- Process for simultaneous coating of electrode sides ensure Cellforce Group’s high quality and speed for subsequent production
2022 — Heading for the future at high speed: The Cellforce Group
a joint venture of sports car manufacturer Porsche and battery specialist CUSTOMCELLS
has successfully built up the mass production process for coating its electrodes over the past twelve months — relying on the knowledge
and direct proximity to machinery and plant manufacturer Dürr
the Cellforce Group and Dürr jointly commissioned a high-tech coating facility for high-performance battery cells in Bietigheim-Bissingen
the Cellforce Group (CFG) will soon be using a special process from Dürr that enables both sides of the electrode to be coated simultaneously
the coating process can be accelerated and the precision and quality significantly increased when compared to the standard procedure
the anode and cathode materials are not applied simultaneously but rather one after the other on both sides of a thin metal foil
In order to successfully commission and establish the process
the Cellforce Group has been on site at Dürr in Bietigheim-Bissingen for several months and has implemented production on a factory line
could act quickly and make possible adjustments directly
That's why we chose this Cellforce proprietary approach
which has greatly increased the speed of development of our coating process and allows us to build up shared knowledge at an early stage," says Markus Woland
Director Operations at the Cellforce Group
Processes ready for a new Cellforce Group site
The technology for the double-sided electrode coating was developed by Dürr's US subsidiary Megtec
"We have a special technology that enables the Cellforce Group to manufacture top-quality high-performance cells — and to do so with a highly efficient and sustainable production process
By working directly with the Cellforce Group
we can optimally align the technology with their needs and thus support them in the future development and production of high-performance cells with high energy density," says Dr
"Strong partnerships are needed for the development and production of future high-performance battery cells
The direct cooperation between the Cellforce Group and Dürr AG is a good example of how win-win situations can be created for all parties involved
This is a role model and thus sets standards for battery cell production in Germany," says Michael Steiner
Member of the Board of Management for Research and Development at Porsche AG
The Cellforce Group is currently building a state-of-the-art development and production site for battery cells in the Reutlingen-Kirchentellinsfurt industrial park
the production processes set up at Dürr can be taken over and continued directly
To ensure sustainable operation of the coating line
Dürr is also supplying equipment for exhaust air purification and the recovery of more than 99 percent of the solvents used
Cellforce Group GmbH (CFG) plans to develop and produce high-performance lithium-ion pouch cells for special automotive applications from 2024
Cellforce is a joint venture in which Porsche AG holds a 72.7 percent stake
with the remaining shares held by CUSTOMCELLS Holding GmbH
The managing directors are Markus Gräf as Chief Operating Officer (COO) and Wolfgang Hüsken as Chief Financial Officer (CFO)
The workforce is expected to grow to up to 100 people by 2025

Ks — Germany and Kansas City are separated by 4,788 miles
but one program between two schools in Germany and Kansas City is helping bridge that gap together
Fifty-three band students from Germany are visiting Kansas City this week as part of an exchange program with Shawnee Mission South High School
students have traveled to each other’s schools to perform and learn about their counterparts
Germany) and Overland Park became sister cities
That grew out of the music exchange,” said band director
but they come to Kansas City and I asked them why
the students have been touring across the metro this week experiencing Kansas City sports
the German and American students will be working together to put on a concert for the public
“I don’t think you can really quantify the value of something like this,” said Shawnee Mission South senior
“It gives you all this experience and broadens your world view in a way that will impact you for the rest of your life.”
Despite the language and cultural barriers
the students say music has been an amazing avenue to connect
“If we play something and they know the song
that’s great I think,” said German exchange student
“Especially when you play the same instrument
Kachler is back in the program for the second time since visiting the city four years ago
“Some of us actually are staying with the same host family we stayed four years ago so it’s great to see the transformation and the change that happens over four years,” said Kachler
“I’m still in contact with some of the people that I met four years ago here.”
the German students will be head to Kansas City International airport and fly back home
but 53 American students from Shawnee Mission South will also get their chance at a trip of a lifetime to head to Germany and see what life is like there
“The difference between a German teenager and an American teenager is like four percent
but the four percent is what makes for great conversation,” said Adams

Dürr's Application Technology division has upgraded the Test Center Paint in Bietigheim-Bissingen (Germany)
The modification has created line tracking simulation conditions that are unique in the world
Thanks to the total investment of around two million euros
the test center can meet current customer requirements all relating to the latest generation of robots
which can be used to simulate line tracking – this is not possible anywhere other than in Bietigheim-Bissingen
The continuous transport of car bodies through the paint booth makes robot programming more complex
the car body is situated on a lifting table to recreate in the room the position it will later have in production
The → EcoRail X behaves like the conveyor technology on which the car body moves in the real production environment
the teacher can stop the robot's movement as often as necessary to adapt the programming
The paint application can also be repeated
These tests can save valuable time during commissioning
Line tracking simulation is not the only new feature implemented as part of the modification. Another area of the test center now offers all three available systems of the → EcoSupply P special paint supply
They can be used for internal and external training
Another special feature of the Test Center Paint: One of the 13 different types of application that can be tested here is overspray-free painting
This new technology enables specific areas of the car body to be painted with a contrasting color – without masking certain parts of the vehicle and without the need for a separate paint cycle
This saves time and resources during the process
New features in the Test Center Paint include the EcoSupply P paint supply systems
normal operation continued in the remaining test center
The first customer tests have now been carried out successfully in the modified paint booth
there are seven other test centers in Bietigheim-Bissingen
customer-specific concepts and solutions are tested
also offers skills development and training measures connected with the application of paint and viscous materials
It also offers the latest generation of robots for training purposes

a family-run firm based in Bietigheim-Bissingen
includes 7.5 hectares of glass and foil houses and about 25 hectares of outdoor growing areas
Through optimum growing conditions and preventive use of beneficial insects
the nursery avoids chemical pesticides as far as possible
the company has been in possession of an AS 1200 rechargeable spray blower from Birchmeier
it ensures excellent penetration and wetting of leaves
thus making the solution applied much more effective."
the Kiemle nursery in Bietigheim-Bissingen
The aim is to keep plants healthy and use as few pesticides as possible
the firm chooses resistant and suitable varieties
fertilizes plants according to requirements
Its integrated pest control measures center on the use of beneficial insects against pests
Chemical agents are used only when pests become too overwhelming
and all other viable options for defense and control have been exhausted
These are specifically tailored to the pest and the situation at hand
chemicals are applied only in a selective manner
the family firm purchased the rechargeable REC 15 backpack sprayer together with the rechargeable AS 1200 spray blower from Birchmeier
the member of staff responsible for pest control
explained how his work has changed as a result of the new spraying systems
The nursery uses the spray blower in the tunnel to treat young vegetables
and herbs and in the high greenhouse to treat cucumbers and tomatoes
Reinhold said: "The application rate is much lower than it was with the tractor sprayer and gun that were used in the past
The hand-held device can also be deployed more quickly."
The skilled gardener uses the orange nozzle in the blower as standard for a medium discharge up to a maximum of 1.12 l/min
vary the speed of the air stream to ensure efficient application
He treats the cucumbers and tomatoes in the high greenhouse at a low air level – level 2 – and the young plants
He particularly appreciates the even spray pattern and the improved wetting of the plants
there was a risk of injuring the plants with the powerful jet
the blower's air stream lifts the leaves and distributes the solution evenly
and the solution gets to exactly where it's needed."
The individual experiences of users from other production companies and other branches of the horticultural industry can be found in the catalog on the Birchmeier website

Wiesbauer GmbH & Co has erected a tower crane using its new Terex AC 700 all-terrain crane
Crane rental company Wiesbauer used its new Terex AC 700 all terrain crane to erect a tower crane at a work site in Kornwestheim
The Bietigheim-Bissingen-based crane service provider carried out the project on behalf of the Mörfelden-Walldorf branch office of construction company Trinac
which is building a new office building for the Wüstenrot bank in Kornwestheim
The decision to use this crane was not only based on the AC 700 crane’s technical characteristics but also on logistical considerations
who runs the company with his brother Jochen
“We had the crane stationed at our headquarters in Bietigheim-Bissingen precisely at the right time
and Bietigheim-Bissingen is only an hour away from the work site in Kornwestheim,”
This meant that travelling to the site with the AC 700 crane was relatively easy
requiring only the appropriate travel permit and what in Germany is referred to as a ‘BF-3 third-generation escort vehicle’
The unit was accompanied by an assist crane and four trucks
Setting up the AC 700 at the work site by the seven-person Wiesbauer team
this unit was clearly designed with ease of assembly in mind
which is crucial to our ability to deliver when it comes to short assembly and disassembly times
this ease of assembly also plays an important role in the outstanding cost effectiveness of the model
To reach the lifting height of up to 70 metres required to erect the tower crane
the Wiesbauer assembly technicians configured the Terex AC 700 crane with an LF main boom extension measuring 26.40 m
Components included relatively lightweight and compact mast sections as well as more unwieldy elements such as the slewing unit
“When lifting loads with these types of dimensions
it’s not enough to just rely on the crane operator’s expert touch
You also need a crane with extraordinary precision.”
The Keder Roof XL from Layher ensures more efficiency on construction sites
Layher’s new Keder Roof XL has been put to work by scaffolding company IBEK Gerüstbau at roadworks on the Mühlwiesen Bridge at Bietigheim-Bissingen in Germany
The heatable site protection structure is designed for use in wintry temperatures
Its aluminium components with integrated keder sections make it quick to assemble
while its high flexibility means it can adapt to curves in the road
The city of Bietigheim-Bissingen has been upgrading the Mühlwiesen bridge part of the four-lane B27
The heavily used bridge was in a poor state of repair and required sandblasting
the persistently cold and wet weather made it impossible to do sealing work on the bridge
The solution was to create a site protection structure
IBEK assembled the temporary enclosures using Layher’s new Keder Roof XL
split into two building sections each with a length of 100 m
The Keder Roof XL system can traverse widths of up to 40 m while the roof can withstand snow loads of up to 100 kg/m2

FOCUSSING on making a journey on a public bus “a real experience”
high-end German bus operator Spillmann has taken ownership of five custom-spec Citaros with “eye-catching” interiors
Though arguably the type of design treatment traditionally reserved for display purposes only at bus shows
the four Citaro hybrids and one Citaro G – all with Sideguard Assist technology – are making local Bietigheim-Bissingen / Mannheim and beyond passenger journeys even more memorable
Spillmann has put a lot of effort into making such bespoke ‘bus experiences’ and these five new Mercedes-Benz buses have been individually designed and customised for just that
The Mannheim-based bus plant’s managing director of Omnibusverkehr Spillmann GmbH
took delivery of four Mercedes-Benz Citaro hybrids and the one Citaro articulated bus from Rüdiger Kappel
The Spillmann MBs offer efficient hybrid components and the Sideguard Assist safety system
The radar-based Sideguard Assist supports the bus driver when making critical right turns; it detects both stationary and mobile obstacles
USB charging sockets and comprehensive infotainment
but special interiors with every vehicle designed according to a theme
which has a floor made of ship planks and printed side walls giving passengers a view of the open sea or sandy beaches
In the ‘Astronomy’ bus – and probably the coolest one
we say – the floor (deceptively 3D-ish from the right angle) is printed like the surface of the moon and the side walls show a view from the moon to the earth and into the universe
The ‘Bietigheim’ vehicle (the local area) visualises the highlights of the Bietigheim-Bissingen region on the side walls
Spillmann gave the side walls a colourful 1960s design and it additionally features untreated steel handrails with a vintage character
In the Citaro articulated bus the seat colours create four different zones
This ‘mobility’ bus features an asphalt flooring design including tyre tracks and central reservation
the bus company started to make local public transport more attractive with cool and unique vehicles
Spillmann’s company philosophy is to stand out from other run-of-the-mill public buses by creating buses offering a special experience
This means virtually every Spillmann public service bus has special design highlights: from handrails in a chrome or vintage look to eye-catching printed floors and side walls or specially upholstered seats
