Syd, lead singer of the alternative-R&B group The Internet, is his older sister. Tyler, The Creator is one of his best friends and his introduction to the industry was via Odd Future where he served as Tyler’s DJ and hypeman under the name Yung Taco Pivoting to acting after a years-long affiliation with one of the most prolific music collectives of the last decade isn’t an unheard of Hollywood trajectory but when he first decided to pursue acting Bennett kept it secret from the rest of the crew especially after one particularly embarrassing day filming their early ‘10s Adult Swim sketch comedy series Loiter Squad “I remember shooting this Xzibit skit and everybody being like ‘You are so bad [at] this.’ And it was just I was 17 and I was nervous.” After the show ended and Odd Future wound down as other members saw their solo careers take off Bennett discovered there was only so far he could go with DJing “The next thing is making your own music and going on tours and I personally was not into that,” he says “I tried a bunch of other things and failed.” who Bennett first connected with at Tyler’s annual Camp Flog Gnaw festival “You talking about practice?” he remembers thinking making a reference to Allen Iverson’s famous rant at a 2002 news conference It’s an understandable enough reaction—Burd’s satirical series would feature him and even his real-life hypeman GaTa “playing” themselves show-Dave’s childhood friend from Philadelphia where he has embraced music industry cliches like a coke habit and a wry humor masking stunted emotional growth Bennett plays him with a pitch-perfect disaffected demeanor; he’s the straight man to Burd and GaTa’s wackier characters Bennett is firmly rooted in the county of purple and gold—he lives eight minutes from where he grew up far from the wealthy enclaves in the hills where the Dave characters and his real life friends get up to their hijinxs where he came to love vintage clothes as a child was right on Pico Boulevard and Sierra Bonita hunting for things ‘70s-era chairs from Antwerp and repurposed light signs to decorate his bachelor apartment He pulled up for lunch in a brilliant olive green jumpsuit but admitted that he had already had one outfit change but says Utah and Minnesota are the best states for rare finds He only misses LA’s monthly Rose Bowl Flea Market when he's on a film shoot and the Dave team regularly sources costumes out of his closet You might still catch Bennett in a Tyler video—he’s got a recurring role as the Carlton cuckolded by Tyler in a series of Call Me If You Get Lost clips—but he’s much more reserved and decidedly turnt down than he was in the rowdy early Odd Future days where he played a member of the entourage or crowd surfer He once worried that he would always be known as the goofy Loiter Squad homie ‘You're thinking about the one million people that know you And I'm thinking about however many people that don't know you exist.’” His perspective shifted: “There's people who meet me that have no idea about [my] past The irony that he transcended Yung Taco by playing a funhouse mirror version of that guy isn’t lost on him "The things that [Elz is] dealing with [this season] are things I dealt with when I was younger—trying to figure out where you fit into a [larger] situation,” Bennett says “It was easy to find the frustrations that I had when I was younger and experimenting with [who I wanted to be].” (Though he’s quick to clarify that “The things that are going on with [Elz] and Dave’s relationship”—since season 2 the old hometown friends have grown estranged—never happened to Taco.) He inhabits the character so well that fans on the street assume that he’s actually a popular producer the same way that Dave is actually Lil Dicky Bennett would like to test his mettle in a true-blue action role in part because he watched his stern Jamaican dad get choked up during Top Gun: Maverick (He simulates the throat-clearing sound his father let out during a particularly great scene But not in a chintzy Lifetime movie or even a big-budget biopic but as “HBO Kobe”—a character with enough heft to cover the Bryant’s myriad gray areas and contradictions Playing supporting roles as the even-keeled friend or brother Bennet has found relatively firm footing in the ever-shifting tectonics of Hollywood—but he’s seen enough to know how quickly things can change “I worked for a long time from a place of fear as far as maintaining financial stability,” he admits “I've gotten to a place where I feel financially stable though.” He’s using that fear to fuel his drive “I think I get more excited with each project in general because it's just more stuff to do—it's just more separation from Taco.” And wherever his career goes MANCHESTER CITY fan Elz the Witch headed down to the Etihad to watch her team beat Young Boys in the Champions League last night The social media star has featured on the BBC, building a huge following in the process In one she proudly posed in her Man City home shirt in front of the pitch. While in a second she wore her City top for a mirror selfie. For a third she shared a snap of her white and blue Adidas trainers. And in a fourth she smiled for a further snap. The internet sensation captioned her pictures: "W’s at the Etihad starter pack." Elz's post quickly received over 17,000 likes. And plenty of her fans flocked to leave a comment. While a second swooned: "Here's me thinking I couldn't love MCFC more…" A third called her: "My favourite." And another added: "Just incredible." Elz will have left last night's match in a great mood after City side cruised to a 3-0 win Erling Haaland's double either side of Phil Foden's effort sealed City's safe progression to the Champions League round of 16 She rose to fame when she started uploading her “play-throughs” of games like “The Sims” and “Fortnite.” She is a force to be reckoned with in a male-dominated industry Today we are celebrating her birthday with more interesting facts Elz started gaming at the age of eight and hasn’t looked back since She graduated with honors in degree programs in IT and business — a seriously smart and brainy chick While not much is divulged about her private life where she would upload playthroughs of popular games for people to watch Elz has claimed that her favorite games of all time are “Final Fantasy 7,” “Zelda Ocarina of Time,” “G.T.A San Andreas,” and “The Sims.” Although she is a gamer Elz is more “commercial,” and loves presenting it was announced that Elz would be joining KISS F.M where she would form part of the weekend afternoon time slots to showcase new music Elz has worked with many notable brands such as Adidas She also boasts a very impressive following on social media with over 221,000 subscribers on YouTube and over 19 million views She also has 269,000 followers on Instagram Elz hosts a podcast called “Citizen Game” that details all new developments in the gaming world and insider information She is well on her way to making a huge career for herself Elz begins uploading game “playthroughs” for other gamers to watch She begins posting gaming videos regularly on her YouTube channel She starts hosting a radio show on weekends where she plays new music Elz’s Instagram account has more than 200,000 followers while her YouTube channel has 128,000 subscribers; she has 39,300 followers on Twitter and 4,300 followers on Twitch After playing soccer with the boys at a young age and then later ending up in the world of I.T. Elz felt that she always needed to downplay her femininity to “fit in.” She then realized that thinking that way was silly and girls could be in these “male-dominated” roles too She is very open about how she felt growing up as a gamer in a male-dominated industry She urges people “not to judge a book by its cover.” She also asks fans not to be ashamed of their interest or hobbies she is an absolute “boss babe.” She can do it all — in I.T. She claims she was nicknamed “witch” by her friends in school because she would often complain She plays the massively popular game “Fortnite,” but says she is bad at it She would document her day through her Instagram stories on a handle called “Witche’s Picks” so her coworkers couldn’t find her on social media She finds playing a video game truly relaxing and therapeutic as she says her face is either red or pale She was a co-host at the final of the FIFA eWorld Cup at the O2 Arena in London Elz is a major fashion influencer on Instagram She’s a very private person who avoids conspiracy theories and gossip There’s no limit to this multi-talented YouTube Star This YouTube content creator is one step away from massive stardom and success This skillful YouTuber has become widely known for being one of the members of Dude Perfect Let’s get to know YouTube and social media star Join us as we celebrate this YouTuber and gamer who’s making moves in the entertainment space We keep track of fun holidays and special moments on the cultural calendar — giving you exciting activities ' + scriptOptions._localizedStrings.webview_notification_text + ' " + scriptOptions._localizedStrings.redirect_overlay_title + " " + scriptOptions._localizedStrings.redirect_overlay_text + " is Dave’s childhood friend from Philadelphia who’s pursuing a dream to be a music producer He’s a jokey truth-teller who has a hard time putting himself out there Career HighlightsChristine Koas Emma Emma has been close to Dave since they were creative partners at the ad agency. Uncategorized This year marks Ron Elz’s 60th on air and more than 50 years broadcasting as Johnny Rabbitt a character that he introduced at the now-defunct KXOK-AM in April 1962 List the call letters of the radio stations where Elz has worked—from San Antonio to Boston San Francisco to Detroit—and you can probably assemble the entire alphabet he created the “Real Rock Radio” format he claims to have been the first to program a radio station via computer He’s also worked in the record and concert-promotion industries taught communications at Saint Louis University a show that plays rock ’n’ roll from the ’50s through the ’70s on Saturday nights You can also catch him at the Missouri History Museum where he recently hosted a sold-out program about Gaslight Square—and where we met My grandfather had a drugstore at Vandeventer and West Pine—it’s not there anymore it’s part of Saint Louis U.—and these two brothers and one was the sales manager of WIL radio I would talk to them every time they’d come in: “Boy I’d sure like to get into radio.” [They’d reply] “Well gotta go to school; you gotta wait till you’re 21.” I finally said “I don’t want to wait all that time.” So they said “What you can do”—and people still do this today—“you buy your time.” … They suggested a station WTMV-AM—the “MV” stood for Mississippi Valley—in the Broadview Hotel in East St. Louis… I bought midnight to 2 a.m. Monday through Friday… East St. Louis wasn’t like it is today It was a very nice community and a very nice hotel “WTMV St. Louis: Broadcasting from the beautiful Broadview Hotel home of the famous Sunday smorgasbord.” That’s how the whole thing started—I was doing a jazz show At the time, the jazz scene here was incredible, with Miles Davis and John Coltrane playing at Gaslight Square’s Peacock Alley when they were in town He had a little place named Spider’s Barbecue over on Delmar just east of Euclid… Every musician would go [to Peacock Alley] we were with a musician who played at that time and said it was a 24-hour party at that hotel—stuff going on all the time… Later on [my wife and I] lived across the street from what had been the Midland Right! That’s where Julius Hemphill recorded Dogon A.D. which is just now being recognized as one of the 20th century’s most important jazz records Yet you were right in the heart of the city… We had a two-story town home with a full basement the National Broadcasting Institute—we’d moved from the Continental Building to that building we rented the downstairs space to Dot Records… The whole idea [with the neighborhood] was to create a utopian community Dave Venn—probably the best jazz pianist in St. Louis—lived right across the street from us [former Gaslight Square club owner] Jorge Martinez lived there Every generation seems to think it invented hip Yet you’re describing these hip enclaves in St. Louis from the ’50s and ’60s There is no formula… There are so many factors that enter into it. The right A&R person to find the right artist to do a certain song because they may say this group’s not going to go as far as that group so we’re not going to put any of our efforts into them… The music business in St. Louis—and to an extent every major city—was a big hub for wholesale distribution If you go back to the late ’60s and early ’70s there were more than 300 people who worked in wholesale business either as a distributor—what they called a rack jobber or a one-stop—in the stores He had studios in the Wall Building at Vandeventer and Olive the soundproofing was egg cartons… All the record companies—Columbia RCA—had full branches here… Now The same thing happened with the movie business Olive Street east of Grand was called Movie Row The movie studios had distribution centers There was one building on Compton that was the Universal International Across from that is another building that still exists—now the Barnard Stamp Company there’s a little border that sticks out that used to say “RKO Radio Pictures.” You’ve described a number of these historic St. Louis places, particularly restaurants, in your articles for Antique Warehouse What I write is basically about St. Louis It looks like it’s going to be a review of a restaurant but it’s about the restaurant and the history—the neighborhood We do list the hours and that kind of thing but it’s basically about the history The next one I’m doing is Cyrano’s are you frustrated that St. Louis sometimes erases its own past St. Louis is much more in tune with its past than many other cities I was just asked yesterday about Suburban Garden Suburban Garden That’s the same thing that would have happened to University City It’s curious that Suburban Garden was built over a streetcar line… It was owned by the same guy who owned Delmar Gardens [amusement park] Nowadays, what’s your approach to hosting Rte. 66? So that’s what “Hey Jude” was up against in the early ’60s… Speaking of, you were at San Fancisco’s Cow Palace when The Beatles performed there in 1964? The Cow Palace looked a lot like the Arena did—there were thousands of people… I would say 90 percent were female and under 20. [The screaming] built into a crescendo that was truly the loudest thing I have ever heard in my life—louder than a jet engine. You had people fainting and guards taking people out on stretchers. It was just like you see in the movies. Note: This article has been updated from an earlier version. At any given time, about half a ton (500 kilograms) of surface material is floating around the moon as microscopic ejecta. When Europa Clipper sails past Europa, the spacecraft’s SUrface Dust Analyzer works like a whale shark with an open mouth collecting and digesting ejecta dust to identify its chemical composition and origin point from the surface Electrical engineer Elz DeVito is on the team that designed and tested SUDA at the University of Colorado Boulder's Laboratory for Atmospheric and Space Physics (LASP) “Integration and testing is one of my favorite steps for an instrument,” DeVito said “It’s exciting seeing how all the parts interact.” The dust analyzer has two main components: an electronics box containing the computer and power system housed in Europa Clipper’s electronics vault and a sensor head mounted on the outside of the spacecraft Cylindrical and nearly 10 inches (24 centimeters) in diameter the sensor head reassembles a big bucket about the size of a marching band drum DeVito is responsible for assembling and testing one of the electronics boards mounted to the outside of that bucket “As a dust particle interacts with grids and plates inside the sensor head and the charge is amplified by my board and sent to the processor,” they said To identify what the dust around Europa is made of SUDA takes advantage of Europa Clipper’s speed The spacecraft will be traveling several thousand miles (or kilometers) per hour incoming dust slams into an iridium-plated titanium target plate instantly vaporizing dust into individual molecules which SUDA’s electrical fields then funnel to a detector that reveals the mass of each SUDA also records each dust particle’s speed and trajectory allowing scientists to trace a parabolic arc from Europa Clipper’s location at the moment of detection to the region on Europa’s surface that the dust was ejected from By analyzing hundreds (and sometimes thousands) of dust particles during each Europa flyby and tracing them back to regions on the moon SUDA will allow scientists to identify the chemical composition of individual geologic features on Europa Data from SUDA will be combined with that from other instruments to produce a more robust understanding of Europa’s surface chemistry than a single instrument could achieve To ensure SUDA is ready for that important work DeVito and their colleagues spent much of this summer testing and calibrating the instrument they put SUDA in a thermal vacuum chamber at LASP and successfully operated the instrument using the software it will use during the mission and at higher and lower temperatures than it will experience on the mission They then hurled dust particles at SUDA using a 3-megavolt dust accelerator to verify performance of the dust analyzer’s science channels DeVito and team have had one challenge above all: Keep it clean “Anything that lands on our instrument before launch could contaminate our data when we get there,” DeVito said “We always handle flight hardware with a lot of care but for SUDA we’ve had to increase the rigor.” SUDA isn’t DeVito’s first challenge They grew up watching sci-fi and were mesmerized by outer space but the path to space exploration is not always a straight line “In high school I took an astronomy class and I had a relative who worked in aerospace ‘I’m going to be an aerospace engineer,’ but I got to college and it wasn’t quite what I thought it was.” Engineering in general still felt right though – it challenged DeVito’s mind – so they changed majors to electrical engineering DeVito felt like they had found a fitting role They graduated in 2012 and were hired at LASP contortion classes – to improve flexibility,” they said “When I’m not seated at a computer I like to keep active and try new things.” DeVito also enjoys playing board games and hanging out with friends People are also their favorite part of work “There’s a lot of wicked-smart people on SUDA I like trying to glean information to see how they tackle challenges,” DeVito said but you get a group of people together and it helps make our challenges feel achievable.” In September 2022, SUDA arrived at NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory where it will be installed on Europa Clipper along with the spacecraft’s other instruments The video features a series of black-and-white photos of Crawford taken by photographer Barry Elz in 1984 Doug Vann/ZUMA Wire; I had to do this presentation about my dissertation, on how companies can use Twitter to blow up and have viral moments. This was 2012, and Twitter was not as big then I got scouted for a graduate role at IBM — a computer company — and I was there for three years doing project management I liked it but one day I literally decided to quit I used to always say to my mum that I'm not meant to be sitting in an office in front of a computer so perhaps a bit old starting out on the social media realm Most people in that space start when they're 16 or younger.” This content can also be viewed on the site it originates from “I got my first radio show on Rinse FM because I used to do random Instagram stories documenting my day, on my Witch's picks handle — so people from work wouldn’t find me through my real name. Growing up I was quite shy so this was big for me. I eventually got a manager and he guided me through unemployment I spent about four months after I quit my job trying to figure out what I wanted to do.” “During that period of unemployment and early radio days I felt lost because everyone on Instagram and social media were all doing really well and I felt so unaccomplished On social media everyone wants to pretend that they're doing amazingly well where you show 2% of your life and it's all positive So you look at people and you're like being busy and being judged based on how good I was at my job to being judged on what I look like on Instagram.” This content can also be viewed on the site it originates from “Since I was eight years old, my sister and I would play games on a games console which I was obsessed with. People just look at gamers and think, oh, they're going to be in their basement in a dark room playing video games. It’s not always like that. I decided to become a commercial female gamer who does presenting, loves music, fashion and makeup This content can also be viewed on the site it originates from “I started a YouTube channel to showcase my presenting skills and for fun. I had no money because I'd quit my job so I pitched and I got investment because I needed all the equipment.. I went away for four months and I learned how to edit how to capture gaming content and what kind of content people want to see on YouTube.” Don't spread yourself too thinly across lots of different things I can't do that because I'm so complex So I'm so happy that with social media we get the opportunity to demonstrate all aspects of our personality.” This content can also be viewed on the site it originates from I thought I would get taken more seriously if I wore baggy clothes because they're not going to then try and comment “I've fallen into doing football presenting so I’ve experienced / still experience my fair share of sexism I do want to keep my feminism and be feminine but people overlook the fact that you are good at what you do and you worked really hard to get there I hope that eventually we'll get to a point where people don't make those assumptions and being female is more celebrated.” This content can also be viewed on the site it originates from. “As women we have to find real balance in the workplace. The thought process before even opening your mouth to say something is crazy. We have to process so many things, so we don’t appear too defensive, or too confrontational, too feisty, or bossy. It's so hard. I try to remind myself that I wouldn't have gotten to this point, if there wasn't something about me that people like and can relate to.” “Social media gives you a platform to show your personality and showcase your talents. Anyone who's looking to get into that, pick up the camera and start talking to it. That's what I did. You have all the resources you need. You don't need a big flashy camera, or a degree in media and radio. My best advice for young girls wanting to do what I do is to be yourself...Don't be influenced by what is going on around you, no one has it figured out.” On the best and worst pieces of advice...“The best advice I’ve been given is to not say no just because something makes you nervous Do things that push you out of your comfort zone and make you nervous because ultimately it will make you a more confident person The worst piece of advice I've ever been given is to not gamble with the unknown and to stay in my lane I had so many people telling me how terrible of an idea it was You don't have to get great grades to succeed in life because there are people that do other things and are really successful and they don't have to be academic.” Drama about a trans activist’s return to the small New Zealand town he fled as a teenager is straightforwardly told This heartfelt, straightforwardish drama from New Zealand ends with a belting cover of Bronski Beat’s LGBTQ+ anthem Smalltown Boy: a song about a young man leaving home to find love and acceptance in the city Rūrangi picks up a similar story a decade later when a trans man goes back to the dairy farm where he grew up It’s a film that thrums with warmth and gives the rest a lesson in how to get trans representation right: all the trans roles are played by trans actors (and for good measure some non-trans – or non-specific – roles too) Elz Carrad gives a likably vulnerable performance as Caz where he has made a new family in the LGBTQ+ community found work as a trans activist and acquired a gorgeous boyfriend When Caz arrives back in his home town Rūrangi He feels as if he has to explain himself all the time His dad Gerald (Kirk Torrance) doesn’t recognise him He also can’t forgive Caz for not coming back for his mum’s funeral (She died of a rare cancer linked to chemical fertilisers.) Since then old-school Gerald has become an environmental activist right there you know he is capable of a change of heart One of my issues with the film is that in its hurry for happy endings all round the relationships feel a bit underdeveloped the thing that sent him home; like the film itself the backstory runs along conventional lines Rūrangi gets by on its sheer warmth and a lovely streak of optimism about human nature Rūrangi is released on 25 February in cinemas Your request has been blocked by our security system due to potential security concerns Please contact us for assistance 2017 at 1:44 pm ET.css-79elbk{position:relative;}BRICK NJ — A celebration of life has been scheduled for Friday for Peter Michael Elz a Brick Township resident who was deeply involved in soccer and a longtime magician Elz was employed as a mason and was the owner and operator of Deluxe Masons of Brick but he also was an active member of and contributor to multiple clubs and organizations He was a magician and began performing while he lived in Germany bringing his sleight of hand prowess to the United States when he moved here in October 1964 In the mid-1970s The Zaubermeister of Illusions (German for magic master) became a reality Elz and his family performed in local schools at the Laurelton and Lavallette fire houses and at the PNC Bank Arts Center (then the Garden State Arts Center) for the German Heritage Festival Elz was a member of the Society of American Magicians and the International Brotherhood of Magicians where he received the Order of Merlin Shield award in 2008 for 35 years of continuous membership in the International Brotherhood of Magicians "Peter would never share the secret unless you guessed and then, just maybe he would confirm, but don’t bet on it — the magician’s oath," his family said in his obituary on the Herbertsville Colonial Funeral Home website Elz's other passion was soccer — "Fussball!" The Youtuber speaks to NME from the 'Call Of Duty: Warzone' travel agent Elz The Witch has spent the day playing Call Of Duty: Warzone in retro travel agent shop Pacific Adventures, alongside England/Chelsea footballer Mason Mount and Youtuber Chunkz Despite Vanguard being released a few weeks back, Raven Software has just released the new Caldera Map for Warzone and the reviews are good “The old map was proper industrial but this one is set in the Pacific She’s pretty sure her parents won’t be joining her for a game over Christmas but she is planning on taking her PS5 with her when she goes to visit her sister just incase things get too intense over the Xmas period and they want to blow off some steam or escape somewhere sunny for a few hours “The only time I am able to sit and relax is when I’m playing a video game There’s something really therapeutic about that for me just being able to completely forget about the outside world and lose myself in a game.” Elz only started playing Call Of Duty properly a few years ago “so I’m relatively new the maps are always incredible and they just keep on improving.” In 2020, she uploaded the video ‘Playing COD Warzone…Badly’ to her fledgling YouTube channel her channel has blown up but she hasn’t gotten any better at Warzone “My dream is to actually be good at it but no matter how hard I try but there are games that I’m just not very good at such as Warzone.” She figures as long as she’s having fun though having worked on Match Of The Day in addition to recently joining Manchester City as one of their matchday live presenters “I want to prove that you can be into gaming I just want to beat down the misconceptions and preconceptions that people have.” she wants to create a series of documentaries that “prove to my parents’ generation that gaming is a positive thing I think they still view it as something that’s addictive that’s damaging to mental health and inspires violence gaming opens a whole new world for people to escape their reality There are so many opportunities that can come from gaming as well Traditional media always has a negative view of gaming but I’d like to do something to educate people on the benefits of gaming Elz The Witch at the Call Of Duty: Warzone Caldera launch she’s spent her career changing the narrative around herself she was the best in her IT class at a school-approved racing game much to the annoyance of her fellow classmates It was the first of many experiences Elz has faced where she’s been looked down on or dismissed entirely because of her gender It got to the point where she didn’t tell people that she played video games And she’s not the only one. A recent survey found that a majority of women conceal their identity when playing games online with over half suffering verbal abuse and 40% having experienced unwanted sexual or romantic advances she started work at tech giant IBM but after a few years she quit knowing she didn’t want to spend her life behind a desk I wasn’t given as many opportunities because they underestimated me I just got frustrated that I wasn’t being pushed far enough and I felt like I had more to give so I quit,” much to the dismay of her parents Today, with her 200k+ followers on Youtube and Instagram as well as her various dream-come-true jobs that decision to quit her 9-5 seems like a no-brainer sitting in her flat with no furniture beyond a bed and a television “Social media never shows the downsides of those decisions I’d never tell anyone to just quit their job even though I’d been saving up for years,” says Elz After realising there weren’t many female gamers who covered a broad range of titles Elz pulled together a business proposal to raise the funds to buy the parts to build her own computer Then spent the next four months learning every skill she’d need to become a Youtuber “I don’t want to put anything out into the world if it’s not up to scratch,” she explains Things started slowly at first “but the people who were watching my videos seemed to really like them.” It was a world away from the platform she had on Instagram where she’d share music recommendations under the name Witch’s Picks “People used to just judge me on what I looked like and that meant the world to me.” Since then Elz has felt comfortable showing more and more of herself across her channels and says she’s “so much more confident now.” “I have imposter syndrome where I ask myself why am I being hired for this job But I’ve become confident in the fact that I put the work in Still, that first video ‘Welcome To My Gaming Channel’ sees a 28-year-old Elz running through a list of her gaming credentials expecting people to question her authenticity in the comments below “I felt like I had something to prove,” she says people were really supportive,” as were her fellow content creators She’ll still get the occasional gatekeeper asking her the release date of some niche game (“but I know you can be into games and not have to know everything about every single game in the world”) and she knows a few people think her success is down to her looks Those negative comments come from people who are bored and unhappy in their own lives the more vulnerable you are to hearing the opinions of others.” “working in industries that are so predominately male Naturally I felt like maybe I should be more of a tomboy but now it’s so important for me to be able to wear a tracksuit or heels and a tight dress I want to just stay who I am and not compromise that for an audience.” Everything she’s achieved since is because of her channel most conversations about content creators include numbers “I want people to feel like we could be friends Elz believes the reason she connects with her audience is because “I don’t take myself too seriously especially with a camera in your face all the time I’m actually terrible at whatever game I’m playing but I can laugh at myself.” Looking around at the pretend travel agents offering getaways to Warzone’s Pacific map she sees it as a chance to change people’s opinions about her but also women in games generally Even on shoots where she knows she’s there to tick a box she’ll bring talented female friends along “because we all have a message and it’s so important that we get given those opportunities to share those.” Elz is so open about the struggles that come with being a woman in the male-dominated industries of IT gaming and professional sport “because it’s a real thing I just want other women to know that you don’t have to feel weak because you’re outnumbered I want to try to make other people feel confident I hope people see what I’ve done and feel motivated by it.” She doesn’t like the term influencer and pushes back against the idea of being a role model you can’t ever mess up and everybody’s going to make mistakes I want to be someone that people can look up to and relate with there weren’t Youtubers and there certainly weren’t female gamers with a platform.” Despite her various presenting jobs across TV and Radio Elz is never going to stop doing things online believing that the next few years are going to be really interesting with a whole generation of kids wanting to become gamers all you did was go to uni and get an office job.” But thinking like that keeps you on your toes I reckon some people feel like once they’ve reached a certain point they can start relaxing,“ but Elz wants to keep moving forward “I’ve always been one of the only females in whatever environment or industry I’ve found myself in But I’ve never felt weak because of it,” she says “It’s actually made me stronger If you’re going to judge me or not give me equal opportunities I will work 10 times as hard just to prove you wrong Call of Duty: Warzone’s pacific update is out now, you can follow Elz on Twitter The world’s defining voice in music and pop culture: breaking what’s new and what’s next since 1952 We meet four gender diverse couples at locations in Tāmaki Makaurau that are special to them and hear their swoon-worthy stories of how they met and fell in love For every story about a trans person’s encounter with a transphobic dude on Tinder there are also stories about trans people in loving The couples we meet tell us about taking time to mature or sort out mental health issues before being in the right place to date each other They tell us about being entangled with other people at the start of their burgeoning relationships They tell us about how meeting the other person helped them discover their capacity to love They are stories that anyone who has been in love can identify with and they are stories that are possible for us all Ary Jansen (he/him) and Jess Morgan (she/her) met at art school and began dating a year later Ary is a trans support worker at Rainbow Youth and Jess is a web developer at Auckland Museum where she helps create digital interactive installations They’ve now been together for four years and spend their down time together making music and playing on the PlayStation in the beautiful Mt Roskill villa they’re flatting in Ary: It was the first day of sculpture studio I'm Sophie's sister.” And I didn't hear Sophie so I spent about three weeks trying to figure out whose sister you were I just pretended to know what you were talking about And then I had to do some cyber stalking to figure it out I had met Jess's sister that summer because we were both involved in People Against Prisons Aotearoa What were your first impressions of each other And because my sister knew you and had mentioned you're coming to AUT There's this person that's coming that has probably a lot in common with me And I'm excited to make friends with this new person My first impression of you was you were a bit awkward you just gave me this huge smile and a big hug Ary: We were both into each other from the start My mental health was quite messy at the time so I wasn't ready to have a relationship We would just talk to each other in the studio I would come in and lie down where you had your studio set up just to talk to you Jess: I guess we were spending at least four days a week with each other because we were in the same space in art school We got to know each other quite well over that time And then how did you eventually get together Ary: And I professed my love for Jess.  Ary: It wasn't like a serious relationship you mentioned you originally weren’t ready to be in a relationship Ary: I was nervous about just being a good partner I'd had relationships in the past that have been complicated And I think that's why it was really important for me to take that year to work on myself and figure out how to be a good partner And I think that's something we also figure out on the daily together Jess: I think one of the reasons it's worked out so well with us is because we really figured out how to communicate our anxieties early on and talk about our mental health and how we're feeling about the relationship Even communicating about how to communicate like how do I express my needs in a way that isn't gonna hurt you is a big one in your job as a trans support worker at Rainbow Youth what conversations have you had about love and dating Ary: I think some people are worried about narrowing their dating pool if my child is trans does that mean I can't have grandchildren I talked to a lot of young people and their parents who were really scared of them being trans meaning that they'll be in unhealthy relationships or they'll find it hard to get into relationships So I think it's definitely important to have healthy relationships represented What do you tell people when they come to you with those anxieties you don't know who you're going to end up with and you don't know who's going to be interested in you they're not going to care about what your body looks like And I think another really important thing for trans people is to actually try and surround yourself with supportive people people who aren't going to worry about something that's actually really simple What advice do you have for people who haven’t found that circle of people yet And we also have a lot of social groups where they can be with people who are a similar age going through a similar thing Anyone my age who's in a comfortable relationship now was there once in that space where they were worried about dating or worried about forming community or didn't know that they were trans and that they needed that Is there anything else you’d want to tell a young trans person It's hard to think of yourself as lovable sometimes Especially if you're going through some hard times with your mental health or with your family or with your friends or with your school and the right people will come to you and love you the way you deserve to be loved Elz Carrad (he/him) and Dana Andrews (she/her) have been together for seven years and live together in West Auckland with their three kids Dana is a skin therapist and Elz is an actor, most recently playing the lead in Rūrangi a drama series that follows Elz’s character Caz as he returns to the dairy farming town where he grew up to reconnect with his estranged dad which has also been cut into a feature film We met at Craigavon Park where they had their first date and there was a part of the song where the lyric was “that girl” we have to point to all the girls as we sing this line And I just thought Dana was really beautiful that girl” and then not long after she stalked me on Instagram Dana: I didn't have Instagram and he didn't have Facebook I didn't know he was getting notifications every time Then somebody told me and so I went through and unliked everything And then your first date was here at Craigavon Park What were your first impressions of each other from that date Elz: I thought she was beautiful and really quiet I like that she was mysterious and quiet and just chill I was nervous because I knew he was younger than me and also it wasn't supposed to be anything serious Elz, you wrote an article in Express magazine about being a trans dad and how you can relate to your son going through puberty since you went through male puberty yourself three years ago and then I also don't know what it's like to be born male and go through all those emotional I feel like he can be a good teacher for me Dana: He has a really good bond with our oldest Dana: And he's also the referee when me and her are arguing What was the moment like for you when you told Dana you’re trans But I can kind of gauge if someone's going to be accepting or not Something that could be helpful for young trans people is And instinct will let you know if they're gonna be cool or not [To Dana] So I knew that you're accepting and knew you have family members that are part of the rainbow community Dana: That's the thing that stood out for me is he said You should never apologise for who you are Elz: I think maybe I apologised more for not being totally honest in the beginning Dana: I don't think it's fair that trans people have to go around and say I'm Elz and I'm trans,” because nobody else goes around and says I’m Dana and I'm cisgender.” You shouldn't have to put a label on it or explain it Elz: I think my favourite was when I took you up north There's a swimming hole up there called White Rock and it was the first time I'd taken you away Dana: That whole trip is my favourite time Grey Alejandro Jaghoy (he/they) and Jayne Watkinson (they/them) started going out ten days after meeting each other Grey is non-binary and Jayne is trans-feminine non-binary which they describe as And then I realised that I still liked parts of being a guy their go-to cafe spot for when they’re bored and want to get out of the house Grey: I’m studying social work at the moment People have told me that I'm the epitome of Pisces [laughs] I've been involved with Rainbow Youth since I was 14 years old as part of a school project because I did alternative schooling because I was too sick to go to normal school but I am trying to find work that is something that can accommodate the fact that I have chronic pain and that pain makes me pass out because of a genetic condition I have So my free time is spent finding jobs where I won't headbutt people by accident while passing out What’s it like dating someone who also lives with a health condition Jayne: We're very good at supporting each other because we both have to live slower than most people do That’s probably what a lot of couples spend their time doing: lying on a couch together and complaining It isn't somebody that you could go on amazing dates with or who’s compatible with the highest moments in life like holidays It's somebody that you could vent about life on the couch with Jayne: I met them one day at Rainbow Youth.  Grey: So that day I was interning and I was the person who trained all the interns I'm here to learn how to intern and I was like And they were the most gorgeous person I've ever seen in my entire life I didn't actually know that I could become friends with Jayne because they have a funny speech impediment I couldn't really understand what they were saying to me because they move their mouth differently and I predominantly lip read I just developed learning Jayne's speech and movements to the point that I actually understand them better than anyone else and I just look to Jayne and Jayne will repeat it to me Jayne: Grey used to do a lot with music before they got more significant hearing loss I like music quite a lot - I have quite strange but he was explaining to me how he has 95 percent hearing loss so often can’t hear the lyrics at all So I put my headphones on Grey so he could hear the music and because I remember that song so well if I could hear a tiny bit of music I could know what part of the song it was So I sang them to Grey on the bus one time so he could read my lips So we spent one bus trip home with me showing him my favourite songs and singing them to him that he could hear them properly and learn the words because they haven't really been interested in anyone before I feel he just kind of mumbled his words a little bit Jayne: Then he hid his face behind his hands and after about ten seconds asked if he could hold my hand Grey: Back before I knew that I was in love with Jayne I thought I was asexual and aromantic because I just didn't really like people in that kind of way But I knew I liked Jayne in a different kind of way My parents and sister were teasing me saying that that's what a crush is this entire time this is what it must be like to like somebody that's when you would have burst out singing Possum Plows (they/them, non-binary) and Rosemary Mitford-Taylor (they/them, agender) met through their mutual best friend Maude Morris, who also happens to be a creative collaborator with them both. Possum is a musician and recently performed at Big Gay Out with Maude. Rosemary is a volunteer with Rainbow Youth and the Green Party, and collaborates with Maude in their arts and crafts project Radish Dad. We meet at a kind-of-secret beach at Maungauika North Head Devonport - a place where they began to realise they had something special I'm going to Wellington for Rosemary's birthday I'll come and we can just have a little trip to Wellington Rosemary: It's not something either of us will ever do now It was a summer where I just had a big breakup I hadn't really discovered that part of myself And I just felt really enchanted by Possum and felt that electricity And then basically had a big crush on them for a year it took a year after that before we actually got together Possum: We'd see each other every couple months we’d have a romantic weekend and then go back to our lives Rosemary: I think both of us were at a point in our lives where we were just on the tip of having a big transformation There was an unspoken sense we both needed to take time to discover that Meeting Possum made me realise my queerness It was putting a name to something that's always been in me We both kind of dated other people in that time as well but we just kept coming back to each other.  Possum: And it meant that when we did decide to be a couple it was a very conscious decision of knowing this person really intimately and realising that being with them would be the thing that would make them happy it became very serious very quickly because we already knew we wanted to do it you said meeting Possum made you realise your queerness What was your dating life like before meeting Possum Rosemary: I never really got crushes on people I thought that it would be cool to have a boyfriend because that's what you do And then I would just try as hard as I could to find romantic things in the relationship And then they would break up with me because I would be too intense or whatever But it was just because it wasn't right for me I was just trying to find reasons to be into it instead of actually being into it And that's what was really special with Possum is that the attraction and the connection was there without me thinking about it And that's how I knew how real it was and what I recognise now is our soulmate connection what was your dating life like before meeting Rosemary Possum: I was out as bisexual since I was 11 or 12 I didn't have that same complicated relationship to queerness that I know a lot of other people do I was just enjoying being in relationships but I figured that I would never be someone who would fall in love in a way where I would do it with my whole heart So I had sort of accepted that as part of who I was before I was with Rosemary There's so many components to our romance and relationship that fit into that category of what you hear about in love songs or cheesy movies where it just changes your life There are so many coincidences that feel like fate… We're just so good together that it really shifted my whole idea about relationships And now I'm very much a believer in true love [laughs] But I'm so happy that I am not that cynical.. Here are some events you can check out over the next few weeks: you can catch Rosemary's Radish Dad stall at the Out in the City market at Michael Fowler Centre for Wellington Pride Casting trans actors to play trans characters can change lives Miss Arielle: New Zealand’s first trans beauty queen ‘What we are is enough’: the fight to ban conversion therapy in NZ If there’s been a single synth that’s shaken the world this decade it’s been Teenage Engineering’s OP-1: a revolutionary creation from the Swedish firm that single-handedly sparked the mini-synth trend and wormed its way into the workflow of everyone from Thom Yorke to Metro Boomin Due to an array of production issues in recent years it’s now surprisingly difficult to land your hands on an OP-1 these days – which makes now the perfect time for Sonicware to step up to the plate with their ELZ-1 Portable Synth because the ELZ-1 is actually the first product from the Japanese company Billed by the manufacturers as a “reinvention” of the synthesiser the ELZ-1 packs a whole lot into one sleek little chassis a 64-step sequencer and squillions of filters and effects offers USB/MIDI functionality and can be powered by four AA batteries making the ELZ-1 the ultimate portable sound machine for any self-righteous tech-head it’s plain to tell that Sonicware mean serious business with their debut offering the ELZ-1 is constructed almost entirely from solid metal and even the little rotary encoders and 37 mini keys feel far from flimsy The OLED screen is certainly worth a mention here; it really makes menu-diving and parameter tweaking a joy By combining cartoony graphics with pragmatic depictions of waveform manipulations and ADSRs the ELZ-1 provides an incredibly intuitive knob-twiddling experience to users of any level of pedigree playing with the ELZ-1 will certainly school you on the fundamentals of synthesis and if you put your head down and get stuck into all the different elements it offers Although the text displayed on the screen can be rather small at times even when viewed from an angle or inside a dark gloomy home studio – the primary habitat for most synth aficionados With so many different synth engines packed into the one tiny little box it’s a little tough figuring out where to even begin with the ELZ-1 I’d recommend perusing the instruction manual Custom and Low Bit Oscillator engines and start fiddling with the sine These engines work great for when you’re seeking a solution for classic chords and serve as the best entry into navigating the interface of the ELZ-1 While lacking the traditional warmth of a true analogue sounds they’re emulating and I really dug the grit that the Low Bit Oscillator engine offered particularly when you opened the filter up; a saw wave with a little slice of glide will take you straight to snarl central station which is great for some stank-face inducing fun The ELZ-1 also boasts four operator FM synthesis which I’m sure will tantalize a lot of users due to its potential for replicating those glassy yet I found the FM engine of the ELZ-1 to be quite enjoyable and rather immersive; due in part to the level of engagement provided by the colourful OLED screen electric pianos and flutes are all easily achievable and sound faithful ambient tones when you engage them alongside the unit’s powerful arpeggiator You can shape these sounds even further with the 8-bit Wave Memory Synth which allows for waveform warping and morphing in the FM mode The SiGRINDER granular synth engine and the two noise synths here also provides similar results and if you’re seeking chirpy birdsound and crunchy 8-bit video game effects to complement a track If you’re feeling particularly adventurous the ELZ-1 also contains a DNA explorer mode that lets you generate waveforms from incoming audio and deep-diving into this mode gives you some absolutely wild results: just be ready to waste hours of your time as it sucks you in further and further with each little discovery the ELZ-1 also boasts a whole heap of effects you can apply to your sound allowing you to apply a huge range of modulation drive and time-based effects to your current patch This is a super thoughtful touch from Sonicware particularly when you’re first learning the ins-and-outs of the synth and want to apply some overdrive echo or LFO-like wobble without altering your workflow It’s also worth noting that the Sequencer function on the ELZ-1 is phenomenal you’ll find yourself stacking layers like crazy creating wonderful polyphonic bleep-bloop patterns that you’ll never want to pry yourself away from As niche and toy as it may appear on a surface level the Sonicware ELZ-1 is a super-serious piece of kit for the studio or the stage it also works wonders for classic mono and poly synth sounds and once you’ve dedicated a few hours into wrapping your head around its fundamentals it’ll start rewarding you like no other synth before it has Teenage Engineering may have finally found itself a worthy rival in Sonicware The ePremier League returns with a difference on Tuesday 7 February as the players who will represent all 20 Premier League clubs this season take part in the inaugural ePremier League Invitational Before the serious action begins at the 2022/23 ePL Grand Finals on 25-26 March the finalists will join celebrity captains Chunkz and Elz the Witch to face off in a series of entertaining EA SPORTS FIFA 23-based challenges Among the 10 tests awaiting the players are a Crossbar Challenge where players must select a goalkeeper to play up front and a forward to play in goal The team earning the most points over the course of the competition will emerge victorious Team captain Chunkz said: "I have followed the journey of the ePL for the last five years so it’s mega to be involved in this new tournament "The skill that these guys have on the controller is insane but they’ll be put to the test in different challenges that they won’t be used to I’m backing my team though and know that they will bring home the ‘W’!” The ePL Invitational is being broadcast on the Premier League YouTube channel and streamed on the EA SPORTS FIFA Twitch channel from 16:00 GMT on Tuesday 7 February Coverage will be fronted by presenter Rachel Stringer with esports experts Brandon Smith and Richard Buckley commentating on the action who will be representing Spurs at the ePL Finals said: "The ePL is one of the most established competitive FIFA tournaments in the world giving players the chance to represent the club they love – so it’s brilliant that we have the chance to do so again in the ePL Invitational our minds are focused solely on performance but this event gives us the chance to showcase our skills in a fun way that I’m sure EA SPORTS FIFA 23 fans across the globe can relate to I’ll still be giving my all to win – and I hope to make Spurs fans proud!" about 80 percent of its operations are vertical Elz also points out that many open-field growers are switching to greenhouse operations because certain large purchasers demand produce grown with controlled-environment agriculture (CEA) The greenhouse operations can produce items of standardized color and texture that are not possible under open-field conditions “We’re able to meet specific market requirements,” Elz continues Elz adds that the principal crops currently grown in CEA include vine crops such as cucumbers contributing editor for Blue Book Services has more than 40 years of experience in magazine writing and editing and is the former managing editor of California Farmer magazine A graduate of Harvard and Oxford universities Get access to all the news and analysis you need to make the right decision --- delivered to your inbox While F1 drivers fought for grip on the wet track produce markets navigate their own high-speed turns is recalling 4 Count Vine Ripe Tomatoes packaged in clam shell containers IFPA held its annual retail conference and its Foundation for Fresh Produce held its annual Consumer Connection Conference Some say fresh produce interests should support SNAP restrictions with the hope that they would lead to more fruit and vegetable purchases Lipman Family Farms announces the acquisition of Shelton & Sons a trusted tomato grower based in Morristown People need better motivation to eat and serve more fruits and vegetables '#' : location.hash;window._cf_chl_opt.cOgUQuery = location.search === '' && location.href.slice(0 location.href.length - window._cf_chl_opt.cOgUHash.length).indexOf('?') !== -1 '?' : location.search;if (window.history && window.history.replaceState) {var ogU = location.pathname + window._cf_chl_opt.cOgUQuery + window._cf_chl_opt.cOgUHash;history.replaceState(null "\/citytv\/mens\/elz-at-the-etihad-competition-video-63837132?__cf_chl_rt_tk=RZTdYgJ98lybLORwdLKoUhz_n0Tdsock1_oz94yaHps-1746505990-1.0.1.1-reGE7ExNwxW79gwPKGZqe.9uJjwdixj3kZCIXINXMNA" + window._cf_chl_opt.cOgUHash);cpo.onload = function() {history.replaceState(null ogU);}}document.getElementsByTagName('head')[0].appendChild(cpo);}()); The army made its own map and plans to livestream a competition between Yung Filly and Elz the Witch on it next week America's Army was at one time the world's most (in)famous videogame military recruitment tool but now that it's out of the picture the British are taking their shot The British Army has revealed a new "Fortnite experience" called Operation: Belong and it plans to livestream an influencer-led competition on it next week Yung Filly and Elz the Witch are set to compete head-to-head on the map next week but it has yet to be approved by Epic Games and isn't available to the public It's possible that Epic could turn the British Army away Its rules for commercial and sponsored content say that it "must not promote enrolment in the military," and Operation: Belong is pretty overtly a recruitment effort "You belong here," the video says as rousing music plays in the background Epic isn't commenting on the status of the map except to say that it's going through the moderation process now Since the Island is in moderation right now the situation may evolve and we're in touch with the creators." The popularity of “Bad Habit” is carrying over to Lacy’s other songs. “Dark Red” is currently in the Top 20 of Spotify’s USA chart of the most-played songs. “Dark Red” also landed on Billboard’s Hot 100 for the first time two weeks ago and peaked at No. 79 this week. The song right below it? Lacy’s “Static,” another song from Gemini Rights. If either of those songs become a Top 40 hit, Steve Lacy may well become a household name before the year is over. Although bosses made the decision a few years back to stop showing footage of the Islanders smoking or vaping Olivia and Maxwell revealed to us which Islanders used to nip out for a vape and then there was others who used to sneak a little vape when they weren't supposed to "They used to argue on who could vape first and I think Will would always get there first and he would be out there for a long time." Olivia added: "On the challenges I would take theirs you can't ask for it when you get out there So I'd be sneakily trying to have a bit of Samie's on the challenge He made sure that he could look the very best that he could OIivia added: "I don't think Tom is vain Maxwell added: "He'll definitely make you the punchline of his jokes and he will rip into you a lot." so I don't want to throw my girl in too much contestants are allowed one small glass of wine or beer a night with dinner.Being drunk's an absolute no-no so sex while intoxicated is obviously against the rules too though obviously allowed to get jiggy with their partner Contestants cannot be naked in front of other islanders since the villa is technically a public space The islanders are given snazzy phones from their sponsor Samsung (what else would they get their texts on?); but anyone sneaking their own mobile phone into the villa would risk being removed racist or aggressive language and is quite the broad rule Inappropriate behaviour is again at producers' discretion and would include violence and sexual harassment Any Islanders who are rude to crew could run the risk of being booted off the show and contestants must NOT take their mic packs off unless instructed to Contestants must obey the rule book they're provided with; which includes information on safe sex consent and how to know if you're following the guidelines Although Olivia and Maxwell didn't make the final it sounds like the pair are getting on very nicely since returning to the UK Following their dumping, Olivia told Love Island bosses she was excited to get to know Maxwell further saying: "I am so glad I explored connections and I was there when Maxwell came in because he was definitely worth the wait I think we might go for dinner or maybe do a fun activity because we are both very spontaneous "I’m so excited to meet his friends and family and he’s excited to meet mine too I’ve never felt this way about a guy before."
