Makueni County is set to collaborate with the Okoa Mama na Mtoto Initiative (OMMI) and Women in Development to enhance maternal
and child health services across the County
This partnership comes amid rising neo-natal mortality rates in Makueni
currently standing at 26 % of deaths per 1,000 live births
a figure that underscores the urgent need for improved healthcare interventions
on Monday hosted officials from Women in Development Initiative
(International Federation of Gynecology and Obstetrics) and the Centre for Reproductive Health
where discussions centered on eliminating preventable maternal deaths
the lead champion of the Okoa Mama na Mtoto Initiative
at least 90% of pregnant women should attend a minimum of four antenatal care (ANC) visits
while 90% of births should be assisted by skilled healthcare professionals
she emphasized that 80% of mothers and newborns require early postnatal and essential newborn care for optimal health outcomes
Governor Mutula Kilonzo Jr
stressed the importance of nutrition for expectant mothers and infants
The new partnership is expected to strengthen healthcare systems and improve the well-being of mothers and children across Makueni

Boston-based 501(c)3 organization The Okoa Project has designed an ambulance trailer that attaches to a motorcycle
providing a safe way for patients to access health care in rural Tanzania
The Okoa Project is using creative engineering
and a community-centered approach to design to increase access to health care in Tanzania
1 billion people lack the transportation needed to access medical care
5,000 women die every year from complications related to pregnancy and childbirth
far from paved roads and health-care facilities
one organization is working to save lives using creative engineering
and a community-centered approach to design
an organization that serves more than 40 communities in the Mbarali District of Mbeya
McCracken wanted to find a way to transport rural residents to health-care providers
The team got to work designing an ambulance trailer that attaches to the back of any motorcycle
providing a safe way to transport people to lifesaving care
What began as a student project for Young and two other women from MIT—Sade Nabahe
a computer scientist—soon evolved into a full-time nonprofit they named The Okoa Project after the Swahili word okoa
which means “to save.” They continued to work with McCracken to establish the ambulance program in Mbeya
Being a female-led organization has “allowed us to truly focus on the women-centered parts of design
more than other organizations or products do,” Young says
“One of our biggest focuses is maternal health care and getting pregnant women to the hospital.”
women commonly receive little or no prenatal medical attention
which could detect treatable complications like preeclampsia
a potentially fatal spike in blood pressure
less than half of pregnant women have a skilled attendant present during labor and delivery
which could greatly increase their chance of survival if a problem arises
Motorcycles are the primary mode of travel throughout East Africa
but taking a boda boda (motorcycle taxi) is expensive and uncomfortable
and it’s dangerous for pregnant women to travel on the back of the motorcycle for hours on rough roads
To work within this existing transportation infrastructure
the team designed a universal attachment that “can turn any motorcycle into a lifesaving device.”
The Okoa Project uses a community-centered design approach to the ambulance
“We want to make sure that the community is involved in every step of the design process,” Young says
The team traveled to Mbeya early on and held focus groups with mothers
and motorcycle drivers to get a wide range of perspectives on the safest
most comfortable way to transport people—especially pregnant women
“We’ve done over 500 interviews to inform our design,” Young says
Young even brought an early prototype into the community for people to see and use
When the Okoa team talked with people about the design
“we realized that there were some big changes we needed to make
mostly in people feeling secure—having it be a private experience of going to the hospital,” Young says
Those changes included creating an enclosed ambulance for complete privacy
and an additional seat so a friend or family member can accompany the patient
each iteration with improved safety and comfort based on community feedback
The Okoa Project joined the residency program at the Autodesk Technology Center in Boston to improve upon its original design and manufacturing process; its production operations are based at the Kubuni Centre and Collaborative
“We train local technicians to build our ambulances in-country,” Young says
The iterative design process has been a collaborative back-and-forth between Okoa’s engineers and the Tanzanian technicians
some of whom are youth forced to drop out of school early
“We also really focus on teaching and skill-building
as well as knowledge sharing across cultures,” Young says
“They showed us some of the ways to use motorcycle parts that were readily available and also make something attachable to the back of any motorcycle.”
Creating the Okoa ambulance has been a lesson in cross-cultural design thinking
Whereas the technicians design as they build
“I really like CAD and engineering drawings.”
Despite the different approaches, the two methods are complementary, especially with Young’s portable design program. “We’ve been using [Autodesk] Fusion 360 to coordinate the design,” Young says
we’ve been able to use it while we’ve been traveling.” The agile program has enabled The Okoa Project to explore generative-design possibilities in 2020 and has made field implementation more streamlined as the teams work together
The ambulance is 60 inches wide by 64 inches long and costs $1,200 to design and build
Okoa is currently working to improve the already robust suspension to create a smoother ride over the terrain
Once the motorcycles are ready to hit the road
they’re handed over to a motorcycle driver who’s been trained to transport patients
It’s another link in the sustainability of the design and completes the community-centered connection between people and medical care
but they also create local jobs and strengthen health-care systems that already exist,” Young says
People in Mbeya are using the three ambulances currently in service
She was having extremely bad diarrhea and was really worried that her health would be compromised.” Boniface was also pregnant and worried about her baby
“Helena contacted the local ambulance dispatcher
and got to the hospital in time.” With mom and baby now doing well
“She said she’d also take the ambulance to deliver.” It’s an anecdote that supports The Okoa Project’s mission: “Saving lives
The three ambulances in Mbeya serve a population of 5,000 people. By the middle of 2020, 13 will be operational in Tanzania and in Ghana. Within the next five years
the team plans on building 250 more units to serve between 750,000 and 1.25 million people
Young is already thinking of what’s next for The Okoa Project
we helped customize a wheelchair for a man out in the communities we work in,” she says
“That sparked a lot of ideas about other ways we could help with innovative technologies.”

FILE PHOTO: The logo of the Adani Group is seen on the facade of its Corporate House on the outskirts of Ahmedabad

As the Adani Group faces a significant legal battle in the U.S.
are demanding transparency over the cancellation of two major deals involving the conglomerate.
The deals were scrapped by President William Ruto after the billionaire was indicted by U.S
civil society groups are calling for full disclosure of the details surrounding the canceled agreements.
The Okoa Uchumi coalition claims that the deals were shrouded in secrecy and insists that Kenyans should be informed about the financial implications and the actions taken against those involved in the contracting process
to dismiss those who hold executive offices and powers
we urge Parliament to begin impeachment proceedings
particularly against the Cabinet Secretaries who played a role in facilitating the Adani deal," said Diana Gichengo
echoed concerns about the long-term impact on the Kenyan public.
"The president did indicate that these agreements should be withdrawn and alternative options pursued
The Kenyan people are underwriting public-private partnerships
it is the taxpayers who will ultimately bear the cost," Dr
The civil society groups also criticized what they described as unsustainable borrowing and the mismanagement of public funds
Rugo highlighted that over 70% of the nation's tax revenue and 50% of the national budget are allocated to servicing debt
which outpaces funding for critical services like healthcare
"This is clear evidence that the country is debt-trapped rather than being on a pathway to a sustainable economy," he added
also voiced concerns about the rising tax burden on Kenyans.
"If these arbitrary and exorbitant taxes continue
How are Kenyans supposed to make money and run their informal businesses?" she asked
The Okoa Uchumi coalition has also called on the government to address what they term as "budgeted corruption" in government projects.
The group emphasizes the need for greater accountability and transparency in the management of public resources to ensure that taxpayer money is used effectively and efficiently
IN SHORT: Imposters often use the name of legitimate institutions to trick users into sending them money
This Facebook account pretending to give loans in the name of Kenyan financial institution Mwananchi Credit Limited is run by an imposter and should be avoided
The Facebook account Mwananchi Okoa Loans is offering Kenyans on Facebook instant loans of up to KSh100,000 for business
The account’s profile picture and cover photo features the logo of Mwananchi Credit Limited
In bid to entice users, the account’s posts include images of bundles of cash, as well as screenshots of messages from users who have supposedly received loans
But is the Facebook account run by Mwananchi Credit
The poor punctuation in the messages posted by the account is the first sign it’s fake
Ads from genuine institutions are usually well-written without grammatical errors
A trustworthy financial institution would link to a website or an app from their social media accounts and also list a physical location or an address
But the Facebook account in question hasn’t done any of this
Africa Check noted that the screenshot used in its posts, supposedly messages from users acknowledging receipt of their loans, are old and have been used before by other imposter accounts
The account lists two phone numbers to be used for loan applications. But those numbers can’t be found on Mwananchi Credit Limited’s official website. Previously, the company told us that its official contact number was 0709147000
We sent a message to the account in question on WhatsApp and were told to pay KSh650 “security fee” for us to access the loans
The account is run by an imposter and its offers should be ignored

Massachusetts —Tim Tebow is currently fighting for an NFL roster spot on the Jacksonville Jaguars as a converted Tight End
The former Florida and NFL quarterback is much more than a gifted athlete though
He transformed his Tim Tebow Foundation into a platform to end human trafficking
Human trafficking traps over 40 million people globally and the industry as a whole produces more than $150 billion dollars annually
Tim Tebow’s foundation has a three-step plan to help mitigate human trafficking
The three steps include helping to create support programs that keep families together
responding with physical rescue missions and teams
and is committing to survivors’ long-term recovery through comprehensive care and healing
The foundation works in eight foreign countries that have been hit the hardest by human trafficking
it works in the United States to prevent the transfer of victims to other nations
Tebow believes that it is important to live with a “sense of urgency” in order to rescue as many people as possible
Tebow started to fight against human trafficking after his father had a life-changing experience while preaching in a remote country in 2012
He recounts that his father saw human traffickers selling four girls right next to him
he pulled all the money that was in his wallet and bought all four of them
told Tebow what happened and said he needed help with what to do next
Tebow responded by transforming his foundation to help victims of human trafficking
The Tim Tebow Okoa Philippi Campus in Uganda serves as a joint rescue operation between the Tim Tebow Foundation and Okoa Refuge. The campus is a safe place for trafficked and abused women to receive the love and rehabilitation care “they deserve”
uses his gifts and resources as both an athlete and changemaker to help those in their greatest times of need
the Tim Tebow Foundation funded world-class trauma-informed-care training for counselors in the nation
This will help to ensure each child gets proper attention and help
the foundation seeks to improve international law enforcement
According to human trafficking research
every two minutes someone is bought and sold as a modern-day slave
Ending human trafficking for good is an enormous endeavor
Tim Tebow never gives up even as the underdog
The Tim Tebow Foundation will do whatever it can to rescue as many people as possible from the horrors of human trafficking

Tyler Workman laughs as he looks back at an old photo of himself as a Palm Valley two-year-old engulfed in a pair of men’s boots
Little did he know that he would one day walk the dusty streets of Masaka
in a pair of well-worn boots rescuing hundreds of children in dire need and empowering a village by providing jobs and hope
But that is exactly what Workman is doing through Okoa Refuge
the non-profit organization he founded with his wife
he is humbled at the positive impact Okoa Refuge has made in thousands of lives
“I saw Tyler as a 13-year-old reading books about starting an orphanage
It’s not what the average person is doing at that age,” Yost said
Yost spoke recently at “An Evening of Hope,” the 10th anniversary celebration and fundraiser for Okoa Refuge at Bowing Oaks Plantation
He says his own children volunteered at Okoa’s compound in Kayirikiti Village
and it inspires youth to see that “you should never give up on a dream just because there are obstacles.”
While working in a Jacksonville book bindery from age 15 to 22
Workman spent his breaks drawing out plans for an orphanage
and they opened Okoa Thrift Store to raise funds
she earned a degree as an infectious disease nurse
and he obtained an AA degree and contractor’s license
The two were able to open the orphanage in 2010 with 20 children and six volunteer caregivers and teachers
after building a girls’ dormitory and starting a Bible school
the Workmans moved to Uganda permanently with their two young daughters
Amid death threats and attempts to raid the orphanage
providing jobs through Okoa’s Community Empowerment Program
which trains adults in everything from raising pigs to computer skills
a career home for former prostitutes and abused women
and (upon request from the government) a business center for people with disabilities
Okoa’s mobile medical clinics have helped more than 45,000 people
and Workman says it is not uncommon for them to give out close to 6,000 prescriptions in one of their free care days
A photographic timeline of Okoa’s milestones was on display at the recent anniversary celebration
and many in attendance fondly remembered their own visits to the refuge
smiling at specific pictures that sparked memories
loves to dance,” Charlie Stoner pointed to a 2017 photo taken during her mission trip
when she assisted in one of Okoa’s medical clinics and helped build a road and kitchens
and everything that is donated is used to maximum capacity,” Stoner said
Okoa has earned the respect and trust of the locals and officials
“The government comes to use for help with the hard cases,” said Workman
he said Uganda ordered almost 600 international aid agencies to leave the country due to corruption
Okoa was designated as the only orphanage allowed to care for infants in the district
Okoa serves 200 children (85 live at the orphanage) and employs 80 staff members (30 work at the orphanage)
And what’s left is for Okoa to grow,” Workman said
The Workmans host mission groups throughout the year
with Liv running the www.okoarefuge.org website at home while caring for her family of eight
including bouts of malaria within their family
the dedicated couple is happy to see the fruits of their labor
We could never have imagined what God had in store for us,” said Workman
who looks forward to many more years walking through Masaka in his dusty boots

This account and page are trying to profit by using the name of a Kenyan government programme meant to help the most vulnerable
Both use the same phone number to try to lure users
The account and page use the logo of Inua Jamii, the Kenyan government programme that gives cash grants to poor and vulnerable people
“Inua Jamii” is Kiswahili for “uplift the community”
One post reads: “Kama unataka loan sai kuanzia 5k upto 100k andika neno loan.”
This mix of English and Kiswahili translates as: “If you want a loan now from KSh5,000 to KSh100,000

an initiative by the Ushiriki Wema in collaboration with the Mudavadi Trust Fund has officially launched its programme at the Uasin Gishu County Hospital Fund to support pre-term babies and improve the neonatal care services offered in the county
Okoa Malaika is an infant pre-term mitigation programme distributing neo-natal equipment like incubators and baby blankets to hospitals in Kenya to ensure the well-being of mother and child
wife to Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi
while gracing the occasion at the Uasin Gishu County Hospital noted that the Okoa Malaika program aligns with the government’s efforts to reduce infant mortality rates by ensuring a vibrant health sector under Universal Health Coverage
“It is fitting that we come together in this vibrant community to embark on an initiative that uplifts and empowers both infants and women ensuring every individual has the opportunity to reach their full potential,” Mrs Musalia
“Okoa Malaika initiative aims to distribute neo-natal equipment to hospitals in all 47 counties in Kenya; by doing so
we will ensure the well-being of mother and child,” she explained
Mrs Musalia further noted that President William Ruto’s commitment to maternal health underscores the importance of accessible and quality healthcare services for women and children across Kenya as he recently launched the mother and child unit in Iten Referral Hospital in Elgeyo Marakwet
“As the world celebrates International Women’s Day
and political achievements of women this year’s theme “Invest in women: Accelerate progress” with the campaign theme of inclusivity carries a powerful message that extends far beyond a single day of celebration
“On this day we commemorate the remarkable strides made in advancing the rights and opportunities of women across the globe yet amidst our celebrations we cannot avoid to point out the stuck reality that neo-natal mortality continues to claim the lives of countless newborns,” stressed Mrs Musalia
She said that this affects communities where women face systematic inequalities and blindness to empowerment therefore the inclusivity will help create an environment where women can access comprehensive health care
“We are working on getting ultrasound to all community hospitals so that women can receive the necessary support and this will contribute to the prevention and management of pre-term births,” she noted
She explained that the government has accelerated this through the community health care promoters who play a crucial role in addressing health inequalities by bringing essential services to the people especially those in rural areas
and charitable organisations have a role to play in contributing to a better society as these challenges demand collaboration and cooperation on an unprecedented scale therefore putting our strengths
and perspectives together enables us to achieve far more than one entity can,” she averred
“As we gather to distribute neonatal incubators and baby blankets to Uasin Gishu
and West Pokot counties we must recognize the potential we hold collectively to inspire change
inclusion and confront the stuck realities of neonatal mortality and women’s health,” she added
She noted that the journey to motherhood is one filled with the wonder of creation
the program will help ease the apprehension so that when the baby is too eager and comes out before the due date
“Together we have the power to make a difference
and build a world where life is vital and every voice is heard,” she said
spouse to Uasin Gishu Governor Selina Bii noted that it is momentous day for the county and neighbouring counties as they receive state-of-the-art incubators that will be distributed to the public health centers
“We are grateful to Madam Tessie Musalia for spearheading the Okoa Malaika initiative
a pre-term health program that is a beacon of hope to us all”
She noted that the Okoa Malaika initiative will significantly enhance the survival process of the children born prematurely
allowing them to strive into infancy and eventually adulthood as every baby’s life is precious and it is a collective duty to provide these children with the opportunity to grow and mature
and community as well as the caregivers and nurses who attend to the babies in the nurseries” she noted
She urged for continued collaboration amongst all stakeholders
and health care providers to further enhance maternal and child health
Zhang Zhizhong further noted that this is a great program as it gives a chance to bring goodwill to the Kenyan people at the grassroot level
“Kenya and China have a good bilateral relationship and we hope that in the future
with the help of the Mudavadi foundation we can continue with our friendly collaboration,” said Zhizhong
Njoki Mambo said that as the brand ambassador
she is privileged to be part of the initiative that promises to make a tangible difference in the lives of countless families
“The arrival of a newborn is a beautiful occasion built with hope
it is also time for vulnerability particularly for mothers who give birth to pre-term babies who require specialized care and attention,” she noted
according to Kenya Demographic and Health Survey 2022
She extended her heartfelt appreciation to esteemed stakeholders and organizations whose unveiling commitment and collaboration have been instrumental in bringing this vision to life
“Partnerships are the cornerstone for creating a better society
We recognize that no single entity can address the many challenges alone
and shared resources that we can make a truly lasting impact,” said Mambo

the commission applied the existing legislation liberally but still the initiative fell short of expectation in the initial verification process
“Following the data capture process 1,633,577 records were transferred from the hard copy booklets into soft copy
The 1,633,577 records entailed the raw data that was to be cleaned and further analysed for purposes of verification,” he said
IEBC received a total of 1,633,577 signatures but its report following the verification process had a total of 891,598 signatures which is below the threshold of one million votes required for a referendum
He explained that the process was done diligently and professionally despite claims of irregularities by CORD leaders
While emphasising that the commission was being unfairly targeted by the CORD coalition
Hassan Thursday stated that the signatures were thoroughly scrutinised and taken through several verification stages
“As is the case in verifying signatures
affirm and confirm with some high degree of certainty that indeed the supporters of the initiative as listed are registered voters
If there is any doubt on the authenticity of the records in as far as voter registration is concerned
such a person may not be included,” he stated
He revealed that in some records there were no ID numbers and in others signatures were cancelled but not countersigned
“When verifying the supporters of the initiative’s registered voters
the central data base of registered voters becomes very useful in processing the information
the commission is able to run a list of over a million signatures against the data base using the National ID cards and passport numbers,” he said
“The 1,633,577 records were further processed in order to establish those that were valid records for purposes of verification
When the law speaks of the verification of signatures of registered voters
it was considered that only records with National ID or passport numbers will be taken to the next level of verification,” Mahiri-Zaja said
She explained that the process of data capture and analysis was based on the assumption that the signatures appearing against the names and ID numbers were of the persons for which they appear
She outlined that the records were further processed in order to establish those that were valid records for purposes of verification
the process of cleaning the data yielded a total of 1,210,707 signatures
“The 1,210,707 records were subjected to further analysis for quality purposes
A closer scrutiny of these records showed some anomalies that needed to be taken care of
Invalid entries entered in the ID/PP number column were removed,” she said
She indicated that some entries had characters that were not consistent with the conventional numbering of National IDs/Passports numbers
ID/Passport number entries that contained wild characters such as (
&,!,?|>…) were removed resulting into clean ID/ Passport Numbers
there were a total of 1,205 entries found invalid and hence removed.”
She stated that the final process of verification yielded 891,598 signatures which she stated was below the one million mark
CORD has threatened to take the electoral commission to court following the move by IEBC to ‘deny’ them what they allege as their constitutional right
The commission stated that if the coalition felt that they were not served to their maximum expectation

Sept 2 – The Okoa Kenya referendum push has hit the 1.4 million signature mark
according to a statement by the movement’s secretariat
The secretariat which is coordinating the signature collection says it is targeting to collect five million signatures despite the fact that the law requires only one million signatures
“The first batch of 1,800 books distributed to Members of Parliament (Senate and National Assembly)
Wiper and FORD-Kenya party officials and volunteers in the Western Kenya
Rift Valley and Nairobi regions have all been filled with signatures,” the statement reads in part
It further states that the exercise is expected to move to Coast
The signature collection which started two weeks ago pushes for a plebiscite to amend clauses in the Constitution to among other issues increase the allocation of funds to counties to enable them deliver more services to the electorate
The Okoa Kenya Secretariat is urging Kenyans from all walks of life to put their signatures in the books at designated areas in their regions to enable it reach the five million plus mark
The technical committee headed by Paul Mwangi is in the process of drafting a Bill which together with the batch of signatures will be handed over to the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) for review
Mwangi says the committee is currently holding consultations on the issues by seeking public opinion on the proposed amendments
The electoral commission will expedite verification of 1.4 million Okoa Kenya referendum signatures and transmit the Bill to the county assemblies by next month
The deal was arrived at during a three-hour meeting between the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission and Cord leaders Raila Odinga
Kalonzo Musyoka and Moses Wetang’ula
The meeting agreed to address discrepancies raised by Cord in the distribution of BVR kits across the country to register four million voters in the first of the two phases that started yesterday
“They gave us the excuse of limitation of resources and our failure to submit a soft copy of the signatures,” Raila said
“But even as we agreed that it’s not the wish of the executive to provide resources as they wish
the constitution does not say signatures must be in soft copy.”
Wetang’ula said: “The signatures have been lying here for the last 90 days but the executive must ensure adequate resources by way of supplementary budget for the commission to do its job.”
The signatures to amend the constitution to increase allocations to the counties from at least 15 per cent to 45 per cent
Cord leaders have complained the delay is meant to frustrate the referendum bid
The constitution says the commission shall have 90 days to verify the signatures and hand over the draft Bill to the county assemblies for consideration
Kalonzo accused Jubilee of employing delaying tactics so that Kenyans give up on the referendum
He warned that the country will not take the “monkey business of a stolen election in 2017” as in 2013
“We know there is more monkey business involving the registration of Kenyans at Nyayo House
We will not take it anymore,” Kalonzo said
Wetang’ula also accused the commission of placing an impediment against those wishing to change their voting areas

Githunguri MP Gathoni Wamuchomba has criticized Kenyans who continue to praise political leaders who she claims are responsible for the economic hardship
In a statement shared via her X account on Wednesday
Wamuchomba condemned the hypocrisy of citizens who publicly complain about their plight but still offer praise to those in power when they visit their communities
“Okoa pay slip will only happen if we stop clapping for lies from people in strategic leadership positions
Some of you even compose songs in their praises!” Wamuchomba stated
Wamuchomba’s remarks focused on the ongoing struggle of civil servants who are burdened by high taxes and a lack of adequate compensation
She emphasized that while these workers are being taxed 35 per cent of their salaries to fund government projects
such as renovations to high-profile government buildings
many are still unable to pay off long-term mortgages for their own homes
She questioned how Kenyans could continue to praise leaders who
are not prioritizing the welfare of ordinary citizens
“How do you praise someone who takes your 35 per cent of your salary to pay for the Renovation and facelift of Government buildings like the house on the hill
you and your family are on a long-term mortgage uncleared?” Wamuchomba noted
Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachaugua recently launched the ‘Okoa payslip‘ mission to counter President William Ruto’s new tax policies
Speaking from his Wamunyoro residence in Nyeri County via a TikTok live video on February 1
Gachagua expressed concern over increased tax deductions
likely linked to the recently implemented Tax Amendment Act and Tax Procedures Act
“We want to rescue the payslip because the payslip iliguzwa na iko shida mingi sana
(We want) to restore the dignity of the payslip so that the people can do their things,” Gachagua stated
those who are talented and in the online space
we are going to have a conversation with our young people so that they can tell me what they think we can do and what we can put in place so that their lives may be better.”
Gachagua announced plans to engage with young people working in the digital space to discuss the effects of these new taxes
their talents can be acknowledged and everybody can know who has the power to do what…that is what I’m planning but most important is to engage with the young people,” Gachagua added
A key change under the new laws is the doubling of National Social Security Fund (NSSF) contributions for workers earning above Ksh36,000
This third phase of the NSSF Act of 2013 takes effect this month
Both employees and employers are now required to contribute 6% of the employee’s salary to the NSSF
with the digital service tax being replaced by the significant economic presence tax
which has increased from 1.5% to 3% of turnover
a new 5% withholding tax on digital platforms is expected to reduce earnings for content creators and other digital entrepreneurs
