The current spring onion harvest began at the end of July in both Germany and Poland and is progressing as expected
"The harvest quantities and qualities so far are quite satisfactory
Although there are individual plots with increased disease pressure
everything is still in the green zone," reports Heinz Düpmann
vegetable processor and managing director of the company of the same name in Borgholzhausen
the market price for onions is trending slightly downwards
Heinz Düpmann with his two sons and his wife Sylvia
we are particularly concerned about the seed onions
which are harvested and stored from September onwards
the farmers are struggling with disease pressure and quality problems
The weather conditions in the next three to four weeks up to the start of harvest will be decisive here
Temperatures of around 25 degrees and sporadic rainfall would be ideal
I don't think there will be any more problem batches like last year," continues Düpmann
Some of Düpmann's products: the company offers customised packaging solutions for the industry
from inlay and thermoformed bags to reusable containers and paloxes
As far as the supply of raw materials is concerned
there has been a seamless transition from old onions to new onions
Overseas onions from Chile or Argentina are now only used occasionally
while New Zealand onions are particularly suitable for the packaging sector and food retail
Düpmann: "We only see a certain amount of volume pressure with Spanish onions
we ourselves mainly rely on German and Polish raw materials
only occasionally buying in additional Spanish onions."
The G-müsegriller is already listed in many food retail outlets and regular tastings are organised in the markets
Utilisation of vegetable cuttingsDüpmann primarily supplies the industry with peeled onions and other vegetable products
Onions account for around 60 per cent of total sales
In addition to the tried and tested classics in various forms
the company is also dedicated to new products
"New since this year is our vegetarian range
which are already listed in the test phase at larger food retail chains
we deliberately looked for a way to process our vegetable offcuts
which are created during the production of other products
a vegetable mass was produced from these offcuts
which were then processed by a company in the neighbouring town into G-MÜSE Grillers
We already had a good quota with the further processing of these cuttings so that they do not end up as waste
we can now also utilise other types of offcuts accordingly
By further processing the offcuts and producing the finished products in the neighbouring village
we are also able to meet the trend towards greater sustainability
We want to continue along this path and there are already some ideas and approaches for further product innovations."
Marc Wittenbrock from Hof Wittenbrock in Halle-Hesseln is a long-standing onion supplier to Düpmann and now also uses AI technologies to grow virtually residue-free produce

Food logistics company Nagel-Group has just expanded its delivery fleet with 20 new electric trucks
with the first vehicles already in operation
The company is also investing in truck charging infrastructure
with fast charging stations now open in four locations
The additions include six Volvo FH Aero Electric and 14 Mercedes-Benz eActros 600 trucks
which will be used for food transportation on both regional and long-range jobs
It’s part of a wider electrification initiative by Nagel-Group
which began using electric semi-trailer trucks back in 2022
The roll-out of the electric trucks will be staggered throughout 2025; the first vehicles already hit the road in March
with additional deliveries scheduled in Q2 and at the end of the year
The six Volvo trucks will join the company’s fleet at its Bochum
and are expected to cover around 150,000km per year of regional deliveries with a range of around 300km per full charge
the Mercedes-Benz models will be used at the Borgholzhausen
Nagel-Group states it is investing in charging infrastructure to support the use of the new vehicles
It says it has installed 400kW charging stations with a total of 12 charging points at four different locations
These are supplied by solar panels and utilise intelligent charging and load management
the company also plans to install a battery storage system for its photovoltaic roof system at its Bochum site
which it says will not only supply its EVs but also its cooling systems
said: “Our first electric semi-trailer trucks have been in use since 2022
we aim to integrate more e-trucks into our transport network to start replacing conventional diesel vehicles.”

Nagel-Group has launched a pilot of its new digital departure management system
The company says the digital solution is aimed at simplifying organisation and route planning for professional drivers
The system is being tested at Nagel-Group's Borgholzhausen
all relevant information for drivers is provided in the application
departure time and current loading status can be called up directly and comments on routes can be stored
allows for timely coordination and efficient planning of subsequent routes
Login via Nagel-Group’s elogistics portal can be used on all mobile devices
while the application can also be used in six different languages
“Digital departure management enables professional drivers to call up all essential information directly using the registration number of the tractor unit and the current transport order number,” explains Florian Seffert
“Digital departure management enables truck drivers to use their breaks more effectively
There is no need to make specific enquiries in the scheduling department
which takes pressure off employees on site,” adds Florian Seffert
particularly in the current Covid-19 pandemic
contributes to protecting drivers and staff.”

Convex/concave coins are being issued in increasing abundance since technology developed by the Monnaie de Paris has been adopted and adapted at mints in Australia
One technology developed by the French Mint that has not been duplicated is the wavy technique used one time only, for a special release in 2001. A gold example of “un ultime franc,” the ultimate or final franc is offered in Teutoburger Münzauktion’s Feb
The coin‘s profile or side view was intentionally shaped like a wave. According to the Monnaie de Paris at the time of its Sept
the coin’s obverse and reverse sides “have a pure and minimalist design in which everything ‘disappears’ in order to be to the edge.”
The coin was designed by famed French artist Philippe Starck.
A .900 fine silver version and a .750 fine gold version were issued
The gold coin weighs 26.1 grams and has a mintage of 4,963 pieces.
obtaining them years after release is harder than collectors might imagine
Teutoburger specializes in offering modern issues
The example in the Teutoburger auction is still in its original box with the certificate of authenticity
It is estimated to realize €600 (about $685 U.S.)
Its precious metal value is about $793 at press time

This latest investment builds on that experience

we aim to integrate more e-trucks into our transport network to start replacing conventional diesel vehicles,” said Carsten Taucke

Last week Canadian Grand Prix rider Evi Strasser has lost her 1996 Olympic Games' career making horse Lavinia at age 28
The black Hanoverian mare was enjoying a happy retirement at Wendy Cutts' yard near Toronto
Lavinia was born in Germany at Gerd Lühr's breeding farm in Borgholzhausen
The sensitive black mare rose to international stardom under German born Canadian Evi Strasser
and was initially meant for a friend but Evi ended up buying her herself
The combination won the Grand Prix tour at the 1995 Festival of Champions in Gladstone
ahead of the American team riders and represented Canada at the 1995 and 1997 World Cup Finals in Los Angeles and 's Hertogenbosch
In 1996 they competed at the Olympic Games in Atlanta
"She was an amazing horse which always did more than I wanted," Strasser reminisced
"That was the great challenge to overcome but I have been very lucky to have had a horse like her in my life."
Evi recalled that her preparation routine for Gladstone in 1995 mainly consisted of walking
it was not easy to calm her down," she said
"Before winning Gladstone I walked her for a week and then I rode the Grand Prix and the Freestyle and she was totally relaxed
After that I again did a week of walking."
Lavinia spent her retirement being pampered by Wendy Cutts
"She was still being ridden lightly and went out as much as she wanted in big fields," Strasser said
"Wendy was always there or made sure she was well taken care of
I'm very grateful she took care of her so well over the years."
