Syd Bosel’s path to the standup stage has been something of an unorthodox one
with the takeaway being there are rewards for never giving up on your dreams
Consider her story beautifully inspirational for anyone convinced they missed the window for unleashing their inner guitar hero
A decade ago the 64-year-old took a second shot at a career she’d been dreaming of since childhood
when she found herself in awe of comedy icons like Phyllis Diller and Carol Burnett
Over the past few years that leap of faith has paid off with award wins
As someone who came to the game later in life
Bosel is well aware that she sometimes surprises audiences when taking the stage
“Maybe this is an observation that I’m bringing on myself
but I still think people underestimate me based on appearance,” she ruminates
“But it’s different once they see me perform.”
The comedian grew up on Vancouver’s East Side
attending Killarney Secondary School at a time when the East Van Cross was a warning to the rest of the city
“People have told me that they remember me from school and that I was really funny,” she says
“I know that got me out of a lot of bad situations
even though it could also get me in trouble.”
In her 20s Bosel got her introduction to live comedy
That led to her initial entry into the world of standup in the ’90s
when she was looking for an outlet from the long days that come with raising a young family
“I tried it when my kids were little because I’d really lost myself as a parent—I’d lost my sense of humour,” Bosel recalls
“There was a night-school class being offered at John Oliver school
the improv exercises that we did were the first time
that I felt so much freedom—to be as funny as I wanted to be
how much I’ve lived with having to put the lid on.”
and rewarding as that foray into a new world was
but I couldn’t honestly do the late nights,” Bosel shares
I could not function and try to do standup
Flash forward to 2014—her kids grown up and out of the nest—and Bosel found herself in a fight that shifted her perspective on life
the experience making her realize there’s no guarantee of how much time we get on planet Earth
“I was deemed clear of cancer in July of 2015
and I realized I’d better do some stuff I wanted to do,” she says
“And so I started taking standup classes again
going to the clubs and doing open mics and taking classes
eventually five nights a week doing standup
things have moved faster than she might have dared dream
In 2018 Bosel took home first place in the BC’s Funniest New Female Competition
included a finalist finish in Great Canadian Yuk Off and second place nod in the “Funniest Person with a Day Job” competition
Last year saw her crowned the winner of BC Yuk Yuk’s Yuk Off
Bosel acknowledges that people might know her best for her 2023 appearance on Canada’s Got Talent
she delivered a mini-set gleefully roasting her adult kids
(“You know what’s fun about having a 24-year-old new feminist come home for the summer
so that’s good,” Bosel says of her appearance
you gotta be out there doing shows so people see you
You also have to say ‘yes’ to pretty much everything that’s offered you.”
Those offers have included steady work in comedy clubs around the province and corporate gigs
as well as opening slots for the likes of high-profile comedy vets like Maria Bamford and Debra DiGiovanni
last year saw Bosel release her debut comedy album Thanks for Swinging By
on which she riffs on everything from the various indignities of incontinence
to the reality working with younger comics on the circuit
to the horrific similarities between a mammogram and panini toasters
Anyone who doubts the old saying “With age comes wisdom” need only check out the album’s gold-star “Vulvas
Bucket list accomplishments this year will include scheduled appearances on CBC’S The Debaters this February and an appearance at the Winnipeg Comedy Festival in May
Gratifying parts of a career that continues to build momentum include Bosel being able to use comedy to raise awareness of serious subjects
(She’s encouraged clubs to make space for info-tables for organizations fighting both diseases.)
She’s also thrilled to have a community that she feels at home in
Bosel eschews big names to instead go all-in on BC talent like Ivan Decker
She also makes sure to single out comedy clubs—Phillips Comedy and Hecklers in Victoria—that have been endlessly supportive of her on the way up
“Standup comedy is such a fine-tuned art form that one can always improve on,” Bosel opines
“That’s one of the things that I love about it
The other thing I love about it is the community
I get to hang with people mostly younger than me that are ambitious and creative
it might have taken her a while to get to the standup stage
but now that she’s there she’s just getting going
“Doing shows is my favourite thing in the whole world,” Bosel says
I should probably not say that: I have grandchildren.”

LISBON — Embattled Columbiana County Recorder Theresa Bosel will not be running for re-election in 2020 unless she does so as a write-in candidate following action taken Monday by the county elections board
The board voted 4-0 to reject Bosel’s candidacy petitions seeking re-election as a Republican because five of the seven petitions she submitted contained what they call “fatal flaws.” The two other petitions had 19 signatures from valid registered voters
well short of the 50 needed to qualify for her name to appear on the March 17 primary election ballot
Bosel’s removal from the ballot leaves only Republican James Armeni
were deemed invalid because Bosel left blank the entire so-called nominating section
This is the part that officially advises whose candidacy petition you are about to sign and the candidate’s party affiliation
Officials said this must be filled out before the petition circulator — who was Bosel in this instance– begins obtaining signatures
Failure to do so is considered a major procedural error
Elections board director Kim Fusco said they checked with the Ohio Secretary of State’s office
which advised them of a 2019 Ohio Supreme Court ruling
In that case the court upheld a decision to reject the petitions of a school board candidate because
he left the the nominating section of his petition blank
Fusco said the county prosecutor’s office reviewed the court ruling and agreed it applied in this instance
Bosel said Fusco called her to inform her of the board’s decision
she could as a write-in candidate but only in the November general election
Bosel indicated she does not plan to take any action in response to the board’s decision
I’ll move on,” she said in a text message
Bosel was first elected in 2012 and re-elected in 2016
“She’s done this (run for office) before
Has she ever made mistakes like this before?” asked board member Vic Maroscher
Bosel’s five flawed petitions also contained other problems
which is known as the declaration of candidacy
Bosel listed her name and that she was running for recorder but failed to fill in the blanks stating the term of office she was seeking and the election date
Fusco believes this to also be another fatal flaw that would have resulted in an automatic rejection of her petitions
The filing deadline to get on the primary election ballot was 4 p.m
When officials pointed out the omissions in both sections of the petition
which cannot be done once the petitions have officially been filed
Bosel also confirmed that she had circulated all seven petitions
but she failed to sign the portion of the petitions denoting she was the circulator
Fusco said this mistake occurred because Bosel apparently printed out the petitions online or made copies using the wrong-sized paper
which cut off the portion of the petition where the circulator signs
Fusco said candidates are responsible for filling out the portions of the petitions that must be completed before they can begin obtaining signatures
The circulator portion of the petition can be filled out and signed after the circulator is done obtaining signatures
Board member David Johnson was aware of the Supreme Court ruling prior to the meeting
but board member Patty Colian pointed out she was not privy to that information
Johnson said he asked the staff to provide him with a copy that morning after learning of its existence
When asked by deputy elections board director Bryce Miner if she wanted a copy too
Colian said she would have preferred one in advance of the meeting like Johnson
four-member election boards are made up of two Democrats and two Republicans
Johnson is county Republican Party chairman and Colian is one of the Democratic representatives
Bosel is currently awaiting trial in Mahoning County on vehicular manslaughter charges for allegedly causing an Aug
19 traffic accident that claimed the life of Cecil Chamberlain

We meet the stars of the buzzy new farming docuseries
but at its core is a commitment to preserving soil health
Methods are being explored by pioneers in quiet corners of the world
a town an hour from Berlin known for its untouched nature and dense population
It’s here that you’ll find Benedikt Bösel and Tess Ward
the stars of Disney+ documentary series Farm Rebellion
Munich-born Benedikt runs a regenerative farm
and focuses on exploring innovative land use concepts to build healthy ecosystems
having spent years working in London before moving to the east German countryside along with Ben
where they now live with two young children
working towards a regenerative future together
Benedikt: This is an estate that goes back to the family of my step-grandfather
whose family has lived here for 250+ years
He and my parents started re-buying all the land and the forest
My family is not originally from East Germany
I was born in Munich and my parents and my family were living in the Rhinelands
My mother was the first one to move here because we realised to run a farm you needed to be there
That’s when my mother took over and started renovating the houses
a field would have had 80 to 100 different owners – so the process of getting everything back was a lifelong task
That kickstarted me looking for alternative land use map models all over the world from the USA
and finding all these pioneers of regenerative agriculture
why doesn’t the whole world talk about this
I started trying to bring that knowledge here on the farm
Tess: We met through various work related things – I did a podcast with Benny about agriculture and then I ended up moving to East Brandenburg which was not expected
I did training at Cordon Bleu and was working in the food space in London for many years
doing experiential dinners and events for brands
but I think in a sense I felt like something was missing from that
Coming to the farm and learning about agriculture
that was a realisation for me: the source of everything is how food is grown and the soil from which it’s grown
Tess: The most important thing is the sourcing of food – I work a lot with all of the products that we grow on the farm
My ethos around food is adaptable to where you’re living and the seasons
for specific reasons in that when you eat in a way that is so entirely focused on cutting out animal products
and as a consequence you’re looking at a great amount of insects being killed and a lot of glyphosate and other things like that
and I think it’s because I didn’t fully understand what a natural way of working with animals looks like
You have to be confronted with it to really understand it
Tess: I’ve always really loved food from childhood
My grandma was a great cook and I absolutely loved her cooking – I was definitely spoiled
we had great roast chicken on Sundays and quite a diverse range of things
She would experiment: she went to India and came back with a real obsession around spices – turmeric was on everything
My mum taught me that what you put into your body is really what you’re going to get out of it
And although I wouldn’t associate my food as being healthy
all of the ingredients I use are from really good sources
Tess: I’m a stickler for using everything and if it doesn’t go into a dish, if it’s some skin, some fish or some meat or whatever, it goes to my dog. But I think waste is an inevitable part of cooking, but if you’re buying things in a veg box that’s organic for example
you’ll get a box and nothing has plastic on it
Things like peelings or trimmings or whatever can all be composted
So I think it’s just trying to buy stuff that’s not in a plastic wrapper
Benedikt: I see that the term is being used by everyone nowadays
but I would also argue that we need to be realistic and reasonable
today we are either heroes or we are the complete opposite
We have to create role models that are relatable
I think as far as agriculture is concerned
the solution is not a few people starting to plant more trees or to spray a little less
The big problem is that we have designed an agricultural system that is producing five times the cost
than it is actually being able to take value as far as nutrition is concerned
The system is designed to produce as much as you can for the cheapest possible price – that destroys soil and biodiversity and it’s bad for your health
and I think it’s the solution to many other projects such as biodiversity
But we won’t be able to change the world by claiming we’re the only ones who do good
Regenerative agriculture for me is not definable by the methods being applied
but it’s an assessment of the soil and the ecosystem at hand
Benedikt: Every day brings some sort of chaos
Usually our daughter wakes up at around 5am
I’ll go downstairs and make a coffee for us and a bottle for her
and then it’s really a matter of putting out fires everywhere
I sadly have to be much more in the office than I would like to be
I don’t know how she does it – she’s had her second child in two years
she’s just finished her masters in neuroscience
but it was also incredibly intimate and a bit scary
We started three weeks after my daughter was born
Before we started there was a bit of fear around that
but I always joke it’s the best home video you could ever get
Benedikt: It was an incredible opportunity
because never again will you be given such an opportunity to show the topic of farming to such a big audience
we spent 100 days with the team so they became close friends and they became big fans of what we do
The best part for me personally was when we were not at home – I met some cool pioneers like Isabella Tree
What’s really important is that societal shift: understanding the value of farmers’ work and the importance of land use for our futures and for the next generation
and falling back in love with nature and food
And learning how healthy soil leads to healthy food and healthy people
These are such important things in our time
Farm Rebellion is available now on Disney+

CANFIELD — Columbiana County Recorder Theresa Bosel will not face any jail time for a 2019 traffic accident that claimed the life of former Salem resident Cecil Chamberlain
During Tuesday’s sentencing hearing on misdemeanor vehicular manslaughter charges
Mahoning County Municipal Court Judge Molly Johnson sentenced Bosel to one year probation and fined her $150
Bosel was also sentenced to 90 days in jail — the maximum allowed — with 60 days suspended
The remaining 30 days were ordered served under electronically monitored house arrest “out of concern for the COVID-19 pandemic,” Johnson said
The judge deviated from the plea deal reached with the prosecutor’s office by suspending Bosel’s license for two years instead of the recommended one and then ordering she undergo a physical examination to determine her fitness to continue driving
Bosel was ordered to perform 120 hours of community service
in the Salem area since Chamberlain felt so fondly about his old hometown
Chamberlain lived in California but spent part of the year in Salem
The accident occurred while he was back to attend his 50th class reunion and go golfing with his old classmates
The 69-year-old Chamberlain died after Bosel’s Jeep Wrangler went left of center and struck his Ford Fusion on Aug
on Western Reserve Road in Mahoning County
Bosel’s Jeep also struck a GMC Terrain
but neither the driver nor passenger in that vehicle were injured
who scheduled the sentencing hearing for Tuesday
attended the hearing from California via Zoom
but chose not to comment because they were too upset
but did provide Johnson with written statements
Attorney Greg Rossi attended the hearing on their behalf
changed their lives forever” because the family lost a loving husband
“They’re asking for more than house arrest,” he told Johnson
adding they believe the maximum 90-day jail sentence was warranted based on the totality of the evidence
Rossi said they were concerned about two factors that may have played a role in the accident
First was the prescription medications Bosel had at the time
which drew an immediate objection from her attorney
who said his client was not charged with driving impaired nor was there any evidence to that effect
stated she had taken prescriptive medication at 5 a.m
and usually waited at least eight hours before driving
The accident occurred six hours later at about 11 a.m
noting Bosel admitted taking the medication
but the judge also noted there was no evidence she was impaired
Bosel passed a field sobriety test administered at the scene but declined to provide a urine sample
The Chamberlain family filed a civil suit against Bosel
but Rossi said in the course of pursuing that lawsuit Bosel raised the defense that she suffered from seizures/blackouts
Rossi noted she originally denied being at fault and told investigators at the scene Chamberlain was the one who drove left of center
despite the witness statements and other evidence to the contrary
telling Johnson she was raised with his family and was more like a sister than a cousin
He described Bosel as “someone who was always trying to fix thing and help others.”
“I just want to express to everyone here that I know my cousin is a wonderful person,” he said
as he apologized to the Chamberlain family for what occurred and expressed sympathy
Newbold said when Bosel attended Thanksgiving dinner at his house “she couldn’t even have a conversation without tears streaming down her face.”
“I already believe my cousin is in prison and I believe she is going to be in there for the rest of her life … She’s absolutely torn apart and there’s nothing she can do or anyone can do to fix it,” he added
and tearfully described her mother as an amazing person
“My mother would never put anyone intentionally at risk,” she said
DeWalt said her mother is devastated by what she has done and expressed her sympathy to the Chamberlain family
she doesn’t sleep … She is haunted by the accident,” she said
and she explained how she suffered seizures/blackouts before
She had been seizure-free several months prior to the accident and was cleared by her doctor at the time of the accident
Bosel was not sure at first she was not at fault
“I’m not trying to make an excuse … I would never drive under the influence,” she said
“I’m so sorry that it was my vehicle that took your husband
and I can never give him back to you,” Bosel told the Chamberlains
“I’m so very sorry for your loss
I see him every night when I close my eyes.” she added
Johnson said Bosel appeared to suffer from seizure-like blackouts the year prior to the accident
with her doctor at one time advising her not to drive
She did not have an episode for 60 days prior to the accident
but she had other medical episodes afterwards
But Johnson pointed out Bosel was not charged with driving impaired
this court nor the surviving widow and family of Cecil Chamberlain will ever know what exactly happened,” she said
“At the end of the day a life was lost here
and no sentence will ever be enough to compensate for the loss of Cecil’s life
And I know you folks know that,” Johnson added
but her candidacy petitions were invalidated after the county elections board determined she had improperly filled them out

CANFIELD — Columbiana County Recorder Theresa Bosel on Tuesday received a 30-day house arrest
a $150 fine and two-year driver’s license suspension on a conviction for vehicular manslaughter in a 2019 Beaver Township crash that killed a 69-year-old California man
she must serve 120 hours of community service as well as pass a physical exam before being allowed behind the wheel again
“A life was lost and no sentence will be able to compensate for that,” Johnson said during sentencing
“My job is to call it like I see it.”
Bosel had pleaded no contest last month to the charge
which was part of a plea deal with prosecutors
Johnson said she was adopting part of the plea deal agreement
The judge said she thought “long and hard” about giving Bosel a few days in jail for the misdemeanor
“But out of concern for the COVID-19 pandemic
the defendant is to serve … 30 days on electronically monitored house arrest,” Johnson said
The fatal accident occurred just after 11 a.m
Bosel was driving on the two-lane road in Mahoning County when her Jeep Wrangler went left of center
striking a GMC Terrain and then the Ford Fusion driven by Cecil Chamberlain
was treated for injuries at a local hospital
the driver of the Terrain or a passenger in the Terrain were injured
Bosel told Roberta and her daughter Abbey Broch
that she was “terribly sorry” for the accident
were hooked into the courtroom by a Zoom video app
“I see Cecil’s face every time I close my eyes,” Bosel said
Bosel had multiple prescriptions she takes as needed for pain related to her medical conditions
told the judge she was driving even though a doctor told her not to drive for at least eight hours after taking the medication
Bosel passed field sobriety tests administered at the scene by a state trooper
Johnson acknowledged the fact by saying she was charged with vehicular manslaughter
“which is a fancy way of saying it was an accident.”
Five Chamberlain family members submitted victim’s impact statements to the court
and Rossi admitted they wanted to see some jail time for Bosel
“A life was lost and no sentence will be enough to compensate for that,” Johnson said
Bosel had two relatives deliver impact statements for her — cousin Adam Newbald and her daughter

comedian Syd Bosel and an all-women comic troop want to make you laugh about things you may not have thought were laughing matters
Bosel said the idea for the show came from her experience as a comic that the day
was a great opportunity to encourage women to come out and see women comics perform
something she said has always been well-received in the past
So she worked with her agent at Coultish Management to organize a show featuring some of her favourite women comics from the Vancouver comedy scene where she got her start – Helen Schneiderman and Christine Hackman
“Our tagline is ‘bring your friends and your panty liners,’ so people can expect a lot of fun,” said Bosel
“Every comic that I invited to be on this show is funny and they are all nice people.”

But the show is more than just a night for women to get together and laugh about familiar subjects
It’s also meant to serve as inspiration and as a lesson for everyone about the importance of not waiting to pursue your dreams
started her comedy career in earnest just six years ago
taking classes in Vancouver and eventually moving to Comox
and spurred to revisit her dream after a successful battle against breast cancer
But she originally planned to pursue her dream of becoming a comic in the early ‘90s
but was not able to work the late nights required as she was raising her kids
”I like to showcase mature comics if I can because I find we are quite underestimated,” said Bosel
“My latest campaign is really focused on letting women see other women doing stuff that we are doing before waiting for all our ducks are in a row
and if you wait until that happens or this is accomplished
but don’t wait until everything is perfect.”

Syd Bosel paid tribute to her children in the funniest of fashions on the April 11 edition of Canada’s Got Talent; by roasting them in a stand-up routine
had the judges and audience laughing throughout her routine
It was the reason for her being there that stole everyone’s hearts
“My husband is ill; he just recently got diagnosed with dementia,” Bosel said
when host Howie Mandel asked what brought her to CGT
“We needed to make hay while the sun shines
and so we are working hard to do lots of fun things that we have always wanted to do.”
Bosel received four ‘yeses’ from the judging panel (unanimous) and moves on to the next round

UPDATE: 98 dogs, 3 cats taken from house in St. Clair County
At least 70 dogs were seized from a Cottrellville Township home Tuesday and today
Clair County Sheriff Animal Control Division received complaints in the 7500 block of South River Road about foul odor and loud barking coming from a residence
where the animal control officer and two deputies found dozens of dogs
The dogs removed from the house include Norwegian buhunds and norrbottenspets
Twenty-two of the dogs were taken to the county animal shelter Tuesday
A Colorado based Norwegian buhund rescue arranged temporary housing throughout Michigan for the remaining 23 dogs
an animal control officer returned to the home to remove the remaining dogs
Animal control officers and sheriff deputies returned with a search warrant to seize the remaining dogs at around 4 p.m
one got loose and had to be caught before it ran into the road
Neighbor Greg Bosel reported the house to authorities
because of the constant barking and the stench
He said he was also concerned about the dogs' welfare
The dogs living inside the house all appeared to be in good overall physical condition; however they were covered in feces and urine from the poor living conditions
The dogs had free run of the house and were not caged
Clair County Sheriff Tim Donnellon said investigators were still trying to determine the exact number of dogs taken from the house
Donnellon said criminal charges would be up to the St
He said animal cruelty charges were a possibility
upset that a Detroit TV station was outside his home
the people living in the house had moved here from Colorado in hopes of breeding and selling the dogs

.st1{fill-rule:evenodd;clip-rule:evenodd;fill:#2a2a2a}By Tom Haroldson | Special to MLiveVICKSBURG, MI - They're wetting their whistle at Vicksburg's first microbrewery with the grand opening today of the Distant Whistle Brewhouse downtown
Distant Whistle Brewhouse owners Dane Bosel and Andy Clouse opened the first microbrewery in Vicksburg today
Owners Dane Bosel and Andy Clouse welcomed their first customers at noon and will be open until midnight for their celebration at 118 S
Included in the special event will be $5 tastings flights (pick four) and the Irish-Scottish folk group
It's been a two-year journey for the home brewers who first pitched the plan in 2014 at another location and eventually settled in the heart of revitalized downtown Vicksburg at what used to be the former Boundary Waters restaurant and Rosewood Flowers shop
"Between us we have about 13 years of home brewing experience," Bosel said
"Our philosophy is we need to make great beer."
What's on tap today at the Distant Whistle Brewhouse
Most of the beer is brewed on site and there are seven beers on tap: C-C-C-Combo Breaker
a brown ale; Paramount IPA; Backpackers Blonde Coffee
a blonde ale using beans from the Kalamazoo Coffee Co.; 'Burg's Bitter
The 20-ounce servings go for $4 or $5. Details can be found on the website, www.distantwhistle.com
with pizza and chicken wings two favorites already
Soft drinks and snacks are available for purchase
Bosel said that "Once we get rolling we will fire up the home brewer of the month contest" in which local home brewers can come in and brew their own version
the Distant Whistle will invite them to be a guest brewer with that recipe
"We encourage more people to work on their craft," Bosel said
The taproom's microbrewer liquor license calls for making less than 30,000 gallons a year
to midnight Friday and noon to midnight Saturdays
the Distant Whistle Brewhouse got its moniker playing on Vicksburg's identify as a railroad crossing town that includes the Vicksburg Depot Museum
Dozens of trains roll through town every day
Craft brewing is possibly one of the fastest rising businesses in Michigan
In 2011 there were 105 breweries in the state and this year there are more than 200
Michigan is fifth in the nation in the number of breweries

a downpour of rain saw a scourge of weeds (including three-metre high pink burr
giant rat's tail and three-feet high sensitive weed) explode across their 160 acres
to manage their infestation in a more environmentally-friendly way (opting away from chemicals)
they introduced goats to help mow down the weeds
The horned occupants made quick work of the issue and while the Bosels were happy with the new additions
queries about purchasing goat meat began to trickle in from friends

Picture: Steph Allen"We started selling goats whole
We take the animals to (JS McGill Kuttabul Abbatoir)
They butcher them and cut them up for our customers to collect," Mrs Bosel said
"The people buying the goats wanted to know if we had lambs
We had the place fenced for goats so we thought we'd buy lambs as well...and we did the same with our cattle - (selling them bulk first) for three years
with Senepol and Droughtmaster bulls joined to Droughtmaster Charbray
The couple run the bulls with the cows 24/7
ensuring different sizes throughout the year for slaughter and a year-round supply

Otherwise you'll have 30 head all at 500kg," Mr Bosel said

We want animals that are able to handle the wet

the Bosels have strong leanings towards regenerative practices
managing weeds with goats followed by cattle and ensuring the health and animal husbandry by managing parasite burdens and worming needs through faecal egg counting
"We will rotate the cattle behind the goats...and they'll clean up the parasites and not be affected in the same way the goats are
We're doing bits and pieces like that to reduce our reliance on synthetic imports," Mrs Bosel said
and said customers' increased health awareness had been a bit driving factor behind the success of their pasture-raised

running a refrigerated display trailer at farmers markets where customers can buy by the kilo
an aspect we're really enjoying is talking to customers
People who live in town want to know what we're doing
Some people want to buy grass fed and know they're supporting a farmer...but some people talk for an hour...they want to know what we do
telling us they're not with that buying from supermarkets and they want to support local

Bush Lemon Farm believes in respecting their animals by using every part through a "nose-to-tail" method
"There's a strong push from people that are conscious about eating more health-food to incorporate some of the (organ meats into their diet)," Mrs Bosel said
"The organ meats are actually very popular
they want to incorporate into their diets."
Picture: Steph AllenOne of the biggest problems within the paddock-to-plate industry of late has been the reduction in small abattoirs
"We're lucky McGills is just down the road...so we can go to them and keep it fairly local," Mrs Bosel said
"There used to be butcher shops with a slaughterhouse at the back
You have all these animals in feed lots and they go to big slaughter yards
huge massive abattoirs and the rumps get put in one box and shipped off to whose ordering rumps...it's not nose-to-tail
The Bosels are also involved with Queensland Goat Producers with president Glenda Henry from Clermont
Picture: Steph Allen"Part of their activities is promoting farmed goat meat as an alternative protein source and also...getting the right funding to develop small animal abattoirs," Mrs Bosel said
There is an awareness that this is a problem and there is a growing (need)...and groups (like QGoat) are looking at ways to mitigate that."
moving into more wholesale arrangements is on the cards
"Working with other producers is something...we'd enjoy," Mrs Bosel said
Picture: Steph AllenAnd as for those cuts of meat
the Bosels are advocates of their own supply
You can't compare home grown...you never go back (to supermarket meat)," she said
