on any celestial journey to a golden pasture
or to join either (or both) of my beloved husbands
I didn’t go to meet anyone who may have died before me and there are no heavy hearts and sadness — I have simply died on March 15
attending school at Eastdale and Cloverleaf High School until the age of 16
culminating in my final career at Air Canada
I married Thomas Murray Clearwater in 1977
We enjoyed our travels throughout the world
I subsequently married William Edward Downard in 1991
finally limiting our travels to our home in Surprise
At my request, no service will be held. If you wish to donate to a charity in my memory, please do so to the KGH foundation
so I’ll say goodbye and not au revoir because “au revoir” means “until we meet again”
and we all know that isn’t going to happen

Everything was so organized and pertinent to what we needed
courteous and very helpful during our emotional and challenging time
They were so prompt on answering any questions and changing things
They were prepared and respected any religious decisions
The process was so seamless and made easy in such a high stress situation
In the past 2 years Springfield has helped us through the death of my Mother and my Father
Their response and help allowed us to focus on the remaining family rather than worrying about details of the funeral and all the notifications that are required upon a death
The atmosphere has been nothing but professional during times of grief
the staff coached me on the next steps and looked after filling in all the government forms that I needed to sign
which took a huge burden off my mind at the time
From the time I called to the completion of all the services
There was a sense of caring from each staff member
I was turning over my Mom to their care and I felt very comfortable with everyone
I felt heard and never felt pushed into any decision
I have always found the team at Springfield Funeral Home to be VERY caring
I have and will continue to recommend them to anyone who asks which funeral home would I suggest they use
No other funeral home I have dealt with even comes close to Springfield Funeral Home
I was made to feel as if I was the only one they had to serve
Everything that was arranged for us was perfect
Thank you for making this difficult time a little more acceptable via your staff’s obvious caring and respect
I liked the personal treatment given to my mother who is 97 years old
I found Springfield employees pleasant and sincere
was that the funeral home would help me get through the paperwork need at this time
Since this was my first experience (with a funeral home)
everything was above and beyond what I expected
Thank you to your team for your kindness to me at a very challenging time
You have now taken care of both of my parents with professionalism and care
Springfield Funeral Home is always professional
We appreciate that you have dedicated staff for all needs from planning the service to completing government paperwork
I am not sure there was anything you could have done to make a very intense emotional time less stressful
Although we hadn’t expected Ken to want a service
when he said we needed to have one for us not him
Your sincerity and compassion meant everything to us
your compassion and professionalism is truly amazing
super professional and caring as each guest arrived
Keep up the good work that you do as it is such an important service you provide
It is still the most difficult time in a person’s life
We appreciated the peace of mind that everything was being looked after
You provide a wonderful service for people going through a traumatic time
The kindness and professionalism shown by the staff at Springfield Funeral Home was exemplary
Why I picked Penn Highlands: “Because it is a college that is close to home and it gave me a chance to continue my wrestling career.”
Greatest high school achievement: Two-time district placewinner
Coach Christian Harr’s quote: “We are very proud of the commitment and are excited for Logan to continue wrestling at the next level
feel and work ethic drive him into the future
and we are hopeful for continued success in both athletics and educations.”
How I got my start wrestling: “My dad introduced me to the sport when I was young and I grew to love it as I competed.”
What getting to wrestle in college means to me: “An opportunity to compete at a higher level.”
Probable college major: Secondary education

as well as the importance of well-planned organization and collaboration with local partners
He also shares his experiences and plans for future conferences
emphasizing Dubrovnik's role on the global conference scene
How many events have you organized in Dubrovnik so far
What has your experience been like as an organizer
I have been coming to Dubrovnik as a conference organizer since 2010
which in itself shows that there is good cooperation and satisfaction among all involved parties
Besides the cooperation between conference organizers on one side and the destination
it is crucial to highlight the importance of participant satisfaction with both the conference and the destination
It is extremely important for conference organizers that participants return to the conference and become ambassadors for it within their institutions and countries
that they return as tourists in the coming years
How would you describe your long-term cooperation with Dubrovnik as a conference destination
What makes Dubrovnik special for organizing international conferences and congresses
and what are the key advantages of Dubrovnik compared to other cities in Croatia and the region
From the perspective of a conference organizer
it is also very important to have conference infrastructure (halls
additional activities) and hotels of various categories
it is important to highlight the experience and strategy for developing conference tourism because it differs from "regular" tourism
Were there any interesting people or situations that particularly impressed you during the organization and participation in conferences in Dubrovnik
and with whom I have developed deeper collaborations
but since I have met and worked with so many wonderful people
I won't mention specific names to avoid leaving someone out because they are all important reasons why we keep coming back to Dubrovnik
but I remember our first conference in Dubrovnik in 2010 when a downpour started during a city tour
The guide incorporated that unfavourable situation into the story they were telling the participants during the tour
the 15th GBC conference will be held in Dubrovnik
What are the main themes and goals of this conference
this year we are organizing the 15th GBC conference
and the theme is “AI's Impact on Global Prosperity: Shaping the World Economy.” When selecting the conference theme
we always try to choose one that is not only currently relevant but will also have an impact on the global economy in the future
we have to consider what is relevant on a global scale
I can already say that besides participants from Europe
we also have participants from South America
How important is this conference in the business world in general
what key messages and trends do you expect to be emphasized
and how important is it for promoting Dubrovnik on a global level
and people from the business world do not participate in large numbers at such conferences
what comes out of such conferences is the exchange of knowledge and experiences from different economic
bringing new insights to the business sector
This conference includes professors in management
which is essential in today's world (narrow specialization is a luxury that only a few can afford today)
One of the topics that will definitely be discussed is how much AI can replace humans and how that will affect business and life in general
it is extremely important to us that participants are satisfied and become ambassadors in their countries
not only of the conference but also of the destination
This is very important for Dubrovnik and Croatia because I know that some of them
How do you see the future of Dubrovnik as a conference destination
further improve its position in the global market
Dubrovnik has everything needed for conference tourism
it would be good to extend the conference season
meaning to have more content available throughout the year
it is very important to have available accommodation capacities of all categories because the business policies of many universities
and projects are such that they finance accommodation in three-star or
What might be a challenge in the future are high service prices – I'm not saying they aren't justified or that they don't follow the global situation
but it is something that organizers and the destination itself must keep in mind
What does it mean for you to be a Croatian Congress Ambassador
and how does that role contribute to promoting Dubrovnik as a conference destination
Being a Croatian Congress Ambassador and being among other ambassadors is
and then a challenge and responsibility to promote Croatia as a conference destination
the Global Business Conference is always there
the Odyssey conference will be held in Dubrovnik next year
There are also other plans to bring some events to Croatia

A Kalamazoo College student is being honored by a national nonprofit organization for his work as a K Votes Civic Engagement Scholar
a philosophy and political science double major
is one of 137 students from across the country to reach the Student Voting Honor Roll through the ALL IN Campus Democracy Challenge
The challenge is celebrating advocates such as Krupka
nonpartisan efforts to achieve excellence in democratic engagement while improving civic learning and voter participation
Civic Nation works to build a more inclusive country by bringing together individuals
industry leaders and influencers to tackle social challenges
“It is an honor to be recognized among the other students from around the country for the work we have done here at K,” Krupka said
“I feel humbled to be among so many others since it shows the extent to which these projects are collaborative
Fostering an engaged community is a job much larger than a single person
far more than just one person has taken up this task
I hope that K continues to see its students honored in similar ways as the years go on
Krupka helped his peers at K register to vote, learn about the issues at stake, and find information on critical ballot measures in local and state races in 2023 through K Votes, the non-partisan coalition that informs K students, faculty and staff members about voting and civic engagement through the Mary Jane Underwood Stryker Center for Civic Engagement (CCE)
He said he initially found out about K Votes through a friend he met in a Constitutional and Race Law class taught by Associate Professor of Political Science Justin Berry last year
The CCE aims to provide everyone—from first-time voters to those who have voted for years—information on the voting process, registration and knowledge regarding what their vote means. It has worked with dozens of faculty and staff for more than 15 years to support student-voter engagement
CCE post-baccalaureate fellows and paid student Civic Engagement Scholars have built community connections and campus structures through K Votes
Those efforts have helped hundreds of students through quarterly voter education events
and the countless individual efforts by students to get their votes cast
The world is bigger than what is in our books.”
ALL IN Campus Democracy Challenge Executive Director Jennifer Domagal-Goldman said students have a powerful role to play in fostering active and engaged campuses and getting their peers to participate in democracy regardless of whether it’s a presidential election year or one with critical state and local races on the ballot
“These honorees hosted candidate information sessions
created guides on polling location accessibility
registered their peers to vote and so much more,” she said
“We know these students will continue to make a difference in our democracy.”

With a resume that boasts two Sac Joaquin Section Championships
16 Central California Conference Championships – 14 of which were won in consecutive years – and a Sac Joaquin Section Model Coach award
Mary Krupka stands as one of the most decorated and successful coaches in Turlock High history
the longtime Bulldog coach has one more accolade to add to her collection after being named the National Federation State High School Association’s Coach of the Year for girls golf
I’m honored that they would pick me,” Krupka said
Although she’s one of only 28 recipients of the NFHS Coach of the Year award
Krupka admits she didn’t know it existed before she received an email from Turlock High Athletic Director Mike Brown detailing her achievement
“Some schools are lucky to have a golf team
We usually always have 15 to 16 kids on the golf team,” Brown said
“She really gets involved with the girls.”
Krupka began her coaching career at her alma matter of Edison High in Huntington Beach before moving to Turlock where she attended California State University
Stanislaus and began working at Turlock High
A multi-sport collegiate athlete with experience playing basketball and tennis
Krupka displayed the same king of versatility as a coach as she helped lead basketball
softball and volleyball teams for the Bulldogs
it wasn’t until she took over the girls golf program from Frank Cusenza 14 years ago that Krupka truly found her niche
“Coaching golf is different than all the other sports on campus
In many ways it’s a one-on-one coaching relationship with each player
and then it’s a big relationship with the team,” Krupka said
Since taking over the girls golf program Krupka’s teams have been unstoppable in league
a feat that brings Krupka more joy than any individual award
I consider that the highlight of my career,” Krupka said
“I like those (awards) but I’d rather win league every year.”
with Turlock’s exit from the CCC and its entry into the Central California Athletic League
Krupka is preparing to introduce her girls golf program to a new crop of opponents and extend both her and Turlock High’s legacy of dominance on the golf course
“It was great to say goodbye to all the Merced and Atwater schools by beating all of them,” Krupka said with a laugh
“But I’m excited about the new challenge,” she added

things are just as they are; if you do not understand
things are just as they are.” Hsin Hsin Ming
Almost every person who walks through my practice doorway is anxious in some way
While their anxiety might be blasting messages at an overly high volume
the messages themselves are worth paying attention to: abusive relationships
significant losses and workplaces that have squeezed their personal
physical and spiritual lives into a corner too small for a hamster to burrow in
Most come in hoping that the volume of their anxiety will be turned down
but many also hope that the messages themselves will go away
they want to find a way around having to take difficult action to change their lives
their hopes are pinned on our current corporatised misinterpretation of mindfulness
They’ve been sold on meditation as a simple way to bear the unbearable
Pasteurised versions of the ancient practice of mindfulness are now big business. With Google, Target and Ford recently jumping on the corporate mindfulness bandwagon
the rebranding of mindful meditation and practice as a means to increase both productivity and compliance is now complete
Slowing down, tuning in and radical acceptance have been molded into low-cost tools to increase our ability to speed up, tune out and drive ourselves harder than ever before
While there can be little doubt that the practice of mindfulness can lead to significant health benefits
its current prominence in corporate culture is nested within a social
cultural and political context where stress is now seen as a failure of the individual to adapt to the productivity demands of the corporation
you’re not working hard enough on your personal focus strategy
The current translations of ancient mindful practices are also highly gendered
In a culture where women are much more likely to be encouraged to apply acceptance
stillness and the relinquishing of resistance to their problems
the trap of mindfulness can be set to stun for those who may be much more in need of speaking up
resisting and taking space in the workplace
mindfulness is an ideal tool to induce compliance
with its focus on the individual management of our responses to forces we’re being told are well beyond our control
And this is perhaps the crux of the problem of the mindless application of Buddhist meditation practice: the marketing of mindfulness as a solution to work stress and life balance rather than the complex spiritual approach to living it is meant to be
of what is essentially a way to exist with full awareness
with a one-size-fits-all treatment strategy for everything from depression to premature ejaculation
has placed a powerful way of life into a tiny box reserved only for the treatment of behaviours we currently see as unacceptable
Having trouble containing your grief at the office
Struggling with the uncertainty of your position during the 7th restructure in as many years
but what is ailing those who depend on you
Rather than a difficult but easily accessible way to free your mind and body
mindfulness has been rebranded as a kind of gentle harness to help us heel to the corporate leg
And the purpose of the practice has been restructured to include a hierarchy of outcomes as well
Most practice days I spend at least some time teaching people simple mindful practices that can help to reduce their in-the-moment anxiety
calm emotions that threaten to interfere with their ability to express them and to come into the present enough to speak clearly from their hearts and minds
This is just part of the work of taking responsibility for our lives
If we truly become mindful of our existence then our recurrent anxieties become not just a wave we watch pass through our minds
not something to be mastered in order to be a better servant
but a call to take action in order to be more fully alive

It was an emotional victory for West Ottawa Friday night as they raised over $15,000 for cancer awareness and defeated Grand Haven in a 3-1 game
The Panthers took the field with authority as they would be playing for family and friends who have battled cancer or are continuing to fight cancer
was especially motivated as she was playing for a fourth-grader
Emmie is a Waukazoo Elementary student who has been battling brain cancer for several years.
Krupka's emotions were running high all night
as she was excited to represent Emmie and spread awareness for cancer
“Some of my teammates have played for loved ones that they lost and some that are still battling cancer,” Krupka said
but it’s been really fun to get to know her and the joy that she brings…it’s a joy to play for her.”
Emmie has been around the team for years and may even be considered an honorary member
The Panthers have embraced her and have supported her through her fight with cancer.

“Emmie has had a long battle with cancer
and it’s really awesome to see her high-fiving me as I come off the field,” Krupka said
One of the team's most prominent supporters
gives some final words to the Panthers before Friday's game
Never forgetting the real reason they participate in the purple power game
the panthers look forward to this special game every year
and Krupka is soaked up every minute of the game
“That’s what this game is so much about
we get to look in the stands and see the people we love
and we get to look at our teammates and see who we love,” Krupka said
“I remember as a freshman I watched this game and thought it was so cool to see all of the players and who they were playing for
and it’s a community coming together to support loved ones lost to cancer and those still fighting
The Panthers were overjoyed to have such a large turnout of fellow supporters
“It’s really cool to see how much a community can just come together and raise $15,000
which is a lot of money…I’m speechless,” Krupka said
The Panthers dedicate themselves to spreading awareness for cancer and put so much time and thought into raising the money to support those fighting cancer
and I know that they are here because their hearts really love the cause
and it’s cool to see how much we can do when we all come together and are really passionate about something,” Krupka said.
Brenna Rohloff and Addison Scholten also contributed to the Panther's performance

NY — While Danielle Krupka has been involved in athletics her whole life
she'll be stepping out of her comfort zone next month
Not only will she be running the New York City Marathon on Nov
she'll be doing it for a cause near and dear to her heart
is using the marathon as a platform to raise funds for Home Base
a charity dedicated to helping veterans and their families
Both her late grandfathers served in World War II
while a third uncle was in the reserves during the Cold War
and they had a lot of pride and honor for their country," Krupka told Patch
Her family inspired her to volunteer at the Northport VA Medical Center last year as part of her clinical rotations she was doing for her work as a speech-language pathology intern
Throughout her time when she was home from working towards her bachelors in college
she helped out by pushing veterans' wheelchairs and conversing with them
She said she had a great experience working there
and that her time with the veterans led to her wanting to do more
Krupka carefully researched different programs and charities that aid veterans. Due to her BA in biochemistry and master's in speech language pathology from Hofstra, she wanted the charity to be medical-related. She chose Home Base
a joint program between the Massachusetts General Hospital and Red Sox Foundation
whose mission is "healing the invisible wounds for veterans of all eras
military families and families of the fallen through world-class clinical care
Krupka said multiple factors went into her decision: Massachusetts General Hospital being one of America's top hospitals
the program donating 99 percent of the proceeds to veterans and the fact that the hospital provides extra services that VA Hospitals can't because of the high demands
"It’s really just about giving back," Krupka said
"I saw how much it meant to the veterans I was working with when I was at the VA
kind of forgets how much these people have sacrificed for us
Their family; everybody suffers when they go away
Somebody gets injured or they see something that they can’t forget about
I’m doing what I can in memoriam of my family members who I love so much."
Krupka has since raised over $4,400, though she's quick to credit the support of the entire Northport community, which rallied behind her, for her success. You can donate to her fundraising efforts for Home Base here
hosted a fundraising event to help Krupka meet her initial goal of $3,000
Northport Harbor Deli and the Jewelry Collection
who owns The Wine Cellar on Main with Lindsay Ostrander
credited the community for coming together
"We all stick together around here to help one another," he said via press release
Krupka thanks O'Brien and Ostrander for hosting the event
as well as every business that helped out through donations and/or catering
so thankful for all the local businesses who participated," she said
I’d be able to raise as much money as I did
We’re on our way to raising $5,000 before Nov
That goes to show how amazing this little community is."
Krupka has never ran the New York City Marathon and admits she's a bit scared
Though she feels her competitive drive will see her to the finish line
"I’m trying to keep in mind the fact that I’m doing this for a good cause
which keeps her occupied 70-80 hours per week
each morning to go out and run before work
thanks to the cause of supporting those who make so many sacrifices for the United States

The story of how psychology framed women for their own assaults began, as so many of psychology’s stories do, with some trapped animals. In the late 1960s, psychologist Martin Seligman conducted a series of behavioural experiments with dogs
He electrically shocked them at random and observed their responses
After being locked in cages and subjected to pain that was unpredictable and uncontrollable, the dogs eventually gave up their attempts to escape, even when their cage doors were opened. In a now classic case of reframing, Seligman coined the term “learned helplessness” to describe their responses
It neatly and conveniently located the problem in the victims of violence
and manipulated their reality-based perceptions of a toxic and life-threatening environment
Learned helplessness was such a socially palatable label for repeated victimisation that it’s still regularly applied to many victims of social, institutional and interpersonal violence. This includes, most notably, women subjected to domestic violence
Like the slippery concepts of low self-esteem
learned helplessness has entered our vernacular
It has swallowed up socially accurate explanations for violence
until nothing is left but to blame the victim
Last year, clinical psychologist Sallee McLaren argued half the responsibility for domestic violence lies with the victim
Journalist Julia Baird’s much-echoed critique accurately positioned Dr McLaren’s piece in the context of a long history of “provocation” theories
These attempt to explain domestic violence as a predictable response to a woman’s inability to follow the rules of appropriate communication
Baird also rightly questioned Dr McLaren’s expertise in attributing responsibility for domestic violence
But unfortunately for women seeking therapeutic support, in order to survive and escape domestic violence, therapists of all persuasions have been specifically trained to locate the problem in their clients. Dr McLaren is no exception in a profession that continues to focus research on the individual attributes of victims of violence
and to pitch their therapeutic techniques towards victim responsibility
This contributes to women’s disempowerment and to our overall inability to see the violent forest for the trees
Therapists working to support women in situations of domestic violence need to move outside of individual psychology and away from therapy
They need to name the wider problem and directly address how the social determinants of gendered violence are affecting the health and safety of the women they’re working with
To do this requires a complete overhaul and a rejection of much of our own teaching. Therapists must relearn a feminist framework of male entitlement, power and control, and stop embracing apologist responses such as anger management
Then, the “damaged man” who is too wounded to control himself and needs our understanding disappears
a man who skilfully uses violence to manage his rage and needs to be controlled
Instead of the woman who has learned to be helpless
women’s responses to men’s violence can be understood as adaptive behaviour
This occurs within a fundamentally toxic social environment in which being subjected to violence is treated as a personal failure and where every response is either pitied or pathologised
Such an overhaul requires therapists to engage in the painful process of facing our profession’s complicity in violence against women
Anything less is not only dangerous and ineffective
but a significant and widely debilitating contribution to the problem
It is true that women who have experienced violence are different from other people who have not
We are different because we have been violated
We don’t have “trust issues”; we have been shamed and betrayed
We don’t “keep choosing violent men”. There are simply enough of them to go around to put one woman in this country in hospital every three hours
And violence of all kinds has such a profound impact on our available resources that we become increasingly vulnerable to violence the more of it we are forced to endure
We have not learned to be helpless; we have learned from our histories
in our hearts and in our minds we have been changed
we have learned the inside of the cage and the outside of the cage are not always so very different after all
If therapy is going to help change our minds

Married at First Sight, Channel 4’s “social experiment” reality show which asks whether “science can help to create a successful relationship and if the act of marriage itself helps create a psychological bond that leads to true and enduring love” is about to air in the UK
it’s the latest in a series of reality television programmes to use the format of arranged marriage to place lovelorn singles in hothouse situations for our entertainment
instead of simply being offered romantic suspense
we’re being asked to view this as a legitimate social experiment
This is scientific research – and the show’s producers have hired relationship experts to oversee and legitimise it
Channel 4’s experiment is one that would be highly unlikely to pass muster with any human research ethics committee
who gather data from participants to match couples and then interpret their ongoing interactions
come from a variety of disciplines including evolutionary anthropology
All of these are professions that require members to uphold standards of human research ethics that include preventing social and psychological harm and avoiding conflicts of interest
But as per the formula of most reality television
participants are deliberately stressed and exposed
with the data gathered by each researcher publicly interpreted for our entertainment
There is a conflict of interest between the needs of the show’s producers for the largest audience possible and the needs of the participants to be protected from psychological harm
There is also a conflict of interest between the role of each expert as scientist
While the contestants will have undoubtedly signed detailed consent forms
this in no way overrides the experts’ own professional obligations to conduct research that complies with the ethical guidelines set for their industries
That’s what guidelines for ethical research practice are there for; to protect participants from voluntarily consenting to experiments that may prove to be harmful
because it’s marketed as “light entertainment”
sometimes masked as social experimentation to give it an air of credibility
we can be persuaded to see it as a matter for ethical debate rather than professional sanction
It appears that when it comes to televised radical social experiments
both participants and the public are to be left to protect themselves
As reality television begins to position itself beyond the realm of simple voyeurism and ventures into the territory of legitimate social research without the ethical oversight, perhaps the place for complaints about the process is not only the television networks themselves but also the various member associations of the contributing expert consultants
who are accountable to the public for the ethical practice of their members and have dedicated professional conduct committees whose role is to hear and respond to complaints about the practices of their members
Participant complaints could have a significant impact on the process of making experimental television
But in the case of the current crop of new reality shows

Poland’s prime minister said if his country has to pay WWII damages to anyone
it would be “Hitler’s posthumous victory.”
(JTA) — Here’s how a far-right Polish politician made his point during a televised debate: He slipped a kippah on the head of his opponent
Konrad Berkowicz and Anna Krupka were representing their parties for the May 26 European Parliament elections: Berkowicz for Korwin
Krupka of the ruling right-wing Law and Justice Party
She didn’t notice for a few seconds and kept speaking
A popular slogan among Korwin supporters is “Poland
not Polin,” a reference to the country’s name in Hebrew
A far-right Polish politician said that footage of locals beating an effigy of a Jew shows that his country is being spied on by Jews or Freemasons
a former lawmaker in the European Parliament and leader of Korwin and several other ultranationalist movements
has a history of making anti-Semitic statements
Last month he aired a conspiracy theory about Jews while commenting on reports in the Israeli media on a custom in which residents of the town of Pruchnik beat with sticks an effigy of an Orthodox Jew representing Judas Iscariot
the Israeli-British founder of the Holocaust commemoration group From the Depths
The debate involving the kippah was held Saturday in Kielce
a southern city in Poland that was the site of a pogrom of Polish Jews by their non-Jewish neighbors in 1946
Polish Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki reiterated his government’s objection to offering what he called “damages” over issues that go back to World War II
“If today anyone says that Poland has to pay damages to anyone, then we disagree and will continue to do so and it will not happen as long as the country is ruled by Law and Justice,” Morawiecki said during a party event Friday in Lodz
it would contradict any elementary principle of international law
This would also be Hitler’s posthumous victory
the United Kingdom and Jewish groups have protested Poland’s failure to pass restitution laws for privately owned property lost by Jews in the Holocaust

Chef Inspired by Greenmarket; Gives More Cooking Demos this Weekend
I pulled into the Garden’s Mosholu gate last Wednesday, excited to return to the Greenmarket
With five basic pantry ingredients and $25
I planned to see how far we could stretch this budget into delicious
things that are ordinarily found in just about any home kitchen
and we walked away with a bag brimming with fresh corn
I also managed to talk one of the farmers into making a deal on two quarts of tart red cherries
We then made our way to the Conservatory Kitchen, where people were seated awaiting our Cooking for Your Health demonstration despite the incredible midday heat. I was excited to see that the high school-aged participants in the Botanical Garden’s GardenWorks program had joined us, as I love to show young people new foods and cooking techniques. This program, in partnership with the Bronx Institute’s Gear Up program
introduces students to new experiences and career choices in botanical science
Adriana and I got cooking right away, making a light and healthful vegetable soup with onions, carrots, potatoes, green beans, zucchini, and corn, along with some fresh herbs and my favorite ingredient of the day: tart, lemony, purslane. Read More
