Wilhelm Breidenbach has found a new home
After spending two seasons with the Washington Huskies
he will reportedly transfer to Grand Canyon University and play for coach Bryce Drew for his final season of eligibility
The Antelopes have won the WAC Tournament and made the NCAA Tournament in four of the last five seasons
13 seed in the West region and lost to the Maryland Terrapins 81-49 in the first round in Seattle
who started 17 games during his senior season for coach Danny Sprinkle and averaged 4.5 points and 2.4 rebounds per game
gives the Antelopes an experienced big man after he was able to earn an extra year of eligibility by way of a medical redshirt
After playing just 10 games during his freshman year with the Nebraska Cornhuskers
With the product of Mater Dei High School's departure
Sprinkle has added Jacob Ognacevic from Lipscomb
and Rutgers center Lathan Sommerville to bolster his frontcourt for the 2025-26 season
The 6-foot-10 forward also became the third of seven members of last year's team to enter the transfer portal to find a new home
and Dominique Diomande made the move to BYU
Illinois. He was born in 1939 in Webster Groves
Louis suburb. Paul is remembered as a brilliant and creative teacher
dobro musician and Associate Professor of Anthropology at Loyola University Chicago.
Following high school Paul joined the Christian Brothers
a Catholic religious order devoted to the poor and education. After earning his BA at St
he began his career by teaching history in Chicago high schools. In 1969 he left the Christian Brothers to study anthropology at Northwestern University earning his Master’s degree (1969) and his Doctorate (1973) under the mentorship of Johannes Fabian
In 1972 Paul joined the faculty of Loyola University Chicago
where he remained until his retirement in 2009. Paul’s fieldwork was among a Christian Healing Movement in Ghana
where he later returned to make an ethnographic film. He published in various journals including
The Journal of the International African Institute; Journal of Religion in Africa; Listening: Journal of Religion and Culture; African Arts; and International Journal of African Historical Studies
His work also appears in a special issue of Journal of Social Research on Religious Movements as Discourse (edited by Johannes Fabian) and in The New Religions of Africa (edited by Benetta Jules-Rossette). Paul subsequently developed interests in media and culture
and turned his ethnographic expertise to video games
publishing with colleagues Talmadge Wright and Eric Boria in Game Studies: The International Journal of Computer Game Research
Paul was a charismatic teacher and inspiring mentor: he entranced generations of students with his dramatic
creative lectures and his enthusiasm for anthropology. Especially memorable were his first sessions of Introduction to Cultural Anthropology: he violated cultural norms by entering class wearing his shoe on his head and ending class by inviting students to lunch at the local “Kentucky Fried Dog.” He also taught graduate and upper division classes on specialized topics
including Visual Representations of Culture and History of Anthropological Thought (where he captivated students with energetic impersonations of Franz Boas as anthropology’s “gladiator” against scientific racism)
Through his classes he recruited majors and left indelible marks on many lives.
Paul’s additional passions included Baroque music (especially Handel’s operas)
and his Roger’s Park neighborhood coffee house

former University of Washington forward Wilhelm Breidenbach will take his game to Grand Canyon University while seeking a more prominent role to finish up his college basketball career
232-pound Breidenbach left the Huskies for the transfer portal after two seasons in Montlake in which he started 26 games in 62 outings
giving him three seasons in the Big Ten and another in the Pac-12
He started two of 42 games for the Cornhuskers
He'll join a Grand Canyon basketball team that finished 26-8 this past season after winning the WAC Tournament and advancing to the NCAA Tournament and a first-round loss to Maryland
Breidenbach hasn't seen the last of Seattle
with his new team taking an annual trip to the city to face Seattle University
GCU has secured a commitment from Wilhelm Breidenbach. Started his career at Nebraska, then played a few years at University of Washington. More of a stretch the floor big guy. But GCU lands their first big guy of the portal cycle! pic.twitter.com/BQ9OcQRNbS
Breidenbach will bring 104 games of college experience to his Arizona team
with career averages of 5.9 points and 3.7 rebounds an outing
he had high games of 15 points against Utah and 10 rebounds against Stanford
this California native is a sound player who can shoot the 3-pointer
as well as put up an assortment of one-handed shots in the key
He's tough enough to have suffered a concussion while battling for a loose ball and sitting out the following UW game to recover
Breidenbach opened and finished this past basketball season as a reserve player for Danny Sprinkle's team
but the Huskies turned to him as a starter for 13 consecutive games in the middle of the schedule

Washington forward Wilhelm Breidenbach has entered the NCAA Transfer Portal
2.4 rebounds and 0.4 assists for the Huskies during the 2024-25 season
Breidenbach played high school basketball at Mater Dei (Santa Ana, CA), where he was a three-star prospect. He was the No. 109 overall recruit in the 2020 cycle, according to the On3 Industry Ranking
a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies
Prior to his two seasons with Washington, Breidenbach played two years with Nebraska
He appeared in 42 games total for the Cornhuskers
averaging 3.6 points during the 2022-23 season for the Big Ten program
Time will tell where Wilhelm Breidenbach ends up playing his college basketball next season
and make a major impact during the 2025-26 season
Meanwhile, Washington Huskies small forward Dominique Diomande has also entered the Transfer Portal, On3’s Jamie Shaw learned. This comes after he redshirted the 2024-25 season as a freshman.

Diomande came to Washington as a bit of a surprise recruiting win
France as his hometown is considered a future NBA prospect
He played in 26 games for ADA Blois of the France-ProA U21 league where he averaged 16.0 points
He would join the Washington program in January as a walk-on. At the time, it was a surprise boost for the Huskies. However, he never ended up seeing the court before deciding to move on from the program and look for a new team. Prior to that decision to redshirt, Washington head coach Danny Sprinkle debated whether or not to play him
The 2024-25 season was a year of transition for Washington
it was also a frustrating one on the court
The Huskies made the move to the Big Ten and brought in Danny Sprinkle to be the team’s new head coach
Despite Sprinkle leading Montana State in his final two seasons there and Utah State in his only season there to the NCAA Tournament, the Huskies struggled going 13-18 overall and 4-16 in Big Ten play. That was last place in the conference regular season standings.

WEDDING ISSUE
Forward Wilhelm Breidenbach became the latest member of coach Danny Sprinkle's first Washington Huskies roster to enter the NCAA transfer portal on Monday afternoon
The announcement comes as the 6-foot-10 big man from Rancho Santa Margarita
concludes his two-year stint with the Huskies
but will now have his career extended by a medical redshirt as a graduate transfer
Breidenbach joined Washington in 2023 after two years with the Nebraska Cornhuskers
where he averaged 3.6 points and 2.7 rebounds across 42 games
A former four-star recruit from Mater Dei High School
he arrived in Lincoln with promise but suffered a season-ending knee injury after playing in 10 games as a freshman
Transferring to Washington offered a fresh start under then head coach Mike Hopkins
and Breidenbach took on a rotational role over two seasons in Seattle
he started 17 games and averaged 4.5 points and 2.4 rebounds per contest
Breidenbach brought size and versatility to the Huskies’ depleted front
converting on 37 percent of his long-range attempts during his senior year
His time at Washington saw a flux in Washington’s program with Hopkins’ exit and Sprinkle’s arrival
Breidenbach’s exit is part of a broader exodus of talent this offseason
as the Huskies navigate the transfer portal era under Sprinkle’s leadership
The team has already seen five players hit the portal: guards Jase Butler and Mekhi Mason
forwards Christian King and Dominique Diomande
Breidenbach’s departure leaves a gap in the front as Sprinkle turns to the transfer portal to add at least two big men to bolster his depth in the frontcourt
Envision the Hollywood movie chronicling that era being called Breidenbach rather than Oppenheimer
232-pound forward from Rancho Santa Margarita
spent the last two years with the University of Washington basketball team as a visible starter at times when a role coming off the bench might have been a better fit
though he couldn't prevent this past season's Huskies (13-18 overall
4-16 conference) from finishing in last place in the Big Ten

Breidenbach was pegged for a support piece at the UW
but he was thrust into a much more demanding job by two different Husky coaching staffs largely because teammate Franck Kepnang couldn't stay healthy long for either leader
While he wasn't necessarily the most athletic player on the floor
Breidenbach did things properly motivated for first-year coach Danny Sprinkle that the latter wanted from all of his players
"Everyone sees him doing the right stuff," Sprinkle said
taking the charge and playing the right way
The downside was Breidenbach couldn't maintain high production levels the more he had to play
While starting 17 of 30 outings this winter
he averaged just 4.5 points and 2.4 rebounds per game
with a high of 10 points against UC Davis and NJIT

Breidenbach came to the UW for what turned out to be Mike Hopkins' final season as coach in 2023-24 and he stuck around to play for Sprinkle's first team

started 26 of 62 games and averaged 4.9 points and 2.9 rebounds while in Montlake

Breidenbach recently went through Senior Day activities at the UW and it was presumed he was done with college ball
he played in only 10 games as a freshman at Nebraska before suffering a season-ending injury and he's petitioning to get that year back
players can't pursue eligibility questions with the NCAA until their current seasons are over
which explains why Breidenbach treated his last Husky game as if he was graduating
The Huskies have had 11 of their top 14 players depart either as transfers or grads
with freshman guard Zoom Diallo and senior center Franck Kepnang the only ones signing to come back while sophomore forward Tyler Harris' situation remains unknown
three from the high school level and another from junior college
but might need as many as nine more from the transfer portal to fill up the 15 UW scholarships he can now offer
GRAND FORKS – Grand Forks Red River’s Kolby Koerner stayed in contention down to the wire
but it was West Fargo Sheyenne’s Quinn Breidenbach who rolled to a Grand Forks All-City crown with a plus-2 146 Monday and Tuesday at the first junior All-City tournament at King’s Walk and Grand Forks Country Club
It started during a sloppy day at the Country Club where Breidenbach knocked down seven birdies and seemed to be pulling away quickly
I just wanted to focus on playing my game and I did what I needed to do,” Breidenbach said
A swing happened at the very end of the day Monday
as a double-bogey seven and bogey five on the final two holes brought him back down to a 70 and put Koerner in line for a potential race on Tuesday
Koerner finished Monday with a tight 72 where he battled back from tough holes by finishing out birdie putts and keeping an even scorecard
He even jumped to a tie for the lead with Breidenbach early on Tuesday after sitting -1 through 10 when the Sheyenne golfer bogeyed Holes 1
“It’s definitely kept my game in tune and I love to compete with these guys out here
It’s a packed field and today scores were high but still a lot of great players,” Koerner said
Koerner has managed to be near the top of the leaderboard during summer tournaments such as the All-City and Russ Newman
his quad-bogey eight on Hole 15 would be his downfall
but he would still bounce back for a near eagle on 17 after he drove the green
Breidenbach responded with a birdie of his own on 17 and would hold on for a 76 on the day
As the junior All-City gets introduced to Grand Forks
Eastern Dakota Conference golfers like Breidenbach and Koerner are grateful for the opportunity to participate in these tournaments that are now much closer to home
“This is probably the best tourney of the year,” Breidenbach said
“It’s only $30 to $60 to play this event and the top players get good voucher money
Stetson Brown won the 13-15 Boys Division and Ella Speidel won the 16-18 Girls Division
Brown’s 149 was nine strokes ahead of Fargo North’s Carl DeBoer
He took some more chances at King’s Walk with poor conditions and still came away with four birdies and a 74
Speidel squeaked out a win over Sheyenne’s Zoe Keene and teammates Sophie Brakke and Lauren Soholt
Monday saw her hit just one double-bogey but she rectified it by getting on the green and converting the eagle on Hole 17
Birdies on 15 and 17 solidified her top position on Tuesday and she carded a final 156 over Keene’s 157
Koerner's teammates Silas Dusenbury and Carter Olson were not far behind him
Olson tied for fourth with a 151 and Dusenbury came in eighth with a 157
Finishing up our in-depth preview of the Husky roster with the centers
We’ve reached the end of our player preview series with the final 4 scholarship players on the roster
All four of these players could see some time at center this season but we’ll see how well they fit alongside expected star Great Osobor who we talked about in the last preview
Breidenbach graduated from Mike Hopkins’ high school alma mater of Mater Dei in California where he averaged 16 points and 8 rebounds and was the 105th rated recruit in the country
He ultimately committed to Nebraska over offers from Cal and USC
There was early playing time available as a true freshman and Breidenbach averaged nearly 16 minutes per game as a key reserve before suffering a leg injury in early December and missing the rest of the year
As a sophomore he came back for the start of the season but didn’t see much progress in his role
He appeared in every game getting between 3 and 22 minutes
After the season he opted to transfer and committed to Washington
The Huskies managed to get the best out of Breidenbach on the offensive end as he set career highs from every area of the floor and managed to finish 2nd in Pac-12 play in two-point percentage
Breidenbach is nominally a stretch 4 but he hasn’t always lived up to that billing
He’s still only a 25% three-point shooter for his career despite making a career best last season
That was helped by a hot start in non-conference play before Breidenbach reverted right back to 24.1% during the Pac-12 schedule
The good news is his free throw percentage has gone from 50% to 61% to 70% during his college career so the shooting improvement has carried over to free throws at the very least
Where Breidenbach made major strides last season was as an interior scorer
He has an absolutely beautiful pump fake on his outside jump shot and time and again opposing centers would lunge out to contest a Breidenbach 3-pointer only for him to drive right past for a layup
Between the goggles and the beard it looks like Breidenbach should be clumsy but he has a deft touch around the basket even though he isn’t dunk-happy which led him to shoot over 70% on two-point shots
It feels like that career high likely isn’t sustainable but his career average of 58% seems reasonable moving forward
Last season the Huskies ended up playing Breidenbach a lot at center which helped his offensive output
Those pump fake and drives have a lot more space when playing in a 5-out offense with Breidenbach at center
If he has to play power forward then those driving lanes aren’t there and there’s no way he’s going to dribble by players in traffic
The problem with that is that then you have to play Breidenbach as a center on defense as well
His points per possession defensive numbers actually looked okay last season but the team was clearly worse on defense as a whole with him in the game
At 6’10 without super long arms or elite athleticism
Breidenbach has the body of a power forward and that becomes evident when he is matched up with a skilled center
He knows he isn’t likely to get a ton of blocks so he doesn’t lunge and get out of position but also just doesn’t have the physical gifts to contest most shots
While Breidenbach isn’t going to block a ton of shots
he’s an okay rebounder and has put up almost identical rebounding rates over the past two years
Both are below what you’d ideally want from a starting center but are perfectly serviceable for a power forward
It’s clear the focal point of this Husky team is going to be Great Osobor
He’s their best player and putting lineups around him that make him successful are going to be prioritized
That might be a good thing for Breidenbach as he’s the only other one of the four bigs who are part of this preview who has shown at least some history of reliably making a three-point shot
That means a theoretical lineup with Osobor and Breidenbach playing next to each other might be a good fit on offense at times
But Breidenbach doesn’t provide the rim protection next to Osobor that you’d like and which he enjoyed playing alongside a 7-footer stretch 5 last year
That should mean that Wilhelm gets to be a part of the rotation but I’m not convinced that he is going to be getting much more than 10 minutes per game and it’s not impossible that he falls out of the rotation
2024-25 Projected Per Game Stats: 12.4 mins
He was an unrated recruit coming out of high school in Naperville
Illinois in the class of 2020 although he had a reported offer from Big East bottom feeder DePaul
The 6’9 Conway though chose to go to Oakland (in Michigan) where he didn’t see much of the court his first two seasons
In his junior season Conway broke through in the rotation as Oakland’s backup center
He led the Horizon league in offensive rating and FG% during conference play at 135.2 and 74.2% respectively
He averaged 4.5 points and 2.7 rebounds per game in just over 15 minutes per contest while starting 7 games
This past season though was Conway’s best yet as he started every game he appeared in (missed 1 due to injury) while playing 27 minutes per game
he set career highs per game in every category after nearly doubling his minutes but his efficiency came down a little bit
Conway had only attempted two career three-pointers before this season (missing both) before going 3/14 from deep this year as he tried to extend his range a little bit
Conway was the starting center for Oakland this season on a team where he was the only rotation player taller than 6’6
His 11.7% defensive rebounding rate was in between Moses Wood and Paul Mulcahy on Washington last season
He has had a block rate of about 3.0% the last two seasons which is a solid mark for a power forward but below average for a starting center even at the mid-major level
If Conway does play his minutes as a PF then that lack of premier rim protection won’t be as big of an issue since both Kepnang and Ibekwe are exceptional shot blockers
The points per possession data backs up the assertion that defense isn’t Conway’s forte
This past year he ranked in the 26th percentile giving up 0.952 points per possession when the primary defender per Synergy Sports
It’s worth noting though that those figures can be a bit volatile and he ranked above average the previous season although in half as many minutes for a smaller sample size
Opponents shot 40% against Conway last season in spot up situations and 53% when posting up Conway
Conway’s primary talents lie on the offensive end where he’s an efficient post scorer
He ranked in the 86th percentile last year on post-ups where he shot 57% and that represented almost half of his possessions
Oakland loved to spread the floor and then dump it down low to Conway in a 1-on-1 matchup where Conway was adept at putting the ball in the basket
Conway loves the jump hook slightly falling away from the basket and has very soft touch from 5 feet away
It’s never the first thing you look at for a big man but Conway’s value on offense isn’t just his high field goal percentage
Despite showing off a variety of post moves
His turnover rate last year of 10.7% is about what you normally expect to see from 3-point specialists who never dribble the ball
that figure is almost identical to the one of Moses Wood last year who did almost nothing but shoot threes
But Conway’s assist rate of almost 10% would’ve been 5th on the Huskies last year only behind the 4 primary ball handlers of KJ
Oakland played 8 games against teams that at least made the NIT last season including a pair of games in the NCAA tournament
In those 8 contests Conway averaged 9.1 points
and 0.4 blocks on 59% 2-pt shooting and 63% FT shooting
Numbers fairly comparable to his overall season totals so he didn’t pad his stats with a couple 30-point games against sub-300 opponents
Perhaps no player saw their projected playing time for this season go down more based on the addition of Great Osobor than Conway
The two have remarkably similar playing styles but it’s clearly the case that Osobor is just better than Conway in essentially every category
He’s a very skilled offensive player who can thrive in the right situation
This just doesn’t seem like a roster built to take advantage of his skillset with 3 other post scorers on the roster and point guards who are better driving the ball than shooting it themselves
There are configurations of the rotation that could see Conway playing 10-15 minutes per game but with 13 scholarship players around
it means that at least 4 of them are likely going to fall out of the rotation by conference play and I think Conway ends up missing out and only appears in about half the games
2024-25 Projected Per Game Stats: 10.0 mins
Coming out of high school Kepnang was a borderline 5-star recruit in the class of 2021
Oregon however was looking for more depth at center and got Kepnang to commit and reclassify in order to join the team for the start of winter quarter
Kepnang’s block rate as a freshman would’ve led the conference had he played enough minutes to qualify but he averaged 6.1 fouls per 40 minutes
In his sophomore year Kepnang started a few games while N’Faly Dante was injured and got up to 15 minutes per game of playing time
He started to branch out a little more on offense which saw his field goal percentage drop but averaged almost 5 points and over 1 block per game
The rotation at Oregon though got very crowded with Dante
and 5-star Kel’el Ware coming in so Kepnang transferred to Washington
Franck ultimately lost a starting spot battle to Braxton Meah once at Washington but still was averaging more minutes per game than Meah early on as a junior. He was on his way to career highs in every statistical category. Then he fell awkwardly in a narrow loss at Oregon State and suffered a torn ACL
Kepnang eased back into things last year coming off the injury and averaged just over 10 mpg through the first 3 contests
Hopkins gave him back the starting job and after a few more games of warming up
Kepnang won back-to-back Game MVPs from KenPom averaging 15 points
and 4 blocks per game in wins over Montana State and Gonzaga
Kepnang re-injured his knee and ended up missing the entire season while only recently returning to practice
Franck the Tank came by that nickname honestly as he has a clear NBA body
At 6’11 and 250 pounds he looks chiseled and has showed off premium athleticism
It was somewhat perplexing then that Kepnang really struggled to rebound the ball during his time at Oregon
His defensive rebounding rate of 8.5% and 15.2% were more fitting of a 6’6 wing than a muscular nearly 7-footer
That got better while playing at Washington going from 18% as a junior to 21.9% last season
Kepnang has seen similar growth with his offensive rebounding going from 8.6% to 8.6% to 12.4% to 13.0% over his career
One thing that hasn’t really changed over Kepnang’s career is that he’s a tremendous shot blocker
Franck’s block rate has been at least 8.4% during every season of his career
Last year that would’ve been good for 40th nationally among qualified players and 11th among players in the Power 6
he’s one of the best shot blockers in the country
Kepnang has also never averaged fewer than 5.9 fouls per 40 minutes
Even if he were fully healthy that means Kepnang would average fouling out of a game in just 34 minutes played
Combine that with the injuries and it’s just not possible to rely on him to always be on the court
Kepnang’s much more effective on the defensive side of the court but he still does provide offensive value
You won’t see Kepnang taking a bunch of (or any) three-pointers but he is capable of stepping out to the baseline and hitting a 12-15 foot jumper if necessary
Considering his level of physicality on defense
it’s a little surprising that Kepnang often chooses to go for hook shots instead of dunking it with authority
Not that he never does that but it doesn’t happen as often as you might think
You aren’t going to see much in the way of passing from Franck
If he gets the ball in the post then he’s going to try to score it
The good news is he has never had more than 2 turnovers in a game at Washington and shoots nearly 60% from the field so getting the ball to him near the hoop usually results in good things happening
Injuries continue to be the big issue for Franck
He has never played more than 37% of a team’s minutes in a season and has now had consecutive years failing to make it more than 10 games before knee issues cut short his year
If fully healthy then Franck is clearly one of the 3 best players on this team and would easily average 20+ minutes per game as the starting center alongside Great Osobor even if their fit on offense isn’t ideal
But unfortunately the smart money isn’t on that happening
Any moments that the Huskies have Kepnang on the floor this year have to be considered a bonus
2024-25 Projected Per Game Stats: 20.0 mins
Ibekwe was an unrated recruit coming out of British Columbia and didn’t even have a 247 profile set up for him
he played for the Canadian U18 team and averaged a dominant 29 points
Ibekwe appeared in 20 games as a freshman at Oregon State but played under 10 minutes per game and averaged fewer than 3 points and rebounds per game
He saw his role increase as a sophomore when he started 22 games and showed he could be a premium shot blocker
Ibekwe is an absolute load that is nearly impossible for opponents to move in the paint
Given Ibekwe’s size it shouldn’t be surprising that he has a lot of both positive and negative attributes on the court
His offensive game made big strides in his second year in college as he went from shooting 40.4% to 52.8% from the field while taking nearly 3x as many shots
That takes him from being an abysmal finisher to merely a below average one
One more leap of nearly that size would turn in him into a genuine asset scoring the ball
As might be expected for someone closer to 300 than 200 pounds
The problem is that he is a very bad free throw shooter having made between 42-44% from the charity stripe each of his two seasons at OSU
That has the effect of opponents being very willing to put Ibekwe at the line rather than concede buckets and makes it impossible for him to play at the end of close games in case the opponent goes hack-a-Ibekwe
Combine that with a very low assist rate and a very high turnover rate and it’s clear that Ibekwe has been a net negative on the offensive end so far in his career
The one place on that end where he provides real value is on the offensive glass where his 11% offensive rebounding rate was 153rd in the country
That means that you’re bringing in Ibekwe primarily for his defense and rim protection
Ibekwe had a block rate of 13% which would’ve been 3rd in the country had he played enough minutes to qualify
That number went down with increased playing time last year but even at 7.7% it was still 50th in the country
The last time that Washington had someone play at least 30% of the team’s minutes and end up with a block rate over 7% was also the last time UW made the NCAA tournament when Matisse Thybulle and Hameir Wright both did it
Franck Kepnang was at 9% this past year before his injury
Ibekwe certainly didn’t transfer to Washington because of his history of playing well against the Huskies
In 2 starts against UW last season he averaged 2 points
things will change now that he’ll be in purple and gold
We saw rapid growth for Ibekwe between his freshman and sophomore years and Coach Sprinkle is hoping it will only continue
There are some centers who you hope will eventually develop a three-point shot but that’s a complete non-starter with Ibekwe
He is and always will be a center who can only play in the paint
That doesn’t make him an ideal fit with Great Osobor which is likely going to be the primary driver of playing time for the rest of UW’s bigs this season
But he has another year of eligibility left after this year and should have a chance to compete to be the starting center in 2025
Washington only has two shot blockers on the roster right now and Franck Kepnang hasn’t been able to stay healthy
If he Franck does manage it this year then I don’t see a way for Ibekwe to see a lot of the court
In games when Kepnang isn’t available though I could easily see Ibekwe playing 15-20 minutes per game to be a rebounding/shot blocking presence whenever Osobor is off the court
2024-25 Projected Per Game Stats: 18.8 mins
The automotive supplier ZF is undoubtedly in a state of transition
is stepping down early despite his contract running until 2028
A successor has already been appointed: former Hella boss Rolf Breidenbach will assume the position
the Board of Directors decided on the change and immediately elected 62-year-old Breidenbach as the new chairman
Former Thyssenkrupp CEO Heinrich Hiesinger (64) was thus only the Chairman of the Board of Directors of ZF for three years
The change at the top of the Board of Directors thus comes at a critical time for the German company
The group is looking for partners for some of its divisions
Breidenbach has been a member of the ZF Board of Directors since 2023
so he is familiar with the challenges facing the company
And it is precisely these challenges that are apparently behind the change: Hiesinger already stated internally that
he would not be available for a second term after March 2028
Since not all of the major strategic decisions for ZF will have been implemented by then
Hiesinger is said to have offered to vacate the position early to avoid a change in the chairmanship of the Supervisory Board in the decisive phase in 2028
reports also criticise Hiesinger’s performance in office
saying that he did not put enough pressure on the Board of Management in critical situations
“After careful consideration and in close consultation
have accepted the offer,” says Simon Blümcke
“We are very grateful to Dr Hiesinger for the opportunity to hand over the leadership of the supervisory board at an early stage.” And: “The members of the supervisory board thank Dr Hiesinger for his outstanding work and achievements as chairman of the supervisory and controlling body.”
The German Handelsblatt views Breidenbach’s appointment as the “first major decision of Friedrichshafen’s new mayor.” The independent politician has a great deal of influence at ZF through the Zeppelin Foundation
the Breidenbach appointment is also a sensitive one: the mechanical engineer previously worked for the management consultancy McKinsey – just like ZF CEO Holger Klein
And McKinsey currently advises ZF on its planned billion-euro savings programme
While it is still unclear whether and how McKinsey’s past will influence Breidenbach’s term at ZF
it is already clear who is to take over Heinrich Hiesinger’s supervisory board mandate: Ingrid Jägering will be elected to the board at the next annual general meeting
She is currently responsible for finance and IT at the Stihl Group in Waiblingen

Replacing Hiesinger on the board will be Ingrid Jägering
In a key leadership transition, the Supervisory Board of ZF Friedrichshafen AG has elected Dr Rolf Breidenbach as its new Chairman
The decision marks a strategic move to ensure long-term leadership continuity as ZF continues its transformation within the evolving automotive landscape
a seasoned automotive industry expert and former CEO of Hella GmbH & Co
has been a member of ZF’s Supervisory Board since March 2023
“Dr Breidenbach brings a wealth of experience from the global automotive sector and is exceptionally well-positioned to guide ZF through its ongoing transformation,” said Simon Blümcke
Lord Mayor of Friedrichshafen and representative of the Zeppelin Foundation
which holds a 93.8% stake in ZF Friedrichshafen AG
Breidenbach holds a doctorate in mechanical engineering from RWTH Aachen University
and has held senior roles in consultancy and automotive manufacturing
including a long stint at McKinsey & Company
was praised for his strong leadership during challenging times
helping steer ZF with strategic insight and stability
He had earlier indicated that he would not seek a second term ending in 2028 due to personal plans
and proactively offered to step down early to enable a smoother transition at a crucial time for the company
“We are deeply grateful to Dr Hiesinger for his outstanding contribution and leadership,” said Blümcke
“His early decision to pass the baton ensures continuity and stability as ZF pursues key transformation initiatives.”
She is expected to be formally elected to the board at the upcoming General Meeting of ZF Friedrichshafen AG
Jägering brings with her over three decades of experience in top industrial and financial roles at leading companies including Siemens
“With her extensive industry and financial expertise
Ingrid Jägering will be a valuable addition to the board during these transformative times,” said Dr Breidenbach
“We look forward to her insights and collaboration.”

the Cougars couldn't stop the misery and dropped a basketball game to rival Washington
the best way to put it was WSU was subjected to a lost 24 hours and the Huskies were not in comforting mood whatsoever at Alaska Airlines Arena and pulled away in the second half for a 89-73 victory on Wednesday night
first-year coch Danny Sprinkle and his mostly new UW basketball players got a chance to see what the atmosphere felt like when their arena is nearly full and rocking with energy from start to finish
It helped that plenty of Cougars fans filled the seats
"It kind of surprised me how many Washington State people were in here," guard Tyree Ihenacho said
of our fans cheering for us and their fans booing us
I'm glad the way we responded to it."
Play was noticeably physical with both teams regularly attacking the hoop and players getting bumped hard and sent crashing to the floor as they made their way through the key
using a 14-4 run to open the second half for a 49-35 advantage and decide this one
WSU (9-3) had a three-game win streak come to an end
"I just like the grit and effort that we had -- like we scrapped," Sprinkle said
"We've been talking about synergy and I didn't feel like we had been connected yet this year."
Emotions reached an apex when the Cougars' Isaiah Watts -- son of former Husky Donald Watts -- went in for a thunderous dunk with 16:40 left to play and his team trailing 44-35
and then got in Great Osobor's face to tell him about it
Watts drew a technical foul for his outburst
Here's how crazy this one was: WSU enjoyed a 42-23 in rebounds and still lost
A closely played first half turned into a scoring battle at times between a new Husky guard and an old one
The UW finally took the lid off long-range shooter DJ Davis
who started the game and dropped in 11 first-half points of his team-high and season-best 21
His 3-pointer from the right side with 5:37 left pulled the Huskies into a 25-all tie after they had trailed much of the opening half
He shot 4-for-10 from the field and 3-for-7 in treys
"This was the most together we've been probably all season," Davis said
"Cheering for each other and playing for one another."
the 2023 Southland Conference Freshman of the Year for Lamar but relegated to the bench last season by previous Husky coach Mike Hopkins
responded with 8 points in the opening 20 minutes
though he was far from pinpoint in missing all four of his first-half 3-pointers
He finished with a game-high 21 points on 8-for-18 shooting
A ceiling view of the UW-WSU basketball game
with Zoom Diallo ready to make a move on the Cougars' LeJuan Watts
/ Skylar Lin Visuals With 3:08 before intermission
play turned so rough that the UW's 6-foot-10 Wilhelm Breidenbach and the Cougars' 6-foot-11 Dane Erikstrup got tangled up under the west-end basket
and together they went crashing hard to the floor
Both players lay on their backs for a long time while trainers attended to them
who was whistled for his third foul on the play
Breidenbach was helped up and gingerly walked straight to the locker room
holding an ice pack pressed to the left side of his head
though WSU's Elhan Price scored right before the buzzer to keep his team hopeful
Twenty minutes of players talking trash and getting knocked to the floor remained
At least the Cougars didn't have much of anything left to lose anywhere in their athletic department
The Huskies finished with six players in double figures
caused 22 turnovers and shot 10 of 21 from behind the 3-point line
it was the best we've played," Sprinkle said
"The game is so much easier when you're making shots."
the UW will return to action with a Monday night home game against Seattle University (4-7)
Drivers in Cicero should expect I-81 to be reduced to two lanes from March until November
according to the state Department of Transportation
drivers have three lanes to use on each side of the highway between the interchange with Interstate 481 and the Taft Road/North Syracuse exit (28)
There will be a new traffic pattern to watch: One southbound lane will cross over to the northbound lane with a concrete barrier in between
The zone is necessary to allow construction crews to demolish the Church Street bridge over I-81 southbound
The work is part of the $2.25 billion project to tear down the I-81 overpass in Syracuse
the state is building up I-481 to handle more traffic when the elevated highway is removed
