Branch is comprised of five layers The soft wool and poly blend topper is surrounded by a layer of breathable Just beneath the topper is a layer of graphite-infused latex which creates a natural cooling effect and another layer of tree-derived latex for stability Below these layers is where the micro-coils sit to prevent motion transfer and provide greater airflow and just beneath the micro-coil layer are the foundational coils which provide even support throughout the mattress If eco-friendly products are important to you you'll appreciate that the materials are naturally derived and ethically sourced But note that the mattress is still made with latex Hand-sewn tufts allow the top layer of the mattress to be held together without any glue but I found that they did create hard spots on the surface of the mattress This could be an annoyance if you were leaning on your elbows while reading in bed and accidentally leaned on one I didn't experience any issues while sleeping on my stomach or side so there's no unrolling or off-gassing involved here Boll & Branch provides a white glove delivery service complete with the offer to take your old mattress off your hands Our mattress took several weeks to arrive because each mattress is made to order and hand-crafted in the US While that wait time isn't necessarily convenient especially if you're in a hurry to replace an old mattress The quality of this mattress shows both in its construction and its level of comfort I tested the Boll & Branch mattress with my partner and can confidently say that this is a mattress even Goldilocks would approve If you're looking for a medium-firm mattress I would highly recommend the Boll & Branch It provides support without feeling too hard and I could sleep comfortably through the night without any aches or pains in the morning its level of firmness makes it suitable for all sleeping positions Motion isolation is especially important for share their bed with a partner or a pet since it ensures that any movement will be absorbed into the mattress I'm a light sleeper who frequently wakes up multiple times during the night I woke up far less often than usual — even with our new kitten bouncing around on the bed and my partner rolling over in the night I definitely attribute this to the combination of micro coils and latex that help minimize motion transfer quality heat dissipation is a must in any mattress Good heat dissipation keeps you cool throughout the night by wicking away heat as you sleep The graphite-infused layer of latex also seemed to do its job — neither my partner nor I felt like we were overheating during the night which makes it great for those who tend to sleep hot Boll & Branch mattresses come with a 10-year limited warranty if a production defect appears after normal use Boll & Branch will repair or replace your mattress for no cost up to 10 years after the mattress purchase Boll & Branch also has a 100-night sleep trial for their mattresses If you're not happy with your mattress after sleeping on it for at least 30 nights you can send it back at no cost within 100 days of purchase While I thought the long wait between ordering my mattress and receiving it was worth it it could be a problem for people who need to replace an old mattress quickly but still notable if comfort is your biggest concern in a mattress This is a solid hybrid pick for under $500 the Boll & Branch mattress is definitely an investment it's a worthwhile one considering your mattress has a huge impact on how you sleep at night The mattress doesn't skimp on its attention to detail with natural materials you can feel good about sleeping on and handcrafted construction that ensures durability Additional features like the white-glove delivery service also make the Boll & Branch mattress worth the price If you're still unsure whether you'll like this mattress it comes with a 100-night trial so you can make sure it will meet your needs.  Every product is independently selected by (obsessive) editors Things you buy through our links may earn us a commission With so many bedding start-ups promising premium-quality sheets for are available The first things you want to think about are what your sheets are made of and, if applicable, how they’re woven. The most popular sheets fall into a few major categories of material, with cotton being the most common. Within cotton, you’ll see percale and sateen sheets terms that refer to the weave of the cotton Then there’s linen (which is made of flax) The material you choose will dictate whether the bedding is cooling Cotton sateen: Sateen’s three-over-one weave is looser resulting in a denser feel that drapes well and has a silky sheen It’s heavier than percale and will sleep slightly warmer Linen: Linen is made from the flax plant and has a rougher texture than cotton which makes linen another great option for sweaty sleepers Jersey: Another popular cotton bedding type is jersey which you may associate with college dorms because of its accessible price point and the way it feels like your favorite worn-in T-shirt (and is just as low-maintenance) often from cotton or cotton blended with synthetic fibers Alternative fibers: A whole crop of sheets is made from alternative fibers — some of which are naturally derived — including rayon which goes by the brand name Tencel; and microfiber making them yet another option for warmer sleepers and the two terms are used interchangeably depending on the manufacturer Silk: This is the most expensive bedding out there and the most finicky to maintain silk is lustrous in feel and luxurious to behold Once you’ve chosen the type of bedding you like you’ll want to consider the look of your sheets You can go for classic hotel whites with minimal trim luxury sheets with piping or the option to monogram or a brand that offers a rainbow of colors Material: Oeko-Tex certified organic long-staple cotton percale These percale sheets from Quince have recently risen to the top of my list. I had already anointed them the best cooling sheets for sweaty sleepers for how crisp but I think they’re excellent as everyday sheets for average sleepers as well They’re made with long-staple organic cotton in a 270-thread count that feels much nicer and more expensive than its $100 price tag What makes them ideal for those who sleep hot makes them just as great for any type of sleeper thanks to the plain weave of percale that gives it a very crispy handfeel And as I wrote in my guide to cooling sheets the sheets are almost paperlike in how airy they are They have a nice matte finish that’s cool to the touch but also smooth They’re also very durable and wash very nicely Quince’s percale sheets are just a really solid competitively priced set of sheets that I think will work for most sleepers they come in 13 subdued colors and patterns If you’re ready to dive in to a truly crispy set of percale which manufactures all of its bedding in the United States Oeko-Tex-certified long-staple cotton and have a classic hemstitch detail and the first thing I noticed was just how nice they were — lightweight classic base that can pair with any bedding.” 500 thread count | Style: Satin stitch flange which has a thread count of 1,000 and goes for $824 for a queen fitted sheet long-staple Oeko-Tex Egyptian cotton | Style: 11 colors You can still find quality Egyptian cotton sheets that are more affordable like this queen set from Parachute that costs about the same as a single piece (the fitted sheet) from Matouk’s Luca Satin Stitch line Strategist senior editor Simone Kitchens recently started using them “These sheets are ultrasmooth with a washed quality that manages to feel crisp and clean even up until laundry day,” she says While her longtime favorite sheets have been Morrow’s matte sateen (see below) she wanted to try something a little more “cooling,” and these were just that: “I tend to run a little hot at night and often kick a leg out to cool down but haven’t needed to with this set.” Material: Organic cotton percale | Style: 13 colors so if you’re looking for something with a more lived-in feel that still has the weave’s signature airiness consider Coyuchi’s Crinkled Percale sheet set Kitchens recently tried them out and says they’re the most lightweight sheets she’s tested thus far “They’re lighter and thinner feeling than the Quince and Parachute with the softness of the Morrow Matte Sateen sheets [Editor’s note: See below],” she says They’re made with organic cotton using a proprietary spinning and weaving process and finished with a plant-based softener that produces a rumpled effect with the “slightest ‘nub’ texture that’s still so smooth,” according to Kitchens “It feels like a nice progression from linen It’s so soft but still has an interesting aesthetic and an organic-feeling texture.” And Egyptian long-staple cotton | Style: Embroidered borders in three colors its percale sheets have a thread count between 200 and 240 like this 480-thread-count Brooklinen set made of long-staple cotton have a silkier (and more substantial) feel than percale and they’re among the softest sheets I have and only get better with time They’re definitely thicker and therefore sleep a little “warmer” than percale sheets but if you’re looking for that silky (but still cottony) drape I would say these traditional sateen sheets are better for cooler weather For those looking for a less shiny sateen option see below for my review of Morrow’s matte sateen sheets which have a similar smoothness but are slightly lighter in feel and weight all three of which Swerdloff personally owns Here’s another sateen option with equally high endorsements — except these are made with 100 percent Supima cotton, a premium, USA-grown, extra-long staple fiber. Annie Meyers-Shyer, actress and daughter of filmmaker Nancy Meyers, recently told us about these sateen sheets from Lands’ End which her family has used since 2018 upon encountering them at a vacation home in the Hamptons Meyers-Shyer says they are “not really shiny They wash so well.” And even though the brand calls them no-iron she still likes to iron them: “They’re crisp and they’re soft That would be the best way to describe them.” While they’re slightly more expensive than the Brooklinen sheets, they are always going on sale, according to Meyers-Shyer, which makes them a great option for someone who wants something luxurious — before she checked the label, she thought they were Italian made — without the hefty price tag. Other fans include Rachel Antonoff who says they are “just as soft and lovely” as Frette sheets and New York Magazine features editor Katy Schneider Material: Egyptian cotton sateen | Style: Seven colors  who described them as “very lightweight and breathable,” adding that because they’re made from durable Egyptian cotton they’re an option “that should hold up to everyday use for several years.” organic Oeko-Tex cotton | Style: Six colors I love a crisp percale sheet, but sometimes you want something a little cozier. I was intrigued by the idea of these matte sateen sheets by Morrow, one of our favorite brands for tonal bedding they immediately became my favorite sheets They’re buttery like regular sateen but not shiny — instead They feel a little heftier than percale while still feeling lightweight and breathable I’ve been using the sheets for two years now and they’re always the first set I reach for no matter the season They also feel just as durable as they did on day one but they’re available in five other muted colors that are great for mixing and matching (There are more color options for the twin size.) Kitchens seconds that “these are the world’s softest sheets.” She’s also had them for about a year and agrees that they get softer over time — and this new vintage-washed set from Boll & Branch gives them a run for their money Made from long-staple organic-cotton sateen the sheets go through a small-batch dye-and-wash process and come out feeling incredibly soft and lived-in they actually feel a little closer to percale to me They have a slight crispness that’s very appealing and really do remind me of a favorite worn-in button-down partly due to the hem-stitching detail on the pillowcases and the flat sheet The hem is shorter than on other standard sheet sets which I would say are buttery soft and a little slinkier which I’ve had for two years.) They sleep slightly cooler If you generally prefer the smoothness of percale sheets then I would recommend the Boll & Branch sheets Material: European flax | Style: 36 colors Linen sheets, made from the natural fiber of the flax plant, are generally more expensive than cotton because of their more involved manufacturing process and durability. They’re said to get better and softer over time, too, making them a nice long-term investment. Quince’s European linen set is my best overall pick for how soft and lived-in it is right out of the box Strategist writer Dominique Pariso is also a fan calling them “superlight with a slightly textured weave,” like a “worn-in gauzy linen button-down you’d throw on in the height of July heat.” Pariso also loves that they keep her cool during the winter when the heat is cranked up saying it makes for a bit of an “unexpected” look in the bedroom Pottery Barn’s linen sheets are made with Belgian flax which is considered to be the best raw material for the fabric medium-weight hand-feel to them and are some of the nicest and I find them to be a good option all year long They’re heftier than the Quince and Brooklinen sheets above both of which I consider to be good starter linen and come in an impressive range of 37 gorgeous colors making them a solid choice if you’re serious about making the switch to linen bedding Material: Bamboo viscose | Style: Six colors As mentioned in the materials section, sheets made from naturally derived fibers like bamboo are a good choice for warm sleepers. “I recently used bamboo linens for a large project, and I will definitely be using them more going forward,” says Anishka Clarke, co-owner of Ishka Designs “Bamboo is one of the strongest and hardest natural materials yet when you feel the fibers on these sheets baby soft on your skin.” And since they’re made of this strong bamboo the sheets are “extremely durable — they generally last about two times longer than cotton sheets but overall quality and durability make the fabric a hands-down winner.” Material: Bamboo lyocell sateen | Style: Nine colors Strategist junior writer Brenley Goertzen also loves these sheets saying that they feel even better than her Brooklinen sateen set “They’re also cooler and smoother than the Brooklinen and we found that these are perfect for both of us.” As for how they compare to sateen Goertzen says that they feel much closer to cotton sateen than other bamboo sheets she’s tried: “They’re super-soft like cotton Material: Bamboo viscose / Style: 13 colors former Strategist writer Latifah Miles recommends this set from Cozy Earth made from premium bamboo viscose “They are easily my favorite and feel like creme brûlée — minus the sugar crust,” says Miles “They have a similar feel to the Ettitude but have held up far better in the wash maintaining that silky smooth — and shiny — texture that I love.” including former Strategist senior editor Chelsea Peng which is why she prefers these sheets from Sijo which are made from eucalyptus-derived Tencel lyocel “They’re so smooth and slippery,” she says noting that she can barely feel the difference in texture between her silk pillowcase and these sheets “I do cricket legs —when you’re under the covers and rub your legs together because you’re comfy — every time I get in because there’s zero snagging and they don’t feel sticky unlike some other sheets I’ve tried.” And as a hot sleeper “I hate sleeping under AC even in the summer and these feel like they somehow create an air pocket around you so you don’t overheat,” she explains and that air pocket quality remains.” Peng adds that they wash really well even though I feel like the machines in my building are especially violent.” After receiving them three years ago as a sample but these are the only ones with cricket legs for me.” typically made from finely woven strands of polyester I experienced this silky-soft feeling at an Airbnb in Vermont recently where all the beds were made up with these brushed-microfiber sheets from CGK Linens I was so taken by how nice it felt to slip into bed that I immediately searched for a tag I subsequently called in a set to test and put it in the guest room Family members who were staying with us for a few days also felt compelled to ask me about the sheets While there might be a little bit of snobbery against polyester sheets Material: Oeko-Tex-certified cotton | Style: 12 colors Jersey sheets often get a bad rap for their association with college dorms but they can be an excellent choice for folks looking for a lived-in I love this set from the Company Store for how cozy They have a good heft to them as well as a bit of stretch — but not too much — making them feel closer to regular cotton sheets than the cheap jersey sheets I had in college They’re just really nice and a great introduction option if you’re looking for something cozier and laid-back for the winter without committing to something too thick like flannel Material: Organic brushed cotton | Style: Seven colors Coyuchi’s “cloud-brushed” set is very thick and cozy but also surprisingly breathable I slept comfortably through the night in the sheets — paired with my loftiest down comforter — without feeling hot or clammy at all the sheets have that slightly fuzzy texture associated with flannel and are soft and velvety to the touch They’ve become my new go-tos for the winter has a standard momme of 19 and costs a fraction of the price.) Scott Tannen, founder and CEO of Boll & Branch and I were remeniscing about our favorite cards we collected in our youth there are a trove of life lessons we can also glean from the sport — many of which remind me about the story of Boll & Branch which embody resilience was arguably the face of the baseball in the 1990s and while The Kid belted over 600 homeruns in his illustrious career Someone without Griffey’s notoriety and perhaps who most fans have never heard of is a man who once struck out 3 times in an entire season “I never had trouble seeing the ball,” said Joe Sewell who often claimed he could see the spiraling seams on a baseball Sewell heard the umpire say “Strike three” just 114 times or in just .014 percent of his total times at the plate during the 1920s and 30s While Boll & Branch is widely known for their luxurious organic cotton bedsheets — Scott and his wife and co-founder kept their eye on the ball from the beginning We had sheets in two colors and blankets in three colors We wanted to be really good at one thing in particular,” explained Scott there were several pivotal moments that led Scott and Missy to disrupt this legacy category As the couple was transitioning to a king size bed Missy looked high and low for the right sheets This problem led Scott on an internet search journey that yielded the same results and eventually Missy had to step in because of her eye for design “If I did this by myself we would have had a great business model and ugly sheets,” Scott admitted the first chapter of his life may have prepared him for this opportunity Growing up his father embodied the image of the classic corporate professional donning a suit and carrying a briefcase each day His mother transitioned from being a homemaker to becoming a real estate agent “It was only until I began my entrepreneurial journey that I realized it wasn’t my dad who was the entrepreneur She opened up her own office and became one of the most productive everyone was telling me how great I was who later went on to become the CEO of Topps Scott shared stories about the guidance from Mike before and after high profile meetings “Mike would challenge me and he would help me stay grounded He would prepare for big meetings and after when everyone would tell how great I did — he would constructively point out things I could have improved.” he also acknowledged that he made a lot of mistakes in his career At his last video game company he realized that the commercial success covered up some of the gaps in the organization and he learned his lesson the hard way “When the iPhone came out and I knew the gaming industry was about to change I had to question if we were good enough as a company and if I was good enough as a leader to go head to head against Electronic Arts I decided to sell the company because I didn’t think we could win.” Backing down from a challenge wasn’t natural to Scott his mom was diagnosed with a terminal illness shortly thereafter and he was able to spend more time with her in those coming months — which I think was a blessing in disguise This inflection point made him question everything The real moment Boll & Branch was born wasn’t when he was searching the internet for linens It was this moment when he decided making an impact in his next role was paramount It took nearly two years to go to market from the inception of Boll & Branch because Scott and Missy were untangling the legacy manufacturing practices of the linen industry “I remember learning that the life expectancy of a conventional cotton farmer in India at the time was 36 — and I was around the same age at that time It’s not hard to see things if you want to find the answers.” Scott learned that these farmers who were living below the poverty line were buying seeds along with toxic chemicals to grow cotton out of desperation — not always understanding or thinking about the effects on themselves “Some farmers without an education couldn’t even read the warning labels on these chemicals So they’re strapping them to their backs and spraying them out in the fields an organic cotton coalition supporting Fairtrade cotton “They were started by a Dutch NGO and they were doing their own seed harvesting and helping communities convert over to being organic They were determined to help communities improve their lifestyles and the average life exptectancy.” Scott had heard enough — but he also read that there was no demand for the cotton so he sent a cold email with a compelling proposition “I told them while I didn’t know anything about bed sheets — I was going to make some and I was going to use their cotton.” Scott and Missy detangled the rest of the supply chain They co-invested with family owned operations and helped them verticalize their own supply chain to become sustainable and profitable there were less markups from middle men which provided better margins for the company and better savings for the customer The success of the company didn’t come without hard decisions that had to be made Instead of raising venture capital and making decisions based on what investors wanted they decided to self-fund the company in the beginning “We wanted to build the right kind of company Neither of us would say we’re the smartest people in the room — but nobody would outhustle us We never questioned whether or not this would work.” came at the expense of Howard Stern on Sirius XM as they had only dabbled in advertising at that point but were ready to make a splash He took out the last $2 million in debt because that was the minimum investment required to advertise with his favorite radio host “I strongly believed Howard could sell this stuff because people trust him We're a luxury brand in the organic space We sent him and his wife sheets and they loved them.” The brand exploded after advertising on Stern and it was difficult to keep up with demand 800 number actually rang Scott’s cell phone But one of the greatest lessons he learned from his father was being present Scott and Missy figured out a way to integrate their children into the business and they took them on trips to visit manufacturers overseas I expect for my employees to do the same and they don't have to ask permission you go and everybody else can pick up around you Just be honest about what you've got and don't make the sacrifices that you'll regret and that will make you feel sad.” and we learn from every situation with the goal of getting better Hall of Famer Joe Sewell was often was solicited about how he Farmers use chemical defoliating agents in field plantings to induce cotton leaves to fall off early and accelerate cotton boll opening (Li et al., 2022) although cotton bolls are a typical type of capsule the mechanism by which they crack remains unclear the AG subfamily genes of upland cotton were first identified; then family analysis was performed using bioinformatics methods The tissue-specific expression patterns of Gossypium hirsutum AG subfamily genes (GhAGs) were analyzed on the basis of transcriptome data from the upland cotton variety TM-1 and the tissue of Zhongmian113 was used as a template to analyze the expression patterns of GhAGs using qRT−PCR To clarify the role of GhSHP1/AGL1 in upland cotton we used virus-induced gene silencing (VIGS) technology to reduce GhSHP1 transcript levels Phenotypic changes paraffin sections of cotton boll shells at different developmental stages GhRPL and GhNST1 expression were observed and analyzed in the GhSHP1-silenced plants and controls These findings increase our understanding of GhSHP1 and provide a theoretical basis for future research on the cracking mechanism of cotton bolls and for the cultivation of early-maturing and high-quality cotton varieties The sequences of the 2000-bp regions located upstream of the GhAG genes were obtained from CottonFGD (https://cottonfgd.net/) and utilized to identify cis-regulatory elements associated with GhAG genes through the PlantCARE program (http://bioinformatics.psb.ugent.be/webtools/plantcare/html/) Excel software was employed to visualize the results derived from these predictions The expression patterns of AG subfamily genes in upland cotton were analyzed using RNA-seq data obtained from 13 distinct tissues of the upland cotton variety TM-1 (http://cotton.zju.edu.cn/) Gene expression levels were quantified based on fragments per kilobase of transcript per million mapped fragments (FPKM) values Heatmaps depicting the expression patterns of GhAG subfamily genes were generated utilizing TBtools software Leaf rot soil and vermiculite were mixed 1:1 in a seedling cup and soaked until the surface was slightly wet Intact seeds were selected and planted 1.5 cm below the soil The artificial climate incubators were established with fixed conditions (16 h light/8 h darkness and 70% humidity) for growing the seedlings cotton shells and cotton fibers were sampled in the 1st 4th to 5th and 11th to 17th weeks of cotton growth Early opening bolls (Yuzhishi84-1) and late opening bolls (Ganmain12) varieties were planted and cotton boll shell tissues from different development stages were collected The samples were quickly frozen in liquid nitrogen and stored at -80°C for future use GhSHP1 silencing was achieved with VIGS technology using a CLCrV carrier The 463-bp target fragment of GhSHP1 was obtained using PCR amplification and integrated into the CLCrV vector The recombinant plasmid was subsequently introduced into Agrobacterium tumefaciens strain GV3101 the empty vector and CLCrV: GhSHP1 were mixed with the auxiliary bacteria at a ratio of 1:1 the mixed bacterial mixture was injected into the dorsal surface of the cotyledons of 7-day-old plants to produce GhSHP1-silenced cotton plants (CLCrV: GhSHP1) along with negative control (empty vector) and positive control (CLCrV: ChlI) plants The plants were subjected to a 24-h incubation period in darkness prior to being cultured under standard conditions When the leaves of the positive control plants were yellow the target gene had been successfully silenced The seedlings were subsequently transplanted into flowerpots for further cultivation the cotton boll shells were sampled as templates GhNST1 and GhRPL expression levels were detected using qRT−PCR After the samples were fixed for more than 24 hours and embedded to generate paraffin sections (4 μm) The paraffin sections were subjected to staining with safranin O solution and plant solid green staining solution The sections were observed using a Nikon Eclipse E100 microscope (Nikon and images were acquired with a Nikon DS-U3 system In this study, we identified ten AGAMOUS (AG) subfamily genes in upland cotton. On the basis of their homology with Arabidopsis thaliana AG subfamily genes in the phylogenetic tree, these genes were named GhAG.1, GhAG.2, GhAG.3, GhAG.4, GhSHP1.1, GhSHP1.2, GhSTK.1, GhSTK.2, GhSTK.3 and GhSTK.4 (Supplementary Table S1, Figure 1) The lengths and molecular weights of the ten GhAG proteins exhibited minimal variation ranging from 223 to 246 amino acids (aa) and from 25.72 to 28.37 kDa The isoelectric points of the ten GhAG proteins varied between 9.25 and 9.44 indicating that these proteins are alkaline The instability index and average hydropathicity of the GhAG proteins varied from 48.47 to 62.44 and from -0.848 to -0.601 These results suggest that the GhAGs encode unstable hydrophilic proteins Subcellular localization predictions suggested that these proteins were localized within the nucleus Evolutionary relationships of the AG subfamilies in 15 species To clarify the evolutionary relationships among the AG subfamily genes, a total of 98 AG subfamily genes (Supplementary Table S2) from 15 different species were employed to construct a phylogenetic tree. The phylogenetic tree was classified into three main branches (Figure 1) The numbers of genes contained in clades A (n= 28 no homologs of AtSHP2/AGL5 were found among the GhAGs genes homologous to AtSHP2 were found in only three silique species (Bn Intraspecific and interspecies replication analysis of AG subfamily genes (A) Patterns of GhAG subfamily gene duplication in the genome of upland cotton (B) Collinearity analysis of the three cotton species To predict the potential biological functions of the GhAG subfamily genes, we analyzed the cis-acting elements present in their promoters. The cis-acting elements associated with GhAGs can be classified into four primary categories: phytohormone-responsive elements, light-responsive elements, plant growth and development-responsive elements, and abiotic stress-responsive elements (Figure 3) light-responsive elements constituted the majority of the cis-regulatory components within the promoters of the GhAGs whereas elements responsive to plant growth and development constituted the smallest proportion Box 4 (31) was the most common and was present in the promoters of almost all the GhAG genes a total of 20 ABREs associated with the ABA hormone response and 28 ARE elements related to the abiotic stress response were identified in the promoters of the GhAGs CAT-box elements accounted for the largest number of elements responsive to growth and development These findings indicate that GhAGs not only play a significant role in plant hormone regulation but are also associated with the response to abiotic stress Cis-acting elements located within the promoter regions of GhAG genes The Arabic numerals in the cells denote the quantity of cis-acting elements present GhAG.3 and GhAG.4 expression was consistent with the type I pattern and these genes were expressed mainly in the anthers and filaments and during the early stage of ovule and fiber development (-3 to 15 DPA) The GhSHP1.1 and GhSHP1.2 expression patterns were type II with high expression occurring mainly during early ovule and fiber development (-3 to 15 DPA) especially three days before flowering and on the day of flowering GhSTK.3 and GhSTK.4 expression patterns were type III with high expression mainly in ovules (15 DPA) and fibers during the late development period (15 to 25 DPA) It follows that GhAG subfamily genes are highly likely to affect floral organs as well as the development of later ovules and fibers Analysis of the expression patterns of GhAG subfamily genes across various tissues in upland cotton (A) Expression patterns of GhAG subfamily genes in different tissues of TM-1 The color of the continuous gradation represents the expression level (B) Expression patterns of GhAG subfamily genes in different tissues of ZM113 (C) GhSHP1 expression in the cotton boll shell tissues of early and late opening boll varieties We found that GhSHP1 was highly expressed in both cotton boll shell and fiber tissues during the later stage of growth and development and that GhSHP1 transcript levels were greater than that of GhAG-1 To further verify whether GhSHP1 affects cotton boll cracking, qRT−PCR was used to study the difference in GhSHP1 expression in the cotton boll shell tissues of early (Yuzhishi84-1) and late (Ganmian12) opening bolls varieties at different growth stages and during boll shell cracking (Figure 4C) The results revealed that GhSHP1 expression in the cotton boll shell of Yuzhishi84-1 was greater than that in the boll shell of Ganmian12 we hypothesized that GhSHP1 may play a regulatory role in the development of cotton boll shells These findings indicated that GhSHP1 gene silencing not only delayed the flowering time of upland cotton but also reduced the flowering concentration Phenotypic analysis of VIGS-treated upland cotton at the flowering stage (A) Flowering phenotypes of plants treated with CLCrV: ChlI (B) Statistical analysis of the first flowering time of upland cotton (C) Statistical analysis of the first five flowering times of upland cotton This could cause the bolls of the empty vector-transformed plants to crack earlier than those of the CLCrV: analysis of the boll cracking time of upland cotton (C) Paraffin sections of cotton boll shell back sutures from empty vector-transformed plants and CLCrV: GhSHP1-silenced plants The dehiscence zones are marked with a black frame These results indicated that GhSHP1 silencing strongly affected the expression of cracking-related genes indicating that GhSHP1 could be an important gene in the cotton boll opening regulatory network Quantitative analysis of key genes associated with fruit shattering in both control plants and GhSHP1-silenced plants Asterisks denote significant differences in the expression levels of related genes between silenced and control plants (*P<0.05 thaliana is a silique that develops from two symbiotic carpels with a lateral membranous placenta and a replum that is generated at the ventral suture of the carpel to divide the ovary into two chambers the peel cracks along both sides of the abdominal suture and falls off in two pieces and the pod is the fruit formed by the development of a single carpel it splits along the abdominal suture and the back suture simultaneously The cotton boll develops from a compound pistil of a conjunctive carpellary and has an axial placenta The fruit ripens and cracks in a way known as loculicidal dehiscence Follicles develop from a single carpellary pistil or from the apocarpous gynoecium the fruit will split along one side of the dorsal or abdominal suture This discrepancy may arise from the utilization of different reference genomes or from inconsistencies in the screening criteria employed These findings suggested that the AG subfamily genes share a common origin and that different species evolved different numbers of AG subfamily genes during evolution These findings indicate that GhSHP1 expression may be directly correlated with GhIND and GhRPL expression GhSHP1 may have an indirect regulatory relationship with both GhFUL and GhALC This may explain why the expression levels of these four genes differed significantly between the GhSHP1-silenced plants and the control plants We conducted bioinformatic analyses of the GhAGs investigations of promoter cis-acting elements The GhAG promoter sequences include numerous light-responsive elements as well as elements associated with plant hormones Expression pattern analysis revealed that GhAGs may affect the development of flower organs cotton boll shells and fibers during the later stages of growth and development on the basis of the VIGS experiment results we concluded that silencing the GhSHP1 gene led to delayed flowering and boll opening in upland cotton The results of the paraffin section analysis indicate that GhSHP1 may affect the cracking time of cotton bolls by influencing the development of the DZ at the back suture line of the cotton boll shell This study provides a reference for future studies of key genes affecting cotton boll cracking and for the molecular breeding of early-maturing cotton varieties The Since then, we have received a lot of questions about what to use at this point in the season as folks are making passes over the field with herbicides and growth regulators. First off, follow our threshold recommendations. The amount remains the same as in 2023. The short answer for thrips is no, and for plant bugs, yes, if it hits threshold. We covered this in a 2023 article, but here is some more justification. Thrips ThryvOn cotton is an egg-laying and feeding deterrent for thrips. Because it only deters, but […] Introducing the 2025 Pork Leadership Institute Class Your GPS did not respond. After missing out on the chance to play Batman in George Miller's defunct Justice League Mortal Armie Hammer will finally get the opportunity to suit-up as The Dark Knight is set to play the lead in a movie called The Dark Knight from director Uwe Boll who has previously helmed classics such as BloodRayne We have it on good authority that the police chief will be named Gim Jordan We have no idea how they were able to use that title but executive producer Michael Roesch wants to make it very clear that “our movie is very different from Chris Nolan’s movie “With Armie Hammer in the lead role and more great actors to be announced soon we are excited to build up on the great response we got for First Shift and Run and will have another strong movie soon,” he added You can call him controversial or polarizing but you can’t deny that German director Uwe Boll is bold as he further proves the lengths he is willing to go His next movie stars Armie Hammer who is trying to restore his reputation RELATED: ‘The Penguin’ Star Cristin Milioti Was Once In A Sci-Fi Series Akin To ‘Companion’ That, Like Those, Further Demonstrates Hollywood’s Obsession With Toxic Masculinity but is called “The Dark Knight“ he got the attention of the IP’s owner and they weren’t pleased listen it’s not a Batman movie and you can use the title.” Boll made a film called Rampage years before the 2018 kaiju movie based on the Midway arcade game that starred Dwayne Johnson The mere fact a major studio with deep pockets had to ask Boll permission to use a pedestrian title when it already belongs to the game they’re adapting is strange he is not even the first person to use “Rampage” as a title RELATED: No, Really – ‘Justice League: Mortal’ Batman Actor Armie Hammer Stages Comeback In “Vigilante” Film Unrelated To DC Called ‘The Dark Knight,’ Written And Directed By Uwe Boll The late William Friedkin made a true crime thriller by that name in 1987 with a dramatic production history of its own Shelved for five years due to producer Dino De Laurentiis going bankrupt Both Friedkin’s and Boll’s Rampage had a violent and disturbing tone that the latter wants to return to His Dark Knight promises to be a “very dark and violent” reflection of modern Europe which is plagued by migrant crimes how many Batman’s do we want to watch?” he said He ended his rant with one last “They suck,” which probably won’t help his case READ NEXT: ‘Alone In The Dark’ Director Uwe Boll Trolls ‘Borderlands’ And Eli Roth For Its Failure: “Now You Wish I Directed” More About: Last week, Armie Hammer mentioned how his career had suddenly picked up to the point where he was starting to turn down roles due to his busy schedule he’s had to turn down these unspecified roles because one of the projects he’s committed to is Uwe Boll’s next film Hammer is set to star in Boll’s “The Dark Knight.” The actor will play the crime-fighting titular character in a film that’s being described as a “vigilante thriller.” Principal photography is set to begin in Croatia on January 27 In “The Dark Knight,” based on an original script by Boll who takes justice into his own hands as he sets out to hunt down criminals the local police chief sees him as a menace to society and aims to take him down Boll adds that the film’s familiar title should not confuse anyone with Christopher Nolan’s similarly titled 2008 film Boll has participated in many of our critics/filmmaker polls “The Dark Knight” is set to be Boll’s 37th film. The German-born filmmaker is mostly known for his ill-received 2000s adaptations of video game franchises, which were all critical and commercial disasters. He retired in 2016 to become a restaurateur, but returned to filmmaking with “First Shift” (the glorious trailer) Boll proclaimed himself to be “the only genius in the whole fucking [movie] business" and that other directors such as Michael Bay and Eli Roth are "fucking retards" How could he not have such high confidence in himself Especially after releasing 2011’s “Auschwitz,” which he proclaimed as his “masterpiece.” It certainly was the most serious and sober film of his career a 73-minute holocaust movie that only a filmmaker like Boll could pull off “House of the Dead” and “Alone in the Dark” both appear on IMDb's "Bottom 100" film list He once called one of his major detractors a “retard.” When Wired Magazine published a negative review of “Postal” You don’t understand anything about movies and you are an untalented wannabe filmmaker with no balls and no understanding what POSTAL is You don't see courage because you are nothing and no go to your mom and fuck her ...because she cooks for you now since 30 years ..so she deserves it This all led to Boll “challenging” his critics to "put up or shut up". In June 2006, he challenged his five harshest critics each to a 10-round boxing match. One of them was our friend, Jeff Sneider
