Home/NewsMercedes-AMG Announces Limited-Production Special Edition GT 63 in Honor of Upcoming ‘F1’ MovieTo celebrate one of 2025’s most highly-anticipated films
Mercedes-AMG has announced a special edition of its GT 63
dubbed the “APXGP Edition,” limited to just 52 units
Expected to arrive in theatres near you this summer
F1 puts Brad Pitt in the driver's seat of some of the world's fastest and most advanced race cars
The film's aim for authenticity sees the use of actual Formula 1 race tracks around the world
where scenes have been filmed with real cars and real drivers
Since Mercedes-AMG is an official partner of Apple Original Films and Warner Bros
many of their exciting contemporary products are featured on-screen in the film
and the Mercedes-AMG Official FIA F1 Safety Car
To commemorate Mercedes-AMG's immersive involvement with such a massively anticipated film
the performance brand has announced a special edition of its GT 63 super coupe
Above and beyond the standard GT 63's handcrafted 577-horsepower twin-turbocharged 4.0-liter V8
the APXGP Edition gets a few extra goodies
pairing black satin with Race Gold accents which can be seen around the AMG-specific grille
on the front fenders alongside a checkered flag design pattern
The GT 63's 21-inch AMG Forged Cross-Spoke wheels feature the same Race Gold paint in matte finish
and its high-performance carbon ceramic brakes feature black painted calipers for contrast
Even more Race Gold accents are found inside the GT 63 APXGP Edition's luxurious cabin
which also features black Nappa leather/microfiber AMG Performance Seats with gold contrast stitching
carbon fiber trim elements with gold-colored threads
a heated AMG Performance steering wheel with black 12 o'clock markings and gold stitching
custom door sill trims with gold illumination
and AMG floor mats with the “APXGP” logo embroidered in Race Gold
The GT 63 APXGP Edition's cabin also comes standard with the 1,170-watt
15-speaker Burmester High-End 3D Surround Sound System
Each APXGP Edition owner will receive a “custom
edition-specific AMG Indoor Car Cover with a breathable outer skin made of tear-resistant synthetic fiber fabric and antistatic inner fabric made of flannel,” to protect their limited-run investment
Limited to just 52 units worldwide, the Mercedes-AMG GT 63 APXGP Edition will be rarer than rare. To put its exclusivity into perspective, consider that the Mercedes-Benz CLK DTM AMG Cabriolet had 80 units produced
and one of the rarest and most coveted AMGs ever built–the R129 Mercedes-Benz SL73 AMG–shared its gargantuan 7.3-liter V12 with the Pagani Zonda S and had about 85 units produced
This means you'll be incredibly lucky if you manage to get your hands on a GT 63 APXGP Edition

Red Bull team principal Christian Horner extended the olive branch to Mercedes after the pit lane incident in Miami
Said incident occurred during the sprint race and saw Red Bull’s Max Verstappen collide with Mercedes’ Kimi Antonelli in the pit lane
and with Verstappen penalised for an unsafe release
Horner took the chance to apologise to Antonelli and Mercedes
With the Miami track rapidly drying through the Sprint after unexpected heavy rain
the slick tyres became an intriguing gamble
once which the drivers ultimately took en masse
But, as Red Bull called in Verstappen from P3 and Mercedes boxed Antonelli from P4
Verstappen was released into the path of Antonelli
who had begun his turn into the Mercedes pit box next door
Antonelli showed quick reactions to turn back out
but could not avoid Verstappen hitting the rear right of his Mercedes
That resulted in a broken front wing for Verstappen and a 10-second time penalty for an unsafe release
no crew members at Red Bull and Mercedes were hurt
Mercedes team boss Toto Wolff had expressed his shock over a “total lack of judgement” from Red Bull
that would be seriously annoying,” Wolff told Sky F1
I’m surprised about a total lack of judgement there
because it wasn’t even close of releasing without any security concerns
👉 F1 2025: Head-to-head race statistics between team-mates
👉 Uncovered: The W16 rear wing solution that contributed to Antonelli’s Sprint pole
Verstappen finished P17 and last in the sprint after the penalty was applied
the mini-race having finished behind the Safety Car after Fernando Alonso was spun into the wall by Liam Lawson
scored one point in P8 after penalties for Liam Lawson and Oliver Bearman
the teenager having missed out on the chance to fit dry tyres due to that Verstappen collision
Verstappen would rebound to take pole for Sunday’s Miami Grand Prix
with Antonelli coming agonisingly close to making it a pair of poles
And Horner took the chance after qualifying to issue an apology to Antonelli
“And you’re talking about a judgment of about a meter
the determination to try and get the car back out there
it just demonstrates you’re always learning in this business.”

George Russell ended the Miami Grand Prix in third place but was subject to a stewards' investigation following a Red Bull protest
George Russell has retained his third place podium result at the Miami Grand Prix following an investigation by the stewards
Almost two hours after the Miami Grand Prix
Red Bull protested the result of the race as it called on the stewards to investigate Mercedes and George Russell
Verstappen raised distress over his team radio that Russell did not slow for a yellow flag issued during the race
The four-time champion was told by his team to keep the gap within five seconds of Russell at the chequered flag
hinting at the possibility that Red Bull would seek to protest the result
where Stephen Knowles and Gianpiero Lambiase represented Red Bull while Ron Meadows and George Russell represented Mercedes
Both parties presented their arguments to the stewards
the F1 stewards decided to dismiss the protest
ensuring Russell keeps his podium position
It marks Russell's fourth podium in the opening six races
placing him six points behind Verstappen in the drivers' championship

Falling tree limbs in Birmingham kills one person
— Mercedes-Benz has announced plans to produce a new vehicle in Alabama
footprint by localizing production in Tuscaloosa County
The company explained in a news release that this decision strengthens Tuscaloosa's role within the global Mercedes-Benz production network
Alabama lawmakers expressed their enthusiasm
Governor Kay Ivey addressed the news in a social media post
saying Alabama is the place to lead and the decision shows global companies have confidence in our state and workforce
Senator Katie Britt echoed this sentiment in a news release
calling the development "a huge win for our state." She added
"Our state has a global reputation of excellence
particularly when it comes to auto-manufacturing and production."

When asked if the decision was influenced by former President Trump's tariffs on imported vehicles, a Mercedes-Benz spokesperson said, "We have been localizing products for almost thirty years and if the market conditions are suitable we will continue to do so."
Details about the new vehicle remain unclear, but Mercedes-Benz has described it as tailored to U.S. customer preferences. Production is slated to begin at the Tuscaloosa County plant in 2027.
Questions about whether the new vehicle will create jobs or increase factory output and tax revenue remain unanswered, as a spokesperson indicated it is too early to tell. In 2024, Mercedes-Benz employed 6,000 people in Tuscaloosa, with the plant producing 260,000 vehicles that year.
Looks can be deceiving. This monstrous Mercedes might look like an original 190E EVO II but, under the skin, it's altogether different.
First, a little bit of history. The EVO II arrived as a final-throw-of-the-dice homologation special in 1990, and finally gave Merc a DTM title in 1992. With its striking aero kit and Cosworth 2.5-litre engine making 232bhp in road-going trim, the EVO II is a Mercedes icon. Not to mention it's one of the coolest cars ever built. Naturally, that makes original EVO IIs really quite rare, and really quite expensive.
So, enter Dom Tucci, an Industrial Designer at Tucci Hot Rods. With an original EVO II out of reach, he decided to use the learnings from his hot rod shop to build a personal tribute. Check it out above in the latest episode of American Tuned with Top Gear’s tuning correspondent Rob Dahm.

Cars, Mercedes-Benz
Mercedes-Benz introduced a super smart Automatic Lane Change (ALC) function on several models
ALC basically allows your car to decide when it’s time to change lanes
The feature works alongside radar sensors and cameras to monitor the car’s surroundings
meaning it ‘knows’ when it’s safe to change lanes.
DISCOVER SBX CARS – The global premium auction platform powered by Supercar Blondie
Assisted driving features are becoming more common across the automotive industry, from autopilot and automatic lane changing to Tesla’s Full Self Driving (FSD).
In 2023, Mercedes-Benz introduced its Automatic Lane Change to numerous models across its C-Class
The feature was initially only available in North America and China before launching it in Europe via an over-the-air update last summer
“With the Automatic Lane Change function, Mercedes-Benz is once again demonstrating its innovative strength in the development of new driving assistance systems,” said Mercedes-Benz member of the board of management Markus Schäfer
“We simultaneously developed the Automatic Lane Change function
Mercedes-Benz is offering a driving function as an over-the-air update for the first time.”
The smart technology works alongside Mercedes’ other assisted driving features to take some of the load of driving your car.
ALC uses radar sensors and cameras that continuously monitor the road.
it will change lanes to overtake a slower car and then change back into the original lane.
the tech will only work when the car is traveling at speeds 80km/h (50mph) and 140km/h (87mph)
the road or highway must have at least two separate lanes for it to work
the driver must remain in control of the vehicle at all times and is free to override it.

Lewis Hamilton has downplayed his initial Ferrari struggles
Lewis Hamilton has vowed that his initial struggles with Ferrari in Formula 1 are similar to the experience he encountered during his opening six months at Mercedes
Hamilton’s much-anticipated Ferrari spell hasn’t matched the enthusiasm attached to his groundbreaking move as the first five races haven’t inspired a single podium
The Briton has come unstuck in an attempt to build on notching Ferrari’s sole win to date in 2025 in the China Sprint
losing to Charles Leclerc in each race since then
Hamilton’s most recent defeat to his team-mate in Saudi Arabia saw him trail 30 seconds behind
prompting him to admit he is poised to endure a “painful” campaign
But having insisted he won’t give up
Hamilton has recollected that he went through an identical adaptation process when he departed McLaren for Mercedes in 2013
the first six months were tough getting attuned to working with new people,” Hamilton recalled to media including Motorsport Week
“The engineers I’m working with now are used to setting up a car for a different driver and a different driving style
and I’m used to driving a car with a different driving style
“So it’s a combination of a bunch of different things.”
Hamilton would go on to rewrite the record books during an illustrious spell with Mercedes as he clinched six Drivers’ titles in seven seasons between 2014 and 2021
Asked whether he was expecting a similar six-month timeline to start unlocking his best level at Ferrari
Hamilton responded: “I really don’t know
“We’re working as hard as we can to shorten that
Hamilton revealed that he utilised the gap prior to this weekend’s race in Miami to return to Ferrari’s base in Maranello to explore the cause behind his recent troubles
“Spent some good time in Italy,” he divulged
“There are things that we’ve made adjustments to
We’ll see how they work this weekend.”
But with Ferrari’s capricious SF-25 remaining unchanged
Hamilton admitted that he must maximise the car’s potential more than he has managed in previous races
“We’ll do the best we can,” he expressed
“We’ve not got upgrades or anything this weekend
but we continue to try and optimise the car
Charles in the last race [third in Saudi Arabia] did a fantastic job and showed what the car can do in a race
So the goal is to try to replicate that.”

Mercedes is betting that at least 52 people will love the upcoming Brad Pitt vehicle (pun intended) “F1” enough to drive it
The brand will build just 52 copies of a special edition 2026 Mercedes-AMG GT 63 Coupe built to commemorate the movie due out late next month
the film features Pitt as a Formula 1 driver who comes out of retirement to help a new team and train a rookie driver played by Damson Idris break into the ranks of the world’s most glamorous racing league
We can’t testify to the accuracy of a film we haven’t seen
But it has the potential to be one of the more authentic racing movies
Crews filmed the movie at real Formula 1 races
with today’s drivers playing background parts and Pitt’s fictional Apex Grand Prix team taking up real space in the paddocks with Mercedes
F1 legend Lewis Hamilton is a producer on the project
The Mercedes-AMG GT 63 APXGP Edition six-figure Happy Meal toy “features numerous unique design elements and equipment details that closely mirror the design from the film’s fictional APXGP Formula 1 team,” Mercedes says
Mercedes has not revealed pricing for the movie model
with a 577-horsepower hand-built biturbo V8 engine
Mercedes’ 4Matic all-wheel-drive (AWD) system
and the AMG Active Ride Control suspension with active roll stabilization
But the skin is movie-inspired in black with gold accents
matching the livery of the fictional racing team
A black-and-gold checkered flag design fades in a subtle gradient extending from the front brake vents
Matte Race Gold 21-inch cross-spoke wheels hide black brake calipers

As the marketing brain behind Mercedes in the U.S.
Lee is pushing to get in front of an entirely different audience
Kristen LeeWriterManufacturerPhotographerMay 05
Join MotorTrend in our celebration of Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month
you'll hear from the incredible people who have left their mark on the automotive industry
and right behind that is the business of selling them
Because as Mercedes-Benz North America’s straight-talking chief marketing officer
tasked with changing intangibles like brand perception and awareness
Leave the relentless selling of cars to the startups
It’s her job to preserve what’s come before her—and to influence today’s brand and products so they’ll be around for 140 years more
You’ve probably seen some of what Lee does even if you don't know it
She and her team are responsible for developing commercial social media
and expanding Mercedes’ overall digital experience
Lee has made sure to position her company alongside multicultural leaders to make creative decisions
Mercedes has held an event called The Table where a curated list of guests participate in an evening of cultural experiences and discussion
The inaugural event took place in Los Angeles and featured Black artists and creators such as Alicia Keys
No one was expected to sign the paperwork on a new Benz by the evening’s end
“It’s good business sense,” Lee told MotorTrend in a recent interview
“One hundred percent of growth in automotive is going to come from multicultural segments
Our traditional segments and audiences are shrinking because the entire makeup of the United States is changing
But it goes beyond simply pandering to the next target demographic
“There’s a lot multicultural marketing for the sake of saying you do it
‘If we're going to get our growth for multicultural segments
What are everyone's ideas for doing that?’”
In addition to supporting the local small business owners with Mercedes’ checkbook
Lee wants to provide an authentic experience that focuses on these communities in a way that Mercedes might not have before
and to start a conversation with these audiences that comes from a place where they might not be used to being engaged by the brand
Even if it means just starting to build the relationship by inviting people to something like The Table
“If I got you to think a little bit differently about Mercedes-Benz,” Lee said
Mercedes isn’t Lee’s first foray into the luxury automotive segment
she was the director of brand marketing at Cadillac
hired to inject some fresh life and youth into the then 110-year-old brand
She was there when Cadillac made its huge and controversial move from Michigan to Manhattan
Lee was certainly one of the youngest executives General Motors had ever hired
And that came with a whole bag of challenges
“I was like a fish out of water,” she said
“I was born and raised in Texas and moved to Detroit
My entire career at that point had all been crisis and financial communications
wandering the hallways of this very traditional automotive company
and I didn’t know cars the way all these guys did
GM is widely known for its insular and conservative corporate culture
and Lee spoke about not being taken seriously when voicing a differing opinion
“I was frequently asked in the Renaissance Center elevators if I was an intern for the company or how my summer internship was going,” she said
criticism [I heard] that I just ‘didn’t understand’ because I wasn’t an engineer or designer.”
People thought she and her team (also made up of a bunch of GM outsiders) were doing unnecessary things for the brand
“There was a lot of pushing water uphill,” Lee said
A few things Lee did manage to get through was the opening of Cadillac House
as well as the brand becoming a sponsor of the inaugural New York Fashion Week: Men’s event in 2016
Mendel even showed its collection at Cadillac House during NYFW
“We started to try to move ourselves into arts
and fashion in a way that Cadillac really had not participated in in a long time,” Lee said
“We [attempted] to position the brand as one that people wanted to be a part of and associated with.”
But perhaps the thing Lee is most proud of is Book by Cadillac
“I know subscription is still controversial
and I know a lot of people say it just flat out didn’t work,” she said
“But I think the success of it was it taught us a lot about consumer preferences and behaviors when it comes to buying a car.”
and the Book program was halted at the end of 2018
Subscriptions are now more the norm than ever
and the practice has expanded to a ton of other automakers
“I don’t know the last time the Germans followed an American company into anything
Porsche—they all followed Cadillac in that regard.”
Lee was at Cadillac for six years before departing in 2018 for stints at Shiseido
she’s very proud of what she and her team were able to accomplish
“I built a really strong relationship with the engineers and the designers,” she said
“I think I was able to illustrate if marketing wasn't there to help build and keep a strong brand
nobody would know about the products they put their hearts and souls into
The symbiotic relationship between brand and product became illustrative of my own internal relationship with the people who actually worked on the cars.”
Yet she also acknowledges it wasn’t a perfect time
I definitely had opinions without even thinking about why something might have happened or really understanding the context and the background.”
Like for every executive just starting out
the challenging early jobs yield some of the greatest lessons
And Lee certainly doesn’t regret her time at GM: “I’m still rooting for Cadillac.”
Lee didn’t think anything of taking on a colossal job like Cadillac
She owes her outlook and work ethic to how she was raised
“It’s the Asian upbringing of overachievement
“All those values came into play and really helped me out
some of the values and practices she instilled in me did come in handy in my career.”
To give back to the community, Lee has been on the board of Apex for Youth for the past four years, which is a New York–based nonprofit that empowers Asian American youth from immigrant and low-income backgrounds.
“It's about offering generational change for the Asian community,” Lee said. “Helping children is core and fundamental to what Apex for Youth does, but for me, there’s a much loftier goal: If we can unlock their potential, help them see their way through a mental health crisis, or get them mentorship, it can really create a more equitable future. If you can change the trajectory of an Asian child's life, it will shift the generation going forward.”

The FIA have announced the result of Red Bull’s protest against George Russell for allegedly failing to slow under yellow flags during the Miami Grand Prix
Russell had beaten Max Verstappen to the final position on the podium behind the McLaren team-mates
pipping the reigning World Champion by two seconds
was in jeopardy when Red Bull alleged that he had not slowed sufficiently when Oliver Bearman’s Haas ground to a halt
triggering the second of three Virtual Safety Car periods in Miami
Russell was able to claim a cheap pit stop in the process as the Mercedes driver dived into the pits for medium tyres and returned to the track ahead of Verstappen in P3
Verstappen was quick to come over the radio and query whether Russell had sufficiently slowed under the double waved yellows
Russell held on to that final podium spot to the chequered flag
Article 2.5.5 b) of the International Sporting Code
This particular section reads: “Double Waved Yellow Flag: Any driver passing through a double waved yellow flag marshalling sector must reduce speed significantly and be prepared to change direction or stop.”
👉 The results of the F1 2025 championship
👉 The updated Drivers’ and Constructors’ Championship standings
The FIA heard evidence from Red Bull and Mercedes
the former claiming that while Russell lifted the throttle when the yellow flag was displayed
Red Bull argued that ‘discernibly reduced speed’ meant ‘passing the yellow flag zone at an absolute speed which is lower than the speed before entering the yellow flag zone’ as Verstappen
countered that it was ‘common practice accepted by all teams and the FIA’ that ‘significantly lifting the throttle’ through a yellow flag zone is considered an ‘appropriate reaction’
Russell had therefore complied with the relevant regulations
he said that he saw the single yellow and had ‘significantly lifted the throttle to react to the yellow flag’
Mercedes also stated that the Briton’s lift was ‘more significant’ than what could be observed by other cars
ruling that the ‘protest is rejected as it is not founded’
Their statement read: “It was evident from the onboard footage as well as from telemetry that Car 63 lifted the throttle when passing the yellow flag zone
25 percent and this resulted in a reduction of torque of approx
a) requires the driver to have “discernibly reduced speed” in a yellow flag zone but does not specify if that means reducing the absolute speed or reducing the speed relative to the regular racing speed in the relevant part of the track
‘The speed of Car 63 in the yellow flag zone was considerably slower than the regular racing speed
but the absolute speed while passing through the yellow flag zone increased slightly
‘The Stewards determine that the requirement of Article 26.1 a) concerning the reduction of speed in a yellow flag zone can only relate to a reduction relative to the regular racing speed as the reduction of the absolute speed can
depending on the part of the track in which the yellow flag is displayed
represent a compliance or a non-compliance with the regulations whereas a reduction of the relative speed always signals that the driver has acknowledged and respected the yellow flag
in a braking zone the absolute speed can be reduced without necessarily complying with the regulations.’

In case you hadn’t heard, Brad Pitt is racing into cinemas this June with his long-anticipated Formula 1 film. To mark the occasion, Mercedes has decided to join the party by unveiling a limited-edition version of its AMG GT
this real special coupe will be limited to just 52 units worldwide and comes wrapped in a distinctive black and gold livery
styled after the fictional APXGP F1 team featured in the movie
This exclusive version of the Mercedes AMG GT is built on the GT 63 4Matic+ platform
which means it packs a 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8 pushing out 585 horsepower
What sets it apart visually is a matte black paint job paired with an unapologetically generous amount of gold trim

You’ll notice it right away on the grille
outlined in gold against a blacked-out backdrop
where gold stripes run down the doors and into the rear fenders
the paint transitions into a mix of black and dark grey patterns
Mercedes didn’t stop at a fancy paint scheme. The APXGP Edition also includes the AMG Exterior Carbon Fiber package and the AMG Aerodynamics package
There’s also the AMG Night Package II
bringing in more black accents to complete the look
The APXGP-inspired parts adorn the cabin as well. The AMG Performance seats have gold stitching and there are gold elements on the steering wheel
Merc’s sports car also rocks a Burmester 3D audio system with 15 speakers
and a ‘Limited Edition 1 of 52’ badge
While every current F1 team makes an appearance in the film, Mercedes-AMG played a larger role behind the scenes. The automaker provided several vehicles for filming, including an SL, a G-Class

The lack of an on-board voltage converter limits fast-charging flexibility in some regions for the German luxury automaker’s forthcoming all-electric sport sedan
The recently unveiled battery-electric Mercedes-Benz CLA
based on the German automaker’s new MMA platform
does not support 400V DC fast-charging in several European launch markets
the third-generation sedan relies exclusively on 800V charging points for electric energy replenishment – a decision that raises questions about its day-to-day usability
At the root of the issue is the absence of a 400V-to-800V
DC/DC converter in models launched in Germany
This limits fast charging compatibility to potentially rare – depending on the region – high-power 800V chargers
effectively excluding Europe’s 400V DC charging points
including 50kW public chargers and a large portion of Tesla’s current Supercharger network
Mercedes-Benz confirms the charging limitation of the CLA in its online configurator with the message: “Please note that charging at 400V charging stations is not possible
they are not shown in the navigation system.”
The restriction does not affect AC charging
so the CLA remains fully compatible with home wall boxes and public AC stations
400V alternating current flows into an onboard charger and is converted into 800V DC for the battery
The CLA supports up to a 325-kW maximum charging speed via the CCS standard – a figure that requires an 800V supply
Because CCS cables are limited to 500 amps
800 volts is necessary to exceed a 200-kW charging speed
the CLA cannot step 400 volts up to 800 volts and therefore cannot charge at 400V DC stations
Related:Aston Martin Pulls Wraps off 717-hp SUV
Rival automakers have taken a different approach
Hyundai and Kia equip their electric-powered E-GMP platform models
with internal voltage boosters to enable 400V-to-800V conversion and allow charging from older DC stations
Porsche and Audi use a split-pack battery strategy with their PPE-platform models
such as the second-generation Macan and the new A6
dividing the battery into two 400V sections – charging is then slower
Mercedes has chosen not to implement either solution in CLA models on sale in Europe
but it is only used to supply 12-volt power to auxiliary systems like infotainment and heated seats
Mercedes-Benz highlighted the CLA’s WLTP-rated range of up to 492 miles (792 km) for the rear-wheel-drive CLA 250+ sedan variant
it declined to explain why the model lacks a DC/DC converter in key launch markets – a feature commonly used by rival brands to ensure broader charging compatibility
range on paper is only part of the equation; the ability to charge reliably across real-world infrastructure remains a central concern
Related:Isuzu Enters BEV Pickup Segment
While 400V DC fast chargers are being phased out in favor of 800V DC ultra-fast chargers in much of Europe
many are still in operation – particularly in northern European countries like Norway
where public fast-charging infrastructure predates that of southern European countries
Speculation suggests CLA models destined for the Norwegian market will include the DC/DC booster
though this has yet to be officially confirmed

Their verdict read: "It was evident from the onboard footage as well as from telemetry that Car 63 lifted the throttle when passing the yellow flag zone

Kimi Antonelli delivered a magical lap to take a shock pole position in Sprint Qualifying at the Miami Grand Prix
as frontrunners McLaren were just edged out
which makes it difficult to predict how the next couple of days will unfold – but some sort of pecking order has started to emerge for the races in the Sunshine State

Mercedes confirms it will start building a "core" model in the U.S
Alisa PriddleWriterManufacturerPhotographerMay 01
chairman of the Board of Management of Mercedes-Benz Group AG
said the automaker wants to grow in the U.S
with 70 percent of production to be localized in 2027
He told investors during the company’s capital markets day that the Vance
plant was likely to get another “core segment” model (C-Class or E-Class)
as a way to hedge against proposed tariffs
While the German automaker is now confirming the plan to build something new in America
it still is not saying which model will be rolling down the line
Despite executives' previous hints that it'd be a C- or E-Class
Automotive News has reported the model could in fact be the compact GLC crossover
it's a vehicle that makes more sense for our SUV-crazed market than
“Tuscaloosa has been a key hub for Mercedes-Benz vehicles for almost 30 years
It’s a natural step to bring a further model to Alabama as part of a strategy to deepen our commitment to the United States
which has been our home for more than a century,” Källenius said in a statement
Tuscaloosa was the first major Mercedes-Benz plant outside Germany
The first model rolled off the line in 1997
Over the years the plant has made the R-Class
though today the C-Class is built in Bremen
The plant employs about 6,000 people currently and two-thirds of the vehicles from the plant are exported.
Red Bull have had their protest of George Russell rejected by the Stewards following the Miami Grand Prix
resulting in the Mercedes driver keeping his podium finish ahead of fourth-placed Max Verstappen
The Milton Keynes outfit submitted a protest earlier alleging that Russell had failed to slow under yellow flags
which if successful could have led to a penalty that would have promoted the Dutchman to P3 as he crossed the line 2.3s behind the Mercedes

When Ollie Bearman's Haas suffered a likely engine failure and became stranded on track
Russell elected to pit for fresh tyres under the beneficial conditions brought about by the Virtual Safety Car
and he ultimately returned to the track ahead of Verstappen in third
when Sauber's Gabriel Bortoleto pulled off the road with power unit problems
another Virtual Safety Car was deployed with Verstappen – still behind Russell – asking his team to "check if George lifted
Russell narrowly finished ahead of Verstappen in Miami
Red Bull subsequently launched a protest into the Briton
claiming he failed to slow under yellow flags
after the Stewards met with representatives from both teams
they concluded that the matter should be rejected
told media prior to the outcome confirmation: "We felt that Russell has done something that is in breach of the regs as they are written
so that's why we put a protest in today
The regulations say there should be a reduction in speed
and that is why Max flagged it immediately from what he saw within the cockpit."
2025 Miami Grand Prix: Russell emerges from the pits ahead of Verstappen to take P3
The document explaining the Stewards’ decision outlined that Red Bull accepted Russell did lift the throttle
but believed this did not slow him down enough and therefore went against the regulations
It added that there is no specific wording around whether reducing speed in a yellow flag zone means the "absolute speed" or "the speed relative to the regular racing speed" in that specific part of the track
They concluded that Car 63 was "considerably slower than the regular racing speed" when the yellow flag was shown
rejecting the protest and labelling it as "not founded"
The outcome means that Verstappen stays in P4 for the Miami Grand Prix and is just six points ahead of Russell in the Drivers' Standings.

Home » Latest » Mercedes-Benz » Mercedes GLB Electric (EQB successor) rendered ahead of its 2026 debut
The GLB, one of four models retained in Mercedes-Benz’s streamlined compact vehicle line-up, along with its electric equivalent, the EQB
will undergo a full model change next year
and the latter will be rebranded as the ‘GLB Electric.’ Here’s everything we know about the Mercedes GLB Electric so far
While test prototypes of the boxy next-gen GLB serve as a confirmation for the successor’s plan
Chief Executive Officer of the Mercedes-Benz Group
hinted that the new GLA and GLB would follow in the MMA market architecture series while explaining the future portfolio
we sort our world when we think about how our portfolio is built up – Top-End
where we have the E-Class and the C-Class and the GLCs and the GLE
The Mercedes GLB Electric is expected to feature a more offbeat character
the silhouette will stay close to the current model
maintaining a proper SUV stance and maximizing space
the front and rear will look visibly different
aligning with the new Mercedes MMA family look
An illuminated-star-studded faux grille should dominate the front of the Mercedes GLB Electric
The stars in the closed panel will likely light up and turn off in an animated sequence as part of a dynamic coming-home/leaving-home sequence
The functional air intake grille will likely be a much smaller unit located at the lowest part of the front
The headlamps will likely feature a gently curved rectangular shape and be connected via a continuous light band
Mercedes-Benz should give an option to specify a star-shaped daytime running light inside the headlamps for a more catchy look
retractable handles that sit flush with the body when the doors are locked would provide enhanced aerodynamics and a sleeker styling
The upright rear will likely feature new connected combination lamps
The interior of the Mercedes GLB Electric will be designed based on a new minimalist philosophy that reduces layers and excess controls
The dashboard should be dominated by an optional MBUX Superscreen
inspired by the MBUX Hyperscreen of higher-class Mercs but built to the cost
Mercedes-Benz will likely offer wireless Apple CarPlay and wireless Android Auto support
Augmented Reality navigation and traffic instructions
Level 2++ (urban & highway) point-2-point assisted driving should also be available as an option
The Mercedes GLB Electric will be based on the new
rear-biased MMA platform and feature an 800-volt electric architecture
Mercedes-Benz may offer it in 250+ single-motor RWD and 350 4MATIC dual-motor AWD variants
The former’s powertrain should develop 268 hp and 247 lb.-ft
The GLB Electric 250+ may accelerate from 0 to 62 mph in around seven seconds
and the GLB Electric 350 4MATIC may take close to five seconds for the same
marking a significant improvement over the EQB’s 99 mph
The 85 kWh NMC battery pack should support charging at up to 320 kW and take as little as just 22 minutes for a 10-80% fast-charging session
We estimate it to deliver an EPA-estimated range of around 325 miles in the 250+ variant and around 300 miles in the 350 4MATIC variant
The Mercedes GLB Electric will likely be unveiled in mid-2026
with European sales commencing in the summer of the same year
Given the uncertainty surrounding future plans due to the ongoing tariff dispute
the GLB Electric is expected to start at around USD 55,000

Moviemakers and Mercedes-AMG team up to show their excitement for the upcoming F1 feature film
Alex LeanseWriterMay 03
stars Brad Pitt and Damson Idris as Joseph Kosinski directs and Jerry Bruckheimer produces
The team behind the F1 movie partnered with Mercedes-AMG
which applied its expertise from winning multiple Driver’s and Constructor’s championships to create compelling racing visuals
and provided multiple vehicles to decorate various scenes
Now, the F1 filmmakers and Mercedes-AMG are celebrating their collaboration with a limited-run vehicle: The 2026 Mercedes-AMG GT 63 APXGP Edition
APXGP is the name of Pitt and Idris’ fictional team in the F1 movie
which was filmed at actual F1 races around the world
Although Pitt and Idris could never actually lap competitively against Mercedes-AMG F1 drivers George Russell and Kimi Antonelli
their car for the silver screen looks as legit as that of the Silver Arrows
Although this scheme is somewhat evocative of Lotus F1 racing teams of years past
the APXGP car’s black and gold livery serves as direct inspiration for the new GT 63 APXGP Edition
the GT 63 APXGP Edition then gains a variety of details painted in Race Gold—see the lipstick around the grille or accent on the rear diffuser
Providing a particularly race-inspired detail is the hand-painted checkered flag pattern applied behind the (also gold) front fender vents
Forged 21-inch gold-painted wheels painted tie it all together
On the back half of the APXGP Edition surrounding the fixed carbon fiber rear spoiler
there’s a gray geometric pattern shared with the movie race car
Open the doors and step past sill plates emblazoned with a backlit gold AMG logo
and you’ll find a cabin further adorned with the color reserved for a race winner’s medal
the APXGP Edition gains gold contrast stitching on the seats
The leather accent in the floor mats is itself accented with an embroidered gold AMG logo
Even the gloss carbon fiber trim has a special gold thread running through it
and AMG Aerodynamics packages included on the APXGP Edition
the car gains street presence and a bit of downforce for track driving
The GT 63 APXGP Edition will be limited to 52 examples
each adorned with a dedication plaque in the center console
An edition-specific indoor car cover is also included
a life-size inflatable Brad Pitt dummy is equipped to ride shotgun in the 2+2 coupe
Just kidding on that part—but if you see a black-and-gold GT 63 whizzing by
there’s a decent chance it’s the superstar actor behind the wheel
Mercedes has a massive U.S. plant, but the company imports a majority of vehicles sold in the country. The Trump administration’s trade war makes this a big problem
so they’re addressing it by announcing plans to build an all-new vehicle in Tuscaloosa
The automaker isn’t saying much at this point
but described the mystery model as a “core segment vehicle.” They also said production would begin in 2027 and the “new car” would be tailored to U.S

but the automaker later suggested this will be a “localization” effort
This implies the company is talking about an existing model
There’s no word on which one, but the Tuscaloosa plant specializes in crossovers as it builds the GLE, GLE Coupe, GLS, EQE SUV, and EQS SUV. Given this, it seems possible that Mercedes could bring the GLC to the plant
but the crossover is Mercedes’ second best-selling vehicle in the United States and is part of their so-called “Core segment.” Currently
Mercedes builds the GLC in Germany and China
they said the move further enhances their commitment to the North American market and is part of a “local-for-local approach.” They went on to note the Tuscaloosa plant has built over 4.5 million vehicles since 1997 and made around 260,000 vehicles last year
The automaker also dropped rhetoric seemingly designed for the Trump administration as they said they’ve “exported roughly two-thirds of annual output
making it one of the largest exporters of automobiles from the U.S.
Speaking of statements, Mercedes CEO Ola Källenius said “Tuscaloosa has been a key hub for Mercedes-Benz vehicles for almost 30 years
It’s a natural step to bring a further model to Alabama as part of a strategy to deepen our commitment to the United States
which has been our home for more than a century.”
Mercedes-Benz is expected to release a new car model in 2027—and it’ll be built right here in Alabama

Mercedes’ Exhibit A in this regard has always been its Geländewagen

This G-Wagen – £180,860 as tested – looks the part
high ground clearance and pronounced wheel arches
though: a 116-kWh lithium-ion battery and four individually controlled motors mounted near the wheels
Together they offer a range of up to 283 miles on a single charge and a maximum total output of 587 horsepower
It makes for a paradox on wheels: the G 580 is a vehicle equipped with the technology of the future
dressed in all the signifiers of an unrepentant past
The question about the G-Wagen has always been: why
The white paper provided with my loaner listed technology with more Gs than a Death Row Records reunion: G-Turn
with little utility beyond impressing the lads
G-Turn is an on-demand doughnut function that spins the vehicle around almost on the spot on loose or unpaved surfaces – a party trick sure to put a huge grin on your face
intended to liven up the otherwise silent vehicle by
rather convincingly piping in engine and exhaust notes over the Burmester sound system

contributes to making the electric G-Class a more capable off-roader than its conventionally powered counterparts
extremely Scottish off-road course set up in an old quarry
the G 580 handled itself like previous iterations of Mercedes’ go-anywhere truck
slippery hills with ease and remaining stable on sideways slopes of up to 35 degrees
Somewhat counter-intuitively for a vehicle built atop a massive battery
the electric variant is also capable of safely fording deeper water than petrol-powered models
Before one stretch of particularly sloppy trail
I turned on the G 580’s “intelligent” crawl function – more or less cruise-control for off-roading – and the electric motors maintained optimum propulsion through deep water and mud while I focused on navigating the terrain and not sweating through the heated and cooled leather seats
which is to say country lanes and highways
the G 580 is nowhere near as bouncy and clunky to drive as the conventionally powered G 63
Previous G-Wagens could make the old commute somewhat harrowing on the lumbar
Behind the wheel of the G580 © Mercedes-Benz UKAs you’d expect in this price range
the G 580 is replete with delightful little detailing
dash-mounted handles that make it easier to lug yourself into the vehicle
and the customary spare-wheel container on the back can be repurposed into handy storage for the vehicle’s charging cables
many of these – such as the slightly raised bonnet – subtly distinguish the G 580 from other Gs
But by branding this a Geländewagen first and an electric vehicle second
Mercedes seem to have hit on a winning formula for balancing new
green technology with classic brand appeal
inefficient ex-military vehicle necessary for drivers whose territorial conquests were most likely to end in
answering required a certain insouciance about the opinions of others
Mercedes has come up with plenty of more credible new answers
Even if one is never going to take it off-road

I realized just how powerful computer science could be—how flexible it is
and how it can be used as a tool for social good
I discovered that coding isn’t just about building apps or websites; it can be used to drive real change and make a positive impact in communities that need it most
That realization made me fall in love with the field
One of my favorite classes was a sports analytics course
Despite needing a few crash courses on the rules of football—shoutout to Dr
It was the first time in one of my classes where I saw how statistics and programming could directly connect with real-world events
It was exciting to realize that even fields like sports can be enriched with data science
and that there's a place for people like me
even if I didn’t grow up immersed in sports culture
One memory I’ll always cherish is the day my roommates and I picked up our foster dog
We weren’t technically allowed to have pets (apologies to our landlord)
We got him his first pup cup and gave him all the love (and a very long name)
Though he already came with the name Virgil Scrabble
he quickly became Virgil Tibayan-Ewing-Mamaril-Ortiz
and a little rule-breaking—perfectly captures the joy and spontaneity of my time at UA
I’m proud of finding my niche—of discovering a passion I truly want to carry into my career
My work as a data intern at the OHAIRE Lab
supporting research on how service dogs impact veterans with PTSD
So has my involvement with the WISE program
where I helped develop data science curricula for Title I high schools here in Tucson
Both experiences reinforced the idea that I can use my technical skills not just for innovation
but to uplift underrepresented communities and give back in tangible ways
That’s the kind of work I want to keep doing
I’m taking some time to travel and explore the world—something I’ve dreamed about for a long time
and gain fresh perspectives before diving into the next chapter of my journey

Lando Norris rounded out the top three finishers for sprint qualifying on Friday afternoon at the Hard Rock Stadium
While it is not an official F1 pole position for Antonelli
it is still a monumental moment for the 18-year-old
who was tasked with making his name at Mercedes after Lewis Hamilton left for Ferrari
Antonelli is the youngest driver to head a race grid in F1 history in any format
And it was one of the fastest laps clocked at Miami International Autodrome — a 1:26.482s lap
Max Verstappen established the lap record at 1:29.708s in 2023
which remains the official fastest lap as such times are set during race conditions
But Antonelli’s time eclipses the previous unofficial track record of 1:26.814s that Verstappen set in Q2 in qualifying for the 2023 race here
Verstappen will line up alongside Norris for Saturday’s race after qualifying fourth
with George Russell fifth in the other Mercedes and set to line up next to Charles Leclerc
I felt really good since this morning and I felt confident going into qualifying,” Antonelli said during his first post-sprint qualifying interview
but that’s a massive moment for Antonelli in only his sixth grand prix event at the top level
The 18-year-old has made a solid start in F1
picking up a couple of youngest driver records along the way
While this won’t be an official pole position in the F1 record books
it is still a mighty lap by the young Italian
Mercedes boss Toto Wolff took a leap of faith by putting Antonelli in to replace Hamilton this year
But the Italian’s performances early this year had already vindicated that decision
and this pole makes clear it was the right call
We’ve seen all the early signs from Antonelli that he has the makings of something special
He’s not been too far behind Russell through the early part of this year and it would always take a bit of time to find those extra couple of tenths to get ahead
But this result will surely go down as a moment that truly announces Antonelli’s arrival
if his career goes the way that Wolff and the others at Mercedes who have invested so much time into his rise to F1 anticipate
will be the first of many pole positions — official or not
Antonelli will face a challenge to keep the papaya McLarens of Piastri and Norris at bay tomorrow
But if his style in F1 has proved anything

| YouTube/FOX4 HoustonThe father of a Texas woman killed after a man she was with allegedly reached out to touch a Mercedes after a night out says his daughter’s accused killer must stay behind bars “permanently.”
Houston-area real estate agent Ashlee Long, 28, was killed on April 5 in downtown Dallas, according to Fox 4 in Houston
An arrest warrant affidavit cited by FOX4 states Long was with an unidentified male companion who “brushed his hand” along the side of a passing Mercedes
The vehicle’s passenger — identified as Kendrick Finch — exited the car “with a gun in his hand,” followed by the man who was with Long reaching into her purse to pull out a firearm
Finch surrendered to authorities on April 18 after police put out his mugshot on social media
Finch’s criminal record includes burglary and narcotics charges
He remains jailed in Dallas County on a $500,000 bond
released a statement mourning the death of his daughter and calling for Finch to stay in jail
“Ashlee’s life mattered. And so does justice,” Long wrote on Facebook Monday
“Kendrick Finch must remain behind bars — permanently
He should not be given the opportunity to walk free and make that choice again.”
Long said the the pain of losing a child is "indescribable."
"But to lose her this way — to gun violence at the hands of a stranger — is a trauma no family should have to endure," he wrote
"Kendrick Finch made the choice to take her life
He didn’t just end her future — he shattered the lives of everyone who loved her."
Long urged supporters to contact authorities to “keep the gunman Kendrick Finch and other criminals locked up in prison with no parole,” in a potential reference to the release last week of a suspect accused of killing 17-year-old Frisco high school student Austin Metcalf
Karmelo Anthony of Frisco Centennial High School, who faces a felony murder charge in Metcalf’s death, was released from jail after his $1 million bond was reduced to $250,000 by Collin County Judge Angela Tucker
“May 7th Kendrick Finch has an opportunity to go before the judge to ‘lower’ his bond,” Long wrote
Please help us from allowing this to happen.”

It’s the dawn of a new design era at Mercedes
the three-pointed star is unifying styling across its expansive lineup
future models will share the same design language
Just as today’s electric CLA looks nearly identical to the gas version
tomorrow’s EQS will be styled as an electric S-Class
The same strategy applies across other model pairs in the portfolio

Speaking specifically about the eccentric Vision V
Wagener described it as “damn sexy” and said it’s “very close to production.” He believes the concept’s radical front fascia “offers a lot of status and respect.” That’s open to interpretation
but it's important to point out that automakers often exaggerate features on their show cars to grab attention
Styling elements from the concept will influence production models, with even greater emphasis placed on the corporate grille. That doesn’t mean Mercedes will scale up grille sizes yet again
the brand aims to enhance the grille's visual impact by refining the shape and inner design
While tall front ends on SUVs and vans like the Vision V allow for oversized grilles
sedans and coupes are unlikely (and hopefully won’t) adopt such aggressive designs
Wagener no longer sees a need to differentiate ICE and EV models through distinct exterior styling
He argues that early EVs benefited from futuristic
aerodynamic shapes to help them stand out and boost efficiency
they can seamlessly blend in with conventionally powered vehicles
