Progress Wrestling presents Super Strong Style 16 on May 4 and 5 — their signature tournament of the year — and The Takedown on SI exclusively spoke with two stars of the company ahead of the big event
Michael Oku is sizzling on the independent wrestling circuit all over the world and spoke about his current run
and how much winning Super Strong Style 16 would mean to him
#SSS16 ROUND ONE First. Time. Ever.Former winner Kid Lykos faces Michael Oku in a match that could headline any chapter!Who advances? Find out tomorrow!️ https://t.co/Pcy5LGEmjM pic.twitter.com/Q9BWedi52E
The Takedown: 2024 was a banner year for your career -- why do you think that was
Michael Oku: "I think every year of my career has been an improvement on the one prior
I can say I made a huge name for myself in 2022 and then the fact that I get a better idea of who I am as a wrestler every match
coupled with trying to make as much noise as possible
I make a bigger splash in the wrestling world yearly
The Takedown: What is life on the indies like at the moment
Oku: "We're in a healthy state when it comes to the UK & European indie scene where talent is concerned
The way I always measure that is by how many wrestlers from these shores you're seeing around the world
and how much interest other companies are taking in our continent
and even GCW see it as beneficial to run shows in Europe."
The Takedown: Please talk about Super Strong Style -- how important is it for you to win this
How do you train for such a grueling tournament
Oku: "I've been part of the biggest tournaments in independent wrestling: PWG BOLA
The glaring omission is SSS16 to the point where a lot of people don't realize this is my debut in the tournament
very few who can say they've been in all 3
and being remembered as a winner of this tournament will mean even more."
Oku's first round Super Strong Style 16 match is against Kid Lykos
The Takedown on SI also spoke to Amira ahead of Super Strong Style 16
Amira has just a few years of experience under her belt
working in various countries and for various promotions around the world
Amira spoke in detail about what she's learned along the way in her career thus far
whether or not pro wrestling as a career has met expectations
and about some key career memories and moments
The Takedown: You’re just a few years into your career
I thought I’d wrestle a few matches around Ireland
but I never imagined I’d become the first Irish woman to wrestle in Costa Rica and then in arena Mexico
The journey’s been wild — I’m been blessed enough to travel round the world doing what I love
In this time I have also been on this amazing journey with Michael Oku being his valet that has changed our lives forever
I couldn’t be more grateful for my career exactly as it is."
The Takedown: What is your best memory yet
Amira: "It has to be my debut in Mexico City
It was the first time I felt like I had finally done something and achieved a goal completely my own in wrestling
Representing Ireland meant a lot to me as well
#SSS16 MEET & GREETKeep the memento of a professional picture & signed 8x10 with the power couple of independent wrestlingDON’T miss your chance of meeting Michael Oku & Amira this Monday!️ https://t.co/Pcy5LGEmjM pic.twitter.com/LZp7imaMPi
The Takedown: What is the best piece of advice you’ve gotten so far
Amira: “In a world where you can be anything
be it all and don’t dim your fire for anyone.”
The Takedown: How does working in Mexico compare to working in other areas of the world
The respect they have for lucha libre — it’s sacred
in the way fans live and breathe every moment
it’s less about flash and more about heart
If they love you… you’ll feel it in your bones
I sobbed when I left because it felt so right to be there."

As I stepped off the plane at Kos International Airport
a soft breeze carried the scent of the sea
filling me with a sense of excitement and peace
was picturesque—an endless stretch of sand dunes and blue waters meeting the skyline
I was greeted by an atmosphere of relaxed luxury
where whitewashed walls met earthy tones and the sound of waves became an ever-present melody
From the moment I walked through the open-air lobby
I could feel the island’s slow rhythm urging me to let go of the fast pace of life I had left behind
My home for the next few days was a spacious sea-view suite
including suites with private and semi-private pools
as well as a few two-bedroom villas for those seeking even more seclusion
and soft linens—all thoughtfully arranged to create a calming space
I decided to start the day with a group yoga class held at the resort
and the morning session focused on gentle stretches to awaken the body
The instructor’s soothing voice combined with the panoramic views of the Aegean Sea made for a truly rejuvenating experience
For those looking for a more personalized touch
and I was tempted to book one later in the week
I joined a meditation and healing workshop led by one of the resort’s in-house guides
offer a variety of practices aimed at reconnecting with oneself
the session was centered on breathwork and guided visualization
the resort also invites visiting shamans who lead healing retreats
The peaceful energy of the space made it easy to immerse myself fully in the practice
True to OKU Kos’s commitment to sustainability
the menu featured farm-to-table dishes made from locally sourced ingredients
paired with vegetables picked from nearby farms
The restaurant’s laid-back yet refined vibe was the perfect setting for savoring the fresh
where sunbeds were spaced far apart to ensure each guest could enjoy their own patch of paradise
The sandy shoreline and clear waters called to me
so I spent the next few hours alternating between reading a book and dipping into the cool
and the sheer beauty of the Aegean made me feel completely at ease
I decided to explore the resort’s spa
renowned for its holistic treatments and tranquil ambiance
inspired by Kos’s ancient healing traditions
features a carefully curated treatment menu
but what caught my attention was the hammam—a traditional steam room designed to cleanse the body and relax the mind
I spent a few minutes in the steam before enjoying a soothing full-body massage that melted away any lingering tension
I retreated to the quiet pool and relaxation area
sipping herbal tea and watching the sunlight play on the water’s surface
One of the most memorable aspects of OKU Kos was its state-of-the-art fitness studio
using the selection of cardio and strength-based machines to reinvigorate myself before breakfast
The resort’s commitment to wellness extended beyond relaxation; it was about balance—energizing the body while quieting the mind
where the golden hour brought the most magical light to the terrace
and watched in awe as the sky blazed with pinks and oranges
reflecting off the still waters of the Aegean
I joined a small group of guests for a private dinner on the beach
highlighting the best of Greek and Mediterranean cuisine
the soft lapping of the waves providing a soundtrack to the evening
Each dish celebrated local ingredients—fresh fish
and olive oil from the island’s groves
The farm-to-fork philosophy wasn’t just about eating well; it was about being mindful of where the food came from and how it connected us to the land
creating a warm and therapeutic experience
Soaking in the springs while gazing at the rugged coastline was the perfect way to cap off my trip
I felt deeply connected to the island’s history of healing
knowing that Kos was the birthplace of Hippocrates
OKU Kos had offered more than just luxury—it had provided a space for deep relaxation and rejuvenation
every experience seemed designed to soothe my soul and help me reconnect with myself
with its rich cultural heritage and laid-back beauty
with its seamless blend of luxury and mindfulness
had given me an experience I would carry with me long after I left the island
with breathtaking views over the Spanish coast and Africa beyond

NHK has found that about one third of accommodation facilities in the Oku-Noto region in northern Ishikawa Prefecture remain closed after a massive earthquake struck the region on New Year's Day last year
The quake ravaged the region's tourism industry
which was a major pillar for the local economy
Tourist sites and accommodations sustained serious damage
A survey was conducted on 109 hotels and inns in the cities of Wajima and Suzu and the towns of Noto and Anamizu for about two weeks since mid-April
NHK was able to confirm the status for 99 of them on whether or not they had resumed operations
which account for about one third of all accommodations
had not yet resumed their operations or had decided not to do so
amounting to more than half of the accommodations
But it became apparent that many of the guests staying there are reconstruction workers and officials who are to support quake survivors
Officials in the quake-affected areas are facing a challenge of not only repairing damaged facilities but also of attracting tourists to the region

The black-and-white colobus monkey family at Helen Brach Primate House has a new member
who will join female Kutaka and her offspring Nola
Oku’s transfer here is a recommendation of the Association of Zoos and Aquariums’ Guereza Colobus Monkey Species Survival Plan®; he is recommended for breeding with 5-year-old Nola
This primate species is native to east and central Africa and lives in lowland rain
and gallery forests that lie along rivers and wetlands
They have a complex stomach with four chambers
which allows them to ferment and detoxify plant material within their bodies
These primates are distinctively marked with a U-shaped mantle of white fur
which is much longer than the fur on the rest of their body
Some researchers believe the long fur acts like a parachute when the monkeys leap through trees
helping them make lengthy horizontal jumps without losing much height
They also have tails that are longer than their bodies
Oku can be distinguished from the other colobus monkeys by his loud roar and magnificent tail
He may be seen displaying in the habitat as he starts to become more familiar with his surroundings and marks his territory

as they engage in social grooming sessions

OKU Ibiza understands that today’s travelers don’t want to choose between peace
I have been fortunate enough to visit Ibiza every summer since I was eight months old
carrying on a family tradition started by my grandparents in the late seventies
My mother’s parents sought a sunny refuge to spend their August holidays after several rainy summers spent on the English coast
they made the journey from Blackpool to the Balearics
enchanted by brochure images of the sparkling Mediterranean
our family’s annual August retreat – a tradition we’ve maintained ever since
and magnums of rosé at Formentera’s Juan y Andrea
we don’t fit neatly into any of these categories
a perfect trip to Ibiza balances late nights dancing at Pacha
snorkeling around Cala Codolar and sipping sangria at The Cotton Club
This is where OKU Ibiza gets it right: understanding that today’s travelers crave a little of everything the White Isle has to offer and don’t want to choose between peace

09:19am EDTShareSaveCommentOKU Ibiza has cultivated a unique identity based off the island's bohemian flare
Barely two months into the 2024 season, OKU Ibiza has housed a host of the who’s whos already: think the queen of manifesting and personal development guru Roxie Nafousi
the hotel is a hotspot for the beautiful and the trendy
having first opened its doors in summer 2021
has fast become one of Ibiza’s most popular destinations ever since
thanks to its distinctively cultivated identity combined with a sincere yet professional way of service rarely seen done well on this island
Rooms at OKU Ibiza feature unique art pieces that guests can purchase
And OKU knows exactly how to hook a clientele that’s style-driven, fitness-conscious, yet fun-loving. Fusing carefree bohemian with understated luxury, the property is recognized as a “soulful hideaway”, but in reality it is at once a modern sanctuary and a party hotspot.
The hotel offers a movement program, including fitness classes and carefully curated, state-of-the-art gym facilities, personal training and daily group yoga of differing practices. Frequently featured on various social media platforms, the rooftop yoga and pilates studio is the most sought after space for those wanting to squeeze in a workout and a green juice after a night’s snooze in one of the hotel’s 185 boho-chic guestrooms.
But from early afternoon onwards, the adult pool becomes the focal point with live DJ sets and a buzzing atmosphere — not to mention flowing cocktails and free fruit kabobs or ice lollies to sooth throats from enthusiastic conversations or sing-alongs.
All wood accents and palm leaves, OKU Ibiza has cultivated a unique identity for itself
With properties in Ibiza and Kos, Greece being popular than ever, the group is clearly not stopping any time soon. Those fond of OKU’s twist on style and hospitality will be happy to learn that OKU Bodrum and OKU Andalusia are both due to open next year.

On a show that took place December 29th, Michael Oku made his first appearance in the Progress wrestling promotion in five years and it was a memorable. Accomponied by Amira, he took on Mark Haskins (accomponied by his own wife Vickie) and the two had a classic match to close out 2024. I just watched it over the past week, making it eligible for this week's Match of the Week according to my own criteria. My column, my rules!
The following are my top 10 matches of the week. Each entry starts with my own personal star rating and concludes with the Cagematch rating as well as Dave Meltzer's star rating, where available.
1. 4.75* Michael Oku beat Mark Haskins at Progress 175 on December 29.
2. 4.5* Penta beat Chad Gable at Monday Night RAW on January 13. 7.80/10 on Cagematch. 4.25* from Dave Meltzer.
3. 4.5* Tiffany Stratton retained her WWE Women's Championship at Friday Night Smackdown on January 17. 7.60/10 on Cagematch
4. 4.5* Luke Jacobs retained his Progress World championship at Progress 175 over Leon Slater, Man Like DeReiss and Ricky Knight Jr.
5. 4.5* Mike Santana beat Josh Alexander in an I Quit match at TNA Genesis on January 19. 7.97/10 on Cagematch.

The August 21, 2024 episode of "AEW Dynamite" is a landmark moment in AEW history
as it marks the first time an episode of the company's flagship show will take place outside North America
Wales are the lucky ones to see all of the action unfold live
with the show airing on tape delay on TBS later today
What fans won't see on TBS is the dark match that took place before the taping
which featured the AEW debut of English star Michael Oku
much to the delight of the fans in attendance
Despite the rumors of a potential AEW move
Oku is not currently booked for the taping of the August 24 "AEW Collision," which takes place immediately after the taping of "Dynamite" concludes
or the All In pay-per-view on August 25 at Wembley Stadium
but that doesn't mean he won't be busy this weekend
he will defend his Riot Cabaret Championship against Mark Andrews and Nico Angelo at Riot Cabaret's All Singing
before defending the RevPro Undisputed British Heavyweight Championship at the company's 12th Anniversary Show on August 24 against PROGRESS World Champion Luke Jacobs
KUALA LUMPUR: A person with disabilities (OKU) accidentally drove into a food court here while he was parking his car on Thursday (May 1)

"Cloud migration isn't just about moving data; it's about transforming how we operate and innovate," says Krishnamurthy Oku
an experienced IT professional from AT&T
AT&T's migration to Azure has not only transformed the company's cloud infrastructure but also established new benchmarks for the industry
In an industry where agility and cost efficiency are critical
Oku has effectively managed this complex process with his proficiency
By pioneering innovative strategies and technologies
Oku has demonstrated how strategic cloud migration can drive both organizational success and set standards for enterprises globally
Oku's contributions to AT&T's cloud migration have significantly influenced broader industry practices
His meticulous mapping of Virtual Machines (VMs) to applications ensured seamless alignment between target architecture and on-premises systems
setting a new standard for detailed planning in cloud migrations
Oku's implementation of the "Rehost Optimize" strategy
which facilitated rapid application migration without extensive code changes
along with his use of Proof of Concept (POC) to identify risks
has been widely adopted as a best practice by other enterprises
particularly using Terraform CI/CD pipelines
demonstrated how automation can streamline migrations
This approach is now being emulated by organizations looking to optimize their cloud transitions
his emphasis on Cloud Suitability and Platform Update Assessments has become a critical step for ensuring compatibility and reducing migration risks across the industry
Oku's strategy of deploying replica environments across multiple Azure regions and implementing quarterly DR switches has set a new benchmark for resilience
His detailed cutover and rollback plans have also influenced how enterprises maintain business continuity during migrations
Oku's innovations have set new standards in cloud migration
Oku's strategic planning involved meticulous mapping and a robust Six Principles framework—Secure the Network
This approach not only ensured a smooth transition with minimal downtime but also highlighted a model for other enterprises facing similar migrations
Oku began by assessing the current systems and identifying critical areas for improvement
He designed flexible and secure systems to facilitate the smooth migration of data and applications
He implemented rigorous testing protocols to minimize downtime and optimize resources
"The key was to plan meticulously and execute flawlessly," Oku explains
"We had to make certain the transition was seamless without impacting our operations."
His strategy included setting up Azure Site Recovery (ASR) to guarantee high availability and disaster recovery
Oku configured ASR to enable near-constant data replication from AT&T's on-premises servers to Azure
establishing data consistency and integrity throughout the migration
Oku also configured automated failover and failback processes to minimize downtime and secure operational continuity
stands out in the industry for its meticulous planning
When compared to similar large-scale migrations
such as those undertaken by companies like Netflix or Capital One
while Netflix's cloud migration famously embraced a "chaos engineering" philosophy
where the focus was on building resilience through controlled failure
Oku's emphasis on a Proof of Concept (POC) for uncovering potential risks before full-scale migration contrasts with Netflix's strategy
providing a more predictable and secure migration pathway
This method ensures that timelines are accurately forecasted and potential issues are addressed before impacting production environments
Capital One's migration to AWS was marked by a strong focus on compliance and security
similar to AT&T's emphasis on Role-Based Access Control (RBAC) and network security
particularly the use of Terraform for infrastructure provisioning
which not only accelerates deployment but also reduces human error
which includes active-passive DR setup across multiple regions
offers a more resilient failover mechanism compared to many industry peers who may rely on less frequent DR testing or more centralized recovery approaches
AT&T's migration strategy under Oku's leadership exemplifies a balance of caution and innovation
It provides a clear blueprint for enterprises that need both the reliability of established practices and the agility of automated
Oku's innovative migration approach includes several cutting-edge practices that push the boundaries of cloud technology
He implemented a Terraform-based CI/CD pipeline to automate infrastructure provisioning
he ensured robust security and optimized performance
His proof-of-concept (POC) approach preemptively identified risks and refined migration strategies
Oku's integration of disaster recovery across multiple Azure regions
with active-passive configurations and quarterly DR testing
exemplifies his commitment to resilience and continuous improvement
His strategies reflect a forward-thinking approach
represents a pivotal shift in the company's long-term strategy
setting a precedent for future cloud-based initiatives
Oku's cloud migration's focus on rehosting and optimizing workloads with minimal downtime and seamless cutover plans offers AT&T a scalable and flexible infrastructure
essential for adapting to evolving business needs
By leveraging Terraform for infrastructure automation and Azure's native tools for disaster recovery and cost optimization
Oku's approach not only ensures a smooth transition but also establishes a robust framework for future projects
including potential expansions into AI-driven services
This foundational work of Oku's team positions AT&T to innovate and stay ahead in a competitive market continually
The software industry is undergoing rapid transformation
A 2023 report projects that the global cloud computing market will reach $832.1 billion by 2025
with a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 17.5%
cost-effective IT solutions drives this growth
AT&T's migration to Azure by Oku is part of a broader trend among enterprises to use cloud technologies for improved agility and efficiency
has certified high availability and disaster recovery
which are critical components of a robust cloud strategy
only some believe in the effectiveness of these large-scale cloud migrations
A critic from the networking community expressed concerns about the reliability and performance of running entire network operations in the cloud
These concerns highlight the ongoing debate about the best methods for cloud adoption and the need for careful planning and execution
Oku's role in AT&T's migration to Azure demonstrates his technical ability and strategic vision in navigating complex challenges
Oku played a crucial role in the successful transition by addressing data migration complexities
His efforts have set new cloud migration and data management standards
Whether through technological advancements or mentorship
my goal is to leave a lasting impact on the industry." As the software industry evolves
professionals like Oku will play a pivotal role in shaping its future

accompanied by girlfriend and manager Amira Blair
defeated Serpentico prior to the Dynamite/Collision doubleheader taping happening in Cardiff
ahead of Sunday’s All In: London from Wembley Stadium
Oku is a friend and former opponent of AEW roster member Will Ospreay who takes on American/International Champion MJF this Sunday at the pay-per-view
Oku was defeated by MJF at a RevPro event and Ospreay made a surprise appearance to run MJF off after he threatened to deliver a Tiger Driver 91 to Blair after laying out Oku
