Rocky River fisherman Bill Miller points out to Associate David Studenka of Wounded Warriors In Action that the big walleye on the end of his line is still a couple of hundred feet away from becoming an addition to a cooler already chock full of big fish
Ohio – One of the best locations in the nation for catching trophy-sized walleye this weekend is the wide
open waters of Lake Erie just north of Ashtabula Harbor
of Pittsburgh wants to hook up with those big walleye
Jackson is among six Purple Heart veterans hosted here by the Wounded Warriors In Action Foundation

said he is "medically retired" after a sniper's bullet in Iraq devastated his left shoulder
2005 in Al Anbar Province in Iraq," said Jackson
I propped myself up on the hood of a truck and returned fire
Jackson signed on for this weekend's walleye adventure for a couple of reasons
"Some of my fondest memories are hunting and fishing trips with my dad
"Dad died about a year after I was injured
A chance to go on walleye fishing trip like this brings back those great memories of fishing with dad."
Joining other veterans with similar stories
"It's easier to talk about your experiences with guys who have gone through the same types of things," said Jackson

Indiana helped to organize this weekend's campout at Kister Marina on the shores of the Ashtabula River with associates Larry Fielder
Travel trailers accommodate the veterans and volunteers and local angling experts provide the fishing boats
"We call the veterans 'heroes' because they are patriotic Americans who have made so many sacrifices," said Broda
"That's what this country is all about
I hope the six veterans here this weekend will become life-long buddies and continue to fish and hunt together
"I've been on events over the last three years
ranging from a walleye and muskie fishing trip in Wisconsin's north woods to a five-day tuna fishing trip out of San Diego
I've seen how the events bring together veterans
and how sitting around the campfire can bring a 180-degree change in attitude."
Broda was in the Air Force from 1992-1996 and received a Purple Heart after he was injured when his Saudi Arabia barracks were bombed
"I was one of the heroes on the Wisconsin fishing trip," he said
"I was so impressed with the event that I had a heart-to-heart talk with WWIA founder John McDaniel
and McDaniel was looking for self-starters
Making sure the veterans find walleye success this weekend are charter captains Virgil Tent of Cleveland
Bret Berkey of Aurora and Ken Pace of North Olmsted
Also on board are Bill and Diane Miller of Rocky River
Studenka and I about eight miles north of Ashtabula Harbor on Friday
of Cuyahoga Falls was our knowledgeable first mate
After timing the lift bridge in Ashtabula Harbor just right
Miller pointed his twin-engine 33-foot Tiara north and didn't stop until we reached waters 72 feet deep
spoons and spinner rigs tipped with nightcrawlers on wire line or Dipsy Diver diving planers
"Diane and I like to fish this area so much we move the boat here for the late summer and fall fishing," said Miller
a local contractor specializing in medical offices
Miller donated his time and plenty of marine fuel to the weekend event
and was a bundle of energy on the back deck
Studenka and Broda had caught their biggest walleye ever and the cooler perched on the boat's swim platform held a limit of 36 fish for a weekend fish fry
a Caterpillar equipment salesman and avid waterfowl hunter
organized a waterfowl hunt last January in southern Ohio for veterans
Studenka's best friend in high school
was killed while serving with the Army in Iraq
"When I found there had never been a WWIA event in southern Ohio
I felt I had to get involved," said Studenka
Fielder helped organize a special surprise for the Purple Heat veterans
dozens of the American Legion Riders provided a motorcycle escort for a tour of Ashtabula and a special dinner at American Legion Post 103
"The veterans were so impressed with the welcome they received," said Fielder
"And the blue skies and calm water on Saturday morning were perfect for a great day of walleye fishing."

Utah (KUTV) — The son of the pilot who died when his plane struck a North Logan house witnessed the crash
Neighbors said the son was a pilot himself
They said at the time of the crash he was at a barbeque with his friends
The plane crashed into the back of a home in a neighborhood on Meadow Lark Lane
Breanna Studenka said she was watching a movie just a few houses away
but was not initially aware something had happened
"We didn't hear anything,” Studenka said
"We started calling our neighbors and texting our neighbors
and then we looked around and we realized there was a plane on the roof," Studenka said
A family friend of the man who was killed said he was a professional pilot who had flown for Delta Airlines
He had just bought the Aerodyne SeaRey LSX in Seattle two days before the crash
single-engine "amphibious flying boat," capable of landing and taking off from the ground or water
Witnesses said the pilot did a flyby of the barbeque his son was at when something went very wrong
"There were a lot of people up on the roof looking into what we thought was sort of the cockpit of the plane
I think it had sort of gone into the house and we saw the wings,” Studenka said
Neighbors said the pilot's son immediately ran up the hill to the crash
climbing the damaged roof with his friends
"They were looking in to see if they could get somebody out
to see if he was still alive,” Studenka said
They couldn't pull him out of the plane
First responders were eventually able to get the plane off the roof
but officials said the pilot died at the scene
No one was in the house at the time of the crash
Like this little guy's room is 100 meters away on the same side of the house,” Studenka said
The homeowners returned home Sunday evening
The owner of the house told 2Newshe found out about the crash from a picture sent by a neighbor
They have only lived there for about three months
He believed being out of town may have saved his life - he would have been watching basketball on his porch at the time and spot where the plane crashed
The home will be checked for its structural integrity
The pilot's name has not yet been released in respect to family members who have not yet been notified
Neighbors said his son acted amazingly as the tragedy unfolded last night
Officials with the National Transportation Safety Board were investigating the crash
Investigators on the scene said they will look at three things involved in the crash: the pilot
NTSB air safety investigator Fabian Salazar said they will be looking into the pilot's flight record and training
Investigators planned to be at the crash site throughout Sunday
and we'll take it to a secure facility where we we'll continue to examine the aircraft for data,” Salazar said
They will also be looking into if the environment played a role in the crash
The data from the plane will include information about the conditions and altitudes throughout the crash
Investigators were also interviewing witnesses and asking anyone else who saw the crash to contact the NTSB or local police
Salazar said there will be a preliminary report on the crash in about two weeks
The final report and probable cause could take up to a year or more
