The Aggies still seemingly managed to upgrade at the position thanks to a few transfer portal additions of their own
One of those additions being now former NC State star Kevin Concepcion
who is now not only being regarded as one of the top receivers from the portal this offseason
but one of the nation's best players at the position
In a recent article from ESPN ranking the "best receivers in college football for 2025" Concepcion finds his name on the same list of Ohio State Buckeye star Jeremiah Smith
"Concepcion's 16 touchdowns over the past two seasons are tied for 14th most nationally over that span," ESPN writes
"Stepping into a remade Texas A&M wide receiver unit alongside transfers and Jonah Wilson
Concepcion could be the key in turning around an offense that finished 87th in passing yards per game in 2024."

INTEGRATING PHENOMICS AND GENOMICS TOWARDS
ACCELERATING GENETIC GAIN IN SOFT WINTER WHEAT
Members of the Examining Committee and their Department:
Accelerating genetic gain in plant breeding demands increased selection intensity
As phenomic platforms and genomic resources continue to evolve
integrating phenomics and genomics offers an unprecedented opportunity to improve breeding pipelines
This dissertation explores multiple approaches to incorporating phenomic information into wheat breeding alongside genomic data
aiming to increase prediction accuracy and selection intensity
and identify genomic regions for economically important traits in soft winter wheat
Infrared thermal imaging enabled high-resolution differentiation of Fusarium head blight-resistant and susceptible genotypes at the single-spike level
field-scale implementation requires careful consideration due to uncontrolled factors under field conditions
Hyperspectral imaging demonstrated superior predictive ability over genomic prediction alone for deoxynivalenol (DON) content prediction
Integrating phenomic and genomic prediction further enhanced prediction accuracy
allowing for genotype clustering-based selection on predicted DON content
multiple strategies for leveraging UAV-derived vegetation indices (VIs) were evaluated to improve genomic prediction accuracy
with varying degrees of success depending on the type of UAV-derived information used as fixed effect or secondary trait
phenomic data facilitated the identification of key genomic regions associated with DON content and grain yield
underscoring its potential as a phenotypic input in genome-wide association studies
these findings support the potential application phenomics-genomics integration in improving wheat breeding
careful consideration is essential when implementing combined phenomic-genomic approaches to ensure robust
Results from this work show potential advancements in predictive breeding
aiming to improve genetic gain in soft winter wheat

"The 5-foot-11 pass catcher broke NC State's freshman reception record (71 catches) and became a freshman All-American with 1,159 all-purpose yards and 10 touchdowns in 2023

Belichick and UNC general manager Michael Lombardi spoke with Concepcion’s camp on Thursday night
making clear the Tar Heels want to keep Concepcion in the state of North Carolina
The current plan is for Concepcion to finish his visit with the Aggies and head to Charlotte for the holidays
the wide receiver plans to visit Belichick at Chapel Hill
Concepcion is attracted to playing for Belichick, who is a six-time Super Bowl champion. Landing Concepcion would be a major portal statement for Belichick, grabbing the No. 3 player in the On3 Industry Transfer Portal Rankings. North Carolina has lost in back-to-back seasons to the Wolfpack.

It’s unclear who Belichick will roll out as his starting quarterback in 2025. Max Johnson is still on the roster, and the Tar Heels picked up a commitment from Purdue transfer Ryan Browne. Johnson suffered a season-ending injury in the 2024 season opener against Minnesota. Sources have told On3 that the Tar Heels tried to take a swing at Washington State transfer John Mateer, who committed to Oklahoma earlier this week.

By far the biggest addition is former NC State wide receiver KC Concepcion
but getting the best version of him will be critical
Concepcion had an excellent first season in 2023
both as a receiver and as a runner on gadget plays
NC State being a significantly weaker team in 2024 compared to 2023 - a 6-7 record vs
Now at A&M, though, Concepcion could be due for a bounce-back year, according to Bleacher Report's David Kenyon
North Carolina State Wolfpack receiver KC Concepcion reacts after scoring a touchdown against the Clemson Tigers
/ Rob Kinnan-Imagn Images"KC Concepcion already has an interesting journey," Kenyon wrote
he was a breakout star at North Carolina State
The freshman showed off his versatility with 71 catches for 839 yards and 10 touchdowns
adding 320 rushing yards at 7.8 per carry and throwing a 17-yard score
All of that production made him a second-team All-ACC selection
"But as NC State dipped from 9-4 to 6-7 last season
He reeled in 53 passes for 460 yards and six touchdowns
managing only 36 yards (and two scores) on 19 carries
Concepcion has since transferred to Texas A&M
where he's the veteran of the receiving unit and should be Marcel Reed's top target in 2025."
The Aggies were very much a run-heavy team in 2024
they averaged 195.8 rushing yards per game
they only averaged 210.3 passing yards per game
They'll definitely want to bump those numbers up in 2025
and that comes from both Reed's growth and the weapons around him
then it would go a long way to improving the Aggies' lackluster passing attack

Texas A&M continued its impressive run of transfer portal additions on offense with the commitment of former NC State wide receiver KC Concepcion
bolstering the Aggies' wide receiver depth for 2025 with a high-ceiling playmaker on the outside
This brings a conclusion to the portal recruitment of a player who was one of the best remaining prospects in the 247Sports ranking without an announced or reported commitment
247Sports rates Concepcion as a four-star transfer portal prospect
He was named the ACC Offensive Rookie of the Year in 2023 after a freshman season that saw him pull down 71 catches for 839 yards and 10 touchdowns while adding another 320 yards rushing
He was the all-purpose offensive star for a Wolfpack team that finished the regular season with five straight wins in a 9-4 campaign
and his return to Raleigh made him one of the stars to watch in the ACC
the production dropped a bit in 2024 (53 catches for 460 yards and six touchdowns) as Concepcion dealt with some minor injury issues and settled into a new role with a re-tooled offense
His decision to hit the transfer portal did not come as a surprise
but it did present an opportunity for multiple teams looking to add a player of his athletic ability
These additions showcase a concerted effort to boost the pass-catching options for an Aggies offense that ranked 13th in the SEC and 87th nationally in passing (210.3 yards per game)
NC State transfer KC Concepcion
one of the top receivers in the transfer portal
The Aggies have aggressively sought receiver help in the portal since it opened
looking to improve a crop of pass catchers that lacked elite production and struggled to consistently get open against high-end competition
No A&M receiver caught 40 passes or reached 600 receiving yards this season
As a proven receiver with 24 starts and 774 snaps on passing plays in two seasons
Concepcion was one of the most sought-after receivers in the portal
Concepcion caught 125 balls for 1,305 yards and 16 touchdowns
taking 87.2 percent of his passing play snaps from the slot

and a host of other ventures in the hospitality and service industries
Managing one business in itself already brings about its own challenges
but for someone who stands at the helm of these global brands
it’s easy to get caught up in the chaos of it all
he makes it a point to always be back home for dinner
I see how significant it actually was,” he says
“Sitting down together each night brings us back and gives my daughter something she really looks forward to
but it makes a huge difference for all of us.”
Michael has seen himself become more reflective of his own upbringing
He remembers days spent in offices and around family members who grew industries from the ground up
and have turned small startups into nationwide organizations
built their family name into one recognized by every household; the former being among the co-founders of NAMFREL (National Citizens’ Movement for Free Elections) during the 1986 snap elections
and the latter having steered Concepcion Industries into the industrial powerhouse it is today
led Standard Hospitality Group to grow a portfolio of restaurants in the Philippines
Michael knew that his entrepreneurial instincts weren’t solely inherited; they were shaped
The mentorship he received from his father and grandfather came in the form of questions each time he and his sisters stepped out to eat at a restaurant or shop for new things
his dad would ask him: “What could they be doing better
And what space are they serving?” These interviews may sound intense for the young Michael Concepcion
“that was just our household.” “[My dad] taught us to think strategically and be analytical
and see not only how we could improve on what existed but also what could be created.”
But Michael also embraced the opportunity to make something that felt entirely separate from his family
“I focus on living up to the goals and dreams I set for myself.”
Fashion was a path that he carved for himself
he resold sneakers online and created t-shirt lines
Michael’s family came in full support of his first venture; an eyewear store that paid tribute to his grandfather
“It was my small way of recognizing them and keeping their spirit alive through my work,” he says of Ronnie and Joe
the shop that eponymously bears their names
The concept store hinted at what was to come: minimalist interiors
and the cultish appeal that would define Michael’s future ventures
he would be the first to bring Commonwealth to the Philippines
an American-based sneaker and streetwear store
which housed a mix of labels that included the likes of A.P.C.
the boutique served as one of the first meccas for sneakerheads in the country
with monthly raffles and sneaker drops from coveted brand collaborations
The success of both Ronnie and Joe and Commonwealth helped steer Michael to a new vision
which was to bring Manila closer to the regional powerhouses overseas
“We noticed our friends traveling abroad to visit these stores and bring products back home
and we wanted to provide that same level of experience in Manila,” he explains
“We saw an underserved gap in the market and felt we could be the ones to introduce these concepts.”
Through his retail company, Welcome Worldwide, he’s curated a portfolio of international names by introducing Adidas Originals, Aesop, and, most recently, American workwear label Carhartt
I’m just glad that my portfolio has grown into what it is and that I can use it to open even more doors for myself,” he reflects
“My wife often has to remind me to take a step back and appreciate it all.” Through the constant demands of business
he’s focusing less on recognition and more on the everyday moments he shares with them
Michael is intent on passing down one lesson: “There’s something special about building something real
something that not only holds personal value

The NOTO Board of Directors selected Concepcion to serve as the organization’s chief executive officer in July
He has also served on the NOTO Board of Directors since 2020
"NOTO’s growth and development the past several years has been nothing short of phenomenal,” said Marty Schlossman
the NOTO Board selected Pedro as the best candidate to lead the organization and the NOTO Arts & Entertainment District to the next level of development.”

"I wanted to make sure that the momentum keeps going on and that we create partnerships and collaborations with the city and with the organizations."
Creating those collaborations comes with Concepcion's vision for NOTO to be a part of what he feels is a new era for the capital city
He said the district survives because of its entrepreneurs and artists
"I feel like we're going through this little renaissance where people are investing in themselves
where the city's trying to be bold and do new projects," he said
"I feel that lines up with my vision and the organization's visions
We're trying to make sure that we invest and double down on our local businesses in our district."
In addition to keeping the momentum of NOTO
its new CEO is also focused on bringing new strategies to the programming the district provides
"I think we are going to be hunkering down and creating programming that is more quality focused instead of quantity
We want to make sure that we do programming that the community really resonates with," Concepcion said
we're going to really strategically plan 2025 to look more focused on providing entertainment or artistic installations or artistic programming that really the community wants."
Concepcion said he's always open for discussion
"I'm always open for meeting people halfway
I feel that that's what NOTO embodies," he said
'The time is now to look into NOTO and to invest in NOTO'The NOTO district has seen various development efforts, such as the buildout of Redbud Park, which was completed in 2019. The land was donated by late Glenn Swogger
But Concepcion would like to see a new addition to the community — affordable housing
all this land is going to be more expensive and it's going to be harder for developers to build
the time is now to look into NOTO and to invest in NOTO."
The vision for housing is that it would need to be attainable and "something that is fair market" for residents
Concepcion shared that's his main goal is to of how to make his dream a reality by identifying what exactly affordable housing would look like for the district
"I would hope to have maybe an apartment or two where I can subsidize the rent for artists as long as they're committed to the district," he said
but North Topeka can be a place where everybody can invest and grow."
