(“Koryx” or the "Company") (TSX-V: KRY) is pleased to announce that it has appointed Heye Daun as President and Chief Executive Officer (“CEO”) and Trevor Faber as Chief Operating Officer (“COO”)
Heye Daun will also retain his board position as Chairman and Pierre Léveillé steps down as President and remains on the Board as Executive Director
incoming President & CEO of Koryx Copper commented: “As Koryx has completed its private placement of $18M and being more than sufficiently financed to conduct Phase 2 of its drilling and study operations
I am honoured to be appointed President and CEO of the Company
which more accurately represents my day-to-day role of managing the Company
we are very pleased with the appointment of Trevor Faber as COO
Trevor is a highly experienced mining engineer and projects specialist with a wealth of experience especially in copper and base metals projects delivery in Africa

After investing a very significant amount of our own capital into Koryx earlier in 2024
and with the continued strong financial support from family members and close associates
Alan Friedman and I together with the rest of the Board and executive management
look forward to leading and implementing our vision for Koryx Copper
That vision is to demonstrate the technical and economic feasibility of the Haib Copper Project as the next great copper development asset in Africa
We plan to achieve this by financing the company
building a competent management team and then permitting and advancing the project to construction readiness in as short a timeframe as possible.”

The resource estimates described below are more fully disclosed in the Company's current technical report titled “NI 43-101 Technical Report – August 2024 Mineral Resource Estimate for the Haib Copper Project
The Report is available under the Company's profile on SEDAR+ at www.sedarplus.ca
is a Canadian copper development Company focused on advancing the 100% owned
Haib Copper Project in Namibia whilst also building a portfolio of copper exploration licenses in Zambia
Haib is a large and advanced (PEA-stage) copper/molybdenum porphyry deposit in southern Namibia with a long history of exploration and project development by multiple operators
More than 70,000m of drilling has been conducted at Haib since the 1970’s with significant exploration programs led by companies including Falconbridge (1964)
Teck remains a strategic and supportive shareholder
Mineralization at Haib is typical of a porphyry copper deposit
Porphyry copper deposits are a major global source of copper with the best-known examples being concentrated around the Pacific Rim
Haib is one of a few examples of a Paleoproterozoic porphyry copper deposit in the world and one of only two in southern Africa (both in Namibia)
the deposit has been subjected to multiple metamorphic and deformation events
but still retains many of the classic mineralization and alteration features typical of these deposits
The mineralization is dominantly chalcopyrite with minor bornite and chalcocite present and only minor secondary copper minerals at surface due to the arid environment
In addition to extensive drilling and metallurgical testing various technical studies have been completed at Haib to date
Haib has a current mineral resource of 414Mt @ 0.35% Cu for 1,459Mt of contained copper in the Indicated category and 345Mt @ 0.33% Cu for 1136Mt of contained copper in the Inferred category (0.25% Cu cut-off)

daughter of the late Arthur & Henrietta (Jacky) Beyer
1954 at Ebenezer Evangelical & Reformed Church in Chilton
Together they had four children before he preceded Rosemary in death on May 27
1961. Rosemary devoted every fiber of her life to the raising of her children and cherished each and every moment
Rosemary was employed with Schabach Photography Studio in Chilton where she used acrylic paints to colorize the black and white portraits taken by the photographer
Much of her professional career was working as the office clerk/receptionist for Dr
James Knauf in Chilton before working a few years with Chilton Metal Products and Aluminum Specialty (Foley) until her retirement
Rosemary was an excellent seamstress who fashioned clothing for her husband and her children and did alterations and sewing for those throughout the community
She tended to a large vegetable garden which produced a bountiful harvest in the fall with fresh produce to fill the dinner table as well as can and freeze for the winter months ahead. She was never averse to having her children help tend to the garden
since they would also be benefactors of the harvest. She was known to attend rummage sales and auctions around the area to find unique and useful treasures that she and her family could utilize in their daily lives
She had a passion for taking old scratched and marred furniture and giving it new life
refinishing it to a beautiful luster
many pieces found their way into the homes of her children. When her children were raised
and Rosemary reached retirement she began to find time for herself where she could explore new hobbies and interests
and give back to her community. She volunteered countless hours sorting through treasures for The Shepherd’s Attic
Rosemary was an integral part of the formation of the Chilton Red Hat Society
She kept active and strong attending exercise classes
and taking on a paper route in her neighborhood. Rosemary also wanted to keep her mind sharp and took great interest in learning about places around the world and took in many events at Ledge View Nature Center where she could learn and explore the unique world around her
The community where she lived was her passion later in her life
She enjoyed telling the history of this area to people she encountered
She collected many historical artifacts which were shared with friends
family and the attendees of the Calumet County Fair. Each year as the fair ended
she was already planning what she would showcase the next year. Survivors include her children: Sheri Daun-Bedford
Keith (Sue) Daun; 6 grandchildren; 6 great grandchildren; and her siblings-in-law: Jane (Gautier) Daun
Betty (Palmer) Beyer. She is further survived by nieces
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband: Kenneth; a son-in-law: Mark Bedford; her siblings and their spouses: Joyce (Frank) Ulrichs
The Calumet County fair would like to extend sympathy to the family of Rosemary
We appreciate the many years that she has worked at the fair in the antique department
And for her enthusiasm in exhibiting at the fair.she will be missed
I remember Rosemary when she was worked for Dr Knauf
She remembered my parents coming in to see the Doctor and coming out crying
she told me years ago they found out my mom had cancer
and Rosemary felt so sad for my dad and all us little kids
She told me that story when we she started working at Foley Co
and was so kind and caring with everyone, she even took care of my son for part of the summer after she retired. We stayed in touch through the years
calling ,texting and going out to dinner for birthdays,I have her last message to me from May 29th on my phone yet
she asked myself and another friend of ours to come to see her at the assisted living facility but sadly we never got there
Hope her and her dear husband Ken had a joyfull reunion when she got to heaven, she talked about him often
Rosemary and I were classmates at CHS (Class of 53) and we had many good times working on class reunions
was also a classmate and a close friend of your dad
I enjoyed working with Rosemary for the few years I've known her back in the Foley Days
My deepest sympathy for you and your family
(WTVF) — Daun Bauman said she’s in a much better place than she was last month
Her husband is in jail accused of violating his probation in a neighboring county
He was on probation for aggravated stalking of a different woman when he was arrested for beating his wife
much less the person she proposed to earlier this summer
“I guess that’s kind of part of why I’m spinning out of control
NewsChannel 5 Investigates chose to conceal the name of Bauman’s husband
he’s only been charged with domestic violence against Bauman but hasn’t been convicted
A closer look at his past — uncovered by NewsChannel 5 Investigates — demonstrated he had an extensive history of domestic violence spanning four Tennessee counties
Bauman’s husband has been charged with violating an order of protection and especially aggravated stalking women on six different occasions
Overwhelming is the word Bauman chose to describe her life after what she said has been nothing short of a nightmare
She’s never before been in fear for her life the way she had been over the past several weeks and the name that keeps coming up is Lauren Johansen
Bauman watched NewsChannel 5 Investigates coverage of Bricen Rivers
who was bonded out of Nashville jail and later was accused of murdering his girlfriend Lauren
Bauman said speaking with Johansen’s father helped her find peace of mind
she began to reflect on why she was in the seat
I just think it’s fair that I shouldn’t have to worry about being murdered
Bauman knew her husband had a troubled past
but nothing she said they couldn’t reconcile
“Every day he just showed me a side of himself that I knew I wanted to spend the rest of my life with this man,” Bauman said
Only weeks after they were married in a small Pigeon Forge ceremony did Bauman begin to see another side of her husband
Bauman remembers bits and pieces of the night on Broadway where she says her husband relapsed on alcohol and became abusive
and then I remember being punched with a closed fist,” Bauman said
Graphic photos appeared to show a gash on the top of Bauman’s head and bruising around her body
She was willing to blame alcohol and move on
but then Bauman’s friend said she got a text from Bauman’s husband
“He answered my phone and told my best friend he was going to make me gone,” Bauman said
Bauman told Metro Nashville Police officers what happened
officers arrested her husband on charges of domestic assault with bodily injury and already violating the order of protection she had just filed
“When I called the jail to ensure he was there
and anyone she could about her husband’s priors expecting him to be held without bond
Bond was instead set at a combined $5,000 for both charges and soon her husband was released
“What’s that like telling all of these different agencies that this man is dangerous and then not seeing the follow through?” we asked
because I’m out here hiding in the middle of nowhere
Bauman was in hiding when we sat down for an interview
out of fear that her husband would track her down and do something to keep her from talking
she has moved out of her home but said she still lived in fear for weeks
Metro Nashville Police Chief John Drake first openly expressed concerns earlier this year when describing a judicial system he said “continues to fail people.”
Davidson County General Sessions Judge Jim Todd responded by telling NewsChannel 5 in May that judicial magistrates don’t have access to the National Crime Information Center or NCIC
This means the people in charge of setting bonds often do so without knowing important context like if a suspect has been charged with similar crimes in a different county
“The reality of it is we can’t set bonds with an Ouija board,” Todd said
Other law enforcement agencies located in the same building as the magistrates do have access to NCIC and Todd said it could be as simple as sharing resources already under one roof
“I understand the frustration and I understand the optics
The public needs to know that the court system is aware of this issue and has been,” Todd said
Presiding General Sessions Judge Allegra Walker sent a statement to NewsChannel 5 Investigates where she wrote they are currently working with the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation to be granted NCIC access
Walker says they’re also working with the Metro Council and the Mayor’s Office for funding this effort because ideally
they would like to hire staff dedicated to searching NCIC
“Our Magistrates knowing a person’s complete criminal history before making a decision regarding bail
bond or pre-trial release conditions is vitally important
We are hopeful that our efforts will lead to this enhancement,” Walker said
Bauman said none of what’s been proposed changes the fact that many others continue to live in fear during what’s considered one of the most vulnerable times for any domestic violence victim
The man she once knew has a record of stalking
All of which she says could have made a compelling argument for the magistrates to order GPS monitoring
that would be the game changer,” Bauman said
Bauman remembers the stories of Lauren Johansen and Marie Varsos who were killed after their partners made bail and right before trial
She says there’s no magic wand to undo what at first may have felt like a fairy tale romance
so instead she’s leaning on faith and speaking out when others can’t
We’ve reached out to TBI to find out what it will take for these magistrates to get access around the state and we’re still waiting on an answer

On “The Maggie Daun Show,” the Democratic senator from Wisconsin talked about the high-profile Laken Riley Act and whether or not she’d vote in favor of the bill
Tammy Baldwin joined “The Maggie Daun Show” to discuss the bill she led the passage of that would create the first ever monument dedicated to women’s history on the National Mall in Washington
the Women’s Suffrage National Monument Location Act
was signed into law by President Joe Biden on Saturday
and was one she co-led with Republican Sen
After discussing that bill, Maggie Daun asked Sen. Baldwin about the Laken Riley Act, a Republican-led bill aiming to address illegal immigration and crimes committed by undocumented immigrants. The bill passed the House with bipartisan support on Tuesday
Baldwin said she would be voting to bring the bill to the floor — a vote that happened shortly after the interview — but said she “wouldn’t support it in its current form.”
is flawed in how it is written and that it needs to be perfected,” she said
“But I also think this is an opportunity to remind folks that we need to have a much broader discussion about immigration
as we take up the first measure we’re going to take up during this session
who have just taken the majority in the Senate
are going to be willing to look at amendments
about really important topics that we must tackle
And I wouldn’t support it in its current form
But I want to give the new majority an opportunity to work with us to actually consider amendments
We’ll see whether they’re genuine in their offer to try to work on important topics in a bipartisan manner.”

Dunn was there – on the front lines – when the mob stormed the Capitol. He says psychological and moral injuries continue to harm both law enforcement and the American public, especially with ongoing denials about what happened that day. He also had to testify during the January 6th Committee hearings.
“This isn’t just about the physical injuries,” Dunn explains. “The moral injury piles up every day as we see people refuse to acknowledge the attack for what it was—an assault on our democracy.”
Trump pardoned more than 1,500 people involved in the insurrection and Dunn says many of them violently assaulted police officers.
If you’re shocked by what Trump is doing now, you weren’t paying attention before.
He’s also frustrated by leaders like Brad Schimel, a candidate for Wisconsin Supreme Court, for his failure to speak out against the pardons. Schimel is currently a Waukesha County Circuit Court Judge.
“I am calling out the politicians who continue to downplay the events of that day,” Dunn says. “This kind of rewriting of history is dangerous for the future of the nation.”
And despite claims Trump’s actions and words are simply “rhetoric,” Dunn argues these are not empty threats. He calls it a deliberate strategy.
“What he said was rhetoric, but now it’s reality. And it’s emboldening people,” Dunn warns.
Dunn believes it is not a time for citizens to sit back and ignore the consequences of this rhetoric. He’s urging everyone—particularly those who voted for Trump—to understand the fight for accountability and the truth will continue.
“If you’re shocked by what Trump is doing now, you weren’t paying attention before,” Dunn says. “And now the stakes have never been higher.”
Gbenga Ajilore breaks down the impact and describes the new tariffs as a losing gamble for U.S
to discuss the tariffs and the impact on U.S
Listen to the entire segment starting at the half-way mark here:
“The tariffs are meant to generate billions in revenue,” Ajilore says
“The intention is to bring manufacturing jobs back to the U.S
Ajilore points out there are fundamental contradictions in these goals
He explains that raising tariffs to curb fentanyl would undermine the revenue-generating potential of these taxes
Ajilore also stresses the uncertainty many businesses are facing under this unpredictable policy.
“There will be damage to industries like agriculture,” Ajilore explains
“And particularly in states like Wisconsin
where retaliatory tariffs could decimate dairy and soybean exports
The long-term impacts of these policy changes are concerning
especially as global trade partners seek stability elsewhere
This could potentially lead to a permanent shift away from U.S
President Donald Trump unveiled his sweeping trade agenda on April 2
including a 10 percent baseline tariff on imports from all countries except for Mexico and Canada
The changes are set to take effect April 5
Several dozen nations are also facing even higher individualized import taxes
a 26 percent tariff on India and a 20 percent tariff on the European Union
These tariffs will go into effect April 9.
Read the White House fact sheet to see how each trade partner’s reciprocal import taxes are being calculated based on what Trump considers an unfair trade practice for American products
He also tells Daun there will be negative effects on low-income Americans with the tariffs essentially serving as a sales tax on goods
impacting those with limited purchasing power.
“There is a need for clarity and consistency in this new trade policy,” Ajilore says
“The current approach is doing more harm than good and may permanently erode trust in the U.S
Daun shares that Republican Senator Rand Paul is sharing his concerns about the growing uncertainty
He believes though tariffs are often seen as a tool to protect domestic industries
these will raise prices and harm consumers
He is arguing a trade deficit in a wealthy country like the U.S
is not a negative but rather an indicator of a strong economy that benefits from cheaper goods imported from lower-wage countries
The tariffs that Trump detailed Wednesday mark the most significant U.S. protectionist trade action since the 1930s, when Congress imposed tariffs on more than 20,000 goods and dug the U.S. economy deeper into the Great Depression. https://t.co/G9863LOTQU
Ajilore believes the real issue remains the unpredictable nature of Trump’s tariff strategy, with both businesses and consumers left to navigate a landscape of instability and confusion.
“This may have lasting repercussions, as countries and businesses may increasingly look to diversify away from U.S. markets,” Ajilore explains. “It’s a potentially irreversible shift in global trade dynamics.”

The Wisconsin Supreme Court race is becoming a focal point in both local and national political discussions. And scrutiny over the dark money influence in the run up to the April 1st election is growing. Yari Aquino, Director of Strategic Communications at Emily’s List, joins Maggie Daun, host of The Maggie Daun Show
to discuss the significant impact this election will have on the state and its judicial future
Wisconsin’s Supreme Court race is poised to be the most expensive in the state’s history
Aquino also points out the rising influence of dark money using the example of Elon Musk who is pouring millions into the race with hopes of influencing the results
It’s now increasing concerns over the integrity of elections
as Wisconsin’s Supreme Court race is poised to be the most expensive in the state’s history
“The battle for Wisconsin’s judiciary is not just a local issue but part of a broader nationwide strategy
Conservative forces want to take control of state courts,” Aquino explains
where Justice Allison Riggs’ victory is being contested despite two recounts
is a reminder of the tactics that could undermine democracy
a candidate backed by significant dark money
is facing criticism for his controversial actions as former Attorney General and his alignment with extremist agendas.”
The discussion also turns to the issue of women’s rights and in particular reproductive freedoms
Aquino explains that state courts play a pivotal role in defending or dismantling these rights.
“A shift in Wisconsin’s Supreme Court could have lasting consequences on reproductive rights
and the balance of power in the state,” Aquino says
“The election is not just about the candidates but about ensuring that the will of the people is respected over the interests of billionaires and extreme agendas.”
Aquino and Emily’s List will continue efforts to support pro-choice women candidates like Susan Crawford in Wisconsin. She says the group believes in advocating for democracy and fairness in the judicial system.
“The upcoming election is about more than just political preferences,” Aquino says. “It’s about protecting the fundamental principles of justice and ensuring that future generations inherit a democracy that respects their rights and voices.”
Testimony continues on the sixth day of the trial of Jason Lindemann
Lindemann is charged with more than a dozen counts
including two felony charges of second-degree recklessly endangering safety
Prosecutors claim he crashed his power boat into a paddle wheel boat on the Fox River in Oshkosh in July 2022
His defense has said the crash was an accident
(Viewer discretion advised — trial may contain strong language)
the defense called witnesses to the stand who were on Jason Lindeman’s boat when it crashed into the On The Loos paddleboat on July 9
The prosecution questioned Matthew Vienola and Jackie Walton-Kumbier
They were both asked what they remembered the night of the crash
including whether or not of Jason Lindeman was consuming alcohol while they were at the Dockside Tavern in the hours before the crash
Prosecution: "Was everyone in your group drinking while you were at Dockside?"
Walton-Kumbier: "I wasn’t paying attention."
Prosecution: "Do you recall seeing him falling?"
The state showed the court video of the defendant at the bar
who said she did not recall that happening
The prosecution pressed the witnesses on the moments before
both Vienola and Walkton-Kumbier recalled a few details of the crash and the moments after
Prosecution: "Did you remember seeing the paddle boat pulled off to the side?"
Walton-Kumbier: "I don’t remember seeing it
I don’t know if that’s because I was intoxicated which we already established or because if it was dark
Walton-Kumbier was asked if she remembered anyone yelling at the group inside Mr
Walton-Kumbier recalled someone yelling at them but did not recall what they had said
The state then called one witness who wanted to remain anonymous
The prosecution asked about the moments leading up to the crash
Witness: "After we took off it seems like it was one or two minutes
Prosecution: "Did you have to hold on while the boat accelerated?"
According to expert testimony from a GPS forensic specialist from the Winnebago County Sheriff’s Office on day five of the trail
the Nor-tech 450 accelerated to 46 miles per hour just before it crashed into the On The Loos paddle boat
who was at the Dockside Tavern on the evening of July 9
and also on Jason Lindeman’s boat the moment it crashed
The prosecution asked if she remembered Jason Lindeman and those in his group in the hours leading up to the crash
Daun: "I wasn’t paying attention if they were drinking
Prosecution: "Did you see the On The Loos before the crash?"
did the boat you were on drive past the On The Loos?"
Prosecution: "Did you see the On The Loos?"
the defense asked if she saw Jason Lindeman drinking the night of July 9
Defense: "Did you see Jason drink anything?"
the state called Cayleigh Ahrens to the stand
She was with Jason Lindemann at Dockside and on the boat at the time of the crash on July 9
Ahrens if she had witnessed Jason Lindemann drinking on the night in question
She said she had not due to the fact she was not paying attention to Mr
Ahrens testified to drinking on the evening of July 9
and was intoxicated and could not remember who was taking shots of tequila at Dockside Tavern in the hours leading up to the crash
The prosecution asked Ahrens to describe the moments leading up to and the moments after the crash
She said she was sitting in the back of the boat at the time and did not see the On The Loos paddle boat when they had crashed into it
Prosecution: "At some point did you know it was a boat that was struck?"
Ahrens testified she was upset that Jason Lindemann did not stop the boat after the crash and had notified people were chasing the Nor-Tech boat along the shoreline waiving their arms
Ahrens: "I do remember telling him to stop the boat
I was pretty upset that he was not stopping the boat."
Prosecution: "Did Jason respond to your pleas to stop the boat?"
the attorney asked Ahrens if she recalled Jason drinking at the Dockside Tavern on the evening of July 9
I don’t remember paying attention to him."
Ahrens about her requests to Lindemann to stop the boat
Ahrens said she noticed people on the shoreline trying to “get our attention.”
The prosecution called to the stand Detective Kyle Shroeder with the Winnebago County Sheriff’s Office
Shroeder is an expert witness on mobile phone download analysis
Schroeder testified to analyzing the data from Jason Lindemann’s phone to extract data relevant to the investigation
Schroeder testified to attempting to download the information from Mr
Lindemann’s phone while it was in airplane mode
he says he found an application known as a “data locker
” A data locker is described as an application that can hide digital files
While attempting to open up the locked files
Schroeder says he connected to phone to the internet
After doing so the phone began an automatic factory reset
essentially wiping all of the data from the phone
Prosecution: "Did you observe one of these data lockers on the defendant's phone?"
Prosecution: "How does a phone have this reaction to taking it out of airplane mode?"
Schroeder: "You need someone with remote access to their phone
Someone would have to send the notification that the phone has to be factory reset."
Schroeder testified he was not able to extract the contents from the storage locker due to the factory reset
Schroeder: "If there was anything in there
Schroeder testified he was able to extract call and text data from the phone but noticed all of the call and text records from July 9
because I wasn’t involved in this case initially
none of those calls showed up and I know those calls were made."
Schroeder testified he was able to recover voicemails made by several detectives asking Lindemann to call the Sheriff’s office regarding the crash
they were definably deleted because you’re not going to not have any voicemails without any record of call transitions
Lindeman had his phone on the day of the crash or the cause of the factory reset
Defense: "You don’t know why it went into factory reset right?"
Schroeder: "I know someone would have needed to initiate that protocol."
Defense: "You don’t know if he had his phone with him that day?"
Schroeder: "I don’t know if he had his phone with him that day."

Milwaukee, Wis. – Civic Media is announcing today that longtime Milwaukee County Corporation Counsel Margaret C. Daun will be leaving the County to become General Counsel of Civic Media, Inc. and expand The Maggie Daun Show to air two hours every weekday from 2-4 p.m
The show is broadcast statewide across the growing media network
“We are thrilled to add someone of Maggie’s caliber to the Civic Media team
She brings a wealth of experience to our organization
Her audience knows her as a pragmatist and truth-teller from her early evening show
which is why we’re excited to expand her time slot to two full hours on weekday afternoons
Wisconsin will be sure to find that The Maggie Daun Show is a must-listen for everyone who cares about our state and local communities,” said Sage Weil
Civic Media’s Program Director Kathryn Lake said
“The first time I heard Maggie on the radio
I sat in my car for 30 minutes in my driveway because I wanted to hear what she said next. Her skill is totally unique among talk radio show hosts in my twenty-five years of experience. She explains the most complex
and economic concepts so that we can all understand and engage. But best of all
she respects her listeners and works together with them to ensure we all understand why the things we see in the headlines matter to each of us.”
Maggie brings a unique insider view of government to Civic Media
Her storied career began on Capitol Hill as a staffer to then-Congressman Tom Barrett
followed by a prestigious federal appeals court clerkship at the Seventh Circuit
After spending significant time as a securities litigator at one of the world’s top Wall Street law firms—working on high profile cases such as the Enron fraud—she most recently served in the City of Milwaukee and Milwaukee County
where she provided legal counsel and leadership for Milwaukee County
its elected officials and many of its departments for more than seven years.
Maggie’s public service work over the past thirteen years has been heralded by insiders and top elected officials as the “gold standard” of public lawyering. She counts more career accomplishments and highlights than most
top among them: successfully suing opioid manufacturers and their distributors on behalf of Milwaukee County in 2018
This effort earned her wide acknowledgment and recognition as a thought leader in the trailblazing litigation
Her work led to a recovery of an initial $152 million by Milwaukee County
an amount that will continue to grow as more settlements tied to the litigation come through in the coming years
Of special note is that this is the largest litigation recovery by a local government in Wisconsin’s history
Her work has literally saved countless lives and will continue to do so for many years after her tenure ends this coming March 4
“I am thrilled to join Civic Media during this period of rapid growth
and I am humbled to have the opportunity to speak directly to Wisconsin voters
Given the historic importance of the 2024 election
making the move to become the attorney at the network and expand my role as talk show host is about the only job that could have compelled me to leave the County
I hope to deliver value to my listeners based on my perspectives rooted in my background as an economist and an attorney in both the public and private sectors
I will continue my vigilant demand that government at all levels be more efficient and effective
and push for more focus on serving the middle class
as well as our friends who continue to face great risks throughout our communities
I am heartbroken to end my time as a public servant
Too often public servants are derided and turned into punchlines
but virtually every person I know in local Milwaukee government works hard every day to make life better for our community. I am especially grateful to my incredible coworkers in the Corporation Counsel’s Office
among so many other incredible leaders and elected officials I could take hours naming.”
“Maggie has been a stalwart advocate for racial justice and underserved communities for her entire career and brought that energy and conviction to her role as Corp Counsel
She’s also a thoughtful and effective lawyer
I am happy to see her share her talents in a new way and to continue to fight for those whose voices are not acknowledged by the powerful
Maggie is a credit to public servants everywhere.” Starting on February 26th the Maggie Daun Show can be heard statewide
on all Civic Media Network news/talk stations:
If you are outside the broadcast area, you can tune in via the Civic Media App

When Daun'Lee Warren's father told her she could be 'whatever you put your mind to,' she dreamed of becoming a doctor
is a Kirk Kerkorian School of Medicine at UNLV first-year pediatric resident
Growing up in Texas, Daun’Lee Warren had a growing interest in becoming a doctor but hadn't seen many Black physicians. She recalls one day asking her father if he knew of any Black women who'd made an impact in the medical field.
Her father — a railroad conductor at the time — told her about about Alexa Canaday
the first African-American woman to become a neurosurgeon
the first African-American woman to earn a medical degree in the United States
“You can be whatever you put your mind to,” the father told his daughter
For Warren, now a first-year pediatric resident at the Kirk Kerkorian School of Medicine at UNLV
who has read history outside school and shared what he knew,” she says
“Most American textbooks talk a little about slavery
and then maybe Martin Luther King and (President Barack) Obama
The contributions of Black people are important to all Americans
because learning about each other provides perspective
This February marks 47 years after President Gerald Ford officially recognized Black History Month and called upon the public to “seize the opportunity to honor the too-often neglected accomplishments of Black Americans in every area of endeavor throughout our history.” It was nearly 100 years ago that Dr
created the precursor to Black History Month with Negro History Week
a celebration of heroic Black figures that included James McCune Smith
who in 1837 became the first African American to hold a medical degree in the U.S
“Black history is American history,” Warren says
Black History Month continues to be important for several reasons
including providing positive real-life examples of what African Americans
who continue to work to overcome systemic racism
She says if Black history inspires other minority youths to go into medicine or other fields they might not otherwise attempt
History is as much about today as it is about the past
adding that she’ll be proud if she can inspire others through her work in medicine
the young physician points out that the field of medicine hasn’t been immune to having the contributions of African Americans ignored
while some K-12 textbooks do point out that Dr
pioneered methods of storing blood plasma for transfusion and organized the first large-scale blood bank in the U.S
who elevated chemotherapy during the mid 20th century from a last resort for cancer patients to a viable treatment option
performed the first open heart surgery in the U.S
Ignorance of Black history by her 8th grade teacher at a Christian school in San Antonio placed Warren
who now wins plaudits as a physician from the director of the medical school’s pediatric residency program
and the teacher wanted me to talk about the positive aspects of slavery
I said I couldn’t think of anything positive about being enslaved," she says
noting the physical and sexual violence against enslaved people. "The teacher said I had to remember that Blacks did learn the Christian religion through slavery
that didn’t overcome the way Black women were treated and I refused to do the assignment
Her father came to the school and backed his daughter’s position
called the assignment “inappropriate,” a position the school’s leadership backed
program director for the pediatric residency program at the Kirk Kerkorian School of Medicine
says Warren has grown into a young physician who stands up for the best in pediatrics
advocating for patients and their families while always working to learn something new
Warren’s parents divorced when Warren was still a young girl
Her father retired early from the railroad because of a disability
She has come to regard him not only as a father
but also as a best friend who has been all about telling her the truth about life as he sees it
She worked her way through high school and college as an administrative assistant to an optometrist and in customer relations for the Marriott Hotel chain
Though believing while in college that she would go to medical school
Warren said she also wanted to know more about the business models accompanying medicine
she received a bachelor’s degree in science from Incarnate World
master’s degrees in management and business administration from Davenport University
and a medical degree from the Avalon University School of Medicine
“So many decisions regarding patient health care are made before a patient even walks into a room,” she says
“I wanted to be able to help my patients not only in the clinic
but by also advocating for them in the boardroom.”
a professor the first black pediatrician in the state who went on to become the chief of pediatrics at Sunrise and UMC hospitals and a member of the Nevada State Board of Medical Examiners
“I’ve already been able to learn a lot from Dr
including the importance of clear communication between physician and patient
who stresses she wants to be known as a fine pediatrician
she wants to do all she can to erase the difficulty with access to appropriate care in the country
a phenomenon that remains prevalent in communities of color
“It is sad and infuriating that in a country with so many resources there are people here who still can’t receive the proper care
I wanted to pick a medical specialty where I could advocate for a population that couldn't possibly do it for themselves… One can sit back and sulk or figure out a way to be part of the change.”
Fourth-year medical students reflect on their medical school journey one week before commencement
Sky Denson says UNLV's real estate program helped launch his career — before he even graduated
a longtime UNLV faculty member and administrator
most recently served as the university's officer in charge; appointment runs through April 2028.
