Bennett Winch Hand-made in England, Bennett Winch specialises in timeless accessories for the discerning minimalist. Going by the ethos that if you buy well you need only ever buy once, this cardholder is one to cherish for years to come, made from a Tuscan leather rich in colour and texture – and with room for six cards and plenty more. Externally, the logo is subtly embossed to the front panel, serving as a reminder of its quality every time you reach for it. Duke + Dexter Duke + Dexter may sound like dogs, but these names actually represent the brand behind your new favourite playful designs. Originating on its classic penny loafers, prints such as lipstick kisses, scorpions, snakes, cherries and (our favourite) cowboys then find their way onto these slimline, top-stitched, printed card holders with added cash pocket. Draw those debit cards… Church's Brogue or billfold, you can always count on Church’s to provide perfect leather goods – and that’s certainly the case here. Coming in chalk white St James leather with a polished black interior, this heirloom-quality piece has a modish undertone that distinguishes it above the rest. Ever the top source for minimalist menswear pieces, Cos’ accessories collection includes this beautiful black cardholder. Made from a sturdy leather and stitched with a trio of slots at the front, this one proposes a great styling option thanks to the D-ring lanyard attached to the edge of its frame. At once effortlessly stylish and practical, simply loop like a crossbody for a nice central touch to your outfit. The Porter Tanker is a functional kind of bag with military origins, and while you can pick up a Uniqlo multi-pocket dupe, you don't really need to seek something cheaper on the wallet front. We'd say it having all of the utilitarian verve of the bag, with the reasonable price of a solid wallet, is all the excuse you need to buy the OG. What’s the perfect wallet in your eyes? Because if, like us, it’s big enough to carry cash, cards and receipts, and is secondarily an unfussy piece of leather craftsmanship, then you needn’t look any further than Sunspel’s signature bifold. Issey Miyake just won't quit reimagining how things should look. The brand somehow manages to do this in fascinating ways without making its pieces look too eccentric. So it is with this triangular appliqué bifold in squidgy textile and taffeta lining. For Bao Bao Issey Miyake, the future is now. If you bought Significant Other by Limp Bizkit back in 1999 then you're too old to be carrying anything with velcro on it, but you're not too old to go back to the chain wallet so long as it's this here grown-up Coach iteration. The designers and artisans at Loewe have only gone and done it: they've managed to find the most luxurious shade of camel seen in human history. Here it is, look! All buttery and perfect on the face of this billfold. Bottega Veneta’s ‘Intrecciato’ weave is one of the most respected motifs in the fashion world, making it an ultra-stylish addition to your accessories collection. Bringing this bi-fold wallet to life through a supple brown leather, its silhouette is shaped to a slick rectangular frame and fitted with every possible detail you could ask for, including eight slots and two internal pockets. An investment well worth making, if you ask us. We may have just found the most luxury wallet of all time: introducing this ‘Makore’ style by Berluti. A prime example of the Italian house’s mastery of enduring leather goods, it's been crafted from signature Venezia leather (burnished during production to really enhance its rich burgundy colour) and is perfectly compartmentalised inside its unique curved frame. Given the pure craftsmanship and resulting longevity to this design, we’d say it’s worth every penny. There's a jolt of colour to this narrow Ami Paris wallet, but fans of a more neutral accessory still have much to enjoy. Namely: richly textured grained leather, almost-gold brass hardware and a diminutive size that should fit in most jeans pockets. You get the sense that Tom Ford's designers can't help but imbue every little piece they create with a total sense of glamour and opulence. So it is with this money clip-cum-card holder which has calfskin on the outer and sheepskin on the inner, with gold tone hardware completing the recognisable TF look. No fuss or faff with Diesel, whose very-Y2K billfold wallet is largely so because of that iconic logo in hardware on its face. Elsewhere it's all business, with a long-lasting and textured pebble-grained face plus a bunch of note, coin and card slots within. Made from a black cracked-leather which grants a cool, broken-in effect from the get-go, Acne Studios’ latest offering in the accessories department is as fashionable as it is functional. The latter is ensured by its inner details: from the generous choice of card slots and zipped pocket for change to the small mirror to aid a dose of confidence. Just in case you need it. A coin wallet like this is as bold as the maximalist who wears it. Made to be worn in the open, this Gucci number uses the classic monogram and the equally heritage green and red stripe to make it a true stand out. Perfect for the pattern-lover or an ideal accessory to offset an all-black outfit. A classic wallet construction is, of course, made of full-grain leather. Durable and irrefutably suave, a good leather wallet or leather cardholder is sure to last years in your collection, provided that it’s cut from high-quality leather. For the best leather wallets, you’re going to want something constructed out of Italy or Paris; think a Bellroy or a Louis Vuitton. A vegan alternative, however, is to opt for a minimalist card case. Infused with all the retro appeal of an old-school, Don Draper-esque cigarette case, a good card case can come in plastic, leather, faux leather, metal, and more – whatever you’re looking for, it’s probably out there. Leave the leatherology to the carnivores. Cecil Crosby, a 74-year-old resident of PruittHealth Barnwell, had a dream to fly. On Feb. 13, Harry Bous, a pilot who lives in Columbia, helped Crosby cross that dream off his bucket list. This was all part of PruittHealth's annual Committed to Caring Second Wind Dream Project where PruittHealth helps bring residents' dreams to reality. "Once a year we do a project like Make-A-Wish for a resident or have something that they all enjoy, like opening the coffee shop last year for them. That was big hit and has continued to be great for them," said Jessica Owens, activities director at PruittHealth Barnwell where Crosby has resided since 2011. On Wednesday, Feb. 13 at 10 a.m., Crosby was escorted to the Barnwell Regional Airport on a quite windy day. He was accompanied by Dottie Jackson’s Montessori class from Barnwell Primary School. After Crosby arrived, he was escorted to the plane with Pilot Bous. The airplane that Crosby would be flown in was small and could hold around six people at maximum capacity. The children and the nursing staff watched as Crosby and Bous took off in the plane down the runway. Bous flew Crosby from Barnwell to Orangeburg, and then back to Barnwell. Once the plane was high enough, they could reportedly see Columbia in the distance. Crosby experienced a 45-minute journey, one which he won’t forgot soon. "When they touched down and road by the crowd, he gave us a thumbs up with a great big smile," said Owens of Crosby. Once Bous and Crosby returned from a slightly turbulent flight, they were greeted with champagne, balloons and confetti followed by a reception at the airport hosted by the nursing staff and primary school children. The nursing staff at PruittHealth decided to do this for Crosby because they like to keep their seniors happy. “Being able to come out and do the one-on-one thing with just us and do this (flying Crosby in a small plane) is a good thing for him,” said Christie Antley, a nurse at PruittHealth Barnwell. According to Antley, Crosby was a truck driver for years and had a passion for it. According to PruittHealth, Bous decided to fly Crosby out of the kindness of his heart and did not require any compensation for the ride. Spain’s controversial bull-running festivals have once again hit the headlines after a deadly summer in which at least 10 people lost their lives, exacerbating divisions over the centuries-old tradition. Seven deaths occurred in the eastern Valencia region where the practice of releasing bulls into the streets for entertainment has sparked debate, with the other fatalities taking place in the regions of Madrid, Castilla y Leon and Navarra in the north. This year’s toll raises to more than 30 the total number of people who have been killed in Valencia’s bull-running events since 2015. This summer’s victims, who died from injuries sustained while racing through the streets alongside a group of hefty bulls — known as bous al carrer in Valencian — were between the ages of 18 and 73. Six of them were men and one was a woman — a French woman who was the oldest victim. They died after being gored or trampled by the bulls. Countless other people were injured, among them minors. Bull-running events are a highlight of summer festivities across Spain, with the best known being the San Fermin festival in the northern city of Pamplona. The idea is that a small group of bulls are let loose into a fenced-off area of the streets and hundreds of foolhardy thrill-seekers run alongside them for a few adrenaline-fueled minutes, in a spectacle that draws thousands of spectators. In Valencia and in southern parts of neighboring Catalonia, such events are hugely popular and few are the villages that don’t put on some sort of entertainment involving bulls barreling through the streets. There are also bous a la mar — races to the seafront where at the end of the run, the participants vie to try and make the bulls fall into the water, most ending up there themselves. Experts are divided about when the practice of running the bulls began but Cuellar, a town some 150 kilometers north of Madrid, claims to have historical records dating back to the 13th century. And although the exact origin of the tradition is unclear, it is thought to emerged out of the need to bring bulls from the countryside into the towns on market day when they would be corralled through the streets with sticks. Irrespective of how it began, it has become a political hot potato for the local authorities, which often sparks heated debate and can win or lose an election. When the Socialists and their hard-left ally Podemos managed to take over Valencia’s regional government in 2015, ousting the right-wing Popular Party, they were careful to steer well clear of the issue. Podemos, which in Valencia is known as Compromis, is implacably opposed to any entertainment involving bulls. “It’s not a simple issue, whether you’re debating or legislating... there are many sensitivities,” Valencia’s regional deputy leader Aitana Mas told reporters. “At some point, it’s a debate which we have to have,” said Mas of the Compromis party, referring to a ban on all such activities. “We’re talking about seven lives this summer alone,” she said, but adding it was also necessary to talk about “protecting animals.” But German Zaragoza, head of the region’s Federation of Bull-Fighting Clubs which promotes bull-running events as the Spain’s “most-traditional and authentic” fiestas, says any such move would face an uphill battle. “They will have to take on Valencia’s love for the bous al carrer,” he said. “The right to access culture — and all events featuring bulls are absolutely part of that — is sacred within the constitution,” he said in a statement. “And neither the city councils nor the regions have the authority to ban or organise a referendum” on the fate of such events. The right-wing Popular Party, which has a long history of supporting any bull-related festivities, pledged its support for such traditional events. Those who question the validity of such fiestas “are attacking who we are and how we express our traditions and culture,” said Marta Barrachina, a local PP leader in Valencia. But not all areas of Valencia feel the same, with towns like Sueca or Tavernes de la Valldigna refusing to issue permits for bull-running events this year. And animal welfare associations have published a manifesto calling for a ban on change.org which describes bull-running events as “torture dressed up as culture and tradition” in which “abuse is more than evident.” Such spectacles often involve “these noble animals” being beaten with sticks, kicked, jerked around, insulted, humiliated and subjected to stress, it states. And the runners “are often drunk or under the influence of drugs, with many also injured.” So far, the petition has garnered some 5,500 signatures. No bullfights have been held in Catalonia since 2011 but 'correbous' – events involving bulls where the animals are not killed – are still commonplace The Catalan parliament is considering a change in the law which would see eight out of ten 'correbous' events partially or completely banned based on analysis from the Catalan News Agency (ACN) of figures provided by the Department of the Interior after a freedom of information request.  The new legislation would outlaw 'bous capllaçats' – where ropes are tied around the bull's horns to guide it and stop it charging as it is walked through the streets – and 'bous embolats' – where metal attachments with flammable material are placed on the bull's head and then lit up like sparklers.  These two activities were included in 85.7% of the authorized 'correbous' festivals that took place in Catalonia between 2009 and November 2023.  Although the animals are not killed as in bullfighting, the vast majority of people in Catalonia believe 'correbous' are a form of animal cruelty.   The department gave permission for 702 'correbous' festivals in the last 15 years, with most of them lasting for more than one day, resulting in 2,985 days of bull-related events. Over 80%, 602 out of 702, featured 'bous capllaçats' or 'bous embolats'.  The other festivals featured other bull-related events that will not be banned under the potential new rules, such as 'bous a la plaça' (bulls in the square), where bulls are let loose in an enclosure surrounded by protective barriers and stands for the public.   Around 90% of 'correbous' events in the last 15 years took place in Montsià and Baix Ebre, Catalonia's two southernmost regions.  Get the day's biggest stories right to your phone More than 300 festival goers also injured during 2022’s Bous al Carrer festivities The summer festivities – which translate as “bulls on the street” and which are held in towns and villages across Valencia – have also resulted in more than 300 injuries in the past two months when the high number of fatalities prompted the Valencian government to toughen the legislation governing the fiestas Current rules forbid people under 16 to participate as well as those who are physically or psychologically unfit An emergency meeting of the Bous al Carrer advisory committee was held on Monday to “review the current situation of the festivities and to listen to those involved in order to come up with preventive campaigns and more training for clubs and organisers” Valencia’s secretary for safety and emergencies said: “We can’t lose respect for the bulls because the bulls kill and these festivals carry a high risk.” The fiestas, he added were not like going to an outdoor dance or a concert in the village square – “they bring with them an individual and collective risk Ángel said the existing rules – which are frequently reviewed and updated to make them “some of the most exhaustive and restrictive in all of Spain” – needed to be followed “It’s very important that whenever a situation that could constitute a breach is detected immediate measures are taken and the director of festivities or a bull expert is informed,” he said “If an event has to be stopped or suspended because that’s what the circumstances demand then that’s what will happen until things get back to normal.” the mayor of the Valencian town of Puçol – where a 12-year-old boy was gored this year – warned of the high Bous de Carrer accident rate in the area and called on festivalgoers to behave prudently “We ask those taking part in the Bous de Carrer to act responsibly,” said Paz Carceller do it without drink or drugs for everyone’s sake.” The Spanish animal rights party Pacma said that nothing short of a total ban on bull festivals would end the suffering of humans and animals. “Any measure taken that isn’t the prohibition of all bull festivals will be useless,” it said in a statement “These events are based on extreme cruelty and violence and are an authentic torture for animals and a huge danger to all people This is about archaic traditions that foment violence and poison society.” Six people were gored – none of them fatally – and more than 80 others injured at Pamplona’s famous annual bull-running festival last month Mission Statement: to assist the integration of foreign residents living in Spain and this is never more event in what is already the most tragic year for deaths in Valencia region of Spain. The incident happened on Wednesday afternoon in the town of Almassora, a municipality in Castellón province (one of the three that make up the Valencia Comunitat), in which bullfighting events are currently being held. The victim, according to the first reports, was walking near the bull run barriers in the street, heading in the direction of his house, and with no apparent intention of participating in the event when the bull charged him and gored him in the groin, before he fell hit his head on the ground. The injured man was initially treated by health personnel in facilities at the bullfighting arena, before being transferred to the general hospital in Castellón in a serious condition. He died shortly afterwards in the hopsital's intensive care unit. The town hall in Almassora suspended all the acts of the Roser festivities scheduled for Wednesday following the death. The remaining bull events are scheduled to continue from today (Thursday) until Sunday, 9 October. The mayor, Merche Galí, has conveyed condolences to the victim's family and called a minute of silence at 12 noon. Registered office Málaga, Avda. Dr. Marañón, 48.
