The sheer number of infants quickly overwhelmed the hospitals in Essen and because babies were taken from their mothers minutes after being born and never returned Krupp’s people had to come up with a plan to permanently house the prisoner-newborns  A ramshackle compound of seven small barracks buildings near the small town of Voerde-Bei-Dinslaken outside of Essen Living conditions at Buschmannshof were beyond horrific  Babies sent to the camp weren’t even given names  Because the tide of the war was already turning inexorably against Germany when the camp opened Buschmannshof never had sufficient resources to provide even minimally humane care for its prisoners  Every child was severely malnourished and given little to no medical intervention even though epidemics of diphtheria and other diseases repeatedly spread like wildfires among the prison population  Most were never given clothes to wear or even proper formula to eat  They slept and spent their days on straw pallets covered with rubber sheets there was no one to provide care when it was needed  For most of the time Buschmannshof operated there were only four Ukrainian women who themselves had given birth at the camp to tend to the hundreds of babies who were housed there at any given time  The majority died within weeks of arriving  (One guard testified at the Nuremberg trials after the war that an average of 50 to 60 babies died every day at Buschmannshof  Some of the dead were buried in numbered graves in nearby cemeteries were cremated in the same manner as other concentration camp victims.) as Allied forces moved ever closer to the camp a decision was made to move the few dozen remaining children of Buschmannshof east to keep them under “the protection,” of the German Army  Manchester believed that a person or persons unknown decided to kill the children who they had not already managed to exterminate through disease to prevent them from being discovered by the Allies after the war I am not suggesting that Donald Trump’s “Tender Age Shelters” are in any way materially akin to Buschmannshof or any other Nazi slave labor or mass extermination facility ne’er do well hangers-on or mindlessly loyal followers are crypto-nazis in any way shape or form (even though some proudly claim that title for themselves)  I’m also not attempting to fill the vacuum of publicly available objective evidence of the quality of care at the Trump post-natal jails with a false equivalency to some of the most evil crimes ever committed by the hand of Man What I am trying to do is ask a few questions about how the leaders of our government could believe that any public policy objective could be advanced by actions that gratuitously impose the most devastating mental and emotional anguish imaginable on children too young to even begin to process the experience  Are our leaders – and their most ardent followers – so bereft of humanity so devoid of human empathy - that they can’t see that sundering our national values simply to gain partisan advantage will destroy the legacy that our founders gave us to pass on to future generations Trump’s kinder-prisons aren’t Buschmannshof and if we allow our leaders to pay no price for creating them - how far away are we from becoming a people who would contemplate actually building another Buschmannshof to serve a future political expedient Not signed up for Daily Kos yet? Walter Extra, the famous aerobatics pilot behind the Extra series of aerobatic planes, has set a FAI world record in the new field of Electric-powered planes. Launching from Schwarze Heide Airport near Dinslaken, Germany, on 25 November 2016 he flew a unique, battery-powered plane and climbed to 3,000m in a time of 4mins 22 seconds he broke the FAI world record for electric-powered planes that weigh between 500kg to 1,000kg only made its maiden flight on 24 June this year That first flight was called a “technical milestone” by Siemens the company behind the technology that powers the electric plane “This day will change aviation,” Frank Anton “This is the first time that an electric aircraft in the quarter-megawatt performance class has flown.” Siemens developed a new type of electric motor that weighs only 50kg but delivers a continuous output of 260 kilowatts to power the Extra aerobatic plane That is five times more than previous comparable systems The new system means that hybrid-electric planes with four or more seats will now be possible Flying the plane on its maiden flight and for the record was Walter Extra An award-winning aerobatic pilot and chief designer and founder of Extra Flugzeugbau Extra gave his name to one of the most popular aerobatics aircraft in the sport mind and soul into ensuring that each aircraft carrying my name is the very best that it can be,” he has said initial flights and new world record point the way to an electric-powered future for some aircraft The battery technology behind the Extra 330LE is scalable and some industry figures expect to see electric-powered passenger aircraft carrying up to 100 people on short-haul routes of up to 1,000km by 2030 In the air and without engine noise the experience is “almost silent” Mr Walter Extra said Siemens said that they had partnered with Extra Flugzeugbau because aerobatics planes are “particularly well suited” to taking components to their limit The world record belongs to the group of Electric records for Powered Aeroplanes with a take-off weight of 500kg to 1,000kg FAI - Fédération Aéronautique Internationale Design by Penceo - LAB 2Energy🚀US scientists end 70-year fusion struggle, paving way for better reactorsAamir Khollam18 hours ago 7Space🚀Scientists aboard a plane with 26 cameras chase burning satellite and film its fiery fallChris Younga day ago 4Military🌟Beijing's 6th-gen jets can block US stealth bombers 620 miles away, claims ChinaKapil Kajal39 minutes ago 6Energy🌟70-year-old nuclear fusion problem solved; can help tokamaks stop escaping electronsAmeya Palejaan hour ago 8Military🌟World’s first Amazon-style weapons marketplace debuts with drones, robots, ammoKapil Kajal2 hours ago Kathleen Villaluz The electric aircraft by Siemens, the Extra 330LE has just set two new speed records and a new world climb record a week ago It made its maiden public flight on the 4th of July climbing and five minutes of full throttle flight [Copyright Jean-Marie Urlacher] It is powered by the motor SP260D that only weighs a mere 50 kg and sets the record of power-to-weight ratio producing a maximum of 260 kilowatts of energy This is the first time that an electric aircraft flew in the range of performance class with a quarter of a megawatt of power The development of hybrid electric aircraft containing four or more seats is now possible because of this prototype performance [Copyright Jean-Marie Urlacher] The first electric aircraft with a capacity of 100 passengers and with a flight distance of about 1,000 km is envisaged by Siemens to be out by the year 2030 Using the hybrid-electric motor system for airplanes is the future of Siemens’ avionics business Another speed record was set by the Extra by being the world’s first e-aircraft to tow a glider into the sky. The aerotow, piloted by Walter Extra, carried a type LS8-neo glider up to a height of 600 m in just 76 seconds “This aerotow provides further highly visible evidence of our record-setting motor’s performance capabilities,” said Frank Anton head of eAircraft at the Siemens venture capital unit next47 The Extra eAircraft has also managed to set a world record of climbing up to an altitude of 3,000 m in only 4 minutes and 22 seconds with a climb velocity of 11.5 meters per second the Extra 330LE supplies five times more electric output of about 260 kilowatts constantly “This is another milestone on the path to the electrification of air travel, this amazing performance was possible only with digital technologies, which enabled us to optimize our drive train to its technical limit”, says the Siemens’ head of eAircrafts Other than being the fastest, being an electric aircraft makes the Extra 330LE plane a sustainable means of transportation as it doesn’t contribute to the emission of carbon to the atmosphere The future can be envisaged to be sustainable and carbon-free through developments of technologies such as this 0COMMENTABOUT THE AUTHORKathleen Villaluz By clicking sign up, you confirm that you accept this site's Terms of Use and Privacy Policy Premium STEAG Power operating coal-fired power plants Asterion Industrial Partners, a Spanish infrastructure investment company, has agreed to buy German utility STEAG from consortium Kommunale Beteiligungsgesellschaft (KSBG) The KSBG consortium represents the municipal utilities of cities including Dortmund STEAG Power operates hard-coal-fired power plants at six locations with 5% share of total electricity generation in Germany Iqony is focused on renewable energies and technologies that can be used in climate-neutral way wind and geothermal energy along with hydrogen and storage solutions engineering services and gas-fired power plants These gas-fired plants are expected to be powered by hydrogen in the future KSBG picked a 51% stake in STEAG in 2011 and the remaining 49% stake was acquired in 2014 Don’t let policy changes catch you off guard Stay proactive with real-time data and expert analysis The consortium stated that STEAG was going through economic problems and after the acquisition the consortium decided to sell it last year it has also declared to preserve STEAG as a whole Asterion CEO Jesús Olmos said: “Our firm is fully committed to the energy and heat transition and STEAG is very well positioned to be a very relevant player in Germany and Europe in this process towards cleaner more competitive and reliable energies such as solar and wind power while offering an interesting energy mix that is also supported by coal and gas to guarantee the viability of this transition “It also has a team of experienced management and skilled employees with technical expertise in wind Its energy sites have excellent infrastructure and are optimally connected to the German energy grid With the experience of Asterion’s team in managing companies in green transformation we are excited to work together to deliver on STEAG’s decarbonization plans and create new the deal is expected to close by the end of this year Asterion stated it will continue to support STEAG’s goal of becoming a climate-neutral utility by 2040 It plans to expand Iqony by investing in renewables such as hydrogen solar and wind generation and also in district heating Give your business an edge with our leading industry insights View all newsletters from across the GlobalData Media network This website is using a security service to protect itself from online attacks The action you just performed triggered the security solution There are several actions that could trigger this block including submitting a certain word or phrase You can email the site owner to let them know you were blocked Please include what you were doing when this page came up and the Cloudflare Ray ID found at the bottom of this page Extra Aircraft has received approval form the European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) for the Avidyne Entegra Release 9 integrated flight deck in the German-built Extra EA-500 single-engine turboprop. The certification allows IFR day and night operations in EA-500s fitted with the Entegra Release 9 upgrade. The airplane is currently certified only in Europe by EASA, but can achieve U.S. registration with some additional cost. Purchase price is less than $2 million. “We are excited to have our Entegra Release 9 system as the flight deck on the EA-500,” said Dan Schwinn, Avidyne’s founder. “Extra’s high-performance business-class aircraft is a perfect match for the Release 9 system, which was designed specifically to make single-pilot IFR flying safer and easier.”
