Emsland Gemüse GmbH based in Emsbüren has been successfully using modern production ways for modern
high-quality greenhouse products for many years
The high-tech producer and 100% subsidiary of Emsflower GmbH currently produces three different varieties of tomatoes under glass growing
7 hectare startThe original Emsflower horticulture business was founded in 2011 as an independent greenhouse vegetable farm with a capacity of about 7 hectares at that time
the total production capacity is about 15 hectares
There are still 3 hectares available for future expansion
The company is constantly in the process of modernizing and possibly expanding the existing cultivation method and variety selection
The latest milestone in this steady development of the company is lettuce cultivation using two different hydroponic processes

salads have also been produced at the main site in a high-tech hydroponic plant
The salad cultivars are cultivated in two different processes
the plants undergo the cultivation process within 30 days - from the young plant to the harvest
the intervals between the individual salads gradually grow during growth
This process is already mostly computerized
we also use pure hydroponic technology," says Schütze

Alarming reports about the greenhouse vegetable market
were rife during the height of the corona crisis
The direct effects of the crisis were noticeable at Emsland Gemüse too
they anticipated the 'new normal' in time and so
2020 could well go down in history as an excellent tomato year
That's according to Emsland Gemüse's manager
A peek into the greenhouse near to Emsbüren in Germany
there was a lot of uncertainty in the greenhouse horticulture sector
That was just after the coronavirus pandemic broke out
we had too few Eastern European seasonal workers
We had recently received our residential units
These are entirely corona-proof and can house two people per unit."
we could transfer some of our staff members from there to our horticultural branch
we were able to maintain sales reasonably well
And we made it through the corona crisis period," says Erwin
Prices for all the tomato varieties are on the rise again
There are hopes that this level can be maintained in the season's second half
That's why it could become an outstanding tomato year for us."
There are three tomato varieties in Emsland Gemüse's greenhouse complex
"We started producing this last one last year
we can say this variety has about four benefits," explains Erwin
the Sweeterno guarantees more volume per plant
The company's total tomato acreage grew to 18 ha last year
They are now seeing if the current two packing lines are sufficient
These must pack the full production on site.
Savenije also saw a high production in the other two varieties in the year's first half
"We simply harvested large volumes per plant
the Brioso's been selling well the whole year already
sales have now returned to a high level again
seem to be a higher demand for small packaging
That's a direct result of the corona crisis
But we can only establish this once the crisis is over
and we've done a thorough evaluation," concludes Erwin
New units for seasonal workers were supplied before the coronavirus broke out - a blessing in disguise

German gas grid operator Open Grid Europe (OGE) and Nowega have launched the first conversion of natural gas pipeline to transport hydrogen
The distance gas network operators celebrated a significant milestone on Monday with the launch of Germany's first-ever conversion of a natural gas pipeline to transport hydrogen
a groundbreaking move toward advancing the country's hydrogen economy
Under the motto of "Pipe free for H2," the transformation commenced at OGE's Emsbüren compressor station
marking a pivotal step in Germany's commitment to the hydrogen era
"This conversion of a natural gas transmission pipeline to hydrogen for the first time in Germany is a crucial piece of the puzzle for the energy transition and the German hydrogen network
OGE is proud to take this step together with Nowega as the first transmission system operators," stated Dr
underscoring the importance of this historic project
also emphasized the benefits of retrofitting existing pipelines to accommodate hydrogen
emphasizing the speed and cost-effectiveness of the project
"These projects show that cooperation among transmission system operators works and that together we can build a high-performance hydrogen network," said Heunemann
initiating natural gas extraction by OGE's mobile compressor
This process involves redirecting gas from the Emsbüren-Bad Bentheim and Bad Bentheim-Legden pipeline sections into another pipeline
The 46-kilometer-long pipeline sections will be detached from the natural gas network
paving the way for hydrogen transport upgrading
This conversion will facilitate future connections to the hydrogen supply for numerous industrial and SME customers
The pipeline sections are integral to the GET H2 Nucleus project
designated for funding as an Important Project of Common European Interest (IPCEI)
with the two transmission system operators being active participants in the GET H2 initiative— a nationwide endeavor to establish the core of a comprehensive hydrogen infrastructure
Ownership of the Emsbüren-Bad Bentheim section lies with OGE
while the Bad Bentheim-Legden section is jointly owned by OGE and Nowega
the company began constructing a new pipeline in Lingen
intending to bridge gaps in the hydrogen infrastructure
The project marks a significant stride forward in Germany's quest for a hydrogen-powered future
underscoring the country's commitment to renewable energy and sustainability.
