Iburg parlayed his batter-frustrating off-speed repertoire into an 11-win season for a weak Philadelphia Phillies ball club he disliked spending his summers in the East and declined to return the next year choosing instead to play out his professional career on the West Coast Iburg spent the remainder of his working life as a watchman and equipment repairer for the San Francisco Fire Department the arrival of daughter Helen completed the family the two returned to San Francisco for the 1900 season  – which given that the independent California League was not a party to the National Agreement Iburg then spent the winter months pitching for the semipro Levy club of Los Angeles Ham was above average size for a turn-of-the-century ballplayer and his physical stamina was manifested in the 400+-inning seasons that he regularly compiled as a minor leaguer it seems likely that Iburg relied on this unique pitching style because it worked for him Iburg’s record had sunk to 6-14 when he took the ball for an August 21 game against Chicago the only whitewash of his major league career He then turned in well-pitched triumphs over New York (6-2) and Chicago (4-1) A poor outing on the last day of the 1902 season finalized Iburg’s record at 11-18 (.379) a shade below the 56-81-1 (.409) log turned in by his seventh-place Phillies club His 3.89 ERA in 236 innings pitched was also inferior to the 3.50 staff norm Iburg struck out 106 opposing hitters while walking 62; he also surrendered only a single home run in his 30 appearances Iburg posted a respectable 23-30 (.434) record with a 2.73 ERA and only 74 walks in 461 1/3 innings pitched During the offseason, Iburg was on the move again, traded to the PCL’s Oakland Commuters for infielder Larry Schlafly.64 There his work replicated that of the previous campaign: a 22-26 (.458) record with a 2.04 ERA in 428 1/3 innings pitched for another losing (103-119 Except Ham’s batting was even worse than previously; he posted a pitiful (8-for-136) .059 batting average for Oakland his remains were interred in Holy Cross Cemetery and his sisters Matilda Schemmelphennig and Henrietta Wollesen This biography was reviewed by Darren Gibson and Rory Costello and fact-checked by Tony Oliver Sources for the biographical info imparted above include the Ham Iburg file maintained at the Giamatti Research Center New York; According to Schierhölter-Otte this is "a new generation of parents who see things very differently from most of us."" Maria's department and the German FN took measures under the "Prevention of Sexualised Violence" (PSG) programme They created teaching material for trainers It integrated the subject of sexualized violence into its trainer training courses state trainer seminars and at the DOKR trainer academy The matter stayed close to her heart and Maria was often featured as spokesperson in the press and on the news. See video here At the 2017 CDIO-PJYR HagenThe German FN has not yet announced who will be succeeding Schierhölter-Otte as Head of the Youth Department "Maria Schierhölter-Otte had handed over the task as Chef d’Equipe to other representatives of our NF already over the last couple of years," FN director Sönke Lauterbach told Eurodressage "With regards to other responsibilities of the Youth department the succession planning is still in process." contemporary art and design – On March 27 – 28 I visited What’s Happenin’ newsletter sponsor NT-ware at their headquarters in Bad Iburg Germany It’s a beautiful area and it was great to visit a part of Germany I hadn’t seen before I arrived a day early and met Shalin Shah from NT-ware US for dinner The hotel where I stayed a town over from NT-ware’s offices is something of a uniFLOW campus and it wasn’t long before our empty section of the restaurant was full of NT-ware employees from all over the world (US After a great schnitzel and a couple of large local “biers,” I was off to bed to get ready for my visit the next morning a short drive away and we arrived nice and early Mary and Johannis and after a few What’s Happenin’ hat pictures an industry What’s Happenin’ briefing from me NT-ware presentations from them and then off to dinner well-lit and incredibly green from investments NT-ware’s president and CEO Karsten Huster has made in everything from natural heating and cooling to providing an electric car (a BMW of course) for the constantly visiting NT-ware employees from other parts of the world the growing software company has been in this building for 11 years They’ve already added onto the ultra secure facility and are planning yet another expansion pretty soon Huster built it after outgrowing their previous offices which I also had the pleasure of seeing during a walking tour with Lex-Jan Each floor of the building is set with a barista area as well as a cooler containing a wide variety of beverages (waters There is also a masseuse that comes in once a week an annual team building getaway for all employees (picture skiing) the foosball table in the break area (Team Andy lost) the video games…there are definitely a lot of reasons to come to the office although many are able to work from home when they want to They had a massive variety of printers set up so they could test their software on them at any given time imageRUNNER ADVANCE MFPs; it was all there One of the best parts about NT-ware is uniFLOW’s ability to work with nearly every brand Canon acquired a majority share of NT-ware making the German software company not just a partner but an integrated solution and a potentially very important part of the Canon hardware offering every Canon imageRUNNER ADVANCE device ships with at least some version of NT-ware I’m guessing over time that having their software embedded in the device when it ships from the factory will have a direct impact on their sale of licenses uniFLOW software is billed as a single platform covering print scan and device management and they’re heavily focused on their cloud solutions something they are a leader in according to my gracious hosts I spent some time doing my What’s Happenin’ presentation and updating the NT-ware people I was with on what I’m seeing from the hardware OEMs You know you’re going over your allotted time when they stop you half way through for a dessert break First time that’s happened to me and it was well worth it Their strategy to embed uniFLOW Online Express in every Canon MFP is brilliant If a button sits in front of you every day for 3 – 5 years And some will want to pay for the grayed-out functions they first saw in the free version only to turn around and eventually buy the paid version I feel like I have about 500 monthly subscriptions I’m paying for that started exactly like that many of which I don’t even remember signing up for It’s a great way to sell to customers and they’ve become conditioned to it (thank you Apple) Speaking of signing up; they had me set up a uniFLOW Online account to show me how easy it is True story; the longest part of setting up my uniFLOW Online Express account was trying to come up with a password that it would allow it won’t let you use the word “password” in any way shape or form no matter how many times you try got an email confirmation and finished from there And pushing out to a fleet is also a snap because of their cloud offerings No more going machine to machine for these guys uniFLOW can be set up on an entire fleet remotely The visit ended with a fascinating presentation by “number one,” Peter the original first employee after Karsten started the company Peter talked about unique “outside the box” projects NT-ware has undertaken to solve customer issues Quite often it’s these special projects where a customers says “could you do that?” which drives the development of uniFLOW Many of the specialty projects eventually become part of the core offering occasionally into new areas they hadn’t considered previously NT-ware has an incredible development program They seem to spend as much time trying to break their own products (so they can fix them) as they do building new ones Their R&D and Q/A is quite impressive and having a fully functioning lab of that size must be incredibly helpful to their efforts Being backed by Canon has provided a level of opportunity for NT-ware that few can match the embedded uniFLOW Online Express strategy should help hook customers deeper into Canon which in turn will furnish more uniFLOW customers Karsten is a legend in his organization and while he was unfortunately in Japan during my visit I can tell you that he has built quite a company The building they built 11 years ago says so much about NT-ware It stands out in the quiet sleepy town as this modern marvel It almost seems like you’re in the future once inside and the level of security (partially due to being a part of the Canon family) is noticeable No armed guards or anything of that nature lock-up rules at the end of the day (you don’t want to be the last one there) authentication cards and more keep the place locked up nice and tight The green factor also stood out to me during my visit Karsten is clearly a lead-by-example kind of guy but I’m told it’s because it’s electric and more environmentally friendly The car he bought for his visiting employees to use is also electric for the same reason The facility he built is heated and cooled using geothermal technology He could have opted for traditional (and less costly) heating and cooling it was an excellent visit and I learned a ton about uniFLOW online and the NT-ware culture I greatly appreciate the invitation and the hospitality and I look forward to returning see what happens next News and Resources for Competitive and Advanced Mental Calculation Our guest today is Wenzel Grüß, a 17-year-old Math prodigy from Germany. In the last 2 years he has achieved gold medals in the Junior Mental Calculation World Championship (JMCWC), Mental Calculation World Cup (MCWC) and the MSO World Championship making him one of the most brilliant and well-known mental calculators of 2020 He has also performed various mind sports on stage in front of live audiences and Russian TV How and when did you first get involved in competitive mental calculation the well-known calculator and founder of the JMCWC was promoting his book in a local bookshop Our pharmacist was in the audience and she told my mother that there would be a German championship for children in Münster I don’t think I would’ve had a chance to compete had we lived much further away so those few kilometers were very important for me and my life It was the 3rd JMCWC and there were just 2 age categories then – 10-13 years I was only 9 years and 2 months old on the date of competition so my father had to pretend that I were 1 year older so I could compete I remember the whole family constantly feared that one of the organizers would find out and suddenly appear shouting “Get out of here without any special training and despite wasting ten minutes of precious time just because I stupidly followed my female attendant to the bathroom because I was the first one in the competition who was able to calculate 3-by-3 multiplications correctly In the 2019 MSO your score was more than twice that of the silver medal When I competed the first time in 2016 in London I didn’t know what to practise before I’d heard that the MSO test would be in the style of the JMCWC In 2017 I had the idea to train with an old test and Andy Robertshaw was so kind to send me the 2014 test to help me practise Directly after the 2017 test, Dr. Mittring mentioned that he had only had time to do the “simulation” 6-7 times that year. That was the first time I ever heard the word simulation. I contacted George Lane and he sent me the 2018 simulator early in the Summer I tried the simulation then every day for one week because English is not my mother tongue and I had understood some tasks wrong in the first 2 competitions which always meant that not only individual tasks but whole categories were wrong That didn’t happen anymore and so in 2018 I was able to beat Chris Bryant something which seemed to be completely impossible for me in the years before In 2019 I spent several months in Hungary without a printer so I didn’t calculate much Mittring and Chris Bryant don’t compete anymore so there was nobody there who potentially could be dangerous for me Which category of Mental Math do you find most difficult – and why I love almost every category – maybe calendar calculation is my least favorite I know there are some easy methods to become better but I simply haven’t been in the mood yet to train these further But I have to be better when I want to be in the top 3 again in the World Cup this August Calendar calculating is a “classic” task (although I really can’t understand why) and so I have to deal with it I should be able to get 20-30 more points in this category if I took it more seriously and if I were a rich boy I would hire a Math teacher whose job it is to feed me with tasks and new ideas One of the most impressive things I’ve seen is your performance of “Köpfball” – performing complex calculations such as 87 x 133 x 64 while heading a ball – like below: What is happening in your brain when you do these calculations Thank you for telling me that you find it impressive because besides my Algerian friends and Georgi nobody else congratulated me after I performed this in Wolfsburg Someone even told me that they didn’t like it because it would make calculation look “ridiculous” I can’t understand this point of view at all – I hoped my performance would encourage some young calculators to start it too Children and young people normally love to move their body and I think “Köpfball” combines brain and body perfectly My aim is to do 10 consecutive tasks in the style of 123 x 456 x 789 while heading a ball My tactic is to head the ball as high as possible Every 7-8 headers there is a “crisis” the ball don’t jumps straight high anymore and I have to bring it “back in line” to find “peace” to continue calculating Every 30-40 headers there is a “big crisis” when I have to react very fast and precise to be able to get the ball in line again When I head the ball more than 300 times it’s a matter of good fitness too Jumping around so very often and always finding the right place for quite a hard ball falling on your head needs a lot of physical power Just speaking while heading is quite hard to do But I think the heading got a lot easier for me since I started calculating the same time Maybe we can find some time for other calculators to try out Köpfball in one of the competitions later this year I’d be curious to try it myself although I might need some practice before I can head the ball even 5 times while doing a calculation People who are involved with Mental Math realize how impressive your skills are – but how has the reaction been from people in Germany Almost nobody here is really interested in mental calculation or my skills so my motivation isn’t very high at all I think I’d do a lot better if I took calculation more seriously In school even some Math teachers didn’t know that I was a good calculator and those who knew weren’t interested at all my class teacher refused to congratulate me because in her view it was only a “ridiculous idiot contest” Although I was already able to calculate on the level of 16-year-olds my Math teacher gave me the grade 2 (good) not a 1 (very good) When I returned from Moscow in 2018 after recording the TV show my headteacher phoned – not to ask know how I did in the show but to complain that I missed 3 school days My sport teacher also didn’t want to see me doing “Köpfrechnen” My experience in German schools has been very bad and it makes me laugh when I think that some Russian TV viewers watch me and think that Germans are very interested in Math So I’m a bit jealous when I hear how well-respected calculation seems to be in countries like Japan there’s only a little respect and no support at all so I was happy when I left school last year and I’m happy I’ve left Germany this year After all these years I still have no other person who shows such interest in what I’m doing What’s your favourite memory from your career so far in mental calculation Getting 3rd place in Wolfsburg in 2018 is my personal highlight up to now along with the “Most Versatile Calculator” gold I really didn’t expect that in the hours before Winning the MSO Blitz for the first time in 2016 was great too – especially walking through London with the gold medal around my neck The “Incredible People” TV show in Moscow 2018 comes next If you don’t know that you can perform on stage what you can do at home it’s extremely thrilling to find out Mental Math is such a complex activity that you need a lot of pure madness to do it in front of an audience The performance was very risky and I don’t think I will show such a very high calculating level again on stage Video of Wenzel qualifying for this TV show Video of Wenzel performing on Russian TV What else do you like to do outside of mental calculation My father deals with music and has a very open-minded taste so I’ve listened to every kind of music since I was a baby Good music in my ears has to have heart and soul so the wide range goes from Bach and Dylan to Psychic TV and Hüskü Dü to Daft Punk and Chemical Brothers and 1000s more We have more than 1000 DVDs with movies and TV series in the house I know almost every important movie from Psycho to 2001 up to Eraserhead and Dead Man I’m a very good Jump ‘n’ Run player and love a lot of PC games I really would like to know what else I could try Often good luck and a lot of funny coincidences are necessary to find out what you are able to do Thanks Wenzel for sharing your experiences in mental calculation 2020 brings a lot of events and competitions so we look forward to seeing you in action again or have any tips for Wenzel of new ideas to try Il see in Russie in Télévision Wenzel gruss and when I measure his mental abilities to умствените калкулатори.По никакъв начин не се мотивират или стимулират.Но самият Венцел е стимул за моето дете Калоян и се надявам отново да го срещнем на младежкото първенство в Германия 2020 You must be logged in to post a comment Never before have I been so behind on work when all the summer Championships are over I have this feeling of running on depleted batteries with my inspiration run dry We're now in the middle of June and I do not know why My To-Do list with daily chores seems to grow instead of diminish After loitering in my house for a whole year thanks to a full show stop due to the corona pandemic international dressage competition sport kicked into full gear in April and has been going at terminal velocity There are so many shows every single weekend last weekend there were four CDI's and three national championships to cover I have already travelled to 5 CDI's myself in less than two months time (Sint-Truiden Compiègne and Hagen) and this is the root of the root of my current distress but it puts me desperately behind on computer work and writing articles but then the control freak in me rears its ugly head and questions why hire expensive staff if this bottleneck in my work schedule usually no longer takes more than two months I'm feeling incredibly guilty and burdened that I haven't written my Compiègne CDIO Grand Prix report (yet) I have all these beautiful photos organized in a folder I also still have a folder of Young Riders photos from the CDI Sint-Truiden that has gone unused  Show reports eat such big chunks out of my time schedule; as you all know I'm very long winded and just can't keep things brief There was so much to say about the riding in Compiègne; so many interesting horses and a few unexpected bobbles that make this sport so amazing Polish photographer Lukasz Kowalski also needs coffee to surviveOn Thursday morning 10 June it was another 4 AM wake up call to get up dressed and ready to drive to Hof Kasselmann in Hagen I avoided rush hour traffic and had a smooth drive over something I only drink when I drive to a horse show to stay awake The classes started at 8 AM and two rings were going simultaneously My goal is always to photograph as many riders as possible and with the two competition rings next to each other work can be done very efficiently at Hof Kasselmann Because there was still a corona protocol in place there was no trade fair and the space around the arena was empty The weather was absolutely brilliant - full sunshine and 25 c° - so the riders and their teams were sitting in the grass and chilling in between rides Realising there is no point for me to make detailed notes for a show report as I haven't even done Compiègne yet I decided I would do a different type of photo report with more candids Hof Kasselmann is a beautiful place to take photosThe day was very long and hot but my skin hasn't properly had a tan for two years (my last holiday was in October 2019) Travel hasn't really been possible with corona and I don't escape to Dubai like a bunch of people in Europe who like to sit on an artificial beach in an artificial city So my pale skin was soaking up the rays and I ended up burning my ankles as that was the only spot I forgot to put protect By the end of the Young Riders nations cup and prize giving ceremony it was 20h15 and I had been shooting non stop for 12 hours There was only one 20 minute lunch break at noon which I spent eating an avocado that I brought from home Knackered by the heat and the long standing I drove to my hotel in Bad Iburg I booked late this year so my usual digs were full and therefore tried out hotel number 8 or so of all the ones I have been to in the area over the past 17 years I have been covering shows in Hagen The hotel left nothing to the imagination. It had traditional German interior decorating from the 1980s and in desperate need of refurbishing the only thing that matters if the room is clean the bed good and the wifi connection strong Due to corona there was no real dining out so I decided to order take away from the local kebab shop (which came recommended by the hotel) It was my second take away of the corona pandemic and twice it has been pizza The one I got in Germany was tasty but so greasy that the cardboard box it came in was soaked through Of course after one bite I already regretted ordering it but the lure of grease is greater than sensible thinking about one's health when you are tired  I ended up working until little past midnight and was happy that on Friday morning I could sleep a bit longer as the pony tests only started round noon Ophelia ShalomI love the sound of a demolition jack hammer in the morning at 7 AM when you feel exhausted. The noise from the construction site next door to the hotel was so overwhelming that I was forced to get up and work some more Better prepared for the hot sunny weather on Friday I noticed it was actually cloudier than the day before and there was a mild breeze. It's not easy to dress for horse shows when you have to carry all your stuff around alongside a 10 kilo camera and lens I'm notorious for making the wrong fashion choices my worst being at the Rio Olympics where I was ready for some tropical temperatures and it ended up raining The ponies were fabulous and there was super riding The only thing that really made me wonder is why at such a big international a youth CDIO and for several nations a team selection trial there was no proper tack check after each ride Only a few CDIO riders were checked here and there I asked around and was told the FEI has decided on a new protocol: because of the EHV-1 risk horses can no longer be touched out of fear for EHV-1cross contamination (stewards wear new gloves for each horse?) At the four previous CDI's I did the past 1.5 months there was a full and proper tack check happening with spurs even being measured on the spot and there was also an EHV-1 protocol out there father of US Young Rider Melanie DoughtyThe class finished again at 20h00 and immediately after the prize giving I bolted to my car to drive back home but I ended up working on the computer until 3 AM with another 8 AM wake-up call forecast as my local farmer hayed my fields and he texted me that we would be loading 165 bales of hay on a trailer at 8h15 to bring them to the stable for storage We took photos of all riders competing at the 2021 CDIO-PJYR Hagen. German pork coated in breadcrumbs.I went on two city trips one to Osnabrück and one to Hamburg and also visited the Externstein with the school All of these trips were incredible experiences packed with interesting sightseeing and culture During the two weeks I made great friends with some of the natives I had great fun with my exchange partner and his friends and made some unforgettable memories and experiences I now feel very confident facing the Leaving Cert German Exam next year but this trip went beyond studying a language for an exam It made me realise that the most important thing is to have confidence speaking a foreign language and how good it feels to communicate in a second language Germany is a beautiful country with a beautiful language and I know that this trip was just the beginning of many more to come " + $(".testo_articolo").html().replace(//g please subscribe and support local journalism Subscribing will allow you access to all of our premium content and archived articles To continue reading this article for FREE,please kindly register and/or log in Registration is absolutely 100% FREE and will help us personalise your experience on our sites You can also sign up to our carefully curated newsletter(s) to keep up to date with your latest local news Lauren Lonergan will take part in the Primary games during the Munster senior hurling championship match between Tipperary and Clare 5 March at the Halla Na Féile in Cashel In Pictures: Meet the cast of hit play 'The Ferryman' including a 'very well behaved baby' Night of nostalgia at Tipperary Museum with 125 year Clonmel High School reunion Subscribe or register today to discover more from DonegalLive.ie Donegal Post and Inish Times here for instant access to Donegal's premier news titles Keep up with the latest news from Donegal with our daily newsletter featuring the most important stories of the day delivered to your inbox every evening at 5pm This publication supports the work of the Press Council of Ireland and Office of the Press Ombudsman and our staff operate within the Code of Practice of the Press Council Lo-call 1800 208 080 or email: info@presscouncil.ie A Sungold filly and Floriscount colt became the winners of the Foal Selection Show at Hof Kasselmann in Hagen Eight fillies and ten colts qualified for the 2011 German Foal Championships held in Lienen The champion filly was a Sungold x Davignon offspring This talented young mare scored 81,5 points and left a Fidertanz x Sandro Hit filly behind her She is bred by Frank Moormann and scored 79,5 points The champion colt was a chestnut Floriscount x Sunny Boy offspring bred by Ludger Emke from Cloppenburg His colt scored 84 points and referred Johannes Westendarp's Fürstenball x Wolkentanz II colt to a second place with 81,5 points Kerstin Klieber acquired the champion colt on the spot Another Furstenball offspring placed third: He is bred by Alfons Brünen out of a Sandro Hit dam Photo © Kiki Beelitz Fillies -
