From its early days as a 700-meter long quay in the 1960s
the Port of Bremerhaven in Northern Germany has expanded to become the fourth largest container terminal in Europe
with nearly five kilometres of quays and 14 berths for mega-container vessels
Maersk has also contributed to the port's growth
leveraging its short and fast intermodal transport routes to benefit many hundreds of customers
Now with a new full service warehouse uniquely positioned 23 kilometres away from the marine terminal
Maersk can optimise the flow of import and export goods further
We can reduce overall logistics costs and bring down total transit time by bypassing steps in your current supply chain
for example by providing services such as consolidation and deconsolidation under one roof
The proposition is an attractive one for a wide range of customers: Bremerhaven Port is only 32 kilometres from the North Sea making it a natural gateway for goods entering Europe from Asia
Its vast European catchment area includes Scandinavia to the north
And it is well connected by rail and road (via the A27 autobahn to Germany's highway network) so that when goods leave the warehouse they are quickly en route to major European markets
the logistics of making that happen are already well established – we are the largest storage capacity provider for the port
and handle 53% of the total deep-sea throughput from Bremerhaven (1.1 million Forty-Foot Equivalent containers in 2020)
our new warehouse will mean an excellent new logistic option for their retail
with cargo delivered close to the terminal before vessel departure to reduce potential delays and port waiting time
One customer has already made significant cost-efficiencies by dividing the distribution of retail cargo that was solely imported through Rotterdam
uses the additional cost-efficiencies of import flows through Bremerhaven as a natural hub to the Nordics
Other customers will benefit from cargo being moved from Bremerhaven port to our warehouse
to reduce dependence on their own gateway warehouses
Cargo can be deconsolidated and consolidated by Maersk with cargo from other customer origins in our warehouse – before secure packing
This optimises your use of container space
There will also be customers who take advantage of our advanced warehousing services
with an under-one-roof solution where speed-to-market can be regulated
using the warehouse in Bremerhaven as a strategic fulfilment centre with optimised picking and packing
a complete knock-down (CKD) model for automotive parts
or for meeting the time-critical demands of different retail order lines
where it's vital to build an agile and resilient supply chain to ensure stock availability
Look into Maersk's new 76,580m2 warehouse from one of its 60+ dock doors and you'll see around 6,000m2 of additional mezzanine space
more than 80,000 pallet positions for efficient handling
solar panels and a heat pump-controlled environment
all aspects are tailored to achieve minimal CO2 emissions and streamline the transportation of goods
the frequency of trips can be reduced to and from the port
The total package allows Maersk to provide certification contributing to your sustainability goals
EU regulation and an environmentally friendly supply chain
you can be confident in our warehousing capabilities as part of a long term partnership
Having specialized Intermodal providers has great strengths however during handovers between ocean
warehousing and distribution a small problem can have a great knock-on effect and be costly
distribution and warehousing you benefit from a seamless end-to-end solution with fewer logistic service providers in the chain
control and visibility – and potential economies of scale
Our warehouse is located close to the Port of Bremerhaven and focused on intermodal transport which improves efficiency
with faster coastal connections than inland cities
and a gateway for clients to reach their customers and markets more efficiently
Add greater speed-to-market and predictability to your supply chain

An agreement between BLG Logistics and Cosco Shipping Car Carriers will make the German port of Bremerhaven a hub for Chinese vehicle and equipment imports to Europe
Following an agreement signed with state-owned Chinese shipping giant Cosco
BLG Logistics’ automotive terminal at the German port of Bremerhaven is to become a central port of entry for finished vehicles and high and heavy goods being shipped from China to Europe.
Cosco is aiming to make two vessel calls a month at Bremerhaven with vehicle and rolling equipment exports from China
Cosco Shipping Car Carriers is aiming to make at least two calls per month at BLG AutoTerminal Bremerhaven (ATB) with vehicles and equipment destined for Germany and for onward transhipment to Scandinavia
central and eastern Europe and the Baltic states
BLG said the service would enable Chinese companies wanting to export products from their plants in China to European dealerships to obtain end-to-end logistics solutions from a single source
global director of sales at BLG Automobile Logistics
said it is important for Bremerhaven to adapt to current market developments.
“This means that we have to take into account the changing requirements of our traditional customers and at the same time create efficient logistics solutions for new importers,” said Bantel
Being recognised by Cosco Shipping Car Carriers for its network advantages to Chinese manufacturers
In February Bantel told Automotive Logistics about its efforts to upgrade infrastructure and processes at Bremerhaven over the last 18 months to support an increase in the import of Chinese vehicles
which currently stood at 5% of overall volumes handled there
That included the creation of new off-dock terminal space and implementation of new processes for planning and capacity management
BLG handles around 1.5m finished vehicles a year through its Bremerhaven terminal
The logistics provider will announce its annual results at the end of April this year
“Going forward we expect to continue offering robust services for our existing customer base
but also to offer solutions to new customers such as Chinese OEMs and shipping companies that are launching their products and services on the European market,” said Bantel
Bremerhaven plays a crucial role as a port of entry into the European market
providing efficient logistics access to the German market
one of the most important sales markets for vehicle manufacturers
Vehicle volumes at the Greek port of Piraeus were down in CY2024 but the car terminal is preparing for increased trade from China
US tariffs on vehicle and parts imports are forecast to dent automotive sales by pushing prices up for consumers already facing tighter disposable income

President Trump signed executive actions giving automakers a break on some of his tariffs
the latest retreat from a get-tough policy he has said is aimed at bringing manufacturing jobs to America and driving up government revenues
The move comes as Trump traveled to Michigan for a rally marking his 100 days in office. Trump's on-again, off-again approach to tariffs have sparked whipsaw moves in financial markets
and most polls show Americans are concerned about Trump's handling of the economy
Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent told reporters that Trump had made the decision after meeting with domestic and foreign automakers
Trump's goal is to bring more auto manufacturing to the United States
"So we want to give the automakers a path to do that quickly
efficiently and create as many jobs as possible," he said
The move will ensure that the different types of tariffs charged by the administration don't stack up on imports of foreign cars
The Wall Street Journal first reported the shift on Monday
Importers of foreign auto parts will be able to get some reimbursement from the government for tariffs for the next two years
The break will both reward domestic manufacturers while "providing runway" to those needing time to invest in domestic plants
we didn't want to penalize them," Trump told reporters at the White House
Trump's 25% tariffs on steel and aluminum imports kicked in last month, hurting the auto industry
That was followed by a 25% tariff on imported cars
imported car parts will also be hit with a 25% tariff
(The tariff rules are different for cars imported from Mexico and Canada under the United States-Mexico-Canada Agreement.)
Automakers have complained the tariffs are too high, though the United Auto Workers has praised the auto tariffs because they say they will bring more manufacturing jobs back to the United States
The administration has also slapped 10% across-the-board tariffs on imports, but abruptly paused higher country-by-country rates for 90 days — except for Chinese goods
Bessent said that the administration had pinpointed "18 important trading relationships" for talks on tariffs
"We will be speaking to all of those partners
or at least 17 of them the over the next few weeks
Many of them have already come to Washington," Bessent said
South Korea and Japan had been substantive
Bessent declined to comment on whether the administration was talking to Beijing on tariffs
though he said the onus was on China to make a deal due to its reliance on the U.S
He also suggested that serious talks had not yet begun with the European Union
mentioning a digital services tax that some members had imposed on U.S
"They have some internal matters to decide before they can engage in an external negotiation," Bessent said

Raanta has two shutouts and allowed only one goal
The first goal came in the ninth minute, with Sami Vatanen centring from behind the net and Theodor Lennström tapping in the loose puck on the backhand
Bremerhaven got the game’s first powerplay with four minutes to play in the first period and had some great chances to tie it but Raanta and the Genève PK units stood tall. Just seconds after killing off the penalty, Markus Granlund got a breakaway for Genève and beat Maximilian Franzreb between the legs to make it 2-0
In the final minute of the opening period, Bremerhaven nearly got one back as Dominik Uher’s shot from the high slot looked labelled but Raanta robbed him with the glove
Six minutes into the second period, Genève were handed their first two powerplays of the night when Fabian Herrmann was called for both tripping and hooking on the same sequence
Vatanen put his team up 3-0 by sending a seeing-eye wrister from the point that sailed past a screened Franzreb
Midway through the third period, Genève looked to increase their lead on the powerplay but Miha Verlič intercepted a pass and skated in alone on Raanta
Bremerhaven killed off the penalty but with 7:18 to play, Genève went up 4-0 with Alessio Bertaggia converting the set-up by Marco Miranda.
These two teams are now headed back to where they began this CHL season, as Bremerhaven beat Genève 3-2 back on Game Day 1 of the Regular Season. However, a one-goal home-ice win won’t be enough for the Pinguins this time as they'll have four to make up.

The day kicked off splendidly for team Germany to the tune of a resounding victory over Slovakia in which the head coach Jeff MacLeod saw his team put on a 6-1 showing in front of a good 2,570 spectators in Bremerhaven
They say you should never change a winning team and that’s exactly how MacLeod went about his business
going with the exact line-up as in Thursday’s 3-0 victory over Austria
“I think the intensity and sacrifice of every single one of our players today made the big difference,” explained coach MacLeod
“We’re extremely happy about how our team went about its business in today’s game and how it’s simply improved in the days since we’ve been here
The process is moving in exactly the right direction
That’s exactly what we’ll be expecting of ourselves in tomorrow’s game against the Hungarians.“
It didn’t take long for a heavily cheered for Germany to get on the scoreboard
with Franzsiska Feldmeier winning an offensive zone face-off and immediately swiping the puck over to Jule Schiefer
who immediately diverted the puck into the net at 1:25 of the first period
Lara Kluge cleanly won an offensive zone faceoff back to the point where defender Charlott Schaffrath immediately sent the puck to the net and over goaltender Andrea Risianova
who was making her second consecutive start
Things didn’t get any better for Slovakia when Germany used the tail end of a power play to gain a 3-0 lead when Svenja Voigt tipped in a Ronja Hark slapshot from the right face-off circle
The goal fell at 5:48 of the first and ended up being the last of the period
If you thought Slovakia would use the second period to mount a fiercer attack
The team tightened up in the second period but didn’t manage to get one shot on goal
it took 3 more penalties and had to swallow goal number 4 for Germany when once again Voigt tipped the puck in the net at 8.24 of the period
this time after Carina Strobel had already tipped a Luisa Welcke slapshot
Slovakia came out of the gates in the third period clearly ready to give it another push and were successful in beating German goaltender Sandra Abstreiter for the first time in the tournament when captain Janka Hlinkova
who had scored the team’s only goal against Hungary
redirected a Lucia Haluskova shot-pass from the right point at 3:13 of the period
this would prove to be too little too late as Feldmeier scored at the 10:14 mark and then Lilli Welcke added a sixth tally at the 12:27 mark of the 3rd period
Slovakia’s Olympic possibilities are now off the table and Germany heads into the final gameday at the top of the standings
Abstreiter collected 18 saves in the victory
10 of which came in the third period alone
”The decisive factor today was that we capitalized on our chances at the beginning of the game
That helped us gain the momentum right from the beginning,” stated forward Feldmeier
the author of the team’s fifth goal and the player whose sly and astute assist on the first goal got the day off on the right track
“This is why we deserved this victory
we definitely loaded up on confidence today heading into tomorrow’s final contest
Having the fans behind us like that was just incredible and gave us so much support
We’ll use that as a building block for tomorrow as well.“
The second game of the day saw two teams knowing that neither could really afford to lose a point
And the Austrians showed up with great determination
After a number of chances and few shots on goal for both teams
an incredible lifter of a pass from assistant captain Antonia Matzka from one blueline to the other sent star and captain Anna Meixner in on a partial breakaway
putting the puck between the legs of Hungarian starter Selma Luggin
who nonetheless got a piece of the shot before it went in.
it gave Austria the mental advantage heading into the second
Hungary would however get things going in the second frame and got on the board at 3:15 of the second with a power play goal by Emma Kreizs
who pounced on a rebound of a Fanni Gasparic shot from the left face-off circle
defender Lotti Odnoga jumped on a turnover in the neutral zone and made her way straight to the net
Slightly hooked from behind as she tried to make a move
the puck nonetheless slid between goaltender Aniko Nemeth’s legs
Austrian defender Emma Mortl threw a shot on goal from the point and it made its way in
paving the way to a third period in which the two countries traded several top-flight chances
although Hungary definitely took over the pace of the game and led the shot count 13-4
The contest would require overtime and eventually give viewers what might have been the loveliest goal thus far
when 15-year-old Reka Hiezl was given a 3-on-3 pass near the offensive blueline by Franciska Kiss-Simon and proceeded to deke her way past two defenders and then the Austrian goaltender as well
even if it meant leaving a point on the table
“We obviously had a lot of pressure on us because we won yesterday and because we knew Austria was a really good team,” stated Hungarian forward Zsofia Pazmandi
“We wanted to leave everything on the ice but at the end it was kind of like a deja vu moment because we had experienced an overtime at the worlds
but this time it ended in our favor.”
it all comes down to the final game tomorrow evening at 6 pm

Pinguins Bremerhaven will clash with Skellefteå AIK in the Round of 16 as the two teams battle it out for a place in the Quarter-Finals across two back-to-back games
This match-up promises an intriguing clash between two well-prepared and familiar teams
both eager to progress further on their quest for the European Trophy
Both teams delivered strong performances in the Regular Season, with Pinguins Bremerhaven finishing in 11th place, while Skellefteå AIK climbed even higher to secure 6th.
They concluded the Regular Season with their close overtime loss to Skellefteå
making this Playoff rematch even more thrilling
demonstrating consistency and strength across the six-game first phase of Europe's biggest club ice hockey competition
as the teams recently met in their final Regular Season battle on Game Day 6
gaining the upper hand and leaving Bremerhaven scrambling to stay in the game
as their ticket to the Playoffs was still uncertain
Bremerhaven’s persistence shined through late in the third period when they finally levelled the score
netting two goals to push the game into overtime
Skellefteå capitalised on an extra-man advantage to secure victory
illustrating how tightly matched and unpredictable these teams can be
The Swedes had the upper hand throughout large portions of the game
mainly outplaying the Germans in shots taken on goal and physicality
while Bremerhaven had the upper hand in shots blocked (racking up a huge 20-6 advantage) and face-off wins
Home team Bremerhaven were also plagued with bad discipline
as they took more than seven penalties in this heated duel with Playoffs qualification on the line for them
For the up-and-coming DEL side, keep an eye on Žiga Jeglič, the Slovenian forward who ranked among the top five forwards in the Regular Season. Jeglič played an important role with two goals and seven assists, helping his team in their journey to the Playoffs. Skellefteå’s Andreas Johnson has also been in excellent form
tallying six goals and an assist across five games
adding firepower to the Swedish side’s offence
Both teams have shown resilience and skill in reaching the Playoffs
each facing their ups and downs but proving themselves worthy contenders
With everything on the line in this Round of 16 battle
we can look forward to an intense and closely contested showdown

Austria couldn’t find any way to gain a grip on Germany’s combination of skillful puck possession and strong board work over 60 minutes of play
The Austrians also couldn’t figure out a way to get any rubber past Germany’s star goaltender Sandra Abstreiter
who made 18 saves in leading Germany to the 2-0 shutout victory
host Germany ends the first day of the IIHF Group I Women’s Ice Hockey Final Olympic Qualification tournament in Bremerhaven tied with Hungary atop the table.
the game kicked off with both teams somewhat feeling each other out before Germany began pushing things offensively
taking a 14-5 lead in shots in the first period
This was also due in part to Austria taking three penalties and needing to maneuver through the waters of shorthanded life while staving off the favored Germans
It wasn’t until 3:03 of the second period when German forward Celine Haider was able to punch in the rebound after defender Tabea Botthof rifled a shot in from the right point
This got things going for a German attack that continued to have the upper hand in controlling the flow
it was often by pouncing on the odd error or miscue
forcing Abstreiter to maintain her focus with a sharp save despite droughts in action along the way.
Things remained close as the period carried on until Hamburg-born forward Emily Nix pulled the puck off the boards
using a Nicola Hadraschek pick to gain a better position in the slot before unleashing a monster of a backhand shot into the far
the Austrians were hard-pressed to mount any true pressure in the third period
only racking up five shots along the way
several of which came once Austrian goalie Selma Luggin was pulled for the extra skater in the final two minutes of play
The Germans had come out of the gate ready to close the door and even put up another 10 shots while keeping the puck on their sticks for longer stretches of the period.
the team stormed the ice with relief to celebrate the 2-0 victory
one that clearly meant a bit more after Austria had surprisingly defeated Germany 3-0 in the Olympic qualifier just four years prior
Germany will now have to start rooting for their neighbor to the south
The first game of this event saw favorite Hungary spend over half the game warding off a determined Slovak team
which had an 8-7 advantage in shots after the first period
Things got even hotter when captain Janka Hlinkova got Slovakia on the board at 11:17 of the second period
budding superstar Nela Lopusanova took a penalty for an illegal hit just eight seconds later and Hungary was able to capitalize on the power play thanks to an Alexandra Huszak shot
It took a very curious goal at 3:22 of the third period to give Hungary a lead they’d never relinquish
After Slovak netminder Andrea Risianova stopped a hard shot
a rebound attempt by Kinga Jokai-Szilagyi popped up high over Risianova and then dropped back down behind her and into the goal
the Slovak women went to work but couldn’t get anything to fly
With the Slovak goaltender pulled in the last minute of play
Hungarian captain Fanni Gasparics was able to slide in an empty-net tally to seal the deal.
Hungary now technically sees itself at the top of the standings with the most goals scored and the same differential as Germany

there was an overwhelming sense of tension and great excitement heading into today’s action in Bremerhaven
the final game of the tournament pit Germany against Hungary for a winner-takes-all final of the Group I Olympic Qualifying Games and the two teams came out of the gates scratching and clawing for every centimeter of ice
each clearly hesitant to make any crucial mistakes
Despite several golden opportunities along the way
goaltenders Sandra Abstreiter and Aniko Nemeth warded off 5 and 8 shots respectively in the first period
each keeping their teams track records clean
It wasn’t until a power play at the 7:03 mark of the second period that the ice would be broken when Lilli Welcke carried the puck from the top of the right face-off circle
and over the left side of the goal before slinging a shot past Nemeth’s right foot on the short side corner at the 7:39 mark
German defender Ronja Hark took a penalty for an illegal check and at the 8:49 mark
a wonderful tick-tack-toe play between Lotti Odnoga
and then eventually Mira Seregely saw Hungary tie things up after Seregely caught a laser of a pass
deked out a sliding Abstreiter from left to right
and potted a backhander in the lower right-hand corner of the net
The Germans stormed their net in victory while the Hungarians started jumping in celebration as they crowded around Taylor
After having initially recognized the goal
the team of referees huddled up and then eventually headed over to the statisticians' box to point out that the goal had taken place after the clock had run out
It’s a bit of a heated rivalry and both teams were here to win
I can’t say enough about our staff and our players
It’s amazing,” explained coach MacLeod shortly after the national anthem was played
and then ward off a heavy attack in this oh so important final match
Our leadership stepped up in the locker room and calmed everyone down for the third period,” MacLeod continued
we came together and asked for something from these players
And now they’ve given what we asked for.”
who was injured and missed out on the qualification tournament four years earlier
We got the things done that we had to get done
and I am so unbelievably proud of this team and that we did everything we needed to do to achieve this.”
The nature of the games Germany and Hungary have played for several years now had shown that this would be a tight one and likely low scoring
and it meant some cool heads and hopefully a pair of cool hands would be required to decide it
“We knew we’re the better team
We told ourselves that we just have to keep calm and do our thing
And that’s what we did,” said Luisa Welcke - author of the game-winner - confidently
“Making it to the Olympics has been a dream of mine since my childhood and I’m just plain ecstatic right now that we’ve done it and that this dream is going to come true.”
this victory equates to a further step in the development of its women’s program
for the past decade - and especially in recent months
“The entire team surrounding coach Jeff MacLeod has been working meticulously to face this incredible challenge and was optimally prepared to do so
we’re all the happier that this hard work has paid off and that we
were both physically and mentally ready for this situation
this is an important day that goes above and beyond the achievement of qualifying for the Olympics,” emphasized DEB sports director Christian Künast
a team that’ll surely relive and analyze those final moments of the game numerous times in the coming days
I’ve always said that this is a very special group of young ladies
of hockey players,” said head coach Pat Cortina
still visibly shaken by what took place in the final seconds of the event
“This is the type of game that could’ve gone either way
Germany’s Head of Women’s Hockey
You naturally want to be part of that - perhaps more than anything else
We didn’t get to be part of it in 2020 and now we’re absolutely ecstatic about being part of it next year
It’s a testament to the work we’ve done and the path we’re on
But we had incredible support tonight and there’s always that glimmer of hope and belief that a whole bunch of young ladies and girls in attendance and watching on television will be inspired to become part of the next wave of future Olympians
an aspect that will continue to motivate us this time next year as well.”
And then the next 12 months of concentrated work will begin in preparation for what this weekend was all about
Teams Austria and Slovakia battled for third place in the day’s early match
both having already been eliminated from qualification yesterday
Austria clearly let go of some frustration
skating and shooting its way to a convincing 8-2 victory
Defender Anika Fazokas (2-4-6) and forward Theresa Schafzahl (3-2-5) led the way with outstanding performances
which also saw finishing first and second overall in tournament scoring
both teams will be spectators during next winter’s Olympics
knowing that Germany was able to make this very event in Bremerhaven one of significant importance for its entire women’s ice hockey program

The Pinguins Bremerhaven trailed for a good portion of the game, but they kept getting their chances and eventually struck twice on a third-period powerplay, turning a 2-1 deficit into a 4-2 win over the Rouen Dragons
The two teams traded goals in the first minute and a half
then settled into more of a defensive battle
Bremerhaven struck first, just 27 seconds after the opening faceoff. Off the rush, Žiga Jeglič passed across to Felix Maegaard Scheel, whose wrister beat Oskari Setänen between the legs
Then Rouen tied it just over a minute later, and it was a brilliant individual effort by Tomas Simonson. After taking a long pass from Juho Tommila, the 21-year-old drove into the attacking zone down the left wing, then cut to the inside by putting a great move on the defenceman before beating Kristers Gudlevskis on a forehand deke
Bremerhaven had the better of the chances for the rest of the period, particularly on a couple of powerplays, and then got a penalty shot early in the second period when Tommila was called for hooking. On the penalty shot, Christian Wejse tried to go five-hole on Setänen
but this time the Finnish netminder closed the door
Jared Dmytriw had a great chance for Rouen in the 28th minute when he broke in alone but was denied by Gudlevskis. Dmytriw would give the Dragons the lead before the period was done, however. Driving to the net through traffic, Mattéo Perdrix found his stick for the short-side re-direct with 4:09 on the clock
Bremerhaven turned the game around by taking advantage of the CHL rules and scoring twice on the same powerplay
The tying goal was Nicholas B. Jensen teeing up a one-timer from the point by Jan Urbas
Then just 55 seconds later the Pinguins were in the lead
This time it was Jeglič carrying the puck into the zone
who went down low and passed in front to a trailing Wejse
but the Dragons had to suddenly change their style of play and try to open it up
and the Pinguins did a good job of protecting their lead
An empty-net goal by Urbas helped secure three crucial points in their pursuit of a Playoff berth

The German trade union Verdi aims to increase pressure on employers ahead of further wage negotiations by calling for all-day warning strikes among harbour workers in Hamburg and Bremerhaven
“the strike began as planned with the early shift at 6.30 a.m.,” said a spokesperson for the Verdi trade union
Verdi has announced full-day warning strikes in the port of Hamburg on Tuesday and Wednesday
The union has also called for full-shift warning strikes in Bremerhaven on Tuesday (9 July) and Wednesday (10 July)
starting with the second shift on Tuesday and ending with the first shift on Wednesday
Employees at the Port of Hamburg last walked off the job at the beginning of June to emphasise their demands for higher wages
The call for the work stoppage is explained by the fact that the Central Association of German Seaport Operators (ZDS) did not present a negotiable offer in the third round of negotiations
“We were still far apart in the third round of negotiations
The offer presented by the employers is not acceptable to us
especially with regard to the wage increases on offer,” said Verdi negotiator Maren Ulbrich
This Thursday (11 July) and Friday (12 July)
the fourth round of collective bargaining will take place in Bremen
There have already been strikes at the ports of Bremen
Verdi is demanding an increase in hourly wages of three euros with retroactive effect from 1 June 2024

it served in the fishing industry for decades

The current owner took over the WIKING and discovered that time had taken its toll

but with a clear goal: to restore the WIKING to its full glory and bring it back to the water

Anyone who has ever painted in 7 to 10 Beaufort winds from astern knows that the brush sometimes flies faster than the paint dries
