against CS Auronzo
before playing the first 45 minutes in their 3-1 win vs
He’s already honed his skills and made the adjustment to Serie A
he has the opportunity to showcase his unique attributes for one of the biggest teams in Italy

Fabrizio Romano reports that Lazio have agreed to personal terms with PSV to send Loum Tchaouna (21) to the Dutch side for the remainder of the campaign with an option to buy

Loum served as the Director General (DG) of the Department of Strategic Policy and Delivery (DSPD) before becoming permanent secretary at the Ministry of Public Service
he played a pivotal role in coordinating government flagship Programmes and significantly contributing to the monitoring
and reporting on key government development priorities and projects
In his new capacity as Deputy Chief of Staff
Loum will continue to oversee the Department of Strategic Policy and Delivery
He will also assume responsibilities that include: Tracking and reporting on the status of National Government Priorities
providing practical interventions to address challenges within government projects and programmes
He will be conducting independent assessments to ensure the accurate status of ongoing government projects
raising awareness about the progress and achievements of national government priorities through digital and print media and assisting in Cabinet proceedings alongside the Secretary to the Cabinet and Head of the Civil Service
Loum said: “It is all about trust and confidence President Adama Barrow bestowed on me and I promise to deliver as expected.”
Baroni said he was preparing to substitute Pedro but decided to take off Tchaouna after being unable to calm the winger, who joined Lazio from Salernitana in July
Unfortunately I confirm that the player perceived this," Baroni told Sky Sport Italia
"It's a subject I don't want to expound on now
we tried to calm him down and then I substituted him because he was no longer in the emotional condition to continue
But I think the fourth official saw what happened."
UEFA did not immediately respond to a request for comment from Reuters about the abuse of Tchaouna sent outside normal business hours
Lazio are one of a string of clubs sanctioned by UEFA for the racist behaviour of their supporters in European competition this season
The Serie A club were fined 45,000 euros ($49,230) and will be forced to close two sections of their stadium for their next Europa League home game

The soles of Neukölln have gotten significantly brighter thanks to the new sneaker refurbishment and customisation shop Jiika Styles
A new shop is out to help you get your kicks
French-Senegalese Berliner Jean Loum opened Jiika Styles in Neukölln’s Reuterkiez
a store specialising in sneaker refurbishing and customisation
Think of Loum as a kind of fairy godfather of shoes: with a flick of his wrist
beaten-up trainers and heels and turn them into a work of art
airbrushing and other tools to bring his creations to life
who was born in Paris and lived in both Bordeaux and Senegal
A pair of heels decorated with the traditional French Fleur de Mariage pattern and white Nikes hand-painted with vibrant West African prints are perched in the shop windowsill
This eye candy is probably one of the reasons the store averages seven to eight walk-ins a day
Since opening the store just six months after being laid off from his day job as a dating app fraud specialist
I never knew I had something artistic in me,” Loum says
He got into the shoe game in 2019 as a side hustle
“I started with sneakers because that’s what I love
But I figured out that I could do more than shoes
My goal is to create everything from head to toe
Everything handmade.” Loum now also makes clothes
it became clear to me that I could make a living out of this.”
A customisation will run you upwards of €80
a unique process that Loum compares to tattoo design: the more detailed and time intensive
A deep clean with no custom design is typically €25-50
a deal that will appeal to both the budget- and eco-conscious
Take those old soles out of the ‘zu Verschenken’ box and let Loum give them a colourful second life

A promising Lazio attacker could leave Italy to sign with PSG
which closely monitors the evolution of the young French talent
the player signed last summer by the Roman team for €10 million has caught the attention of the Parisian club
which would be willing to pay up to €30 million to add him to their squad
some consider such a significant investment in a player who has not yet solidified his performance to be risky
but his impact on the team is still far from decisive
His ability to break through in the final third and his attacking association skills have been highlighted
but consistency is something he still needs to develop
his profile aligns with PSG's strategy of betting on young players with great potential
the possibility of a million-dollar sale in such a short time is being carefully evaluated
An operation that would triple the initial investment could be key to strengthening other areas of the squad
although there is also the risk of losing a player who could thrive in the future
and the Parisian club could leverage its financial muscle to seal the deal before other teams join the bidding
and the coming weeks could be decisive for his career
the attacker remains focused on proving his worth at Lazio
aware that a move to PSG would be a unique opportunity but also a major challenge to establish himself in the elite

Toronto Metropolitan University's Independent Student Newspaper Since 1967
The Toronto Metropolitan University (TMU) Bold women’s soccer team lost 3-0 against the Queens Gaels in a physical and tumultuous game at Downsview Park on Saturday afternoon.
After kicking off the season with a 3-0 victory over the Trent Excalibur on Friday, the Bold faced a strong and organized side. Queens, who finished second in the Ontario University Athletics (OUA) East division last season, started the 2024-2025 season with a stomping 4-0 victory over the Ontario Tech Ridgebacks on Friday afternoon. They kept rolling on Saturday.
“Over the years we took Queens as an easy loss,” said second-year defender Vanessa Pianta. “So this year coming off a result with less goals was a testament of the team we have this year.”
The Bold came out to the pitch with a 4-3-3 formation, displaying third-year midifielder Jazz Dev and first-year midfielder Natalie Moynihan as double pivots. In her first start for the Bold, first-year midfielder Mera Saleh took on a more attacking position up the pitch with a number 10 role.
During the first 30 minutes of the game, both teams didn’t harm each other. As they attempted to drive the ball to the final third of the pitch but both lines of defence were very strong and did not allow any progression.
Pianta commanded the Bold’s defence and allowed them to maintain the score 0-0 up to that point.
“Every game before we step on the field, we tell each other to play for the people beside us,” said Pianta. “Especially wearing the [captain’s armband] it’s just a little bit more pressure to play.”
Queens quick foot movement posed some threat to the Bold and in the last 10 minutes of the half, the Gaels dominated the game.
In the 39th minute, the constant pressure from the Gaels finally broke the Bold. Third-year midfielder Lily Goss, from a set piece, assisted with a low driven pass to third-year midfielder Seema Sakran. The attacker found the ball in a perfect position to smash it into the top right corner, leaving second-year goalie Elisa Paolucci with nothing else to do but watch the ball go in.
The Bold reacted instantly to the goal and didn’t hold back to attack the final third of the pitch. In the 43rd minute, the referee called a handball from Queens third-year defender Clare Sun inside the box and conceded a penalty.
Moynihan stepped to the penalty spot and shot to the left hand side of the goal. Fifth-year goalie Kirstin Tynan read the shot perfectly and saved the penalty to send the game to halftime with the Gaels ahead 1-0.
“With the first goal, we were still in it and we were ready to get back in their half and try to score,” said Dev. “But then they got another one.”
The Bold tried keeping the momentum afloat after half time. Nonetheless, after 20 minutes of a solid display from TMU, the Gaels found gaps and mistakes in the Bold’s defence. Second-year forward Lily Coish, found some space just outside the box and sent in a curve shot that hit the far post and past the goal line.
With the second goal, TMU’s morale started to crumble and in the 69th minute, the Gaels finished the job.
After a misplaced pass by fourth-year defender Tierra Bennet to the goalie, Gaels first-year midfielder Sam Caputo grabbed the ball and brought it around Paolucci. With no goalie protecting the net, Third-year forward Morgan Fenton received the ball and after evading her mark, the Grimsby, Ont. produced, tapping in the ball to make it 3-0.
“That third one really brought us down,” said Dev.
When the game only had five more minutes of regular time, Bennet disputed a ball with third-year midfielder Kendra Couto and went to the ground on her right shoulder. After recovering, she was subbed off with a bandage surrounding her entire arm and back.
The players still finished the game with chins up knowing Queens is a tough matchup.
“We had pretty high expectations because energy-wise, our girls were ready to go,” said Dev. “I’m still proud of the girls because we [fought] to the last minute.”
The team now looks to improve their form before the next game against the University of Toronto Varsity Blues and continue to remember that “winning mentality.”
“It’s going to be a good game, you know?” said Pianta. “It’s our rival team, rival school.”
UP NEXT: The Bold will play against across-town rivals, the University of Toronto Varsity Blues on Friday, Sept. 6 at Varsity Stadium. Kick-off is set for 6:00 p.m.

The lauded interior designer discusses life in Marrakech following the release of her book dedicated to the city
Meryanne Loum-Martin first visited Marrakech
Morocco in 1985 seeking a suitable place for her parents to build a vacation home
Fast-forward three decades and Loum-Martin is a successful hotelier and lauded interior designer
Inside Marrakesh: Enchanting Homes and Gardens is a chic coffee table tome that gives a peek behind the keyhole of the exceptional homes of the city’s luminaries and tastemakers
She describes the vibrant city as “a place where my love for style
architecture and bohemian cosmopolitan social life have been fulfilled.”
She left Paris (and a law career) behind to make Marrakech her home in 1996
Jnane Tamsna (which she describes as “a blissful oasis with amazing guests
The boutique hotel can be found at the edge of the city in the Palmeraie
an ancient forest of several hundred thousand palm trees
which are spread over five Moorish-style houses
and the sumptuous interiors encapsulate Loum-Martin’s luxe boho style
She insists that “the gardens are just as important as the architecture and the interiors,” which is hardly surprising
as Jnane Tamsna translates to “big garden.” Her husband tends to the ever-changing
a scenic spot for dinner and Loum-Martin’s choice dish: “I like fusion food that we make
Morocco has a delicious eggplant preparation called zaalouk
I add some spices and chilli to it and mix with al dente tagliatelle
It makes a very unique all’arrabbiata and is full of Moroccan flavors.”

Loum-Martin can often be found wandering around the old market and the flea market searching for one-of-a-kind piecesbefore having sunset drinks at La Mamounia

but she likes to go her own way: “I love to ignore the ‘direction of visit’ sign at the Dar Si Said Museum and instead go and bathe in the beauty of the perfect Arab architecture; in the courtyard
“I love the YSL Museum and how Saint Laurent paid tribute to the culture and sources of his inspiration
There is so much cultural appropriation by designers
The Majorelle Foundation is doing amazing work to support education
She says dressing elegantly when out and about is important

“Taking good care of yourself doesn’t need to be another thing that stresses you out or takes too much time,” says Oz

It’s funny that given stress is at the root of nearly all the issues women claim most challenge and disrupt their skin’s appearance, no skincare line to-date has focused exclusively on tackling the specific pathways of how stress shows up on skin. I love that our masks, for instance the Renew and Brighten Polishing Minifacial
I need something that’s effective and fast-acting but gentle

The biggest change I feel from Florida life is that the air is so lovely and humid so I don’t need to over-hydrate like I do up north. I am reminded to wear sunscreen more regularly down here

It can be an interesting and beautiful thing in life that we rarely end up where we imagined
And often it is the challenges along the way that propel us to discover the unique things about ourselves that up until that point we might have envisioned as setbacks or disadvantages
Those very things might be the key to our callings or our greatest joys
For lawyer turned boutique hotelier MeryAnne Loum-Martin it was the challenge of taking the French bar exam five years after law school
that helped her to discover that her uniqueness mattered
With only two months to study years of material while competing against young students fresh from the right preparatory classes
MeryAnne knew she needed a special approach
It was then that she had a light bulb moment about the value in her unique roots
The multi-ethnic and traditional diversity of her background held strength and riches the world deserved to recognize and appreciate
Loum-Martin owns and runs the eight-acre boutique hotel Jnane Tamsna in Marrakech
five swimming pools and a clay surface tennis court
Jnane Tamsna is the only black female owned boutique hotel in Morocco
Loum-Martin’s clientele has included the likes of movie stars Brad Pitt and Tom Cruise
and designers Giorgio Armani and Donna Karen
But the woman behind it all has a story fit for a movie herself.
Born in Cote’ D’Ivoire to a Senegalese diplomat father and West Indian lawyer mother
Loum-Martin spent her early childhood in Cote D’Ivoire
London and Moscow before settling in Paris for law studies and her early career as a young adult
“I had no chance of passing the exam because all the odds were against me
instead of memorizing like everyone else did I thought I’d have a chance of being the standout exam.” So she bought books on the philosophy of law and how to analyze the law
“I wanted to be able to analyze any topic of law by applying my other unique experiences so the examiner would think
‘Oh my God this person is different!’” Afterward
she realized the significance of that experience
“Being different was a way for me to succeed
I started to look at my difference as wealth
our varied cultural traditions are an incredible wealth
I decided that after understanding the western world’s idea of knowledge I needed to bring my own rich identity and ways of knowing on top of that
Loum-Martin has taken her rich global and African identity with her to encourage visitors and guests of Jnane Tamsna to experience the culture and traditions of Morocco
“My first degree was in Law but my heart was always in architecture
design and the arts.” She made the connection of hospitality with authentic cultural experiences while on a trip to India in 1984
she had the chance to meet and explore the country with the pioneer of Indian boutique hospitality
who played a role in starting the Heritage Hotels in India
someone connected to the history and the culture
As I was traveling alone Swaroop Singh graciously invited me to join him and his family.” She attributes her vocation today to that experience in India
“From my time with the Maharaja I realized
the strength of knowing old cultures and traditions and sharing the wisdom and heritage with others who may look down upon them for lack of understanding and exposure.”
Loum-Martin runs Jnane Tamsna in Marrakech with her husband
an ethnobotanist and founder of the Global Diversity Foundation
The couple has created a serene and fertile environment
olive trees and a wide variety of plants and herbs
Most of the food served on the premises is grown in the gardens
is a documentary filmmaker and their son Edward created and runs The Global Migrants Project
a nonprofit that promotes respect for human rights and creates opportunities for sub-Saharan migrants stranded in North Africa
“People meet me and always ask me how I did all this
Everything that enables people to move ahead in life begins with their ability to imagine something different
I was with older children and they were asked
‘What are you going to do when you are older?’ Even then I knew that I would be selling ideas
Material things don’t always mean that you have succeeded
there’s no limit and that’s why it is so crucial to make it available for everyone
Nothing should ever permit you from dreaming big.” Loum-Martin says that she especially wants women of color in Africa and in the world to know that all is possible
“We should be able to imagine seeing ourselves in situations and places
and engaging with people and experiences for which we might have been made to believe we shouldn’t have access to.”
MeryAnne Loum-Martin is currently working with a New York publishing house on a book covering 30 years of style
architecture and designing gardens in Marrakech
“It makes a difference when a book like this is done by an insider
I want Jnane Tamsna to become the visible place of black excellence in North Africa.”

This new Loum Battlefield arc changes its focus away from Zeon’s children and instead covers more of the politics and build-up to one of the most famous battles in Gundam lore
we saw some of this battle in the first episode for Gundam: The Origin but the fifth and especially sixth episodes cover it in much more detail
it’s worth clarifying here that Gundam: The Origin is more of a parallel timeline to the original Mobile Suit Gundam
as characters and events play out quite a bit differently
but it is still fascinating to watch nonetheless
Again, seeing things like the Operation British colony drop up close is pretty heartbreaking
especially when you know that the people on the colony are going to be sacrificed by Zeon
'Gundam: The Origin' finishes where it started
The acting is really over the top when the characters are being humorous
with it often backfiring and coming off as a bit cheesy
While the voice acting is a bit over the top in places
the general quality of the acting is very well done
as many of the new actors are taking on iconic roles due to the previous actors having passed away
As with the prior Gundam: The Origin Blu-ray release
The picture and audio quality are topnotch and the English dub is not half bad either
Like with the other Gundam related releases from Right Stuf Anime
there aren’t really any extras to speak of but the fact we have these anime releases at all is something that counterbalances that
this is a fitting climax to the backstory of Gundam and fills in the holes with the lore behind the original series
If you are new to Gundam then it is worth a look but longtime fans will definitely get the most out of this
Gundam: The Origin - Loum Arc is currently released on Blu-ray and is available from Right Stuf Anime

Krallice’s other new record is the better of their two new records from 2017, but also comes with a unique problem. While Loum was a surprise release, it still ultimately gave roughly a year’s breathing room to Prelapsarian
allowing the changes and growths on display not only to render themselves recognizable more immediately than it would otherwise but also to not quash Prelapsarian’s own powers
Go Be Forgotten unfortunately inflicts both ills
overshadowing an otherwise fine progressive/black metal record in Loum while also rendering itself
to feel like it lives in comparison to Loum rather than being a work in and of itself
additional tunes from the session that were too good to toss but not good enough to make the record proper
we’ve lived in the world where most pop releases get a follow-up EP of session tracks that eventually gets bound with the store/venue-specific special edition tracks in a big deluxe edition rerelease about a year later
and despite the growing pains of that new model taking root
There’s even a kind of beauty in making the album less a static object and something more organic
The problem though is that Go Be Forgotten isn’t that
this is the more adventurous of the two records
which previously played a role in thickening the sound on Loum
take on a brightness here that reminds of the sci-fi progressive death metal of Nocturnus
they are allowed a full position in the mix
replete with the pad tones that ring out like columns of bright white light
and even a full-on prog-rock solo in the middle of the song
There’s even a successful trial run with synth and sound manipulation-led kosmische in the track to boot (take that
renders its release so close to Loum as frustrating as it is
but it effects both records; Loum is easier to write about
as one can just imagine Go Be Forgotten doesn’t exist yet
but that separation is harder to make as a listener knowing that scenario not to be true and the music of Go Be Forgotten to be better
unnameable bitterness toward Go Be Forgotten for overshadowing an otherwise fine record in Loum
relegating it to the status of “the other new Krallice record” in retrospect
The closeness of these releases also cuts into one of the key strengths of both albums and the five releases of this period of the band in general
that being their shorter runtimes and thus increased digestibility
Loum and Go Be Forgotten come to just about the length of one of their first four
but without the level of sonic cohesion that made those albums capable to eventually be internalized
and easily ranks as some of the best of their career
If only there had been more room to breath between records so that it might fully have its own identity apart from its twin

How hotelier Meryanne Loum-Martin created a home and hotel in Marrakech
t’s a cloudless April afternoon when Meryanne Loum-Martin greets me at the entrance of her boutique hotel, Jnane Tamsna
and a statement necklace made of several strands of pearls
“Would you like something to drink?” she asks
“We have fresh grapefruit juice from the garden.”
Little luxuries like this are what you can expect at Jnane Tamsna
a sanctuary that has 24 rooms spread across bright-yellow villas spread across nine acres of gardens containing date palms
and an abundance of organic fruits and vegetables
about a 20-minute drive north from the bustling Medina
amid thousands of palm trees and feels a world away from the rest of the city
Loum-Martin sensed the distinction immediately when she arrived in Marrakech in 1985 to search for a place for her parents to build a vacation home
you would have expected to see Moses floating by in a basket.”
The calm appealed instantly to Loum-Martin
a French-Senagalese lawyer-turned-hotelier who was born in Côte d’Ivoire to a Senegalese diplomat father and West Indian lawyer mother
and grew up in cities including London and Moscow before establishing roots in Paris
she began monthly trips from Paris to the city and now runs one of the lushest retreats in the Palmeraie
I didn’t come abroad to live in another big city,” she says
I wanted a garden before I even met a botanist.” Loum-Martin’s husband is Dr
an American ethnobotanist and the founder of the Global Diversity Foundation
The couple lives on the grounds of Jnane Tasmna
it comes across as a bohemian-chic hideaway for creatives and travelers
Its library holds hundreds of books and magazines
as well as furniture and paintings that each have a unique story of origin
and each contains rich colors and treasures from Loum-Martin’s travels
“There are places that are 10 times more luxurious than ours
but that doesn’t necessarily mean they have soul,” Loum-Martin says
There isn’t going to be a new manager in three years
But home isn’t necessarily a straightforward concept for some people
Loum-Martin is the first and only Black woman to own a hotel in Morocco
She thinks her nomadic upbringing is in part what attracted her to Marrakech
“A lot of people don’t want to live away from home and they have a stronger sense of belonging to a place than I did,” she says
“I had such a cosmopolitan and nomadic life
I don’t feel at all obliged or bound to be anywhere.”
Loum-Martin believes Marrakech is a place that many foreigners
particularly those without an identity tied to one place
“Where else in the world can you bring your own cultural heritage with its aesthetics and choices and slide it into the local style
which has such a strong personality in itself
… And yet the mix ends up feeling just as much like you as it does Marrakech.”
For a design-conscious creative and hotelier like Loum-Martin
“What I love here is the daily inspiration
You take it for granted like an old relationship
I was in the medina recently and it still felt magical.”
Loum-Martin admits she “had a sense” that Marrakech was for her before she ever stepped foot in Morocco
“It attracted creative people that I liked and admired,” she explains
“I remember thinking if Yves Saint-Laurent loves it
there must be a lot of things to love about it.”
the late fashion designer who adored Marrakech so much that his ashes are now scattered and buried in the city
famously credited it for breathing fresh air into his work
The transformation in Loum-Martin’s career is arguably even more dramatic
Hugh Jackman has visited Jnane Tamsna many times and Naomi Watts celebrated her 50th birthday there
“If someone had told me when I was a teenager
‘You will be in the hotel business one day,’ I would have laughed,” she says
“But I love doing this precisely because I didn’t go to school for this
I do it because it’s an opportunity to meet fantastic people and experience other cultures and share the beauty of Morocco.”
Loum-Martin and her husband are most passionate about sharing their love of their adopted country and the experience of living in the Palmeraie
She says the importance of authentic travel is something she’s been passionate about since booking a solo trip to India in 1984
she met the uncle of the Maharaja of Jodhpur and–well
“I need to start writing these things down,” Loum-Martin muses
“I feel like you have lived many lives,” I reply
Loum-Martin’s eyes sparkle mischievously as she laughs

Pape "Pops" Loum stood outside his modest gray Windsor Street home on Monday between a mob of young men and women
Loum’s home is just like any other in Area Four
where they find acceptance and are able to foster knowledge
"He just taught me about being a man and what that means
making your own decisions and that is a lifelong lesson,"Trinidad Ramkissoon
said Monday in between chatting with neighborhood friends
"I think that’s applicable to any situation that you can take with you moving forward."
all roads lead to "Pops." Ramkissoon was just one of many who grew up visiting the house
where Loum would teach them about technology
a safe house and a welcoming home for not just my children here
but for all of their brothers and their sisters who have the hunger for learning and actualizing the dream that preceding generations had," Loum said seconds before greeting and hugging a young man walking on Windsor Street
started working with children in the early 1980s at Camp Mah-Kee-Nac in Lenox where he served as a soccer coach and a translator for young kids from Canada
He was working with Just-A-Start Corporation
a nonprofit in Cambridge whose mission is to create opportunity and strengthen the community
that he first realized there was a need to help the community
"Mothers would ask to be accompanied to go and find kids at 2 and 3 o’clock in the morning," Loum said
that’s how I knew that the need existed in the community and I had to make myself available in the community."
started shopping for computers at Salvation Army and checking books out of the public library as soon as he realized that kids growing up in Area Four
and intelligent conversations that they started
led to suggesting some feelings of exploration that they might be interested in," Loum said
"They have a challenge of an environment that is not an easy one."
"I used to go to the Salvation Army down the street on Mass
"I would get some books from the library that would explain and describe what the different parts were so that they could not only know what these things were
but that they could learn to fix them and find value in all the discarded computers."
But Loum still has a dream to be fulfilled
He hopes to turn his humble house at 155-157 Windsor St
into a designated learning center for all children
He said he wants the young adults of Area Four
whom he watched over as they were growing up
and hopefully to have been a part of something positive in their lives that they can benefit from and return to the community from which they got it
Loum is much more than a teacher for the young men and women who grew up walking in and out of his home
"He’s just inspirational," said Tasheena Betts-Scott
He has always encouraged everybody to do better
Loum played an instrumental role when she was at a crossroads in her life
But I wasn’t really sure about my decision
and he helped me come to terms with my decision," Higgins said
"He made me realize that if it wasn’t the job that I wanted to do for the rest of my life
Higgins met Loum when she was just 12 years old and when her father died in 2008
"Just growing up and witnessing a person building a house and not waiting for someone to give it to him or feeling like someone else has the power
but understanding that he had the power," Ramkissoon said
"It helped me realize that I had the power (too)
in a way we got to grow together and that’s really cool."
Ramkissoon said Loum gave meaning to the famous Spanish phrase: "Mi casa es su casa," which means my house is your house
"There have been times that I was bored around the neighborhood and I didn’t want to go home
I didn’t want necessarily to be around anybody
but he always opened up his doors and he really gave meaning to that," Ramkissoon said
is watching the many children he helped raise become successful and graduate from college
He said they welcomed him into their lives and gave him the opportunity to be their father
"I’m looking forward to seeing them climb the highest mountains

The 25-year-old is the third central midfielder to join the Royals on loan this summer
Welcome to Reading, Mamadou Loum. The Royals have snapped up the 25-year-old midfielder on a season-long loan from Porto and reportedly have a €5m purchase option included in the deal
This move seems to have come about pretty quickly. Portuguese outlet Record reported on July 21 that Loum was heading for Berkshire, with Paul Ince saying after the Brighton game that he was hopeful a deal could be done before the season opener at Blackpool
Loum started out at hometown club US Ouakam before joining Portuguese side Braga in 2015
His four years there included around 70 appearances for Braga B
plus loan spells with Moreirense (the first half of 2018/19) and Porto (the second half of 2018/19)
Loum then signed for Porto on a permanent deal in the summer of 2019
instead having to spent last season on loan at La Liga side Deportivo Alaves
The 2021/22 campaign was ultimately a disappointing one for Alaves who
They finished bottom of La Liga and were therefore relegated to the second tier
It was however a productive one for loanee Loum
only missing most (four) of the remaining six matches due to international duty
So what will he bring to Reading’s midfield
Loum is a more combative and imposing option than the Royals’ other options
Tyrese Fornah is technically promising but has plenty of development to go through
Jeff Hendrick is better deployed as a more advanced midfielder and Sam Hutchinson is more likely to be used as a central defender
Loum’s physicality certainly stood out to Paul Ince, who told the media after the Brighton game:
“He’s 6ft 3in - a monster - and has played for FC Porto
played at the Nou Camp and Bernabeu so he can’t be a bad player
To get him and Sarr in means we’ll look a lot more stronger
It’s 46 games and we have to be a powerful side - like Luton last season
We lacked that at times last season but we are where we are
We can see Loum’s specific defensive strengths in these charts
interceptions and avoiding being dribbled past than he is at progressing the ball upfield through dribbles or passes

So he should add some muscle to Reading’s midfield and give others the cover to express themselves higher up the pitch
A key question though will be whether he’s better in a midfield pairing or as a sole holding player
given that the Royals have used both roles in pre-season (in a 3-4-3 and 3-5-2 respectively)
Present Life, a global beauty incubator from former Coty CEO Camillo Pane, is pioneering the plant-based beauty movement with the launch of their new in-house skincare brand, Loum Beauty of Calm
The new brand promises to reduce the effects of stress through skincare
With the slogan “where there is stress we will bring calm,” Loum Beauty of Calm’s mission is made clear: to reverse the negative effects of stress on the skin
According to Loum Beauty of Calm’s in-house
large scale study that examined the correlation between stress and beauty
75 percent of women believe stress affects their ability to see themselves as beautiful
68 percent of women say stress has a negative impact on how they feel about themselves
and 61 percent admitted to feeling less attractive all-around when stressed
The skincare brand says nothing like this had been done before and the results were overwhelming
Knowing how women felt about themselves when stressed only reaffirmed Loum Beauty of Calm’s mission to create skincare products that would actively help calm skin down while reversing signs of stress on the skin
psychodermatologists have been exploring the link between the mind and the skin
What you find is that stress and skin are hardwired because
our skin is the organ of our body most affected by stress
We researched which ingredients dial down the effects of stress across the pathways in skin,” shares Kat Bryce
In order to create their line of luxury clean beauty products
they partnered with psychodermatologist Francisco Tausk and together
they designed formulations that “invoke the science of calm to undo the effects of stress on our skin and our psyche.” All formulas were specifically created to combat the effects of stress on the skin
and given that the brand was created by plant-based incubator Present Life
each product is between 97 percent and 99 percent natural
the brand has a long “no” list of ingredients – 2,800 ingredients to be exact
They were wholly committed to creating skincare products free from anything toxic
their “yes” list is even more exciting and is primarily made up of three key ingredients: marine micro algae
the second fights oiliness and protects your skin from the sun
It is these three ingredients that comprise what the brand calls their Tri-Serene Complex
It is the brand’s attempt to create a holistic solution or antidote to what stress does to the skin
Further, creating ethical products was also top of mind for Loum Beauty of Calm. Thus, they worked exclusively with suppliers who are vegan
cruelty-free and only used conflict-free minerals in their formulas
Loum Beauty of Calm has also been certified by Leaping Bunny and the Vegan Society
Responsible sourcing and packaging is yet another part of Loum Beauty of Calm’s clean skincare mission
but they have plans to increase this number by 2021 by switching to airless pumps and post-consumer recycled plastic
all-natural ingredients in their products are sourced responsibly
Loum Beauty of Calm adheres to the Nagoya protocol
which is in place to protect biodiversity and avoid the depletion of critical resources
The newly launched clean beauty brand has taken it upon themselves to go above and beyond what is required of them
listing every single ingredient on their product labels
Loum Beauty of Calm’s collection currently consists of cleansers
of which there are three categories: dry & sensitive
There is also a skin quiz designed to help people figure out the different ways that stress is showing up in their skin and the products that can help them

According to Foot Mercato there has been no shortage of attention for Rennes winger Loum Tchaouna (18) from five different European clubs
La Liga side Cadiz are interested in a one-year loan deal (without an option to buy) but need to make room in their squad in order to recruit the 18-year old
Belgian side Anderlecht are also in a similar position
as Ligue 2 side Dijon have also shown interest alongside Groningen and Spanish second tier side Tenerife
The 18-year old broke into Rennes’ first team last season
and managed to make 10 appearances in Ligue after impressing for Le Noir et Rouge’s reserve side
Tchaouna was also one of the stars of Frances U19 Euro campaign
and scored in every game up until the semi-final stage – with Manchester City and PSG having reportedly observed the player’s performances for Les Bleus this summer

Are you stressed about the stress that's causing your skin to break out
In addition to being an Emmy-winning TV host, nutrition author and host of the Mom Brain podcast, Daphne is also co-owner of LOUM Beauty
an emerging beauty and wellness brand dedicated to the mind-skin connection
we caught up with Daphne to discuss all things LOUM Beauty
and how we can all achieve radiant skin through manageable self-care routines
"I've been approached by other skin-care companies in the past to be part of their journeys
it was important not to be a part of something that I felt was just more noise in an already-crowded marketplace," Daphne explained to E!
"What drew me to LOUM was the brand's foundation in 30 years of scientific research into how stress impacts so many of our major skin concerns — from dullness and dryness
My skincare routine needs to feel luxurious and practical
Most of all: time for yourself well spent that helps me ‘lean my routine' with multi-tasking
What are your favorite LOUM products and why
DO: My holy grail product is the Pure Serenity Golden C Serum
I use it morning and night on clean skin and press it over make up for a fresh
It's packed with potent Vitamin C and gold to instantly brighten
It's also the first product in the LOUM Beauty line that I got my sisters and friends hooked on because it works fast and it's so easy to use
Just smooth a few drops between your palms and press over your face and neck to melt away stress
The Pure Serene Golden Vitamin C serum helps with dullness
and hyperpigmentation thanks to ingredients like golden vitamin C

"I'm also devoted to my Renew & Brighten Polishing Minifacial– I use it twice a week in the shower before bed," Daphne revealed
"It's such a gentle but effective buffing cleanser-plus-mask combo (all of our line is multitasking
but this one is a powerhouse of goodness) to take off the day and prep my skin for my evening skincare – and it works in 2-3 minutes
I can't deal with long rituals – I'm just trying to go to sleep
the minifacial works so fast and I can't get over how buttery soft it makes my skin."
Packed with ingredients like chamomile, grape seed, pumpkin enzymes and the brand's Tri·Serene™ Complex, the minifacial functions as a cleanser-mask hybrid that delivers nutrients deep into the skin while gently exfoliating to reveal more radiant looking skin
"Then I follow with Pure Serenity Golden C Serum and our Awaken Glow Elixir Oil for maximum smoothing hydration," Daphne explained

E!: The brand promotes the idea of finding your calm and addresses how the cycle of stress can affect one's skin
Do you have any tips for minimizing stress through skincare
DO: Manageable rituals of self-care that really deliver results are my priority
I find that when I set aside a few minutes to get myself ready to tackle the day or wind down at night

Today, in our first profile, we take a look at Mamadou Loum and Senegal as they prepare for their third appearance at the Finals.
The Lions of Teranga have affiliated with FIFA for the past sixty years but it wasn’t until 2002 that they qualified for the FIFA World Cup, with current boss Aliou Cisse amongst the playing squad that went to Seoul.
Senegal were one of the surprise packages of the 2002 Finals, beating holders France in their first game thanks to a goal from Papa Bouba Diop.
Draws with Denmark and Uruguay, the latter a six-goal thriller saw Bruno Metsu’s side qualify for the knock out stages.
They met Sweden in the last 16, with an Henri Camara golden goal winner in extra time seeing them through to the Quarter-Finals, but that was where their run came to an end when Turkey eliminated them through the same means that had seen them set up the tie.
Their next appearance at the Finals came last time out in Russia, where they opened with a win over Poland before drawing with Japan.
Cisse’s team were beaten 1-0 by Colombia in their final group game, leaving them with an identical record with Japan, however they exited the competition having received two more yellow cards than the Asian nation.
Senegal go to Qatar in search of their second trophy this year, with them winning the Africa Cup of Nations for the first time in February, courtesy of a penalty shoot out victory over Egypt, having twice been runners-up.
Senegal entered the Second Round of CAF (Confederation of African Football) qualifying and only dropped two points in their four team group to finish eight points clear of nearest challengers Togo.
The Third Round saw the ten group winners all drawn into five ties, with Senegal picked out to face Egypt.
With the home side winning each leg it meant for the second time in two months, the two countries faced a penalty shoot out, with Sadio Mane scoring the decisive spot kick to send the Lions of Teranga to their second successive World Cup.
Mamadou Loum is the Royals inclusion in Cisse’s squad, and he will wear the number 25 shirt.
The midfielder, who joined us in the summer, has three caps for his country, with his first coming in 2-1 win over Mali in March 2019.
He then started in a 4-1 victory away to Eswatini in November 2019, before being an unused substitute in seven of Senegal’s eight World Cup qualifiers.
The 25-year-old was named in their triumphant Africa Cup of Nations squad, with him playing for the full 90 minutes in a group stage draw with Guinea, with their win over Egypt in the Final seeing Loum going home with a winner’s medal.
Chelsea defender Kalidou Koulibaly will lead the side in Qatar, having won 64 caps since making his debut in 2015.
The 31-year-old began his career in France with Metz, but after a two season stint with Genk, made his name in a eight year spell with Italian side Napoli.
He is no stranger to winning silverware in the Gulf state, having scored the winning penalty to beat Juventus in the 2014 Supercoppa Italiana in Doha.
Koulibaly went on to make over 300 appearances for the Naples based club, and claimed the Coppa Italia in 2020 before departing for West London last summer.
On the international stage he skippered the team to victory in the Africa Cup of Nations, as he looks ahead to playing in his second World Cup.
Everton midfielder Idrissa Gana Gueye could reach a historic landmark should Cisse’s team reach the knock out stages, with him just four caps away from becoming the first Senegal player to reach 100.
Born in the capital Dakar, he made his first team debut for French side Lille and won the 2011 Coupe de France against Paris Saint-Germain.
He first came to England in 2015 when he signed for Aston Villa, but he departed following relegation at the end of the season and joined Everton.
After three seasons and more than 100 appearances for the Toffees he returned to France and won two Ligue 1 titles with PSG before returning to Goodison Park last summer.
Gueye has been apart of the Senegal set up for the past 11 years. He has been apart of four Africa Cup of Nations squads and scored in the semi-final victory against Burkina Faso en route to their triumph this year.
He is the second most capped Senegal player of all time, at the time of writing, and the 33-year-old will hope to celebrate his 100th cap by matching the Class of 2002.
Bayern Munich forward Sadio Mane needs little introduction to an English audience, following a hugely successful six-year spell with Liverpool.
The 30-year-old made his debut in club football for French outfit Metz in 2012, and before the year was out he would make a €4 million move to Red Bull Salzburg and his international debut.
Following a record of almost one in two for the Austrian side he joined Southampton in 2014, where he scored 25 times and set the record for the fastest Premier League hattrick with a treble against Aston Villa recorded at 2 minutes 56 seconds.
Having helped the Saints to a 6th place finish in 2016, he made a big money move to Liverpool where he went on to won six trophies including the Champions League in 2018 and the Premier League two years later.
He became a firm favourite with the Anfield support and departed in June having scored 120 goals for the club.
So far this season Mane has scored 12 goals in 25 appearances for the Bavarian side, however he came off injured in his most recent outing in which has left Cisse sweating on his fitness ahead of the tournament.
Mane has scored eight goals for his country this year to bring his tally up to 34 and overtake Camara as Senegal’s all time leading marksmen.
He is just also three caps behind Gueye on 93 and will want to make his mark on the biggest stage having scored just once in 2018, in the draw with Japan, as the African champions look to compete with the world’s best.
Senegal’s opening match is against three time runners-up Netherlands on Monday 21 November, 4pm, at the Al Bayt, with the Dutch missing last time around having finished third in 2014.
Their second game is against the hosts, in what is their first appearance at a Finals, with that taking place on Friday 25 November, 1pm, at the Al Thumama Stadium.
Then their final Group A match will see them take on Ecuador in the Khalifa International Stadium on Tuesday 29 November, 3pm, as they look to secure a knock out berth.
Should the Lions of Teranga make the Second Round, they would face one of England, Wales, USA or Iran, with the Winner of Group A taking on the Runner Up of Group B, and visa versa.

said: “Mamadou is a player we identified as a potential loan target early in the window and I am very pleased to now be able to welcome him to Reading
A powerful dynamic midfield player with top-flight and international experience on his CV
I am confident he will make a big impact in blue and white hoops in the Championship this season.”
Although Mamadou arrives in RG2 from Portugal
he spent last season playing regular football in La Liga whilst on loan with Alaves
He made 32 appearances in the Spanish top tier last season
making his debut at home to Real Madrid last August.Having opened his account against Elche
he scored the second of his two goals for Alaves in a 2-1 win over Valencia in February.Last season he also featured alongside the likes of Sadio Mane and Cheikhou Kouyate in representing his native Senegal in an Africa Cup of Nations stalemate with Guinea
The country with whom he made his debut back in 2019 went on to lift the trophy in Cameroon after a penalty shootout win against Egypt in the Final
The 6’2” Dakar-born defensive midfielder had previously spent the early years of his career in Portugal with Segunda Liga side SC Braga B and then in the Primeira Liga on loan with Moreirense FC
we have had to put together an almost entirely new midfield this summer and Mamadou feels like an important piece in that puzzle
Comfortable with the ball at his feet and an aerial threat in both boxes
he is a player who will battle hard from the first minute to the last with that fire in the belly you need to tackle the challenge of the Championship head on
He was a player highly-coveted by a number of clubs
so for Mamadou to choose to join us is a real boost for everyone at the club.”
