2025) was an American avant-garde playwright and the founder of the Ontological-Hysteric Theater
These tributes to Foreman were collected and edited by Foreman’s friend and co-literary executor
“A Tribute to Richard Foreman (1937–2025)”
on the advice of dear friends from San Francisco who care about theater
I saw the Wooster Group’s adaptation of Richard Foreman’s wry acid trip from the eighties that masquerades as political satire
That performance took so much more than just the top off my head that after spending weeks catching up on his work
I just had to go meet the author in his legendary Maciunas loft
We spoke for hours as Richard went over all the things he no longer believed in—theater first (of course)
I think I might still believe in the word”)
Richard announced it to me that the best film of all time might well be Aleksei German’s Hard to Be a God—a work that many in my circles in Russia would give anything to rewatch on any given day
and a film that I was certain no one ever saw
(Andrew Lampert reassures me that there are a few more nutcases in New York who care for this kind of ghoulish spectacle
though those can be counted on one disfigured hand.) Stunned
nearly tipping over when exiting into Wooster Street on feet unsteady from having found a blinding kinship in a soul so vast and insurgent its eyes blasted craters in your thoughts with mere suggestion of the worlds they traveled
When the December premiere of Suppose Beautiful Madeline Harvey was coming up
Richard collapsed into a coma only a couple of days before the first night
His last play opened with these strange voices debating the central question of the work
whether a certain character—we may as well call her Madeline Harvey—exists or not
while the neon-lighted figurines of actors kept lashing out at each other with their atonal descant on how a consciousness might cease to be
another voice cut in—a recording of Richard himself
Foreman had always inserted himself into his productions
live-managing the sound from the front row of his theater
displaying his own face on TV screens arrayed around the set
projecting his voice to boom around the hall
a demiurge gone rogue disclosing his own presence
came from how poignantly the trick was brought back to life in the absence of the author
and palpably edited voice filled the space with its zany ruminations on the irreality of being as the mind behind that presence was braving the cosmic seas of still stranger worlds
Richard’s passage to the psycho-astral realm on the eve of his last premiere had so shattering an effect because it manifested a higher form of truth that was of a piece with his entire creative world
Foreman had always been drawn to limit-state epistemologies
His works tended to express this sensibility in a New Agey idiom—a mash-up of pop mystique
Take these titles of some of his masterpieces: My Head Was a Sledgehammer
No safe exit to be found in an “interpretation of dreams,” however
An avid reader of Jacques Lacan and a descendant of the Dada rather than André Breton
Foreman was deeply skeptical about the sublation of dream material in human language given the devastating influence of commodity culture on the unconscious itself
he struck his sparks not so much from nocturnal phantoms as from the torpor of the day and what it concealed
Suppose Beautiful Madeline Harvey places a strong emphasis on this departure from dream writing: “But even if falling asleep could be interesting … dreaming is a surprise and not necessarily interesting.” It was fitting
that the dreamer had gone on to a new state
we are not sure what it is that the human brain perceives and generates
according to visionaries as diverse as Pedro Calderón de la Barca and Richard Wagner
Foreman made use of the psychochemical mumbo jumbo inherited by the New Age from decadence at its looniest
but his shamanism was always beautifully sham
reified form of spirituality was his way of reanimating the decaying shards of metaphysics for a world long beyond any metaphysical experience whatsoever
in precisely the tendency to expose these tensions
such as when the proximity of utter bathos to unimaginable sublimity reveals itself as a historical problem in that aspect of his art for which there can be no better definition than “catastrophe writing.”
I finished a draft of this piece on Holocaust Remembrance Day—a context only seemingly inappropriate to Foreman who was always very open about his own Jewish heritage
Nor does “catastrophe” have to refer to a single watershed of an origin—it is an ongoing current of history
as the New York audiences of Foreman’s Maria del Bosco were reminded in 2002 in a bone-chilling scene echoing the events of 9/11
which Richard had seen from the window of his loft just a few weeks earlier
A ballerina wearing a pink tutu keeps crashing a model airplane piloted by a baby doll into a large window to the sounds of a Robert Schumann Lied until a loud crash destroys the otherworldly serenity of the scene and three KKK-hooded figures take the plane away
but how else to reflect on a horror that preempts all representation by more familiar means
Richard’s final image—presented by Object Collection mere weeks before he was unplugged from life and freed for a journey all new—is just as powerful
as much about what remains of our moment’s inheritance of so much prior destruction as it does about the stories left over from the past:
And who would it be who was actually then someplace still existing
RITA: Imagine Madeline Harvey alone in a room
And within seconds her entire body—consumed by flames burns down to pure ash
All but a single left foot in a singular red shoe completely untouched
RITA: And it HAS already happened to a few fortunate bodies—burning to pure ash in a similar PURIFYING fire
then which stories above all others would remain untouched—much like the single left foot of Madeline Harvey herself

Tim Homfray visits London’s Wigmore Hall for the recital of Ysaÿe
Brustad and Kodály on 20 February 2025
This unusually constituted concert opened with Eugène Ysaÿe’s Sonata in A minor for two violins
but it’s frequently in three or four parts and not for the faint-hearted
was full of assertive rhythms and punched accents
Its many contrapuntal sections – solo Bach is never far away – were deftly handled and beautifully delineated
The central Allegretto poco lento opens with a plaintive tune
as well as some mighty playing: at full tilt they were probably audible in the street outside
here given with good extrovert virtuoso playing and muscular gusto
After the interval violist Lawrence Power joined Frang for Bjarne Brustad’s Four Capricci for violin and viola
Power did a sort of dance to the quirky rhythms of the third one
and they were delightful in the fast-moving dialogue of the final Vivace
Power made the most of the substantial viola part in the first movement of Kodály’s Serenade for two violins and viola
and he was prominent again in the mysterious nocturnal music of the central movement
played its varied dances with vivid colour

Utah Hockey Club announced today the signing of forward Egor Sokolov to a one-year
The 24-year-old Sokolov registered 21-25-46 and 69 penalty minutes (PIM) in 71 games with the Belleville Senators (AHL)
finishing tied for the second-most points on the team
Sokolov also led the team in power-play goals (10) and shots (214) last season
216-pound forward played in five NHL games with the Senators
also led Belleville in scoring with 21-38-59 and 72 PIM in 70 games to go along with 10 power-play goals
Sokolov has recorded 1-1-2 and four PIM in 13 games with Ottawa and has registered 76-104-180 and 177 PIM in 240 games with Belleville
Sokolov was originally drafted by the Senators in the second round (61st overall) in the 2020 NHL Draft
Tucson Roadrunners right wing Egor Sokolov has already made a couple big moves in his career
so a trade this offseason to the Old Pueblo didn’t faze him
After coming to Tucson from the Belleview Senators in the offseason
Sokolov has rocketed up to 11th in the American Hockey League in scoring after notching four goals in two games this past weekend
That two-day effort — where he scored both game-winners — earned Sokolov the Howies Hockey Tape AHL Player of the Week award
“It’s great,” Sokolov said about his start
and it’s a little bit different for me right now
so I’m looking to just keep playing hockey
“I’m not really always thinking about goals and assists and stuff like that,” he added
“I usually just try to play the game and if I get an opportunity to bury one
the NHL’s Utah Hockey Club traded longtime Roadrunners forward Jan Jenik to the Ottawa Senators in exchange for Sokolov
who spent all of last season in the AHL with Bellevue
The American Hockey League announced Monday that Tucson Roadrunners forward Egor Sokolov has been named the Howies Hockey Tape AHL Player of the Week
Sokolov scored four goals in the Roadrunners’ two games this past weekend
Sokolov has five goals and three assists for Tucson this season
including two goals in each game of the Roadrunners’ sweep of the Bakersfield Condors over the weekend
Tucson head coach Steve Potvin said Sokolov is already a leader for the Roadrunners
“Egor’s just been a very calming presence in our team,” Potvin said
he seems to be in the right position at all times
“When you’re stronger with a puck the way he is
it just gives you a confidence and gives you a little bit more poise and time with the puck,” Potvin added
“It’s been a great little run for him here and I don’t expect it to really change.”
Potvin also said Sokolov’s dominant weekend came after he had been “feeling a little under the weather,” adding that for him to play like that shows a lot about his character
“He’s a very talented player as you can see
He can rip the pill,” said right wing Austin Poganski
“It’s nice to have his emotion and his ability to shoot the puck on the power play
We looked for him to be a big attribute there for us.”
The Senators drafted Sokolov in the second round of the 2020 NHL Draft
That was a couple hours away from his hometown
and lived there with other players his age to further his hockey career
I know my mom and dad had to make a lot of sacrifices for me to be where I’m at right now
(I’m) very thankful and I can’t thank them enough and it’s definitely tough for a young kid moving away and to see your mom and dad once a year
now 24 and in his fifth year of pro hockey in North America
but I’m gonna FaceTime with them every day and thank God we have that in this world,” he added
They know I’m enjoying my life and I’m getting where I want to be
Last season Sokolov had 21 goals and 46 points for Belleview
the latter the second-highest mark on the team
He led the Senators in power-play goals (10) and shots
he had points in four of the Senators’ last five games
“I think when you make a trade like this,” Potvin said
“you’ve got a little bit of a chip on your shoulder
But he’s also looking for an opportunity and he wants to show well here and show what he can do
“I didn’t expect anything but what he’s bringing,” Potvin added
“We heard some really good things about him from previous coaching staffs and he’s a player that’s making the most of his opportunity and he’s enjoying it.”
Sokolov played for three seasons for the Cape Breton Screaming Eagles of the Quebec Maritimes Junior Hockey League
he joined the Belleville Senators in the 2021 season
playing four seasons for the NHL Senators’ AHL affiliate
He also played 13 games for the Ottawa Senators
Sokolov does feel various big moves have helped him be more resilient
“When you’re 17 making a move across the world
so it took me over a year to try and talk to the guys around me
it’s definitely what made me who I am right now — making that move
and I’m pretty happy that I’ve done that.”

Nothing personal, but Egor Sokolov needed a change
After four seasons with the Belleville Senators
the power forward felt that he needed a new opportunity
Sokolov is hardly too old to have a viable NHL future
But the years in pro hockey do move by quickly
and it can be very easy to age out of prospect status and into that career stage that can sometimes be murky in this business
After playing a combined 13 NHL games in the 2021-22 and 2022-23 seasons
he had gone all of last season without an appearance for Ottawa
Sokolov went to management with a trade request
With his offensive touch (76 goals and 180 points over four seasons in Belleville) and passionate approach
he had built up plenty of respect capital with the NHL organization that had selected him as a 2020 second-round draft pick
But he needed a chance to play in front of new eyes and Ottawa management did right by him, sending him to the Utah Hockey Club on July 3. The Senators made sure to get value in return, too, obtaining fellow forward Jan Jenik – a fact not lost on Sokolov
It was a deal that sent Sokolov to a new organization
He went from one of the AHL’s smaller markets in Belleville to the sprawling city of Tucson
from southern Ontario to the American Southwest
Fewer bus trips crisscrossing the Eastern Conference
more flights to places like Calgary and Colorado
But with players and management having relocated from Arizona to Salt Lake City as Utah prepared for its inaugural season
Sokolov came into a situation in which everyone was encountering a new environment
“It was good,” Sokolov said of his first Utah training camp
[I wanted to] leave a good impression for myself
I’ve been able to build the trust from the coaching staff
and hopefully sooner rather than later I get an opportunity up in the NHL.”
Sokolov wore a letter during his junior career in the QMJHL and helped to lead during his time in Belleville
The Roadrunners count on him for leadership as well
That started with a direct self-assessment in an early meeting with head coach Steve Potvin
AHL coaching staffs already have plenty to do helping first- and second-year players with the pro game
dependable figure is key for a team’s more experienced players
30 games to start building trust in me,” Sokolov remembered
“I told them I’m going to show right from opening weekend that I can be trusted
Sokolov has been as advertised in Tucson. He leads the Roadrunners in goals (8), assists (6), points (14), power-play goals (3) and game-winners (3) through 10 games. He was named Howies Hockey Tape/AHL Player of the Week after a four-goal weekend against Bakersfield in late October
Tucson’s roster has solidified since the start of the season as well. Top prospect Josh Doan and Kailer Yamamoto recently joined the team from Utah
and much of the core from a 92-point season in 2023-24 has returned to Tucson
A recent nine-day break between games allowed Sokolov to settle in with his teammates and coaches who are still relatively new to him
there has been plenty of time for video work
Skating was an issue for Sokolov even as he moved into the pro game
he will put himself in an excellent position for a promotion to Utah
The Coyotes missed the Stanley Cup Playoffs in 11 of their final 12 seasons; holdover players and management arrived in their new home hungry for something different with this fresh opportunity
and Sokolov wants to be a part of that as well
“I just want to make a statement for everybody.”

Konstantin Sokolov has given his alma mater $100 million
Chicago Booth has renamed the executive MBA program in his honor
Chicago Booth’s Executive MBA Program is getting a new name — and a major upgrade — thanks to a $100 million donation from alumnus and investor Konstantin Sokolov
will rename the program the Sokolov Executive MBA Program and provide significant new funding for scholarships
founder of IJS Investments and a longtime advocate for economic development
says the gift celebrates the deep personal and professional impact of his Booth experience
He graduated from the Booth MBA program in 2005
and perspective I gained at Booth have shaped everything I’ve done since,” Sokolov says
“I’m proud to give back to a place that continues to define leadership in business education.”
Sokolov’s donation will fund a new clinical professorship for faculty who teach in the EMBA program and strengthen Booth’s ability to attract top talent across its three global campuses in Chicago
Booth plans to continue evolving the program to meet the shifting demands of today’s business landscape — from digital transformation to cross-border leadership
The Executive MBA at Booth has a storied legacy
Launched in 1943 to meet wartime demand for business leadership
it was the first program of its kind in the world
the 21-month program draws professionals from dozens of countries who learn in cohort-based formats
Students benefit from Booth’s distinctive analytical approach and access to top faculty across continents
A cornerstone of the newly named program is Booth’s Global Career and Leadership Development team
which offers personalized executive coaching
The team also connects students with senior business leaders through events and Distinguished Executive-in-Residence opportunities
Sokolov’s support will allow Booth to expand these offerings and introduce new
tailored programming for experienced professionals navigating senior-level career transitions
The gift also comes at a symbolic moment: the 20th anniversary of Sokolov’s graduation from the program
He completed his Executive MBA in Booth’s Chicago cohort (XP-74)
where he forged many of the relationships he still credits as central to his career
Sokolov funded enhancements to the student lounge at Gleacher — a space that now bears his name
from Russia at age 21 before launching a career that would span telecom
supports national infrastructure projects across multiple sectors
he says he hopes to ensure that future EMBA students — regardless of background — have access to the same world-class education and professional growth that defined his own journey
University of Chicago President Paul Alivisatos praised the donation as a powerful endorsement of Booth’s mission
“This gift will allow the school to continue fostering innovation

Utah Hockey Club announced today that the club has acquired forward Egor Sokolov from the Ottawa Senators in exchange for forward Jan Jenik
The 24-year-old Sokolov registered 21-25-46 and 69 penalty minutes (PIM) in 71 games with the Belleview Senators (AHL)
also led Belleview in scoring with 21-38-59 and 72 PIM in 70 games to go along with 10 power-play goals
Sokolov has recorded 1-1-2 and four PIM in 13 games with Ottawa and has registered 76-104-180 and 177 PIM in 240 games with Belleview
Sokolov was originally drafted by the Senators in the second round (61st overall) in the 2020 NHL Draft
Jenik registered 4-2-6 and 20 PIM in 22 career NHL games with the Arizona Coyotes and recorded 46-74-120 and 215 PIM in 165 career AHL games with the Tucson Roadrunners
The Tucson Roadrunners lost to the Rockford IceHogs in overtime 2-3 at the Tucson Convention Center on Saturday
Andrew Agozzino and Egor Sokolov scored for the Roadrunners
Tucson Roadrunners right wing Egor Sokolov has been racking up the points lately
Sokolov has tallied seven points in the Roadrunners’ last six games
He had two goals and an assist in Tucson’s 5-1 win over the Rockford IceHogs on Friday and then scored the game-tying goal on Saturday
which led to the Roadrunners getting a standing point
right?” said Tucson head coach Steve Potvin
Egor Sokolov has tallied seven points in the Tucson Roadrunners’ last six games
“I’m happy to see that he got his 20th (Saturday) and he’s been contributing not only on the power plays but contributing to 5-on-5 hockey.”
Sokolov was named first star of the game after Friday’s win
honestly it don’t matter if I score or not
it’s just as long as I can contribute to the team and help the team win
“I’ve been in the league for for a while now and I’ve learned a lot
it’s not all about goals and points it’s how much you can contribute to help the teams have success
I think I’ve been doing a good job with it
you know obviously having an opportunity to score and I did so
At the end of the day sucks to get one point out of two
The Tucson Roadrunners (25-22-3-2) travel to the Ontario Reign (31-17-2-1) for a Wednesday solo game
Sokolov’s 20th goal puts him one behind his AHL personal best that he set last year and the year before
though that was over 71 games in 2023-24 and 70 games in 2022-23
Sokolov was second in goals for the Belleville Senators and tied for second with 46 points
The Roadrunners split with the Rockford IceHogs
finishing their four-game home stand with an important seven points
they rallied from a 2-0 deficit to force overtime
The Roadrunners thought they deserved a power play in overtime after Tucson right wing Austin Poganski was wrestled down in the middle of the ice
“I thought it was a well-fought series and obviously I don’t think we played our best when we started the game
but we expected that they were gonna come back with a response,” Potvin said
“I liked that Staubs (goalie Jaxson Stauber) kept us in there
he did what he could to get us the points and look
I thought that was definitely an effort based sequence that should have resulted in a penalty against them and a power play for us,” he added
“At the end it’s disappointing to see the non call and you know what
sometimes typically you don’t get the next bounce.”
The Roadrunners thought they deserved a power play in overtime Saturday vs
the IceHogs after Tucson right wing Austin Poganski (27) was wrestled down in the middle of the ice
The seven points comes after they only picked up two in their previous home stand
which made up the bulk of their eight-game winless streak
“Obviously I wanted to come out with two points
I thought the team put up a really big fight and I don’t usually talk about officiating but I thought it was a pretty obvious call on Poganski,” Sokolov said
Tucson hits the road sitting in the seventh and final playoff spot in the division
The Roadrunners have the chance to gain ground on the fourth-place Reign (who have the fourth and final home-ice advantage in the first-round slot) and hold off the eighth-place Bakersfield Condors
Rockford left wing Zach Sanford returned to Tucson over the weekend
Sanford was named first star of the IceHogs’ 3-2 overtime win over Tucson
he was named as an alternate captain for Tucson
Sanford played 16 games for Tucson before getting called up by the Coyotes and then after Arizona waived him
Then he played 18 games for Chicago and 13 for Rockford last season
obviously he’s played in the NHL and he’s won a Stanley Cup
knows what it takes to play in critical moments and then
“He’s a patient player that waits for his opportunity
but he’s also a player that can defend well; so he’s definitely an elite player.”
Utah Hockey Club signed Stauber to a two-way deal
Stauber played two seasons for Rockford and six games with the Blackhawks
Stauber (9-5-2 AHL) lost to the IceHogs on Saturday
Tucson defenseman Juuso Välimäki’s return to the AHL was a rough one
Välimäki suffered a lower-body injury in the second period of Friday’s game and is out indefinitely
Friday’s game was Välimäki’s first in the AHL since 2022 after playing 271 games in the NHL for Calgary

Reacting to the arbitrary arrest of a prominent Russian human rights defender
for displaying the Facebook logo online which is regarded as an “extremist symbol” in Russia
the Russian authorities are exacting revenge against Aleksei Sokolov for his relentless defence of prisoners’ rights and for exposing torture in Russian prisons over almost two decades
he is being charged on a pretext that would have been laughable were it not real
and at the expense of his freedom and personal security.”
“The deliberately filmed heavy-handed arrest
and harsh treatment Aleksei Sokolov has been subjected to
signals that the authorities are intent on punishing him harshly for his human rights work
Amnesty International demands his immediate and unconditional release and the termination of these ridiculous criminal proceedings.”
“Aleksei Sokolov’s case is emblematic of how far Russian authorities are prepared to go to suppress dissent and silence human rights defenders.”
On 5 July, Aleksei Sokolov
a human rights organization defending prisoners’ rights
was arrested after a raid of his home by Russian security forces and charged with “repeated demonstration of prohibited symbols” (Article 282.4 of the Criminal Code)
Aleksei Sokolov became the first person in Russia to serve a five-day administrative arrest for displaying Facebook’s logo online
The social platforms Facebook and Instagram were banned and blocked in Russia in March 2022
after their parent company Meta was declared “extremist” organization and its activities prohibited in Russia
Russian Federal Penitentiary Service (FSIN) officials had reported the logo’s presence on a website allegedly administered by Sokolov
The raids also targeted Sokolov’s son and his fellow human rights activist
Her husband was allegedly beaten during the search
and her teenage daughter threatened by law enforcement officers
including being put face down on the floor and asked about his “status in the criminal underworld,” as shown in videos released by pro-government media
Together we can fight for human rights everywhere
Your donation can transform the lives of millions
If you are talented and passionate about human rights then Amnesty International wants to hear from you
Alik Sokolov is an A&S alum, a current doctoral student in the Department of Mathematics and maybe
the next world-renowned tech superstar to watch for
Sokolov is revolutionizing the mathematical finance space with his startup, Sibli. The young founder, CEO and Vanier Scholar is applying his studies in AI to investment research
finding synergy between his academic and business pursuits
“There's so much opportunity to push the envelope on how things are done, to really start rethinking the investment process,” says Sokolov, who earned his honours bachelor of science in 2013 as a member of New College and his master’s degree in 2016
“It feels like we're on the precipice of a massive transformation of how this job is done.”
Sibli derives its name from “responsibly,” a reference to “responsible investing” and the role the investment industry has to play in sustainability and creating a healthier economy to benefit society
The company tailors generative AI as a tool for investment managers
helping inform decision-making by processing large amounts of textual data that could impact holdings
just about any news article that has to do with business or politics may be important,” Sokolov says
“The company need not be directly mentioned
meaning the amount of information that needs to be processed to answer a single research question can be massive.”
and Sibli regularly contributes ideas to research projects at the lab
“I'm always looking for ways to get closer to the university,” Sokolov says
The junction of academic interests and work has propelled Sokolov since high school
taking on the graveyard shift at UPS to help support himself
He came to Toronto from Ukraine with his mom and sister in 2004 when he was 12
Sokolov’s early interest in finance was borne from a desire for economic stability and a murky notion that finance was especially lucrative
I want to have economic security,’” Sokolov says
“That interest grew into one grounded in more than just financial returns.”
A big turning point in Sokolov’s academic career came when he took Introduction to Mathematical Finance with Luis Seco
who is Sokolov’s mentor and doctoral supervisor
The course is geared toward graduating students looking to bridge their degree to the working world
“I can see in that course who has ambitions and who doesn't,” says Seco, a professor in the Department of Mathematical and Computational Sciences at the University of Toronto Mississauga
People with ambitions come and talk to me about anything
“Luis had nothing to gain from giving me the time of day — he was so swamped,” Sokolov says
He's just so consistent about doing the selfless thing for people.”
Sokolov returned twice to the university for graduate studies
The two maintained a relationship where they exchanged ideas on mathematical finance and AI
“It was more regret aversion,” Sokolov says of leaving Deloitte to begin his doctoral degree in mathematics
“I knew if I didn’t give this sort of thing a go
Just as Sokolov worked at UPS during his high school and undergraduate years
he began Sibli during his PhD and has since been balancing the two pursuits
which he says harmonize nicely with one another
Returning to U of T and working with his mentor again felt natural to Sokolov
who enjoys the freedom Seco grants his students
Luis will let students experiment and try their own thing,” Sokolov says
so working with folks like Luis is really comfortable.”
“People underestimate the value of personal qualities.”
Seco’s expertise in mathematical finance is vast
though these days he’s been delving more into AI and sustainability
Seco likens the current AI revolution in domains like finance to the early introduction of computers
“There's no better time for mathematics and finance to be working together,” he says
“I think we're at the cusp of this big transformation
and Alik is one of the writers of that transformation.”
With Sibli poised to shake up the world of finance
Sokolov has had to learn to navigate being a successful founder
While his professional skills have held up well
there’s been a lot of work on managing his emotions and dealing with the stressors unique to startups
“Everything they say about startups being an emotional roller coaster and being hard
and a lot of emotional work and self-improvement to have a more consistent go of this.”

Khalil et al.46 mainly recognized the concept of CD alongside the reason of limit
If we consider a mapping \(f:(0,\infty ) \to \Re \,,\) then CD of \(f\) order \(\omega\) can be written as \(T_{t}^{\omega } f(t) = \mathop {\lim }\limits_{\varepsilon \to 0} \left( {\frac{{f\,\left( {t + \varepsilon \,t^{1 - \omega } } \right) - f(t)}}{\varepsilon }} \right)\,,\) for all \(t > 0,\;0 < \omega \le 1.\)
Assume \(\omega \in \,\,(0,\,1],\) additionally function \(f = f(t),\,\,{\text{and }}g = g(t){\kern 1pt} ,\) be \(\omega\)-CD at the point \(t > 0,\) then we can state-owned as
\(T_{t}^{\omega } \left( {cf + dg} \right) = cT_{t}^{\omega } f + dT_{t}^{\omega } g,\) for all \(c,\,d \in \Re\)
\(T_{t}^{\omega } \left( {t * \gamma } \right) = \gamma \,t^{\gamma - \omega } ,\;\) for all \(\gamma \in \Re\)
\(T_{t}^{\omega } \left( {f * g} \right) = gT_{t}^{\omega } \left( f \right) + f\;T_{t}^{\omega } \left( g \right)\,,\;\)
\(T_{t}^{\omega } \left( \frac{f}{g} \right) = \frac{{gT_{t}^{\omega } \left( f \right) - f\,T_{t}^{\omega } \left( g \right)}}{{g^{2} }}.\)
then \(T_{t}^{\omega } \left( {f(t)} \right) = \,\,t^{1 - \omega } \frac{df}{{dt}}.\)
Consider \(f:(0,\omega ) \to R{\kern 1pt} {\kern 1pt} ,\) be a function of real type in such a way as \(f\) is able to differentiate additionally \(\omega\)-CD
suppose that \(g\) be a function that is both well-defined and differentiable within designated range of \(f\)
we possess \(T_{t}^{\omega } \left( {fog} \right)\,\left( t \right) = t^{1 - \omega } g(t)^{\omega - 1} \;g^{\prime}(t)\,T_{t}^{\omega } \left( {f(t)} \right)_{t = g(t)} \,,\) whereas prime indicates the simple derivatives with regard to \(\text{the point } t\)
We were considerate in our study when it came to the favored equation and the idea of CD
While numerous functions may not exhibit increasing behavior as demonstrated by Taylor's power order analysis at specific points in basic calculus
their existence can still be accounted for through the application of conformable order derivatives
While complicated plans happen in the logic of important fractional geometry
CD accomplishes well in the product and chain law
Wherever the Riemann derivative of fractional order is not the topic
the CD of a function characterized by a constant type is corresponding to zero
The Mittag Leffler functions play a significant role in fractional order calculus
serving as an alternative elucidation to the exponential type of function
This is evident in the fractional order representation of the exponential type function expressed as f(t) = e \(\frac{{t}^{\alpha }}{\alpha },\) particularly in the context of CD
Consider a NLEE characterized by the provided structure
where \(\psi =\psi \left(x,t\right)\) denotes a function of which the specific characteristics are not defined
\(\Theta \) can be represented as a polynomial function in terms of \(\psi \)
it involves a dissimilar form of partial derivatives
encompassing both nonlinear terms and the higher-order derivatives in the expression
We will now adopt a variable transformation for the wave with a interpretation to non-dimensionality
We unify all independent variables into a singular variable as
Through the substitution of this variable transformation, we can simplify Eq. (2) into an ODE of the following structure
Step-02. Let's contemplate that the solution to the ODE in Eq. (4) can be formulated as
where determination of the positive integer \(N\) is achieved by equating the peak order derivatives to the corresponding peak order nonlinear portions found in Eq. (4)
the ODE is satisfied by the derivative of \(\varphi (\xi )\) and is expressed in the succeeding structure
Consequently, the solutions for the ODE represented by Eq. (6) are:
A hyperbolic function-based solution (for \({\upbeta }^{2}-4\alpha >0
A trigonometric function-based solution (for \({\upbeta }^{2}-4\alpha <0
When \({\upbeta }^{2}-4{\upalpha }>0\) and \({\upalpha }=0,\upbeta \ne 0\)
When \({\upbeta }^{2}-4{\upalpha }=0\) and \(\alpha \ne 0,\upbeta \ne 0\)
When \({\upbeta }^{2}-4{\upalpha }=0\) and \(\alpha =0,\upbeta =0\)
then we accomplish an expression in polynomials structure of \(\text{exp}\left(-p\varphi \left(\xi \right)\right)\) and by equating individually coefficient of the obtained polynomial equal to zero
a system of algebraic equations (SAE) is derived
From 1st equation in Eq. (14)
Using (15) into the 2nd equation in Eq. (14) and by integrating then we acquire under mentioned ODE
By balancing \(U^{\prime\prime}\) and \({U}^{3},\) we get the value of \(N=1.\) From Eq. (5)
where \({A}_{0} and {A}_{1}\) are real parameters which are nonentities and resolute later
Utilizing Eq. (6) and Eq. (17) in Eq. (16)
a polynomial expressed in terms of \(exp(-\varphi (\xi ))\) is derived
Upon paralleling all coefficients of \(exp(-\varphi (\xi ))\) to the value zero
Using the solution of SAE and Eqs. (7) and (8), we get following general travelling wave solutions of Eq. (17):
where \(\rho =\sqrt{-6a\left(b+2c\right)\left(-{\beta }^{2}+4\alpha \right)}\)
Using the solution of SAE and Eq. (9) as well as Eq. (10) into Eq. (17)
we arrive at following general travelling wave solutions:
Family 3: (when \({\upbeta }^{2}-4\alpha >0
Using the solution of SAE and Eq. (11) into Eq. (17) we get following general travelling wave solutions:
where \(\xi =l\left(x-\delta \frac{{t}^{\gamma }}{\gamma }\right).\)
Rational solution is excluded for its predefined circumstance
we delve into the physical interpretation of the precise solutions derived for the couple DSW equation
The computational tools Maple-18 and MATLab were instrumental in solving the equations and producing graphical representations correspondingly

graphical behavior of the obtained solutions of the couple DSW equation is discussed
In order to illustrate the dynamical behavior of the wave phenomena governed by the couple DSW equation
2D and contour graphical simulations are generated
The parametric values are suitably selected in accordance with the proposed methodologies such that well-defined solution expressions are obtained
The 3D surface graph highlights the shape of the traveling wave or soliton whereas the contour graph illustrates the structure of the constructed wave through plots of level curves
The 2D line graphs of the solutions are also plotted for increasing values of time to illustrate the progression of the wave along- \(x\) axis
All the graphs displayed above depicts the construction of multiple solitons
A localized rise in wave amplitude is characteristic of the bright soliton
Singular solitons are crucial in scientific research because of their capacity to reflect extremely concentrated and localized events
making them useful tools for examining extreme behavior in physical systems
making it easier to understand and characterize complex
nonlinear processes that defy linear models
Singular solitons are associated with shock waves and provide valuable information about the interaction and propagation of shock events via various materials
contour graphics enhance the quality of studies by providing a visual representation of spatial patterns
The study's overall robustness is further increased by their ability to highlight anomalies and support predictive modelling
These comparisons and observations confirm the novelty and significance of the results presented in the current manuscript

Lali expressed a desire to go to Auschwitz
the first time he had considered returning in 60 years
Lali specifically wanted to see Auschwitz-II Birkenau again
the place where he and Gita spent most of their imprisonment and where they miraculously met and fell in love
father and son never got to make the trip together
It’s a regret Gary has carried ever since his father passed away
to be able to provide Gary with the opportunity to walk in his parents’ footsteps and visit Auschwitz is very special and was an emotional rollercoaster like no other for Gary and for our team
Melbourne-based Gary (63) has had a life-long fear of Auschwitz
having tried and failed to visit at several points in his life
once getting as far as the iconic 'Arbeit Macht Frei' gates only to find himself frozen in fear
After the astonishing success of the book and the global launch of the series
the prospect of following Gary on this once-in-a-lifetime trip from his home in Melbourne to the Slovakian towns of his parents’ birth – Krompachy (Lali) and Vranov nad Toplou (Gita) – and then ultimately to Auschwitz
was one that neither I nor documentary director Stephen Bennett could resist
Stephen has made many incredible films centred around the theme of trauma
so he was the perfect documentarian for this landmark journey – part pilgrimage
part exploration of intergenerational Holocaust trauma
I have been immersed in Gary’s family story for some time
having spent the last six years closely attached to the fictionalised versions of his parents (Lali and Gita) whilst developing
producing and executive producing the Emmy-nominated limited series The Tattooist of Auschwitz
I’m drawn to stories based on real life and I was gripped by The Tattooist as soon as I read it
The idea of a love story set in Auschwitz was incredible to me; how could two people fall in love in one of the most notorious concentration and extermination camps
Lali’s story spoke to me about our innate capacity for hope and survival despite whatever darkness we face
I hadn’t seen such a profound love story against the backdrop of the Holocaust before and felt compelled to embark on the long road to producing it as a limited series
including Head Writer and fellow EP Jacquelin Perske
and director and Co-Executive Producer Tali Shalom Ezer worked closely with the actors Jonah Hauer-King and Harvey Keitel as they brought young and old Lali to the screen
alongside Polish actress Anna Próchniak who we cast in the character of young Gita
Adding Melanie Lynskey (Heather) and Jonas Nay (Baretzki) to our core cast was a dream
complemented by a cast of 65 incredible supporting actors from across Europe
The drama aired around the world to massive success in May of 2024
but I first met Gary in person a few months prior when we shared the series with him in a private screening in Melbourne
Sitting in the dimmed light of a small cinema with Gary
novelist Heather Morris and Gary’s close friends is easily the most emotional
nerve-wracking and memorable screening I’ve ever experienced
I was naturally anxious to see Gary’s reaction but within minutes of seeing Harvey Keitel portray his late father
Gary broke down with tears of joy as he clutched Heather’s hand
I knew we had delivered on our responsibilities to Gary and his family
I asked Heather how that screening felt for her
20 years after she first met Gary’s father: 'In one word – Overwhelming
both of us were overcome with emotion we sought comfort from each other
a shoulder became a resting place for a heavy head
the story unfolding was lived by the two of us alone
highly emotional conversations with Lali opening up to me like he hadn’t before
I was surprised to discover that Gary felt people who had read the book and seen the mini-series knew more about his parents than he did
It seemed so bizarre that though millions around the world now knew his parents by first name
he had never heard their story directly from his own mum and dad
he overheard his parents and friends from their community sharing their stories and the rest he filled in watching endless episodes of the landmark series The World at War
When Gary shared that he felt his identity
in terms of his family history was incomplete
I knew my own journey with the Sokolov family was not yet over
Having spent years working on one man’s story of the Holocaust
I was fascinated to learn more about Gary’s story
What was life like for Gary with two parents who had lived such epic lives and survived unimaginable horror
What was it like to be the only son of such globally known survivors
And what had been the lasting effects on Gary
A documentary bearing witness to his personal journey seemed undeniable
It felt natural to include Heather as a contributor
given she brought Lali’s story to the world
I wondered how it felt for Heather to come on the journey and watch Gary trace his parent’s footsteps back to Auschwitz
I had been to Lali and Gita’s hometowns several times
I told him he would be not only walking in his parents’ footsteps but also in mine
I had to make the journeys he was about to make
'Watching as "my friends" showed Gary what I had previously seen
the documents regarding his family history was a profoundly moving experience for me and I delighted in his reactions
seeing him learn the story of who he was and where he came from
I thought often of the night Lali asked me to take him back to Auschwitz and his reasons for going
visceral and painful when I told him of his father’s request
A request neither one of us was able to fulfil.'
I am profoundly moved by the rawness of Gary’s emotions as he encounters so many incredible moments along the road
Watching him read from his mother’s Shoah testimony as he prepares to visit Auschwitz is devastatingly sad and chilling at the same time – watching him express wonder at a never before seen photograph of Lali as a teenager at school in pre-war Slovakia is deeply moving
and even more so when Gary cries as he learns the photo is a gift for him; Gary’s exhilaration as he takes stones from the house his father grew up in
and later lays them on Lali and Gita’s gravestones as he visits their resting places with his daughters for the first time; and the moment he shares with Intergenerational Holocaust psychiatrist George Halasz that he doesn’t feel 'empty anymore' is truly humbling
I hope audiences are moved and enlightened by Gary’s story and encouraged to consider the consequences of antisemitism
To have been able to work with Stephen and our team and bear witness to Gary’s journey has been a privilege and I am honoured that he trusted us with his story
I am thankful to all our contributors for giving themselves to the process and supporting Gary along the way
without whom none of us would have had the opportunity to tell any part of the Sokolov story
We’re honoured that The Tattooist’s Son joins a host of programming to commemorate the 80th Anniversary of the Liberation of Auschwitz

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. … The American Hockey League announced today that Tucson Roadrunners forward Egor Sokolov has been selected as the Howies Hockey Tape/AHL Player of the Week for the period ending October 27
Sokolov scored four goals in two games last week
netting a late game-winning tally in each of the Roadrunners’ weekend triumphs
Sokolov broke a 3-3 tie with 4:08 remaining in regulation
then scored an insurance marker with 1:23 to play to lift Tucson to a 5-3 decision
Then in Saturday’s rematch with the Condors
he scored a go-ahead goal late in the first period before netting the overtime winner as the Roadrunners grabbed a 3-2 victory
Sokolov has now found the scoresheet in all six outings for Tucson this season and leads the team with five goals and eight points
has collected 81 goals and 107 assists for 188 points in 246 career AHL games with Tucson and Belleville
Sokolov was originally a second-round pick by Ottawa in the 2020 NHL Draft and has notched one goal and one assist in 13 career NHL contests
Sokolov was acquired by the Utah Hockey Club in a trade with the Senators on July 3

6 min readGary Sokolov tried five times to visit Auschwitz – the place not only where he lost family members but also where his parents met and fell in love
he got as far as the Polish border but never made it across
accompanied by a television camera there to film the only son of the now famous “tattooist of Auschwitz” who found love there
did he finally walk through the gates of hell
my heart was racing and I walked in and out of the gate four times
he decided it was time to come face to face with what his parents had gone through
Time to see what they were too afraid to tell him themselves
“I feel like a weight has been lifted from me,” Gary reveals
When you walk around with a lack of knowledge about your own parents and grandparents
The story of how Gary’s parents Lale Sokolov and Gita Fuhrmannova fell in love at Auschwitz has become world famous thanks to a bestselling book called simply The Tattooist of Auschwitz written by Heather Morris
to whom Gary’s father confided in at the end of his life
and a recent Sky television drama based on the book
Now a Sky History documentary features Gary trying to retrace the steps of his parents
visiting the houses they grew up in and the place where they fell in love
It is a story that Gary learnt only from reading the book
as both his Slovakian-born parents refused to talk to him about what they went through during the war
it was only as he was filming the documentary and meeting a genealogy expert
that he discovered his mother had three sisters who were killed at Auschwitz
“They didn’t want me to be aware of the horrors and what they went through,” says Gary
“The only thing my mother really told me about was about how
when she was really sick while she was in Auschwitz
her mother came to her in a dream and said
you are going to meet a man and you are going to have a son.’ That is all she ever told me
“Dad would tell the occasional story – things like how there were two young men and how he changed their tattoos to help them escape and take their information about Auschwitz to the allies
And I later found a book about the escape and his part in it was mentioned
it was just the odd thing that I would overhear
my parents were friendly with other Slovakian Holocaust survivors
Quite a few of them had come out on the same boat as my parents – three of the women had been tattooed by my father in Auschwitz
“They’d take turns hosting the Jewish holidays
the women would go into the kitchen and talk – about what their kids were going to do when they leave school
who they were going to marry – I would call them the Parliament as they would work everything out
The men would sit around telling stories but my problem was that my Slovak wasn’t very good and they didn’t tell the stories in English
I’d pick up the odd bits and pieces but my parents never wanted to speak about it.”
He knew that his parents had met at Auschwitz and that his father had helped keep his mother alive by smuggling food to her but Gary learned not to ask them more
‘the soccer starts in five minutes’,” he says
I would look into his eyes and it would be like it wasn’t totally there
It is only really in watching the drama series about him
in which he’s played so well by Jonah Hauer-King
that I realised that in those moments he might be being haunted by his memories
It was through watching the drama that I learned to understand my father better.”
It was reading Morris’s work that meant he learnt what the pair had really experienced in Auschwitz and how that pain had endured
He had no idea that his mother would regularly have nightmares – something that Lale told Morris – until he read it
The work of a stranger meant that he learnt to understand what was really going on in the minds of his parents
“I was in my mid thirties when my mum showed me she’d had her tattoo removed because she said she couldn’t bear to look at it anymore
It was the first time I’d seen her express this negativity and that’s when I realised my mum had been depressed
The tattoo was too much of a reminder of what she went through.”
got to understanding what his parents went through was when they sat him
in front of the seminal 26-part ITV history show The World at War
which helped introduce what happened in the death camps to the world at large and to Gary
watching the show by myself in the television room while my parents sat in the kitchen,” he says
“It would be on a Tuesday night and I was allowed to stay up later than usual
The visions of the bulldozers in the camps moving the bodies and piling them up and up
I thought back to that when I was sitting shiva by myself for my dad – no other family members with me because there was no one else
the same loneliness that I had watching The World At War.”
Gary’s parent’s attitude was to always try and look forward
“There were no limitations and they were supportive of everything I did,” says Gary
they wanted me to try different foods and watch movies with them
My dad’s attitude was PMA – positive mental attitude – and they were really happy people
One of my fondest memories is from their 50th anniversary and I watched them still cuddling and holding hands
“I remember one time my dad’s company went bust and I came home and they were taking away the family car
I walked into our apartment and my mother was singing when we’d just lost everything
‘Why are you singing when we are in so much trouble?’ and she looked at me blankly and said
‘Once you’ve survived something like Auschwitz
when you don’t know if you’re going to wake up in the morning
It was Gary who found Morris – an aspiring writer who worked in a care home – to talk to his father towards the end of his life
Lale wanted to tell his story before he died
At first the story was going to be turned into a film
which has sold an incredible 17 million copies
and the book has been criticised for being a novel with fictitious elements brought into it
Gary remains close to Morris and says he will always be grateful for what she has done
“For me it was disappointing that he never spoke to me about it but
he found someone he could speak to that he trusted,” says Gary
‘How quickly can you write because my wife is waiting for me.’ He wanted to get his story out
“And as for the fact that there are historical inaccuracies
all I can say is that it’s not a historical document
The most important thing for me is that this is about a romance in the most horrific circumstances humans have endured
And now my parents – my 4ft 11in mum and 5ft 1in dad – are world famous
For me the focus of this story should be about the fact that bad times end and there is a way of surviving.”
he asked Gary to take him back to Auschwitz
The first time he’d even considered returning to Europe since he’d left
‘You are 89 why do you want to go back now?’” Lale
who had a privileged position among the death camp’s Jewish hierarchy
“He said he wanted to go back because he wanted to apologise to all the people whose lives he couldn’t save,” says Gary
and it was my biggest regret that I didn’t jump on a plane with him and take him there
for me this trip to Auschwitz was an apology to him and for him.”
The Tattooist’s Son: Journey to Auschwitz is on Sky History on January 27
Holocaust Memorial Day
shoah
To commemorate the 80th anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz
Stan released The Tattooist’s Son: Journey to Auschwitz which premiered on January 28
This poignant documentary follows Gary Sokolov, the only son of Gita and Lali Sokolov (depicted in the book and series The Tattooist of Auschwitz)
as he visits his parents’ home towns in Slovakia before they were imprisoned at Auschwitz-Birkenau
this is a personal pilgrimage to honour his parents
they deserve from me to understand what they went through,” he says in the film
The Tattooist of Auschwitz was written by Heather Morris and published in 2018
after Lali sought an author to record his life story
Heather interviewed Lali and he told her his memories of how he fell in love with Gita after tattooing her arm at Auschwitz
Heather recently dedicated a memorial to Lali and all Holocaust survivors in his home town of Krompachy in Slovakia
Gary also attended a registry and learnt information about his family that he never knew
and that he was named “Baruch” after his grandfather
“My whole life no one spoke to me,” Gary says in the documentary
his parents did not talk to him about what they endured during the war
“The people who have read the book knew more than I did growing up,” he said
After his parents arrived in Australia in 1949
he believes they were focused on “moving forward” and when he was born in 1961 they tried to shield him from the horrors they faced
and this documentary follows Gary as he visits Auschwitz-Birkenau for the first time
Gary shared that this journey was not only about walking in his parent’s footsteps but also to fulfil his father’s last wish
he told Gary he needed to go back to Auschwitz
“Because I need to apologise to all the lives I couldn’t save.”
Gary said he regrets not getting on a plane with his father the next day
and this need to make an apology on his father’s behalf became an obligation that haunted him
Lali said he was involved in the underground at Auschwitz that led to the blowing up of a crematorium
and Gary assumes his dad wished he could have done more to save lives
“I had the opportunity to say Kaddish at Auschwitz
and it was such a relief on my conscience to finally get to do that,” he said
Gary describes the journey as life-altering
“I’m not empty anymore,” Gary reflects on his return to Australia
He feels a sense of “relief” that he now has a better understanding of what his parents endured and he can share that with his daughters who will continue their family’s story
Although The Tattooist of Auschwitz book and mini-series have been critiqued for factual inconsistencies as they are based on Lali’s memories
the place where 1.1 million people were killed
is an important contribution to Holocaust education
the tiny shoes that had belonged to children
For those who relished the story of Lali and Gita falling in love in the most horrible of places
this documentary will also offer a deeper understanding of the true nature of the horrors of the Holocaust
This is especially important at this time amid rising antisemitism and when younger generations are unaware about the Holocaust
A national survey by Deakin University found that “a quarter (24%) of the population aged 18 years or older have little to no knowledge of the Holocaust
with that number rising to 30 per cent among millennials.”
Hopefully documentaries such as this can help
“Someone was telling me that the Auschwitz site got more hits after the launch of the mini-series than it ever did since opening,” Gary told The AJN
“People are becoming more aware … The fact that Heather Morris wrote a schoolbook version for kids
it’s becoming part of their curriculum … It’s actually having a positive impact
“If there’s a Holocaust denier out there that watches the documentary
and if I can change one person’s mind about the fact that the Holocaust did exist
Gary also hopes that the film will encourage people to speak to their parents and grandparents about their past
“For me it’s just been beyond my wildest dreams … I’m so happy that my parents’ story is out and that it’s had such a positive impact on the world.”

PARIS — Renowned pianists Grigory Sokolov and Sergei Babayan performed a benefit concert in the French capital Monday evening in honor of Pavel Kushnir
a pianist and anti-war activist who tragically passed away in a Russian pre-trial detention center at age 39 in July
for which dozens of musicians around the world expressed their support in an open letter
marked the first time since the invasion of Ukraine that the global music community has so strongly supported an anti-war Russian performer
The program opened with Frédéric Chopin’s Mazurkas
traditional Polish dances that were the composer’s way of resisting the Russian occupation of 19th-century Poland.
In the final months of his career before his arrest
Kushnir highlighted Chopin’s Mazurkas in a series of weekly educational radio broadcasts in Birobidzhan
the capital of the remote Jewish autonomous district in Russia’s Far East where he lived.
Sokolov and Babayan also performed selections by Schumann
Following Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine
Kushnir became a vocal opponent of the war
He posted several videos on his YouTube channel where he argued about the nature of fascism
called for revolution and expressed support for the LGBTQ+ community
His channel had only five subscribers.
Kushnir was charged with “terrorist activity” in connection with these videos and placed in a pre-trial detention center
He passed away on the sixth day of the dry hunger strike
Eyewitnesses who attended his funeral claimed to have seen traces of blood on Kushnir's face
no investigation into his death in pre-trial detention has been carried out
His ashes were buried in his birthplace Tambov
The scale of Kushnir's talent only became known after his death
He left behind two great avant-garde novels — “Noel” and “Russian Cutting” — as well as a manuscript of the diary he kept in Birobidzhan during Russia’s fall 2022 “partial” mobilization
about 60 internationally renowned conductors
composers and pianists signed an open letter in support of artists facing political repression or forced into exile.
The letter’s signatories include Daniel Barenboim
“We wish to express our support for all artists around the world who are oppressed and sometimes forced into exile,” the letter states
“Pavel Kushnir chose internal exile and dared to speak out against war
We will be with you mentally this evening and join in solidarity with all artists suffering from repression today.”
said that the letter’s signatories also include musicians who still live and perform in Russia
“This is an incredibly brave act on their part,” Shkrygunova said
He resonates in everyone in his own way.”
said: “Music can be both for good and evil
Let us honor his memory and follow his example.”
Proceeds from the Paris concert will be donated to the Atelier des artists en exile
artists and filmmakers from around the world who live in exile

Following the release of the miniseries The Tattooist of Auschwitz (2024)
Sky HISTORY has announced a documentary centered around the protagonists’ son
The one-off television special will see Sokolov tour Auschwitz
endured while imprisoned at the concentration camp during the Second World War
Titled The Tattooist’s Son: Journey to Auschwitz, the 90-minute documentary, which is slated to premiere in January 2025, will follow Sokolov as he makes a journey his father had always wished to
but couldn’t before his passing in October ’06
It marks the first time he’s visited the concentration camp
Along with his journey to Auschwitz, the release will also feature appearances by Heather Morris, who wrote The Tattooist of Auschwitz; actors Anna Próchniak and Jonah Hauer-King
who portrayed Lali and Gita in the miniseries; Holocaust survivor Abram Goldberg; and Holocaust trauma psychologist George Halasz
All of this will be paired with archival footage
clips from the miniseries and footage of Lali himself
Released in 2018, Morris’ book details the story of Lali Sokolov
a Jewish man who’s sent to Auschwitz in 1942 and subsequently becomes an apprentice to the camp’s tattooist (tätowierer)
a fellow prisoner assigned to one of the warehouses
and what follows is a love story that defies the odds
While a work of fiction, The Tattooist of Auschwitz is based on Sokolov’s time at the concentration camp during World War II
Sokolov didn’t speak about what happened to him during the conflict until after his wife’s death is 2003
The television adaptation of the novel was released via Sky and Peacock in 2024
The Tattooist’s Son: Journey to Auschwitz was ordered by Dan Korn of Hearst Networks EMEA and Sky’s Hayley Reynolds
It was directed by Stephen Bennett and produced by Synchronicity Films’ Claire Mundell
“As the last survivors of the most terrible event in human history depart this life
it is down to the next generation and those like Gary to take this difficult journey and bear witness so that such incomprehensible violence and bloodshed can never happen again.”
“Having brought Lali and Gita’s incredible love story to the screen in The Tattooist of Auschwitz
it is a privilege for us to walk with Gary on this emotional and personal pilgrimage for his parents
we hope to give audiences an insight into the burden of intergenerational trauma and encourage empathy for the children of survivors coping with their parents’ painful legacies in order that neither they nor we ever forget.”

This deal will mark Sokolov’s first move away from the Senators organization after the club selected him in the second round of the 2020 NHL Draft
He turned pro immediately following the draft
recording 15 goals and 25 points in his first 35 games with the Belleville Senators
That production earned Sokolov the first eight NHL games of his career in 2021
he’s maintained his strong offense at an AHL level
ranking in the top three of Belleville’s scoring in each of the last three seasons
That notably includes a career year in 2022-23
when Sokolov managed 21 goals and 59 points in 70 games
He once again earned NHL games with the high-scoring
netting two points in five additional games with Ottawa
Sokolov again recorded 21 goals this season
though he was limited to 46 total points in 71 games
he’s still finding how to create and maintain tempo at the pro level
though Sokolov has shown a strong ability to produce on both a juniors and minor-league stage
A two-way deal will give him a chance to prove that potential with the NHL’s newest club this season
though he may have to first work his way up from the minor leagues

Sylvanie-USA TODAY SportsThe National Hockey League’s annual preseason waiver rush continued on Saturday
with eight teams collecting placing 23 players on waivers as they continue to cut down their preliminary rosters
Notable among the players waived on Saturday: Vegas Golden Knights forward Grigori Denisenko
has firmly cemented himself as a top-tier AHL forward but has been unable to establish himself at the highest level
The Florida Panthers originally selected Denisenko with the No
but the 5’11” winger has appeared in just 32 NHL games with the Panthers and Golden Knights to this point in his career
Russia product is under contract with Vegas for the coming season at a $775,000 NHL cap hit
Here’s the full list of players waived on Saturday
as first reported by Sportsnet’s Elliotte Friedman:
Lucchini (NASH)Thompson (NYI)Lajoie (SEA)Sokolov (UT)Burke
Also notable among that list is Ethen Frank
who played a leading role in the Hershey Bears capturing the Calder Cup as AHL champions this past spring
The 26-year-old forward collected 29 goals in 64 games with the Bears during the regular season and added 10 more in 18 playoff games with the club
it’s worth shining a spotlight on Egor Sokolov
who joined the Utah Hockey Club this past summer through a trade with the Ottawa Senators for Jan Jenik
is a 6’3″ winger with two points in 13 career NHL games

behavioral data in patients with affection of the cerebellum and brain imaging studies have suggested cerebellar involvement in social cognition
Brain imaging may therefore shed some light on functional organization of potential cerebro-cerebellar networks for social cognition
Neuropsychiatric conditions with altered social cognition often involve cerebellar affection and brain imaging in these patients is therefore thought to provide additional insights on cerebellar interplay with the network for social cognition
and underline the need for further research
converging evidence from behavioral studies in patients with cerebellar damage and neuroimaging in typically developing individuals and those with neuropsychiatric conditions suggests the posterior lateral cerebellar lobules Crus I and II may be involved in the social cognition networks
Correlations between cerebellar activation or connectivity and social impairment provide further insights
intrinsic limitations of both lesion studies and brain imaging call for translational research assessing causality and specificity
These data offered novel perspectives on how the cerebellum may be equipped to contribute to diverse cognitive processes
but assessing higher cognition in animals and particularly rodents with a truly translational potential poses a significant challenge
initial promising steps have been undertaken over the past year
These data suggest cerebro-cerebellar connectivity and resulting pro-social behavior may be restored through stimulation of Crus I
Translational approaches will further deepen our understanding of functional and compensatory mechanisms
as well as causality with respect to cerebellar involvement in social cognition
