announces in a note the President of the Bioparco Foundation of Rome
and in central Germany he lives in semi-freedom
Kuma is a bear born in nature and we are happy that he can
With the guarantee of continuing to be followed and monitored on veterinary aspects
For the delicate operation of the transfer – concludes Palanza – I would like to thank the National Animal Protection Agency which contributed to the cost of the trip from Rome to the recovery centre”
but it has a happy ending: in November 2021 he was found in Gorizia
his health conditions appeared very critical and veterinary visits highlighted a congenital kidney disease
It would therefore have been impossible to reintroduce it into nature
He was then transferred to the University of Udine where he was treated by the veterinarian Stefano Pesaro
it was necessary to find a suitable place to host it and the Rome Biopark was identified
Gradually shyness and distrust gave way to the opposite attitude: he became curious
plays and seeks the company of the keepers
we decided to transfer him to a facility with larger spaces
where he has a one-hectare enclosure available just for him
One of the affectionate guardians who followed him in these two years – concludes Yadid – accompanied him on the journey to the recovery center in Bavaria”

citing the party’s lack of outreach to rural voters and focusing Harris’ campaign on abortion access when most states do not have the most restrictive abortion laws
But Sunny Hostin took issue with Griffin’s argument
prompting Goldberg to jump in and stop the shouting
“Do you think the Republicans missed the moment?” Hostin asked Griffin, interrupting. “What about a postmortem on the Republican Party?” she said before stating voters didn’t choose Harris because of “misogyny.”
“No, it’s on the border,” Griffin shot back, exasperated. Goldberg tried to interject to make a point but was shut down by Griffin as she explained, “Latinos in Texas, a district that’s 97 percent Latino, went 75 percentage points for Donald Trump—why? It’s on the border! The border crisis is on their doorstep! They were begging people to care about it for years!”
Hostin insisted it was all “misogyny” and the hosts continued speaking over each other as Goldberg tried again to get a word in

Baschi has an appearance in the "Beatrice Egli Show" on Saturday
The Basel native is a fan of the Swiss singer and raves: "Beatrice Egli is at the highest level."
It's a great end to the year for Beatrice Egli: the singer from Schwyz will host her Eurovision program "The Beatrice Egli Show" on Saturday
The crème de la crème of pop hits will perform in the fall edition
Beatrice Egli and Baschi have a similar casting past
The pop singer won the 10th season of "DSDS" in 2013
Baschi became a national favorite in 2003 with his appearances on the SRF casting show "MusicStar"
Now the two export hits are on the same stage
Baschi is the star guest on Egli's show of the same name
Egli had asked the singer and songwriter from Basel for an earlier show, but this did not work out due to scheduling reasons, Baschi reveals to "Blick"
But now - Beatrice Egli even has a special wish: to sing Baschi's song "Ehrlich" together
They already performed the ballad together at Baschi's 20th anniversary concert
Baschi says of the deal: "It was a bit of horse-trading with these performances
After their joint performance at Baschi's anniversary concert in September 2024
Egli said of the 38-year-old singer: "He never pretends and always remains authentic - both as a person and as an artist
which makes him so accessible to many people," Egli told Blick at the time
Baschi raves about Beatrice Egli in the same newspaper: "What she does is at the highest level
You first have to manage to have your own international evening show."
The 36-year-old combines all of this with her concert appearances
her work on new music and her job as a "DSDS" judge
Whether you have a gassy newborn or older toddler
the signs of gas in babies are easy to spot
Verywell / Photo Illustration by Madelyn Goodnight / Getty Images
If lactose intolerance is causing your baby's gas
starting 30 minutes to 2 hours after drinking lactose-containing formula
Tummy time is a natural way to put pressure on the abdominal area
simethicone is a popular over-the-counter medicine for gas
It is available for babies as Infants' Mylicon oral drops and generic gas relief drops
If you're unsure whether your infant is drinking correctly from their bottle
a lactation consultant can provide an evaluation and help resolve issues that may be contributing to gas
Parents with a breastfed infant who has painful gas may want to try eliminating milk and milk products from their diet for a week or two
they could have allergic colitis (a sensitivity to cow's milk protein)
but it all depends on the rules of engagement
which tackles issues ranging from parental self-care to how to discuss difficult topics with your children (everything from tech use to racism and bullying)
but we’re guessing parents still need to hear it: Name calling
saying things that are hurtful and disrespectful
swearing at each other—that’s a no-no in general
“There’s a difference between arguing and fighting,” Domingues says
“It’s OK to model for your kids that there can be differences in opinion where the discussion gets heated
but the effort to stay respectful when hearing another person’s point of view is always front of mind.”
If you can wait to argue about a topic you know will get heated
it’s about finding space to talk things out when emotions aren’t running high
‘You want to strike when the iron is cool,’” Domingues says
but also couples in general.” She adds that this is especially true when it comes to repeat argument patterns—i.e
topics that you already know are triggering
like my constant battle with getting my family to pick up after themselves.) “You want to find a time when things are calm and you can constructively troubleshoot the problem together.”
Let’s say the fight is about the dishes in the sink
but make sure your kids also see how you and your spouse reach a resolution
“You want to make clear that you are discussing an issue
Y and Z’ or ‘It’s obvious that X topic gets me upset and heated
It means a lot that you hear me out on it,’” Domingues says
Even just saying the words “I’m sorry” to each other carries meaning and demonstrates that act of repair
it’s about teaching your kids that people can disagree
but still be kind and loving to each other in the process
a fight or difference in opinion doesn’t always mean the worst case scenario
my parents hate each other,” or ‘They’re going to get divorced!’ You want to make clear to them that things are OK.” (FYI
this applies even if you punt the discussion until later: Make the effort to make clear that emotions are OK even if they’re sometimes intense.)
Bottom line: You don’t want to leave your kids guessing or feeling unsafe
This means that if you do lose it over a stressful topic in front of them
it’s OK to come back together and address that
“You want them to know that it’s not about perfection or never getting upset,” Domingues says
but it’s about including your kid in that process
I felt really stressed in the moment and my emotions got the best of me and I’m sorry if that felt scary.’ You could even just open it up to them and say
‘How did you feel and what were you thinking when that happened?’ And then
‘These are the things that I’m going to work on and try next time.’” This leaves channels of communication open—they know they can voice their feelings
but also that you and your spouse are partnering on the resolution
Kids Fighting All the Damn Time? Here’s How to Stop the Hitting and Keep the Peace
Dear Amy: I recently attended a community band concert
which was spoiled by small children in the audience
the family was sitting at the front of the auditorium
so they added to the distraction by not only walking the entire length of the auditorium to remove the crying children
but returning with them later – all the way to the front
What is wrong with inconsiderate people who ruin a pleasant experience
but also for the performers who have worked hard to put on the performance
I understand that parents want to expose their children to varied cultural experiences
but unless the venue has a family “cry-room” they should not expect them to sit still for a long performance
Tell them to sit in the back row so they can make a hasty exit with fussy children
Leave the kiddies at home with a babysitter
Dear Distracted: It is a shame that young members of the community spoiled your experience at a community concert
But there’s an old show-biz saying that I believe applies here:
Community bands and choruses are wonderful organizations where dedicated amateur musicians dust off instruments from the back of their coat closets
and perform for a grateful and understanding audience
This is a fun and challenging opportunity to show your chops alongside your friends and neighbors and perform in a low-pressure setting
parents should hustle crying and fussing babies out – and then bring them back in when they’ve calmed down (during applause in between musical selections)
But here’s a reminder: Many people are only now venturing out again after years of being sequestered
You might try to hear the noises made by fractious babies as being part of the larger human symphony
Dear Amy: Before my son was born over 40 years ago
my ex-husband was said to have a low sperm count
We decided to use artificial insemination to conceive our eldest
we had two other children naturally without artificial insemination
My husband and I divorced after 20 years of marriage
More:Requesting a wedding plus one is awkward
More:A husband grapples with his wife’s child-free choice
My problem is that I don’t know if I should tell my son
He obviously does not want to deal with it
he or one of his children may have a medical issue where he needs to know the facts of his conception
I am in a quandary and have no idea what to do
Dear Mom: You feel strongly that your son should know the truth behind his conception (I agree)
You are not able to get his father to participate in this important conversation
I believe that knowing the truth of your DNA is a human right
He might face a challenge wondering how he relates to his father and siblings
He might choose to shelve this topic permanently – or pick it up later
The Donor Sibling Registry (https://donorsiblingregistry.com/) offers an array of tools and information for donor conceived people and their families
Dear Amy: Your answer to “Not Going to Apologize This Time” was bad
Their father came to show his respect for their mother at her funeral
These children denied him this poignant goodbye
A funeral is a formal chance for everyone to mourn
who treated their mother “terribly,” claimed that he was attending the funeral “to support his children.” His children did not want him there
Showing respect for their needs was one way he could have honored the relationship

It is logical that solar and lunar eclipses fascinate and terrify humanity
which in itself makes them relatively weird
That fact is as true today as it was in ancient times even though modern fears are far less catastrophic and involve far less banging and human sacrifice (let's go with none)
When I say people are fascinated by eclipses
Eclipses famously change the behavior of animals puzzled by the change in sunlight
a solar eclipse takes place after the extinction of the dinosaurs in the 1940 Disney movie "Fantasia" and Audrey II
is born from another solar eclipse in "Little Shop of Horrors."
The April 8 total eclipse that will be visible across Ohio is no different
Some folks are considering the bad things that can happen
Solar eclipse 2024: How to watch the April 8 event and protect your eyes, kids and nerves
State lawmakers earmarked $1 million in the budget to reimburse communities that incur emergency response costs connected to the three minutes and 40 seconds of total darkness
It will mark the first time in 200 years Ohio will experience a total solar eclipse. Columbus is not in the path of totality but those in Toledo, Bowling Green, Lima, Mansfield, Akron, Cleveland, Springfield and Dayton will get the full show
And what a unique show it will be — weather cooperating
The April 8 eclipse — the "Great North American Eclipse" — will be the last one visible from the contiguous United States until Aug
The very real April 8 eclipse is expected to draw masses to the Buckeye State
Rebecca Owens, director of the Richland County Emergency Management Agency, has predicted the Mansfield area alone could see as many as 250,000 guests the weekend of the eclipse
Richland County had 124,936 residents in 2020
Concern about the crush of out-of-town visitors and gridlock — total eclipses are big deals that people want to see for themselves — Summit County officials have advised residents there to watch the eclipse from their own backyard or a very nearby park
Fears about the traffic associated with eclipses are better than the fears that came with them in ancient days
and banging drums could generate noise complaints
What we do have is the potential for traffic congestion and salty attitudes
The Batammaliba people's response seems the best option in modern times
let's set an example of peace for the moon and sun

Some of the highest-profile women in the House clashed in a chaotic hearing Thursday night
slinging personal insults and frustrating Chairman James Comer
the leader of investigations into the Biden administration that have so far failed to yield any major bombshells.
The yelling match was instigated by GOP Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene of Georgia at a meeting of the House Oversight Committee. The committee met to consider a motion to hold Attorney General Merrick Garland in contempt of Congress for not releasing the audio recording of President Joe Biden’s interview with special counsel Robert Hur
who led the investigation into Biden’s handling of classified documents.
The Department of Justice (DOJ) has already released the full transcript of the interview, but the White House on Thursday claimed executive privilege to withhold the recording
White House counsel Ed Siskel argued that House Republicans would selectively edit and “distort” the audio for partisan political attacks
Very quickly, the hearing went off the rails. Greene, a Trump ally and far-right member who recently failed to oust the House speaker

Jasmine Crockett of Texas to ask: “What does that have to do with Merrick Garland?” and
“I don’t know you know what we’re doing,” Greene said
“I think your fake eyelashes are messing up what you’re reading.”
Greene’s dig spurred a heated exchange with Democratic Rep
who called Greene’s comments “absolutely unacceptable” and demanded her words be taken down.
How dare you attack the physical appearance of another person
are your feelings hurt?” Greene sarcastically asked.

Greene later challenged Ocasio-Cortez on why she wouldn’t debate her.
“I think it’s pretty self-evident,” Ocasio-Cortez replied
you don’t have enough intelligence,” Greene hit back
spurring a round of boos and jeers from committee members.
Crockett is a first-term member of Congress from the Dallas area and
while not a member of the progressive “Squad,” often is allied with its members
After some discussion of parliamentary procedure
Comer ruled that Greene’s dig lacked decorum but did not violate rules against attacking other members
Greene agreed to strike her words but refused to apologize
Crockett then raised a point of order with an alliterative insult seemingly aimed at Greene.
if someone on this committee then starts talking about somebody’s bleach-blonde
that would not be engaging in personalities
“A what now?” a stunned Comer replied.
said the shouting and crosstalk made it difficult for him to quell the unfolding brouhaha as Ocasio-Cortez later moved to strike Greene’s remarks insulting her intelligence.

His death comes almost exactly two months after that of Caffara’s friend and collaborator
who passed away July 5 while on vacation in Bad Füssing
Vatican City, Sep 6, 2017 / 09:00 am (CNA/EWTN News).- On Tuesday the Vatican announced that Cardinal Carlo Caffarra
He was known for pastoral and academic work in support of marriage and families
especially through the founding of the Pontifical John Paul II Institute for Marriage and Family
No details regarding the late prelate’s death were included in the Sept
his death comes almost exactly two months after that of Caffara’s friend and collaborator
Cardinals Caffara and Meisner were among the four cardinals who penned a letter with five “dubia,” or questions
about the interpretation of Amoris laetitia to Pope Francis
requesting that he “resolve the uncertainties and bring clarity.”
Meisner and Cardinals Walter Brandmüller and Raymond Leo Burke
the letter was sent to Pope Francis privately on Sept
but was released to the public two months later
The four cardinals believed themselves obliged to submit the dubia because of “the fact – which only a blind man could deny – that in the Church there exists great confusion, uncertainty, insecurity caused by some paragraphs of Amoris laetitia,” Caffarra said in a Jan. 14 interview with Matteo Matzuzzi of the Italian publication “Il Foglio.”
Caffarra said the letter and its dubia “were long reflected on
they were also the subject of lengthy prayer before the Most Blessed Sacrament.”
in terms of fundamental questions regarding the sacramental economy (marriage
with the intention of interpreting well the same text.”
The cardinal said that “the way out of this ‘conflict of interpretations’ was to have recourse to fundamental theological criteria of interpretation
the use of which I think can reasonably demonstrate that Amoris laetitia does not contradict Familiaris consortio.”
“we saw that this epistemological model would not suffice
The contrast between the two interpretations continued,” and so the only way to address the question was to ask the author of Amoris laetitia to clarify it
Caffarra was ordained a priest in 1961 and was widely known for his work in the area of marriage and the family
He held a doctorate in canon law from the Pontifical Gregorian University
as well as a diploma of specialization in moral theology from the Pontifical Alfonsian Academy
and in 1974 he was tapped by Pope Paul VI as a member of the International Theological Commission
he participated as a representative of the Holy See at the First World Congress on human sterility and artificial procreation in Venice
Caffarra was named an expert at the Synod of Bishops on Marriage and the Family
John Paul II as founder and president of the John Paul II Institute for Marriage and the Family
He also served as a consultant for the Vatican’s Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith from 1983-1988
and was longstanding a friend of the dicastery’s prefect
During his tenure as consultant for the Vatican’s doctrinal department
Caffarra also participated in a study on genetic engineering launched by Italy’s health ministry
he officially founded the John Paul II Institute for Marriage and Family in Washington D.C.
bringing it to Mexico and Spain shortly after
he was named Archbishop of Ferrara-Comacchio
a position he held until his appointment in 2003 as Archbishop of Bologna
where he served until his retirement in 2015
He was named cardinal by Benedict XVI in 2006
and he also held an honorary doctorate in Christian Literature from the Franciscan University of Steubenville
Caffarra was appointed by Pope Francis as a participant in both the Extraordinary Synod of Bishops on the Family in 2014
and the Ordinary Synod on the Family in 2015
Other roles the cardinal held were as a member of the Vatican’s Congregation for the Causes of Saints and the Supreme Tribunal of the Apostolic Signatura
He was also an honorary member of the Pontifical Academy for Life
The cardinal’s funeral will be celebrated Saturday
in Bologna’s San Petronino cathedral by the diocese’s current Archbishop
A memorial vigil will be held in the cathedral the night before

Stitch Heads Entertainment and Raw Fury made the right call to have an early build go live for Superfuse because this game has a lot of the right elements
you pick your superhero from only a handful of build types and go through a quick training
you are likely not to see them until you reach the town portion of the game
Run through the first little zone and reach the town that has the initial waypoint to activate and your first round of characters with shops and quests
Your first mission will send you out to gather a certain amount of dropped items from enemies and bring them back to town
This wasn’t a great first mission choice to go with as it immediately showed an issue while playing online
My colleague and I had our lobby open and someone joined us
but then collected more of the corrupted items than they needed
leaving not enough for us to finish the quest on our end
we tried revisiting the location in hopes that enemies respawned and found it still deserted
we had to restart the server just to do it again - this time locked
the ability points gained were usable in a skill tree that unlocked moves
You could also use the points to power up your character with the different options in the tree
I didn’t notice that the different types of skills for my elementalist were hidden behind a tab and I put my first couple of points into the wrong element as I was going for an ice build
you can place them in your quick-use slots
From then you can use those new powers quickly to take down foes with your much more powerful attacks
you’ll need to keep on the lookout for fuses as you can attach them to your active abilities to make them even better
There are some fuses that power up the ability but have a rather annoying affect
so building a custom powerhouse attack is completely viable with the right fuse combination
you move around by clicking where you want to be on the mouse
Holding down the left mouse click button will make the movement continue smoothly
you need to be highlighting or simply facing in the direction of the enemy you want to hit
Melee attacks require you to be up close and should be reserved for the heavy hitters
you are able to find plenty of equipment and potions on your journey
You can utilize four different types of potions
Simply swap out the container on your belt and find refills for that particular container
Equipment can be swapped out on your person
there are weapons worth holding on to for the stat boost
They need to work on their collaboration with other players
Putting things like a cap on how many key items for a quest you can collect would be an easy way to stop people from trolling or unobservantly over- collecting items that all players need
I think it is better just having quests ask players to clear a certain amount of a specific enemy
I didn’t experience any issues with the quests that followed this one - so far
I like that there are different shops for different things
but the first city didn’t have a shop with fuses in it
it was too easy to overlook because I am certain I talked to each NPC there
Seeing how fuses play a big role in this game
they should be available in every city area with shops
it would help introduce the player to using fuses on their characters properly and have a whole NPC ready to explain what they are
There are definitely going to be more superhero types to select from
The options available now feel very slim and even the ones that are available seem like they have room for improvement
There are so many possibilities to lean into with this genre of game and general content
they are planning on getting a full roster of options set up
but fun beginning for a top-down action game
I really like the potential the game has and being a huge Diablo series fan
and general overhauls to increase the player’s experience still
but nothing that an early access game of this genre and caliber wouldn’t have to work on
I can’t wait for their next update and seeing what they do to improve the game
Superfuse is available now on PC via Steam Early Access.

If your newborn seems fussier on the second night than the day they were born, you're not alone. Experts explain the experience and share tips to help you cope.
[your] baby is usually worn out and not too fussy," she wrote
Don't be surprised if he/she is extra fussy that night
I can attest that this is a very real thing
my husband and I exchanged jokes about how we finally had a "calm" and "relaxed" baby
My son seemingly slept through his first 24 hours of life so effortlessly
and we thought we'd won the baby lottery
we had returned home – with no night nurses offering to take him to the nursery so we could get some shut-eye – and
Second night syndrome is a term that describes the common experience of how the second day of a newborn's life can look drastically different from the first
"The first night after birth, the infant tends to appear very mellow, sleeping the majority of the day and only waking to feed before quickly going back to sleep," explains Gary KirkilasOpens a new window
a pediatrician and spokesperson for the American Academy of Pediatrics
"The second night is when the baby is more aware
There's little research on the concept of "second night syndrome," and it's not officially recognized as a "syndrome" or medical condition
this type of behavior is often completely normal and not a sign of illness
all an infant's needs are perfectly met," Dr
"The temperature is kept constant at a warm 98.6 degree Fahrenheit amniotic bath
and all of the infant's nutritional needs – fluids
fats – are instantly delivered by the mother via the umbilical cord."
"They now have to get comfortable sleeping in a crib instead of their cozy womb
the ambient temperature can fluctuate in the room
and the number of layers the baby is wearing can contribute to feeling too cold or too warm," he says
There's no denying that the experience going from womb to room is quite the abrupt adjustment
There are a common set of signs that you can expect with second night syndrome — although they may not occur not until nights three or four
To help you and your baby cope with second night syndrome
the best thing you can do is try to mimic the womb as much as possible
The womb maintains a nice and cozy temperature during pregnancy, and you'll want to nursery to feel the same way. Set the thermostat for 68 to 72 degrees F, and dress your newborn in a onesie or (even better) a swaddle to help keep their core temp at 98.6 degrees
Whether you're breast- or formula feeding
another way to keep your baby warm is to feed skin to skin
or with your baby wearing only a diaper and lying on your bare chest
This gives your baby comfort and may lead to your baby crying less
Second night syndrome typically lasts a few days (between days two and seven) as your newborn adjusts to feeding and life in general outside the womb
but it will likely diminish after that second or third night
If your baby is continually inconsolable after consecutive feeds
visit the pediatrician to make sure nothing else is at play
Fever (temperature of more than 100.4 degrees Fahrenheit)
Symptoms of jaundice (the yellowing of your infant's eyes or skin)
Profuse vomiting (occasional spit-ups are normal but forceful vomiting is not)
White-colored stools or blood in the stools
You also want to count the number of wet and dirty diapers each day
there should be a dirty diaper every six hours by day four
pediatric hospitalist at Stony Brook Children's Hospital
you may want to speak with your doctor to discuss supplementation," she adds
remember that second night syndrome is normal and doesn't mean something is wrong with your baby
If you're still at the hospital for this period
lean on the staff for help navigating fussy infant behavior
don't hesitate to call your doctor or midwife for reassurance and guidance for calming your baby

Not everyone fears aging. There are also those who embrace it, and suggest that, instead of viewing aging as something to overcome, we should view it as “second adulthood” — an opportunity in life after retirement
consolidate and share experiences of lives that were meaningfully lived
The media is largely responsible for creating and driving ageist stereotypes of older adults. An analysis of more than one billion entries in British and American media databases found that negative aging descriptions were six times higher than the positive descriptions
The study found that negative descriptions of older adults tended to be physical
positive descriptions tended to be behavioural
Visual representations of aging create good and bad stereotypes
Images of active and happy older adults create positive ageist stereotypes
while images of vulnerable and frail older adults create compassionate ageist stereotypes that are patronizing
These positive and negative stereotypes have cultural and political implications that determine how societies care for their older generations
For example, a study about how older adults were portrayed in news media covering disasters in Canada showed a mismatch in communication between journalists and the older individuals whose stories were reported
The media portrayed older adults on a spectrum from vulnerable to heroic
By focusing on narratives of the brave older adult fighting for their home
journalists diverted the attention from the real need for disaster relief
Our own investigation of the reactions on the social media to mainstream media articles about how older adults were coping with COVID-19 stress showed that older adults strongly objected to the writers’ assumptions about their coping needs
We also found a generational difference between parents and children in understanding older adult coping resources
Helping older adults age successfully is now a worldwide research initiative. In 2021, the World Health Organization (WHO) announced a collaboration with the United Nations’ agenda called the Decade of Healthy Ageing to improve the lives of older people and their communities
healthy aging means the ability to maintain mental and physical capacity for staying mobile and active
concerns with aging seem to be motivated by a good cause
but upon closer inspection these concerns can be problematic
those who are unable to age successfully are implicitly stigmatized
As gerontologist Tracey Gendron argues in her book Ageism Unmasked
overstating the necessity of retaining independence and functionality in later years of life gives rise to ageism
Robert Neil Butler, the founding director of the National Institute on Aging, coined the term Ageism in 1969. In his highly cited article Age-Ism: Another Form of Bigotry he wrote:
“We have chosen mandatory retirement from the work force and thus removed the elderly from the mainstream of life
Ageism is manifested in the taunting remarks about "old fogeys” in the special vulnerability of the elderly to muggings and robberies
in age-discrimination in employment independent of individual competence
and in the probable inequalities in the allocation of research funds.“
to further emphasize the necessity of increasing funding for studying aging
Butler reverted back to highlighting the narrative of age-related deficit: "persons 65 years of age and over account for 25% of all public mental hospital admissions.”
This is the catch-22, or the double bind created by paradoxical messaging from the same source
most researchers that focus on aging justify their proposals based on age-related deficits
In a recent literature review of assistive information technologies for healthy aging
we found that the narrative of aging as a vulnerability or impending cost dominated the rationales for conducting research
A multinational study of self-ageism shows that self-ageism — internalized prejudices against one’s own age — is culturally grounded
Yale health professor Becca Levy has extensively researched the adverse effects of self-ageism on both mental and physical health
Beliefs about aging shape all aspects of our lives
Negative stereotypes of aging mean older adults are less willing to seek help when they need it. Ageism and a lack of age-friendly communications alienate older adults from participating in research about their health
This makes them shy away from seeking care
or participating in research that can benefit them
Those who study successful aging are well aware that age — as a generalizing variable — does not predict the capacities or needs of older study participants
But then why do we keep using age as a numerical or categorical index
This catch-22 is a conflict in communication — the words researchers use to communicate their goals matter
If researchers wish to address the growing needs of older populations in a meaningful way and create effective assistive care strategies
they should stop sampling by age and start sampling by needs instead
To lock individuals into the narrative of age as a vulnerability means inevitably creating ageist stereotypes

It’s not every day that comments about fake eyelashes make their way onto the floor of the House of Representatives
lawmakers reached a new low when Marjorie Taylor Greene made a jab about Jasmine Crockett’s eyelashes
The nation’s leaders were supposed to be debating whether or not Attorney General Merrick Garland should be held in contempt for refusing to turn over recordings of President Joe Biden’s interview with Special Counsel Robert Hur when Greene responded to a question from Crockett with an insult
“I think your fake eyelashes are messing up what you’re reading,” the far-right Georgia representative told Crockett
moved to strike Greene’s comment from the record and asked her to apologize to Crockett
“That is absolutely unacceptable.” Ocasio-Cortez added: “How dare you attack the physical appearance of another person?”
In response, Greene asked AOC
“Why don’t you debate me?” When Ocasio-Cortez responded
“it’s pretty self-evident,” Greene then told AOC
“You don’t have enough intelligence.” Greene finally agreed to have her comment about Crockett struck from the record
“You will never get an apology out of me.”
House Oversight Committee chair James Comer eventually ruled that Greene’s comment didn’t break the House’s rules about personal attacks
Crockett then asked for clarification on the rules: “I’m just curious
If someone on this committee then starts talking about somebody’s bleach-blonde
correct?” Things went off the rails from there
telling Crockett she was “out of control” and needed to “calm down.” “Don’t tell me to calm down,” Crockett said
the lawmakers went back to their original debate
ultimately voting along party lines to hold Garland in contempt

All couples fight. It's completely natural, and comes with the territory of being in a relationship
But when you find yourself bickering more than usual
“How much fighting is too much?” and "Are we totally screwed?"
Before you freak out and think your relationship is doomed because you had two fights last week, know this: it’s normal to have arguments and disagreements with your partner, says Joseph Cilona
a licensed clinical psychologist in New York City
"There is no one correct formula when it comes to frequency of conflict
and there is no one correct way to navigate conflict that’s right for all couples,” he says
or you don't trust your partner to handle your feelings
instead of focusing on how often you fight as couple
Read on to discover 11 tips to help you fight more productively
When you're in the heat of the moment and feeling emotional
it's tough to think before you open your mouth
But taking a pause before you launch into a complaint will allow you to frame your grievance more effectively
A few simple seconds gives you enough time to step back from squabbles and think: "How can I say this so my partner will hear it?" This quick
mental timeout will help you help you choose a kinder and calmer way to approach the situation
and make you more likely to be heard as a result
Saying "I'm hurt" or "I feel really angry" instead of "You screwed up!" will lead to a more productive dialogue because it takes your partner off of the defensive
a couples psychotherapist based in New York
Speaking in terms of how you feel and offering potential solutions to try together
rather than blaming your partner completely
will remind you that you're in a partnership and need to work together to have a stronger relationship
arguments can often devolve into personal attacks (think name-calling
criticizing the core of who someone is or how they look)—and that is definitely not healthy for your relationship
If you're constantly rehashing old arguments
fighting about the same things over and over with no resolution or compromise
or feeling upset about the fact that you’re fighting all the time
John Gottman
world-renowned psychologist and relationship expert
says that one of the predictors of divorce occurs when a person consistently attacks her partner's character rather than isolating the specific issues that are upsetting
"Of course you didn't do the dishes again
You're lazy!"—which will either put your partner on the defense or make him retreat or resent you—try isolating the specific complaint or issue you have
"I feel frustrated when I come home to a sink full of dirty dishes
Can we set up a schedule for our chores so this doesn't happen again?"
there's a tendency to talk more than to listen
We're so eager to get our feelings out
we may not even hear what our loved one is trying to express
Batterson says that the person who has an issue is the one that needs to be listened to
She suggests that instead of immediately defending yourself
just listen and let your partner know that you heard them
This approach is effective because it not only shows that you were listening
but that you understand what your partner was saying or where they were coming from
You're more likely to have a more productive dialogue instead of a full blowout argument when you just listen
The reality is that most of us recycle arguments and can almost exactly predict how our partner is going to respond
"It's a good thing for people to recognize their 'dialogue demons' so they can re-frame the argument
Instead of pointing the finger at the other person
they can ask themselves how they're contributing to the argument and try a new approach." The important piece is that you frame your argument with respect and kindness so that you give your loved one a chance to respond in kind
A lot of couples might keep it to themselves when they're mad at each other because they're scared of starting potentially relationship-threatening arguments
But a recent study found that avoiding these conversations is actually more likely to harm a relationship than help it
The survey asked 935 people in committed relationships about how they handled conflict and how fulfilling and promising their partnerships were
The results were striking: People who talked through conflicts were 10 times more likely to be happy with their relationships
those who blamed their partners for the lack of communication were more likely to be unhappy
"Those thinking about raising sensitive issues with a loved one should weigh the possible risks of speaking up against the certain risks of not speaking up," said Joseph Grenny
the bestselling author and social scientist who conducted the study
you tend to act them out — and as a result
The biggest mistake is to fool yourself into thinking that *not *talking about concerns reduces the risk of problems—it doesn't."
Another key tip for addressing relationship issues effectively
Put yourself in your partner's shoes by brainstorming reasons why a sensible person might behave the way they did
It will help you better understand their actions
It's easy to let your emotions get the best of you, but try as hard as you can not to threaten to break up or get divorced
those words can leave a lasting impact on the person who hears them
and cause them to feel insecure in the relationship long after the fight is over
If a fight with your partner has ever made you feel physically, emotionally, or psychologically unsafe, that's a major red flag, according to the experts. Couples fighting is healthy only as long as it stays fair and safe.
If you've spent any time around very young children
you know they can sometimes be pretty stinky
But particularly pungent urine in a child who is fussy or feverish could be a sign of infection
which can be difficult to do in children younger than 3
irritability or vomiting — aren't all that specific
and collecting a reliable urine sample usually involves a catheter
Reports of stinky urine in a feverish child should be another red flag for doctors, according to a newly published study by Canadian researchers in Pediatrics
"If the child has fever and at the same time his urine smells stronger than usual
the risk of having a urine infection is a little bit increased compared to a child not having smelly urine," Dr
a pediatrician at Sainte-Justine University Hospital Center in Montreal
She and her fellow researchers studied 331 children ranging in age from 1 month to 3 years old who were brought into Sainte-Justine's emergency room and had a urine culture because doctors suspected infection
Parents were asked to complete an eight-question survey
including two questions about whether their child's urine smelled stronger than normal or offensive
Parents mentioned malodorous pee in 57 percent of the 51 kids diagnosed with a urinary tract infection and in 32 percent of the 280 children who didn't have infection
Gauthier says the foul odor may be due to the production of ammonia from bacteria
While this is often cited as a symptom of urinary tract infection
She emphasizes that the latest findings are mostly something for doctors to think about
Stinky pee accompanied by fever increases the likelihood of infection — but the association isn't strong enough to make a diagnosis one way or the other
the presence of another risk factor might help doctors decide whether to collect urine from a child when doing so might require invasive measures
"I think that most of us do not ask parents this question when we assess a young child in the ER for unexplained fever," says Gauthier
who also teaches at the University of Montreal's Department of Pediatrics
it's not necessarily a reason to do a urine test
but we should be a little bit more cautious."
If a child hasn't eaten for 12 or 24 hours and has vomited and is a little dehydrated
Certain foods such as asparagus can also produce a funky whiff
Gauthier says if a young child has an unexplained fever for more than 24 hours

Encouraging children to eat a balanced diet is a significant cause for concern for many parents and carers
Children of the 90s data now provides compelling evidence to reassure them that while a child’s fussy eating is distressing
it’s unlikely to have any long-term impact on their children’s health
Toddlers are commonly known to go through a phase of picky eating
Their reluctance to try new foods or insist on eating only certain foods creates anxiety for parents and carers
who often fear their children will suffer ill health later in life
Dr Caroline Taylor from the University of Bristol’s Centre for Academic Child Health has led a number of studies using Children of the 90s data to explore the long-term effects of picky or fussy eating
measuring health indicators such as height
“Much of the existing work concentrates on psychological and behavioural aspects rather than diet and health effects,” says Dr Taylor
who highlights the value of these studies in understanding long-term growth and development patterns
“What we’ve been able to do that other studies haven’t is to gain a detailed understanding of dietary habits and the effects they have.”
7,000 participants were assessed at the ages of two
Dr Taylor and fellow researchers found that children who were described by their parents as ‘picky eaters’ were getting enough to eat overall but tended to eat less meat
but only very rarely at worryingly low levels
Picky eaters also consumed more sugary foods and drinks than non-picky eaters
Another study characterised the diets of 300 children aged between seven and 17 years old who had been identified as picky eaters when they were toddlers
The results were compared with 900 children in the same study who were not picky eaters
When the diets of children from both groups were compared when they were all 10 years old
those who had been picky eaters at the age of three still ate less fruit
there were still differences but they were less pronounced
weight and body mass index (BMI) of the children who were picky eaters when they were toddlers were also found to be normal for their age – measured as above the 50th centiles
which indicates the average measurement for all children in the population
“Early choosiness is a normal part of growing up; parents can relax in the knowledge that this phase shouldn’t limit their children’s growth,” says Dr Taylor
they looked at 6,000 responses to a questionnaire asking participants for the reasons behind picky eating
50% of three-year-olds whose mothers were worried about their child’s diet at 18 months old turned out to be picky eaters
Where mothers were more relaxed about their children’s eating habits at 18 months
the children were less likely to be picky eaters at 3 years old (17% of participants)
The timing of being introduced to solid foods was also significant - where children weren’t given solids until they were 9 months old
they were more likely to be fussy about their food by the time they turned 3 years old
carers and healthcare professionals was an instrumental part of sharing these findings in a way that would help them manage picky eating and access further advice in rare more serious cases
Dr Taylor’s team held live Q&As on Facebook
made a podcast and delivered talks to groups of parents and schoolchildren
offering practical suggestions such as regular family mealtimes with home-cooked foods
encouraging parents to lead by example with their own dietary habits
and introducing a variety of foods early on and into adolescence
“Picky eating in children is very common
but for those few children at risk of not ‘growing out of it’ we are working on ways to identify them early on
so they can have the help and support they need,” adds Dr Taylor
“We would like to see strategies developed for use in pre-school years to support parents
as well as the development of tools to help identify the few children who are likely to become fixed in their picky eating behaviour so that extra support can be given.”

the gates of the heaven are opened and the gates of Hell are closed and the devils are chained." narrated Abu Huraira (Al-Bukhari Vol
The arrival of the month of Shaban offers a tired old subject to participants in Muslim events
and Internet chat groups: the day to start and end the month of Ramadan
The issue of moon sighting has become moon fighting
both sides of the divide are divided over the question that what is really the 'new' moon
both sides of the divide base their arguments on the Hadith: "Do not fast unless you sight the crescent
and do not break your fast till you sight the (following) crescent." (Al-Bukhari
The Islamic Shura Council of North America (ISCNA)
in consultation with the Fiqh Council of North America
has adopted the position that a confirmed crescent sighting report in North America will be accepted as long as such a report does not contradict indisputable astronomical information
ISCNA comprises the four major Islamic organizations in the U.S.: the Islamic Circle of North America (ICNA)
The Fiqh Council viewpoint is also supported by the research done by eminent scholars such as Dr
Yousuf Al-Qaradawi and Shaikh Mustafa Al-Zarqa
expressing his disappointment over the issue
says: "In the present era of scientific and technological advancement
three decades after man landed on the moon
some Muslims are still avoiding the use of scientific knowledge for making an Islamic calendar and get over with the feuds and having to wait till midnight for a confirmation of moon sighting."
Muslims have expertise and access to technology to understand the calculations of when and where the sighting occurs
Recorded data shows how the science of moon sighting is compared with the actual observations
The results show that calculations of sighting and observations have matched every month since 1993
Calculations of moon sighting and actual sighting are not two different things for an Islamic Calendar when it was found that they both match."
He stresses that the results show that with today's technology
calculations are far more accurate than the claims of sighting
that often people mistake other objects for the crescent moon
Shaukat points out that calculations for sighting are surety (haqqul-yaqeen)
while claims of sighting may be suspicion (zann) or mistake
He says that Allah has given us the knowledge about the motions of earth and moon
and an Islamic calendar based on calculations that has proven to match with actual sighting would enable us to plan ahead of time
while actual sighting will prove to be confirmatory
only meets the intent of Qur'an and Sunnah and its benefits greatly surpass the consequences faced by false claims of sighting and waiting for a decision until midnight
The most misunderstood question is whether the sighting is a means or a requirement of ascertaining the beginning of an Islamic month
Shaukat says that the answer to this question is better understood by people in the Caribbean (Caribbean Islands
and Guyana) where they have a 6-month long rainy season and sighting is not possible because of clouds
If they count 30 days for 3 or 4 months in a row
the moon is then sighted on the 28th or 27th day
is a clear indication that the Sharia did not intend the sighting as an only requirement but simply as a facility
that was the sole method available to the Muslims of that era
The opponents of scientific calculations also cite Bukhari
and maintain that the people at the time of the Prophet were illiterate and thus physical sighting was the method prescribed by Allah and thus cannot be changed
there are differences on the number of witnesses needed for confirming such a sighting
The Fiqh Council's view that physical sighting must go hand in hand with scientific calculations finds numerous grounds in the Hadith
which serves as coordinator of the ISCNA moon sighting program
has set up a system where people who claim sighting the moon call the headquarters
The scientists then examine this information and discuss the various nuances with the reporter to establish the veracity of his sighting
The need for such dual sighting is only strengthened by the fact that in contemporary times when the skies are also inhabited by numerous man made objects that may befool the viewer. More >>
The proponents of determining the start of Ramadan purely by calculations offer two main arguments
the Hadith "Do not fast until you see the crescent-moon
and do not break the fast until you have seen the crescent moon
but if conditions are overcast for you then enumerate for it." [Bukhari] They cite the statement
"then enumerate for it" as evidence for the permissibility of calculation
they say that calculations were not used during the Prophet's time because the people were "unlettered," however
we are now educated and advanced in astronomy
there is no harm in calculating alone.
The first argument cannot be sustained because if "enumerate" in the above hadith is in fact referring to calculation
it would only indicate the permissibility of calculations in overcast conditions
the meaning of "enumerate" is clarified by another narration of the hadith by Bukhari (also
"Then complete the number of [days of] Sha`ban as thirty." [Nasb al-Rayah
2/437-8] This hadith clarifies what is meant by "enumerate" in the first narration is to count thirty days
for the first narration is general and imprecise (mujmal)
"It is obligatory to refer the mujmal to the mubayyan
and this is the way of the scholars of usul
without any disagreement." [Bidayat al-Mujtahid
The second argument about the people being "unlettered" is refuted by the fact that there were many among the Companions who were not only well read but also scholarly
what "unlettered" refers to is that the means for determining the month are simple
not requiring sophisticated science or education
scientists as well as non-scientists.
The Middle Way Islam is a strong proponent of using reason
Today the fact is that astronomy can accurately establish the time of birth of the new moon
and the time interval when it is impossible to see the crescent-moon due its not yet being present
there is no harm in using this astronomical basis to reject a claimed sighting which cannot possibly be correct
this is similar to rejecting the claim of someone who claims to have seen the crescent-moon on the twentieth night of Shaban!
Islam asks us to use the scientific method
if a sighting is reported when it was absolutely impossible for it to have occurred
even if the one reporting it is an upright Muslim
This rejection is attributed to genuine misjudgment
which does not diminish the person's Islamic uprightness and acceptability as a witness
Numerous renowned as well as recent and contemporary scholars support this view
Universal Sighting? The proponents of using the sighting in Makkah to begin Ramadan anywhere on earth argue that a sighting in one area is binding on Muslims in other areas as well.
Tirmidhi and Nasa'i rejects argues against a sighting being binding on distant places
who traveled to Syria encountered the start of Ramadan there on a Friday
informed Ibn Abbas that he had seen the crescent-moon on the night of Friday
Ibn Abbas replied that they (in Medina) had seen the crescent-moon on Saturday
and that they would not stop fasting until they either saw it again
"Will you not suffice with the sighting of Muawiyah?" Ibn Abbas replied
that is how the Messenger of Allah commanded us."
we need to consider that just as Muslims around the world will not pray simultaneously
rather each area will pray based on the movement of the sun in their area
how could they start and end fasting simultaneously.
The presence of numerous hadith on this issue only indicates that even the Companions and their later contemporaries differed about the start and end of Ramadan
such difference did not cause disunity among them
and so there is no reason why it should for us

the pop singer says she is now consciously taking a break - before continuing with her next concerts at the end of August
Ticino seems to be the perfect place for her to escape the stresses of everyday life as a singer for a moment
And why not combine the pleasant with the useful

the stay in Ticino is a collaboration with Ascona-Locarno Tourism

Stories and quotes about fighting for love are always inspirational
Most of us grew up reading tales of legends who sacrificed their lives for love
No force in the world is powerful enough to separate two souls who fall in love
Because that’s what love does; it makes people blind
The fight for the love that begins when two individuals commit to each other continues despite the trials and tribulations the relationship goes through
It is respect that keeps the relationship alive
we bring to you these quotes that show your loved ones that you care for them and will fight for them
A person in love finds beauty in all the little things that he wouldn’t notice otherwise
Check out these beautiful quotes about love to rekindle the fire inside you
and there is nothing on this earth I wouldn’t do for you
walk through fire for you and fight your demons if that’s what you needed from me.” – Aurora Rose Reynolds
Love doesn’t look for the path of least resistance
“Love is the only thing worth fighting for.”– Lauren Kate
it doesn’t come back unless you really fight for it
two people have to fall apart to realize how much they need to fall back together
One of these days you’re going to fall in love
Choose the girl that doesn’t come easy; the one you have to fight for
Because you make me believe there are things worth fighting for
The course of true love never did run smooth
Love has nothing to do with what you are expecting to get
only with what you are expecting to give – which is everything
When you find that one that’s right for you
To be brave is to love someone unconditionally
When I feel the support that I have from him
There’s someone behind you on your good days and someone in front of you on your bad days
The only man worth having in your life is one that would never let you walk away
The real bond and real love is something that is actually worth fighting for
Be a woman of confidence and self-respect; give a man a reason worth fighting for
To give life…is to know what’s worth fighting for
There are some things in life that are worth fighting for to the end
Keep your head up because one day one person will fight like hell for you
It is an active battlefield where you fight for the one you love
You’ve always been the girl worth fighting for
I’ll spend the rest of my life proving to you that you’re the only thing left worth fighting for
You don’t run from the people who need you
Many people lack the passion to keep trying in their relationships
I believe that is why people start to resent their lovers and start cheating on them
Love is so wonderful and so worth fighting for
And if you’re willing to risk everything to be with me
then I’m willing to risk everything to be with you
I think of myself as more of a lover rather than a fighter
but sometimes you have to fight for what you love
that the love That fights to keep us rooted in the earth
is the light That burns our roots and leaves us free for Space
I learned two very strong lessons from them: the grass isn’t always greener elsewhere
hoping to find something – and someone – worth fighting for
Don’t get me wrong I’d never say never ‘Cause though love can change the weather No act of God can pull me away from you
