The first of 62 Airbus H145Ms ordered by the German Bundeswehr has completed its maiden flight at the manufacturer’s facility in Donauworth
paving the way for the first delivery before the end of the year
Announcing the news on X
Airbus Helicopters added that the first German military pilots have also begun training on their new helicopters
The order for 62 H145Ms — with options for a further 20 aircraft — was announced just nine months ago
and represents the largest every order for the military version of the type
Airbus Helicopters CEO Bruno Even referenced the “very ambitious” delivery schedule set by Germany
but the manufacturer now seems well placed to meet the requirement for first delivery this year
The last aircraft is set to be delivered in 2028
The German Army will receive 57 of the H145Ms
and will use it in a light attack role as part of a bridge solution to replace the German Army’s fleet of Tigers
The remaining aircraft will be used by the Luftwaffe’s special forces
The aircraft will be based at the International Helicopter Training Center in Bückeburg
The Bundeswehr already operates 16 H145M LUH special operations and eight H145 LUH search-and-rescue helicopters
Army employs almost 500 helicopters from the H145 family — the UH-72 Lakota.
