started by a Czech-American couple looking for better options for their own kids
is on a mission to give parents more choices when it comes to primary education in the Czech Republic
Launched in 2021 with just four first-grade students, ZŠ Baltimore has seen significant growth over the last five years
with 80 students set to fill the newly renovated campus near the Beroun train station in September
The school’s lightning rise has been primarily fueled through a dedicated word-of-month campaign that quickly attracted an international student body excited by Baltimore’s modern approach to learning and small family atmosphere.
A common complaint of those considering public schools for their children is the state system’s regimented methods and crowded classrooms
where there is often no tolerance for a child who does not fit the status quo
These old-school attitudes – a holdover from communism – continue to frustrate both expat and Czech parents alike
Their journey to this point started years ago and was not without its own heartache and challenges
When Samuel and Aneta enrolled their son into a public kindergarten in Beroun
they immediately realized it wasn’t going to be easy raising a bilingual kid at state-run schools
Their son didn’t like going to kindergarten
and a constant string of complaints from teachers would be waiting for the parents at pickup
it was suggested to Samuel that he stop talking to his son in English at home as it was “bad” for his Czech.
“I thought that was just backwards thinking,” Samuel recalls of the encounter
we decided we were going to start our own little school.”
the couple was running a small language school
The space was mostly being used in the afternoons
and they started looking into the logistics of launching a community elementary school in the mornings
“Basically what this meant was that the kids were homeschooled
and we provided a private tutoring service,” says Samuel
and interest steadily grew for this small school
that fostered a lot of the values and teaching methodologies that families felt were missing on the local market
I wanted him to feel happy and safe and have a quality education,” says Aneta
“We started with one teacher and four kids
This year, the elementary school’s enrollment jumped to more than 80 students, while 20 kids came on board for Baltimore’s inaugural kindergarten class.
“This year was a breakthrough year for us because we finally got our accreditation and with that comes government subsidies per child and further opportunities,” says Samuel
which served as the inspiration behind the Beroun school’s moniker
agreed to back the school’s expansion efforts and help spearhead a multifaceted sports program
which will officially kick off in September.
In addition to its emphasis on bilingual education that supports individual growth and encourages curiosity
Baltimore offers a number of courses aimed at helping children from a young age prepare for life beyond school
The school also has a robust financial literacy program built into its framework
are part of the learning environment in an effort to make kids feel at ease navigating an increasingly tech-driven world
Our teachers are not just people who come to work
“We all feel like we really want to improve the education situation here
so everyone puts something of themselves – their hearts – into the school.
They envision one day having a school with hundreds of students filling its halls and sports fields
They are already finalizing design plans for a bigger campus
emulating in many ways how they built up Baltimore in its earliest days
“It’s been really challenging,” says Samuel
“We had no idea what we were getting ourselves into and how things would pan out
it’s been really fulfilling and worth it.”
This September, Baltimore is excited to launch a new sports program
featuring pilot pricing and flexible signup options

warning they can “capture data and faces” as they move
Jan Beroun, director of the Czech Republic’s Military Intelligence agency, warned the Czech Parliament earlier this week that Chinese electric cars roaming their streets could be collecting data for China’s government
and called the country “their enemy.”
“[If] we will allow Chinese electric cars here
we will allow a mobile sensor that collects data everywhere it goes
“I say with all responsibility that we are losing control of what is moving on our streets
what is capturing data and faces all over the neighborhood,” Beroun added
Beroun mentioned there is no way to regular Chinese EVs at the moment or to know where this data is going
and said that the “way China behaves
from the point of view of security and espionage
means that it is our enemy,” Beroun said
The Czech military official said each electric car, and some modern cars, have high-definition cameras which could capture data for the Chinese government, which is known for being a “surveillance state.” Chinese companies are required to cooperate with their government
“Every Chinese product that is capable of collecting data (electric cars
etc.) represents a security risk,” spokesman of the Czech Security Information Service
“The obtained data may end up with the Chinese intelligence services.”

Automotive expert Mike Caudill told Fox Business in April that Americans should “absolutely be concerned” about whether Chinese EVs in America are collecting their data and giving it to the Chinese government
The United States has already discouraged China from importing Chinese EVs and President Joe Biden has placed a 100% tariff placed on them in response to fears that the country could undercut the U.S.’s efforts in electric vehicles with cheaply-made products

Minnesota—a place he poured his heart into and called home
He passed away from a compilation of several recent health issues
surrounded by the love and comfort of his cherished home
A celebration of David’s life will be held at a later date at the Three Rail Ranch
as one of nine children in the lively and loving household of Burt and Charmaine Johnson
he purchased what would become the Three Rail Ranch in a bold and heartfelt attempt to win the heart of his high school sweetheart
Carol—who had always dreamed of having a horse of her own
That young act of love turned into a lifetime of shared dreams
and cherished memories with the family they built together
where he worked for over 15 years until 2020
He took great pride in creating a welcoming atmosphere—where friends could gather
he formed countless friendships and left a lasting impression on everyone who walked through the door
or a witty comment to bring smiles and laughter to those around him
David had a way of lighting up every room he entered
David was a proud and loving grandfather to Julia
each of whom brought him immense joy and laughter
He is also remembered with love by his siblings and extended family
Dave was so full of life and love when we would see him (most at the county fair) my sincere condolences
My heart breaks for the entire Johnson family
Growing up we always thought it was a treat to spend a little time around my friend Jimmy’s older brother
It’s easy to see how we and everyone was drawn to such a bright and affable person
Bone boy was always quick with a joke and quick to help you if needed
Him & I could be found hangin around with Kelly Tempesta
We once changed the name of a movie on the marquee @ the Terrace theatre to read “DAVE & PAM R FAT CATS
Hugs & prayers to Carol & the whole family
Dave will always hold a special place in my heart
You Johnson’s are some of the most important people in my life
I know there was a reason he was placed in my life
When my dad Bob called and shared the news I was in shock
I had just seen you twice in the last week at Timmys party and my grandpas funeral
Never forget your spirit and energy and sharing the spotlight with your brothers at the big family get togethers
The Johnson family was always so involved with the horse 4-H program
I remember David’s smiling face helping family and friends
getting kids ready to show and participate at the county fair
He is in heaven giving smack to my dad and all the other friends gone before him
Always a memorable time whenever you were in his presence !Playing softball with him was always good for a laugh
Later years we’d ride motorcycle to his saloon for a cold one Gonna mis his friendly spirt
you welcomed us and his dog with open arms
It was fun to see such a variety of folks coming and going
My favorite memories were getting to know the donkey that was painted green for the parade
buying the hand made rocker as a surprise and mist of all watching the lady ride her horse right thru the front door to get a drink 🐴
David the holidays and parties without you will never be the same but knowing that your spirit will live on is a comfort in our grief

The ambitious Beroun Tunnel project in Czechia – seeking to connect the capital with the Central Bohemian town of Beroun via a 13-minute train journey – has taken a significant step forward
The Czech Railway Administration has submitted documentation to initiate the Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) process
a necessary step during the construction process
This new initiative is poised to transform the country's railway network and enhance regional transportation
The EIA process involves a comprehensive evaluation of the environmental consequences of tunnel construction
A binding opinion on the project's environmental impact is expected by the earliest in the first quarter of 2024
the Beroun Tunnel project aims for completion in eight years
with an estimated total cost of around CZK 46 billion
it will surpass the current record held by the 4.1-kilometer Ejpovický tunnel
becoming the Czech Republic's longest railway tunnel
from the transport faculty of the Czech Technical University in Prague
noted that this marks the second attempt to realize the Prague-Beroun railway connection via a tunnel
Had preparatory work not been halted in 2010 due to cost concerns
the tunnel might have been in operation today
The Beroun Tunnel promises to revolutionize regional travel
significantly shortening the journey from the Praha-Smíchov station to Beroun to a mere 13 minutes
taking just 45 minutes instead of the current hour-plus commute
The tunnel will accommodate long-distance passenger transport
This will alleviate congestion on the original railway route
allowing for more frequent and rapid passenger and express train services
it will reduce noise pollution near the existing rail line
the Central Bohemian region plans to introduce a new transport concept featuring fast regional train connections
offering a competitive alternative to bus and car travel to Prague
This initiative aims to ease road and highway congestion while shortening commute times for travelers
The Beroun Tunnel project is part of a broader effort to modernize the Praha-Smíchov to Beroun railway line
with the tunnel as its most extensive section
The initiative also aims to enhance international connectivity along the Prague–Pilsen–Nuremberg/Munich rail line
preparations are underway for extensive underground work on the Prague-Václav Havel Airport railway connection
involving a tunnel complex integrated with the Kladno line
several tunnel projects are planned for high-speed rail lines
including the Středohorský and Krušnohorský tunnels
each potentially spanning up to 31 kilometers
These developments promise to revolutionize rail travel
significantly reducing travel times and enhancing connectivity in the region

George “Buck” Reiser of Rush City died Sunday
2019 at Fairview Southdale Hospital in Edina at the age of 84
1935 to George and Anna (Schumacher) Reiser in Mission Creek Township
When George was about 6 he started country school while they lived there and would walk two miles with his cousins
That year the snow was so deep that if they walked on the banks they could touch the phone lines. The family moved several times so he also went to the Beroun School which was a one room school and then from 5th grade on up to schools in Hinckley
For a while he had to ski a couple miles across a swamp to catch the bus for an hour ride to the school in Hinckley. He had a 1929 Model A Ford he had bought for $50 and the Country School district they lived in paid him $7 a month to drive himself to school
In high school he lettered for being a reporter on the school paper
track and was also given a Certificate of Service from the American Legion for being a member of the School Safety Patrol. He graduated from Hinckley High School in 1954 when they were still the “Vulcans.”
Growing up George worked on the family farm. They did share-cropping for people and cattle for the people who owned the property plus their own. They milked 45 cows between the two farms and farmed with 3 teams of horses
After one year they got an old tractor but only used it for plowing and heavy work but stilled used the teams for planting
and cultivating corn. About 15 to 20 farms would get together for a Threshing Ring
His job was to shock the grain in the fields and then usually would help with sacking the grain or hauling it to the granary. They also had the same arrangement for Goose picking
They would do 50-75 a day and when dressed out would take them to Duluth right before the Jewish holidays to sell
he worked for a lot of farmers around the Hinckley area and then worked on the railroad as a tamper and maintenance person during the summer when he was 17
After graduation he worked at the Pine City Feed Mill
he met Marlene Bell and they were married October 24
In January of 1960 moved to Owatonna to work on a farm
Bonnie was born here in 1960. He moved back to St
Paul where he worked at Conpro for 23 years
They drove up to Mora where Steven was born in 1961
Then in the fall of 1964 they moved back to the home area and bought a house in Rush City where they still live
Three more children were born there - Karen in 1966
His and Marlene’s gardens were the envy of a lot of neighbors over the years and they raised almost all their meat and vegetables on their one acre. In 1985 he started work at Plastech in Rush City as a machine operator and then went to janitorial
He worked there for 14 years before retiring
He became a member and was baptized by Pastor Noenning July 8th
John’s Lutheran Church in Rush City and was an usher at the church for a number of years. He was a scoutmaster for a number of years and helped out with the Rush City High School Band Boosters when his children were in school

A brand new psychiatric unit that opened Tuesday in Beroun
Central Bohemia is possibly the most modern and advanced psychiatric facility in Central Europe
Located in the Beroun Rehabilitation Hospital
the center is set to accommodate over 200 patients and provide around 300 jobs
Minister of Health Vlastimil Válek pointed out that the Central Bohemian Region has so far lacked a large psychiatric facility.
The new center will provide various types of facilities, including art and music therapy, a sauna, virtual-reality devices, and a gym. At present, it provides inpatient care and plans to open an acute, emergency service in 2023 according to its website
The facility says that it has a contractual relationship with all health insurance companies
"We are bringing several fundamental care innovations
We concentrate good practices from many other facilities in one place
New technologies will also be an advantage
we are proud of [our use of] circadian biodynamic lighting,” said a psychiatrist who will work at the center
Válek said that the new unity is funded via private sources – this is a rarity
because “psychiatry is not seen as a field that is economically profitable for a private entrepreneur.” He also explained that many hospitals technically lose money on psychiatric wards
"Even though the reform of psychiatric care has been underway in the Czech Republic for several years
One of the most serious is the insufficient capacity of workplaces”
which belongs to Greek businessman Sotirios Zavalianis
the Multiscan Pardubice radiology and oncology center

one in five Czechs suffer from some form of mental illness during their lifetimes
but not even half of those who are unwell receive professional care
Czech Prime Minister Petr Fiala also mentioned that mental health care has long been one of the weakest areas of the Czech healthcare system.
director of the National Institute of Mental Health
mental illness today accounts for roughly 15 percent of all domestic illnesses
about one in 10 women and 6 percent of all men suffer from an anxiety disorder or depression
The opening of the center at least partially alleviates Central Bohemia’s struggles with tackling mental health issues – the government and public will hope that future such facilities will open nationwide
