Czech Republic (BRAIN) — After more than a year of negotiations the Czech Republic bike manufacturer Bike Fun International s.r.o
the company declined to reveal the sales price
"The sale of BFI has been our long-term goal
the company has entered such a rapid phase of growth that me and other owners have not been able to finance it in the long run
And just at the right time we were contacted by the Consillium investment group who have the necessary funds to finance the company's growth
I am glad that BFI will be in Czech hands," said BFI founder and CEO Mark de Kwant
BFI has been in the hands of a Dutch investor group around de Kwant
Under their guidance the manufacturer is not only relying on its three private label brands (Superior
Rock Machine and Frappé) that they preferably sell on the European market
but also on increasing close-to-market OEM-production
The BFI factory in Kopřivnice (about 10 miles south of Ostrava airport) produces almost 200,000 bicycles and e-bikes per year
the company is also engaged in the development of an electric drivetrain called "Sport Drive" and the production of bicycle accessories under the brand name "One Bikeparts." BFI's total revenue last year was 105 million euros ($124.21 million) – and according to the company sales are still on the rise
BFI is now completely taken over by ConsilTech a.s
— a member of the Czech Consillium group owned by billionaire Tomáš Němec
The former ski racer holds a majority stake in Austria's traditional ski brand Kästle as well as at stake in the sporting goods distribution company LevelSportKoncept Ltd
LevelSportKonzept distributes international sporting goods brands including 100%
and other bike-related brands.Consillium says it does not plan to change the portfolio of BFI brands
What they want to do it to strengthen their development and support expansion into global markets
"We will support not only the foreign expansion of our bicycle brands
but also the growth of the offer for OEM customers
We want BFI to continue to grow because we know that this company and the people in it have what it takes to succeed," said Consillium's CEO
Tomáš Klápště.BFI currently sells bikes and accessories in 29 (mostly European) countries
The course for further growth has already been set
"In January 2021 we will be launching the ninth production line and the launch of the tenth will depend on the supply of materials
In order to grow we need to find a lot more new employees in the coming months," said de Kwant
The company's strategy thus remains the same as before the change of ownership: "To increase production
offer top customer service and support new markets"

People have always been fascinated by railways since they were first invented back in the early 19th century
Generations of children played with their model railways and dreamt of becoming a locomotive driver someday
the African Explorer and the Trans-Siberian Railway
are still exciting travel destinations today
One example of a railway legend is the Slovakian Arrow
It operated on the express line between Prague and Bratislava
the Czech engineer Josef Sousedík developed new locomotives that were incredibly powerful for their time
The appearance alone was spectacular – bright red with a protruding nose like a dolphin and with luxurious interior fittings
At a time when steam locomotives were dominant everywhere
the prototype reached speeds of up to 148 km/h on the test track
The incredible speed was achieved not only thanks to the timeless aerodynamic design
but primarily due to the special electric drive
Sousedík’s original approach to power transmission was revolutionary and unique in the world
the train started with an electric drive and the multi-disc clutch that connects the petrol engine only switched on when the it reached a speed of over 80 km/h
This hybrid transmission combined with powerful motors and low weight made for an extremely dynamic ride
But the Slovakian Arrow was only in service from 1936 to 1939
the luxurious trains no longer fitted into the Socialist world view and so they ended up in the Tratra Kopřivnice factory museum
where they were exposed to the elements and suffered significant damage over the years
All the cables used are specially designed for rail vehicles in compliance with EN 50264
The “Arrow” should be on the rails again by the end of 2020
It will be on display in a new outdoor building at the Tatra Museum in Kopřivnice
where it can be marvelled at by railway fans with protection from the elements

The Chestnut House marks the first project by architecture studio Valarch and it’s located between Kopřivnice and Štramberk in the Czech Republic
The house was built on a small plot of land with an old chestnut tree growing front and center
Inspired by a green-shelled chestnut cracking open
complementing the lush greenery surrounding it
untreated wood that’s burnt on the surface to get its dark coloring
The residence comprises two structures under a shared roof
the larger one housing the main living areas and the smaller used for all the technical equipment
The interior benefits from an angled roof which allows for tall ceilings and clerestory windows that fill the space with natural light
The extra space also makes way for a guest loft above the kitchen
The architects locally sourced the wood and kept the materials simple on the inside using full sheets of plywood for walls and ceilings

Speedway GP star Jan Kvech ended his wait for a first Czech Republic Individual Speedway Championship after storming to a 15-point maximum in Pilsen on Wednesday
Despite becoming the country’s first full-time Speedway GP star since Lukas Dryml in 2008
Kvech had never claimed his national crown
But he went unbeaten over five rides to triumph in round two ahead of Prague teammate Daniel Klima (14 points) and Jan Macek (13)
Kvech finished third at the opening round in Kopřivnice with 12 points and topped the championship podium on 27 ahead of Macek
with Prague’s Jaroslav Vanicek placed third on 21
Kvech’s chances were helped by the loss of Prague’s teenage sensation Adam Bednar
who won the opening round in Kopřivnice on 14
but was forced out of the Pilsen round after one second place due to illness.
former champion Vaclav Milik – second in the opening round on 13 – was also sidelined as he recovers from a broken arm
Kvech hopes to build on his national title win with a big performance at the Deluxe Homeart FIM Speedway GP of Denmark – Vojens on Saturday

ZMARZLIK LANDS MAXIMUM POINTS IN LANDSHUT AFTER SPEEDWAY GP & SPRINT DOUBLE
ZMARZLIK TAKES SPEEDWAY GP WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP LEAD AFTER WINNING LANDSHUT SPRINT RACE
Emil Zátopek began his illustrious Olympic career by running the 10,000m at the 1948 London Games
He took the lead during the tenth of 25 laps
Eventually he lapped all but two runners and won by more than 300m
Zátopek thrilled the crowd with a sprint that pulled him closed and closer
Reiff noticed Zátopek just in time and won by 1½ metres
but they were only a prelude to what he accomplished at the 1952 Helsinki Olympics
he was in only fourth place with half a lap to go
but he sprinted into the lead in the final turn and won by five metres
He entered the marathon even though he had never run one before
he easily wore down all of the other runners and won by 2½ minutes as the appreciative Finnish spectators chanted his name
Emil Zátopek is the only runner to win the 5,000m
the 10,000m and the marathon at the same Olympics
He entered the Olympic marathon again in 1956
but developed a hernia only six weeks before the Games
